It does certain things amazing (gameplay, graphics) but also is terrible with the story and getting fans excited. We wanted a game where you play as Ellie and where Ellie can be flawed but not evil. Instead, they turned Ellie into a monster, Joel into a bumbling fool, and a sadistic murderer into a heroine. The ending was depressing, and I felt worse after finishing it, not better.… Expand

    I have never experienced these many emotions in a video game, even rarely in other medias. The game made me feel anger, sadness, hatred, happiness, grief, scare, calm, hesitation, and so much more. Many times, multiple emotions are mixed together at the same time.
    It is a masterpiece and must play if you like good stories and can keep an open mind.

I cannot understand why this was made, who thought it was a good ideas to put this out, and who approved it? Naughty Dog may want to do some major changes in their offices/upper management.

    The only thing i didnt like was some of the decisions the characters made. Abby lets ellie go and she tries to kill her, then she does it again cuz stoopid. Also why do preganant women wanna be close to zombies so bad.

    The game, in my opinion, is pretty good, although the plot is too long in my opinion. The game is implemented very well graphically. For a game of this genre, in my opinion, the 7/10 is well deserved. But not 10/10

    In the end it's just a game and if anything shows you how much Cûckmann thinks of himself it's that fact. He thinks he created art, a masterpiece of storytelling. No dude all you did is ruin a few characters people enjoyed playing as 7 years ago.
    All for the sake of creating a third grade, emotional splatter short story. Congratulations.

    The people who did genuinely amazing work are the coders, graphic artists, level designers - the people on the ground.

    too many jump on it when they didn't even play the game, I think you have to play the entire game to really see it for what it is.
    The environment is superb, the sounds and the factions.

    The gameplay is taken from the previous game and is getting better and getting more features that makes it feel different and better, like the dodge that makes melee feel more fun than the first game.

    The exploration in the game is great, the stages feel very open and the option to enter places and look for recources and look for notes that tell more about the world.

    The quality of the animation is unreal and makes the game very believeable it's insane.

    And now to the point of the story that many jump on it because of the leaks.
    I truly believe you have to play this game and not rely only on leaks or on what other think about it to see it for what it really is.
    the world of the last of us is a dangerous one and part two shows it, no one is safe.
    its getting out emotions that not many games will get out of you.
    it's a tale of revenge and hate and how it's consuming and can leave you with nothing.
    the part of two perspectives is not something new but it adds to the story to show that the other side has their reasons too, and while yes I love the characters of the first game and felt rage for what happened in the first part of the game, the second part is successfullly making me see why it happened and accept it, and even like the character and wishing for both to get out of it, and that's why in the last part I felt heavy and just wanted then to stop.
    This is a dark game and in no way a bad one, not all games need to be Cinderella games with happy ends and I hope many can accept it.
    I think everyone needs to play the game and see for themselves if they accept it or not, but even if they don't like the story the game is worth it even for the gameplay, environment and all the other stuff in it.    … Expand

    One of the best experiences that i have playing a game.
    Forget about the hate, the same people hating in the future will be calling the game "Cult".
    Nice story, perfect graphics and gameplay similar with the first game but upgraded. MUST HAVE for all PlayStation owners.

    Don´t listen to all negative feedback by players. If you will make it to end of the game, you will understand how much interconnected it is to first game. They perfectly showing that every decision matters and it will have consequences.

The game looks amazing and the sound are phenomenal but i think that the main of this saga is the story and the characters and those parts of the game are totally ruined. If you kill one of the most beloved characters in the saga, early in the game and want to bring in another character to replace him, you have to give a story to them.… Expand

The game was hard to get through, with just constant sadness throughout almost every cut scene. The only moment I truly enjoyed was playing the guitar as joel.     It's a beautiful, well-written, morally complex video game that's ultimately smarter than most games and a lot of movies coming out these days.

    Well the last of us Part 2 is an amazing game with a unique story about a girl that revenges her father figure.

    This takes place 4 years after the 1st game ended and seeing thses charecters again was super sweet Joel and Ellie are just amazing together and to see in past interactions how there bond grows with time.

    Ellie game play is roughly a good 13 hours plus a last final act with her. i loved playing as Ellie and as when we play as her in part 1 for 4 hours and left behind was the cherry on top, this squeal was more bitter sweet.

    Killing Joel off the first two hours of the game in present time was hard and brutal, and giving us a story of revenge and cold killing as they marketed for the last of us part 2.

