I loved Last of Us 1, but Last of Us 2 was very interesting to play and not in a positive way. I was seriously enjoying the story about Joel's death and Ellie trying to avenge his death, and Ellie's romance on the side. It could have been one of the best games ever.

Unfortunately, towards the end, I was forced to play as Abby. I really liked Joel as a character, and when Abby killed him, I, of course, developed a serious dislike for Abby. Furthermore, Abby is just a pissed-off, unlikable character in general. Thus, I really didn't want to play as Abby and found myself just letting zombies kill me because I wanted to return to playing as Ellie, and it was more enjoyable to watch her die than to try to help her survive.
I tried to play it out as Abby, hoping it would return to Ellie at any moment, but hours went by, and it still made me play as Abby until eventually I just said, "Screw it. I'm not enjoying this game at all, and I stopped playing altogether. I've played almost every rpg there is, and there is only one other game I have stopped playing halfway through. Thus, Last of Us 2 is one of the only games I rate as a 0 out of 10 since it was so unenjoyable that I didn't even finish it. The lesson here is NEVER FORCE THE PLAYER TO PLAY AS AN UNLIKABLE ANTAGONSIST, PLEASE.
After, being so disappointed with Part 2, I don't recommend either of these games.

Literally the most overhyped hot garbage I've ever had the displeasure of witnessing and I thought the first game was pretty good. It's honestly amazing how it went south so quickly and became such a dumpster fire heap of actual trash. Don't waste your time, you'd have more fun giving yourself a lobotomy.

Neil druckman if you want us to get revenge let us get our revenge there is a mindset that chracters have in the first game but 2nd game is not loyal to that as we know Joel and Tommy are real badass survivours from the first game but they get ambushed like idiots I dont even want to talk about SJWs it's another point that I dont want to write here The game starts with Joel's death from the abbys group and want to get revenge for Joel we kill everyone and when wwe face abby game goes on abby sight before 4 years is that a joke you are making everything to make abby a Main enemy then you are making her a Protaganist that I hate play with Than we beat ellie with abby :!!! that's realy disgusting after all that time when ellie come all way to get revenge she decides to forgive so I wanna ask what was all that for why did you lost all of that great potential of that game and betrayed the story of Ellie and Joel

The best chracter that I really liked in the game was Tommy I wish we take the revenge of Joel with his little brother Tommy the scene which he killed manny with sniper was really amazing he reminded a miller's power and badass moments the amazing moments in the game was absolutely Tommy scenes hunting abby and Manny + Joel and Ellie's moments.. İt was a game I like but the storyline realy upset me so My score is 2 and it's for the Engineers (Even you make protaganist The TOMMY and we take the revenge of Joel's that will be a game but you have really screwed up the story that's what I can say if we get killed by the people's son's or daugter's we will be the most wanted person in the whole the last of us universe with thousands kills really really so upset and sad):(.(

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I just gave up the game close to the end I think because it wasn't the experience I wanted from Naughty Dog this time around. I didn't want to play as Joel's killer, nor did playing as her for half game inspire any sort of player's guilt or empathy for her side of it. I loved Joel and Ellie and they loved each other which is why I rooted for them so much and in truth is what this whole story is about. Every story has two sides of course but up against Abby and fireflies it's an easy win for Joel and Ellie. There's clearly not much love in Abbys life, and her Dad had it coming for putting his hands on Ellie in the first place. Maybe that's all subjective but anyone can see all the issues TLOU deals with has everything to do with how people deal with each other. Had they sacrificed Ellie, there just would have been more conflict over the vaccine. The conflicts between the Seraphites and WLF are proof of this. Plus zero guarantee sacrificing Ellie would lead to anything.

Anyway, I only paid 9.99 for it so I don't feel too let down. But I will just say that this was an absolute farcry from Part One. And I think people who loved it should avoid it. Maybe this type of narrative will work better for the tv show. And I'm open to Part 3 if it's a thing being an improvement on this.

