The game is using very cheap psychological techniques and emotional swings to hide its absolutelly trash plot. It has nothing similar to its predecessor. An absolute split in the face of franchise's fans.

I like this game, not perfect but so close. The LGBT message in the game was superfluous, it could have been done better, but it didn't matter.

For context, I tried playing the first game and just couldn't get into it, so that likely gives me a slightly different perspective than most people. The story didn't take the direction fans wanted, and many are upset. Still, a score of 0 is ridiculous, and for me a score of 10 is a bit much. It's a very good game, though it's not perfect.

Pros: Amazing graphics (seriously, I can't think of many games that look better); solid--but not perfect--narrative. Mostly, the story is good, though there are a few drawn out bits that I didn't think were great. The overall atmosphere that Naughty Dog is able to create with the experience is fantastic, though.

Cons: The game has moments that feel a little too repetitive for my taste (i.e., clear area, collect things, wash/rinse/repeat); while the narrative works, at times it is a little too heavy-handed and maybe a tad cliche; for me, the gameplay itself is fine, but nothing special (I've seen some people say it's amazing and some say they hate it--to me, it gets the job done, but that's about it).

Definitely not a 0 score game, you can't rank a game 0 score simply because you don't like it's story.
The story could've been better, and there're lots of flaws in it as well, but it doesn't matter. It is what it is.

As a game, gameplay, AI, stage design, physics simulation, actor performances, e.t.c. are all top notch,
to me it's at least 8.5, but overall it worth a 10.

This is a really odd game. The story is about how violence and hate only lead to more of it and you will never get out of the infernal cycle. The story is about how violence and hate only lead to more of it and you will never get out of the infernal cycle. While that is compelling in principle, it does not make for an enjoyable time playing a game for hours on end where killing is your only option anyway if you want the story to progress. I can see this as a short story where there is 0 interaction expected with or a film. But in a long game like this, you just feel punished for playing as the game intended. This feels like a game that wanted to be more than it is, offering you options to not kill or not be as cruel, using different mechanics and ways to play and there being a different outcome due to it (games like Dishonored, Metal Gear Solid 3, and even Bioshock to an extent come to mind). Something like that would have made this an amazing game and fit the narrative they are trying to convey perfectly. BUT instead we get none of this, with a very scripted game that gives you the same outcome no matter what. You have to kill and you will be told that killing is bad. So like, what's the point then? And worse yet, there are parts of the game where you play as the Abby character where the gameplay is far more fun, with more options to kill. So, what am I supposed to think here? It just feels like a mess. Plus, in terms of a game, so removing the story component, it's just ok. I wasn't a huge fan of the gameplay in the first game, which felt very predictable, repetitive, tedious, and even frustrating at times (instant kills galore) so coming back to a very similar gameplay didn't make me leap for joy. Still, I will say I am quite glad the mundane environment puzzles are mostly gone and I didn't have to put anyone on a raft, that would really kill the pacing in the first game. The pacing in this game is still really off but it is dues more to the story structure rather than the gameplay segments. In the end, it's not really a game I would recommend to play over others. The post-apocalyptic aspect of the first game is nothing but background noise in this sequel.
The story is atrocious. Pure SJW propaganda and nothing else.
Even Ellie's sexual orientation, that was treated as perfectly normal in Left Behind... they purposefully put an older white man in there just to call Ellie a "dyke". Do you think anyone would care about that in the TLoU world? They have bigger things to worry about. Stuff that actually matters.
This sort of stuff happens throughout the entire game.
And then they have the audacity to force Abby down our throats!
Oh man, I'll just stop here or else I never will.
The Last of Us did not deserve this. This writing team should be ashamed.

It's just not an enjoyable experience to play. There are movies and books which are much more powerful emotionally, but aren't pretentious enough to say they 'transcend mere entertainment'. The game-play is sorely disappointing and the story is heavy-handed, inconsistent, and ultimately non-nonsensical. What a disappointment.

So I've been playing The Last of Us Part ll at my pace consuming everything properly and OOF - It hurts me because I've never played a game which is such technical marvel, peak of PS4's performance as of now, yet the story structure seems like it's written by a nuthead kid's understanding of what it means to be 'deep' or 'dark'.

