The fighting feels dated at this point but some people might be wishing for that system to stay as it is. The problem is with story writing. I have no idea why they would try to make a game with gritty realism when the people that wrote the story feel so incredibly detached from reality. Basic human instincts and principles are broken to keep up an extremely hollow story about issues they have no real concept of. The game succeeds in subverting expectations but in the worst ways possible. If I could go back in time and avoid the game I most definitely would as even in the ending there was nothing else but disappointment. If you are just hoping for a satisfying resolution of the Ellie vs Abby story then just stop playing and save yourself the headache.… Expand

    The first last of us was both a brilliant game and a story. Watching a play through of it on YouTube was the main reason I bought a ps4. And I was looking forward to say goodbye to my old machine playing what I thought to be a great new game. I even took a vacation from my work at home job to finish it in one go. This is GoT season 8 situation all over again. Characters are behaving noting like themselves. Plot holes are in every corner. Noting in the story makes any sense. Writer is obbsosed with trying to teach us a lesson but doing a miserable job of it. This is a dumpster fire of a story. And the story is the main thing that attracted to me to these games in the first place. So graphics and gameplay alone can't cover up my displeasure about it. In the end I'm very sad that I wasted my time with this. And I'm very sad another writer wich has no love or respect for his characters ruined a story for us fans and all other people who worked very hard to create this game.… Expand

    In the end, it doesn't matter if the graphics are a little better, the game play, and mechanics, etc. because the sole story of this crap COMPLETELY ruins the experience.

    Joel didn't deserve this. The FANS didn't deserve this.

    Beautiful graphics/animation. Boring, over-the-top gratuitous gore. Unnecessary representation crap bogs down the mood of an already dark story. What was the point of the Joel storyline? Wtf. Absolutely regret spending anything on this one. Stay far, far away from this one. This really makes the case for an ability to 'trade' digital copies.

Good ol' TLoU gameplay and shooting, still the same but ok. All the cool undead monsters, ok. The soundtracks, just wow. But now tell me HOW it is ok to destroy loved characters like that, and to force players to play as a character they HATE (because yes, everyone who has a brain hates Abby). 30 hours (7 years for 30 hours?) of pure pain, fighting Runners, Clickers and so on and so forth, using a detestably character, and while being brainwashed about lesbians and trans and other **** that no one would care about during a freakin Apocalypse. And everything just to wink at LGBTQWandGodknowswhat+ and snowflake's agenda, just to be praised by the media and by the critics... And for everyone who thinks that "the far right is "bombing" TLoU 2", that's complete bull****, it's just that they destroyed their own fan-base with that cringe dlc they call a game. It's not homophobic or transphobic to whish to play a sequel that does not try to denaturalize the main characters... a lost opportunity for a really good game, and that's truly a shame… Expand

    As a massive fan of the original, I've waited for this game for 7 years. The Last of Us Part II is a massive disappointment. The characters are at best forgettable, while many of them being downright awful. The story feels unmemorable in contrast to the first game. The ending feels bleak and pointless. I absolutely adore the first game and so so badly wish that I could have enjoyed the sequel. The original characters you knew from the previous game have completely changed and even go against what you would normally believe they would behave. I understand this game takes place a few years later, but in post apocalyptic world, wouldn't be realistic to their survival. What's more irritating is the constant forced face feeding of the underlying message within this game, which leaves a very sour and bitter taste in your mouth.

The game is also incredibly boring, me and mate got ready for an all nighter playing this and ended up going to bed after an hour.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. the last of us 2 has a bad story from the beginning of game play to the anti-climatic ending, and the thing that made me even sad about the game is the way they treated some characters, mostly Joel who was killed in the beginning of the game by a character who was supposed to be our new protagonist Abby, and to have him, a character that i loved in the first game to be killed and replaced by his killer was a horrible decision made by the writer.

    The story is beyond awful, new characters are empty, and not much improvement on game play (which can be expected as uncharteds haven't changed much). I don't mind you want to have politically correct content in the game, but I don't want it overflows everywhere. Good job to ruin your one of the best franchises.

