Amazing graphics, below sub Par story. I believe some critics have said it themselves the story is a fanfiction mess that destroys the legacy the first game left. Naughty Dog created a beautiful product but destroyed fans love for the series while doing so.

I feel I have to lend my voice to the community and strongly urge you to stay away from this game. It is not worth the $60 investment, especially in the current times we find ourselves in.

This is a below-average-quality zombie game masked with AAA graphics, familiar faces of much-beloved characters, and a number of unusually perfect reviews from notable critics. It may be painful to accept for diehard fans who have been waiting years for this title, but I must sadly say that in my experience, I have found that what you've probably heard is true: there is no soul behind the facade.

The gameplay mechanics have been marginally improved from the original game. I emphasize 'marginally'. They are still clumsy and ultimately not as well executed as rival titles. New mechanics such as the "jump" are functionally useless and often add nothing of any true value. It looks but does not feel like a videogame released in 2020. I admit the Last of Us shared the same issues as this sequel, yet it was able to get by with a very well executed and emotional character-driven story.

TLOU was short, sweet, simple, and powerful - towering above other games in the genre. This new entry in the series comes nowhere close and fundamentally fails at continuing the narrative in any meaningful way, ultimately creating a bland, inconsistent, frustrating, unrewarding, and pointlessly tragic story riding largely on shock value. At the end of the game I found that the message it chose to deliver fell totally flat and was not conveyed in any sort of logical way; those who embraced the Kindergarten-level philosophy that the plot tried to impose ended up suffering and losing the most.. What? It doesn't teach a lesson. It revels in throwing expectations to the wind and interjecting torture.

The narrative is also NOT what the promotional media implies. For those of you who simply must see this game for yourself or are considering picking it up for the $10 it's worth in a later PSN sale, I won't spoil it for you. But be aware of this: the promotional media is misleading with unrelated scenes stitched together and characters substituted with others to create the impression that the narrative is something it is not. I have never, ever felt cheated by a tactic like this before – usually I smile and think "wow, they got us!" – but I feel... betrayed.

If you love the unique characters and dynamic relationships of the original Last of Us, you will not enjoy this game. If you love the simple but powerful narrative that drove the original Last of Us, you will not enjoy this game.

This is a disappointing game designed by a company known to abuse their employees. It does not carry the magic of its predecessor. Buyers beware.

In the age of multiplayer games, TLOU2 was supposed to be the ultimate single-player experience that players have been anticipating ever since TLOU first came out, really. And it fails miserably, not only at providing that experience, but even at expanding gameplay, which should have been obvious after so many years of development.

I'll start with gameplay. Well, there's nothing revolutionary to witness. Most story-based games show similar mechanics. In its core, TLOU2 is quite fun - but it's nothing we haven't seen, nothing we haven't played and the challenge is really there. PS4 limitations are visible and where graphics are more than decent it's obvious that the game will come to PS5 in its full glory sometime later. Unfortunately most aspects like movement, physics, shooting are all surpassed even by GTA V, a game almost as old as the original TLOU.

Gameplay is definitely not the weak point of this game. It holds up okay and I doubt anyone expected more. However, here we can see the first sign of why the initial reviews were so undeserved.

    (spoilers ahead!)

Story is its own disaster. As most fans would tell you, the game does almost everything to stray as far away from expectations as possible. Is this deliberate? Maybe, who knows. Is it necessary? Absolutely not. I will not be going into details as I don't want to spoil and you can read it elsewhere, anyway. One thing I will say though: forcing the player to play for hours as the killer of many's favorite character of all time and then failing to give any sort of katharsis to the player, to other characters, only serves to make the experience as unpleasant and ultimately pointless as possible. Where I've been waiting for epic adventures and chalacter development, we've reseived GoT season 8 - like disappointment, deaths and no resolution to whatever the game started or hinted at.

The story really is a car wreck and I feel like I've wasted many hours that I should have put into something else.