All the story is understood after 2h in the game and when you dive a little into characters perspective, history and minds, you'll figure out they are no longer who they used to be, making senseless choices that are way off from what they used to be from the first game. They even modificate things in TLOU 1 remake for the plot to have more sense in this useless sequel. Even using the word "sequel" is not right, it's more like a bad spin-off, they even used fake commercials to trick the player into buying this game. I regret spending my money, and my time on this ego-trip from the writter, who believe he's the only one creator of TLOU franchise. And we are lucky he's not, because TLOU 1 is a great piece of art. This is just a constant disapointment, easy and lazy storytelling, bad characters development, bad pacing, bad sequences, I mean, how can a flashback into a flashback can be consider a great "storytelling" ?

Great respect to the devs though, that made great graphics, that might be the best on PS4 that I've played. Gameplay got no real new interesting features, just melee combat feels better.
I feel a little diaspointed with the OST as I expected more from Gustavo Santaolalla, who made a better OST in the first one. Thanks to him, the first opus had a real identity, here it feels just okay. Nothing to be rememered.
At the end, everything in this game feels so enforced that it becomes funny.

It’s bigger, crisper and stunningly well realised and fully immersive as a result. The music and understated acting captures the tone of the original and whilst the story will come down to personal preference, the characters are naturally diverse without feeling forced and are well animated. From a technical point of the view the game is a masterpiece.

The story itself is very dark and violent and forces you to change your perspective throughout and your ability to get on board with this and understand what’s being asked you may affect your overall enjoyment. I’m personally on board with most of the creative choices they made here but I do think structurally the way they got there occasionally doesn’t land as well as it could. As a result the games structure is both a strength and also biggest weakness.

Part II is an action adventure with stealth elements. If you’ve played the first game then this won’t be new to you and you know what to expect. Moments of quiet, character driven exploration can give way to stealth encounters, fire fights or even chase sequences. The gorgeous visuals, sound effects and lack of music often makes this an extremely tense and nerve shredding experience and some of the action set pieces can feel appropriately chaotic. The game is also very cinematic and in this regard is very much equal with its predecessor as the pinnacle of cinematic video gaming. Whilst the game generally isn’t open world you do have the option to explore the areas around you and frankly exploration is key as your run through will benefit as you scavenge supplies and craft weapons and other support items. If there’s a criticism to be had with some of the gameplay elements then it would be that the camera doesn’t always position itself right especially in stealth encounters.

Overall this is an impressive continuation from the Last of Us. A technical masterpiece for me no question and whilst structurally it doesn’t land every note, the story lands many notes that I am fully on board with an applaud. The graphics, sound design and gameplay makes this one of the most immersive video gaming experiences I’ve ever had. Be mindful of the hordes of fake negative reviews but also be careful for the handful of fake positive reviews. For me this is definitely a game worth experiencing.

Enjoy a lot of the game, looks fantastic but had a few unexplained AI moments (not uncommon in most games to be fair) but the kicker is the storyline, I just really dislike the changes to the characters, there's also a weird disconnect between how they act and then specific cut scenes.

I play slower than most people and wasn't in a rush to complete it since I'd heard about the ending anyway. Did not expect it to be quite as poorly finished as that though. What a way to kill off what could have been a great series of 3-4 games. I've no interest in a sequel at this point.

Story? Hmm... Not going to dump any spoilers on here but what a massive disappointment that was, Ellie acting out of character, various plot-holes and a very unsatisfactory ending.
Gameplay is very similar to the first one minus the environment puzzles, in that it's extremely shallow with bland "stealth" mechanics attached.

I would recommend you spend your hard earned cash else-where, preferably into Cyberpunk 2077, or Vampire Bloodlines 2 at the end of the year, while the game is certainly not a "0" it's most CERTAINLY not a 10/10, or a 100/100 (This is what's considered a perfect game from the media... yeah, if you believe that then I got a bridge to sell you).

Combat is very well polished and enemy AI is some of the best I've seen for stealth-type games. The last good thing I will say is that the acting is well done with the material they had to work with.

