    Great game i avoided spoilers been playing for days. Truly gets me on edge sometimes.

    Captivating world, honestly beautiful. Tho some parts are literally terrifying. This gives the game an amazing experience. The issue with the game i wont really say its not story based pr gameplay really but more cosmetic. And thats because of my personal taste for certain things

    The game is spectacular in its mechanics and in the narration of the story, but it is unnecessary to include political issues such as the LGBT community in a game. Without them, the game would be top notch. Just look at the example of The Witcher, Mario Odissey, Zelda, Uncharted, and several more. Hopefully Naughty Dog reconsiders.

You get through all that just to be dissapointed with the ending that makes no sense. TLoU part 2 looks amazing, the music and animations are amazing, the combat is improved a lot but the most important part of the game is the story and unfortunately story is the weakest part of the game.… Expand

I swore never to pre-order gain but this is was supposed to be a safe title. Instead, they did me like Call of Duty before I swore off that franchise. The term that comes to mind is poor, this is just a very poor game. Instructions, sneak, murder, scavenge sneak, murder scavenge. It felt a bit like a home walkthrough, something may catch your attention here and there but uneventful for the most part. Getting away from the story is one thing but this story took zero effort. They could’ve made this game about revenge and still had it be good if they gave two sh!ts about the story writing. It’s as if they were secretly purchased by EA or Activision to capitalize on their last hurrah. It’s as if Ferrari decided to totally destroy their brand by putting out garbage of epic proportions, mind-blowing. It took 7 years for this?!?! I would’ve wiped my a$$ with the booklet if I had purchased the physical game and sold it immediately to mitigate my losses. Never again, fuc* u Naughty Dog.… Expand

The Last of Us part 1 was my favorite game and I loved it so much I named my Cat Ellie after the game...i have had the videogame poster from TLOU1 framed in my living room for all these years, I'm a huge fan. Naughty Dog needs to apologize to everyone for TLOU2. I beat both games but the sequel is so bad... I wish they never made a sequel that's how bad it is. The wilderness/scenery is great but that's it. The storyline is absolute garbage. The game feels dragged out and I even was bored alot of the time. It felt like I kept playing hoping it would somehow get better and and I'd feel better about it already being ruined in the first 2-3 hours of the game but it only continues to be absolute garbage. I wanted to cry not because of how sad it was but how let down I felt by the game developers and writers. They had all this time and no one working there could convince them to redo it and that theyre ruining the whole game. This game made me feel like ill never have hope in games again. To the people who played this sequel and liked it...did you even play the first game?… Expand

    The Last of Us II was an unneeded sequel, before and after experiencing the game. The first game ended perfectly, and didn't need a follow-up, but I was interested nonetheless. This game however was not worth it at all. Character motivations and decisions are automatic in the since that they always go for the dramatic and violent action, regardless if it makes sense. There is no human story to this, unlike the first game. No hope, no reason to see these characters reach the end of their "journey." It is just an unending slog of revenge and death, with no alternative outlet or choice in the matter. You are told that everything you are doing is wrong, but are forced to play that way when you don't want to. You can't get invested in the characters because they are either underdeveloped or you lack sympathy for them, even though the game tries to get you to sympathize, it utterly fails at it. Just about everything is done for shock value, and along with the bemoaning cycle of revenge and death, this game have zero replay value and is a slog just to get through one play-through.

    I often felt that the game was pointless. What goal is worth all of this? Who should I root for? Why do characters keep choosing to kill each other when they have a way out? The game destroys the characters I cared about, both literally and psychologically, and tries to get me to like their killers. Sure, violence is bad...and that's it. The game doesn't really have much more to say. Remember when this was about surviving a post apocalypse with zombies? Yah, now people only care about what other humans are doing, which kinda misses the point of the setting.

    The gameplay is fine, basically the same as the previous game. The environments are stunning, as expected. Not to use a buzz term, but it is exceptionally applicable to this: The Last of Us II is much like The Last Jedi, you can have a beautiful looking piece of entertainment, but visuals alone cannot get you invested in it when its core-- the story and characters-- are rotten.

