A total disrespect with the character and the fans. Oh graphics are fine, but after almost seven years it is the minimum we expected. And worse, you get to play as this trans! The story moved from heroism and loyalty to a teenager soap-opera.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Simply amazing. Graphics, animation and game play is so nice I've enjoyed every minute of playing it and planning to do so few times again. But the strongest thing on this master piece is the story. I cannot recall any other game which would be able to trigger so many different emotions in me. Of course, we all love Ellie and Joel after first game and secretly hoped for them to be main good heroes of the second part, but after finishing I'm so glad this game took me to different area. Oh, how uncomfortable I felt when started to play as Abby and how surprised I become when started to understand all her actions with the backgrounds. As well as I was stunned when Ellie showed her darker side by going directly for revenge in any cause and realizing it's consequences after. Part two gave me beautiful experience of how some things can be more than just straightforward good vs bad, every single event can have more points of views depending on who is experiencing it.… Expand

    An absolute rollercoaster of emotions and anxiety. You literally feel immersed into the characters and their lives / roles inside the incredible & beautiful environments. I believe it to be a masterpiece of a sequel, and the immense detail and design put into the game is phenomenal. 10/10

    It has the same gameplay of the 1st game and the expected graphics of a PS4 game: 5 points.

    It butchered an already developed character (pun intended) and has a sub par plot riddled with identity politics. Its a game that feels nothing like the 1st: -5 points.

I find it hilarious that people who complain about alleged "Reviews bombing" post reviews here that say nothing about the quality of the game and even admit that they only rate it to go against others and to manipulate the score, but whatever...

    Tlou2 hast good graphics and gameplay like its predecessor, its sound Design ist formidable, like its predecessor, and its really good at creating tension, like its predecessor. And here begin the problems, even for the stuff that's good there just isnt an awful lot of improvement compared to the original.

    Tension ist good, but where the first game switched between light and dark moments, adding contrast and therefore amplifying the emotional effects, Tlou2 for good parts, especially towards the end, is just all dark and the missing contrast makes you go numb rather than keeping you on the edge..

    However it is the story where things just fall apart, ND tries to convey the message that "vengeance is bad", which is cliche af and everyone already knew, but hey. They try to drive this home by splitting the game into a part where you play as Ellie from the first game and a part where you play as Abby, a new charakter who is introduced to us by means of her smashing Joels head in. And then they try to make you feel sympathy towards her... Yea, it just doesnt work.
    See, questioning the purpose of the fight and the status of the "villain" by making you play as him worked in Assassin's Creed 3 because you played as Kenway BEFORE being told that he was a templar. It made you question the evilness of the Templars by showing you that they believed themselves to be doing the right thing, because you believed yourself to be in the right while playing as him.
    Tlou2 introduced Abby by having her kidnap, torture and kill a fan favourite character from the first game and then makes you play as her going all "yea she has reasons and you should like her", well guess what it doesnt work. Matters arent helped by her being an unlikable ****
    It could have worked if they had put her part in the beginning of the game, having you hunt down her fathers killer without knowing who that is, and then after revealing it switching to Ellie, but the way it is it completely fails at what it sets out to do and the Abby Part is just dreadful to go thru as you have to play a charakter you despise.

    So the Story begins rather well, then turns to trash then gets somewhat better again and then culminates in an extremely unsatisfying ending. Glorious. And I paid money for that.    … Expand

    A mi tampoco me gustó la forma como se desarrolla la historia y la manera como te manipulan pero después de un tiempo reflexionas y aprendes a vivir con ello, ahí empiezas a disfrutar la historia de verdad. En jugabilidad y tecnicamente es un 10/10. La historia y la narrativa 9/10. Aún así, entiendo a quienes se han cabreado aunque no considero eso suficiente como para venir a llorar aquí a colocar 0 o 3.     No commitment to the characters we fell in love with in the first game. Forced SJW agenda. A very poorly written, generic revenge story with massive plot holes. An absolute middle finger to the fan base and one of the biggest storytelling meltdowns we have ever witnessed.

After 7 years of waiting, I would have expected a better plot than "Naruto vs Pain". As a big fan of The Last of Us 1 and a huge fan of the Uncharted series, Naughty Dog really blew it with this one. The idea, promise, characters of the first part are simply buried. Half of the game you are forced to play for an absolutely vile hero, trying to show two sides of the coin. But it does not work! A terrible sequel that evokes extremely negative emotions.

