    I enjoyed it seriously, yeah most of u are probably pissed off at the "thing" at the beginning but giving it a bad review because of that its pretty... you know, becuz giving it a low score means its bad game which is not fair for the developers cause they worked hard on the game and you could see that they worked hard throught the little details in the game.

    This game is excellent. The gameplay, the graphics and yes the story will hurt you but a lot of thought was put into each detail. Many people are upset with the game and I understand their frustration. I was frustrated at first as well but I kept playing with an open mind and enjoyed the game. Part 2 may not be as good as the first game but it is still an excellent game none the less.

Although I don't like the premise of the game (Joel's death and the way it happens, so fast, brutal and a little disrespectful to the memory of the character and his fans) and the introduction of several new characters that we are forced to feeling empathetic, the story narrative proved to be good, although I had to force myself to continue playing after such an unexpected event. It shows the side and point of view of other people in that post-apocalyptic world.
    In spite of that, I felt that there was a lack of characterization of the known characters for this plot to work, unfortunately the facts that lead to the development of the script seemed a little artificial.
    Wonderful graphics and great gameplay, as in the first title. I missed the music as striking as the first game, but the sound effects are excellent.
    Personally, I would prefer that the title could become one of the biggest video game franchises in history, keeping the main characters alive and developing their destiny over time, not in the hurried way it was made.
    If you consider this game as a side story in the world of The Last of Us it would be a 10, for sure, but as a sequel to the first game, the score drops for the reasons described above.

    Apesar de não gostar da premissa do jogo (a morte de Joel e a maneira como ela acontece, tão rápido, brutal e um pouco desrespeitoso com a memória do personagem e de seus fãs) e da introdução de diversos personagens novos dos quais somos forçados a sentir empatia, a narrativa da história se mostrou boa, apesar de eu ter que me forçar a continuar jogando após o acontecimento tão inesperado. Mostra o lado e ponto de vista de outras pessoas naquele mundo pós-apocalíptico.
    Apesar disso, senti que houve descaracterização dos personagens conhecidos para que esse enredo funcionasse, infelizmente os fatos que levam ao desenrolar do roteiro me pareceram um pouco artificiais.
    Gráficos maravilhosos e gameplay ótima, como no primeiro título. Senti falta da música tão marcante quanto do primeiro jogo, mas os efeitos sonoros estão excelentes.
    Pessoalmente, preferiria que o título pudesse se tornar uma das maiores franquias dos vídeo-games da história, mantendo os personagens principais vivos e desenvolvendo seu destino com o tempo, não da forma apressada como foi feito.
    Se considerar esse jogo como uma história paralela no mundo do The Last of Us seria nota 10 com certeza, mas como uma sequência do primeiro jogo, a nota cai pelos motivos descritos acima.    … Expand

    The game is wonderful! Do not look at the rating! The gameplay is amazing the best visual ever see on PS4 deserves 10/10! Just the story a little worse than the first part was! I personally recommend this game.

Just make genuine characters and don’t sacrifice characters for political agendas like Disney has done with Star Wars and the original trilogy Star Wars and prequel trilogy Star Wars characters. This is pretty much The Last Jedi all over again. Smh. The way I rate out of 10 is, 5/10 is I don’t really like it or dislike it. 0/10 is the worst possible thing. 10/10 is the absolute best possible thing. This game gets a 2 from me. I really hate it, could even be 1/10. Accounting for gameplay I might would give it a 3/10, but because what matters most in a game like this is the story, it gets a 2/10 from me.… Expand

    Pode-se dividir o game em três fatores de análise: técnica, mecânicas e história.

    Quanto à parte técnica, os gráficos, animações e detalhes demonstram o enorme cuidado, capricho e atenção que a empresa teve ao desenvolver o game, tal qual fez a Rock Star com o Red Dead 2. Cada um no seu estilo, claro. Eles deram atenção a muitos detalhes, tipo quando vc entra por debaixo de uma bica    Pode-se dividir o game em três fatores de análise: técnica, mecânicas e história.

    Quanto à parte técnica, os gráficos, animações e detalhes demonstram o enorme cuidado, capricho e atenção que a empresa teve ao desenvolver o game, tal qual fez a Rock Star com o Red Dead 2. Cada um no seu estilo, claro. Eles deram atenção a muitos detalhes, tipo quando vc entra por debaixo de uma bica d'água e gera uma animação de reação da água sobre o corpo, ou quando vc se esconde debaixo de um carro e o inimigo te puxa pelas pernas, ou, ainda, quando vc acerta um tiro no inimigo e o sangue se pulveriza no ar e depois se mistura com a água. São muitos detalhes aos quais a empresa teve enorme atenção ao desenvolver.

