I had to process this for a few days. Ugh where to start? The original is one of my favorite games ever made. The storytelling alone rivals most blockbuster films today. The bond between Joel & Ellie was intoxicatingly beautiful. And when I heard the sequel announced years ago I was beyond excited. Even though the first game was a close shut experience.

But ngtl the more I heard about this the last two years the more I was dreading it. Up until the release date I was scared it would ruin what its predecessor accomplished in gaming. Did it? Well yeah. Okay let’s do this. To start off, the story is eh compared to its legendary counterpart. And I love Ellie don’t get me wrong but—she’s not compelling as a main character which is why she worked well as a supporting character. This game had to invent an arc for her by destroying a more rich character’s narrative. The arc of Joel was tremendous and this game just throws it away for a **** revenge plot that goes no where. It was a crime to fans. Now all my criticisms lay with the narrative as the game is gorgeous! Definitely a technical achievement. The combat is more enhanced even though it’s your basic over the shoulder mechanics. Ngtl there was intense moments and I was zoned in. But going back to the plot, why was this game made? I’m here for story. The continuation of these characters &this world. Which could’ve been done so much better. The only time I got any levity was the flashbacks of Joel & Ellie which instead made me want to play the first game instead. Which in return made me more depressed. The reason for a character arc or a hero’s journey is to learn or grow from what the story drives the character. Which worked for Joel and him overcoming the death of his daughter in Ellie—but here no one learns a damn thing, even from an empty arc. And it’s not like I’m saying the game is bad. I as a narrative appreciater is just trying to understand why this sequel was made besides to piss off a dedicated fan base. I’m still mixed on this. And I’m happy people love it. But I expected more. Especially with its god tier predecessor. That should’ve been left well enough alone.

I had played the first title twice before, first time back in 2013, on PS3, blew my mind (and I'm sure everyone else's too) never have anyone ever experienced anything like that before (and then second time the Remastered edition on PS4).

Now on Jan, 2022 I have just finished Part 2 (I couldn't put the controller down), oh man! What a crazy ride! The game is definitely one of the greatest games of our generation. A pure masterpiece and a masterfully crafted, visually stunning piece of magnum opus novel-esque gaming experience to have and to your surprise it leaves you thinking and pondering afterwards.

No doubt, Neil Druckmann, is a master storyteller, and one of the volcanic persons in todays gaming industry (Good news that Neil is currently working on his upcoming live action directorial debut "The Last of Us" TV adaptation form HBO). Gustavo Santaolalla's music just adds another dimensional layer to the story.

The story's dark emotional arcs leave you dry and devastated, while the enthralling gameplay, cinematically detailed rich and lush level designs, bone-chilling action sequences, massive scale of film like set-pieces will surely give you goosebumps.

THERE IS TWO SIDES OF EVERY STORY, IN 'THE LAST OF US: PART II', IT LETS YOU PLAY IT, AND FEEL IT! THANKS TO EVERYONE IN 'NAUGHTY DOG' FOR CREATING A MASTERPIECE!

Me parece un final muy rancio, siento que todo lo que viví en el trayecto del juego se desmorona al final, entregando un desenlace bastante flojo, la venganza es un tema que puede tratarse de varias formas, incluso hay películas y videojuegos que lo han llevado mejor.

On paper, the Last of Us 2 has everything it needs to be an instant classic (Shame that multiplayer wasn't included). It was breathtaking graphic, slick and immersive gameplay, and a great amount of accessibly (especially when it comes to difficulty setting). However, everything great about the game from an artistic and technical level is bogged down by one of the worst narratives I've ever experienced. It is Last Jedi and Game of Thrones Season 8 levels of bad, and completely tarnished what me and so many other adored about the first game. Rather than being a continuation of Joel and Ellie's story, Joel is instead thrown the way side for a new character named Abby, who you are forced to play as for a good portion of the game. Abby is one of the most unlikable and irredeemable characters ever in a video game, and honestly deserved to die. But instead, the game forces upon you an incredibly contrived "revenge is bad" narrative that is at odds with how many players will feel while playing. The game is so bleak and depressing that I honestly had a hard time finishing, and to say that the ending was unsatisfying would be a massive understatement.
As the Fireflies would say, "when you're lost in the darkness, look for the light", but the Last of Us 2 seeks to avoid the light at all costs, and it results in an experience that I honestly wish I didn't waste my time with. If you enjoy the game, that's fine, but for me, it is a great insult to what made the original special, and should not exist.
To everyone who said that the Last of Us didn't need a sequel, you were right.