And mind you, it's absolutely nothing related to the LGBTQ representation etc. - those are more natural and digestible parts of the story.
It's about the plothole-riddled mess of a story which gives up on itself halfway and you're left feeling meaningless about this 'personal vendetta'.
You should play TLOU2 once ONLY if you don't give a damn about character development, story writing, structuring of the story for building a bond with the player and VERY MUCH visible story inconsistencies. Apart from these, the game is **** masterpiece, which is where it breaks me, you go through these amazing levels, tense gameplay moments, gorgeous vistas, phenomenal sound design experience, feeling better and expecting better out of the game only to be kicked back by the story, into realising how mediocre it is.
The entire story by far reeks of a very badly directed Netflix show.
The character development is the poorest, Joel doesn't feel like Joel, Ellie isn't Ellie, the side characters like Jesse, Owen, Mel etc are way better developed and have more dimensions to them than the leads.
The person who actually needs introduction first - Abby, is kept from player's understanding for majority of the game when she's the one who should be introduced and connected to the player first.

It's like Neil Druckmann forget how to write and direct after Bruce Straley and Amy Hennig left Naughty Dog and now you see how much his stuff is worth, straight nose-dive faceplanted on the ground from the success of Uncharted 4.

And their marketing did a piss poor job by setting up fake moments in trailer which NEVER happen in the actual game to reel-in customers with false advertising.

Oh and a note, if you're buying this game because you love The Last Of Us Part l, please don't, you're coming in to see how a person with zero story writing and direction skills wastes the talent and time of a studio full of RAD developers, designers, artists, animators, voice actors to fulfill his broken vision of the game.
Huge respect to Naughty Dog production studio for the technical marvel of a game, it's sad to see how just one apple in this amazing basket ruins the entire package.

This game will stand as a testimony of how even with the most state-of-the-art tech, phenomenal graphics and intriguing gameplay, your game will fall flat if the story ain't worth it.

Please note, these are my individual opinions based on my hands-on gameplay. Your experience and opinions are bound to vary. Thanks for reading.

The entire time I was playing as Abbey I felt nothing but contempt and loathing and all I could see was Joel's face just before the moment "it" happens. I felt no guilt for hating Abby. I felt the lesson of "revenge is bad" was completely ridiculous because we live in the real world and sometimes revenge isn't bad. Sometimes it's necessary. If revenge was always bad the weak would be trampled upon and the striong would dominate everything. The writing is just terrible and taking the game in this direction was a complete mistake from the gate. All I thought to myself towards the final chapter was "Boy I wish I played this game as Tommy instead". Ellie has literally KILLED hundreds of people in cold blood but she makes a few kills in this game and all of a sudden it effects her to the point she gets sick. Its ridiculous. If someone had done that to the person I loved and I was Ellie I wouldve did everything she did without one shred of mercy or regret. How's this for a moral of a story "YOU REAP WHAT YOU SEW". Man I was very disappointed in this game. I hope they can course correct for the 3rd installment. The main reason this game got a 7 out of 10 from me is that towards the end of the game I almost didn't even want to finish it. I genuinely thought about putting the controller down and turning the game off and never putting it back on and the only reason I bothered to see it through was the time I had already invested in it. Trying to push a mushy "revenge is bad" plot line in a story which takes place in the world these characters inhabit is not only stupid, its nonsensical and illogical. The world they live in is practically fueled by kill or be killed and revenge and survival. You kill or you die. You protect those you love or they die. You make a mistake and people get killed. These are the stakes in a world like the one they live in. To try and pretend like these people have the morality that we do in the civilized and corporate world we live in is just plain dumb. So like I said the game is almost perfect in every aspect EXCEPT for the story and the direction the game is heading in. The animations, the level design, the lighting, the gun play, the detail in the environments is all top notch and something the entire development team should stand tall and be so proud of. The acting and the performances given by the voice actors is superb. Its a damn shame that a couple executives or lead devs on this project turned what should be a gritty, tough as nails, survival and revenge story into a moral lecture about how revnge doesnt solve anything. Whoever decided to go that route with the narritive completely ruined what otherwise was an amazing experience. Its funny when I finished playing the Last of Us Remastered last week all I kept thinking to myself was "They better not **** this up in the sequel", and within 2 hours of playing the sequel I kept thinking "They ****ed it up", lol Expand

Now let me get to my actual review. Yes, I saw the leaks (saw them after I heard angry joe talk about them) and I was livid and vowed to never play this game. As time went on I started to open up to the idea of playing the game and then preordered it to start playing at 9PM. While the leak was legit in terms of the actual footage but a lot of what people had said regarding the footage was inaccurate. I cannot go into details without spoiling the game but I think that ND did a pretty good job with the story. Yes, it's not the story that we all expected or even wanted but that doesn't make it bad. As you play the game you will come to terms with the idea that Ellie and Joel are just two people that are part of this chaotic world that do what they must in order to survive and that some of the choices that they made can come back to bite them. If you're like me and vowed to never play the game because of the leaks, do yourself a favor and try to play this game with an open mind. Some people are upset about the ending but to me I liked it. I've heard people trying to compare this to the new star wars trilogy and having beaten this game, I can truthfully tell you that it isn't like that. Also for all of the people hating on this game because SJW and LGBT well I bet you that they never cared for the game anyway.

