    Keeping it short this is absolutely good as a game the gameplay is only affected by the rhythm it has the same issue of uncharted 4; there is plenty going on about how bad or good is the story but i like how you end up thinking if what the main characters and their Past decisions are good based on the perspective.     Lo mejor que he jugado nunca!! Las expresiones, el sonido.. la nieve... llevo 4 horas y estoy alucinando... la historia genial...así deberían ser todos los juegos

    Brilliant graphic, good music, decent game play. None of the good elements can compensate for the horrendous storytelling. Think I sort of get what those self-proclaimed artists at Naughty Dog wanted to tell, but they failed, miserably.

    I can hate her because the game has become uncompromising, tougher and ruthless. You crawl every story through yourself, think about each side of the conflict, understand and accept every choice, even if you don’t always    I've finished.

I can't believe that, after seven years, our beloved characters had their fates decided by what moved the plot better. This could have been a fantastic game. However, for as much as the graphics are amazing, plot is central to the story and it wasn't good. They should have stuck to Ellie and Joel all along.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you really enjoy games, like the first installment, which hold character building as a core element to it's narrative. You are going to HATE this game. Usually in a "sequel" built off of main characters, you keep typically expand upon what u already got to know and love about each main character, in this garbage. You instead have to face the fact that the company wanted to try something they thought was fresh. Which instead ends up being a complete slap in the face of the original intention. I went into this expecting to have to shocking moments, yes. But not completely killing off both main characters to try pushing some alt-narrative in order to try appealing to a larger fan bases while at the same time telling actual fans to go kick rocks is absurd. Who does that? Not even terrible C rated movies do your main ppl like that. While this on the other hands feels like the developers thought that ruining the legacy of both Ellie and Joel and making it some lame gender neutral twist as something the majority could relate to is beyond words. What kind of b.s PR do they have? Who is ever going to take them seriously again. Like idk about you but I was invested in Ellie and Joel after the first game. So why the F would they decide to end thier stories so abruptly and give no credence to thier potential arch. While now you HAVE to like Abby as she will end up being the next character in tlou 3. Yet no one actually liked her to begin with! Hell she's the c*** who killed joel in the first place, why would you make a game to follow her steps? Do you think The Lord of The Rings would of been the same if JRR Tolkien killed off Frodo, Aragon, and Gandalf in the begining of the 2nd film? Absolutely not! The Main characters you got to love in the 1st are what makes the rest. While yes adding some new ones can enhance the overall depth but you simply can't rely on a 3rd installment having nothing to do with the main characters but instead some PR b.s. that holds no depth or care to its audience or the story that was originally supposed to be told. Because if you wanted to created a zombie game with different characters, name it something else. F*** this game, and the next one. Save your money,. Also P.S character interactions in this game do not represent how real life is actually structured.

    3 out of 10 for ruining the whole reason why you played the 2nd in the first place.    … Expand

Like others I do have criticisms but this game was an amazing experience that I recommend for any PS4 owner who can handle some heavy themes and violence, it's rare that games will sit with me for days after I've finished it and make me think about alot of things but this one certainly did, this game will definitely captivate you & draw you into the world but the violence and themes will pretty much put you in constant feelings of despair and I mean that as a compliment because I would have hated this even more if it wasn't that type of experience due to the subject matter, there are some lighter moments in there and some Joel/Ellie time to mellow out the player and I enjoyed Dani/Ellie's interactions for the most part so I assure you it's not all doom and gloom, the game has a variety of emotions that it will put through like most other games wont, the way this game captivated me and drew me into the story definitely overcomes some of the critiques I have on certain parts of the game.

    There are a lot of nonsense reviews on here so I'll go into the fake criticisms and some of the legitimate one's.

    In terms of the nonsense one's, I'd say a good 90% of the 1 and 0 rates are made up of the below group of people, just ignore these reviews, 1 and 0's should be dedicated to the very worst of games, even if you don't like story of this, the way the game plays, looks and sounds is well above your usual terrible game.