    Na parte técnica ainda poderia incluir a parte sonora. Atirar no game é prazeroso. O barulho das armas, o grito de sofrimento dos inimigos, os passos dentro d'água são muito reais. A parte de soundtrack gostei bastante tbm, se casou bem com a proposta e enredo do jogo, mas ainda prefiro a do primeiro game.

    A estrutura das mecânicas do jogo são as do primeiro, mas com refinamentos e adições, como exemplo, a poder atirar deitado após ser atingido e cair ao chão.

    Quanto a história, de início, eu achei um tanto quanto infanto-juvenil, todavia eu entendi que o jogo queira passar uma sensação de novo normal, onde as pessoas seguiam suas vidas, mas com a presença de ameaças ainda por perto. O ponto X do game, que motiva todo o jogo, depois de muita reflexão, entendo que tenha sido ali o momento certo de ocorrer, da forma como ocorreu, sem pudor ou cerimônias. Ainda, posso afirmar, e quem zerou vai entender o que quero dizer, que achei a segunda parte do jogo mais atrativa que a primeira, com uma carga emocional mais latente. Na primeira parte alguns acontecimentos me fizeram pensar se eu realmente estava envolvido com o que o jogo me propôs. Mas isso é um detalhe que não tira o brilho do jogo na minha visão. Um ponto muito favorável fica pela forma como a trama se desenvolve e te possibilita ter outras perspectivas sobre os fatos narrados.

    Para finalizar, o fechamento do jogo foi digno de uma grande obra: surpreendeu, emocionou e fez refletir; sobretudo, corroborando vários acontecimentos do jogo.    … Expand

    An AMAZING game. The story was very interesting and was keeping me on the edge. The characters were amazing, including the new ones. It’s fresh to see something new and not as typical being brought to the table and overall I can say that TLOU Part 2 is a must-play due to its spectacular new story and gameplay. It definitely is one of the top games out there. I also wanted to say that IAn AMAZING game. The story was very interesting and was keeping me on the edge. The characters were amazing, including the new ones. It’s fresh to see something new and not as typical being brought to the table and overall I can say that TLOU Part 2 is a must-play due to its spectacular new story and gameplay. It definitely is one of the top games out there. I also wanted to say that I played the game and this is my 100% genuine review, unlike some of these here.… Expand

    - Presentation and music were stellar
    - I liked Abby more than I thought, I will go so far and say she is a good character. I can’t blame her for being pissed at Joel. She also was kind and funny.
    - Gameplay is the best naughty dog has made. Not a big evolution, but I think they’ve reached the pinnacle of this type of gameplay
    - the Ellie segments when she was alone were well done in terms of mystery, tone, pacing, and story
    - Rat king fight was great
    - The segment when Ellie first gets to Seattle and it’s open exploration. That was **** cool.
    - the final resort area with Ellie I had had a lot of fun with actually

    Cons:
    - The supporting cast was awful. The scar siblings were so boring and I honestly hated their entire storyline. Dina and Jesse just couldn’t match the banter Ellie and Joel had in the first game. They were not that developed, thus I didn’t really care for them. Abby’s friends suffered a similar fate of just being underdeveloped. I didn’t really care for them at all.
    - Abby’s storyline just felt like a lot of padding. Abby was a good character imo and I understood her motivations, but it just felt we were dancing around the bush in her storyline just waiting for Ellie to show up. The scar siblings storyline took up the majority of her story and it was just an average rescue story involving characters I thought were bad
    - Revenge being the theme of the story. It was fine, but I didn’t find it mind blowing or anything like that. It really lets you know revenge is bad at every corner for better or worse. After I got over the initial shock of playing Abby, I didn’t think the change up in the story was that impactful. It felt like two games in one. IT SHOULD BE STATED I was spoiled so bad so maybe that initial impact was ruined for me. Honestly it might have been a good thing because I might have dropped it if I played it blind. I was able to accept that I was going to play Abby for so long before playing that I accepted her quicker than I probably would have. So the story and it’s themes were decent, but not groundbreaking like the first game where it developed the bond between Joel and Ellie so well and it showed what people will do for love. That’s hard to top man.
    - Final con is what I alluded to before: the chemistry between the characters is just ok. The dialog and banter between Joel and Ellie was so strong, so coming into this game I actually preferred it when the lead characters were alone because I just thought the dynamic between the other characters were weak.