Is a Flashback simulator, Is a flashback inside a flashback inside a flashback, Is a half-baked vengeance tale, The game have two protagonists Ellie and Abby, and the whole game you are forced to kill each other. Ellie could stayed in Jackson and give up on revenge, and be happy with Dina but no she had to go after Abby, and killed all her friends, Than a second time she could had stayed with Dina and the boy and made a lot of sweet love with Dina, but no she had to go after revenge again, And gave up on revenge three times, and for the end did NOT killed Abby, She lost 2 fingers, lost Jessie, and stayed alone in the end, without Dina and the child, She got shot a lot and stabbed and lost a lot of blood for what? Nothing! Lost everything for NOTHING didn't finished her revenge. The game is very difficult even on Moderate Challenge (Medium Difficulty), I must have died about 30 or 40 times, But managed to finish the game in 25 hours. Visually & Audio wise the best looking and sounding game ive ever played and I have a 2080ti in my PC. An amazing world with insane detail, I couldnt stop taking screenshots! Amazing gameplay with the best AI ive ever seen in this style of game. Story wise, It wasnt perfect but its no way near close as bad as people make it out to be.. Abby was justified in killing Joel & playing in her perspective shows there is no true villain and just a people dealing with the outcomes of their actions.

This game made me feel emotions not many have, I felt bad killing dogs just like someone would in real life.. doesnt mean the game is bad.. This game intentionally tries to make you feel bad, and some people cant handle that.

The story might not have turned out how people expected/wanted but that does not make it a bad one.. People think they know these characters inside out after 25 hours of game play from the first.

Ignore the negativity hype train and people running their agendas around muscley women & transgenders, it did not feel in any way to be virtue signalling or social justice attempts..

The story wasnt perfect though hence my score.

Visuals 10/10 (check out accessibility options where you can increase FOV)
Sound 10/10 (Amazing detail and 3d placement)
Story 9/10 (Some odd decisions here and there but not even close to the hate it got)

At time of writing this game had 5.7 user score, so much trash has higher scores, dont let that persuade you from a must play.

None of them are relatable or easy to care about, even Ellie and Joel are so detached from what they were I grew to hate them, even tho with Joel I barely got any time with him before plot brain kicked in and got him killed. This story is a spit on the legacy of the first, I remember getting the first one in 2013 and staying up to late to go to work the next day and instead of sleeping i kept playing and beat the game in 1 sitting, with Part 2 i took multiple breaks after rolling my eyes to many early story points and when they made me take over the awful character that killed a good character I lost all interest in pushing to the end. I will no long be supporting the company, if they are going to work their employees to the brink of death the least they could do is actually give a quality product. Game doesn't deserve a 0 because the few things it does well it does really well, and should be praised but I cannot recommend this game due to its blatant disregard for its predecessor. Expand

Not only the story was incredibly screwed and unnecessarily prolonged to say the obviousm (perhaps to increase gameplay time), but also the games forces you through a single view seeking you to accept the victimization of a criminal in the game(not gonna add spoilers here, but who played this one knows whom I'm talking about).
Besides that the "visceral" violence in the game that some of the (PAID) press is praising is actually done in a way that psychologically screwed up the developers involved.

    Things I didnt like:
    - Abby. This was the perfect moment to introduce a very strong transgender character: the world is **** people are becoming crazy, so it makes perfect sense for someone to question their sexuality, beliefs and other. But she does nothing to depict the benefit of her being transsexual, or the character traits to affect the story: aside from a meaty scene and couple very flat jokes, she could have been a guy and nothing would have changed. A missed opportunity.

