Graphics: Really good (as expected from Naughty Dog). Beatiful landscapes. It's the only reason this game will get a 1/10 from me.

Story/characters: That's the most important aspect in a The Last of Us game, and they dropped the ball really hard here. This game disrepects not only the original fans, but every single character previously stablished. It sacrifices its own story to tick off as many boxes as possible in the character diversity checklist. It's not only cheap, it's disgraceful.
There's a point in the game where an NPC Neil Druckman literally spits on Joel's face, perfectly illustrating what this game is all about: him spitting in the face of everything we liked about the series . And that's just what this terrible director does to the fans, gives us a spit in the face. I am only grateful the Uncharted franchise ended before Naughty Dog could shred it to pieces, like it did in The Last of Us part 2.

The story is made to stab a knife on you, it will destroy you, you will be angry for the things that happens, but you need to understand that this is a world where these and worse things can happen, the death of Joel is the consequence of the things he did in the final part of the first game, and if you think with a cold head, you know that Abby had more than one reason to kill him, i'm not defending her, i wanted her to die too and i was angry when Ellie let her escape, but then i understood why she decided this. You may hate or love the story, but you can't deny that the rest of the game (Gameplay, Graphics, Level design, etc) are the top of the industry right now. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was so hyped for me that I disappoint me the first 30 minutes going to the game they killed Joel from the beginning. When this happened all I felt was hate for the Abby the person who killed Joel but then they make me play with her for more than 6 hours a girl that I don’t give a penny about they try to make me sympathetic towards her but failed to do so I hated her since the beginning. The way the killed Joel is nothing what Joel will do. Joel will not trust random people he met he will be suspicious and will not say his **** name I mean come on naughty dog the first game clearly showed he had trust issues but no killed him and ruin the whole game. To make matters worse you can’t even killed Abby in the end game Ellie let’s her go just leaving you there. You killed everyone but the one person you hated the most bruhh what a disappointment a waste of 60 dollars on my opinion just stick with the first game Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics were incredible, beautiful scenery, animations, etc and really good gameplay. But, those aspects alone can't make a good game. The story was lacking, a big hit to a story-based game. The character development was somewhere on a scale of bland to nonexistent. The only new character I somewhat enjoyed was Dina although even she didn't have much of a personality aside from existing to be Ellie's relief. I wish they had given the side characters as much thought and development as Tess or Bill. Abby's motives were understandable but her story seemed forced and left no real room for empathy. (Her story would have been better executed if we played as her for the entire game and actually built a relationship with her and her father, even if it led up to Joel's death, or a choice to kill him at the end - anything would have been better than the story they gave us.) After the entire story played out, we were met with an unfulfilling ending. If Joel's death and him being spit on wasn't enough, Ellie lost her fingers and overall ability to carry on his legacy. I can only assume this was Naughty Dog's way of saying "That's it. The game you loved is now dead. Hope you enjoyed. Thanks for the 60 bucks." It just felt like the story was written by a person who hated the first game, I'm not even sure if it was written by the same people because it's so one-dimensional. Overall, 3 out of 10 because again, the graphics and gameplay are nothing compared to the story. If a game was made with stick figures but had an amazing story, it would get a 10/10 from me, this game has no excuse. Expand

Incredible intertwining story with a revenge story from two characters, not fully understanding each other’s motives, abbys father being killed by Joel and preventing a cure, and Ellie’s ‘parent’ being murdered with her knowing why only until the end she realises and resulting in her letting Abby go, had me questioning which one I’m supposed to care about which was difficult as they each had the moral driven reasons. was not disappointed with not one bit of the game, each gun fight, encounter cutscene had me catching my breath at the end of it. Incredible sequel the outstanding first game, thanks naughty dog. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First thing I'm not a bot, I LOVE Naughty Dog, and the LOU 1 is my fav game. I stayed away from the spoilers and played for myself. That being said I hate this game! I hated almost all of this game.

Everyone is talking about how bad the story is (it is) but what I'm not hearing is how unnecessarily LONG & repetitive it is. I'm not complaining that it's long I like long games but with this, for me there's just no joy after clearing a level feeling like its done then having to do it ALL over again with a different background. It was non stop the same **** over, and over, and over, and over without any payoff. The first game gave us some kind of "hope" at the end of each level or chapter with the second I found myself wanting to quit because I didn't care at all about what was happening and who it was happening to. I hate this game. The only reason I played all the way though was to see how bad the ending would be, and it didn't disappoint.