    The story is pitiful and its a shame that such a good looking game, let alone a sequel to a brilliant game, is utterly pointless when its all said and done. If you are looking for something with the same gameplay, stick with the first one and the Uncharted games. The only points this game gets is for its visuals, animation, and gameplay, which are expected to be good for a AAA game, but the story, which is the main selling point for The Last of Us II, is a disappointing, depressing, nihilistic trek that destroys what made the first game great, is drudgery to play because it makes you do things you just don't want to do or aren't invested in, and leaves you nothing in return except misery. The story however does not seem well developed, contrary to what the fortunate ones who received the game for free and in advance say. It seemed to me that the game was forcibly stretched and when the control passes to Abby, the charm is completely lost. Other than that I felt cheated! All the publicity was done exploring the image of Ellie and Joel, but Joel is murdered at the beginning and half of the game is played with Abby, including the player is obliged to remove Ellie and space her. I think a great opportunity to build a sequence really worthy of the first one was lost.… Expand

This game is definitely more difficult than its predecessor and the reward at the end of the tunnel, for the increased difficulty is a giant middle finger. In the end you end up losing almost everything you care for and have no idea what becomes of the MC not even a little. There are a lot of punishing games but not as many feel this unrewarding. With the lost of multiplayer your only option is to watch Ellie lose everything and everyone she cares about over and over again. I’ve been waiting so long for this game and I’ve already finished it and collected 60% of the trophies. So what now do I replay this depressing story and watch all my favorite characters suffer literally to no end.
    Honestly that’s my only choice, im at a lost. I’m pretty much done with it 3 days in.    … Expand

    I feel lied to. Im just gonna say it, I wish game trailers didn't false advertise what we were going to buy. I was one of the people defending this game before it even came out and at the end I was disappointed.

Killing Joel the way they did and how early in the game made me un-invested throughout the rest of the game.

    I tried my hardest to be open minded about playing as Abby but I just couldn't find any sympathy. After everything Ellie went through to try and kill her she couldn't just pull out her gun and finish it. This back and forth revenge on each other felt very childish and unoriginal.

    Over all I did enjoy this game to some extend and don't regret buying this game. I do however wish ND would have did things differently.    … Expand

    An excellent follow up to the first game.
    The combat and game mechanics that were great in the first game have been improved upon to give this game it's own unique feel without leaving it's roots behind.

    This game is way better than the first one, it gives an even crazier rollercoaster of emotions, the story is VERY WELL WRITTEN, the environments are breathtaking, the AI is pretty much one of the best of the generation, the amount of violence in this is pretty gory ( I exploded an enemy and I saw basically all of his organs spilled on the floor ), the game has a great pace, I've passed 4This game is way better than the first one, it gives an even crazier rollercoaster of emotions, the story is VERY WELL WRITTEN, the environments are breathtaking, the AI is pretty much one of the best of the generation, the amount of violence in this is pretty gory ( I exploded an enemy and I saw basically all of his organs spilled on the floor ), the game has a great pace, I've passed 4 hours playing continuously and didn't even think about the time I was playing, the time was flying away, the Infected are awesome, there are some brand new ones who scared the hell outta me, the facial expressions are the best I've ever seen, the dialogues are great, sometimes they are serious, sometimes they tell jokes, the enemies speak to each other and if One dies their friends are gonna notice and yell his name. The review bombing is not gonna affect the quality of this game, it's weird for these people who love to live the world of console war to give a shot to this game. People who have this 0/10 reviews are people who don't even own a PS4 to play and they are the ones who tried to give spoilers to everyone, guess what, the story is awesome and the gameplay is incredible, Naughty Dog and quality are a synonim.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a gamer who actually played through the entire game before writing a review, bravo Naughty Dog.

    I'd like to point out that both The Last of Us and the remastered version have just over 9000 user reviews each since their releases, which are overwhelmingly positive, and somehow The Last of Us Part II has 41629 user reviews on the third day since it's release, which are overwhelmingly negative. And if you do some scrolling through the reviews, you'll notice that most of them were written on the release day. It took me 25 hours to plow through the story and beat it on the easiest difficulty with minimal sleep and breaks over the course of two days, so there's no way that all these people actually beat it on release day.

    The new game has improved on a lot of the existing features and added a few new ones. Weapon and player upgrades have been expanded. The listening mode has been improved. There's plenty of optional objectives that usually result in upgrade materials, collectible items, or even a new weapon on occasion. There's new terrifying infected enemies and a boss that I'm sure will cause some nightmares. The game also provided some of the most beautiful scenery I've scene in a game yet and I had to stop several times to take a screenshot of the moment.

    As for the plot, there's way too much unwarranted hate. I loved Joel and I hoped that he wouldn't die, especially after hearing about and avoiding the leaked plot and the outrage, but it would have made sense for him to die at some point in the story. I wouldn't have killed him off so early in the game, and I would've had him go out in a blaze of glory defending Ellie or something, with sad but touching last words to her, maybe in a letter if he didn't get to say them, but I'm not the writer.