That's where all my good things end. I think Naughty Dog was successful in that I felt hate, and I felt what Ellie was feeling: to be emotionally exhausted. The problem? The whole experience was not worth it in the end. They risked a lot in this game, and in my optinion it did not pay off. i enjoyed Ellie at first, but they wrote her into a tragic trope. Always getting beat down, always making the wrong decisions, and generally just kind of acting dumb. Her story arc was narrow and felt lacking in the end. Despite all other achievements, story mattered most and it was not good or satisfying.

Our other new character Abby, is also not very interesting. She shows no remorse for her actions early in the story and generally seems to not care all that much about her friends. They try to make you like her, but it's all surface level. There's no real depth to her and I didn't feel like she was relatable. Near the end of the game, they have essentially morphed Abby into Joel 2.0 and it didn't feel earned.

I wanted to love this game, and I struggled for literally weeks after beating to try and find some redeeming quality to make myself like it. I couldn't. In the end i just questioned the point, and wish with all my heart that it would have been different.

The Last of Us Part 2 is a hugely ambitious game, and as we’ve come to expect from Naughty Dog, it both looks fantastic and features top notch voice acting. The game is also full of truly intense encounters and set pieces, making for numerous exhilarating moments throughout. All this combines to make for a great video game, but it’s not without its issues.

First of all the game is a good five hours too long, and this could easily have been trimmed from the middle of the game without losing anything of note. For me personally however the biggest issue is the complete disconnect between the gameplay and the message the developers seem intent on telling through the narrative. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s great to see writers attempting something more interesting than ‘good guys Vs bad guys’, but when you’re killing upwards of a hundred people throughout the course of the game (and it’s undeniably fun to do so!) it’s hard to take the messages about violence and revenge seriously. This issue is further magnified by the fact that the player isn’t allowed any choice as to how the story plays out, and as both Ellie and Abby, I often found myself having to carry out actions I simply didn’t want to. The final scene on the beach in particularly just left me feeling uncomfortable…

So, after all the hype and controversy we’re left with a fantastic video game that just bit off a little more than it (or perhaps any AAA video game) could chew in terms of storytelling.

Awesome game. I was first put off by Abby, but the integration of different characters meant that they grew on me and in the end I cared about all of them. The game is long, full of incredible detail and is challenging enought to keep you on your toes. Apart from the slower start, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Gameplay and Graphics are decent but that’s all this game offers.

Guns, upgrades, and enemies are all put together very well. It’s enjoyable to find the upgrades and parts needed to make your weapons better and more efficient. Graphics are great, some of the best on PS4.

Storyline isn’t well thought out at all. The infected aren’t even necessary to the storyline. They are just a means to tell a silly story, of two people who want to kill each other. It’s easy to care for Ellie, and see her side of all of it.

Abbys story could have been done well. It could’ve been interesting, and they could have made a game that created an environment where you cared for the character and what happens to them. But they failed at every turn. They waited for 50% of the game to be over to even teach you anything about the character.

I played the game a very long time after the hype died down. I came to learn that many many others feel they ruined the sequel to the original, and I have to agree.

The story doesn’t hold a candle to the original. They lost the magic that made the original story so gripping and entertaining. If this game was purely about Ellie, Dina, and Jesse I would’ve really enjoyed it. If the scars were somehow a common enemy, that made you have to work with Abby at some point, only to get to decide whether she lives or dies later, it would’ve been incredible.

More choices should’ve been in the players hand. They aren’t being brave by telling the story they did, but lazy. This game reminded me of all of the disappointment the last couple of years embodied, from The Walking Dead Finale, to the Game of Thrones Finale, Cyberpunk 2077s launch, and more.

Hopefully 2021 brings better entertainment, because 2020 carried a lot of bad, including the games released, such as this one.

Just finished the game last night. Took me 25hrs...
Wow, what a terrible ending. It honestly felt like it went on forever and just wouldn't end?