I didn't mind Joel dying, in fact I thought that would have to happen, I mean why else would Elle want to "kill them all"? They way they killed him makes zero sense, the fact the people that did it kept those Ellie & Tommy alive makes no sense. Crazy thing is that I was all fine and dandy to go along with it because I trust the people who made some of my fav games that they'd make this all make sense to me. Spoiler they don't.

Its just awful playing this game when you know about 10 hours into just killing about 5000 one of three different ways that you still have 15-20 more hours of this ****.

The graphics are amazing! But I don't play games because of great graphics. The Abby and Lev story was the best part of the game for me, The sky bridge part was freaking AWESOME to play in the game. Problem though I **** HATED ABBY! Thats not gonna change and didn't even after seeing her side of things. She kills a man we love with a golf club, enjoys killing "scabs", pushes away a man that lovers her only to have sex with him after he's with another women who's present with said guys kid, when she's going to kill Dana she finds out she's pregnant and with a knife to her says "good" with almost a smile on her face before Lev stops her. Why should I care about this person. Every time she died when I was playing I enjoyed it, I even let Ellie kill her 4 times in the theater.

Gráficos e jogabilidade me agradaram! Porém, detonaram a história...

If one of you would have played the DLC "Left Behind", you'd already know that. But I'll put that beside now, that's not what I'm here for. As of now, I've played a little bit more of twelve hours straight throughout the night, and if you think my four year long occurring imaginations were not disappointed, you're absolutely right. NAUGHTY DOG, HANDS DOWN TO YOU! You have raised the bar of storytelling, again, and by God, it's epic. The characters are made up in such fantastic ways, that you can always, always feel with them, no matter if it's sadness or joy. The action parts, along with "running from death" parts as I call them, are absolutely incredible well cutted, it's like a movie. I haven't finished yet, but I can say it were the best seventy euros I spent on a game in 7 years. If you play games for their combat and graphics, then you will love this game but if you care at all about the point of the game and the storyline. then you will be extremely dissapointed.
Just imagine playing as the character that kills your favorite character. it's a complete waste of time.

You're supposed to feel angry about Joel, its part of the games progression to feel what Ellie feels and you're missing out on one of the most incredible games of all time by leaving it at your base level emotion. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The fact that people have been giving this game a zero is disrespectful. I understand that people are angry because of Joel's death. I get that, it's a very sad and dark moment for all fans, I was super pissed, and that fact that they had the guts to make us ,the players play, as Abby for the whole second half the game was disgusting. However, i soon realized that this was a vital move for the theme of this story. Even though playing as Abby is my least favorite part of the game that section brought to the table what the first game brought. Two people randomly meeting each other developing a special bond creating some of the best story moments in the game. Abby meets and interacts with some of the best characters I have seen in video games this past generation. This also allows the player to see both sides of the spectrum showing why Abby does what she does. Even though this game tried its hardest to make me sympathize for Abby, I just never could. Instead I always saw myself caring for the characters around her like Lev, Yara, and Owen but never her. So this makes it tens times harder for the player whenever it comes down to the moment when "crap hits the fan" and certain character suffer from terrible fates. However in some cases this games story does feel all over the place because of the random flashbacks in key moments that draw you away from the main story. Also the looting after killing dozens of men and the characters just super cheery and talking to each other like nothing happened bothers me. But these moments do not justify the right to give the game a zero. You can tell just by the loading screen this game has some much hardwork and dedication poured into it and over thousands of hours of work put into it. It really is a beautiful game and the gameplay is phenomenal. This game really shows the full potential games can reach in the next generation. Lets get back to the discussion of the story. Even though it may seem like just a classic revenge story with the whole story showing why revenge is "bad" it is way deeper. Naughty Dog whole point of this game is to go beyond and do something no one has ever done. Each characters decisions feel like they have impact and weight to the world, and it gives you this feeling that you will not know what happens next. This game made me UNCOMFORTABLE, I felt like any second a character I loved would soon have their life drained from their bodies leaving me with a feeling of dread constantly. Showing how truly evil human beings are. The story is not supposed to make people happy. *THIS IS NOT A HAPPY GAME* it is eery dark and scary. Every choice Ellie and Abby make are not good and alot of the times questionable. Because of this I was left speechless and sad over the things I had done to these people even though it seems like they deserved it. Even though playing the game through Abby ultimately hurt the game and killed the story for alot of people, and me to a certain extent, I believe that is the whole purpose. The point of this game is not to be happy with the outcomes but to be mad and frustrated with what happens because life is not always a happy story. That's why TLOU Part II is simply one of the best games I have ever played. Because it shows us what the dark side of humanity is. Expand

I am writing this review to unpack the baggage i just was saddled with. On the plus side, i wasn't spoiled on anything prior to playing. I had no idea about what i was going into, aside from hearing about the crazy reviews.

