    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just beat it last night and WOW what a masterpiece. A lot of the people here are taking stuff massively out of context and clearly have little to no understanding of the characters, their motivations, and the complex development throughout. The story also doesn't necessarily hold your hand with the character's reasoning, it's largely up to you to put it all together and a lot of people don't have the patience to do that.

    The story is great, the gameplay is stellar, the graphics are wonderful, the music is perfect. There's so many memorable and emotional scenes.

    This game will go down as one of the best of all time. Again, an absolute masterpiece.    … Expand

    There are many reasons to love this game, while there are many reasons to hate this game. Thus 6/10. The inconsistent characters, weird turning points in the plot, and bad pace in story telling ruined something that's supposed to be a master piece.

    Naughty Dog make it happen again! Excellent gameplay, extraordinary graphics in-game and unbelievable CGI. METACRITIC should be an example and apply filters about users review! The haters are awful and digusting people!

    I would give higher but after 2 weeks post complete on hardest setting... I barely remember anything other than a nasty taste in my mouth and mind. I liked the new characters though i feel they wasted them. Some of the side missions with Ellie and Joel were truly wonderful.     Mostly it's just too long. A little boring and silly. I like Abbey alot. ALOT. Also the game is violent. Like ultra violent. So there's that.

    Buy it on sale. Play it. Sell it. Move on. Ignore the devs acting like asses or the lunatics who hate minorities.

    It deserves a 7.5 on technical skill but if a game makes you feel sad and ill then just want to forget maybe it doesn't deserve 10/10    … Expand

    Game is masterpiece, just don't read at all negative reviews cause that must be from ones who dont know what a great game is or didnt play and finished it. Just go and get it and enjoy!

    I usually don’t post reviews. Only the unreal greed of NBA 2K has upset me enough to do so. If lucky enough to play TLOU 2 without spoilers like I have, I think you’ll come away from it thinking something similar to me, that this game is a masterpiece! The visuals, music and sound, the story, the pacing, voice acting, the ability to improvise in combat, all amazing. I challenge to find aI usually don’t post reviews. Only the unreal greed of NBA 2K has upset me enough to do so.     A weak 10. But still a 10. fantastic story. Amazingly beautiful. Emotionally strong.
    Part 1 was bout Love. Part 2 is about hate. It is also the most hated game in history, which makes this game more than a game. It is actually art.

    The level of detail and work they put into this game as expected is top level stuff. Trust me when I say, this game is genuinely a great ride from beginning to end. If you liked the first one even a little. it's a no brainer.
    As with anything, play it before you judge it, seriously. Don't go by the review-bombers, most of which haven't even touched the game.

    I watched all of the leaks, and still decided to buy this game. Naughty Dog has always come through in the past, and I assumed would do so again. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is slightly improved from the original, but the story is a typical Hollywood trope, that has been done countless times before. For me, this was a huge letdown.     The story and franchise potential is absolutely destroyed. I have finished the game recently, and if you think that the main game is terribly dumped into bottomless pit alongside with all the hopes and love for the franchise - wait until you'll finish the game. The ending is terrible and absolutely demolish everything you loved in the first game.

He murdered all those fireflies and the one doctor that we know of that could potentially make a cure, all to selfishly save Ellie who didn't even have a say in it. And he lied to her about what happened and permanently damaged their relationship. The whole point this game is making is that violence begets violence and Abbie's revenge on Joel seems justified, just as Ellie's revenge on Abby seems justified. But as the body count gets higher and Abby loses all her friends after seeking vengeance, the message that "violence isn't the answer" becomes clear to anybody who can consume a story properly. There are definitely some huge problems with pacing, especially in the beginning and the second half with all the flashbacks. The ending was perfect, Ellie broke the cycle of violence but it was already too late and Dina had left. And her leaving Joel's guitar behind was symbolic of leaving behind the violent ruthless tendencies she learned from him. She broke the cycle. Watch American History X if you want a story with the same ending where the character that redeems themself still dies in the end because of the cyclical nature of violence and vengeance.… Expand

    After finally finishing the game I can say this is truly one of the best games I've ever played.Where some might have not enjoyed the way the story turned out (Which is fair) I wish it didn't turn out this way, but that doesn't mean I didn't like the game, because the game is **** amazing, probably the best looking games ever made.

    All about this game is very well done, Graphics, Physics, Gameplay, Animations, all is in high quality. I think this is the best game of the generation.

    its a good story and good gameplay it needed more improvement with fresh new gameplay but it's ok the best part of the game is the message that the story trying so send and I love it, good gob naughty dog we need just anew fresh gameplay next time.