    In terms of the 3 nonsense types of reviews:

    . People that believe the game is making a political message by having LGBT characters, just because these people don't exist in your bubble doesn't mean they don't exist at all and that it wouldn't be plausible to have these types of characters in this world, how this is taken as a political message is absolute trash just like you people are as human beings for having an issue with it, these people have not played the game and ironically are making a political statement themselves by hate rating it down for the reason's I've mentioned above.

    .People that have just read the leaked spoilers and are just annoyed the story isn't going the way they want it to, again they haven't played the game so the rating is nonsense.

    .XBOX and switch players targeting popular PS4 only games, these people do exist, again haven't not played the game so the 1's and 0's should be ignored.

    Onto the legitimate criticisms, some of which I agree with:

    The way ABBY was incorporated the game is definitely something I agree is mishandled, I understood Abby and her reasons for going after Joel are understandable but just because I can understand it, it doesn't mean she is a likable character and I'm not sure why they thought anyone would want to play as here for multiple hours especially considering when we jumped to Abby was at a completely key part of the game that had been built up for half the game and it kind of felt like this was something I had to get through to get back to where I wanted to go and video games shouldn't feel like chores, I had no issue seeing the other perspective because I felt it was key in what this game was trying to get across but I felt you could of just done the Abby play though in 45 minutes to an hour tops.

    Joel's death, I would agree it was slightly to early but I don't have an issue with them doing it, to tell this revenge story it had to be Joel, it wouldn't have worked with anyone else, in terms of how they did it, it was a little bit of a stretch to buy two pro's in Tommy and Joel easily trusting a brand new group and it was probably a bit to early in the story but it was something I could look past considering some of the quality of the rest of the game.

    In terms of what I loved about this game, the graphics are absolutely incredible and i'm not sure I think of a game that wowed me this much in that regard, I loved the original but I did have a few criticisms on the combat and AI system in that game but I felt they definitely improved it here and it plays/looks really nice, the expressions of the character/facial animation are fantastic and express what the characters are feeling really well.

    I think Ellies part of the story is great and was completely captivated by the ride she took the player on, in terms of Abby's side I did enjoy the Scar island part, mainly because of some of the great visuals and fight scenes when all hell breaks loose.

    Some of the little things like the sound design of some of the violence was a great touch, the stealth kills felt more personal when you had other enemies yelling out their names reminding you that your not just killing robots but actual people who have loved one's, the way some of the more gruesome scenes were done really well and did a great job of making the player uncomfortable, little things like this game me more engrossed in a story.    … Expand

What Ellie and other important story characters experience, you feel for yourself. Question: "what would I do?" For this Titanic work, my low bow. Naughty Dog, thank you for the masterpiece continuation of the masterpiece game. Infinite respect to you. The emotions that your story has given me are incomparable to anything else. The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part 2-this is the story that I will remember for the rest of my life. She learnt that from joel. I think joel died too cruelly. That’s why it doesnt make sense to let abby go. She was portayed a a psycho.     If you didn't enjoy the game, you simply are an average homophobic / male chauvinist.

    Excelente story, a lot of characters, more gore, better gameplay that its predecessor. When a character dies, dies, nothing of cliche deaths.

    The story with Abby is awesome, you can properly connect with the character and understhand she.

    10/10 masterpiece.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well first of all, they put together 2 stories of abby and ellie, my personal opinion thought this game was all about ellie and not half ellie half abby so, I was getting frustrated through abby’s gameplay.
    Then the end wasn’t what I expected, a lot of hype for the game and really, not that great.
    It’s good, you could play it, but, don’t get high expectatives in the story finale.