Critic reviews are baffling to me. It's unbelievable how a game like that can score 100s so easily. There is absolutely zero material upon which it is based to give the game even a 90, although I can imagine someone's experience may be different to mine. But there's just not enough substance.

And you know what? For what I believe, it's really cool that the game involves LGBT characters. It's only painful that the way they have been introduced is so negative, that they are completely unlikable, but due to how prominent tat was, it will likely only serve to make the LGBT community more alienated than it already is. It's a real shame and the studio should fu*king apologize for that.

As a note: Don't be fooled by the negativity generated by online gossip about inclusionism - the inclusion of transsexual and homosexual characters is sensible in story context and does not overshadow any important aspects of the story.

    As for my review itself:

Gameplay is smooth and visceral, though places more focus on appearing cinematic than feeling responsive in the way other action-oriented games are. The most impressive aspects are the incredibly lifelike and fluid animations, and the enemy AI which is deep and extremely believable. The multitude of difficulty options are a great assistance in tuning the game to a setting you enjoy. I found that I loved stealthier sections, but was put off by straight-up fights that would result in immersion-breaking deaths and trial-and-error gameplay. I was very pleased to find that there are different difficulty settings for stealth, combat, and resource gathering that can all be adjusted individually.

The presentation is phenomenal as usual for a Naughty Dog game. The graphics are just as impressive as they appear in the trailers, and the music (though often subdued, lying in the background) is very appropriate and shines through when it needs to.

Clearly the most contentious and important aspect is the story itself. Director Neil Druckmann stated long before release that while The Last of Us was about love, the sequel would be about hate. This is an extremely accurate summation of the themes and tone of this game: it is incredibly bleak and upsetting. To create a game that intentionally inflicts emotional pain and discomfort on players is a tricky balancing act: push the tragedy and frustration too far and you risk alienating players who just want to have fun or indulge in some escapism. The story of The Last of Us Part II clearly doesn't sit right with many players for this reason, though I think many people are too quick to condemn games that confront them with unfortunate realities or uncomfortable situations. This game deliberately forces its players to engage in actions and gameplay segments that they will want no part of in order to drive home its core message. These parts of the game are meant to make you feel bad. The main characters of this game make a lot of terrible decisions, and this has upset a lot of players who believe they know the characters better than the writers do. It is important to understand that none of us who live modern lives and can afford the time to complain about videogames on the internet have the faintest understanding of what it's like to grow up in the kind of world portrayed in this franchise.

This drama confronts players with some of the darkest, most vile depths of human behavior, and as a result, it is not a fun story to be a part of. If you play this game and feel frustrated that things don't go the way you want them to, then the story is working as intended. It is a portrayal of the futility of revenge, and is clearly meant to leave you feeling empty and exhausted. I have personally never been emotionally affected by a game as much as I have been by this one.

Whereas we've had an excellent first game, showing the growing relationship between Joel and Elie, here we have bland characters we barely care about. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm not entirely sure why this game is getting so much hate by the fan base to the point of "review bombing". It's extreme, to say the least. Disclaimer - I haven't finished the game yet so maybe the ending is what possibly set all this drama off. But I do know that even if the ending is terrible, I'm still having fun playing this game so far and I intend to finish it. It is definitely not worth the lowest rating possible on every reviewing platform; although it is everyone's right to give whatever score they choose even if it is the lowest. I just hope that they are considering every aspect of the game and giving a fair, unbiased (to others review bombing) score.

The original game is currently one of my favorite games of all time. The story focused on two characters who weren't too sure of each other at first, but alongside the player, started "warming up" to each other and developing an unbreakable bond. Thus, the player developing an extreme emotional connection (or at least I did) to the characters that was (SPOILER) later suddenly shattered in the sequel (SPOILER OVER). Then we have the core of the story; a "zombie" apocalypse that is a bit of a twist. Instead of the typical virus outbreak and hordes of relatively normal looking walking dead, the core story revolves around a fungus outbreak that acts extraordinarily different than the former. They aren't the typical walking dead, they're over-grown fungal covered and parasitically controlled monsters. Lastly, we have the gameplay. It's very similar to the Resident Evil series. Except less puzzlely, much more action and sudden events intensive, and more cut scenes between areas due to the heavily story-driven nature of the game. All of which I love and make me prefer the game over the Resident Evil series.