    A perfect sequel to the bold, refreshing original. I can’t believe Neil took so many risks-all of which paid off. I can’t wait for the next ND masterpiece!

Anyway, all characters deserve all things what happening with them. Ok, we got the director idea. But it was unjustified long and boring... Jump here, crouch there 30 hours in a row hahahaha. I almost drop the game when Neil force me to look at the other side. It wasn’t work for me. NO ANY SIDE CHARACTER IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR MY SADNESS (on the other side). Ok. Maybe this game would be a good tv series, but not good enough gameplay game. Ooooh yeah the one side character with some gender ide ntification problem) It’s my favorite part of unnecessary SJW in the game) First of all, it is completely unreal situation in the post apocalypse. Secondly, it’s looks so stupid. Than, i like the design of all things in the game. Visual part of this game so amusing (ofc not talking about downgrades). But story is not for TLoU fans. It’s become so obviously what Neil want to make you feel in the middle of the game, but u have to do repetitive gameplay and listen the uninteresting npc’s...     -Slow opening unlike the exciting opening of part 1.
    -Joel’s song about “losing you” is a little on the nose.
    -What is the point of the opening flashback only to skip 4 years?
    -Lame teen drama.
    -Dull opening in Jackson.
    -Ellie doesn’t feel like Ellie anymore. Where’s her sarcasm and wit?
    -Dialogue between Ellie and Dina in general is very stilted and awkward and dull.
    -Overuse of the “knocked unconscious” trope.
    -Dina is a very dull love interest.
    -Convenient writing like Abby’s group having photos of themselves with written names found in a bag.
    -More lame teen drama like Dina being pregnant.
    -Constant use of flashbacks.
    -Traveling alone in this zombie infested, dangerous world doesn’t seem to have consequences since everybody seems to be doing it like Jesse.
    -Even MORE lame teen drama with Ellie being jealous of Jesse.
    -Contrived dilemma of needing to go back to Jackson or continuing after Abby because Dina is pregnant. Why did Dina even come along?
    -They do another “giraffe” moment with Abby and the zebras.-
    -“We’re no better than them” cliché.
    -Flashback date with Own and Abby is unbelievably cringe and boring.
    -Owen and Abby’s aquarium date mirroring Joel and Ellie’s museum flashback. Tacky and contrived. Be more original.
    -The unnecessary sex scene with Owen and Abby.
    -Character falling into water and disappearing trope with Tommy.
    -The scene with life on Ellie’s farm is very dull.

    I gave this a 6 to boost the score a bit. Compared to the 1st game and Uncharted 4 it's more of a 4 or 5 imo. What I loved about the Last of Us 1 vs Uncharted besides the AMAZING storytelling is the sense of progression. While minimal it gives you a reason to explore the world. Here, I was not encouraged to explore outside of enough to have enough special weapons for any potentialI gave this a 6 to boost the score a bit. Compared to the 1st game and Uncharted 4 it's more of a 4 or 5 imo. What I loved about the Last of Us 1 vs Uncharted besides the AMAZING storytelling is the sense of progression. While minimal it gives you a reason to explore the world. Here, I was not encouraged to explore outside of enough to have enough special weapons for any potential boss battles which there are few. Fallout 4 is the template they needed with this story. Great customization and mini games in case you hate the main story. Im glad I read the leaks because I may have broken my PS4 after completing this. I will say great graphics--less a few NPC's and I think they were trying to make everyone ugly so mission accomplished I guess; great voice acting; great score; gameplay 8s fine if you enjoyed the first; but be prepared for abysmal story decisions.… Expand

Gameplay was meh and less varied than Uncharted, and the stories and plots directly copy pasted from movies and books, just so they can say "look games can be mature too!". Did love the DLC though.

    This is just a try-hard gritty story about revenge not being worth it, that beats you over the head with how bad revenge is.

