    Ignore the obvious review-bombing by unhappy fans that were pissed about Joel getting a golf club taken to his head. If you're mad that a fan favorite character was killed, and you expected him to be a hero, you completely missed the point of the first game, and this one as well. Joel was a **** monster. He massacred an entire hospital worth of people who could have cured the virus, just because he couldn't bear losing Ellie. That's disgustingly selfish. With this game, while I do understand that playing as the character who killed Joel could piss off a lot of people, the writers intended for us to see both sides of the story. In Abby's world, Ellie and Joel are the villains. Joel murdered her father, and she wanted revenge. The events of the first game set up this cycle. There is a proverb that states "When you embark on a journey of revenge, be sure to dig two graves."

    I also can't praise the environments, the lighting, animations, and design of this game. It is an absolute visual masterpiece.

    My final thoughts on this game are: It was dark, like Requiem for a Dream dark. It is not meant to be a feel good story. At times it can be downright disturbing. But at the end of it, I was left with a feeling of satisfaction. Do I think the ending made sense the way it happened? In my view, unless Abby and Ellie killed each other at the end, the way it actually ended was the only way it could have ended. I don't know what's in store for LoU3, but I'll damn sure be waiting with baited breath for what will hopefully be a fantastic conclusion to an amazing story.    … Expand

There are several moments of actual terror and good jump scares. The story makes you think of the consequences of your actions especially when it comes to revenge. How many times have we murdered without thinking about it. In this game we see both sides and end up feeling empathy for both sides. I loved it from start to finish i really did.… Expand

The game is really disappointing, the game is visually beautiful, the only plus to a very negative game, but that doesn't make up for the horrible story. Just two hours into the game, you will be very disappointed, as you switch from your beloved characters from the first game to a confused individual that only wanted revenge cause of daddy issues. You are forced to play a Ma'am, the most unliked character possible, with a horrible story, no arch, and one of your beloved characters that isn't killed, by the way all men die in the game, is the villain. Abby wins in the end with no downside, it really speaks to the woke mess of a game this is. My advice, don't waste your money on this garbage, once you open it, you can't return it, and trust me, once you open it, you will wish you hadn't.… Expand

When you create a game, you expect players to have some kind of agenda towards the game, some motivation for them to play. When you motivate players to start playing the game, because they hate it and want revenge for the character they love – that is a failure from the start. Players won’t appreciate even the most polished game, when they hate the motivation to play it.

    As a player, I have to care about the game to play it, now I don’t. The point of the whole thing is to be excited to play the game. To be exited of gameplay complementing the story. To be exited to go all the way through along with your character to see how it ends. I’m not exited already. And I won’t be, knowing that the ending goal is to meet someone who killed the character I liked. I don’t even want to continue the story now. No excitement at all. I just feel miserable.

    I hate Abby and I don’t care about her actions being justified towards Joel. This was never black and white matter. This was always about picking sides. And I pick the side of characters I like. I hate that game forces me to try sympathize with Abby and even force me to play her. The game is done for me the same moment I had to start playing Abby. I will refund this garbage.    … Expand

    I played the first game with my family and it was a masterpiece. This game is an insult to every fan of the series. The storytelling was atrocious and this game tried to make up for its lack of storytelling with pandering. Easily one of the biggest flops in gaming history. I can't believe they let us down this bad after all the years we spent waiting.

    It's an incredible game! Amazing how it can stay in the edge of technology, with stunning graphics and gameplay as well as bringing such necessary subject: equality and inclusion. Kudos to Naughtydog for being bold and brave.

    If u are someone who wants to play a game for fun and gameplay I really recommend this game but if you are someone who wants a great story this doesn't deliver a great story.

Definitely not comparable to the first last of us. It's just disappointing in so many ways, but mainly story and its characters. Characters are not likable or relatable. Since this is not a movie (although at times it feels like it due to the amount of cutscenes) it is harder to play an unlikable character that you just don't root for. All in all, it's just not worth the price or the time to play this game.… Expand

    I really loved Joel and Ellie. The Last of us part one was the best game i ever played. I cried playing that game. Last of us Part 2 is a major letdown. Utter garbage. Character assassination. Stupid identity politics. Naughty Dog is dead to me.