    In terms of the structure of the game, it’s hard to say how it would be improved. I think I would have preferred if we had a journey with Abby from the start to kill Joel. We find him and kill him and then we switch to Ellie before and then go on a journey to kill Abby. That way I would have cared maybe a bit more about Abby's friends and all that. But I understand they wanted to make it dramatic when the switch happened so idk.

    Overall, I’d say it was a good game, but not a great game. I’d give it a solid 7/10. I enjoyed my time with it and don’t regret playing, but there was a lot a lot of things that were disappointing and flawed.    … Expand

    everything is great except: some sad story parts should've been better, also the companion AI is frustrating sometimes like pushing me from my cover, political gender and religious agenda felt forced, some technical issues like form drops and rendering fails.

Whilst I understand much of the criticism of the game from others, I'm giving it a high score because it's still one of the best games on PS4 and even though not all the experimentation with the game structure/plot etc worked perfectly, Naughty Dog were willing to actually experiment! Not to mention all the progressive and accessibility features. It's a gaming milestone.
    After finishing the story I was still thinking about the game days later and I'm now enjoying New Game + (the collectables were enjoyable to attempt on my own but missed some).
    It's a very engaging game and a worthwhile experience. Even if it doesn't leave you feeling the same way you felt about the first game.
    There are some truly great moments and surprises. I felt like I’d played through an epic season like Game of Thrones or something.
    I'm hoping part 3 is a redemption story with a more positive ending to tie up a trilogy. That would give this game more meaning.
    I was expecting the ending would be that Ellie found Abby had been bit while enslaved and left to die, but when Ellie discovered her, she would notice Abby was showing signs of immunity and would then reconsider her intended actions, leaving some sort of open ending and making me feel like there was a better reason we played over half the game as Abby (other than the interesting but controversial angle this approach resulted in).
    In summary, it’s an amazing but controversial game and I’m so glad Naughty Dog took a new and risky approach rather than just delivering “what sells”.    … Expand

For days after beating it, I've felt the same emotions I've felt after a bad breakup or after a funeral. I'm not being hyperbolic, this is the most devastating piece of art I've ever experienced. I don't know if I hate it, I don't know if I love it. All I know is I've never had this strong of an emotional reaction to any game, any movie, any album, or any book. As a huge fan of storytelling in general, I think this is extremely risky, bold, and challenging. As a Last of Us fan, I feel attacked and brutalized. If the theme of the first game is "Not being able to let go", then this game is the complete opposite. This story is asking us to let go OF The Last of Us, as it asks Ellie to let go.

    This isn't the game I wanted, but honestly, it isn't anything I ever could have been prepared for. I think after a long, long time, this could either be one of my all time favorite games, or hell, maybe even a least favorite. I don't know. I just hope that people who REALLY are hating this, try to look at it from more than just one angle, which is the whole point of this story. I'm not asking you to like it or love it, but try to understand what the game is trying to do, at the very least.    … Expand

    I'm so disappointed of this game... waited 5 years for this and honestly is far behind of what I expected. I rate the game 5/10 because of the graphics that are insane, amazing job on that area and the gameplay that is quite good.     Considering all the topics that were not totally developed on the previous game, this sequel gave me a bittersweet sensation at plot and history levels.

    The game makes some bolt decisions in its storytelling witch clearly has divided its fan-base. The game has a emotional on the player, very much so if you have played the first game. I'm on the fence on some the the directions the game takes but the overall game-play has never been better and the animations in and out of fight-scenes are the best that i have ever seen.     El juego no es malo, pero el problema que tiene TLOU 2 es sobre su historia, el problema de la historia es que esta mal hecha, ya que deja varios huecos argumentales y momentos innecesarios por ejemplo la parte que tienes que jugar con abby, si soy sincero esa parte me parecio la mas aburrida, lo otro negativo es que en el juego se te presentan tantos personajes que no alcanzas aEl juego no es malo, pero el problema que tiene TLOU 2 es sobre su historia, el problema de la historia es que esta mal hecha, ya que deja varios huecos argumentales y momentos innecesarios por ejemplo la parte que tienes que jugar con abby, si soy sincero esa parte me parecio la mas aburrida, lo otro negativo es que en el juego se te presentan tantos personajes que no alcanzas a encariñarte con algunos.