The game is beautiful. Insanely beautiful from a graphics standpoint. Set pieces and lighting are amazingly well put together. Facial Mocap is some of the best i've ever seen in a game, and maybe even hollywood. These characters look real.

The gameplay is a problem child. It has been a while since i played the original TLOU or even Uncharted, but this feels very very clunky to me. I found myself constantly ambushed, while sneaking, and even with extra weapons I could never swap weapons, aim and shoot before i had 8 runners wailing on me. this gets even worse later when enemies get more ferocious and harder to spot in tight quarters. towards the end of the game i was forced to go from Moderate difficulty to easy just to progress. Which ties into my next item.

This game is exhausting. you will be going from one tense scenario to another nonstop for a good 15-20 hours. Ammo is scarce, weapons plenty, but there never seems to be enough to handle things easily. You can't Solid Snake this game, but neither can you Nathan Drake it. Go in guns blazing, you'll be overrun in seconds. Sneak around and take people out with silenced weapons and you'll run out of mats very fast. I found myself never sure how to actually play the game the most efficiently.
The enemy variety doesn't make things any easier. very rarely will you find the easy route of slowly sneaking past a pack of clickers like in the first game. Human enemies are brutal, always managing to flank and allow their bigger tanks to engage while they snipe at you.
The ally AI however, doesn't seem to be much use. Except for a few scripted events, they just got in the way mostly. They don't alert enemies, even if they run in front of a baddie while you're trying to hide, but they also don't seem to take down very many enemies in fights.

The biggest thing. Story. I feel like a story was told. but im not sure what the moral was. was there a moral? I also feel like the pacing could have been a little better, maybe less jumping around. On the upside, there are some genuinely funny and heartwarming flashbacks here. I feel it could have used more of them as a whole.

Other thoughts. This game is brutal. extremely so. I don't remember TLOU being this gory. By about 12 hours into the game I was ready to be done. I just wanted this whole **** up story to be over and done so i could move on. The game continued another 10ish hours and almost seemed to end another 2 times before i saw the credits. By the end i was mentally exhausted. I can honestly say i will never play this again, and i won't recommend it to anyone looking for a fun time. The amount of stress it puts on you is too high, and the amount of payoff is so very very low.

I'm not going to bomb it. It is a genuinely good game despite my complaints. Just don't expect TLOU. this is another dog.

We have friends among gays, lesbians, queers, transsexuals and people, who feel and see the world differently and our tastes are almost the same in movies, music or games, and even if not, we still know how to make ourselves and our thoughts clear to each other, but I guess some people, and I'm talking here about the main creators of tlou II, don't know how to show their feelings and passion. The worst part of tlou 2 is the bad copy-paste from Quantic Dream's project, Beyond Two Souls, where David Cage tried to show, how some scenes, seen or felt, demand your reaction or negative thinking to highest point, however, in BTS we were given a chance to decide what to do, making manipulation feel less distracting, but, I guess, Naughty Dog thought that this aspect is not critical: here we go, manipulation over feelings - failed, the story makes the player feel devastated, not from the narrative, but from its absence of logic. Characters are hollow and gray, mostly the old ones, from the first game. I don't judge the actions of the new characters, because their reactions and feelings are true enigma to me, not because they are complicated, let's say that basic patterns and ideas were mostly witnessed before their realisation in this game, making this game less and less entertaining. Whenever the action is read before its realisation - you wish to skip and go on. Right before tlou fans eyes everything was torn apart and put into the ... sewers, yeeeeahhh. Let's go on. Story of Joel and Ellie would be completed in this story - everyone was hoping for it, but Propp's standard of storytelling was put to test by the main director, who thought, maybe, I don't know, that storytelling is something that changes by itself... I wish I had the physical copy of a game just to destroy it, but instead I have the digital version of it and the feeling of being punched on my ass and wallet (money money money must be funny in Neil Druckmann's world) many times by Neil is still something that will pursue me until my last days of sony-fan-boy, because it is crucial to mention how all the players were fooled by journalists, media and whole cutscenes trailers, making them never believe in pre-orders from Sony or any other company (horizon 2, baldur's gate 3 and cyberpunk 2077 are out of this league, subjective thinking, but we shall all see the difference, meaning that these games are already pre-ordered or would be on first day). I hope that Druckmann will try to play his game in 10 years after the first part and see what he had done to the franchise that was perfect in every sense and turned it into a total joke. No spoilers. Enjoy the life until you play tlou II. Expand

I'm only a few hours into this game so far, but I'm gripped. It would be a 10/10 if the UI wasn't a bit confusing and frustrating. I sometimes find it really hard to know how to beat zombies. The characters are believable and interesting and I'm very much enjoying it.