Oof. What a mess. Loaded to the brim with agendas and what can only be described as "woke-ness" at the expense of the game and its story.

90% of the enemies in the game are straight white males (the worst of them are crazy Christians, of course). Shocker. Dreary to the point of making BvS look like Sesame Street. Violent and brutal simply for the sole purpose of making the player uncomfortable. Some of the better things about The Oppression Olympics Part II are:

Outstanding graphics - Absolute top tier visual presentation.
    Sound - Brilliant audio design

That's about it. Gameplay is OKAY, its not bad, but like the first game the main draw here is the story and that's the problem: the story sucks.

The characters do things that either don't make sense or are entirely out of character. Example: Joel lowering his guard and trusting a group of "I-hate-you" faced strangers and giving them his real name. Then they kill him. Yes Joel, the guy you went on an incredible, emotional adventure with dies like a b**ch early into the game. Unbelievable. Then you spend some time as Ellie, an 80lb girl that regularly overpowers 240lb, fully grown men. Lol. Then you get to play as Abby, the woman (???) who kills Joel, for a good part of the game. None of these characters are likeable. Not even Ellie. The soul of this series is dead.

This is a game that revels in its ugliness and its misery. It delights in its portrayal of cruelty and brutality without acknowledging its repercussions. It prides itself in portraying the absolute worst in people, all the time, without end to the point of destroying any likeability that any of these characters could have had. It's bleak, poorly written, pointlessly violent and excessively woke.

There's also a "love" scene between Neil Druckman's digital avatar and the "woman" Abby.

I don't want to think about this game or about anything Naughty Dog might make in the future. Disgusting game, made by disgusting people. Horrible experience.

It runs smooth for the most part, looks absolutely stunning and was developed with so much love for detail, that I quite literally spent half of my playtime just investigating every little corner and inch of the game.
Gameplay is good, but not perfect. The encounters are more versatile than they were in older Naughty Dog games, but you can still tell that it was made by the same people, that did Uncharted 4 for example. However, combat is intense especially on higher difficulty and the feeling of accomplishment when you cleared a difficult area without wasting all your ammunition and items is definitely there and very rewarding.

The story is I believe what most people criticised the most. Yes it's not perfect, yes there were a few parts where I strongly disagreed with the actions and decisions of my character, but guess what, this is not an open world, sandbox RPG, it's a story driver "adventure" where I don't get to decide what people do and feel. Furthermore, this game manages like hardly a game ever before to make me believe I'm watching actual real human beings. Human beings that are flawed and sometimes naive and dumb - but real. And I'm really thankful for this experience!

Why not a perfect 10/10 then? Well, for once the game felt a little too long. It took me a bit over 30 hours for the first playthrough and I believe it would be even more intense, if this number was down by a couple of hours. The gameplay was like I said before good, but not quite perfect. And - similar but not nearly as bad as the Uncharted games - the ludonarrative dissonance is quite strong in this game.

So if each part of my impressions was weighted the same, I would probably rate this game as a 7 out of 10, but since I think not every part is evenly imported and the overall impression left me simply speechless, I'll give it a 9 out of 10.

This game is exactly done the way the first one. This is why it deserves 10/10. All the crying I'm seeing is bs. Some people just want to see **** burn. Graphics top notch, story an emotional ride, yea the controls are a tad clunky but nothing you wouldn't notice. Everyone who posted auto zeros within the first hour of release are trolls

I am 3 hours in and the game is the most detailed, most cinematic game experience that I've ever seen, just alone for that it is a game that is significantly better than average.
Gameplay-wise I agree this is more of a refinement of the gameplay mechanics established in part 1, but that I like that and it is definitely an improvement.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Oh what I can say about this game. Waited so long and its so amazing to look at, I wish it would come to PC just so I can see it in full detail settings. This may contain some spoilers based on what you may count as one. First and for most though, I want to say this, don't take any review into consideration on if to buy a game or not, everyone is going to be different and like different things and if you're upset about Ellie being gay, or about Lev or about anything of that nature, just move past it cause its causing you to miss out on some great things.

So lets start with whats bad.

-The AI for the NPC's gets them a little in the way, only happened about three times not a big deal.