    Graphics 10/10 one of the best graphics Music 8/10 really the last of us 1 had a great soundtrack but the last of us 2 doesn’t have like a track that i would remember, only the singed songs

    Gameplay 9/10 it’s the same strange layout from the last of us 1 but they included new things like crawl, dodge and jump so, it’s cool and new/old weapons from the previous game

    After all, a cool game but not what every fan was expecting, still, give it a try. It’s worth it    … Expand

After 7 years we didnt deserve this story,yeah they're telling us perfectly what they want to tell us but this is not what we want to see not even close after 7 years we are getting super exited bcz we're gonna play our characters story but mister Druckman stealing that from us bcz he wants to tell us a hate "story" not what we dreaming in nights when we are sleeping not joel and ellies father and daughter story...and after all he kills our "father",favourite character joel thats pure disappointment but and we are playing with abby?! who kills joel!? And it 10 hours!     This game truly is something you have to play to understand. I was more than ready to give the game a 6 or 7, and was very mad at the ending, but once I let it all sink in I realized how good it was. My major problem is that it ruins the first game in ways, but that was pretty much inevitable. This game is a masterpiece

    Se notó desde los primeros avances que es un juego con muy buena producción, excelente contenido audiovisual, una experiencia en la jugabilidad increíble, en la narrativa, a pesar de ser algo que muchos decepcionó pienso que demuestra una realidad de lo voluble que puede ser humano.

    I loved it, the only issue i have with it is the gameplay, quite repetitive tbh, the story is amazing, it isn't what all of us expected, but that isn't bad, this isn't fanfiction, the story tries to be as real and crude as it can be, the characters we love aren't immune to danger, it's still a post-apocalyptic world, whining about it is quite childish. Abby was just annoying and the way they killed joel just made the game somehow empty. It was the dynamic duo of ellie and joel what made me the firdt game love. Not seeing this as game of the year. Wish they did the story diffrent even if they kill joel. It would be better if they gave him a death wich is proper for his character.     Great game! A real emotional rollercoaster. Great storytelling that helps the player see from multiple perspectives. The gameplay itself is very smooth & polished. The graphics are insanely realistic & help immerse you in the game.

    This game isn't good as I expected but it's still a good game to play, and it deserves a better user score.

    It literally picks up the witness from the first part and transforms it into a journey of revenge that few games, if not any, have managed to do in this way. Really and since they start playing with the second character, you realize your actions and the consequences of what he has done. Apart from the plot it has, the game is spectacular, and the soundtrack of Gustavo Santaolalla is sublime. It has made my hair stand on end several times and I feel like he played a real gem.    … Expand