    Good parts
    1. Graphics are amazing and best on any console.
    2. Voice acting/Cute scenes best in the business
    3. Combat is so much fun
    4. Lots of cool moments that was so intense and brutal.
    5. Executions are super satisfying.
    6. Gunplay is enjoyable for the most part.
    7. New character Jesse was awesome! And he just gets ****ed up way too easily.
    8. Flashback scenes with Joel were amazing. Just made me want him back even more.
    Bad/Ok
    1. Grinding all game long for upgrades was such a hassle, probably why It took me 25hrs to complete.
    2. The story was all over the place.
Why did they kill of Joel so early in the game? And make me want to hate Abby straight away. Then try so hard to make us like her? She was alright but the way it happened was just terrible.
    3. Her crew were scumbags and cheaters and not likeable.
    4. Ellie and Dina were ok, but their story was average?
So much plot holes it was just bad writing.
    5. Joel and his brother being absolute dumbarses with complete strangers? Was so annoying and could have been executed way better.
    6. New enemy types, Barely any really?
    7. Barely any Innovations for a sequel
    8. Game length
First time in a long time. I wanted the game to end, and I still had 5 hrs before I was finished with the game?
    9. Some boring dialogue and dragged out scenes and action set scenes.
    10. The ending was terrible and was such a waste of time and made you go through it twice? Really dragged and dragged.
Abby was ok and I was hellbent to make her pay.
But by the end, they just made me not really care for anybody at the end. Felt like they forced me to like her. By making her OP and give her all the best parts in the game and weapons and gadgets.
So sad when this was supposed to be an amazing franchise that could keep pumping out amazing games. But they stuffed it up. I do not want a new one or care now.
Game of Thrones last season all over again.

I wish I could say it was a solid game but in my opinion it wasn't. sex scenes nobody asked for and slew of questionable design tactics. characters are wildly inconsistent to say the least. They go from cautious and crafty to bumbling amateurs when the plot calls for it. If you ever seen Walking Dead (later seasons) then you've seen this game down to the end-of-the-world crazy religious group. The script is constantly trying really hard for those hard shock moments but they are rarely earned. There are "rivalries" that hardly make any sense in a apocalypse scenario wrapped in paper thin illogical revenge plot. Cartoonish decision making of the "realistic" characters are abound. A pregnant lady actively deciding to enter a combat zone is the one of MANY examples that come to mind.
Now the meat of the story is Abby's revenge plot. Imagine if every character held onto a grudge like this in a apocalypse scenario while they systematically ignore years of death around them not related to their trauma; that's Abby. Then convincing several people who hardly like her to go on a suicide mission across a frozen wasteland just on a rumor. Let's not forget the first TLoU ENTIRE plot was a Plot A to Plot B where MANY people died. This should help the gravity of the situation sink in. NOPE, TLoU2 just glosses over the entire journey with a "and they made it to destination unscathed" said in Morgan Freeman's voice...not once but multiple times through the plot! It's so jarring for a game that prides itself on realism and then says "then Mel magically appears out of door 2".

Here's the good. if you can ignore the story there are several intense fight scenes that truly bring the game alive. There is an underground battle with a baddy that I'm sure is one of the best in the game. The environments and scenery are amazing to say the least and do deserve some credit. These are some of the things that do prop the game up. More of this, less of virtue signaling please.

I had strayed from gaming until Covid had relegated people to their houses and I decided to pick this one up. I loved it and felt that it is the first game that truly blurred the line between a video game and an interactive movie. Often times I had taken the point of view that cut scenes detracted from a gaming experience and took away too much time that I would rather be immersed in action. I found myself truly engrossed in this title from beginning to end. I didn't want to put it down. Beautiful graphics, great story, excellent game play, very polished presentation. The Last of Us Part II literally checks all of the boxes. I understand that it was review bombed by those that didn't like the way it handled the main characters that they had grown to love from the first title. Those reviews are completely off base, but to each his own. If you haven't played this and see it sitting in the bargain bin at your local store it is well worth the purchase. A true thrill ride from beginning to end, a video game masterpiece. Same thing with mantling right next to them. Also, the enemies flank, but often into spots where they are easy headshots. This stuff alone ruined the gameplay immersion for me and I rarely died. The only part of the game that I had a little trouble with was the Ellie boss fight because of BS such as Ellie stopping her plant mine animation and have her immediately shoot without it doing the proper amount of frames. I know this is nitpicks, but it just wasn’t a great gameplay experience. And the atmosphere and exploration sucked. The puzzles were like PS1 level with the solutions in the same room or way too straight forward. Map interaction was also very limited and obvious. The game had no atmosphere and just feels so bland at points even if it’s a “pretty game”. Honestly, many games are good looking in 2020 and I was not impressed. All of these things just made this game a chore on top of all the terrible decisions to the plot. If the gameplay was as good as people claimed it could have maybe made up for a terrible story, but it did not. Expand