-The controls are a bit of a learning curve to them took me a solid hour to remember how to run cause its not R or L 3 its L1 (Most games use the others cause its part of the joy sticks) but I suppose they have there reasons? Also came from playing Days Gone the day before so like maybe I was still stuck on how to do things in that game.

    - At least in my play through ammo was hard to find in the first half literally went through the first half of the game wishing I could just craft some at a crafting bench because I usually had 1 to 3 rounds for each gun, maybe 1 or 2 arrows and then maybe a pipe or something and thats a maybe, plenty of bricks and bottles laying around though, so why ammo so hard to find?

    - the inventory UI is a bit confusing at least to me due. They changed it up made it more modern I guess?
I personally prefer he first games more.

    - Joel, that's all I'll say

Now lets go to whats good.

    - the story, oh god this story, I was playing this game figured they'd break our hearts within the first 20 mins like they did with the first game, that dramatic moment with Sarah you know the one. Figured they'd do that to us again within the first little bit of the game, nope had the build up and the setting for it and they went on, until later which breaks our hearts

    - The visuals oh dear lord is this game beautiful to look at, it looks like they spent a lot of time and energy on the detailing and placing of objects. While playing I ended up finding a PS3 and just laughed

    - the fact they make you end up enjoying Abby even if its just a tiny bit, honestly hated her didn't want to do anything with her, didn't care about her, figured I'd just run through it real fast and get it over with and I found myself actually enjoying her side of the story, ended up taking an investment in what she did and her relationships with her friends.

    - The Wolves and the Scars and how it took the act of two to save one and now they're working together before our girl and Tommy shows up

    - They brought in complex emotions and uncomfortable topics and how the characters just accepted them and didn't freak out at least to much (in Ellie's defiance she was more mad she Diana was risking herself to be there with her at least that's how it come off to me) When Yara told Addy Lev is actually a girl by birth (not in so many words just said he was suppose to be a wife to an elder) and Addy just went along with it didn't bat and eye didn't care like it was normal for someone to be more masculine or feminine and them act on it.

    - Ellie, shes turned into quite the bad ass, she's been through so much and yet shes still the same Ellie from the first game, just all grown up and the moments where they're together make you feel like Joel and her really care about one another even though they fight and have disagreements they're like family.

    - Joel, seeing him again after 5 years playing as him, he's a little older, a little wise, yet he's still Joel.

    - We learn more about Tommy, I honestly didn't like Tommy much in the first game, just didn't stick me as a capable person as you play through the game and progress you learn a little more about him, and how alike him and Joel are.

In review, I recommend the game, play it, decide for yourself what you like and don't like about this game. Personally I think its great, 10 out of 10 would play again even if the ending isn't what everyone is wanting or expecting or if its different that what you expected I expected the game to pick up right after they left hospital and doing that, spending their time exploring and surveying dealing with what remained of the Firefly's or something along those lines but nope, we're thrown 4 years forward and an all grown up Ellie and an older Joel and it works. Go into this game with no expectations, it'll be a more fun ride that way.