    - Story. Seemed out of place, rushed - the story would feel much more compelling if some events appeared earlier than the others, it feels like order was screwed. And overall, it was quite predictable.
    - Gameplay: combat still sucks ass, very slow and clunky, especially during escape sequences. I guess controller limitations, but hey... it is literally painful to aim sometimes.
    - Ending: Subverting expectations, in the worst way, the last jedi way. won't spoil, but whatever you have done in game is literally thrown in the garbage bin, since apparently it was not needed and a character does 180 emotional transformation.

The game is shocking with some minor bugs that shows up from time to time. But besides the art is beyond expectations. Kudos to everyone that worked in that aspect, my respect.

Cons: Doing a list during my play through, I decided to enumerated at the end from lesser to top cons.

    1. the level design, if is well deliver that feeling of open world after a few minutes exploring the area becomes actually very small with a lot of "exploration rooms" where you will find a forgotten note, material or a bullet. Basically all the levels are pretty linear and the game doesn't take the effort to at least dissimulate.

    2. characters: without counting for Ellie, Tommy or Joel for coming already from the first part, the rest of the characters are completely forgettable, with plain reason and actions that most of the time you will notice doesn't have sense. Introductions seems forced and the moments when they are cooperating with Ellie is just basically, you can take it off of the gameplay making a solo adventure and will not feel different.

    3. the story and dialogues, from cheesy lines that seems take it from a fan fiction forum to the whole story happening in the game. Contradiction actions to the personality of players and "forgettable" moments when the character say something to do something completely opposite 5 minutes later and the dialogues are "fine, nothing, good." The whole story is filled with holes, lame excuses and forced topics.
and 4 (and the worst in my opinion), the length of the game is 22-25 hrs plus for a game that could basically wrap everything in much much less. Unnecessary cut scenes and stealth moments that you basically going to say **** it" and cross from point A to B to trigger the next cut scene. Because is unnecessary long.

I wouldn't recommend it to buy it. If the game was in offer, I will think about it because only for the graphics, physics, art, etc is a solid 10. From the point of view of characters, dialogues, story, puzzles, etc. A solid 0

Even if you don't like the story, no way in hell is this game a 0 and it's messed up that people use reviews just to make a petty statement.

Let's actually review the game, shall we?

From the moment the game starts, it's clear that ND have outdone themselves when it comes to audio-visual presentation. The game simply looks phenomenal and it's still hard for me to believe they squeezed this performance out of a PS4.

Gameplay is largely unchanged from the first part. Granted, I haven't played it in years, but it felt pretty much just like playing the predecessor. There are some minor additions and tweaks to traversal and gunplay, but if you're familiar with how TLOU part 1 played, you'll be right at home here.
The big difference however is the level design, which is much more open and natural, and sometimes simply visually spectacular.

Story and characters: if you haven't spoiled the game yourself by reading the leaks, then surely this game will not go the way you think. Which, to me, meant that there were a lot of surprises and I constantly felt the need to push on to discover how the story unfolds. I very often read that people found the characters to be unlikable, too grim or that they could not relate to them. Personally, I cannot understand those sentiments. To me, each character's motivation was always clear, even if some choices needed a little time to become clear. "Ellie is not the positive counterweight to this dark world anymore" Well, no **** Her world has been shattered several times. And people can't relate to that? I'm starting to ask myself if some people just have a problem with basic empathy.

All in all, I found the story and the characters compelling enough to keep me awake into the early hours of the day several times, as I just couldn't stop playing and forgot the time. Only really great games can do this to me.

You didn't enjoy the story? That's fine. People have different tastes, not everyone will like this. But the problem I predominantly see in the reviews here is that people had certain expectations going into this game, which weren't fulfilled. And the reaction is to go onto a hate tirade against the game director and review bomb the game online. And I'm quite frankly sick and tired of this "entitlement" online hate mob. "The game director did not please the fans, BURN HIM AT THE STAKE!" How petty is that? I can't get my head around it.

