This game pushes the PS4 to its limits. It’s graphically the best game I’ve ever seen on console, at times it looks next gen. Story - There’s two for the price of one here, and if people can accept this isn’t meant to be a pretty story line with Ellie and Joel then the sooner people realise what it’s about the sooner they’d enjoy it for what it is. The storylines revolve around pretty much the same scenario but the consequences of one character can and will directly effects the other. It’s seeing the same event but through different eyes. It’s tough to do but I think naughty dog have nailed it here. It’s mainly a story for hate and revenge, it sent me on a rollercoaster of emotions (hate, sad, happy, sympathy) and it feels like this part of the game hasn’t changed as I felt emotionally connected to all the characters.

Character progression/weapon mods - it takes the original concepts and builds on them. There are more to your arsenal than you may think. In the first game, I never really used smoke grenades but here I’ve used everything in both Ellie’s and Abby’s arsenal (both characters are playable). I also like the fact their arsenal reflects them as characters, with Abby being more the militant character she gets more solider like abilities, Ellie is a scavenger and her arsenal and abilities reflect this. Level design - each level and encounter has multiple paths to take down enemies silently, this is found a very welcoming change. It built on the last of us where there maybe only one or two paths to take down enemies or the infected silently, here I think I could take 4 maybe 5 but if you alerted someone there was always somewhere to run and hide till the heat dies down. The level design and detail is fantastic you can appreciate the hard work naughty dog have done here. Characters - there are a host of new characters here. Their dialogue is well written, well acted and their individual personalities shine through very early on.

Conclusion - This game definitely builds on the last, it takes its core and builds on it. The story is fantastic and well written, but DO NOT expect a pretty story and is very dark at times. The whole controversy of LBGTQ stuff never really bothered me at all it’s not thrown in your face. Just because a character is of that sexual orientation doesn’t mean they’ve done it because they’re trying to highlight an issue, it’s just the characters personality. Ellie is more masculine than female and being of her sexual orientation only highlights this. Despite the praise I have given TLOU part 2, there are some little negatives that I’d like to highlight. At time’s the Abby story does drag on a little too long for my liking, this doesn’t however mean I don’t like the character cause I do. I just feel one of the areas we have to get out of just drags a little but the level design it’s self is very well crafted and executed. The only other negative is sometimes the back story of the two characters jumps a little all of the place. They’re well written and a joy to play but sometimes it didn’t quite make sense to have a teenage years scene when it happened. For me it’s a must play, if you can oversee some of the negativity it’s been harshly given and take it for what it is then you’ll massively enjoy it. Don’t think this is a nicey nice games after the events of the first game cause it isn’t.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm real person and was a big fan of ND for years! I still can't believe how you and Druckmann destroy such masterpiece like TLOU! Why did you do this to your fans and our loved character? The story of the game is really BAD. It's such crazy like if you played 10 hours as David just after killing and eating Ellie in the first part of the game. And Joel forgave him at the end, and after that David became new protagonist in TLOU. This is madness.
The only one thing that is good is graphic. Not even gameplay, it's almost the same like in TLOU1
I rating TLOU2 in next way
    0 for story
    3 for graphic
    1 for gameplay
BUT thanks to ND disrespectful behavior and lies to fans i cant rating this game more than 0
I hope some day ND will fix it and create real TLOU2 but not what they did

The story could’ve been executed better. I wish the story turned out to be about Joel and Ellie. But vengeance is a cycle of hate; and they truly did show how much of a destructive cycle it was just by how unorganized the game was. I feel like the team got stuck in politics and made so many changes that they hurried up and made mosh pit of flashbacks and concepts. Expand

Even though gameplay, graphics and sound immersion were top notch quality, the amazingly bad written story manages to make this game unenjoyable. Truly a shame for this franchise and especially when the first title was such a masterpiece...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was at the end as like a footnote but i feel it needs to be here as its more or less my raw emotional reaction to the game and is needed to understand the failure to maintain structure in the review proper. I'm a huge fan of TLOU and was more excited for this games release than excited for my own birthday party. I tried to make this review impersonal but it just ended up being jumbled and weird. That's because, at its core, TLOU was a deeply personal and small story. It's hard not to feel angry and disappointed at what this game is simply because we can all see what it could have been. I don't even know how to express it. it feels just sad, like they took all the good things from the first game and laughed at them just to come back when the story needed a "Hey, remember this?" or "Well this is what actually went down." moment. For big fans such as myself, this game just hurts, but not for any reason (like a good story) i wanted it to. Anyway, here is my more formal review.