    Lo positivo de TLOU 2 son su gameplay para mi su gamelplay es de los mejores que he probado yactmabien es divertido, tam bien hay que mencionar los detalles, me sorprende que el equipo de naughty dog se haya preocupado por hasta el mas minimo detalles, en todo eso felicito al equipo de naugty dog. Y lo ultimo es la banda sobora, debo decir que Gustavo sataolaya hizo un gran trabajo en la banda musical.

    Vuelvo a repetir el juego no es malo, pero tampoco es una obra maestra, mas bien TLOU 2 pasa sin pena ni gloria, te puede gustar o lo puedes odiar, pero como dijo George. R. R. Martin una obra es mejor ser odiada o amada, que ser ignorada por los demas.     Eh esperado 5 años para este gran momento y jugar a una nueva obra maestra llamada The Last Of Us Parte 2 y solo debo decir que el juego a sobrepasado todas mis expectativas y la espera a valido a la pena. Tengo muchas cosas que decir del juego por que me a parecido una obra maestra inolvidable y cada vez que vuelvo a jugar disfruto cada centímetro del juego. Los personajes principales yEh esperado 5 años para este gran momento y jugar a una nueva obra maestra llamada The Last Of Us Parte 2 y solo debo decir que el juego a sobrepasado todas mis expectativas y la espera a valido a la pena. Tengo muchas cosas que decir del juego por que me a parecido una obra maestra inolvidable y cada vez que vuelvo a jugar disfruto cada centímetro del juego. Los personajes principales y secundarios están a la altura el universo del juego y losa peligros que conlleva son de 10, jugabilidad de 10, gráficos de 10, sonido de 10 y lo que mas me gusto fue la historia y es de 10.

    The Last of Us Parte 2 para mi es superior a la primera parte en todo y The Last Of Us Parte 2 lo considero una obra maestra y cuando finalice el juego lo primero que pensé es en aplaudir.

After having finished it I can say that it is a great game at all levels (gameplay, graphics, mechanics, sound and, YES, history too), but I admit that personally I prefer the story of the first one. The story of this second part is more complex in what you want to transmit and how it is transmitted, but the one in the first one seemed more interesting and original to me. The objective of the story of this second part is, basically, that we also feel empathy for Addy, since what Joel did is unforgivable (everyone knows what I am talking about) and sooner or later he would suffer the repercussions of it. Joel was my favorite character from the first game, but it would be illogical to say that he was a good person for everything he had done in his past, just like Abby, but it is obvious that she had more justifications for doing everything she did in this second part. Precisely, that is one of the messages of the game: it may be that in this world there are no good people or heroes. I guess this second part was not well received by everyone because I think they hoped that Joel would redeem himself in some way for having probably condemned all of humanity by leaving her without the cure of everything that is happening and that was practically impossible, since that not even Ellie did not know if she was going to forgive him or not (although that is clarified in the end). I hope that this game later will be valued for what it really is: a great game.

    The story is crude on purpose, it is a tense and complex game that, more than a simple simple story, tries to leave messages. The most relevant thing is to understand the ending and few people I've read have understood it: leaving Abby alive in the ending, that fact marks that Ellie forgave Joel.