Read the Forbes article titled, “‘The Last Of Us Part 2’ Is Getting Predictably User Score Bombed On Metacritic”. This article points out that the 40,000 user reviews for TLoU2 on Metacritic is way more than the user reviews for even the top 3 MOST SOLD GAMES EVER, which includes GTA5, suggesting that people are tacking multiple bad reviews onto this game. It also points out that a lot of these reviews were made before people could have played through the entire thing (since it takes about 25 hours to play through) as the reviews were made shortly after release.

With all of that considered, this game is as close to a masterpiece as you can get. It not only lives up to the expectation that Naughty Dog sought but twists that prospect into something totally unexpected from the first game. Naughty Dog has once again delivered an enthralling, super detailed story with smooth gameplay and beautiful graphic design. TLoU is the only series that has ever impressed on my emotions, and this second installment is no exception. In fact, I'd say Part II affected me more than the first. Please play this game and give it a real user rating; I am confident this game is not worth the currently low rating of 4/10.

I have to say that this "nerd rage bomb" is disappointing. It must be the result of a generation that can't handle not getting a trophy for coming in last place. Life is complex, and there is just as much interesting drama and context to learn from while experiencing the low points. I used to be a person that would discount the critic reviews thinking they were biased by industry politics, and I would instead focus on the consumer scores believing that I could not be deceived by my nerd peers. Never again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I score it 1 for multiple reasons, spoiler warning for those that mind.

First of, the only good thing in this game and the only reason I gave at least a 1, the graphics and gameplay. The environment props are great as well as the general models and textures. The gameplay is well implemented and the overall controls are good, but not that much of an improvement to Part 1.

Now the things that make me rate this game low.

    Story:
I have 2 big problems with the story and storytelling
The story is kinda okay, but a huge disappointment if you expect anything like Part 1. Especially the immersion is really bad. Along with some questionable decisions, like killing the Main-Character of Part 1 with whom you played 90% of the time within the first 2 hours of a 25h+ game. Everybody knew he eventually would die, but not like this. I mean, come on, you can't just kill a fan favorite like this - every half-decent storywriter would do a better job. And no, flashbacks later in the game do not make it a less bad decision. Those almost do not matter to the player anymore because the character is already gone, so you should do it the other way around. Then you even have to play the character that has killed Joel for multiple hours, aw come on! And obviously the ending, in short: Ellie can't forgive Joel for saving her life, but she can forgive Abby for torturing and killing her father figure, shooting Tommy in the eye, killing Jesse and trying to kill Dina (her lover)? This is more than a questionable move and makes no sense at all!

    Game:
No multiplayer! I liked the multiplayer and also the concept of the MP in Part 1 a lot, I played it at least 200h+ and had lots of fun and frustration. An improved MP, fixing and balancing some stuff of Part 1, would have been a great addition.

    Non-game / outside factors:
The leaks and handling those - Druckmann denies the leaks are true and in the actual game, a lot of them are in fact true and in the game!
The controversy with the employee bonuses and how bad the crunch apparently was.
The way Sony and Naughty Dog abused the DMCA.

    Conclusion:
Overall a technically okay game, nothing special.
Graphics do not make a game like TLOU succeed, its the story - and the story here is written bad and does not give the player any sort of immersion.
No multiplayer at all, disappointing. Especially with bad storytelling like this.
Lot's of outside factors, all of them did not favor Naughty Dog or the TLOU at all. Rethink your PR.

I advise not to buy this game, this game nor the company does deserve your money. if you are interested in the story - watch some Streamer's playthrough.

Most of the criticism appears to be centered around the choices ND made on the story. Whether you personally wanted to the story to head in certain directions is very much up to personal preference, but you can't argue it's expertly done. I don't agree with every creative decision but the execution is second to none and a hell of ride for the 25 hours it takes to complete. To me this is the pinnacle of what video games can achieve as an art form compared with cinema, television and books. The best entertainment challenges the consumer, and that's exactly what ND have achieved with this game.

Fitting that ND have now capped two console generations with a masterpiece. Bring on TLOU3 in 7 years?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well here we go. To start? I am a huge fan of the first game (just personally a top favorite of mine) and this was much anticipated. Avoided the leaks and went in clear minded. With that said lets get into the nitty gritty. Spoilers will be discussed mostly in story and in the recap.

Gameplay-Really good when it picks up. The pacing really hurts the gameplay especially early on but when its rolling its not only tense its fun and incredibly addicting to play. While the jump button seems a bit forced and the dodge button seems mandatory for every single encounter? Its a bit of a downer but the gameplay makes up what is a lot of the rewarding aspects of this game.