    When Ellie story is closing we get Abby's story and really was not that interesting, even though her game play levels was fun no lie.

    Story score as a fan was a little disappointed and more so i wanted more of ELLIE NOT ABBY

    **** Abby and the WLF Washington liberation front, and the firefly. **** them i hated them i did not like no one from that camp and i did not care about these characters.

    For me Ellie (Ashley Johnson) did an amazing performance to keep me interested,, but Abby as (Laura Bailey) also did a fantastic job, but they did nothing to care or invest on her character act, i looked like 2 story's for me the one they marketed as a revenge story and a little spin off of a new character.

    Over all my score is 7/10 its a fun game and im doing my second play thought to see if i can understand or fell Abby's side because Ellie is in my heart all ready, and i fell for her loss. [Link omitted per site policy]    … Expand

    Edited this review after 9 months to fully reflect on it and it's the only game I've ever played that's soured over time. My initial rating was 10. Just no. Naughty dog you had 7 years and in that time you added proning and an abysmal story.

    7 anos esperando por uma continuação e tive uma experiência incrível!! Só não entendi como o jogo tem tanta nota negativa em menos de 12 horas de lançamento,sendo que o jogo tem mais de 20.

    Marmanjo com mais de 40 anos nas costas não superaram que agora temos uma protagonista FODA, Superem!!
    Joel já estava morto nos trailers,não foi novidade nenhuma

    The story is absolutely horrible. The leaks were right. What's up with the ending? You try to kill Abby but you suddenly feel guilty? What's up with that?

    Then there's the characters..Oh boy, they are so forgetable. Some of them feel forced into the story just to push an agenda.

    Then there's the actual killing, why does it have to be so gory? Are they trying to be edgy? It's not Carmageddon or Mortal Kombat.

    I spent two incredible nights playing through the game. This game has the best of every single category. Graphics are the best this generation. The soundtrack has that incredible naughty dog flavor you hear in many of the titles, but hits every note better then the last. I never could have guessed how this story would turn out.     This game is a huge disappointment. The first part won the PS3 best game title mainly because excellent story, without it it was only a linear third person shooter. The second part has a garbage story and now it is only third party shooter. Technically magnificent, but boring and not involving.

    A Naughty Dog se superou de todas as formas nesse game. Ampliaram e aperfeiçoaram tudo que já existia no primeiro juntando isso há graficos e mecanicas tao boas quanto o antecessor e uma história que envolve momentos marcantes e de reflexão te colocando pra sentir tudo aquilo da forma mais real e brutal possível. The lack of character building, the manipulative way of story writing and suggestive narrative that want to make us love Abby and her crew, despite of the justified choice of Joel in tlou part 1 is mindblowing. The writing and pacing of the story is really poor. To suggestive and one sided. I get the idea behind the other side of things but the way this "revenge story" just comes down to is to basic and non relatable compared to the gameplay. Murdering 100s of soldiers, totally neglecting the zombie apalocalypse, and bringing pregnant ladies to the battlefield while morning over losses on both sides and banding with totally uninteresting Characters just did not do it for me. The gameplay was dragged out and while you spend a lot of time looting and crafting for Items, weapons and ammo, the gameplay tries to psuh you in the direction of stealth. This is so contradicting, and destracting. The flashbacks where the best part of the story but just made it even more all over the place. I was hyped but scared at the same time that this game would go in a direction I would not like. Out of all the options how to continue with the story, they picked the worst one. It's a writer and developer choice but it doesn't make sense in my opinion. Off course the visuals look great, the acting and sounds where impacable and the time spend on detail is amazing. To bad the story and choices characters made where not believable and relatable. I'm dissapointed that the game pushed towards a part 3 and didn't have a conclusion or maybe even an player choice. All and all a game I really wanted to play and I'm happy I did but definitely not half as good as the first one.… Expand

    Cheers from Russia. This game is amazing. Graphics, gameplay is awesome (especially at max/survival difficulties). I love the atmosphere and new locations as well. Yes, as a TLOU fan i was shocked and frustrated with SOME SCENARIO MOVES, but, at the end, i got it. Yes. This is game is almost a masterpiece, i would give it 9/10. Minus point for some agenda and some story desicions.

