The Last of Us 2 has indeed Naughty Dog quality in terms of graphics, animation, world design, art, and sound. Gameplay has been tweaked and is more fun and aggressive than the last entry. Now, the negatives... to start slow we can talk about how the game has practically zero enemy variety so you will be shooting the same enemies for 25-30 hours. There are only 2 new infected, the shamblers and a pretty disgusting one that looks like it came out of Resident Evil. Now, the big bad wolf, the story... it´s bad. It´s not a revenge story because it doesn´t fulfill itself, it´s just pure hate. What made TLOU 1 great was Ellie and Joel. TLOU 2 ruins both characters by killing one and twisting another to something unrecognizable. Of all the new characters Jesse was the only salvageable. The story has brutality for brutality´s sake, so much in fact you become numb to it and don´t give a crap anymore. TLOU 2 talks about issues that have ZERO place in the apocalypse like gender identity issues and bigots. The ending was probably worse than Mass Effect 3.… Expand

I have played though the game completely and I love it better than the first one the story is great and I'm fine with them killing joel it makes the story of the first and second one more rich and the ending is great ellie deciding not to kill abby just because she killed joel is great because ellie knows it's not right even though abby killed joel but 10/10 planning on 100% completing it I highly recommend I think the reason why its has negative reviews is cause people are mad about joel but I recomend it to any last of us fan.     This game was the only thing I was looking forward to this year. I thought maybe this game would brighten this awful year. Instead it ruined this year even more. It was my only hope for 2020. I give it a 1 due to combat. So trash. So so so trash. Trash trash trash. I want my money back so that I can burn it instead.

Most of the negative reviews are saying the story is bad when I think people are just upset that the story didn't go the way they wanted or expected it to. I personally think the story is quite good more in the 7-8 range for me but everything else is great, the gameplay, graphics, customization, etc. the sand box is amazing. The gameplay is similar to The Last of Us 1, which is to be expected they took some of the same mechanics and improved upon them while also adding a few new things, feels like an appropriate sequel. Most negative reviews were put very soon after game release, when the game is 20 - 30 hours long, I think people were so angry that Joel died off in the first 1/10th of the game that they came here to rant about it.… Expand

    that was...weird, you guys just killed the whole story of the past game, the graphics and the gore was the deal of this game, but what really made us happy and lovers of the last of us, was definitely all the feelings that the past game gave to us... this game had such an huge potential, but just failed.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Even a Score of 90 Points must be a game who is perfect for everyone who like rpg shooters and equals or surpass in every aspect other games with this score. But "TLOU2" is not such a game.

    The grafics, the sound are okey, its a nice 85, but the gameplaymechanics are mostly the same as TLOU Part1, some are buffed, but not all. So it cant rise to a 90. But the gameplay is still fun and it works, so its a good 80 score but not a 90 or even a 95+.

    But than comes the sequel problem. It don't honor the first game with its story. It try to be diffrent but diffrent equals not useful. For me the story don't pull the right strings. The death of joel feels like a betrail, like Starwars 8, where luke throw away the lightsaber. The developer, who was in charge of the story, betrails me, i don't want such a boring death for this beloved character. And the worst part, its not even logical. Beause he was a lone wolf with cup, he never would do this action that cause his death.

    Next problem is the story itselfe. Its a boring story of revange. It would be far more better, if abby capture and torture joel. That you have multible endings like. All die, joel die, allie die and joel life, abby die or all will find a way to life with each other. Even the character abby would be fare more explainable with "i do this because i lost my father and have thîs **** happened to me".

    Conclusion... a nice game with 85 after all. But the story and the outdated mechanics cost 10 points, 5 points for not honor the fans who where betraied. Its a nice 70 game. Not more not les. Because a game with 95+ need to be memorable for decades. Even after the first mass effect i know who is shepard, who is tahli and liara. I remember joel and ellie... but abby. i will forget in weeks.