In general, audiences constantly demand something new. They want to be surprised, they don't want stories to be predictable. However, if you take it "too far" as a director, and you do not fulfill people's expectations, prepare to get bombarded with hate. I'm not even going into the "political agenda" bull**** many people out there are getting upset over. If you have a problem with a game including characters with different sexual orientation than yours, or a different idea about gender identity, then GTFO. It's 2020 and if this stuff offends you, please go back to the past and stay there.

Ellie has a girlfriend. Oh no.
Lev decides that he does not want to conform to the gender role that was forced upon him and wants to live his life as he sees fit.

That's all. That's literally all. And number one shouldn't even be a surprise because Ellie was already outed as gay years before TLOU II was released. People are up in arms because of THIS? What. The. Hell.

Just like TLOU I was a master piece, so is this one. The acting is superb. The graphics are insane. The game play is solid and tense. The story and the characters took hold of me for the entire duration of my play time and three days after finishing it, I am still processing it. On the cover, it might be a simple revenge story, but in reality it has much more nuance and more layers than just that.
The stakes are not as high as they were in part 1 (potentially saving the world), and it's much more personal this time around. But it's still a very emotional game, for very different reasons, and at least for me, it totally worked.

    9/10.

This game is immensely bleak, with the bright hopeful spots of the first entry being altogether absent. With that being said, just about 10 hours of the game are wasted on fruitless plots, and the entire story (potentially of both games) is rendered meaningless by the dumbfonded ending. I could say more, but this game is a huge disappointment, and I regret waiting 7 years for it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You introduce a new character by having them KILL one beloved character right in the first 30 minutes of the game, and then you force us to play as them for dozens of hours... Aren't you guys supposed to sell copies of this? Am I missing something? You made this in order to profit, right?

    This story is a mess.
It goes back and forth with the timeline. That wouldn't be needed if it was done right.

The players wanted to see what happened to Joel and Ellie after the first game.
They knew that they were headed to Jackson, are we were expecting to see something more during their time in Jackson.
Instead of that, we only get a few drawings and words written in Ellie's diary about some previous events that happened in Jackson, and we also get a beloved character with their skull smashed with a golf club in the first 30 minutes of the game, which could be avoided if the writers didn't make the character DUMB and kept it as they were before.

Funny thing about this, is that Naughty Dog needed to have some of their fans to explain why certain characters did certain actions, when THEY should be the ones to do that, by explaining it IN THE GAME.

    [spoiler] :
Abby smashed Joel's skull with a golf club. Abby didn't know how Joel looked like, but knew his first and last name, his age and where he was.
Joel never trusted anybody in the first game and refused to tell his name. In this game, he tells his name in the middle of a group of dozens of people, knowing how many people he has killed in the past.
This is not an "accident". They've made Joel dumb.
The worst part is, many people justify this as "this is what happened when Joel let his guard down".

    This is laughable.

The best part of the story, is the flashbacks (which is around 2 or 3 hours of gameplay). The rest just feels "meh" and predictable. You could tell where the story was going after Joel's death.
The writers made us think that this story would be ground-breaking, and it was you typical revenge story, expect, in the end, you don't kill the villain (for some reason).

For a game that relies heavily on story, the most important part of the game is truly disappointing.

Now let's talk about the rest.
    - The graphics are gorgeous (as expected)
    - The audio is top notch
    - The actors did a tremendous job, despite people not liking certain characters, You can't deny that. Really well done.
    - The accessbility options are something that, hopefully, will become a standard from now on
    - The gameplay is the same as the previous game. There's nothing new to it, besides new weapons and a jump button (which you'll only use it 2 or 3 times because you have to)

There's nothing in the game that makes it a 10/10 game.

It's fun to shoot and kill people and zombies, take photos with the in-game Photo Mode, but that's it.

"Revenge is a fool's game" - You don't need to spend your money on this game to find out something that you could've found out in 2018. Save your money and spend it on things that you really need, specially in these though times.