I miss the father/daughter aspect in the game sure but seeing how Ellie grows up and takes on the game on her own goes to show how strong of a character she actually is. Story is literally could have been so much more than what we have got. Writers and directors probably tried to leave their signiture with this game but failed terribly. Made me cry multiple times... it's such an emotional story, with such amazing characters... Don't lsiten to those hating on the game, if you played the first one and loved it, play this one too.     This game is definitely a tough pill to swallow, but I am glad I stuck with it for its entirety as this is without a doubt one of the most confronting & relentless video games I have ever experienced. Perhaps a little too heavy with the social commentary at times as well as some moments that will have questioning if it was included only to shock (not to mention I personally thought it could have had a little bit more optimistic moments like part 1 instead of being all “doom and gloom” for the majority), it is a technical achievement to behold with a story that will have you go through a whole spectrum of emotions. By the end of it i was satisfied with my 31 hours I spent playing and it’s going to be an experience I won’t be forgetting any time soon.

The game is simply stunning, and the gameplay, where sticking to the first game, and alike uncharted and tomb raider series, didn’t blow me away but I found myself loving it, as I always have. It’s a shame the reviews that purposely are just to hurt the games ratings are present as I’d be interested to see how it would have compared to red dead redemption. I don’t like placing a game which is so raw in my memory in any ‘top lists’ or ‘one of greatest games ever’ but I truly believe in 10 years time the last of us games will be looked back on so fondly, and will sure be one of my favourite games. As an avid gamer I often spend £50-60 on video games from release and it can end up being disappointing and feeling money could have been spent better elsewhere. TLOU2 certainly doesn’t go into that category. A game I truly loved.… Expand

    When I was playing the first part of The Last of Us I was around Ellie's age. And maybe because of it Joel became something like a figure that I would aspire to be if I would ever become a father. With being able to be the best dad every year despite being absent because of work. Going hiking with kid and stuff.

    Which is absolutely stunning achievement in bad story writing discipline is that they made Joel look way less as anti hero in sequel. Despite all efforts to bring the completely opposite effect.

    Maybe it's because every single character in this game is a lesser character than in previous game. Scenes presented in Part II have an emotional impact at first glance but it is all ripped apart when you start to understand how poor the writing is.

    The devs and artists did a great job with world, animations, models or graphics. Actors gave a truly amazing performance. And it is so sad that the plot ruined it all.

    Game that were supposed to bring diversity and characters from minority represents them as madmen and cold blood killers. It so awful and sad at the same time.

    I've got plenty of more problems with it, ex. false advertisement or repetitive game play but it all could have been overlooked if the story would be at least average.

    God this is first time that I would really love to see at the end that it all was just a bad dream. I would truly appreciate that plot twist.    … Expand

I don't understand how so many people can be so upset about the direction of the story alone. It's not poorly written. It's every bit as fantastic in it's writing as the first game was. The dialogue, the voice and motion capture acting is top notch. The gameplay is engaging and brutal, just as I expected. I marvel at the technological advancements of the game, they can't be praised enough.

    If you are on the edge on whether you should try the game or not, I say give it a shot. I enjoyed every minute of it and I'm already looking forward to whatever Naughty Dog does next.    … Expand

Yes, Tommy becomes a cripple and Ellie never gets the chance to forgive Joel as she wanted to try. But that’s a bit like life, a rollercoaster of emotions and conflict. I was conflicted when Abby was bashing and wanted to kill Ellie, I was in controller until I wasn’t, I wanted it to stop, but I felt the same when Ellie finally went for her final revenge. Lots of lovable characters died, I like Manny too! And Owen was alright. But that shows you how unforgiving this world is. Maybe Abby’s and Ellie being able to let go set path for something greater.… Expand

Made me cry a lot of times as well :D Sooo many little details (as expected from Naughty Dog) and really beautiful characters/world. I didn’t see any of the leaks, so I went in totally blind. Not gonna lie, I was scared what will happen because I heard people didn’t like the ending. I think it was perfect though. **maybe a mild spoiler here**
    I didn’t even know that we will play as Abby. First I was like "I’m not gonna play as this **** but after some hours I started to like her/her story and her friends as well.

It actually might have worked had this been an original story but they write off a key character of the first game early on in order for focus on ruining the other key character with a terrible plot, and the tragic thing is it's written expressly to pander to a demographic who are are unappeasable and probably won't be interesting in buying this anyway.

    The peak of this generation of console gaming.

    Amazing graphics, sound design, gameplay, level design and world building. It's NaughtyDog at his best.