    That it wasn't predictable is the only thing I can say for it. It really was a waste of money and time, not just for me as a consumer, but also for dev. But of course critics love it, because they jump at any opportunity to prove that games can be mature too. TLOU2 isn't mature though. It's a hamfisted copy of comic and movie tropes that tries way too hard to be relevant.
    If at least teh gameplay was more like their Uncharted games with having more variations constantly...    … Expand

    Well, where to even begin... I guess, I will start with this idea - I totally understand why people are hating this game (besides all LGBT, transgender and other political nonsense). They hate it because this game is dark. While the first Last of Us had an alluring story of bonding between a figuratively father and daughter, second game is about the grief and how different people deal withWell, where to even begin... First game was dark in atmosphere, but was full of jokes, funny and sweet moments and overall message of the game was bright. Second game is much different. This game has practically zero light in its story and it is full of darkness, which is shown in the very end the best way possible. I honestly believe, that everyone should play this game just to experience this darkness and to see how they react to it. I think, that people, who say that the plot here is 1/10 are either shallow people who have zero understanding of what darkness is or people who are so in love with the first game, that they cannot forgive NaughtyDog for making second one as different as possible. I do not respect the choice of NaughtyDog to push transgenderism and LGBT policies (my only issue with LGBT was the word "Bigot" in the very beginning of the game, because this word is overused), but it is crucial to say, that these ideas were as little represented as possible and have no influence on the story whatsoever.

    To sum up, I cannot say if the Last of Us part II is better or worse than its predecesor, simply because it is a sincere original dark story about loss, guilt, redemption and consequences of ones action. This game is a must to play and I am grateful to NaughtyDog that they made this sequel. It made me think about a lot of things.    … Expand

    - It's hard to look, and play, this game without thinking that it shouldn't be possible on 7 year-old hardware

    - The story kicks off with an unspeakable act that drives you to pursue revenge - no matter the cost

    - Throughout your journey you lose those closest to you because they cannot understand or share in your hatred and relentless pursuit of vengeance

    - Only when faced with performing an unspeakable act of your own do you reflect and wonder, "Was it worth it?"

    Some people may be disappointed that they don't get the revenge they were desperately hoping for but, IMO, that would have been a bad, generic story that betrays its characters and our understanding of them.

    The only thing keeping me from calling this a 10/10 are a few, very minor, gameplay decisions that add up to the loss of a single(meaningless) point.    … Expand

    Just eight hours into the game and it's everything I hoped it would be and more. I have the same sense of dread I had with the first. My play time is limited, but like with a good book, I'm trying to get back to it whenever I can.

    Игра отличная, возможно даже тянет на игру года. Конечно в плане сюжета хуже первой, типичный сюжет про месть и слегка затянут. ЛГБТ пропаганда есть, но она настолько мизерная, что этого почти не заметно. Моя оценка 8.2/10

    If you waited for this game because you loves amazing story and character from original TLoU - better original, as you will not find anything worth you time here.
    In short - TLoU2 does for original TLoU the same crap that Terminator Dark Fate did to Original Terminator 1/2, the same crap SW: The Rise of Skywalker did to original SW    Technically good, but hollow and soulless as a zombie.
    If you waited for this game because you loves amazing story and character from original TLoU - better original, as you will not find anything worth you time here.
    In short - TLoU2 does for original TLoU the same crap that Terminator Dark Fate did to Original Terminator 1/2, the same crap SW: The Rise of Skywalker did to original SW trilogy
    As for gameplay - it yes, it has some improvements over original TLoU, but it does not make a really noticeable difference in a long run and these improvements do not compensate for ruined story full on inconsistencies, plot-holes and plain dumb moves.    … Expand

    I'm impressed with some reviews here because you can say whatever you don't like about this game but it's not bad, not even close. If you're basing your opinions on some secret agenda, well I didn't see anything forced on that side, so that's one, another one is the story, which it would never be the greatness of the first part.     At first, this was an 8 for me but on my second playthough, I had an even better experience, so that's a 9 (for me)
    The story is more and more interesting if you read the files, if you overhear conversations because you get to understand that you're not killing bad guys, but people like Ellie and everyone in Jackson.

    For example an early 'open' section which is a one off (when I felt it was going to be like Metro Exodus) and then back into holding your hand. Taking control away from the player seems like it gets worse throughout.

    Chooses to focus on non interesting characters than the scars and that would be interesting to learn more about or even play as.

    So many oddities that it seems like several different people wrote and designed sections without direction or communication with their director.

    Ruins everything built in the first story with a fairly unlikable Ellie, absent Joel, limited interaction with previous characters and bland new characters that again are hard to give a damn about.

    Strange edits and time jumping which is always poor story design and lacks the coherency of the 'road trip' feeling of the first game. You can 'feel' cut content whilst also not sure if certain sections should be in the game in the first place. Would have been stronger being 5-10 hours shorter.

    Poor lighting in parts and not the best HDR which seems like a simulation.