    This review will probably get lost in the other thousands here, but if any actual player is reading it: the game is great, not perfect, but great overall... I have 3 days with sleep breaks and back in the game with so many emotions that I really don’t get it why so many are upset.

    The true plot of this game, just like in the first one, is    I'm pretty sure this game has given me lifelong PTSD that will be triggered by somebody I'm sick of pointing to a building 5 miles in the distance and saying "that's where we're headed." This game has almost no plot or character development, and is padded out by hours upon hours of walking through a boring, uninspired world.

    The true plot of this game, just like in the first one, is basically that there are a few "human" qualities that people have that trump all else that can happen to us, and losing those--basic stuff you'd find in any religious text like compassion, forgiveness, empathy, etc--will turn us into monsters. In the first game, it's that a civilization without those is not one worth saving, in the second it's that losing them will cost the individual dearly. (I hope now the ending makes sense for anyone with the superhuman attention span to beat this steaming pile of garbage.)

    The problem is that they did an awful job telling that exact same story in this game, and took some narrative risks that unfortunately fell completely flat. This was one of the most tedious games I have ever played in my entire life and should have been about 20% as long, and where it fails is mostly on the basics: gameplay is boring; upgrade trees really don't matter; nothing new is introduced; not enough exposition in the story ever takes place to keep anyone but the most devoted fanboy's attention (which is unsurprising as, in fact, there's basically no substance to expose); section after section is artificially extended through combat encounters that don't matter; characters act irrationally just like in budget action films; the game does the whole jumping around in time thing that's gotten to be such a pretentious cliché that even Rick & Morty make fun of it; and the narrative device of flipping back and forth between two opposing perspectives, combined with the generally poor pacing, had the effect of simply rendering me incapable of caring about either one. By the end of this game I was so thoroughly divested of any interest in the characters that I was quite literally sprinting through everything so that it would end and I could free up the hard drive space with the knowledge that I beat it.

    Keep taking risks, Naughty Dog--but do a better job at it.    … Expand

    I was really looking forward to this game due to the first last of us was my absolute favorite game ever! I have been gaming singe 1996 and have been playing all sorts of games.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The 8/10 isn't swayed by anyone elses score or the overall rating. (For comparison I rated Last of Us part 1 as a 9/10.)... I think it's not okay to rate a game 10/10 just to try and raise the overall score because others rate it 0/10 to sabotage. Two wrongs don't make a right.

    So here we go: I fully admit that this game is a very long, very emotional rollercoaster.
    It will not be for everyone, that much is very certain. There were events in the game's story I didn't like. But all of the story feels like something I can believe. The people in it are, just like in the first one, very authentic feeling people. They aren't perfect, or absolutes. They don't always have the same mindsets, as their moods can change, they don't have perfect lines that feel scripted. It flows very similar to life.

    So when many say that the characters act untrue to themselves; well... I never felt like there was one specific way the characters acted in the first one either. Even Joel went (in the first one) from "I don't care why you are being transported" to offering guitar lessons. But in this one, people are absolutely shaped by the events of the last one.. and the events of this one.

    Hell, on some bad days I can be a complete douche and act on mood and emotion, while most days I make my decisions based on reason. Same with these characters. That's why the writing holds up very well to the first one. I would have hated the characters to be reduced to "stereotypes of Joel and Ellie from the first one" a whole lot more.

    If at any point you stop playing when it hits you with the lows (like the anger you WILL feel if you're invested at all) you will end up loathing the game. Early in the game I had to stop and.. recover overnight to keep going. Later on in the game I thought I was at the ending and felt very put off and didn't want to keep going right then. But I opened my mind again, let the rest of the story come around and... it did wrap up more satisfyingly. NOT in a perfectly traditional ending though. It's ... anything but a complete answer. Or completely satisfying. But I think it left me with just as much food for thought than the first one. After all, I hated the ending of the first one right after it had happened. But the more I thought about it, the more I found beauty in it. In the plot going for something that's not a "given" cliché that every story should have done, but a very human ending instead.

    If you adopt a mindset by an event in the game (or pre-determinately hate the game after seeing the leaks for example) and won't stay open to any further storytelling, close your mind from giving the game any more chances, that's it; Your mind IS made. You've decided. I encourage going on, as though we aren't used to games making us feel outraged, disgusted and sad ON PURPOSE, you ARE supposed to be feeling those feelings. There-in lies the beauty of what the game does.