TL;DR This game is beyond a disappointment on all but one level.

So, first I'll say this. As far as gameplay goes, this game is what a sequel should strive to be. All the previous systems are back and improve/tweaked in some meaningful way that makes them feel fresh, creative, and, well fun. However, therein lies the crux of the issue. The Last of Us (TLOU) was never became famous because its gameplay was superb. Rather, it was the story which caused fans to fall in love with the game. One might think Naughty Dog would be able to, at very least, create some interesting new characters, have a few memorable moments, and just overall tell a decent story right? Well no.
None of the new characters in The Last of Us 2 (TLOU2) are even remotely as interesting, deep, or memorable as any character found in TLOU. They all either have one trait/motivation or are show potential just to be killed or squandered. Take Abby for example. Y'know that once character that's a bruit with a soft side? Yup, sprinkle in some revenge for motive that's her character. Even though she is the only new character to get any meaningful development, it's still that simple to explain her. Compare that to Joel. In his game, he is a cynical old man, a unforgivable human, a loving father-figure, a kind-hearted person, and more.
Even more forgettable than the characters themselves is the story. It was simply a boring take on a revenge plot that didn't take any advantage of the threads the first game left hanging until far too late into the narrative. For about the first quarter of the game, the player is just wondering, "Ok but why did kill Joel?". Then Ellie has a flashback with her talking to Joel about the Salt Lake City Hospital incident and the player is immediately able to understand Abby's motives. However, even though the player is acutely aware of this fact, Ellie is still in the dark. This leads to a long and boring period of time in which Ellie is trying to find WLF members in order to track down Abby and learn Abby's motives; which, again, we already know. It tries to treat the scene in which Ellie learns this information as the big it reveal it should be; but, again, the player has known this for hours.
But worse of all is Abby's side of the game. After killing all of Abby's friends and regrouping with Tommy in chapters "SEATTLE DAY 1-3", Ellie and her group are about to go home when Abby kills Jesse and corners Tommy and Ellie. The player readies themself for this big final confrontation when... cut to black. "SEATTLE DAY 1" appears on screen and the minor confusion from what just transpired is replaced by dread as the player realizes that no, that segment you played as Abby was not strictly meant to make you think Joel was safe, but was foreshadowing to the long and boring segments in which the devs attempt to get you attached to characters whom you have already killed. To their credit, a lot of time is spent on two side characters who Ellie never saw until the theater, however they are as flat as all of the side characters while basically sharing the protagonist role with Abby in her part of the story. They basically take her on what amounts to a side quest so that Abby is conveniently absent while Ellie's groups kills Abby's. Not to mention that the game has done a somewhat decent job at making the player hate Abby at this point.
All the reasons listed here only scratch the surface as to this game's failures. Bare in mind, I only went into depth on very small parts of the laughable narrative. I never mentioned the any of the "torture-porn'-like scenes which liter the game, I didn't even try to explain the circumstances around Joel's untimely end (I could have made this entire review around that one story beat and not have room to say everything which needs to be said), I didn't mention the overt political messages, I skipped talking about the dialogue, etc. A full deconstruction of this piece is a Herculean effort and that honestly saddens me.

Yes, the game has its issues with logical holes and gameplay, but the main idea and philosophy of the game are so much bigger, so I just didn't care about everything else.
There's neither Good nor Evil in real life. Just your choices and consequences, which may be good for some people and horrible for others at the same time. TLOU2 is not the first game representing this philosophy, but this is definitely one of the best realizations so far.
    10/10 for me.

I feel really sorry for all those people supporting that dirty trolling and behaving like that on socials and on Youtube. Just stop, guys. Most of you so upset by the game just because you all expected something similar to the first game, but it turned out to be different. I understand that we all have our favorite characters that we want to be alive forever. But good stories don't work quite like that (remember Game of Thrones for example). There's a much bigger picture in this game.