Graphics- Naughty Dog needs to if they haven't already give those guys and gals working on the graphics a raise and attempt to retain them for life. These graphics are astounding, beautiful and just really give the game the feel it's trying to pull off. Moments when you play when the rain lets up? It's a gorgeous sight to see. When it's raining and the thunder hits? Amazing. Truly an accomplishment.

Accessibility Features- This is something that normally doesn't come up in games but the accessibility features while I didn't use much of them are great for gamers who need them. Its another thing you can tell Naughty Dog has focused on and they did an incredible job with it. A lot of kudos here for making sure tons of people can play the game no matter what life throws at them.

Story- So this is the last one and this is a bit long winded. The acting in this game? Is very impressive even with the poor dialogue at times and awkward moments. The story is a bit of a mess and I will leave out my disagreement for what decisions the studio made with the characters here for a moment. The flashbacks, time jumps and just the consistent going back and forth? It's messy and goes to another point. This game could have been probably cut by 25% and still told the story it was trying to accomplish. Abbys portion felt forced and her origins could have been revealed in an entirely different way. The story early on is very slow, Joel dies, you are forced to journey on and the game moves very slow at this point. The game by the time it really picks up with Ellie? You switch to Abby with your entire skill tree reset now to zero. The game also focuses a lot on what the cost of revenge is and what it can drive a normally good person to do. It attempts to switch the player to instead of feeling like you need to get revenge for Joel switches and tells you what Ellie was doing is wrong and she must be punished. As a player of the original which most people are who played this game? They aren't gonna feel that nor did I and that plays into my score for this game. This story could and should have been executed differently. The plot outline of this game makes a ton of sense the overall delivery is messy and does not always land. When it does land its a nice subtle tone and it is done really well. Those times it does land is not often enough.

Overall? This game is a bit of a disappointment as its really a cinematic game that focuses on the story pushing you through. The gameplay, graphics, soundtrack, acting is all done incredibly and should be really focused on here and applauded. The story is really unfortunately a mess and it impacts the overall experience of this game and Abby is really forced upon the player to be humanized and liked and it never hits home.

    Pros
    -Graphics
-Most of the gameplay after the first four hours
    -Acting
    -Accessibility features

    Cons
    -Disorganized and poor plot
-Forced characters that feel more like a sub-quest and not really apart of the game
-Longer than should be swan song to the original characters
-There is a lot of bugs in this game that need to be ironed out.

Im not giving this game a 0 nor am I giving it a 10. This game is not a 10. If I could? It would be a 6 on my pure disappointment but this is a 7. The game is good, its playable its just not what anyone was anticipating and was not worth the hype.

I am not a bot. I have completed the game and I will be replaying it. If I feel different I will update the score.

Первая часть Last Of Us на всегда останется в моей библиотеке игр! А это постараюсь забыть как страшный сон. Все выше сказанное это мое субьективное мнение.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me just say my piece and be on my way. A lot of people distaste this game only because they are comfortable with what they are familiar with—Joel and Ellie. Joel had countless sins to pay for, and he never thought to atone for them. What do you think the cost is for killing hundreds of people... for actually nothing? The original goal in TLOU1 was to get Ellie to where she needed to go. period. Yet so many people are upset with Ellie for killing people for “no reason” in TLOU2 without remembering Joel did the exact. Same. Thing. I read. I read a lot of other opinions because not only mine matters and it comes to show that there is always a price to pay when it comes to vengeance. Nothing comes for free, and both experiences that. While playing as Ellie, you see her take on this obsession, and lose herself throughout the gameplay. This is the most crisp version of character development I’ve ever seen. Even when choking people out, go back and listen to how both Ellie and Abby talks to them. ND didn’t put that in coincidently. Character development to some people is like going from bad to good, but it can always be reversed. This game does it’s justice by showing you antiparallel versions of character development. Abby *attempting* to atone for her sins, while Ellie deluges into them. It’s heartbreaking to know what happens to Joel and Ellie, don’t get me wrong. PLEASE don’t get me wrong. Joel had a parental side that I was at times jealous towards. The most loving parental figures in gaming. But it’s clear narrative of what happens when you have bloodlust. I didn’t know why we had to play as Abby until you put yourself in her world. A lot of TLOU fan base lacks empathy. Simple. If you didn’t you’d understand at least to an extent what Abby was feeling and what she did it for. And of course, she paid her price. She lost her friends, a safe place to stay, her status, and even the original love of her life (even though she already kind of lost him). She lost everything finding Joel. And Ellie? Oh man, if she stayed at the farm, karma could’ve had its way... no? By this, I mean, if Ellie would have stayed at the farm with Dina and JJ, Abby for a fact would have been dead. Dried up at the pillars. In a contrasting idea, Ellie got a hell of a short end of the stick. The loss of her ability to efficiently play the guitar?Trauma? PTSD? Of course, I think my own opinion has a flaw because how do you get over PTSD without any actual help? Ellie thought that the only way to get over this was to finish the job. Who am I to say she wouldn’t have been right? Hell, it might or might not’ve fixed her problems — but the fact of the matter still remains. Because of Ellie’s obsession towards Abby, even to the point of saying Abby's name as a mantra, it showed the path of destruction of not trusting the universe. Not believing Abby will get what she’ll get. Ellie ended up saving Abby’s life which is the complete opposite of the original job. By going back for Abby, she lost her family, and her primary comfort for remembering Joel...the guitar (which comes back prominently thru the game as a reminder). As said before, and I’ll say it again; the game shows two different points of vengeance. One of obsession (Ellie), and one of atonement(Abby). We HATE to see a familiar face to be the one of obsession, but not everything is all rainbows. People died because of them. Ellie chose to go after Abby AGAIN after being spared. That’s obsession. Clear as day. Abby chose to not fight Ellie until she had to because it was not. Her. Place. Abby chose to help those kids because she felt like she had to atone for something. Both Ellie and Abby had someone pregnant in their loves which is a sign of a new life. A new beginning. Ellie killed one... while Abby spared the other (but all thanks to Lev. Aka, Abby’s ATONEMENT. If not for Lev, Abby’s story would be much different. Lev is her alibi for change, and a need to right the wrong. Where is Ellie’s?).