It is with great disappointment and pain that I rate this game as it is. The Last of Us 1 is one of my favourite video games of all time. Its storytelling and characters are still unrivaled to this day. But The Last of Us 2 falls short of almost everything that made the original great.
I will mainly address what most gamers pick up TLOU2 for: its story and characters. Firstly the story.
The central theme of the game is revenge, or rather the futility of it. It is a good theme to explore and it does tie nicely to how the first game ended. The way that the story is told, the rationale for certain events and the overall story are, for the most part, good. They are grounded and believable, and you can relate to them. The story is also handled very maturely. While some people have said that it feels pointless, I personally understand why the story had to end the way it did. The narrative is paced out quite nicely, except for some parts which can feel a little drawn out. Overall, I would say the story deserves an 8/10.
So why am I giving the game a 5/10? Because of the characters. They are undoubtedly some of the worst that I have seen in a narrative driven game. They are so flawed in the executions that they actually undo whatever good that the story does.
The characters in this game has almost no identifiable traits. The story opens with Ellie being cold and distant towards Joel, and it is never explained why (for people who have played the game, this scene takes place before Ellie found out what Joel did). During flashback sequences where Ellie is with Joel, that’s when the characters shine the most. You can feel the bond between them, just like it was in the first game. But when Ellie is by herself, she shows almost no emotion. You just cannot relate to her. You can try to rationalize it from the events in the game, but if you have to do that then the characterization has already failed. You cannot relate to her motivation, even when it is spelled out for you. The rest of the characters have even less motivation to do anything. Dina, Ellie’s lover, is shown to be a mere acquaintance, who flirted with Ellie and kissed her during a party. A few days later, Dina “ran away” with Ellie, telling her “Where you go, I go”. The same for Jesse. He has a couple of exchanges with Ellie at the start of the game, which indicated that they have no close bonds. Yet he turns up halfway through the game, proclaiming that he couldn’t let Ellie risk her life on her own. The game throws these characters at you and basically tell you that you have to like them, without giving you any reason.
Let’s talk about character traits. Dina, Jesse, Abby, Abby’s friends, the people that Abby met… What do they like? What do they dislike? What are their traits? How do they react in a given situation? These characters are cardboard cutouts with names and no identifiable traits. Take a look at Tess, or Henry, or David, or Bill, or Marlene in the original TLOU. Those characters are fleshed out in the first minute that they appear on screen. Tess, in her opening scene, showed exactly what kind of person she is. Tough, pragmatic and not one to take things lying down. After 4-5 hours with Dina, I have no idea who she is as a character. She doesn’t get angry, or sad, or happy, or anything. The only thing that I remember is that she would like to have a farm. The same for Jesse. Or any of Abby’s friends. You could change their name and 3D model and the narrative would not be affected one bit. Abby and Ellie, the main characters, are fleshed out just a little more but that’s not saying much. Aside from their obvious and in-your-face anger because of the main story arc, there are no nuance to them. They are at best one dimensional characters.
To make things worse, there is an overemphasis on LGBT themes and traits. That in itself is not wrong but it is just too much on the nose. It gets jarring with the settings and the overall narrative without even adding anything to the story. You have a somber story about loss and revenge, set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world, and somehow, LGBT rights and representation has to be shoehorned in. Let’s compare it to my favourite LGBT character of all time, Sophia Burset in Orange is the New Black (played by real life transgendered actress Laverne Cox). Her existence in the series wasn’t for diversity sake. It was to tell her story, her struggle as a father her son, her struggle as a transgender person in prison. But her being transgender wasn’t her character trait. It was her sassiness, her flaws, her love for her son.
And so, all this adds up to an overall story where events unfold and you cannot care less about how they affect the characters because you cannot relate to them at all. I didn’t care that the events were shocking or dangerous. I didn’t care which character lived or died. And that’s the problem with TLOU2.

Yes, there is LGBT aspects to the game. I personally don’t agree with leftist ideology on homosexuality, so I tried to concentrate just on the story, environments and gameplay. With that being said, let’s get into The Last of Us Part 2. Gameplay - Similar to the first game, which isn’t a bad thing. You’re encouraged to explore the environment to scavenge for supplies which are hard to come by as they should be. Gun play feels fluid and responsive but isn’t too easy at the same time. When your character is under stress, your aim will shake more versus when you aren’t spotted. You’re now able to use high grass to hide from enemies as well as crawl under cars and other objects to hide. The AI is also much improved and will work together to find and kill you; nowhere is safe as they will literally check everywhere. My gameplay score is a solid 9/10. Graphics - 10/10 everything looks incredible, moving on...

Level design - again, 10/10. I really loved post apocalyptic Seattle and California, everything looked great and was fun to explore. Alright, here we go...STORY. Story - So, I can understand why so many people are so upset about the story and at certain points, I was really not liking it, but hear me out. I’ll sum up the story as quickly as I can and I’m only going to focus on the main points. The game starts off in Jackson, where the first game ends. Joel and Tommey go out on a patrol and end up running into a stranger running from a hoard of infected. They save this stranger and end up with this strangers group. Joel and Tommey reveal their names to them and then we learn that Joel was the whole reason they were there, to kill him. So this stranger (her name is Abby) kills Joel with a golf club and Ellie ends up coming in as it’s happening. After this Ellie sets out to get revenge. Ellie makes her way to Seattle and ends up killing all of Abby’s friends, but not Abby. We then play another 6 hours as Abby and they reveal that Abby’s father is the surgeon that was going to operate on Ellie to develop a vaccine. They go into more backstory on her relationships with different people but none of it is very relevant or very interesting (I had almost no interest in this part of the game, it’s pretty boring). Ellie and Abby end up fighting, Abby wins, and then she leaves saying “don’t ever let me see you again.” Ellie ends up back with her lover, Dina, (she’s a pretty pointless character). But, Ellie can’t live with the fact that she didn’t avenge Joel and that Abby got away. So Ellie sets back out to get revenge and kill Abby. She finds Abby in California who had gotten captured by another faction called the Rattlers. She kills all the Rattlers and finds Abby nearly dead hanging by her wrists from a pole on a beach right outside the Rattlers main camp. They fight, but this time Ellie wins. Right before she’s about to kill Abby she lets her go and says “get the **** out of here.” Abby leaves and Ellie returns home to find her lover, Dina, has left her. The End. The obvious message being, forgive and forget. When you seek vengeance, you lose everything in the process, and at the end of the day, it wasn’t going to bring Joel back. Obviously I’ve left a lot of backstory out as there are many flashbacks that dive deeper into both characters (Ellie’s and Abby’s) stories, but that’d be way too much to explain. Overall, I didn’t hate the game and I didn’t love it. It left me feeling very empty and unfulfilled in the end, but maybe that’s how I should feel, maybe that’s the art of it, that selfish vengeance will only leave you feeling empty. Story - 4/10