    All good games should have one thing in mind at development stage...'Is this fun' and sorry but no, this isn't always fun (If I have to hold triangle again I'll freak out)

    Mixed feelings about this game, the graphics are amazing, and the gunplay is stunning, but the story is by far the downside of LOU2, forcing me to play as a random character when the first game developed a true experience is ridiculous, it was very disappointing

    Was able to get this earlier, and my GOD this game is so BAAAAAAADDDDDD. It completely craps on the original game. There is nothing good about this story at all. While critics give it 10s across the board, the real score is what the audience is giving it. This will be The Last Jedi of gaming.

    This game just reeks of missed potential, what should have been ‘Breaking Bad’ turned out to be ‘Game of Thrones Season 8’ or the new Star Wars movies.

    I was upset by the beginning of the story and hated Abby, but If people actually play the game you see how Abby and Ellie are the same, they destroyed their lives for hate and revenge, but both realize it doesn’t really serve a purpose to get revenge and just causes more pain and suffering. 10/10

    The very sad truth, I could not even finish the game and I do not think I will, between the spoilers and the forced story, it is unpresentable, even if the children make 100 thousand accounts to raise the grade they will make people think that it is a Good game ...     While it doesn't add much when it comes to gameplay, the story unfolds in a deeply emotional journey for every character involved. Rarely has a game dared to go this far to tell the story it wants to tell and if you let yourself accept how cruel the world of The Last of Us truly is, you will see this game for what it is: a storytelling masterpiece with fun gameplay.

    But .... in the end,
    its everything just throwed away. Like, they decided to build a story based on violence. explicit violence. And they do this very well, each death its painfull, it hurts, it feels real. From a story perspective, it works great as a stand-alone story about revenge and breaking the cycle (a theme better explored in God of War). As a sequel to the first Last of Us...meh. Gotta say i was expecting more, despite what actors and sony said the leaks did leak a lot of the game, the main thing that annoyed me was Melee combat once you get hit your stuck getting hit unless you have a shiv/knife or you can somehow hit the dodge button perfectly cause if you time it wrong you will get hit before you complete the dodge or right after, it annoys me so much that 3 enemy encounters were focused around this and a block button would have served a better purpose since our enemies can block. The story is also just revenge after revenge, ellie comes to try and get revenge on abby after abby came to get revenge on joel, then abby comes to get revenge on ellie but decides not to and then ellie in her PTSD riddled mind decides to go try and get revenge on abby again. Like what the hell the last game was about Joel and ellie bonding in an abandonded world as they try to bring her to the only people that can rid the world of the infected and how joel decides that he cares too much about ellie to sacrifice her, but no this game is all revenge theres no survival and the only bonding done is in the last 5-6 hours of a game that took me 40 hours to complete. They try to make you feel bad for abby but i feel more pain for those that travel with her later on in the game as they are stuck on the run with her due to one of them making some bad decisions. Ellie just straight pissed me off to much with how she treats her friends and those close to her the only good moments i found with her were in playable flashback moments that take place just after the first game and just before the beginging to this one. Another point of annoyance is how hard it is to aim woth any weapon theres so much sway you'd think that the characters were infected like ellie and abby have been suvivng for how long and been training to shoot for how long yet they cant keep a steady arm, and that sex scene is just plain unnecessary sony censors other games for less and yet they allowed this and that just pisses me off. The only great positive the game has is Graphics and detail in animations the game looks beautiful and the detail in some of the animations with no clipping or stutter is amazing its just a shame that its all wasted here.… Expand

The skill tress are great, the weapon upgrades are great, same with the crafting. The game is beautiful and despite not liking Abby at first I grew to like her a lot to the point where her fight with Ellie was heartbreaking. Amazing game… Expand

    I have enjoyed this very, very much and I am really looking forward to playing it again, this time paying attention to the (plenty of) small details and nuances this gem has to offer.

I didn't want to keep playing because the cautious optimism of the first game is gone. The dialogue and overall plot of revenge is very cliche and the depth I was expecting never happened. Soooo much is based on perceived "shock" value.

    The ending almost makes the entire game pointless. "UGH" sums up the narrative experience which in a single player game really influences how a game is rated in totality. My goodness!    … Expand

    It's a masterpiece. I don't remember playing anything like this before. A story so violent, yet so beautiful. Even if you will never play it, I hope one day you will sit and watch someone play it from start to finish, from Part 1 to Part 2, because Naughty Dog created, not only of videogames, but of all media, one of the most powerful stories ever.

This is a hyper realistic game in almost every sense. How could we ever think that our beloved Joel's villainous actions at the end of the first game were going to have no consequences, no payback?     -Too much political messaging that doesn't fit the world of tlou at the point that I stopped feeling inmersed.

    Conclussion: unnecessary sequel, better to stick with the first one and forget this was ever made.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