    7 años después, al fin tenemos la 2ª parte de aquel The last of us que marcó toda una generación, y ésta ha llegado para no sólo hacer lo mismo, sino para cambiar la forma de contar historias en la industria del videojuego. The last of us II es la nueva maestra de Naughty dog, y me aventuraría a decir la obra maestra de la generación, con permiso de The Witcher 3, God of War, Red Dead7 años después, al fin tenemos la 2ª parte de aquel The last of us que marcó toda una generación, y ésta ha llegado para no sólo hacer lo mismo, sino para cambiar la forma de contar historias en la industria del videojuego. The last of us II es la nueva maestra de Naughty dog, y me aventuraría a decir la obra maestra de la generación, con permiso de The Witcher 3, God of War, Red Dead Redemption II y el futuro Cyberpunk 2077.
    Tenía las expectativas muy altas con este juego, al nivel de no haber querido ver casi ningún trailer ni gameplay porque no me hacía falta que me convencieran para tener claro que el día 1 iba a soltar la morterada que cuesta un videojuego. Y no es que haya igualado mis expectativas, sino que las ha superado, llegando a un nivel superior en lo narrativo, nunca antes visto en un videojuego.
    Yendo por partes, en lo técnico es casi perfecto, llevando al máximo la máquina de Sony, temiendo a veces por su vida cuando no sabía si lo que estaba escuchando en mi cuarto era el ventilador de PlayStation 4 o un reactor nuclear.
    El nivel de las expresiones faciales y animaciones son de next gen. Escenas totalmente reales gracias a esto. Pueden decir o transmitir sentimientos solo con las muecas de la cara. Detalles implementados como las físicas de los objetos que llevan al siguiente escalón a los videojuegos.
    La iluminación es de locos, con las llamas, el sol o la luz de una bengala atravesando árboles, motas de polvo, los mismos personajes o esporas, dejándote embobado con cada nivel que vas avanzando. Sin dejar atrás las texturas, de un nivel casi fotorrealista en charcos, barro, coches o cristales. Para mí se ha llegado al techo de esta generación, ha llevado al límite a la consola. Hace necesario un salto generacional.
    En lo sonoro es de 10 también, con una variedad de sonidos y detalles que hace obligatorio jugarlo con cascos.
    Narrativamente es donde el juego marca la diferencia con el resto y la razón por la que pienso que The last of us parte II va a marcar una época en los videojuegos, no sólo por su historia real y compleja, o por el desarrollo de algunos de sus personajes, sino por la forma de contarlo, llevarla a la jugabilidad, sin entrar en detalles para no hacer spoilers, y tocar temas tabús en la vida real de una forma muy natural sin importar lo que pueden llegar a pensar parte de los jugadores, con un sentido filosófico muy profundo, con partes del juego, sobre todo el final, que te hacen reflexionar durante horas, días, semanas, y más espacios de tiempo, porque pasarán años y se seguirá hablando de esta obra maestra.
    El sistema de combate es más y mejor que el de The last of us (2013), pero que se siente poderoso y divertido por lo reales que son las ejecuciones, el gunplay, las físicas de las muertes, los desmembramientos, los gritos de los enemigos al dañarse o la tensión que genera el jugarlo en sigilo o encontrarte situaciones de acción donde tienes que sacar la artillería por decreto y realizarlas de manera efectiva. Pocos videojuegos logran transmitir eso, sentir que estás matando de la forma más real posible en un videojuego y llegar a hacerte sentir incómodo.
    La exploración sigue la línea de juegos como Red Dead Redemption II, aunque con espacios mucho más cerrados al ser un juego lineal, en el sentido de eliminar información innecesaria del HUD, haciéndolo todo más natural, como hablando entre los personajes qué lugar se ha explorado o cual puede ser interesante para hacerlo, o marcándolo en un mapa real, eliminando todas esas mecánicas de marcación que le quitan todo el realismo e inmersión posible a un juego actual, cuando lo que busca es eso, sentir que esos personajes son personas reales, y no "muñecos" de un videojuego.
    El diseño de niveles es variado, con algunos abiertos, otros más cerrados, siempre con la opción de explorarlos o no, pero con un curro enorme siempre, ya sea por exploración o diversidad de opciones para superar los combates.
    En cuanto a la duración, me parece adecuada para lo que Naughty dog nos quiere contar, ya que en menos horas no habría sido posible que el jugador experimente todas las sensaciones y emociones que el juego transmite, teniendo en cuenta que siempre los escenarios secundarios son opcionales, a no ser que lo juegues en dificultad alta, ya que necesitarías buscar recursos.
    El ritmo del juego es similar al del primero, con encuentros de combate abundantes y secuencias de acción en las que no te da tiempo ni a pensar, pero compensándolo con momentos de relajación y pausa, con diálogos entre los personajes o momentos emotivos como el de las jirafas de The last of us I.
    La banda sonora me ha encantado, siguiendo la línea del 1º, con 4-5 temas memorables, aunque el tema principal de The last of us I me gustó más, pero Santaolalla ha vuelto a crear unas piezas acordes al mundo y a la historia pesimista con toques de esperanza que nos cuentan.

The story was super good imo one of the best stories in all games maybe god of war 2018 was better but it was good the gameplay everything was good and the graphics were oke (it is still a ps4 game).     I enjoy naughty dog games for the story/writing and the movie like experience. The writing was horrible, full of nonsensical characters and moments and overall plot. So that's half of why I enjoy these games. Graphics are great tho.

    I was a bit skepticical of this game. Due to the terrible user score. However I'm PLEASANTLY surprised in the quality of this new classic. Yes it makes some decisions that people don't like, that'll happen with everything. THIS GAME IS FANTASTIC please at least try it. You'll be surprised.