On a technical level the game is phenominal. The sound design is the best in any game I've played. It is breathtakingly beautiful at points and oppresively bleak at others and uses this combined with the sound design for excellent narritive effect. The gameplay is awesome too: combat feel excellent, exploring is exciting, crafting and survival mechanics are satisfying but with a level of tension to them, because the everpresent scarcity in your resources, and theres even a few enjoyable puzzles in it.
The emotional impact the story had on me was really surprising as I don't usually feel affected by games, films etc. I'm a huge fan of the first game and love the characters but throughout the 25 hours I played it for, I felt genuine excitement, joy, fear and even shed actual tears. This is because the characters are fantastically well rounded and empathetic, even as they make bad decisions I understood their motivations and their complex and flawed personalities. In addition to that the game has probably the best representation of women, minorities and queer people in any big budget game that I know of and I respect Naughty Dog so much for doing that.

The game's graphics and mechanics are amazing, I haven't encountered many bugs or other things that bother me during the game. Instead, the story of the game is very, very nasty, you are made to play with the enemy just to take more time to make the game last longer. The ending is a very ugly one without logic and that does not ignite any feelings and makes you wonder "what the hell is this".

It's so easy to love or loathe this game, I like to think of it as Marmite or The Last Jedi. But no matter which side of the fence you fall on, it's certain that this game is going to leave a nasty scar.

I for one find this game really special because of how personal the experience it gave me was to me, the environmental storytelling is sublime (as it is with most Naughty Dog titles). There are some genuinely beautiful moments that make you wish for the serenity to last before you are thrown back into the vicious and unforgiving road to revenge. The gameplay hasn't really evolved too heavily from the first game other than a few interesting additions, I personally didn't have a problem with it but the lack of innovation may bore you at some points. Before I wrap up the positive section I would just like to gush over how much I want to marry the graphics and art direction of this game, oh boy, you really have to see for yourself.

Here comes the bit that you butthurt gamerboys are looking for - the negatives. No matter which side you are on, we can unanimously all agree that the execution of the narrative and general writing here is abysmal. At certain points, some of the dialogue between characters is janky and out of place and there is a 10-hour section of this game that is unnecessary and just made me want to throw my character off a cliff and watch her scream as she plummets to her death ( I had much fun with this).

This is my personal opinion but I really do love this game, and as you were probably wondering earlier, yes - I love Marmite too. I don't love it despite its flaws, I love it because it's flaws has made the game so decisive and controversial (and you all know I'm here for the drama.) Jokes aside this game is truly beautiful, and to develop your own opinion you really do have to play it for yourself. Also please don't listen to the reviews that say "0, jjkjksjksjsksjksskj" because I'm pretty sure its either spam or clickers bashing a keyboard.

New features were added such as jumping and swimming, but the overall gameplay remains the exact same. The game gives you a variety of new ways to eliminate enemies, but does little to innovate in terms of actual design. A lot of scenarios are the same and the overall gameplay remains almost the exact same as the original except that stealth is a more viable option.
As violent as this game is, the game goes through great detail to make sure that the enemies you are fighting are humanized. Whenever you kill a character in view of another character, that character will shout their name. Whenever you kill or fight an enemy, you can clearly hear their screams of agony. The game gives you more detail on these random enemies and throwaway ai models than the actual secondary characters within the game. The Last of Us 2 has a tendency to just randomly do things for shock value at any given moment. There are various moments where the game will invest you into a secondary character just to have them instantly die at random moments, with no time to think or process what just happened. It’s nigh impossible to truly invest in any secondary character because they will likely die off in a few scenes.
The Last of Us 2 attempts to tell a story about vengeance and the effects that the violence can have, but it fails miserably because of the setup. The game starts off with a gruesome, shocking death that it never really recovers from. It attempts to paint ‘an eye for an eye’ scenario without explaining anything around the scenario until much later in the second half of the game. All throughout the game, it glorifies violence through ultra violent killings, many of which are forced that you have no control of. It attempts to chastise and criticize the player for being violent when the game itself encourages violence for most of the situations you find yourself in. One such situation is a Quick Time Event where you are forced to kill a dog. The game later tries to make you feel bad for this decision by giving you a flashback playing with this dog. This feels cheap and comes across as a very poor way of Naughty Dog trying to shoehorn in its themes.