Мое прохождение заняло 35 часов, если бы я эту игру быстро пробегал на минимальном уровне сложности, я бы ее возненавидел, она слишком долгая (говорю по опыту с первыми тремя не такими большими играми серии Uncharted). Проходить игру на YouTube или пробегать лишь бы увидеть финальные титры, а потом бежать на Metacritic- кощунство.
    Я получал нереальное удовольствие от атмосферы, геймплея, саундтрека, и конечно же сюжета (к нему вернемся позже), который подарил много эмоций. Каждый бой приносил удовольствие от его детальной проработки и напряжения, которое создает игра. Глобально геймплей не изменился, но из-за новых механик, больших и вертикальных локаций, ощущается превосходно и дарит много интересных ситуаций. Вообще это, наверное, самая жестокая и откровенная игра на данный момент. В игре много жестоких моментов и насилия, от многих даже перекашивает, настолько хорошо. Так, что заявления разработчиков о насилии полностью оправданы.
    Теперь к важной части – сюжету. Основной сюжет стартует после убийства Джоэла. Тут претензия только в том, что старый Джоэл только появляется и почти стразу погибает. Не совсем было понятно кого мы теряем, за 5 лет персонаж изменился. Было бы неплохо, если бы показали утро Джоэла, как они патрулировали с Томми и как нарвались на Эбби. Да, игра была бы еще больше, но, с другой стороны, эту ситуацию исправляют флешбэки, правда ближе к концу игры.
    Элии порой сложно понять, за нее приходится делать вещи, которые делать не особо хочется. Она одержима! Впрочем, в этом и смысл, так что в этом нет ничего плохого. К концу игры мы сильнее понимаем её мотивацию, хоть и не хочется принимать её позицию. Элли заплатила огромную цену за то, что уже не исправить. Никакая природа, вирус или ещё что-то не убивает человека во всех смыслах так, как это делает сам человек. И умение прощать- некий лучик надежды на то, что в Элии осталась человечность.
    Я не знаю какой психологический барьер мешал людям полюбить Эбби. Мне она понравилась, как и желание сценариста показать другую сторону конфликта.
    Мне игра очень понравилась, она подарила кучу эмоций. Слабее ли сюжет, чем в первой части? И да и нет. Качество сюжета в первой части задало высокую планку. Но вторая часть подарила гораздо больше эмоций и впечатлений. Игра достаточно индивидуальна. Игрок может в нее влюбиться или наоборот возненавидеть. Но она ни как не заслуживает такого говна, которое на нее льется. Говорю Naughty Dog спасибо и желаю им ни в коем случае не опускать руки и удачи в их следующем проекте.
    И да мне конечно же мне лично заплатил Нил Дракманн, чтобы я купил его игру и поставил ей высокую оценку.

    It is a spectacular game, impresses in technical matters and script.
    As for the sound, it is the strongest point of the game for me, all the sound elements are very well placed and mixed.

I felt the beginning felt rushed to me, but I don't think it's too bad. Just a few coincident that could be annoying to some. I don't think some players are mature enough for something different, thought provoking, gritty and brutally real.

    The game play didn't change much, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as I love the tense stealth scenes and especially when there's dozens of enemies to beat. But the story was just a back and forth revenge tale that didn't go any where and left me frustrated with the lack of choices. Maybe there's a setup for the Last of Us 3 but for the money I paid I hoped for a better overarching story.

    The game is still utterly incredible, no matter what other users seem to think. As such, I will focus on the flaws that I found. The level design is too linear, making backtracking impossible even when all that would be required is walking back up a somewhat slippery hill. It is very easy to get lost searching for supplies and collectibles while losing track of where you have and have not searched, simply because the environments are so chaotic and the items so easily missable. I played the game as thoroughly as possible, and still missed a ton of collectibles—often due to being unaware that jumping over a certain ledge would lead to story progression and irreversible progression. The game could definitely be more open, and after all that time in development I am fairly disappointed that it is not. Only in the beginning is there any semblance of a somewhat “open” world. But that soon faded through linearly—although perfectly—tailored segments and environments built around encounters, as well as travel between encounters. This sucks because the world seems to have so much potential for intuitive traversal. Finally, this is a great game despite a seemingly shallow story over revenge and PTSD. Most people will feel this to be a worthwhile experience, albeit an incredibly unsatisfying one. This is by design, it is meant to be controversial and—probably—series-ending. I cannot see how a sequel, with the same characters, would be possible after this. As stated early on, this is meant to be an unpleasant experience during what is—for many people—a very unpleasant time. Do not play this if you currently are not in a good headspace.    … Expand

A continuação do primeiro que por si, já era uma obra de arte, era muito aguardada desde o anúncio da existência de sua criação. Passaram-se 3 anos e meio até que tivemos ele em mãos e, meus amigos, eis que a decepção foi gigante. A morte de um dos (ou até mesmo "do") personagem principal deixou a história chata. Inicia-se uma história de vingança que aos poucos vai perdendo sua vontade e acaba que faz o jogador passar horas pra nada. A personagem principal tem seus motivos, mas deixa a história com um gosto de "sacrifício à toa". As belas frases "faça cada tiro valer a pena" e principalmente "não pode ser em vão", são jogadas na lata do lixo com essa continuação. Naughty Dog tinha um tesouro precioso em suas mãos, onde tinha inúmeras outras coisas bacanas, mas optou pelo arriscado e divisório. Sim, pelo menos pra mim, o Joel e sua relação com a Ellie é que davam a "graça" do jogo. Só que essa "graça" foi jogada fora com cerca de 4 horas de jogo. O restante da narrativa é chato, o fato de estarem num mundo pós apocalíptico é deixado de lado e os infectados viram meros coadjuvantes num jogo sobre uma personagem que, embora tenha suas razões pra fazer o que fez, não tinha a necessidade de ser incluída. Inserindo personagens assim, a Naughty Dog pode fazer um jogo "infinito" (onde personagens são descartáveis e a cada edição do jogo, conta-se uma história diferente). Pra não dizer que tudo no jogo é ruim e até justificar minha nota 5, temos gráficos espetaculares que me deixou de queixo caído, tanto pelo gráfico em si, quanto pelas expressões faciais dos bonecos. Outro ponto em que a Sony capricha é em sua localização. As vozes e emoções foram muito bem repassadas em sua versão brasileira, digna de aplausos. Gameplay foi evoluída em relação ao primeiro jogo e continua bastante agradável.     The gameplay is ok. The story sucks balls. Instead of continuing the awesome plot of the first one, Niel **** tries to be bold by referencing today's social issues such as trans and gay. I wanted to see more about how Ellie's immunity to the virus would play out. But, I got nothing. Remember kids, REVENGE IS BAD!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, there are two reasons why i give this game a 2 instead of a zero and those are:

    - Performance of the voice actors
    -The beautiful looking game that the team created.

    Those people deserve praise, but this is all i can give because that's not the whole game, sadly.

    Now to the parts that i especially hate, because if i would talk about everything, 5000 characters wouldn't be enough in a game that has bad enough writing to rival Game of Throne season 8.

    - The Last of Us Part 2 Joel. This is not the character we were introduced to in the first game. Don't even try to explain it to me how Joel would ever fall into a trap so easily, and then (even though he knows he is a wanted man) announce his name in front of unknown armed people who heavily outnumber him in a sitation where he can't escape. The real Joel, that was written by competent writers, would've never died in such a disgraceful way. He would've died after tricking everyone in that room and after making sure that Ellie is safe.

    - Ellie. She hunts down all of Abby's friends and brutally murders all of them, even the ones who saved her in that situation where Joel died, which is can understand and accept. Then she proceeds to beat up Abby even though she loses 2 of her fingers (i will talk about that later) and almost drown her, where she suddenly has a flashback about Joel, where he talks about how he would kill everyone in that hospital all over again for her... and that's somehow a reason for her to let Abby go and live happily ever after. No comment, really, it's stupid. Revenge is bad, but somehow Abby got to have her revenge and just leave. Oh, and she is now gay for the sake of having gay characters in the game.

    - Abby. I don't care about her. Joel killed his dad, wow, very interesting, i'm sure 100% of the people in a zombie apocalypse has a worse story than that. Then we get to watch AND play her while she beats the crap out of everyone we love... It made me feel sick.

    - Ending. So... Abby gets to leave after killing Joel, Ellie gets crippled for no reason other than making us try to play on the guitar and realize that she can't anymore AFTER she realize that Dina left her because she went to kill Abby... but she didn't even do that so Dina left her for no reason... Tommy gets crippled as well, his girlfriend leaves him and the last thing he knows is that Allie don't want to avenge Joel anymore, he has no more appearance in the game after that... So in the very end Ellie leaves the guitar because she can't play on it anymore, she loses the only thing that could remind her of Joel and then she leaves the house to go somewhere, we don't know where because that's where the game ends. I can appreciate an ending where they give us the possbility to think about what happened afterwards, but i don't want to think about it. What's next? Ellie finds everyone and tells them how she got crippled in order to not avenge Joel?

    Absolutely terrible writing, it makes me want to cry after playing such a wonderful game like the first Last of Us.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before I start this review, I want to say that I did not look at the leaks. I went in without any prior knowledge of the story. I really wanted to like this game as I loved The last of us Remastered on the PS4 but I couldn’t deny that the characters and story narrative was poorly executed in the Last of us Part 2.

    First the good aspects of the game, the gameplay is more of the first game but with new characters, weapons and abilities. I found exploring the city of Seattle fun and exciting. The level design is very well thought out throughout the game and the environments are stunning and unique. I cannot fault the character models as they look movie like. The enemy AI is quite smart as they will flank you often and based upon your current supplies and weapons you can change how you approach a situation for example you could use a brick or bottle to lure zombies to other enemies. The game encourages stealthy gameplay as using weapons will diminish your limited resources. I like this as it helps to build the idea of a post-apocalyptic world where supplies are diminished and humanity it on its last legs. I personally only ran into one bug while playing the game where Ellie clipped through the ground inside a river.