It's far from being a perfect game but even when it lacks logic and goes around what fans liked about the first one, the absolute perfect gameplay, storytelling, and profoundness that NaughtyDog is known for always comes through. I found myself slightly disappointed with a lot of twists in the story and gameplay decisions (playing as Abby for example), but the way the game surrounds you with emotion, dilemma, and outstanding level design really makes most of the problems I had with the story worth it. I had a tough time figuring out how I felt while playing the game, I wasn't sure if I was liking it or not, but when I saw the end credits and my reflection on the black background, I realized they've done it again. As polarizing as this game is, NaughtyDog reaffirms itself as the best Triple-A developer there is today. The Last of Us Part II goes beyond political and social statements. The vengeful, obsessive and immersive story alongside the best graphic and level design I've experienced in a long time, come together to deliver an all-time must play and so far, the game of the year.… Expand

The gameplay is also a ton of fun with the different weapons, items, stealth gameplay, movement, etc. As good as all of those things are I didn't love the story. I didn't hate the story but I do think it does drag on a bit at some points and I got annoyed at the number of flashbacks. If you ignore her killing Joel I actually like Abby and I think that playing through her story was a bit better than the revenge monster that Ellie turned into. After I finished the game I immediately deleted it but after having a few weeks off I'm thinking about installing it again just for the combat and gameplay which I guess says something.… Expand

The gameplay is good, and the graphic is amazing, but the true appeal comes from the story and the characters. I can understand how people felt betrayed by the early death of Joel and the bloody circle of violence this puts in action, but I guess this is not a game for everyone. The only two complaints I have are the AI of the companions (that sometimes gets in the way while you are trying to sneak around) and, maybe, a big of heavy handedness in including a transexual character in the game. I'm all about inclusiveness (and I did appreciate other trans characters in other games, like in dragon age Inquisition) but, in the case of Lev, I have the feeling that he could have been handled better.

    None of these things, anyway, make the experience any less enjoyable... even though "enjoyable" isn't really the best word to describe this game.    … Expand

A lot of people are showing hate to this game simply because they feel way too attached to characters from the first game. Especially considering that the game is set in a post apocalyptic world where people die at any moment in the most unexpected ways. It’s because of these angering yet realistic and haunting moments that make this game beautiful. People who couldn’t see this are stuck in fairy tales where main characters dance around a lilyfield. I thought naughty dog captured this dark, realistic post apocalyptic setting brilliantly. The new characters introduce a new dynamic to the game which tells stories of how morals have been changed amongst the new generation depicted by the “scars” (especially lev as we hear him question human behaviours which we deem normal which he either doesn’t believe, know or understand). Even I was slightly discouraged by the change in characters after playing Ellie, but the character development was done well enough that I was eventually absorbed by abbys story and forgot the emotions that Ellie’s side presented throughout her play through.… Expand

They destroyed the characters we loved from the first game and the new characters they introduced were not interesting at all. The story didn't make sense and the worst part is that they force you to play as Abby which is like torture after seeing what she did to Joel. The game tries so desperately to make you like Abby that it's hilarious, meanwhile Ellie is treated like a villain. The pacing of the story isn't good at all either. The gameplay is okay but I was expecting more improvements from the first game, it gets repetitive especially because the game is needlessly long. Super disappointed… Expand

I persisted all the way through, and all I can say is I will never do it again.

    Despite some graphical improvements, high fidelity voice acting and facial capture, I can't give this game a higher rating than 1/10 - because I simply did not enjoy the process. Triple A titles don't get high ratings just for having hollywood budgets.

    It is alarming to me that the entire professional review industry is compromised. I will never read another professional game review.

    The character arc, development and story are so bad, it ruined the entire experience for me.