However the story telling was ruined within the first hours when someone that impacted the game so much dies in the most honorable way. The people that argue was because of the LGBT environment being forced I do not agree with because it was not as bad as expected, but the storytelling in general was horrendous especially with the new character Abby. That part of the story i was happy about, the problem for me are the major components/twists. Joel, this nonsense Abby chick, just makes no sense to me. The context is SO much worse man, we have to play as the person that kills our favorite character???? my issues are with the "twists". Solo es buena la jugabilidad y ambientación la historia es de las peores que se han podido ver en un videojuego, no sólo por cargarse el primer juego con la muerte de Joel sino porque murió absurdamente y de la peor forma y lo mató el personaje más ridículo que se puede haber visto creado siguiendo la filosofía de una desarrolladora y un director nefasta, por la que una mujer que tiene por constitución natural es la de un hombre. Esta constitución solo es posible con una dieta y un entrenamiento específico, por una mutación genética, o siendo transgénero, pero si es una mujer biológicamente normal (sin ningún tipo de mutación) como han confirmado los desarrolladores es un personaje totalmente ridículo. No contentos con esto en la historia de supuesta venganza Ellie mata a varios del Grupo de Abby pero cuando te puede llegar el momento de hacerlo con Abby derrepente aprende la "lección" Y siente empatía mandestrozando el fin que tiene el juego. El juego más decepcionante de la historia. The Walking Dead ya tomó una dirección similar a esta cargando se a los personajes más importantes de la serie y casi se carga todo su fandom pero a diferencia de The last of Us supieron fregar con Rick lo que sería el equivalente a Joel e incluso consiguieron salvar la serie. Pero The Last of Us Parte 2 gracias a Neil Druckman y a su equipo ha sido destrozado y solo hay que ver la decepción por parte de todos los jugadores en la muerte de Joel (por ejemplo la de muchos streamers que reivindican de forma natural que no tenía que haber pasado y en cima tener que jugar con su asesina, os habéis lucido espero sinceramente que no volváis a dirigir ninguna franquicia de videojuegos realmente querida por los jugadores por que ya se os vió el plumero con Nadine en Uncharted 4, cuando no es para nada creíble que pegara tales papalizas a los hermanos Drake cuando son dos personas muy experimentadas en combate, destacando Nathan que se cargaba a todo dios y lo habéis rematado con The Last of Us Parte 2.… Expand

    They destroyed the Characters and Story so much, its laughable.
    They kill of the main character within 2 hours!! and let you play some random new character that you GOTTA HATE half of the game..
    Journey about Joel and Ellie? Not so much anymore. Plus the Story is just boring, boring, boring...

    I would've preferred if the developers left us at a cliff hanger forever. Abby would've died if there were an option for it. 7 years. I feel like the developers only catered to their own story instead of worrying about their fan bases opinion

    I am heartbroken and destroyed. I am a die hard PlayStation and Naughty Dog fan. I have both Uncharted and TLOU tattoos and I, as much as it pains me to say, hate this game. It makes me mad at the entire Sony and PlayStation brand. How did Jim Ryan, Evan Wells, Hurst, Layden, hear this story and not put the brakes on it? It’s very clear Druckmann needed Bruce Stanley. It’s like George Lucas unchecked, he can’t write at all. It’s like Star Wars The Phantom Menace all over again and shockingly much worse.

    I am so appalled and hurt by TLOU Part 2. I as a person who has owned every PlayStation, I want to throw my PS4 Pro out the window. I don’t want to but the only way I know how to show them how wrong this was is to speak with my wallet. I won’t buy a Naughty Dog game ever again. I don’t even want to get the PS5 now. I guess I am going to get an Xbox Series X now. I don’t want anything to do with PlayStation and naughty dog ever again. You don’t do this to your fans.     Absolute trash story...you can't make this stuff up. As a massive fan of the first installment, I just can't believe they went for this story. The graphics are incredible, the gameplay is smooth, but after looking at how things turned out in the story, I literally didn't feel like playing anymore. I got a physycal copy and I'm gonna sell it for half the price. This game isn't worth it.

    Played for 15 hours and as a fan of first episode, this story is really a trash. Gameplay wise isn't improved much since years ago. Frame rate dip also an issue.

    I didn't buy TLOU2 for its gameplay because I knew it was going to be like part1. I expected great graphics and sound effects because its a AAA title. I expected great music because that was achieved in part1. I didnt buy TLOU2 for its gameplay I bought it for its fantastic story telling that I expected like we got from TLOU1.

    The story was what made part 1 so special and in part 2, well..... The story forces unlikable characters down my throat. The game introduces 2 new characters Owen and Abby. Abby kills Joel shoots him in the leg and uses a golf club. Ellie wants revenge
    THEN OWEN HAS SEX WITH ABBY???
    Owen is the brother of Joel THE SAME CHARACTER ABBY KILLED
    And there is more garbage but IM DONE! JUST WATCH THE STORY BUT DON'T BUY THE GAME.
    Im mad the story makes NO freaking sense and it destroyed the TLOU franchise
    It threw the story through the 4th floor window and panders to LGBTQ community. If I recall correctly a certain dev was saying how we shouldn't sexualize females in games and then turns right around and sexualized men. The hypocrisy is astounding.