    Where the game falls short is in the narrative. I think that Joel’s death could have been set up better. In addition to this, the story gets worse after his death. It devolves into a revenge story where the end will leave you disappointed. The pacing feels off as there is flashbacks within flashbacks I got confused some way into the story. Now the characters which have been a source of controversy I would like to first say that I have no issue with more diverse representation in video games as long as it fits the narrative of the game world and if the characters are built up. An example of this is Abby’s physical build, which feels off in the context of the story, as it is not shown how she develops this build aside from a gym in the game that we never see her in. A lot of the characters feel shoehorned in and very plastic and not memorable. I feel that there should have been more character development especially with Ellie and Dina’s relationship and Owens and Abby’s relationship as it feels forced and awkward.

    You spend the second half of the game playing as Abbie who is the main antagonist throughout Ellie’s story. The game tries to make you sympathise with her character and fails. I cared more about Ellie’s story and I wanted to play as her. Another character that does not make sense is Mel she is pregnant, but she gets involved in combat throughout the game where she should be at base as the survival of humanity is very important in this world.

    Overall, the gameplay is fun, rewarding and tense in places but the game falls short on the poor narrative and characters.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I managed to get into the game unspoiled. And with the outcry after the leaks I suspected that Joel or Ellie gonna die at the end.

    The first moments and flashbacks of Ellie and Joel made me tear up. I have waited so long to see more of them and it was wonderful to see them together and play through their memory sequences. It warmed my heart.

    The little bit of hope that we might get more of a Ellie and Joel adventure through the whole game were crushed when we had to witness Joel's brutal death.

    Sure Abby was driven by revenge but the brutality was what made me wonder what Joel must have done to deserve that. I was really curious to find out what terrible thing he did.
    But later we learn that he killed Abby's father. Joel did not beat him to a pulp nor tortured him, he just shot him. So it felt unnecessary to kill Joel like this, I guess they did it to give Ellie (and make the player feel) the kind of anger, hate and revenge seeking that leads Ellie to a very dark place in the end.

    The gameplay is great, the environment is beautiful and sometimes creepy, the infected are more scary and I was very often stressed (in a good way) by all the run-for-your-life situations when you got chased by a horde.

    I enjoyed Ellie's gameplay most of the time. I cared for Ellie. And I hoped that she will get revenge and find piece. But I also hoped that we would get more than the usual protag kills antagonist at the end.

    And when the game switched from Ellie's POV to Abby's and we started to play as Abby I was at first not interested to play through her part. I usually dislike it a lot when I'm forced to play as someone else instead of the protag. But the longer I played with Abby the more I started to like her. And care for her.

    You get to play as her for a good while and learn about the fight her group, the WLF has with another group called the scars (seraphites).

    After an incident she groups up with two young teens from the Seraphites after they saved her life. The siblings (Yara and Lev) are outcasts and first they are just working together to get out of a life-threatening situation and they part ways after making it out alive. But after leaving the kids, later Abby can't get them out of her head and she goes back to check on them. This is were I started to like her more n more. She turns from a bad to a god person, and puts her own life and place in the WLF into jeopardy to make sure the kids are safe.

    The game manages to make you see both, Ellie's and Abby's side of opinion and the further the story went I started to side with Abby more n more.

    And here starts where I began to dislike parts of how they went on.

    Ellie's path to the dark side makes her unlikable, she was almost killed by Abby but Abby spared hers and Dina's life due to Lev asking her to stop.
    The game skips to a year later and we see Ellie has a wonderful life with her girlfriend in a remote farm house.

    It's the kids that help Abby become a better person and after having lost every single one of her friends except Lev, Abby and Lev travel to California in hope to find the fireflies where they get captured by some bad slavery group.

    Ellie meanwhile can't find piece even tho everyone of the people she wanted to see dead was dead except Abby. Ellie leaves Dina to seek revenge again even though Dina pleads her to forget about Abby and move on.

    Playing as Ellie again who managed to track down Abby and Lev and after finding them, almost dead, tied to a cross she feels pity and frees Abby but before she let them go she is battling with herself and loses the intern battle.
    She doesn't let Abby and Lev go and wants to fight but Abby refuses to, so Ellie turns so dark that she threatens to kill a defenseless Lev if Abby doesn't fight her.

    There was nothing in this game that left me unmotivated except this Ellie vs Abby battle. I didn't wanted to slice Abby with my knife while Abby only had her fists. I didn't wanted to fight Abby at all.