Like its predecessor, it was released on the final leg of the console and here, Naughty Dog pulls all the stops: stupendous graphics, great production values and updated game play mechanics. Obviously, it's a must have yet be warned, LOU 2 approaches the apocalypse in a very dour and realistic manner, and it is not a feel good game in any way. Ideally, I look forward to playing video games, this was a game that felt like an uphill battle to finish. There were a couple of stand-out sequences throughout the adventure, but there wasn't one character, I really liked or cared about in this game.... yes... that's even true of Ellie. Moving on to the graphics, of course, Naughty Dog knocks it out of the park here! The graphics are outstanding! But the story..... oh man :-( So, why am I giving this game a 7? Because it made me feel things. It made me angry, frustrated, scared... it made me feel things in a AAA game, I haven't felt before and the graphics and game play, are excellent. One last thought I realized today as I was playing "Ghost of Tsushima." For me, TLOU2 was not fun! Not at all. It was a chore to finish and I had to force myself through it. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved everything about the original Last Of Us. So it makes me really sad to say that Part II was a big disappointment.

The story is a waste of potential and a pretentious yet incompetent mess. Ellie and Joel are great characters and their relationship was the soul of the series. There were a lot of interesting places that relationship could have gone. Instead, it is all discarded in return for a revenge plot, when Joel is killed at the start of the game. The trade is not at all worth it, as the resulting story is both uninteresting and ludicrous.

I'd like to make a brief aside here to mention that the developer released a trailer in which Joel effectively tells Ellie that he will be accompanying her through the game. This turned out to be a fake scene; in the actual game, there's another character in Joel's place. This was essentially an attempt to deceive the customer, and I don't think it's acceptable.

A significant amount of time is also spent playing as Joel's killer, Abbie, in a ham-fisted attempt to tell a story about empathy. While such a story may have worked in a medium such as film, in the medium of video games, in which the player is an active participant, it is totally broken; the player is eventually forced to try to kill Ellie, which obviously they don't actually want to do, and then a few hours later we're forced to try to kill Abbie, as if we've also suddenly forgotten the chunk of the game getting to know her. It actively disengages the player. Aside from these major structural flaws, the new characters are generally pretty dull, and the incidental story -- a city's draconian government is overthrown by the populace, who descend into tribal warfare -- is just a stale rehash of the first game.

I really enjoyed the gameplay of the original. This sequel is very similar, with a handful of new additions -- in particular, more involved melee, a few new weapons and a few new enemies. The combat is still solid and there are some great set pieces. But this is a long game, and there is just not enough innovation or variation here; I was surprised to find myself becoming bored long before the game ended. The scavenging in particular starts to feel like a real chore, and actually an encumbrance upon the act of getting from A to B, which is the majority of the gameplay. Environmental puzzles would have really helped, and the ones that are in the game are satisfying, but they are few and far between.

On a technical level the visuals are excellent. However, the vast bulk of the game is spent in the city of Seattle. This means there just isn't the scope to keep the game visually creative. It's also too similar in locations to the original game. Schools, hospitals, hotels, city streets and the suburbs... we've seen most of it before. The animation it must be said is best in class, although not quite the technical marvel shown in the 2018 trailer. And a special mention has to be made of the nice detail of enemies calling each other by name, which really adds a layer of believability.

Finally, the musical score, which was so strong in the first game, is also a surprising let down; in fact it is barely present.