    I'm not sure if I played a video game, or a new type of political propaganda masquerading as an interactive experience.    … Expand

I played the 1st game on PS3 for about 10 times and played the remastered version 5 times again and that's simply because it was a masterpiece that took others and me on an emotional journey that didn't need any politics or religions or agendas to shove on our faces. The 2nd didn't need to do that, too. Guess what? They did it anyway and threw all the dedicated fans who loved the characters no matter what their sexuality were. I loved the 1st game and loved the DLC (Left Behind). Story was part of the success as it was grey (not black or white) and people can relate to the decisions made during the game, but now we were supposed to see the death of the 1st game's protagonist early in the game and should go - as advertised - on a journey of revenge while playing almost half of the game as the one who killed him! I'm still shocked from the cheap shock value. Even I, a novice writer, could come with better story line and plot to justify his death and the way it was done. I could've come to peace with her if we played her through the game only to have her revenge at the end, but no. They wanted us to force ourselves to keep playing because we already paid 60 dollars for this **** story full of agendas instead of having a decent game. Joel who didn't stop for a guy who looked desperate in the 1st game, trusted a group of strangers with his name and got killed for it and we're supposed to believe that? Abby which I hated from the beginning and tries to kill as many times as possible because I knew they were trying to make us feel bad for her and they even forced a sex scene no asked for which made me hate her and the game more in what we can describe as the gayest straight sex ever done. There no justification for what ND did to the fans, not to mentions the delays the game got so they can manipulate us more with false advertisements and trailers which convinced me that Joel would be a big part in the game, only to find that he appears in flashback with his old look and as the trailers showed us and now I hear that stores refuse to accept returning the game. The trailers convinced us that Dina died and Ellie had to avenge her and then Joel follows her to help. They didn't even show din behind Ellie on the horse on the first day of Seattle. Shame on ND and shame above all on Sony who let them do this. I lost my respect to the studio I admired and considered the best in the last 2 generations of consoles. I gave the 2 just for the technique aspects. Amazing world and graphics, cinematography, music, and voice acting. **** story full of holes, bad insert of left politics and agendas and disrespecting a loved character because he's a man.     The gameplay is dated. This is a mediocre stealth game at best that would have been innovative 10 years ago and is now cliche at best. The animations are stunning but more often than not you're stuck in some luxurious animation while a clicker kills you from behind. It's boring.

    Not to get too long, but the story is not misplaced for this audience. A harrowing tale about revenge and all the miseries that go along with it might have worked great in a smaller title or with a different genre of gameplay. On one hand you're supposed to be learning about the horrible consequences of your actions, but then you're supposed to be having fun murdering people? It's bad juxtaposition.

    Lastly, the writing is sub par. While for a video game the topics are mature and well handled, the writing is unbelievable. The dialogue is forced and the relationships between the characters are worse than on the Big Bang Theory.

    All in all, this is not a fun game and it's not a worthy piece of art. It's a sub par, boring game that is trying desperately to be relevant when all it should be trying to be is fun.    … Expand

Honestly I don't see why all the hate, I played the game only having seeing the E3 trailers and playing the first game, I can understand why people wouldn't like the ending but for me it's the perfect ending, the gameplay is amazing, the graphics are phenomenal and the acting/voice acting is perfect. Yes, the story could be better but I like how they kill off characters and really like playing with both the "villain" and the "hero" which I don't this story really doesn't have. GOTY material for me at least… Expand

    Total and complete waste of money. Characters from the first game in no way act in a way they would be expected to act in the sequel, there is no payoff, and the writers clearly don't know what they're doing. This is the gaming version of Game of Thrones season 8.

They tried to make everyone that plays the game start hating Joel that when his death had come into the game nobody would mind, however due to the nature of the antagonist and how swiftly Joel was killed (and brutally) they make it impossible to think of the 2nd playable character Abby as an enjoyable time, instead it is a slog that drags on and on till near the end of the game, where the ending is neither great or interesting, a point to where I was lucky to buy the game at a low price 2nd hand, and yet I still feel like I had wasted my money.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is delightful and devastating game. It lands entirely differently once you play it. You cannot watch it or read it to feel what the game wants you to feel - it is a breathtaking work of interactive art.