The second half of the game is no better. The game completely switches viewpoints at a key moment in the story and places you in the position of a different character. This is where many people’s entire investment in the game ends and is where the game falls flat on its face. You play as this completely unlikeable character who has been villainized for the entire game, and you are forced to go through a redemption arc in order to have you sympathize with the character. This is way after the character has done actions out of nowhere with zero characterization and these actions making zero sense. The entire backstory of this character is shoehorned and thrown in during this key moment in order to provide a rushed, slapped-together reason to identify with the character.
The gameplay also takes a sharp dive at this point. The gameplay loop of run-fight- upgrade-loot becomes very noticeable when the game throws everything that it can to make sure that you cannot progress. Instead of puzzles or other things that you need to solve to progress, the game throws locked doors, randomly collapsing structures, and obstacles to make sure that your progress is as sluggish as possible. The game transitions from feeling akin to Tomb Raider with its puzzles and level design to feeling like a glorified game show. The gameplay at this point felt boring and unintuitive, and played like it was thrown in solely to give extra hours of gameplay.

The Last of Us 2 being longer than the original game might seem like a blessing, but it works against the game in this case. The entire second half of the game plays like filler, with poor level design, poor narrative, and poor gameplay loop. Around the 15 hour mark, I was ready for this game to start tying things up, but instead I got hit with repetitive level design and constant flashback sessions for an unlikeable character.
The game has some it’s best moments within the first half’s flashbacks, but even though they offer brief touching and interesting moments that shed some light into the narrative of the original, it felt very jarring being thrown in and out of the actual pacing of the story. Key moments are given cliffhangers to plot dump and narrative dump, and the pacing is all over the place.

Unfortunately, the storytelling and characters do not match this depiction of the game. In trying to improve the visual fidelity of the series, they removed everything that made the first game so beloved. You are thrown into a generic, cliched revenge plot with empty characters and sloppily rewritten main characters, along with an ending that makes every single thing that you went through for the entire game feel meaningless.

The story, the story itself is a masterpiece - I tend to say the screenplay is actually a next gen. Naughty dog managed to seize video gaming medium and accomplished impressive emotional attack. After the playthrough I felt all kind of emotions I could, I felt sorrow, I felt compassion I am replaying all the events in my head - all over and over again.

I can tell one thing, it touched me a lot, it made me think. It made me think about humans, about emotions, about feelings.

Yes, it could have been better, but this is by no means a bad game. I think the story was pretty good, not groundbreaking, but still very good! The best way I could describe it is a jigsaw puzzle that's been put together wrong - all the pieces are there and are great, but they're put together in the wrong way. It's hard to care about a character or event, when you get to see the motivation behind it or their actions 10 hours later - just doesn't make a lot of sense. The ending is very polarizing - you're either love it or hate it. MOST of the new characters are kind of bland, but there are some notable exeptions.
Game plays exactly like the 1st one, just more of the same and it does get tedious at times. But bottom line - t's still fun, it's polished and you can skip a lot of encounters if that's your cup of tea!
As many other people have said, if this was a standalone game, and we didn't have to heavily compare it to the original, a lot of the hate would not exist.
If these points are not a turn off for you - play the game! I personally have no regrets and feel like I got my money's worth.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Anyone who rates this game a 8 or below is stupid. They have no idea what they're talking about. Because The Last Of Us Part ii was single handed, the best gaming experience I've had in a long while. And these people are either trolling and haven't played, or they have an opinion but are toxic about it. I can safely say that TLOU2 is a masterpiece in not only graphical fidelity, but also its evolved and fluid game mechanics, and its phenomenal narrative structure and storytelling. Developer Naughty Dog took a brave decision with this game, and it worked out. They took the decision to make us play different characters. They took the decision to express Ellie's sexuality to make the story feel more real and immersive to today's society. It honestly breaks me so bad that people are hating on the game just because of the past leaks, or their general opinions on LGBTQ+ communities, or even the fact that the story 'wasn't what they wanted'. Well, guess what. The story was never going to be what you wanted. Everyone wanted Joel to live. Everyone wanted to play as Ellie for the full narrative. But thats not the point of this game. This game's theme is revenge as part, but mainly to teach that actions always have their reactions and outcomes. You are meant to feel loss, sadness, some hatred. You are meant to be mad at the circumstances between Abby and Ellie. And thats what makes it so brilliant. You are pulled in by this immersive, intuitive world that is lush with plantlife and the oid world, combined with imminent danger around every corner. The story of TLOU2 is to show that they're never will be a happy ever after. Even the ending is the saddest ending of any game in my opinion. The timelines perfectly tie in to each other. With Ellie being either one step ahead or behind in the games present day. And also in the playable memories between Ellie and Abby. They are perfectly intertwined. And have perfect parallels too, with both having their father figure murdered in cold blood. Both having their friends killed or hurt. Im telling you this now, this game is a masterpiece. The world is beautiful, the narrative is an emotional wild ride. The gameplay has nothing but been evolved for the better. The interactive moments with characters really immerse you and make you feel exactly what the characters are feeling. The games execution is so good that what you feel is no longer empathy, you feel as if you are Ellie. You are on the journey with her. You feel that you experienced Joels death with her. In which, you did.