The sequel, as you would expect, overall improves on the basis of the previous game. I've played past the part where (SPOILER) Joel dies (SPOILER OVER) so I know that the original emotional connection with the previous main characters is semi faded away but I still find the story engaging enough. Would I say it's better than the first game? No, obviously not. But it is generally difficult for any game to outshine the original. The first time you play something, you develop a first time experience that acts also as a bias, tilting the scales in its favor compared to the sequel(s). All I'm saying is that the first game's story was amazing and the second game's might not as amazing, but it is still decent at the very least.

The gameplay is more fun than the first game's. The new attack dodging ability is really cool, I just think that it is a little too easy to dodge most enemies attacks. I am playing the game on "SURVIVOR" mode which is the hardest difficulty that can be picked, unless there are harder ones unlocked after beating the game for the first time. Given I was playing on the hardest difficulty, I found that enemy attacks were way too slow to hit me so it became apparent that I could just punch/slash the absolute !%$# out of everything instead of using ammo or stealth. That's a bit of an over exaggeration, there were points were I ran out of ammo and had to resort to stealth, but it made me feel like a badass fighter. I also found that you can take an unhuman amount of bullets before dying. I was being shot like 4 - 5 times before running out of health which became felt way too easy on the hardest difficulty. In real life, you'd be lucky to survive one shot depending on the impact location. I think they should make it 1 shot then 2 shots with health upgrades on the hardest mode. They definitely should do some difficulty retweaking in terms of player damage. Lastly, the stealth is a little too easy. They added a full prone feature so you can lie on your stomach and crawl. It's slow but it basically makes you invisible to enemies even if they are like 5 feet away. Combine that with the craftable silences, which by the way I always had one crafted, and you're easily a "skilled" assassin with next to no effort compared to typical stealth action.

Some say the story is lacking; I agree that the story is definitely not as good compared to the original game's, but overall the game is good. Needs a bit of tweaking in difficulty/balance but it is just about as fun as the first game. I'm probably gonna get a lot of hate for this review for holding an unpopular opinion; so be it. The game is fun for me and no one or group is going to deny that fact. If this game was zero fun, then I'd score it a 0 but that's not what I think and I'm standing by it.

I finished this game. I loved every minute of it.

I see a lot of reviews stating that if you like this game you are a simp, or if you hate this game you are a bigot...both are equally wrong. Entertainment is subjective. And it's wrong to be judged for liking something that suits your taste. I love this game because it's bleak, it's not a fairytale ending for anyone. And it talks about what would happen if we go to that dark place that makes us hurt ppl.

The way I see it, if the first game is about a father who lost his daughter, the second game is about two daughters, both have lost their fathers and they both want justice and both take the darkest route for that. While Abby was forever changed from the violence of the first game, Ellie was trying to run away from the same violence while also fighting that survivors guilt that she didn't have a choice to save the world because of her adoptive father's actions.

It was Abby who struck first, and rightfully so but the way it was done might not sit well with the gamers, I agree. But all of this is not happening in a world where law and order are practiced, that world is over and this is a more realistic portrayal of life during the apocalypse so it makes sense that Abby did what she did, in the way that made sense to her.

Ellie on the other hand was just starting to make amends with Joel and was looking ahead for a new start with her adoptive dad, and it was violently taken away from her. So her anger is justified here as well.