    The story takes very bold directions, and it's definitely not for everyone. Even so, it's a 10/10 masterpiece.

    Druckmann said it himself, the first game was about love, this game is about hate. In the world that was established in TLOU, we learn that anything can happen. We took many lives without question, lives that had so much story behind them, and complicated people with relationships.

    I don't know about you, but I get reminded of that in this game whenever I killed a Rattler, Seraphite or a Wolf. The companions of my kill would cry out their name, and I'd feel bad. Having the same thing happen to our main characters is a bold move, but makes sense in the world of The Last of Us. Plot Armour doesn't exist in this game, and I love that.

    We knew Ellie was going to be the playable protagonist of this game. Joel's death being the reason that Ellie embarks on a bloodthirsty mission for revenge, works so well as we know of their relationship and we get sucked into the tone of the game early on. As opposed to spending hours getting to know a new character Ellie is close to, then having them killed off to ignite Ellie. That just wouldn't make sense, and seem forced.

    Abby. At the start of the game, I hated her. At the end of the game, I didn't know who to root for. Part of me didn't want to support either character, but part of me didn't want either of them to die in the final showdown. Ellie and Abby have such a great parallel, they're very similar, but Abby is a bit more compassionate than Ellie.

    Abby spared Ellie's life twice, even after she murdered all of her friends. Sure, Abby has done some **** up things, but so has Ellie, and so did Joel. In the end, Ellie had to fight with herself to let Abby live, the same decision that Abby quickly made for Ellie's life when Lev intervened.

    Ellie learnt from Abby, I hope what helped Ellie realise that taking Abby's life wouldn't make her feel any better, was the flashback of her approaching Joel. We know after that scene, is where Ellie agrees to start trying to forgive Joel for what he did at the hospital. I believe sparing Abby is her first step to forgiveness. That is HUGE character development for Ellie. She didn't want to kill Abby in front of Lev, as that would just start the cycle again and parallel Joel getting killed in front of Ellie. 18 months had passed of Lev being with Abby, I guarantee they grew really close and Lev would hunt down Ellie if Abby had been killed by her.

    Ellie abandoning her life in the woods with Dina and J.J. to seek revenge one last time, to only grant mercy and forgiveness to Abby, things start to look up for Ellie's future.

    Next scene, she's lost 2 fingers that Abby bit. As a guitarist my immediate thought was **** those are her guitar fretting fingers.".

    Walking into the house we find it empty, I put off going into Ellie's room as I was hoping it would be empty too, that Dina took Ellie's stuff and is waiting for her back in Jackson. My heart sank when her room was full of her belongings and untouched, the guitar sitting there.

    I knew she wouldn't be able to play it, but I tried so damn hard to play the song that I knew she was going to play, the one Joel wrote for her. To Ellie, her guitar playing is the last thing that relates her to Joel, and that was stripped from the same person that took Ellie's life, but Ellie isn't angry any more. Even though she has lost everything, I think she realises it's because of her own choice and actions, that she's here now, and she accepts it. Monumental character arc, I cried.

    I saw someone rate this game 1/10 because the "girls are ugly." god, some world we live in. People complaining that a game is too political because it's a diverse game that deals with and represents people that exist in REAL LIFE. YES PEOPLE, THIS **** HAPPENS IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD. GAY PEOPLE, TRANSGENDER PEOPLE, YES THEY EXIST. The apocalypse doesn't stop that **** Please remove yourself from the gene pool if that's what makes you hate this game. Abby is ****in' built like a tank, and I wouldn't **** with her lol. If you're intimidated by a muscular woman, you have no dick.

    Story of this game? ****ing brilliant.

    World building and expanding from the first game : Outstanding.

    Character Development? Phenomenal.

    Gameplay and visuals? Did you play it? You already ****ing know it's all fantastic.

    Almost no change whatsoever in gameplay, besides being able to jump and climb. Characters are bland and uninteresting, and the encounters with the infected are much less often now with an obscene design to one of the new infected enemies. Obviously is not fun to play, actually most miserable game I've experienced ever. First off, I don't care about lgbtq, it doesn't matter to me, I absolutely don't care. What matters to me is how out of characters are in this game. How disrespectful it is to kill off Joel in the way they did. He deserved much better than this. Again, not disappointed of because he dies, it's how he died. Joel died without purpose, like a piece of garbage, like he meant nothing, by a new character who he saved multiple times before getting tortured by her. Abby, who brutally tortured and killed most beloved character in franchise, showing no remorse of taking her revenge was put in game to force players to sympathize with. FOR WHAT PURPOSE?? for what reason why we needed all of this, to care for her? It's disgusting having to play as Abby to cause even more pain for Ellie. So at this point, the game focuses on revenge. So how does Abby, who got her revenge get everything she wanted in the end, she suffers nothing from damage she caused to Ellie, she learned NOTHING.     The Last of Us Part II is the best game made by Naughty Dog on PS4. The History of Ellie and her journey with Joel in First part was amazing but The Last of Us II is masterpiece. Every normal player must experience this fantastic story. Graphics and game physics are absolutely perfect. I Recommends this game for everybody.