Sorry the game isnt all rainbows and sunshine, if that is what you want stick to Crash Bandicoot or Mario Kart. The game is dark as it should be. The butt hurt over the death of Joel is laughable. It was inevitable he would die. Ellie being gay was known from the first game if you paid attention. Gameplay is much like the 1st game so easy to pick up and play. The story is great if you simply put your fanboy butt hurt away. This game is everything I hoped it would be. Accept it for what it is, a dark brooding game set in a world where everything could kill you including other humans, exactly what would happen in real life in this setting. The violence is visceral and emotionally draining, in a word its "grisly".
It was exhilarating as it was exhausting.
It is AI at its pinnacle, the stealth mechanics are the best I have ever seen and I've played a lot of stealth games over the years.
The game does get a bit repetitive and every so often I get the 'oh, here we go again' feeling; stealthing an area of humans then progressing to the next section and having to deal with the infected, but its just so good and rewarding it really doesn't matter.
The narrative is, sadly, your typical revenge story shown from two sides of the same coin, but it really, really well done and yes I empathised with both lead characters and ended up really liking the new lead.
There are a number of reasons why this is not a 10/10. First, its not as good as the original, second it wasn't necessary, third, it runs far, far too long, the difficulty spikes at certain points are an example of poor QA. Don't get me wrong, I asked for it on Grounded but running round in circles trying to escape 2 shamblers, a couple of clickers, some runners and whatever else they threw at me just wasn't my idea of a good time.
    Now, the social commentary.
Ellie's reveal was expected but the bombshell dropped in the 3rd act is box ticking at its finest. Addressing this... situation, in a video game, brings nothing to the story and doesn't enhance the game at all.
I personally believe Naughty Dog wanted to be "industry leaders" by overtly addressing this theme in, what was inevitably going to become one of the biggest games of the decade. It was a marketing ploy, nothing more.
Its as if in order to justify the horrific and gratuitous violence throughout the game, which effectively is a "Murder-sim" (You remember Manhunt don't you?) the impact of the violence would be lessened, or glossed over by shining a light on this particular societal phenomenon.

I'm in love with Ellies story along with her partner's. I wouldn't say that killing off Jole early on was a bad idea, the current story between Ellie and her partner and how they interact kinda reminds me of
them anyway in the first game. The story direction now has me wondering what will happen next and I'm fully into it, the suspense is pretty high. The gamplay is definitely 100 percent improved and it has more of an rpg exploration element too which is awesome. It feels like your living In the world with them moment by moment not knowing what's around the corner. For me it's a masterpiece and currently I don't see why all the reviews here are bad. Why? Because Joel died? It's not the end it just opened up a whole new story line. With or without Joel it doesn't matter to me. Joel was for the first game now Ellie has her time to shine. Bring It on. I love it much like the first game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was one of those for fortunate to be able to rent this given all the bad previews it was getting, but I still wanted to see for myself. First, the graphics, music, and sound effects are top notch. The gameplay is similar o the 1st game, but has quite a few boring "fetch" quest with a lot of backtracking. This always upsets me because it is a generic way of the developer trying to extend the length of the game artificially. Although, all that positive is completely overshadowed by the unbelievable awful story. They totally missed the mark from what made the first game great. Not only do they kill off the character we came to care for and love, but force us to accept an obvious social justice type story and protagonist by forcing us to play as this character later on in the game. I have not been this disappointed in a game since Mass Effect Andromedia, and its for the same reason. Andromedia's story focused around pushing a social justice agenda on the player instead of letting the player make those choices themselves. Last of Us Part 2 does the same thing. The player is completely forced to accept a social agenda focused around LGBTQ acceptance and support. Than, the game goes out of its way to push it in your face at every turn with virtually every interaction you have. I believe people should be allowed to make their own view and opinion of social issues, and think it is just sickening that developers and producers of video games these days feel that the player is either gonna be someone who already supports their political/social agenda, or they HAVE to accept it in order to play the game. I won't be buying Last of Us 2 because I can't encourage this type of game development where political and social agenda's are the basis for just trying to force a view on the player whether they agree or not.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is genuinely incredible. I love how not only the main story revolves around revenge, but many of the letters and the environments you find seem to indicate that revenge and payback have destroyed this city on every level. I get it that some people are mad because of Joel's death and the change in protagonist, but not only were these things necessary to tell this story, but they made it so much better.
The Last of Us has been my favorite game since I first played it on the release day, over the years I grew attached to Joel and Ellie and I was definitely afraid of what was going to happen to them in this game. When Joel died I was absolutely shocked, not only by the idea of Joel dying but by how violent it was.