Overall, I had a really mixed experience played this game. On the whole I can't really say that I enjoyed it. The developers might argue that that's not the point. I disagree. I'm not talking of enjoyment in the simplistic sense of having "fun". A tragedy, well-crafted, is still "enjoyable" in the deeper sense of the word. I don't think this game was well-crafted. I think it made a number of serious errors which led to it falling far short of its potential, and probably killing off my interest in the future of this series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved this game. I would rate this game a 10, a 10 does not mean a perfect game. When the credits rolled, I clapped, but then stopped because I realized it was stupid (lol). Then i went to the internet, and It was so overwhelmingly negative, I was questioning If we just played the same game. But it's all a matter of perspective. How I feel/think/interpret is completely different from others. I'm still trying to learn to be ok with the hate this game gets, but to me it's become one of my favorite game of all time.

    Pros:
+ Overall gameplay - vastly improved over the original, feels clunky at first.. but you quickly adjust to it.

    + Graphics/ atmosphere/ sound/level design - a technical masterpiece.

+ Enemy A.I - One of the best and most dynamic enemies I've ever played against.

+ Ellie/ Abbie - both were interesting/ had interesting campaigns. Both were dynamic and unpredictable.

+ Overall story - It was good, without spoiling anything.. one of the most memorable endings.

+ Overall journey- A rollercoaster, that can't be explained unless you get on it. I laughed, almost cried, felt happy, genuinely smiled, felt scared, etc.

    So-So:

    * some side characters were under developed and felt unconsequential

    * They really did Joel dirty here. how it happened (the actual act). I'm ok with why it happened.

    Cons:

    - No multiplayer ( they stated no mp, but it's still my favorite mp).. will wait patiently for factions 2.

    - A few pacing issues ( This game had just as much pacing issues as the first game, but this game is also 10 hours longer). I think there were only 4 sections of the game I dreaded.

    - Very sad game.

To end, no game has me feel so many ranges of emotions in 30 hours. I loved it. The gameplay is dynamic, and always throws something new at you, it never feels stale. The story makes you feel for both sides, and it worked for me by the end. I didn't want ellie to kill abby, even though I cared less about abby even half way through her campaign. It just wasn't worth it in the end. Abby and lev also reminded me of joel and ellie. Basically I empathized with both ellie and abby. ND let us beat the **** out of abby in the end, I was satisfied, and would've been even if I didn't get to. I can honestly say this will be a divisive game, a lot of people will hate it.. but I can confidently defend this game because of MY experience. Masterpiece.

Oh yeah, I guess not being bias towards LBGT, not knowing who anita sarkeshian is, or caring about political agendas probably helped me enjoyed this game more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the first game. The sequel feels forced and the ending is quite disappointing. Such a long game and after you finish the game and contemplate what you have played, it comes to this: Ellie seeks revenge, travels across whole continent, and it end up not getting her revenge. If i could have all the hours back, I would gladly take it. Expand

I'm gonna try an elaborate without spoiling it, for me there is a certain dislikeable character that is the main focus for a third of the game, given the first half the game doesn't portray this character in a good light, it's an annoying and tedious diversion from the main plot, maybe if these bits were played 1st before revealling what happens arround hour 2, it would be more enjoyable to play.

The game is awesome. But for me it wasn't as impactful as the Last of Us 1, or Uncharted 4, or even the latest Uncharted DLC. Weirdly it doesn't look as good as Uncharted 4. And the story.. it's really great, but unnecessarily long, and unrewarding for a player who put such effort to beat the game.

    A SPOILT MASTERPIECE

After 34 hours of gametime I completed the game, having explored plentifully in search of collectibles and resources and soaked up all the cutscenes. Let me start by saying this is a great game, despite the leaks and the childish review bombing, this game is great.... however it isn’t perfect. So lets begin:

Firstly, the graphics are amazing probably as good as or better than anything else we’ve seen on PS4. Whether it’s the lighting or the detailed scenery or how characters look when its raining etc. It just looks stunning. The facial animations of characters is really on point too smirks, smiles, grimaces all seem to be made at the right time and look really realistic.

The next thing I want to point out as a positive is the combat. It builds on from the solid foundations of the first game but goes further. The new weapons are nice, the way you can crawl around in the grass in stealth and be a silent hunter is cool and the way in which we can also get into brutal close quarters combat, dodging and then striking with brutal ferocity.