    The first The Last Of Us was amazing, very good, but this one, really bugged, frame drop a lot, I felt like my PS4 Pro could fly anytime. But the worst was the I felt the history very short, much more about being a leftist propaganda than an post-apocalyptic game background like the first one.

If you loved the original characters you will be seriously disappointed with this sequel. Creative director Neil Druckmann has trolled loyal fans by delivering the complete opposite of what they wanted. Joel and Ellie might as well not be in this game. If you really cared about those characters (like I did) then give this a hard pass. The level of narcissism shown by Druckmann is unfathomable. I cannot imagine how he was allowed to derail what could have become a billion dollar franchise. This game will be bought by many loyal fans and like me they will feel betrayed by the false advertising and the blatant lies that tricked them into parting with their money. Sure the game has pretty graphics and smooth game play but beyond that it is soulless. It desperately attempts to be clever by forcing you to commit acts of atrocity and then preaches to you about how awful this is... it’s moronic, patronising and simply fails on every level. The female writer that delivered the brilliant original had no hand in this utter garbage and it shows. I will never buy anything remotely connected to Neil Druckmann ever again. I sincerely hope that his career is over. Don’t waste your time or money, Ghost of Tsushima is coming out soon and then CyberPunk is following later on this year. My advice is to save your money for what are much more likely to be quality entertaining titles. Or if you really need an apocalypse fix and haven’t yet played Days Gone, it’s definitely worth a look, it’s the entertaining sequel that this game should of been.… Expand

In my opinion it is just a big SJW political statement that they put in this game like the gamers who loved the first game going completelly blind on this **** story.     The appeal of this game as his predecessor is the plot. This is a heavy plot-based game where characters are the most uninteresting and the decisions feel forced. It's also a long game, if you watch a 2 hour movie and is trash at least it was a short experience, this game lasts 25 hours and doesn't redeem his poor writing at any point.

    Best game i've ever played. Anyone will be on a great journey and will learn a lot about new and old characters, but a lot about himselfs too. A great masterpiece with a perfect ending, I love it! Thanks Naughty Dog for this game

    People simply feel that way about the game. The game makes them feel that way. It's legit.

    Before I go into detail as to why I rate the game so low I wanna say that I never played the first part and didn't know any of the characters previously, so that didn't have any effect on me. Still from all the characters I saw in the second part, I thought Tommy and Joel were the most appealing and interesting ones, so I was kind of disappointed when we didn't get to play with them, but ok.

    The other characters were ok, though and the story isn't entirely bad in my opinion. It makes a statement without anyone actually putting it into words. BUT I don't wanna play games like that. There's enough misery going on in the world, I don't need it to provoke thought in my free time, the time I need to get my mind off things. I watch the news every day, I am aware of the effects of revenge, escalations etc etc. I don't need to be lectured about that in a game. Doesn't mean there can't be any intelligent statements, no morals at all. But this game is like solely about that. It is depressing in many, many situations.
    Then there are some plot holes and illogical premisses...I don't wanna spoil, in case someone doesn't know the game yet, but you'll probably notice them yourself. In the end you might find yourself feeling like....wtf, it was all for nothing! At least that's how I felt... frustrated and downright sad and like I needed to lick my wounds. Throughout the games there were some uplifting moments, but they were very sparse and in no way adequate to make up for the rest.

    I forced myself to finish the game, though because I wanted to see everything before I judge it. I really had a hard time. The gameplay is mediocre and not appropriate for a game in 2020.
    The graphics are mostly very nice and there are beautiful landscapes. There was also a lot of weird glitching (horses, dogs, fighting scenes) and the 30 fps were a strain on my eyes. Sometimes had to stop playing because it gave me a headache.

    My verdict: The few good points don't make up for the rest. I feel like I should have watched the game on stream instead of buying it. In fact I regret spending that money. Next time naughty dogs releases a game I'll be sure to check it on stream or youtube first.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