When Ellie and Dina were riding their horse to Seattle they had a very interesting conversation, they were trying to guess why someone could've possibly had the reason to do that, and they don't really get anywhere. Just in the first game, Joel not only killed hundreds of people, but he killed in ways just as bad as they killed him, let's remember how he also tortured people before killing them in the first game. And that's just what we played, he himself said that he did much worse when he was surviving with Tommy.

Now, about the structure of the game in general. This game isn't really interested in telling a story from only one point of view how the first one was, in the original you only had one point of view, and that was Joel's, that's basically what makes the ending so ambiguous and heartbreaking, you know the truth, you know Joel did that for himself, Ellie wasn't a part of that decision. In Part 2 we have Ellie and Abby's perspectives, and while I was incredibly pissed at Joel's death, after "Seattle Day 1" with Abby I got less pissed and more interested in how they were going to not only make me care about Abby but also how they were gonna show Ellie as the villain in the same way they did with Abby. While the placement and length (and the previous game, obviously) of Ellie's campaign makes it so that she is kinda the major protagonist, I think Naughty Dog did an amazing job with Abby's side of the story.

I've seen some people saying that they should've intertwined the two sections in a more natural way I feel like that would've made each of their stories less impactful. Throughout all of Ellie's story you have a very clear goal, take revenge on the people who killed Joel, and even when Ellie does some horrible things because of that goal, deep inside I still wanted that revenge. The cliffhanger in the middle of the game made me desperate for Ellie to redeem herself of all the violence she took part in, especially because of how much that was clearly impacting her mental health. Ellie made a very quick decision in pursuing Joel's killers and don't think she thought it through as much as she should, but at the same time, she was in grief, angry at what happened and later you find out she was also angry at herself for how she left things with Joel.

Abby's revenge, on the other side, was much more meticulous, she clearly had a plan and executed it in the way she wanted to. You can see how much that was a toll on her friends tho, they were there to support her, just like Dina was there for Ellie, but both sets of supporting characters weren't completely on board with the way things were done. By having us play her section after we played Ellie's story, Naughty Dog forces us to not only think about what we did as Ellie, but also hope that they can leave their acts of revenge aside because of how much misery they brought on everyone directly involved and everyone that ended up caught in the crossfire.

This game isn't so interested in showing how Ellie grows because of Joel's death, actually, she doesn't grow at all because of that, she only becomes angrier and angrier to a point where she is barely recognizable. While some people have said that this is a betrayal of the character, I feel like that is much more a result of the incredible violence she was forced to watch. Ellie is traumatized and expecting her to be the same jolly hopeful girl she was in the first game is absurd, of course she was angry, of course she wasn't thinking straight. I mean, so many people didn't like this game because all they wanted was a revenge story where Ellie killed everyone and that's it, without ever having to think about the consequences of what she did. That would've been an incredibly shallow game and feel like it would be a complete disrespect of how complex these characters are, by giving Ellie such a sudden change in personality, the impact of the ending is greatly elevated. In the end, Ellie finally has the chance to grow and deal with the trauma that haunts her throughout the game. Only by breaking the cycle of violence that Joel started can she move on from her loss.

Also if you didn't like the game because of it being too "politicized", you can go to hell.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll try to not give in to fanboyism or being too butthurt about the events in the game.

I have finished the game the day after release, not necessarily because it was so good but because I wanted to know how it >all unfolded. The game is, as was part 1 back on ps3, a masterpiece in terms of graphics and immersion. The world is beautiful, the fact that all enemies refer to eachother by their first name, call out to those that disappeared because of my actions. It's all great. The combat is a bit more fluent than game 1, and has a bit more options but it basically is the same experience, which is fine by me.

