    Please hear me out. I really, really wanted to like this game. I am a huge fan of the original, and when I saw the announcement for Part II, I was beyond excited. Despite exceptional gameplay, sound, visuals, and acting, this game simply doesn’t deliver in terms of story or meaningful character development. I simply don’t understand what went wrong here in the development studio. It’sPlease hear me out. I really, really wanted to like this game. I am a huge fan of the original, and when I saw the announcement for Part II, I was beyond excited. Despite exceptional gameplay, sound, visuals, and acting, this game simply doesn’t deliver in terms of story or meaningful character development. I simply don’t understand what went wrong here in the development studio. It’s bizarre, and as a diehard fan of the first game, this is beyond frustrating and disappointing. Also, this has nothing to do with the game being “SJW” or “agenda-pushing” (I’m a part of the LGBT community myself). I just simply feel like the story, in terms of writing and character development, is laughably bad for a game of this caliber, especially when compared to the brilliant first entry in the series. Please save your money and save yourself from the major disappointment that I experienced while playing this game. While I am rating this game a zero, it’s not because I think this game has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It’s to simply point out the hypocrisy of many influenced game journalists, as well as blind fans, when they rate the game a ten. Thank you for reading.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This fad of media creators' contempt toward audiences and characters only ever results in horrible stories. The Last of Us Part II continues this trend, and the results are as expected.

    Joel is brutally murdered by Abby, a character that had absolutely no bearing on the original game's story.

    You play as Abby for half the game, as the writers try to give this shoehorned 'character' reason to exist in the script.

    The gameplay is boring, and copied in full from the first game with no meaningful change. It's pretentious rule-of-thirds-style camera stands in defiance of the exploration and combat; it takes 'looking nice' to be more important than being functional.

    There is not a single reason that this should've been a game over a movie or series. There is not a single aspect of the story that is enhanced by interactivity.

    The graphics and sound are pretty good, even outstanding i would say. But they destroyed Joel's character to a point that the game is just ...sadly bad. I mean, how in the world Joel could be so stupid? He, who was one of the most cautious characters    It's hard to defend this game.

    Really wanted to enjoy this one since I adored the first one so much. Can't believe this game has fallen into the SJW woke BS along with other games that failed miserably due to the exact same reason. Thankfully, I returned this game just in the nick of time to get my money back. Looks like I'll have to wait till July and Nov for an actually good game. 0/10, not worth it

    The game looks amazing and plays similar to the last one. I loved the last one. But they have done the series wrong by this game. All the SJW stuff is so forced and it seems everything is written to reflex the outlook of sjw trying to do right by the game by sending a "message".     Story aside, to which I personally have no problem with (it is what it is) I found the game itself most enjoyable, the mechanics of the first game have been built upon to produce a tighter and more intuitive system that is an absolute blast to play. There's also a slew of accessibility options that should be commended, the more people able to play the better right?     What a fantastic game.
    Absolute great experience to play after the first part. I've waiteted a long time for this game to play and I definitely wasn't disappointed yet. The look is awesome in comparison to other AAA Games, the performance is great on PS4 and Pro and this isn't a standard anymore. Definitely worth playing

    Personally I love the game and just like the first game, this is a must play. The story is intriguing, the gameplay is spot on, the graphics are stunning and the sound is on point.     It's about a 4/10, nothing more, nothing less. Graphics and animations save this game, hell even the dialogue is horrible. No memorable characters, plot and story is horrible.

    The Last of Us Part II will be a game where we can say the sequel never existed. Last of Us 1 is the true ending of Ellie and Joel's story. Part 2 reminds me of the Batwoman TV Show on the CW.

    I finished this game, started from midnight as soon as it came out. And i didn't stop playing because i was hoping for the game to redeem itself for making the godawful decisions it did.

    This game is not special, the plot is cheap and there is nothing unique about it or the characters involved in it. It had NOTHING to do with ANYTHING. at all. It just left me in the same state i was in for 90% of the game, which was that i just wanted to get to the next section so i could just know what happens next. Surely, the way this game started, there must be a reason. there must be some sort of redemption..