When comparing this game to the original, Its hard not to give this game a good score. The original was good but almost in every aspect this one has improved. You had Ellie and Joel bonding and travelling to find the fireflies in hopes of retrieving a cure;Joel made one important decision and that was it. The second game, I felt juggled and balanced more characters, and subplots to make the game far more dynamic and interesting. The game play is relatively the same compared to the first, with a few minor additions and open environments to make it a little more interesting. The graphics are second to none. Whether you dislike the story or not, everyone can agree that every other aspect of the game is absolutely stunning. IMO, that doesn't warrant anything under a 6. Story is only one aspect of a AAA game and its the most subjective. Take all of those terrible reviews with a grain of salt.

Joel would not have trusted unknown people in this way and I do not understand why leaving Tommy and Ellie alive if they are witnesses, from there I noticed that the story has problems, it makes me think that the characters no longer have common sense and I honestly do not care if the characters are LGBT or not, just as they were heterosexual, this would not change how wrong this story is, contradicting something that was established in the first game. If a story is told well, they don't have to explain anything else to you. On the other hand I applaud Naughty Dog for the technical aspect of the game, the graphics are amazing and the game seems to me very well polished. Expand

The main characters of Joel and Ellie from the first game are broken up early on. While this is a good starting point for pushing Ellie's plot, the issue comes from the split perspectives between Ellie and Abby. It is meant to draw comparisons between the two characters, but it ends up becoming an anachronistic story told from different points of view and different periods of time. There was one point where it was even a flashback within a flashback. The most disappointing part of the story was the ending as it cannot really be called an ending. The same fight plays out twice with the same inconclusive end to it.

The biggest issue comes with the game's controls. The only way I can describe it is that it is bad. I found myself struggling against the controls during combat more than I was with the enemies. Aiming on a controller is just awful and most close quarters combats play out like bad quick time events. In the end, I had to turn the difficulty down because of how hard it was to aim with the controller and melee combat was impractical on higher difficulties. The platforming parts of the game are just as bad with the controls.

The only thing I can say is positive about the game is the graphics. It looks good and there are seamless transitions between gameplay and cinematics. The environments are nice. Character animations are nice. The character models on the other hand are bad. I feel that they fall into that uncanny valley where the realism starts to creep me out.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You can find better revenge stories in old westerns you can watch for free. This review will probably get taken down do to Naughty Dog and Sony’s extreme tactics against criticism on YouTube and twitter but will see what happens. Played it early by setting my time forward. The story is generic and is extremely trivial and by the 15 hour mark you will be asking “What is the point?” Your characters actions reflect nothing of the emotions state your character is in during the actual plot. You murder 2 people and are crying over it but just 2 minutes ago you ran through a room slitting the throats of a dozen people. That kind of disconnect wasn’t in the first one. In the first game Joel wasn’t proud of what he done but he knew it needed to be done. You start off the game as Ellie but after Joel is killed you switch to Abby following her story of “regret”. Fast forward to an Anti Climatic and easy to call fight Abby beats up Ellie and Dina then goes to kill the pregnant Dina but the kid Abby is with says no then they piss off. Fast forward a year and Ellie still wants revenge and they somehow track Abby to Seattle. Ellie goes to leave and Dina says “If you leave we won’t be here if you return”. Sure enough our protagonist leaves and goes on a quest to kill Abby. What follows is a mind numbing boring quest to get to the end. Once there we face off against Abby only to not kill her. Abby rides away with Levi and when Ellie returns sure enough Dina is gone. Price of Revenge I guess

If you want a good revenge plot I will save you 40 dollars. Go on steam buy Mass Effect 2 with the Price of Revenge And Lair of the Shadow Broker DLCs and there you got two good stories plus a 30 hour game.