By the end of the second act of the game we see where their actions have led both of our characters towards, Ellie gets disgusted by her own actions after killing an innocent pregnant woman who had nothing to do with Abby except for being present when Joel got killed, while at the same time she got Jesse murdered, Dina and Tommy gravely injured in her pursuit of vengeance. This action opens Ellie's eyes towards the violence she has shelled out, and she stops her quest for vengeance. Meanwhile Abby, who after killing Joel has no more purpose in life goes on her own adventure that mirrors Joel's from the first game, with Lev, and in her adventure she looses everything, because she found the mistakes of her ways, she stopped seeing things as black and white, she ended up helping a couple of Seraphite kids, and saw the humanity in them, while it gave her a new purpose, it came at a cost, she lost everyone she cared about and the love and respect for the people who took her in after she left the fireflies. When she wants to leave the world of violence and finally understands to empathize with her fallen and weakened enemy she gets pulled back in due to the death of her friends. For a bit she goes back to her own violent ways, killing Jesse, Shooting and injuring Tommy, Almost killing Dina, but she was stopped by Lev and she returns back to her new self, and ventured out to Santa Barbara.

But our karma always follows us, Abby and Lev get captured and brutally tortured by slave traders, and imprisoned, much like how the WLF treated the Seraphites in the start of the second act. Over here she pays for her sins.

Ellie on the other hand still feels like she has failed Joel, and has difficulty living the perfect life she is having with Dina and JJ, she has PTSD and wants to feel normal, so she picks up her guns again and rides to finish off Abby for once and for all, and there is a cost here which is she will Lose Dina, JJ and a peaceful family life all over again.

Ellie finds and half-heartedly tries to fight a weakened Abby to bring an end to the chaos she carries in her mind. But doesn't finish her. This last act of violence would have made Ellie completely unredeemable in her mind, she would have lost herself to the darkness and it was tempting to give in to that. But imagine she killed Abby, what then? Will she kill Lev, a kid who was not a part in this as well? This game is about costs that we and our loved ones pay in our needless pursuit of violence to get even. And it features flawed but natural human beings.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, the game is just amazing!! Joel's death was not expected (so soon) but it was the real trigger to all this. Also ok his death was "quick and brutal" but it's understandable. After his death all you can think is that Abby is a ***** and you want to kill her so bad until you see her face of the coin. Well, ok i understand what she did and why she did. Obviously Ellie goes nuts and wants to kill here and it's understandable too.

This game just gives you the message that it's so easy to name Good and Bad without knowing all the story and that's what Humans do, they judge as fast as they drink a glass of water.

The story of this game is good because of that. You can see everything and you can judge after but with all the facts and it's impossible to go through the game and feel the same way as you felt in the beginning.

Also, the fact that the game shows how the conscience works, i mean, when you are with heat mind you are capable of anything until you start to cool down, you start to think about why you doing that and "i will be the same if i do it". Well, the story messes with you and you start think about stuff.

The value of things is well shown here, with Ellie not forgiving him and "stay away from my life" until he dies and she feels guilty because he is not there anymore and she never did forgive him for real.

That's the beauty of the game. The graphics are fine but not something you have never seen before, the music is very good but not amazing and the gameplay is TLoU 1 (mostly) and the game itself is way brutal and darker than the 1st one (understandable). So, for me, what really made me stay for soooo long in front of the TV was the story and, at the same time, thinking of the things i did in my life, the judgements i did at first sight and that probably i should care more about lots of things. When a game does that, well, it must be a hell of a game.