And tommy? boy did he also have to pay. Not only did he become disabled, but he lost his whole wife. Who said no one paid? People that didn’t play a direct role (on either Ellie or Abby’s side) ended up dead or hurt/scarred. Those two made it more than about them. And that was their flaw. And this is why ignorance is bliss.

All in all, i like to try to apply these things into everyday life. Any source of literature, or entertainment has its ways to reaching to people. You guys really just think people make stuff for no reason? Without a ‘lesson’ to be learned or anything? Karma will get it’s peace. Vengeance will get you what you want, but it’ll get you as well. And finally,

Forgiveness takes time. And time heals all wounds.

Ah. The 'artificial review bombing' tactic. Ironic that those who are doing this claim the game has an agenda - when acting this way absolutely has an agenda.

Fans with exceptional character are going to have the enormous task of rising above their 'peers', refusing to meet the general ignorance with anger and instead endeavoring to help bring those people up and out of their miserable and toxic perspectives.

Unfortunately, I am just not good enough to be among them. When the idiots start throwing mud, I have to toss it right back at them.

So yeah, I went there and I'm going there. Time to throw some mud around.

I've got a review for all of you, and in keeping with the theme it may err on the side of being a little bit irrelevant with regard to the actual game (or maybe not...).

This game gets a 10/10, no contest - I cannot easily recall a commercial product that so efficiently helps you decide who to cut out of your life based on their opinion here. The upside is enormous!

Were you previously plagued with the responsibility of 'putting on a face' during gatherings with the bigot in the family that you are eternally ashamed of? No more! One negative LoU II review from them and you can finally, finally, abandon them for good!

Got a friend whose a total d--k? Is your spouse an ignorant a-----e? Are you locked into a mortgage and surrounded by xenophobic neighbors?

No problem! The LoU II! Toss them all on the garbage heap of life!

With your purchase and positive review of the LoU II, you have earned yourself a membership in the community 'with brain'. Do you want to network and meet with your peers that also 'have brain'? The LoU II has made this simple! This title comes with a free database of these people- Just search their positive review of the game! Now you're all set to host forums, set up virtual events (be safe everyone), and mingle with folks that don't make you want to throw up in your mouth or furiously wash yourself from fear of catching the stupid.

But wAiyT - were you, reader, not going post a positive review? You're going to post a negative review? And its not about the content in the game?? Oop, its time to switch gears here a little bit.

If you are posting a very negative review right now, understand this - it is obvious to ANY GAMER that when you post a review on the day during/after launch, you have not devoted sufficient time to have thoroughly played through and THOUGHT through a title of even average length.

If you are slamming the game right now, there is no mystery as to why you are doing it.

These are direct attacks on what some people are perceiving as the progressive perspectives in the story. You're not fooling anyone.