We shouldn’t judge this game on Graphics. They are great but it’s why this isn’t a zero. It’s a complete slap in the face to anyone who likes the original.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yes, I have played and fully completed the game before rendering my opinion of it. Overall TLOU2 was emotionally gut-wrenching in a great way. The emotional impacts it had when it had them were amazing and what I have come to expect from Naughty Dog. The graphics, character animations, environments, and gameplay are all amazing! The level of care and detail that they gave to seemingly the smallest things is really amazing. The level of interaction with the environments, the kill animations, all great. Small details like when under a vehicle you shoot on your side and craft on your side instead of just floating the camera like so many other games do. There are too many to list. I very much enjoyed it. I know alot of people have had issues with the story. I have too do toa degree, but not for the standard reasons from what I've heard. I am not upset about how or when Joel died. His death was not a shock. I assumed he would die in this game before any leaks every came out. It had to happen. I get it, I'm fine with it. From the begining I was hooked with the story. The presentation. The darkness of tone and emotion. The death of Joel impacted me and it was some of the biggest feels of the game. I was all onboard with Ellie's revenge plot and totally in untill the second half. When the narrative shifted to Abby (as I assumed it would) I expected a good amount of gameplay but not half of the game. This choice to do this really derailed the momentum of the game for me. I understand what effect they were going for. Seeing the counterpoint to your actions, humanizing the people you've killed, and seeing what Abby has done and will loose due to her actions; like Ellie. The story has them both as morally ambiguous protagonists. But I just didn't care as much as I did for Ellie. This had nothing to do with her having killed Joel - I just never felt connected to Abby or her agency. I felt like this section of the game dragged. At least until the end. The ending was brutal and amazing. Truly depressing and sad. And it was great. I don't care that she let Abby live. I think that was a good moment. But I would have wanted a bit more development around that. Loosing her fingers and Dina in the end. What a gut punch. The number of times I have teared up or cried from this game is a testament to it's strengths, the amazing world, writing and actors in it. I felt it in the first game and it's even more so in this one; these games are post-apocalyptic westerns. This game in particular is essentially an old Western revenge story like that of Unforgiven. It's gritty and dark and depressing and real in so many ways. It really is great and I love the world. I just wish that second half was structured differently for pace and effect. Overall it's a truly great game. But I feel it had the potential to be utterly amazing. But do take I to mind that normally in almost any other game ever - I would not be so critical of these things. It's only because the first game was so good and that this game too is that good, that when aspects of this game don't fully land that it upsetting. I would personally give it an 8/10. Expand

But I think the game is a failure. The game tries too hard to question the apology of violence and always punish the player to play the game as it is intended. "My dad has been murdered ? why not kill like 1000 persons to get my revenge ! And at the end let's spare the killer because i am not a monster !" Ridicule. The second playthrough with Abby is absolutely useless because She and Ellie are at the same state before and after that part of the game. No character development whatsoever. I didn't want Ellie to kill Abby, worse, I prefer Abby over Ellie because her life has been ruined by Ellie/Joel at so many levels. So no, Abby is not the problem for me. Joel had to pay in some way. Tommy and Ellie vengeance is uncalled for and the characters keep makind bad decisions over and over again. When Joel went berserk at the end of the first game it was understandable, relatable (although overkill) . Here ? not so much. The game punishes us for what it forces us to do. What to say about this game? There are moments that I would have rate this game with an 8, 9 or 10. Let's talk about the graphics: they are awesome! This is definitely one of the best graphics in a video game. They are as good or better than Detroit, Uncharted 4 or Red Redemption. Also, facial expressions are stunning. They look very real. About the gameplay, I thought it would be quite different than the previous game but it's basically the same with very few changes. It's difficult to talk about the plot without spoiling anything. I'll just say that towards the end it gets more and more interesting. The best you can do is play this game without reading any review so you don't get spoiled. Somehow I feel that this game is part 2 and 3 although it's always the same story I got this feeling because of the lenght and the characters that you use. About characters, I miss the teenage Ellie but I guess you can't repeat some things of the previous game. It took me 28 hours to beat looking everywhere for suplies. Is this game better than the first one? They are totally different so it is hard to tell. I'd say both are really good. Although gameplay can feel repetitive if you play 1 and 2 one after the other. My main complaint would be the lenght. I think it should have last 18-20 hours although, as I said, it feels like 2 games. Also, I would have loved to see one pretty female character (I mean, even Ellie looks too real and not as pretty as she should be). Overall, yes it is a must have game but please play the first part before getting into this one. Both are really worthy! Expand

Extraordinary world, gameplay, graphics, music and sound - but story is, hm pointless. After all Its hard to understand actions of Ellie. I've spent great 30 hours in best looking world ever but story is too stupid. I thought that it will be easily best game of PS4 but it is not. Still one of the best.