    I was not able to connect to this dark side of Ellie. I was fighting with myself to press the QTE when Abby was pleading to stop, I felt sick in my stomach when Ellie drowned Abby and pleaded that she would let go of her. In the end she did and Abby was free to leave with Lev.

    Abby deserved her revenge altough the way she took it out was unnecessary. She went through a horrible time on this slavery farm and she was broken when Ellie found and freed her. Abby lost everyone while Ellie still had her people in Jackson, had a girlfriend and a good life after she was spared by Abby in Seattle.

    I had prefeered an ending where both Abby and Ellie would have to fight side by side to get out of a life-threatening situation and come to terms and being able to forgive each other instead of how this game ended.

    While this game was Ellie's story, half through this game I felt this was Abby's story and both deserved a better ending than what we got.    … Expand

The game literally had me in my feels from beginning to end did not think I'd grow to like Abby's character as much as I did but I believe that the story teaches a very powerful message about how revenge can feel good at the time and seem justified but can also rob you of all you hold dear the enemies are extremely smart and keep you on your toes and feel very human the world itself is gorgeous and highly detailed and I love crazy amount of options put in the game it made it very easy for even my wife to play it so thanks for that as well… Expand

    Graphics, animations, number of details and other technical aspects are the best in the industry so far. No one can deny it. The story though... is polarizing, whether you will like it or not depends entirely on what kind of person you are. For me it's one of the best stories I have ever experienced 10/10.

    If you loved the story and the journey of the first game do not buy this game - you will feel betrayed. If you don’t care for a rewarding story but enjoy the gameplay of the first, you might get value here, but don’t expect it to have moved on much. Play the first game again instead.

    THE ONLY REAL CRITICISM: The game is just more The Last of Us. No more, no less. The combat is the same. The dialogue is the same. The characters think and act the same. The game even looks the same (still beautiful and horrible). Nothing new is on display. It's functional, and fun most of the time. The characters are all written well, but at the same level as the first game. No big surprises, no "game of the decade!" twists. Just a solid story about loss, revenge, and pain. That's it. If you like the first one, you'll like the second. If you except the game to open a hole in the sky and deliver a divine message of hope and wonderment: you're looking in the wrong apocalypse.    … Expand

    I have played it and I don't think it's a masterpiece. Lot's of gameplay issues and story related faults.

    Being progressive in general I had no issues whatsoever with gay or transgender characters. Simply put it just wasn't a great game.

    In another scene Joel sees a man asking for help and he immediately knew it was an ambush.
    Joel kills numerous people in Part 1, so he knows that is ass is asking for revenge of someone.
    Joel uses fake names.

    - So Part 2: In middle of the game Abby said she got a lead, suggesting that they don't know where they are, and in any part of the game is showed they know how Joel or Tommy looked like.
    But Abby and the group found the town, Joel saves Abby. In the middle of a runaway Tommy had time to make introductions and said their real names. This don't make any sense, Tommy learned from the years in this world to don't do that, he was a firefly, and killed people too, and knew that Joel killed many people.
    They go to Abby's hideout and things start to be very bad in terms of contradict character build:
    1 - Everyone or many of the Abby's group are with guns in hand, Joel and Tommy leaved theirs on horses.
    2 - Joel stands in the middle of all group, a guy that don't trusted a couple with a kid, killed hundreds of people and know how ambushes work.
    3 - Tommy again slipped is name, but don't says Joel's name.
    4 - If this, for you, is not a shot in the foot of ND, or is a spit on one of the best characters in industry of gaming this is:
    5 - Joel standing without a gun, surround by a group he don't know, helpless if something happened said his real name "Joel".

    ND, or should I say, Neil Druckman don't give a **** about Joel's character, if this don't prove to you that, this should:

    He makes you play half of the game, or even more with the person who killed Joel. But if this is even not enough for you, put it in this perspective: Imagining play half of the game with any daughter, mother, wife, of some random npc or character Joel killed.

    Believe when I say that TLOU Part 3, if it comes out, will be a failure. Because now ND and Neil Druckman can't put Abby's character on the trash can, so or you will have to play with her again or they don't bring her in the third game and that will be another shot on the foot because you literally made a game around her and now you toss her out so people will question "why do you did that in Part 2 and know Abby isn't even here?"

    I'm not saying that Joel didn't deserved to die or that I wouldn't accept that he dies. But you do it without breaking is character core and definitely don't force fans to have to play half of the game with his killer.    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