Another thing I loved is the level of suspense during many parts of the game, navigating dark corridors, trying to stock up and preserve ammo for when that next infected jumps out the wall and makes your heart start racing. For me that’s one of the best parts of the game and I’m sure on the higher difficulties proves really challenging and entertaining.

Finally, one of the really good things about the game is the cinematics. I always found them welcome and worked well with adding to the story. Also I’m not sure if they’re classed as cinematics as such but parts outside or normal gameplay, like a certain car chase/escape had an uncharted-like feel, it was really intense and worked well. QTE’s were also used well in situations like grappling with infected or trying to escape through doors, they added to the drama nicely.

Now, onto the negative and it’s a pretty major one. The storyline, particularly in the second half of the game, isn’t up to scratch. One of the issues I had to begin with was due to the developers choosing to jump around in time (sometimes by a day or sometimes way longer using flashbacks). I struggled to keep focus on what was happening. Secondly, I felt that despite new characters & groups of people emerging, these weren’t really used to develop the story and ended up feeling like filler. I was anticipating things that might happen and they never did. It became apparent to me as the game progressed it was heading down a very narrow tunnel, limiting itself to its core theme of revenge/vengeance. Also travelling to my next destination started to feel a little more tedious, probably because I was becoming increasingly desperate for parts of the plot to come together to pave the way for a new direction... and they never did. Ultimately as the final scenes played out, I felt very little, almost empty, I thought to myself “oh is that it”. I felt very detached from the main characters. I felt so much more could have been done. What was I meant to think and feel? It was a dissatisfying end to a game that looks and plays so damn well. Worth playing for sure because everyone is gonna interpret the story differently and the rest of the game is close to perfect. It’s an unusual game to review, but ultimately it’s a spoilt masterpiece. 7.5/10

The Last Of Us II is a masterpiece and one of the best games of this generation. I wasn't a fan of the first one but this one really blew me away in all aspects of its design. I wasn't a fan of the first one but this one really blew me away in all aspects of its design. It's hard to put into words all of the amazing aspects of this game because there are so many. Being a fan of zombie games, I felt this was one of the best zombie games I've played and definitely the best dystopian pandemic game I've played. All aspects of the game flow together so well to make an incredibly realistic and heartfelt experience. The gameplay and plot have a high level of contrast between calm, peaceful moments and highly intense, realistic shootouts between other survivors and infected. Because of this contrast, it makes the intensity even more jarring when it does ramp up. Likewise, when it slows down, you really appreciate the calmness and don't find it to be boring. The technical aspects of the game were superb and made it feel like a PS5 generation game. The visuals, the amount of detail, the lush environments, the water effects, the blades of grass, the great frame-rate, fast start up after death, the seamless transitions between cinematics and gameplay, and the seamless transitions between each large area of the game make this game a technical marvel as well as a visual marvel. The sound design is masterclass with certain music and sound cues at just the right time to highlight cinematic moments, the terrifying cries of infected, changes in weather, and the delivery of npc dialogue. The enemy AI is also top of its class with enemies acting very realistic and flanking you, or throwing explosive projectiles at you and working together to draw you out. The overall plot/story is very jarring and gives you a deep sense of grief, loss, tragedy, anger, sadness, hopeless, and helplessness which at first makes you question the quality of the game and message. The second time experiencing the narrative/plot, I appreciated it a lot more for what it was trying to convey and I think it nailed it. Without giving anything away, I think it really makes you think and feel strongly about giving into intense emotions and the outcomes of those emotions if acted upon. It may not be comfortable, full-filling, or enjoyable, but that is the point. And I think by designing the game like this, it makes the game more realistic and not just a simple black and white tale of vengeance and good versus evil. We get to see the overall picture to why things happened the way they did and not just a one sided view through the protagonist's view. The Last Of Us II is not an easy game to play. It's a game that challenges you in many different ways whether its through its gameplay, setting, characters, or in its narrative. Not everyone will appreciate it for this reason, but if you are looking for an experience that will challenge your view of right and wrong, question your intense emotions, and make you think/feel outside your own perspective, then this is one of those games that will make you do so. As well as transport you to a cruel and unforgiving world where humans act like wild animals and survival and protecting loved one's is everyone's top priority no matter what cost and loss of human civility. What started out as disappointing for me with the way Joel was handled and his demise, came round full circle at the end and left me feeling sad but pleased with how the story rounded out. This game is an emotional rollercoaster, there really is no other way to describe it and only at the end do you get the full picture. It's method of storytelling is creative, captivating and haunting all at the same time. The world Naughty Dog have created feels so real and terrifying. I finished wanting more, the way any great story should. I was hoping for a happy end for Ellie, I hope she returns to Jackson and finds what she is looking for. I would love a third game surrounding Abby and Lev now, I would like to see what happens next for them. Expand