I can’t explain myself why this story is so boring. You lost the Storytelling. I’d rather play one more time TLOU1 than this again... I guess I’ll be more cautious on naughty dog games in the future.

Discarding in a humiliating way the best character in a game, leaving him stupid and careless is revolting to say the least! I just don't give zero because the technical part is very good! Neil Druckman, the only thing you got was to make this game forgettable!

Game play is fun, and sometimes been scared by the zombies (monsters) when it suddenly jump out in front of me. Story is interesting but the only downside is the story line has too much tragedy. Make gamers always feel anxiety and moody. The story itself is rich but naughty dog put too much negative elements inside it. Gamers never get a happy ending in the game. I give 8/10 because 2 points deduct for the unhealthy practice of this game story line. I guess the producers of this game got mental disorder such as anxiety disorder. You should go to see a psychologist to give you some professional counseling. Everything should think positive.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think this story was beautiful and did what it set out to do. What Joel did had consequences. Abby isn't a bad person and her motives had about as much justification as Ellie's. I do think the Abby section was too long and I just wanted to get back to Ellie, but it served a purpose. This game just makes you not know how to feel, and i can kinda dig that. I love Joel, and I was destroyed when he was murdered, but after playing as Abby and learning her reasons, I get it. Expand

I felt bad for all characters because all of them are credible as humans. There are beautiful moments but terrible ones too. The game system is over the top. The missions are difficult, but fair. The enemies are terrific. The game has many incredible moments. Scary jumps too. It is sad and mature and full of action, and it is long. The post apocalyptic world is perfect too. The graphics and sound just awesome. Load times are near zero for a so detailed game. Thanks Naughty Dog. This is not only a masterpiece, it is a art masterpiece. I just hope the opinion of all people crying “you ruined my childhood” don’t affect the future of adult VideoGames. I’m really sorry for all the people who just don’t get it. Is not common having complex and deeply narrative in a videogame, but it was wonderful at last for one time. Thanks again to all the team responsible for this incredible game.

Unfortunately, it's the story in The Last of Us: Part II that is it's biggest weakness. At the core of Part II is a revenge plot, which in and of itself is not issue. It's that through it's the games 25+ hour of gameplay, it fails to come to a satisfying conclusion. What is here are character decisions that are entirely at odds with what was presented of the characters in both the 2013 original and through most of the 2020 sequel.

This game and your enjoyment will ultimately hinge on this games conclusion. You will either come out of this thinking The Last of Us: Part II is another masterpiece or a rare miss by Naughty Dog. For me The Last of Us: Part II is arguably my most disappointing game of this generation.

From what I gathered some idiot though they could try a Game of Thrones and make give every character a possible death.

Also why is modern day there is a need to make every women stronger than men, the women leader adored they the male leader some genocidal maniac? Why is does Abby have a bigger muscle mass than all of the guys??

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A game about vengeance and why people do what they do.

I wont lie, the major flaws are the time jumping, character swapping, and the game is a slog for 2/3's of it's length. There are long sections where your AI partner doesn't say anything to keep you engaged (unlike the dynamic Joel and Ellie had in the first entry)
It is very dry, dark, and not "fun" to play but that's part of the plot.

I think my only major dislike is Dina, this is not a happily ever after lesbian story... as Dina is not even really lesbian anyway. Her motives and intentions are not made clear until the final act. She was never meant to be the one for Ellie, and it's pretty noticeable when Jesse arrives at the theatre that Dina likes men more. She's literally a flaky, scummy person.
Do I like the angle? Not really, but once you get the full context. It's tolerable.

(In closing, the negative reviews must have been from people that have played an entirely different game)

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