    I also noticed a lot of hate, dislike, or contempt for the portrayal of LGBT characters in the game, which is funny because the first game already had that to a lesser extent. Now it's at the forefront and people have a problem with it? Remember when Joel and Ellie had to seek out Bill, and when Ellie swiped one of his gay porno mags? Or the DLC 'Left Behind' when Ellie has her first kiss with her friend Riley? Although, I wasn't the biggest fan of Ellie's love interest, Dina, because she could've done better, but it was her first love, so I'll cut her some slack.

    The story WAS GOOD. Maybe it didn't go into every little detail that I would've liked, or expand on certain characters more, and it wasn't how I would've written it, but it was a good story overall. Putting you in control of the "enemy", Abby, and trying to humanize them and explain their motives was interesting. At one point, you have to try and kill Ellie, and it was hard to do because I didn't want her to succeed, so I let her die multiple times and enjoyed her deaths.

    The game had some interesting characters and it did really well at showing that sometimes good and evil are indistinguishable, which is something they explored in the first game with Joel, the fireflies, and now with the new factions. Everyone was doing bad things for the right reasons. It was all so morally grey. That's part of why I loved the story so much.

    Overall, I give the game a 9/10 because of the lack of multiplayer and improvements that could've been made, but I'll make it a 10 to spite the haters.    … Expand

    This is truly a terrific and at the same time terrifying game. As shown on the trailers the graphics, animation, environments, and overall feel of the game is beyond what I could describe.     As someone who considers the first game a masterpiece and one of, if not my all time favorite game, The Last of Us 2 has earned its place alongside the first in my mind. Even if I give the second one point lower than the first. Where this game fumbles is nothing compared to how it made me feel when the credits rolled. I loved it.

The first TLOU is easily one of the best games I've every played, so naturally when this game was announced it became my most hyped game for the next few years to come. Upon this games release I can honestly say that on the technical side of things, this is dang near a 10/10. Graphically the game is gorgeous, the animations are fantastic and the gameplay is good, although it really doesn't feel that much improved over the first game. However, the story of this game is awful. It feels like a cheap fan fiction that uses shock factor, and forced emotion(killing dogs, even a pregnant woman) for very cheap reactions. The whole idea of playing as Abby for almost half the game was ridiculously stupid. Especially after she brutally murders one of the all time great video game characters, not even 2 hours into the game. I found myself genuinely not caring about any of the new characters throughout the entire game. While I was really upset about Joel's death so early on in this game, I still tried to give it the benefit of the doubt, but the games story and often slow pacing disappointed me over and over and over again.     It's not good. Here's why:

    Actually just a movie, double standards on Sony's part, deceitful marketing, no focus on the zombies, weak plot with plenty of holes, but worst of all, no respect for Joel.

    If you're looking for a game like this, but done right, consider playing Metal Gear Solid 2 if you haven't already.

    The overall plot, aside from some side arcs here and there, takes some massively disappointing directions and virtually every main character is portrayed in ways that I found either completely irredeemable, pretty uninteresting or just unrealistic given the character development of the first game.

    The plot is also so intent on hammering you with its anvilicious point, which is cliche anyway, and unrelentingly bleak tone that even I find it to be an exercise in cinematic masochism.

    Not because I can't handle or don't like violence, death or dark stories, just the opposite in fact.

    Here it just feels like a pointless depressing chore with no light at the end of the tunnel.

    I expect to feel or learn something meaningful but you never do.

    The world sucks, people suck and sucky things happen, we all seen that done before.

    And YES, there is an unquestionable LGBTQ agenda of sorts inserted into the game and while it’s not necessarily the worst aspect of the game for me, I do think it comes off as fairly obtuse and contrived in the context of this story. I reflexively rolled my eyes more than once truth be told.

    However, as a fan of the first installment of the series, the most unforgivable thing the game does is how it goes about bludgeoning the main characters of the original game, in most ways characterization wise but often enough literally.

    Its like this game was made to be a spiteful and twisted mockery of everything that was great about the first game but filled with bad writing and subtle "woke" preaching.

    While the game is obviously far from the most egregious pile of garbage ever to hit a console... it is a huge misstep and a massive disappointment for me, especially given the masterful presentation and writing of Last of Us part 1.    … Expand

The end also becomes a joke and completely unsatisfying. Imagine chasing down any antagonist for a while game, killing all their allies, then deciding, nevermind.

    The game feels like a sad mix of Wking Dead for shock factor, Star Wars for ruining established characters, and GoT season 8 for failing to satisfy at the end.