    And i only kept playing because i wanted ellie to do just ONE thing by the end of the game. JUST ONE. and even then it wouldn't be fully redeemed for how they treated beloved characters from the first game.

    And so i get to the end of the game, and i didn't even get what i wanted. (Pretty sure, what everyone wanted). Instead i got a boring, terrible, awful, nonsensical ending. Where everything that was experienced (as horrible as it was) was all for nothing.

    If the game ended with ellie waking up and the whole thing being a dream, it would have been a better game. That's how awful this steaming pile of garbage is. Stay away from this game if you wish to hold good memories of LOU1.

    i actually want a refund. i'm embarrassed for naughty dog. i will NEVER buy anything n.druckman directs ever again. holy crap, what a waste of a weekend.    … Expand

Needless to say TLOU2 has some amazing graphics and great atmosphere designs, and the devs who worked hard for this game should get their well-deserved praise, but this is not what I'm trying to talk about in this review. You see TLOU2 has some really serious issues when it comes to character development and representations in the game. Take Asian characters for example. We got Jesse, who's a mediocre Asian character at best, acted as nothing but a plot device that contributes the development of Ellie and Dina's relationship, and he was literally a sperm donor. You heard that right. He made Dina pregnant so she and Ellie could have a chance to start a new life together as a lesbian couple after his pathetic and anticlimactic death (which is worse than Glenn's death in TWD imo). How is this a good representation of Asian males in video games, seriously? At least most Japanese devs know they need to make their Asian characters kick-ass when there's nothing they can do to make the characters more likable. We also got Yara and Lev's mother, who acted exactly like an extreme traditional and stereotypical Asian parent--she was willing to give her 13-year-old trans daughter Lev to a local elder as a child bride, and abused Lev when he refused to comply, really? If they were all black characters, I would imagine there must be some outrage on social media already. I just don't get why does Neil Druckmann hate Asians so much that he decided to make them all weak and incompetent (even the trans character Lev needs to be protected by Abby, a strong white woman) in TLOU2. What's worse is that these characters can be easily fixed so they can be under a more positive light, it's not like they have super complex characteristics to begin with anyway. In conclusion I'm disappointed. As an Asian I don't really mind when Asian characters can only get the less important roles in any western video games, but please make them good and not just dry and unlikable punchbags like this.… Expand

This story is gloryfication of radical left agenda, that is forcefully shoved down the player's throats, even at a cost of bringing down LOVED and APPRECIATED franchise. So to not mention any spoilers - was it really worthy Naughty Dogs, to cooperate with Anita Sarkeesian on this one? For this woman everything is literally opportunity to be offended, and the recipe for that is to wrap it in the Orwell. And i say that as a leftist. Story is dissapointing, forced, disgruntling and serves purpose of putting token characters. I am no surprised that Sony went to great lengths to ban all leaks of this game - because it it spread wider, noone would buy this game for story, except for Twitter checkmarks who we know they are not buying any games.     An incredible and technically perfect game. The story compared to the previous one moves in another direction that may or may not like it. The power of the title lies in the difficult choices that have been addressed by bringing back some current themes within the video game. Before giving a judgment try to live the title. An almost masterpiece.

    It's bad, even worse than I was anticipating, almost hard to even continue playing. The first one is one of my top 10 games ever but nothing about the spirit of the first game is in this one, it's just depressing in the worst way. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's probably the most unenjoyable gaming experiences I've had

I found myself in a hole by the 20th-hour mark, the game in general had been kicking me in the stomach again and again in the perception of a higher form of art. In the COVID-pandemic era, where people are dealing with real emotionally turmoil and trauma, as the lack of social interaction and feeling of isolation continues, where we might find ourselves locked within our doors and preparing for a second-wave, this game is unnecessarily bleak and makes you feel as though no hope remains in the world.

    The characters, unlikable, the story, illogical, the gameplay, boring. The fact that people are rating it so high is just because it tries something new and edgy and not based on actual merits. Good graphics are a traditional requirement, not something that justifies a 8 automatically. The gameplay has the AI and characters working in illogical ways, I literally had one character entire body jerk in a unnatural fashion because it got stuck on the side of a walkpath completely breaking the immersion. Joel was absolutely the best part of TLOU, with Elle a far second, and honestly this Joel deserves his fate, as his character is not consistent with his first game values. The needless vengeance cycle of a narrative is boring and uninteresting, especially considering one faction is 100 times more interesting than the other, and then try to make you care for both of them.