I watched Joel’s daughter die in his arms in The Last of Us and loved the relationship that grew between him and Ellie. I saw him grow as a person and while many of us didn’t necessarily agree with his decision at the end of The Last of Us, we understood it because he couldn’t see another daughter (figure) die. I would have accepted his death and Ellie becoming the main character, I have no issues with her sexuality, but to use him as a pawn and sacrifice him in this manner just for shock value was a slap in the face to all fans of the last of us. On top of that, I am forced to play as the character that kills him and then they try to convince me that she isn’t all that bad. Gameplay is amazing, but the storyline that drives the game makes it all not worth playing especially for it to end the way it does (absolute bulls**t). I can’t give this game a zero because of the graphics, world design, gameplay and hard work of the developers are all amazing; But the story was the main reason why people loved this series and now it’s ruined. I avoided all the spoilers and leaks and bought the game but now I regret it. Thank you Neil Drukmann & Anita Sarkeesian for robbing me of $60 and giving me a s**t story in return. This game and Anthem are the most disappointing gaming purchases I’ve ever made and I do not recommend either.… Expand

They managed to make the story of the first one all wrong by doing that, then they throw it at you saying that the person doing it in the second is the right one, and you still have to let it go without any choice in the end, at least something alternative could have been given to the consumer.

    The game and its history make no sense at all. And that has nothing to do with the character being LGBT or not. What can we say about a game that transforms the first and main character, into a silly person who easily believes in anyone? And also, what about a game that turns the main story of the infected, into a war of revenge that makes you kill 30 million people and in the end not to kill the only character you wanted to kill. You kill everyone, including all of her allies, except your own. You end up more **** up than the character that is your opponent, and that is extremely frustrating.    … Expand

I was so ready to play as Joel and Ellie once again with new characters alongside them in order to destroy what I thought would be resisting remnants of the fireflies.

    What I got was: Joel died too early (in my opinion shouldn't have died), playing as buff chick I did not care about, seeing Ellie in the end with no vengeance, having Tommy become some whiney inconsistent **** and have the only good new meaningful character Jesse get killed. Nice.

    Yes, the graphics were sick, awesome gameplay, fun new cinematics, new engine, smooth combat system and blah blah blah. But all I cared about was the story. At this moment I feel like Don Corleone when they kill his son in broad daylight and I wish I never got a sequel...

    I beg that Naughty Dog revisits this sequel and does it right by our expectations or it will surely dive into consumer hatred for is a previously famous and strong brand.    … Expand

Uno como fans puede aguantar la muerte de Joel, escenas eróticas que no tienen sentidos en este juego, la orientación de los personajes no es problema, mucho menos el problema son las protagonistas mujer , sino el principal problema es que nos obliguen jugar con la asesina de Joel todo para que le tengamos cariño y empatía con ella y están lejos de lograrlo y ya ni mencionar el final malo donde en todo el juego Ellie busca venganza y acaba con todos los aliados de abby para que al final no decida matarla, vaya final más malo… Expand

    Thanks for murdering the game I've been waiting for years. I try to pretend this isn't real, since my first encounter with the game 7 years ago was unique, I felt so connected to it and its story. This is just straight up disgusting.

Yeah, the graphics are good (personally I thought RDR2's were much better and that was three years ago) and it's pretty smooth. Gameplay is the same as the first game, but you're in it for the story, characters and relationships, all of which goes out the window in this game. Everyone feels out of character, acts out of character, and there's no arcs or growth. They're just miserable, and the game makes sure you are miserable too. Violence was expected, and I'm typically more than fine with it, but a lot of the time it felt too over the top and had me flinching.The plot makes no sense at all, with huge plot holes, no arc, and having everything out of order feels sloppy and disjointed. Also, playing as Abby is a **** slog. They show her brutally kill Joel before giving her a "sympathy arc", which just solidifies me hating her before she gets a chance. Why is she important? We've killed so many as Joel and even more as Ellie. Who gives a **** about her father? The first game was about redemption, how you can always find something to live for, and how even the darkest paths can be turned off of. The first game ended with the player weighing the question of "was Joel's choice acceptable?" But this game doesn't allow you to sit with that anymore. The uncertainty of if Ellie knows and is going along with the lie or actually believes him is thrown out. This game literally has the director lookalike spit on that story's dead body. The relationships from the first game are gone. The characters are gone. The message is gone. What's the point. The ending doesn't even complete the story and just leaves you upset and unsatisfied. What a **** waste. If you haven't condemned your 60 bucks just look up the intro and the museum scene and save yourself the ordeal of the most disappointing game I've ever played.… Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