    In the end, not a bad game, but not a masterpiece. Like a witcher 3 or an masseffect.    … Expand

    This game is Amazing.!!! Beyond anything that I've ever played. Better than the first game. This story wow!!! Last of us is bigger than just Joel and Ellie.. I can see where they're going with this story. It's a whole universe like the walking dead. And abby story fit's in perfectly I love love this game and hopefully naughty dog makes a third one⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Of course I'm disappointed that they killed Joel in the first 2 hours of the game, and I don't like they try to make you feel why "Abby" did it and that you should be sorry for her. And they try to introduce us a lot of not needed female characters (god knows why). The story is not bad but really basic and predictable, it doesn't make sense that you don't feel sorry for the hundreds of people you killed but you do feel sorry for Abby and let her live, it just doesn't make sense. I was hoping for more character development with Jesse and Tommy, but they just died in one second with no regret (GIRLS AT POWEEEEER!!!!). It's a good game though, long and enjoyable. But not a 9.5 as the press said.… Expand

    It takes gameplay elements from the first game, adds some of Uncharted 4's flair and raises them both to a new level of realistic movement and combat.
    The motion capture, voice acting, audio and scripted action are exactly what you've come to expect from a Naughty Dog title.

    Graphics are up there with the best of this generation. Weather elements are particularly well done and really help realise the hostile atmosphere they were going for. Enemy's are highly detailed and this makes the combat even more brutal than the first game.

    The story seems to have divided opinion but on closer inspection, this is clearly salty gamers who haven't played the game, but read the spoilers and are trying to make their 0 star review seem realistic. On top of this you have the homo-phobic, trans-phobic community desperately trying to make this game fail for having a muscular woman and a gay woman as the playable characters.

    There is absolutely no same minded person who would play this and give it a 0, especially if as they say, the story is the only part they hated. Just like any sane fan of the first game knows Joel wasn't a hero. Even if you genuinely hated the story twists, the other aspects of the game would make it at least a 6/10. But that doesn't drag the score down enough - so 0 star reviews it is!

    My personal take on the story - I feel like the message would have worked better if Ellie had gone through with the killing.
    She'd still have lost her fingers and with it her last link to Joel - thus showing her that revenge won't change the past and she lost everything she still had chasing it.

    I also felt it was a genius twist to force us to pay as the antagonist. Seeing things from her perspective, learning about her own good and bad traits, and her motivation for wanting to find and murder Joel.
    We also see Abby once again rescued by a sworn enemy, but instead this time she vows to help them in any way possible. Clearly showing that her thirst for revenge has left her questioning her own moral choices and needing to redeem herself with a selfless act.

    This even caused some players to end up rooting for Abby by the end. Clearly not the terrible story line some try and pretend it is.    … Expand

Fighting is heavy, brutal and harsh - you can feel adrenaline with every bullet and every hit. Music and sounds are extremely climatic, graphics are absolutely next-gen and the faces haven’t been this real in any game I ever played. Characters are real, authentic and genuine. The general feeling of guilt and despair is there whatever you do. I would only like to spend slightly more time with Ellie. We’ve waited for so long to see her again and yet she wasn’t in the spotlight all that much. I guess it was more of a story about violence, hatred and revenge than about this poor girl. Sadly, if that’s the case, then I feel like the expectations set in the trailers and even some interviews with the crew were misplaced.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game gets my high praise for its beautiful visual and animation, stunning scenery and sound. I, however, find the story and its character development to be atrocious.

    This game did everything it could to destroy the characters we know and love from the first game. Characters we knew from the first game are dumb down and killed to keep the plot moving. For example, Tommy and Joel, veteran survivors of the apocalypse who had been on the run from pursuers, conveniently give away their identity to a group of strangers, thereby giving the game a convenient way to start its revenge plot. Joel is made out to be the villain for killing people and Abby's father. On the contrary, Abby is the true villain of the story. Joel, though flawed, had a justifiable reason to kill people - he did it to protect his daughter. Abby is a brute who only killed people for revenge. She did not hesitate to torture and kill Joel after he had saved her multiple times in past. It also is hinted that Abby killed anyone whose name was Joel. Basically, Abby is the scum of the earth. I honestly thought nothing would bring me more satisfaction than seeing Abby die at the hands of Ellie. I was wrong. The game not only robbed me of that joy and then spat in my face by making the villain, Abby, the new protagonist of the game for an extensive amount of time. No matter how the game tried to emotionally manipulate me into liking Abby (giving her a dog while making Ellie kill a dog), I find her to be the true villain of the game.