And the main point isn't the one some others are referring to, that violence begets violence or that revenge isn't healthy - plenty of other stories have already done that. It's main point, imho, is that there aren't any good guys or bad guys.
I am hoping the combat is improved by some patches though.

    Graphics 10/10

    - I played the last of us 2 to play as Ellie, the Ellie portion of the game is fantastic and just when you are getting into it, you are then made to play as Abby.

    - I do not understand why Naughty Dog thought it would be a good idea to make you play half of the game as a character you severely dislike from the start.

A multiplayer portion of the game would have made the game more valuable and increased replay value.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is a monumental achievement in the technical sense. This level of polish really defines the world we left on an impactful moment 7 years ago. The detail is astounding and exploring Seattle was breathtaking in the opening hours of the game. I'm just sad that Naughty Dog didn't run with this structure and allowed you to explore more and let the player decide when to move towards those story beat areas, and move the chains forward in the narrative.

Gameplay was expanded upon offering a nice mix of action/stealth/ and exploration. I just wish they had incorporated more of the grappling hook or other mechanics to add more diversity in the exploration. I loved the upgrade system and how the guns changed as you swapped stocks or other parts over time. The weapons felt weighty and I enjoyed how Abby and Ellie played very differently. Ellie leaning more into the stealth with her switchblade and Abby be more cable physically.

Unfortunately, the narrative falls short and you're never given much reason to care for many of the new characters with a few exceptions like Owen and Jesse. While Owen may not be a fan favorite I felt his struggles and inner turmoil made him one of the few characters and in spite of some rather poor love life choices he felt the most real of the group from Seattle at least to me.

Meanwhile, being one-half of our protagonists, Abby never really shined for me. I felt her portion of the narrative could have been cleaner and first impressions are hard to overcome. After Joel saving her, she never really took the time to rethink her decision nor reconsider what she was doing as Ellie screamed and pleaded for her to stop. Only after it was done did she begin to see her actions in a new light and began trying to balance her ledger with a little bit of good. Overall, I always felt that Joel carried the weight/burden of his prior actions - I just never felt Abby fully understood what she did or really regretted what she gave up in pursuit of revenge, She didn't understand the psychological harm she inflicted on Ellie nor did she ever ask for forgiveness which I felt could have been impactful as she loaded into the boat with Lev. It was left up to Ellie to just let go of hate for someone who really didn't seem to care how she harmed Ellie at the start of their journey.

This arc could have been structurally cleaner and spending time with the gang from Seattle would have made their mission more understandable or relatable. I do applaud Naughty Dog for taking a risky narrative but the gamble just doesn't pay off in my opinion. Abby, Mel, and more could have been so much more. At the end of it all, it didn't teach me any new lessons that I haven't already considered or learned, it just felt for nothing.

In addition, the narrative felt padded as that a natural ending point would have been the tense showdown at the theatre but the last section of Santa Barbara felt unneeded.

Overall, Naughty Dog swung for the moon but still managed to land among the stars. The game is beautiful, the gameplay was expanded, but the narrative left me wanting and while it may connect with some it just wasn't for me. Unfortunately, with such a heavily story-driven game most of the points should come from the narrative regardless of technical achievements. Thus I have to land on a 5 out of 10.

It's a brutal game. It's tough in many different ways. But I am blown away at what a great job the entire team at Naughty Dog did with this sequel. The story retroactively makes the first game an even stronger title, because the story of the two of them is one of the strongest narratives in gaming history. An absolute masterpiece.