Another irony is that the concepts shouldn't even need to be called progressive - freedom in the way that individuals identify and in who they choose to care about without any fear of reproach should have been the universal and ubiquitous standard across all of our societies long ago. These concepts are only thought of as 'progressive' because we are so ass-backwards as a species that it takes massive effort simply to cross the finish line, late, to where we should have been ages ago.

So, after this fair disclosure, if you want to be one of THOSE folks, or at a minimum one of these trolls who due to an inability to develop a unique personality have to subscribe to the biggest bandwagon behavior of the times just to render themselves an irrelevant (and frankly, boring) member of the collective masses...

Thanks to the LoU II, you benefit!! Think about it - with your head so far up your own a--, you never have to deal with folks like me! You are now also a part of a community - those stellar people that author the negative reviews. Charmed, I'm sure.

What an amazing title: You get a landmark title and story that pushes the boundaries of how we think about gameplay and narrative in videogames...

And for absolutely f-----n' free, you can pick me out by my review and never have to deal with me (please take advantage of this fantastic deal).

Trust me, the feeling is mutual and the effort will be mutual.

    Thank you, LoU II !!!!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished the game on survivor difficulty. I’ll start with the things I liked about the game. First of all, it looks beautiful. I stopped multiple times throughout to take in the environment. Pretty amazed they got it to run at a near-constant 30fps. Secondly, I really enjoyed the flashbacks between Joel and Ellie; especially the in the museum. When Joel had Ellie put on a helmet and pretend to take off into space, it brought tears to my eyes. What a cool moment.

I also enjoyed some of the new additions to the game. Having dogs be able to track your scent was pretty cool. I had fun using the crossbow, and that basement hospital fight against that giant mutated infected (or Rat King, as it’s called) was pretty awesome.

Sadly, that’s pretty much where my enjoyment ends. I’m not even sure where to start. They did Joel a huge disservice in the way that he died. It is an insult to think that he would abandon all of his past survival skill, knowledge, experience, etc. and mosey on in to this unknown group’s location. How do you go from: ‘I’ve been on both sides’, ‘I’ve struggled for a long time with surviving’, and ‘Don’t trust anyone but yourself’ to: ‘Greetings random group! I will blindly put my faith in you and lower my guard! This is my brother Tommy, and I’m Joel! I killed a doctor that was working on a cure!’ It just doesn’t make sense.

That brings me to Abby. Holy crap, how unlikeable of a character can Naughty Dog make? You expect me to give a crap about this character at all? I love the feeble attempts ND makes to try so hard to get us to sympathize with her. Let’s see things from her P.O.V and look at her reaction to her dad’s death. Mmm, nope, sorry, don’t care. That ‘shock’ fell short by the way. It was super predictable that she was related to the doctor. Every time I was forced to play as her, it was a struggle to keep going. Why the HELL would you force me to play as Joel’s killer? That 10 hour+ ‘side quest’ culminating at the showdown between the WLF and Scars was awful. At no point did I ever want to play as Abby. And why do I care about some stupid power struggle between these two factions? It was incredibly boring. And to think that in the end, Ellie didn’t even get revenge. I understand the whole ‘act of mercy’ angle, and that Ellie told Joel at the end she was ready to try and forgive him, and that she thought of him when she chose not to drown Abby. But WTF. She escaped death how many times to hunt Abby down?! And then she was going to make peace with the fact that she had to let Abby live. But oh wait, she’s having PTSD because Abby is still alive, so she leaves Dina and JJ (whilst knowing that Dina won’t be there when Ellie gets back), so she tracks down Abby AGAIN. And then she’s like...NAH it’s fine, get out of here ya little rascal :) I felt very little satisfaction by the end of the game. Very disappointing.

And the relationships in this game. I love Ellie, but I didn’t give a crap about her relationship with Dina. The thing about Joel and Ellie’s relationship in the first game that made it so special? It happened organically, overtime, onscreen. They wanted nothing to do with each other at first. But you, the player, got to see their dynamic change gradually throughout the game, and it was interesting. But with Ellie and Dina, they’re just into each other like it’s something we already should’ve known about. The most backstory we get about them is from Ellie’s entries into her journal, which is a poor way to try and build character relationships. The same can be said for Abby and Owen. At no point was I interested in anything they were saying or doing with each other.

And some smaller grievances. It was really cool in the first game how when Joel pointed his gun, you heard his breathing get much louder, like he was scared and on edge. They got rid of that here which stunk. Also, it was cool at first how when upgrading your gun, they would show you making the addition, but that got old quickly, especially if I was trying to make multiple additions to the same gun. I just felt like I wanted a fast forward button the entire time.
I also wanted to talk about Tommy running off on his own to go find Abby after Joel died. Uh, why did he do that? Tommy knows Ellie. He knew that she wanted revenge just as badly. He clearly did not want any harm to come to her. Why did he not go with her? Wouldn’t that be the best way to ensure survival?