    There are some challenging, divisive and risky-as-hell choices, no question. They won't work for everyone and its clear they are not supposed to. But,the craft and passion that went into creating this game is STAGGERING. The team deserves way more respect then they are getting. People worked to the bone to craft an experience like this. It does something that only a video game can do. Many people call the writing bad and disagree with the story that the creators wanted to tell. Totally fine, everyone has their own emotions and reactions.

    The ability to make us feel so intensely and really spend time in a world and its characters is powerful. After the climax fight scene with Ellie and Abby before the prologue, my hands were literally shaking, I couldn't sleep I was so awake and I was so conflicted. I didn't want either character to die. I went on a journey of hatred and revenge turning into empathy along with the characters.

    Naughty Dog knew exactly what they were doing. The intention and design is bold and clear.
    They could easily have made something everyone liked. They could have given people heroic,meaningful deaths and happy endings but that wouldn't be true to the world. They chose to tell a deeply upsetting, visceral and challenging story that is ultimately about how hard it is to experience empathy and breakthrough the haze of rage that is hate. It explores why forgiveness is so goddamn hard.

    This game makes you hate someone to depth of our soul and then challenges you to grapple with that feeling. It is intense. The game delights in quiet moments between humans and guts you with trauma and tragedy right after.It portrays women respectfully and LGBTQ relationships as mundane and normal. We don't exist in a vacuum, same-sex relationships are normal relationships and trans people exist- they experience tremendous discrimination and violence, the game accurately portrays this and does not dwell on it. The message is that we are not that different. Its not forced anymore than a straight relationship or white male protagonist is. I really enjoyed the relationships and characters - some are better than others and certain motivations are strange but they feel like real people.

    The creators of this game knew they were not creating a beloved story. They told a hard story for a dark time that underneath its bleakness and violence does tell a story of hope. Making people relate to these traumatized, battered and broken characters was not simple. By the end, I would argue that the Abby portion of the game is better than Ellie's and it gave me a real understanding of how Ellie is perceived by her enemies. This game has no heroes and no heroic deaths. I think a lot of the emotion in it is that people came into it treating Joel and Ellie like that. The version of our world that Last of Us portrays has none. Only people surviving and clinging to those close to them.

    There are tremendous parallels drawn between Joel, Ellie and Abby that build your ability to empathize. But, Abby is not Ellie. She is Joel. A broken person who has so much red in their ledger that they have been hardened to violence or remorse. The person isn't a sociopath but their bitter outlook is oppressive and catalyzed by the brutal murder of someone close to them. An act of forgiveness and empathy begets more. They slowly regain humanity and their life becomes about caring for a child who need love and protection. There are parallels to Ellie as well - Ellie kills Abby's closest friend due to revenge, Ellie kills a pregnant woman as Abby was going to kill Dina, neither of them have the context or understanding of what really happened. It doesn't matter that Ellie didn't intend to kill Mel or Owen even Alice. Both characters experience the rampage of other only by seeing the devastation. They do not empathize or care, it breeds intense hatred because all they see is their loved ones being brutally murdered. Abby and Lev are just as sympathetic and traumatized as Joel and Ellie. The is a bleak, harsh world - no one is a hero. People find hope in those closest to them.

    To not give this game credit for everything it achieves regardless of the story or writing means you are trying to hate it.The world, the moments, the feel, the time it takes with the characters. There are so many meticulously crafted elements working in tandem to elevate this experience to something more than a game, a story or just entertainment.

    Sure, many people didn't enjoy the choices the creators made. I didn't like everything either. I've been thinking about this game a lot since I played it though. This studio didn't pander and it used intense hatred to deliver a message of empathy.

    5 years I waited for 5 years to be delivered this steaming pile of hot garbage. The first game was excellent. So much so that I was nearly salivating waiting on this release. Now I got to play it and it was the most awful story I have ever played. Straight from intro to ending. Yep I gave it afair shot. And it was worthless. Anthem was better.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