    You insisting on the other person being the bad guy is EXACTLY what the characters are feeling. They do not want to hear or know the other persons reasons. They will not entertain the idea that the other person was just like them, on their revenge. But the game's plot asks us to do so, forcing us to play as the person we do not want to identify with at first. We don't want to hear Abby out, give her any room, hear her reasons. "F her"...
    But if we do hear it out, there's a moment in the game where Ellie has actually done more bad to her, than the supposed "villain of the game" has done to her.

    In the end, they will both find some forgiveness in them... but their revenges cost both of them a whole lot more than they would have lost if they had just let it go. But they couldn't. It wasn't an option and they needed closure.

    "If I ever were to lose you, I'd surely lose myself" they sang. Ellie did lose herself for a long while. For Joel losing Ellie's was the only thing he had feared in the past 25 years and while he selfishly decided on not losing her, to a potential vaccine, he did end up "losing her" in trust... but was about to maybe be forgiven. If he hadn't perished before it, because of the actions that he took to people in the first one. People, who also had their loved ones they would do anything for.

    It's a fantastic set of 2 games that made me think a whole lot about human psychology and mental health when faced with trauma. Not many post-apocalyptic stories touch on what such events would do to a mind.

    The polish, worldbuilding, acting is all top notch.

    The reasons I rate it lower than the first one, aren't really so much in the plot, but pacing.
    The first one felt a lot tighter as a storytelling package. Idk how the many pieces of this one would have been re-arranged better, but at times if felt disjointed. Especially when "starting again" as Abby after going so far with Ellie. The content that's there works though, but might've benefitted from taking turns between the two or.. idk. No deal breaker for me though.    … Expand

Yes joel dies, I hated that, but you still play as him throughout the game but in the past. I dont see why people tripped so hard. I think this game could have been an uncharted lost legacy game and neil should have wrote a better story to keep joel alive so the series can strive and continue its glory. Done after this great game with naughty dog. I wouldn't want to play another last of us game.… Expand

В первой части я прорывался через геймплей ради сюжета. В этой части я им (гейплеем) наслаждался. Вроде всё тоже самое, но он стал глубже и разнообразней.
    Сюжет крышесносный. Это совсем не то чего вы ожидали! Это разрыв шаблона. Я трижды думал, что вот уже конец игры, и каждый раз всё закручивалось еще сильнее. Здесь нет правых, а есть свои и чужие. И у чужих тоже есть своя правда. Игра заставляет проникнутся симпатией к антогонисту. Прочуствовать всю его боль и понять его мотвацию. Пожалеть Мишку! И ты уже не знаешь кто здесь антигерой.
    Меня игра просто выпотрошила эмоционально. Это реально круто. Концовка идеальна. Я сидел в шоке доигрывая конец игры, так же как я был в шоке от финала первой части. Спасибо ноти дог за оффигенную игру!

    I don't really care about the negative hype around of the game. In gameplay level they fixed what annoyed me in the last game, in story level I got a rich, well worked, R-rated story and I'm grateful for it.

The few improvements they made to the gameplay are ruined be the pacing of the story because you end up having more clips than gameplay which is a pity because the first game had the perfect balance of this. The reality is I gave this a low rating because the story is trash and because this is a story based game that relies on you being into the story. It has a few good moments but because they kill a character in the beginning of the game then force you to play as the killer you lose almost all interest. Characters act out of character in order to advance the plot and everything relies on you to accept everything is happening by coincidence which is just lazy writing. The game wants you to be depressed and works goes out of its way to reach that goal which makes it just as hard to build up the interest to finish as much as playing as the villain for 10 hours. It’s a basic revenge plot trying to go over the top with its message that isn’t really unique about The despair of revenge.… Expand

    Imagine having such a weak faith in your audience that the mere thought of them shooting the Star of David caused you to make them un-shootable.
    I've played the game and there's a part later on where you find a chapel in a hospital, inside this chapel is a statue of the Virgin Mary, you can shoot that.

    One of the best games I have ever played. Unlike a lot of others, I actually think the plot was a very good continuation of The Last of Us 1. The mechanics, graphics, dialogs and obviously the STORY was amazing. I would give it 10/10 if not for length of the game; could be a little more condensed in my opinion, but for many it is probably a benefit.

Not every good story that needs to be told has to be some epic cross-country adventure. There’s nothing wrong with a good revenge story where the main characters ambition is retribution such as God of War. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