    Major character decisions in the story are laughably unreasonable. Besides what I just mentioned in the previous paragraph about Tommy and Joel, Abby spared Elli after she had witnessed Joel's death at Abby's hands and knowing full well Elli will seek revenge for his death. For some inexplicable reasons, Abby was later shocked that Ellie was hunting her down. In the final fight of the game, Ellie, going against all reasons, spared Abby, rendering the whole game pointless. So it seems only the villain of the game, Abby, gets what she want in this revenge plot.

    All these things from above lead me to the conclusion that Neil Druckmann is a talentless hack who has been riding on the success of the others. Furthermore, it is also likely that Neil Druckmann inserted himself in the game in various ways, One as Abby's henchman who spat on Joel's corpse and another as a doctor on an ID card who is 100% intellect and is part of the organization called New Dogs.    … Expand

Graphics, Performance and physics are Out of this world. The gameplay is sometimes repetitive, but I never expierenced Something with that much atmosphere.     Killing Joel in the first hour of the game, proves, that Naughty Dog doesn't care about what made their previous title to the Last of Us Part 2 so emotional and interesting. Don't get me wrong, this game is really great. I love the graphics, the realism, almost everything. But, like I said, if you pretty much start off your sequel to killing one of the most beloved characters that made the predecessor so great, then you are automatically doing something wrong.    … Expand

This game is damn great i dont understand why people give it so much **** Amazing graphics, great gameplay that is deffinitely a huge imporvement from the first game, a great story even though it has a weird ending. I personally think that the game handles a revenge story in a really unique way in letting you play as the "villian" and eventually it makes you question if Ellie is doing the right thing which makes the Abby sections so much more special. The game has great stealth mechanics (I personally love the inclusion of tall grass where you can hide), new puzzles that are miles better than the original's, and awesome gameplay sequences that remind me of the uncharted games. My only problem with the game would be the lack of character development with characters such as Jesse and Dina who rarely get any screentime and they only work to give character to Ellie. I also didn't love the california section because at first I thought it was kinda pointless but later you realize that its kinda the point and it all works in the end with the final Ellie and Abby showdown. Overall I really enjoyed my time with the game and I think that it really improves on the original game while giving the characters a different approach. I would give the game a 9/10.     Very close to perfection, but TLOU part I will always be a 10 for me, story-wise. This approach in part II was more nihilistic, which I did like, but there were some sections I didn't quite enjoy as the first part. Still, that ending and the philosophy, the psychology behind it shook me.

    This game builds upon the last in every way. If you are offended by the new lead character you perhaps need to get a grip. Amazing story, beautiful graphics, better movement and better fighting overall. This is so far one of the most amazing game I've ever enjoyed playing.

    Don't pay attention to what other people are saying. Just play it yourself and work out your own opinion. This game was always going to be divisive but for people to be actively hating on something just for "fun" is disgraceful. I liked it and will definitely be playing it again in the near future.

This game should be one of the best games of the PS4’s lifetime to ever release, unfortunately, it’s left me with lingering bitter taste for me to ponder on. While at many moments I will admit I do feel immersed into the game and I feel the character’s— be it Ellie or Abby— emotions and understand their convictions. This game tried and failed to compare the two characters of Joel, and strangely, Abby. Her relationship with the scars child Lev mimics that of the relationship and travels done in the first game as Joel and Ellie. Abby kills anyone in her way to take care of Lev and Yara, even in the end betraying her own people. At times you can almost see a semblance of remorse that she may feel, like when invading the scars’ island, but it is executed in an utterly terrible way. Abby even mimics Joel in the way her character plays gameplay wise, having a similar move set using her bare hands to pummel zombies, and being more stiff and rigid than Ellie, to even the return of shivs in gameplay albeit with a new slight twist. I very much so want to like this game which is why it leaves me with such a bitter conflicted feeling in the end as it simply doesn’t live up to the first entry in any meaningful way except for the improvements to the engine, graphics, and gameplay, although too little in terms of change in my opinion. I’d give this game a 3/10 simply because of the graphics, the fighting animations, and set pieces. It’s that golden pile of crap from American Dad, looks beautiful sure, but it’s still a pile of **** at the end of the day.… Expand