    First of all. The graphics, is some of the best out on the ps4. From the beautiful outdoors at Jacksons, to the dark apartment buildings in Seattle. It's just as breathtaking, as the first game. The gameplay from the first game, was improved with more mobility, a new "skill tree", greater combat, new and enhanced enemy type and more. Now to the story. The first chapter of the game felt compelling and emotionel, but after that, the story kind of went in all directions and the ending felt kind of rused. Still the game was allot of fun, and I hope that there will be som dlc to the game, or even som sort of multiplayer.… Expand

    É muito interessante a forma em que a história se desenvolve, a forma em que todos os "vilões" tem um peso e não são só pessoas aleatórias que querem fazer o mal por querer. gostei da mensagem (que o jogo faz questão de reforçar várias vezes), gostei dos detalhes, das reviravoltas, dos personagens e a maioria das coisas estão muito bem construídas.     Loved it, played por hours straight and just realized it 15 hours after starting it, kept playing. I never was a huge fan of these games but holy **** this one is good. Awesome art, awesome story, awesome characters and character development, great sound effects and soundtrack.
    The only thing that made me uncomfortable was the sky, but that's just a small detail on a huge game.     Neil Druckmann pissed all over this franchise. This game did not need a sequel, and it really shows when it comes to the plot. The graphics and game play are at least what you'd expect from a triple A studio, but god damn does this story just suck the farts out of my **** Do not buy.

Well written stories about vengeance have existed for decades in both movie and video-game from. This game, is not one of those. The writing of the story and the characters is genuinely bad. Characters are selfish and unlikable, story jumps between feeling like a snoozefest to being predictable and unpleasant. No one wanted to play Abby, no one cares for her story or her reasons as to why she does what she does. We fell in love with Joel and Ellie, and this game completely takes a dump on those two characters as we knew them. There's nothing 'pleasant' about this game, no matter how I try and stretch it. The only aspects worth praising in this game, are the visual representation and design of the story and the world around us. Game mechanics also aren't inherently bad either, but they're not standing out in any shape or form either. The brutality and reality of taking someones life is the exceptional part of those mechanics, so I'll give it that. Overall, I could not bring myself to care about any of these characters due to their selfish, childish and nonsensical decision making and behavior. I realize that all humans are imperfect, but there are too many characters in this game that are simply irredeemable. Story arguably was the most important part of this game, yet they completely dropped the ball on it. This game is not worth the praise. But then again, journalistic integrity does not exist. The media will continue to spread lies how ALL the negative reviews are made by people who haven't played the game and by people who simply hate diversity and yadda yadda yadda. Think for yourself people! Don't let the media feed you whatever they want you to think.… Expand

    The best game of this generation, incredible graphics with a devastating story. A great soundtrack. Ellie is a great character, full of thirst for revenge. No one can pass up this great game. Playability that improves everything in its predecessor. Violent and moving game. Quite an experience.

    The story is not for everybody but it clicked for me after a while. Graphics, sound and gameplay is top notch. For me the ending was a bit disappointing i wished for a bit more conclusion where the characters ended up.

Not to think of every game need to end with an happy ending is a brave step. In this dystopian world where the humankind story is not going in the direction of happiness and world peace, there needs to be a place for story’s like The Last of Us.

Oh man, this game is such a shame, to everything the first game delivered on, They kill of Joel early on in the gameplay, and want you to feel sad for the girl they make you play through half the story, "Abby." There's nothing wrong with killing off big characters, if done correctly, but here it was clearly not the best of writing, very lacking. in the first game Joel even says never trust strangers, and never tell them your name, guess this game takes place in an alternate dimension or something because he does exactly that right off the bat. Later in the story They give you the perspective of Abby's dad which was the doctor Joel killed in the first game, the doctors logic was rather flawed they even show this he, has a discussion with a coworker about how he would have to kill Ellie to make the cure, and he doesn't even think twice he instantly wants to kill her regardless of Ellies, or Joels thoughts on the matter, he's asked if he would do the same if it was his daughter several times, and he still wants to proceed basically ignoring anyone else's concerns, it's borderline pyscotic. The writing and pacing is pretty atrocious i would expect better from TLOU devs considering the first game, but i guess that wasn't a priority. Combat is decent, but pretty repetitive at times, but not even the best combat can save a poor story especially in a game where good writing is to be expected. Honestly this game would have been better of never leaving production, and not ruining TLOU original game's glory, I feel bad for the people that were more invested into this game than i was, and now have to live with this shameful story that i wish i could just forget to be honest. I understand that everyone has different opinions, but critics giving this game 9/10, or 10/10 just to get on Sonys good side is pretty disgusting, and the same can be said about the Awards, and Rankings i mean the fact that on this site it says it's the best ps4 game of 2020 is quite the jest, gotta keep big corporate Sony happy right? With this i say good bye to TLOU's life it had a great first game, and was completely destroyed by the second game. I honestly could not be more disappointed in this game; I could understand their decisions early on but to have us play as the last character left that we have an emotional attachment to and then SWITCH halfway through and make us play as the enemy and force her storyline on us to make us feel bad is absurd. You even play as the enemy and hunt Ellie... and if she kills you, you lose the game. The ending is absolutely atrocious too, it's not even a payoff in a sad way... it's just no payoff at all. I absolutely loved the first game but this one made me sad I didn't just watch streamers play and save my money.… Expand