Я бы хотел чтобы все поиграли и прочувствовали эту игру потому что только пройдя ее можно понять для себя и расставить все . 1) we didnt empathize with her couse she killed our favorite character. what were you thinking?
    2) if you wanted to show how the good guy can be the bad one in another story, fine, let us play with her for one episode not the other FU*K half, that was such a TRAS*
    3) The end of the game was trash. i think that all wanted revenge. Ellie lost a lot of people, friends, the person she loves and lost her "dad". just for forgiving the one that caused that. TRASH.
    4) I would have preferred a shorter game but with the in-depth story of Ellie´s, than a long game with a character that I did not like and let them kill me because I did not care

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My suggestion to you is not to spend your money on buying this game at all and do not play this game at all (don't be fooled by the high score of this game)
(If you play this game, you will hate the whole game industry)
The reason is that this game only has very high graphics and good art design, and in terms of a very bad story, you must say that many games have a bad story, but in the case of The Last of Us Part II, the situation is different and there are many mistakes in it. Unlike the first part of this game, this game basically has a story full of problems
    Merits
1- High and stunning graphics and excellent art design
2- Very high gameplay, warms your head for hours
    Disadvantages
1- Story: A very bad story, art must elevate man, art, what film, music, computer games, in addition to being fun, there must be instructive points for human life, hidden in art in The Last of Us Your Part II would have reached emptiness, that is, an empty human being, that is, a purposeless human being, that is, an animal similar to a human being
2- Movie: The mistake that some game directors make in the last few years about the games of this generation is that they want to design the game from the beginning like a movie from the beginning and at the beginning of making the game. Directors who follow this trend, their game is similar to a simple walking game on the street. They do not consider that in making the first game, you have to make a game and after finishing the work, make that game look like a movie. In remembrance, the same mistake was made by the famous director Hedio Kojima, who plunged him into the quagmire of sinking the game industry in the movie, and his last two games again faced high scores from critics and low scores from gamers. Was
3- Sex: I am against entering scenes or sexually explicit words in any branch of art, movies, music and computer games, but in my opinion, in this game, neither the man nor the woman in this game has any value. Destroyed and sexually insulted and humiliated both sexes and questioned human beings as a whole. I consider homosexuality to be a mental illness, not an inalienable right. Countries like the United States and France have recognized homosexuality, so it's safe to say that they have the right to be animalistic to humanity.
4- Bad smell of politics and conspiracy (humanism and humanism): This game is made with a very high budget and there is already a very high sales forecast for this game, but behind these very heavy costs and this kind of bad story and It is highly doubtful that the story and design of the game, and even the strong financial support, will be shared by the kings and the Freemasonry sects in this game.
This game will be a headache for Sony and Nagati Dog by writing a fringe and problematic story, and it will be expensive for them. And even in the future, the game industry will change.
Neil Drakeman: You are not and will not be a good director at all, and you will soon be fired from the entire game industry for your betrayal of art.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Its been moments since I finished this game, so its quite fresh in my mind

This is definitely not a game for children

It wraps up the last of us story quite neatly, this game completes its predecessor, it gives weight to the decisions made in the last game even more, its a tale of consequences, redemption & the path to salvation

This game challenges the player in ways I dont think they've ever been challenged, in most games, you're the protagonist, the lines are clear, theres very often no greys, no conflict of morality, often missions are search & destroy with no after thought for the death of any of the characters

I like how everything is given significance, you wander through an abandoned home and find the letters of the deceased, either missing or turned into a zombie, one scene or moment that really struck me, was when Abby had to retrieve medical supplies from the basement of the hospital in Seattle, prior to entering, she's told that in the early days, that the hospital was ground zero for the outbreak, finding the letters of the people there, the dread of isolation, the longing for loved ones and to be free of quarantine, reminds of this time we're currently in, the covid pandemic of 2020, its a reminder that theres a person behind it all, zombie/scar/WLF

Theres a feeling in the pit of my soul I can't quite name, its the feeling of peace after you've been crying, that silence, when after your sadness or pain is gone, the feeling that your body is just at peace

It was a quite a journey, I feel, for me personally, its taken the edge of my cynicism, if only just a little

The ending was bittersweet, its like a coen brothers ending, I feel most will try and grasp for happiness to find it not there, and in doing so, they'll have miss the point unfortunately

I think, this will be a game I'll revisit, when I need to remember that, we'll be okay, despite the trials & tribulations of our lives

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