    When the leaks hit and the director started screaming at people on twitter that if they didn't regard his work was a masterpiece or they're bigots... that's when I decided I'll rent it first from Redbox. Meanwhile dank memes flowed on subforums, and Sony hired third party goons who sent out illegal DCMA takedowns against youtubers and redditors. That made the trolls even more determined expose The Last of Us 2 for what it was. They even used super harsh embargos on pre-release/view copies while sold-out media jurnos gave it 100%s for fear of being blacklisted by Sony.

    Sad to say but this game is beyond tainted. I'm done with anything Naughty Dog or Neil Druckmann related. I couldn't stomach The Last of Us 2 after the first hour in, and thanks to the garbage people involved with the project, I didn't want to give it a second chance. This has been an embarrassment for the entire industry. Nothing stunning and brave about rushing this out just in time for "everything is gay" month of June. The disgusting portrayal of this patchwork abortion doesn't do the original Last of Us any justice or its fans what so ever. I'll give it a 1 out of 10 for nice graphics, but they couldn't even get that right since they never hit 60fps. Two thumbs down.    … Expand

It does make you feel sad most of the time, but a game that can do that, which can make you feel for each character, is awesome in my opinion. Like Last of Us 1 this is a completely story driven game and I cannot stress enough how good and complicated the story is this time.     Negatives: It takes every virtue signaling trope you can imagine and ham fists it into the game. You will hear the word "bigot" within the first 5 minutes.     It is ridiculous to call people who leave low marks in this game just 'Haters'. This is a well-made game, if the evaluation criteria are how much it gives player a bad feeling. The game is deliberately giving players a negative experience.
    If someone really played this game and left a positive review, they either didn't play the previous one, or they forgot all the content.

    The plot in this game is terrible compared to the first game, new characters are extremely cringeworthy and uncharismatic and as a player you will be forced to play as one of those badly written pathetic characters. Gameplay wise this game is not bad but the story will ruin the whole experience if you are the fan of the original game. I regret buying this game

    Even through the leaks, I still held hope that maybe the context from the rest of the game would smooth things over but they didn’t. Ellie feels like a shell of a character I loved. Any other character has some bipolar disorder since they change from being violent aggressive **** to your run of the mill average joe who cracks good jokes and wouldn’t hurt a fly. The story being told from Ellie’s perspective to Abbys gave so much whiplash I ended up feeling very indifferent at the end. I honestly don’t know what the whole point of this game was.
    Characters make obvious stupid decisions or are completely out of character just when we start to learn about them. And some are barely in the story at all that I feel nothing when they get killed off.
    Major sections of playtime feel empty since the character dialogue is either uninteresting or not there at all. Well except for the parts with Abby, who feels like she’s treated more as the lead protagonist than Ellie who’s on the cover of the game.
    I will say the gameplay has improved, if only slightly. The AI seems better and the level design more detailed and bigger. However it still falls flat when I can just run into a one door room and wait for enemies to line up for me to kill them. The dodge button still doesn’t feel right after 30hrs playing. At least the gunplay feels better. That’s about as much positives I can give this game besides the usual “It’s pretty and look how animated and lively Ellie moves”. Even though the characters are terrible I can at least say that the actors gave it their all. Especially with Lev and Yaras actors who surprised me the most.
    I waited 5 years after playing The last of us part 1 to completion to see what Ellie and Joel would do next. I admittedly was one of those people who said they preferred the first game to be a standalone game but I would lie to you if said I hadn’t screamed tears of joy learn there would be a sequel. 3 years of waiting learning all I could going to YouTube and twitter to listen to theories and speculations on what would happen. All that for it to be leaked and for me to see what the game truly is. For me to still buy it and feel even worse playing it.
    I never thought I would feel so empty playing a game before, ironically I hated the game in its entirety more than when I saw the leaks.
    What ever Naughty Dog does next I don’t care. They wasted my time for 3 years and 30+hrs for me to feel empty in the end, not angry(at least anymore), not sad(never cried once) not even at least satisfied. To whomever is reading this thank you for listening to my ramblings and please understand I tried to give this game a chance but if this is what you are looking for as your final decision to buy the game, I suggest skipping this one and saving your money for something else by watching it on YouTube. And if you still think I’m one of the review bombers and still are going to buy the game at least wait until the game is on sale beforehand.
    P.S. Falsely advertising this being Joel and Ellie’s story is disrespectful to your fan base and advertising that Joel is in the game longer than he actually is by swapping characters and models is cheap and disgusting way for people to buy your product    … Expand

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