    I did not finish the game, nor do I care too, I even spoiled the ending for myself because there was no drive any longer, I merely took a long breath, stood up from chair, and turned off my Console. That game will be deleted from my library, because even with context, that ending is far more insulting and showcases that they are too scared to double down on their own bleak world. To try and weasel out a happy ending when you went at lengths to paint a foreboding and unloved world to have it just 180 and scam out of us... no, the game should have ended roughly 90 minutes in, when you had certain characters meet their fate, they all should have had the same fate, because you established this bleak world, and that is what people would do to survive. You are such cowards Naughty Dog, you could not even stick to your own convictions.

    I am going to give this a 3/10 because It has mediocre game-play and exceptional graphics, as that is what the benchmark should be for those two. But the lack of innovation, the narrative inconsistencies, the stupid mistakes characters make that go against everything they stood for as characters, I am going to pour a glass of whiskey for the legacy of the TLOU, because in my mind, them driving off into the sunset was the only ending to this video game series.    … Expand

I will start this off by saying that I am not the sort of person that cares for posting reviews, but when I saw the gamer reviews for this game, I was absolutely stunned - especially after playing through the game. I am very much a fan of naughty dog's content - They raise the bar with every release and do not disappoint (you might accuse me of being biased but still). The first game (which I have completed recently for the 10th time) offered so much and didn't hold back on toying with your emotions, especially with some you didn't even know you had.
    Now, before I start on TLOUpt2, I sort of understand why people are annoyed with the story, but that being said, the story choices by naughty dog are bold and they are unashamedly and apologetically made. Respect for that.

    Not only does the second game build on the gameplay mechanics from the 1st game, they are improved dramatically - and this is from someone who has JUST played the first game. I do not have an inaccurate, hazy, and rose-tinted memory of the first one one to cast inaccurate comparisons. It is clearly built from the original, but ND bring some welcome unseen and polished mechanics, along with some features from uncharted 4 - which work very well with the character.

    One thing I have always enjoyed about naughty dog games is character - environment interaction. Oh boy does ND go above and beyond with that aspect on this game: ND lets you appreciate this beautifully scarred world at a non-overwhelming enjoyable pace if you are that way inclined. every detail here is considered and you will find magical moments where you least expect them. TLOUpt 2 really rewards those who take their time and enjoy their surroundings with intriguing back stories and compelling interaction between characters. Equally, it does not force you into exploration, it merely dangles the carrot of encouragement, but does not shove it down your throat.

    So here we go: Story. While I sat open-mouthed during the 2 hour mark at decisions made for this story, I had mixed feelings - Mostly though, I now realise, these feelings are why I play naughty dog games (granted, naughty dog definitely spun some misleading yarns in their advertising regarding story, but respect for getting into my head and making me think I know what was going to happen).
    The reason "apocalypse" focused games are popular is because they push the boundaries of morals and raw emotion; you get to experience REAL problems. In TLOUpt2, it brings a welcome balance of idyllic, Utopian, uncharted-like life (within the Jackson settlement seen in the first game), to brutal realities with confusing and conflicting moral consequences.

    The last of us part 2 an affirming and brutal game that has arrived at a strange time. The pace of the story and stunning details of this game reflects that of real life, and for those without the patience to find these, I am not sure will find the enjoyment. But for me, I don't see that. It is a stunningly beautiful game with groundbreakingly stunning gameplay and an emotionally wrenching story which has been delivered in true Naughty Dog style. You might not like what they show you, but by jove is this a game to behold -- Good job Naughty dog for putting this game out there.    … Expand

    To open up, the graphic is one of the best out there. But, as someone who placed a story and character in-game above everything, then this game is absolute garbage. Why on earth do you kill off a beloved character and doesn't give any decent justification of it?     People giving zeros haven't played the game, they're just the ones who hate the game - either because of the story or the leaks, or all the above. The game is brilliant, just like the first it has amazing graphics and gameplay, the story is just fine.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