    This game is great. Starts of with a similar theme as the first game, and then goes darker. I wish there were little more different gameplay mechanics, but I still liked it.

    Do not look at the reviews that are scoring it below 6, I say 6 because that would make their reviews respectable, it is just hatred for how the game treated certain characters. But that is how this world works, it is brutal and really makes you realize a sense of loss. Something Ellie couldn't fully understand in the first game, but by the end of part 2, she realizes it.

    Unfortunate, that she took the path of anger, and no regard for human life to get there, its almost Walking Dead-ish in that sense with the introduction of Negan and how it affected characters we loved.

    All things said, with graphics, sound, animation, the world created, and just everything together its an 8 for me, but I will bump it to account for some of the ridiculous hateful scores.    … Expand

    My problems with the game begin with the moral line that    I hated this game, but I'm going to give naughty dog the benefit of the doubt and assume that is exactly what they wanted. Well, they were successful. The story of the last of us 2 is uncomfortable, violent and tragic. It follows Ellie as she descends down a path of vengeance, and the player is there for every bloody moment of it.

    My problems with the game begin with the moral line that is painted in the first game, where killing is necessary to survive in a post apocalyptic world. The first game created the definition of the moral grey area that comes with survival, but the last of us 2 not only crosses this line, it leaps over it and does a little dance to taunt you. The game is simply tragic, and not in an Othello kind of way. Rather the game feels like it is playing with the emotions of its fans with no payoff. The only purpose in Ellie's story I could draw by the time the credits rolled was a theme that has been told over and over again in many other forms of media, and honestly the theme had no place in the follow-up to a game about hope.

    Playing the last of us 2 has ruined the last of us 1 for me. The original game used the main antagonists of itself as a metaphor for its story. The firefly's shared the motto "When you are lost in the darkness, look for the light". In the last of us 1, Ellie was the light. The last of us 2 takes this beautiful theme and burns it in front of you, forcing you take it all in as everything you loved about the first game is stripped away. As a stand alone story, the last of us 2 is beautifully written and a feat of story telling, but as a sequel to one of the last generations most beloved games this is unnecessarily cruel.

    The gameplay of the Last of us 2 is an improvement over the original. It is still just as fun and intense, with a few small additions to the gameplay that add variety, such as new guns and toys for the player to craft and utilise in creative ways. There is not too much to say about the gameplay component other than if you enjoyed the last of us 1 purely for the gameplay, then you will me more than satisfied here.

    Despite the story, the atmosphere, sound and level design of this game provide for some of the most beautiful scenarios I have seen on in generation of consoles. Just like how the first game felt like you were playing on a next generation console early, this experience is no different.

    I can praise the last of us 2 on its gameplay and atmosphere all day, which if I didn't mention, it nailed, but I played this game for its story. The first game left me feeling empty, as I wanted to continue following Joel and Ellie's story and felt empty without them. This game did the same, but instead of wanting the game to continue I was left wishing it never happened. I wish that the continuation of Joel and Ellie's story was left up to my own imagination, as was originally intended. At the end of the day, I I would encourage you to play the game and form your own opinion, however be warned that the bigger the fan you are, then the bigger the letdown this will be.    … Expand

    Great game love it. Definitely recommend. I expected a lot more violence from what ppl were saying but it's really not that bad the god of war series was more violent.