In conclusion: The original Last of Us is one of my favorite games. I can’t believe they dropped the ball so hard on Part 2. Abby is awful, unlikeable, and boring. The fact that I had to spend so much time playing as this character was terrible. I replayed 1 more than once at this point. I have 0 interested in ever replaying 2, because there’s so much of the game I would want to skip over. It’s so disheartening to see how bad this all turned out...

If you want a game that ruins all of the progress between Joel and Ellie this is for you. I was so so excited to play this game, Joel and Ellie built up they’re relationship in the first game and that was partly what was so good about it. The only reason it gets a 1 is because it had some nice graphics. We liked the last of us part one because of Joel and Ellie, who on earth thought it was a good idea to not have any dialogue between Joel and Ellie and then just kill him off in front of her, TO PRETTY MUCH START THE GAME?? it’s unbelievable that people thought this was the way to go about it. What a waste. This may as well been a completely different franchise. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It’s a humiliation towards Joel and the people who actually loved the first game. Gameplay in Ellie’s part is a big joke, and Ellie is also the joke itself. A girl, who dare kill so many humans and infectors at the age of 14 would forgive the person who slaughtered Joel in front of her face. A girl, who struggled to survive so hard would blame Joel for saving her life. Perhaps Naughty dog wants to tell us that Ellie actually doesn’t love Joel as much as Joel loves her. I’m pretty sure if it was Ellie who was killed, Joel would chase Abby to every corner of the world until tear her into pieces. Thanks for **** up my best gameplay memories Nile. It’s not worthy, my money, my time, my emotions, this game is just not worthy.

ps. I don’t give a **** wether a character is of some LGBTQ thing or not, I couldn’t care less. I feel sick for those lovely couple talk things because that ripped off all the adventures and the memories that were supposed to be shared between Joel and Ellie.

That's fine, however forcing it over and over and over instead of character development defeats the purpose when no one cares about the characters. What is inherently wrong with this story driven game is poor writing, character inconsistencies, and plot holes. Certain characters just do NOT behave like their previous selves from part 1. They do an awful job of introducing new characters, especially Abby. Could've had the audience get to know her more in order empathize with her instead of just forcing her on the audience with immediate hatred. It went from quite masterful writing in TLOU to downright amateur writing (think what happened to The Walking Dead in whatever season they're up to now but slightly worse than that even).

Gameplay: not much changed besides some new equipment, ability enhancements, prone/crawling. With all this time to develop this game the new enemies and enemy variation is severely lacking, combined with poor enemy A.I. and oftentimes laughably broken friendly A.I. (for better or worse) results in repetitive scenarios and the best part is you can often sprint passed an entire wave of enemies, get to a quicktime event door and somehow are impervious to death and just get pushed into the next checkpoint. Puzzles have been oddly all but wiped out from the previous game and the developers added nothing new to replace the lack of puzzles besides more walking simulator. The camera often gets stuck and obstructed near walls/corners and the animations quickly get repetitive.

Last but not least all these years to develop a game and no multiplayer included? The first game had a fun multiplayer I personally put many hours into and had my fun with. Makes it even more sad since they butchered the story so much their is no saving grace for this game.

This game is pure regression is every facet of the word. AVOID and save your money!

The story is the problem here. The ideas sound like they could be alright: Cycles of revenge are Bad, dealing with death of a loved one, actions have consequences, coming of age, etc. Lots of messages being sent here, which would be great if they were executed properly.

Look, if you want to give this game a chance and were a fan of the first, please see one of those cinematics-only videos on youtube to see if you can stand the story first. That way you can get most of the "experience" that was intended, as the game was basically an interactive movie when it was interactive at all. If you liked it, buy it.

But WTF. As much as I admire the character of Joel, I understand the decision to use his past against him in order to provide a motive for Ellie's revenge; just not the way he did. We as a fan base didn't deserve that, and Joel and Ellie did not deserve that as characters. I hated everyone in this game. They're all depressing. The world is grim. Joel's a cuck. His brother is the tough guy, who, btw, gets **** in this game. Joel forgets all his street cred. **** you Joel. He's nothing but a bully, no heart in this game. No depth. So uninteresting. The only GOOD part in the game, personally, was the flashback of Ellies birthday, around the same age that was from the first game. I'll admit it, I ****ing cried during that scene where she pretended to go to space. I felt so bad for Ellie. She's such a innocent character, she deserves so much more than what she ends up with.