The story is a bit difficult to grade. They have tried to show how hate breeds hate, and how it utterly destroys people. It's an interesting subject to explore, and at times I felt for Abby, the dog Alice, Owen and the kids. But a lot of other sequences I flat out didn't want to play, that feeling amplified to the max when I was actually hunting ellie.. I hated it.
And that's what it boils down to, the intentions of the game aren't bad.. It's an interesting concept to explore but why in this universe, why with these characters. You are built up to love these 2 in game 1, become invested. And in game 2 they both meet devastating ends. Joel beaten to death in a gruesome way and ellie completely mentally torn down brick by brick, physically mutilated. And it just doesn't swing home because of it.. The story doesn't bring satisfaction due to a combination of horror (for horrors sake) and a last act that is so contrived, nonsensical and flat out annoying. I want to love the game, and in all fairness, this game doesn't deserve the rating it gets on here at all, but a game that leans on narrative has to make sure that the narrative pays off... And it just does t. Best moment would be the when you face Tommy and he nearly kills us. Loved it. Rooted for him.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is somewhat opposite of the first in terms of momentum. While the first builds up tension, emotional moments and ends in a huge climatic sequence, the part 2 builds up momentum up to the middle of the game, when you play Abby. From then on, it feels an unnecessary addition, as if the producers needed to justify the death of Joel. Joel had lots of reasons to die, and no less in a horrible way, so the idea to emphasize Abby's story feels kinda bloated.
On top of that, the final sequence is so utterly absurd - somewhat Die Hard vs Rocky - that it becomes a parody.

The game could have been great, even with Joel's death at the beginning, but the producers wanted to create a convoluted story with the idea that "nobody is truly bad/good", which is fundamentally wrong and childish.

Gameplay is good, graphics are good, sound is really good.

But the story, lost me halfway through and I could not get back to the tension building of the first half.

Instead it turned out to be a pandering piece of media that I can't in good conscience rate higher. Deaths are inevitable but the meaninglessness of killing of the main protagonist of the first game really drives the point home that the writers do not care about the fan base. While the graphics are beautiful, and the combat much better than the first game, I can't help but hate the story. It just doesn't make sense, and in the end it's a series of pointless events that I have a hard time believing anyone would actually make. The game ended, and I felt that I had wasted the last 25 hours. I feel that the character of Abby was brought into the story in the worst possible way, and when your (nearly) first encounter with a new character is witnessing them commit a truly heinous act, you can't realistically expect from that point on that anything you present to try and show the "good side" of that character will have any meaningful effect. If we are introduced to a character as a monster, no amount of backstory or "point of view" storytelling will sway that initial impression. I also disliked how the events of the beginning of the game changed Ellie, she's much colder and cynical than she was in the first game, and her dynamic with Joel was one of my favorite aspects of that game. This sequel is also just too dark, there is no (or very very little) lightness in any of the storytelling or dialogue, and there's no balance. It's a shame, because aside from the storytelling every other aspect of this game is gorgeous and brilliant. Sad. Expand

The most interesting thing is that everything in the first has improved in the second! One more point for dubbing, as always too much show, even I like it in English with subtitles and I'm playing dubbed! The events were very well thought out and with good reason! That is the impact they really wanted to make. Small, more graphic details like moving the grass a bit weird, and the main characters getting run over in some places gets on the negative side. It's the year 2020, and you can't believe a word the critics say anymore, if you ever truly could.

This is a game in which the creator and director of the series Neil Druckmann introduces a brand new, preposterously muscular female main character, who destroys the original game's story while Neil's self-insert spits on its corpse. And even though Sony censors the slightest half-nudity in every other game imaginable, we get to see a graphic sex scene involving this new TLOU2 protagonist - but it's not the kind of sex scene anyone would ever want to watch. Which is why it gets a pass, I'm sure.

It all feels similar to what Neil did with the Uncharted series after he forced that series's creator, veteran female game developer Amy Hennig, out of the company, because he's such a self-proclaimed feminist don't you see. Nothing can get in the way of Neil and his faux-progressive agenda, even if he has to break the backs of all the famously overworked employees at his stolen company, Naughty Dog. He even inserted himself as a "trading card" you can find in TLOU2, in which his comic book character "Dr. Uckmann" is described as a super genius (10/10 intellect score) and leader of the "New Dogs." Which really just says it all right there.

The "game" itself is just a typical modern walking simulator shoved in between ELEVEN HOURS of cutscenes. In which the player is forced to kill people and animals and then made to feel bad for doing so, even though you had no choice, because there's no real player agency in this "game." Remember when video games used to be fun? Oh, I forgot, Neil literally said he and the "New Dogs" never use that word. Yes, seriously. Look it up.

Unbelievable. Please don't buy this game.