So, anyone who has read this and still thinks the game is disappointing, you're entitled to your opinion as long as you have thoroughly experienced the game and have seen everything. But to the trollers and the toxics, just shut up. You're bloody delusional. I will only hear out your opinions until you learn to be fair, kind and want to have a good discussion about this complex, deep lore written world. Because this game deserves to be remembered, for the brave strides it took, and for its incredible execution. Well done Naughty Dog, well done...

10/10...forever 10/10...no doubt in my mind....

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. WTF was this mess... if this got that many 10/10 from those so-called game journalists/reviewers, either they are bribed or they are simply retarded. There’re many things wrong in this game — the more hours you spend in this story, the worse it gets. The dev and the publisher are crazy enough to let the player to go through this story to not just waste their time but also destroy their experience and memory from the first game.

The story writing and arrangement were some of the worst I’ve seen in years. None of the new characters was interesting or charming, and yet the dev decided to force the player to control one of the most hated characters for hours and to tell a story that no one cares. I recognized that many players probably can only feel connected to those characters from the first game, but the writing was done so poorly that these characters got so much different than the ones in our memory. The new characters are also changing quite a lot that it feels they don’t have fixed personalities which guided their actions. It almost felt like the characters (i.e. the writer) betrayed us by changing that much every, like, 3 minutes.

Every flashbacks were awkward and out of place, and sometimes felt like the dev found a loophole in the story and then just added the information through a flashback. In my opinion the game was already pretty bad at nearly the end, but after the dev forced us to beat up Ellie, it got to the last “episode” and that’s when the game truly fell apart into a 0/10 crap to me.

Gameplay-wise, it’s ok but also feels unexceptional. It was supposed to be a story-driven game after all. I’d have probably given it like a 2/10 simply for the mo-cap, map design and gameplay, but now it’s 0/10 considering how the dev replied on this mess and how this game left no feeling or even took all the connections to every characters from me.

The game plays beautifully, with improved mechanics from the predecessor and some obviously well thought out new ideas added to the mix as well. In the moments where it feels as though you are repeating a sequence from the first game, I saw these as developer nods to long time fans. From the 30+ hour play through I was never once bored or felt as though I was in a repetitive loop.

    Now on to the story...

No game, film, tv series or any media on any medium has taken me on an emotional roller coaster like this game does. From heart wrenching devastation, to uplifting humour all the way to eager excitement that kept me up to 2am on more than one occasion. Those looking for a colour by numbers story where good and evil are clearly defined and you’re told who to support should look elsewhere. This game above anything else is about the human experience, what trauma does to shape us, how perspective changes perception and so many more themes I could write more on. What’s worth mentioning though is the theme of cost. What all of our actions cost us and cost others is a huge theme of this game and I promise these moments will reverberate through you as you play.

If you haven’t bought this game because you’re unsure of what to expect based on negative user reviews, do yourself a favour and get it, play it and make your own mind up.

For me - I’ll be up to 2am for a few more nights to come replaying this epic adventure.

I went into this completely open-minded, thinking that it might not be as bad as it seemed in the leaks. I was wrong.
Don’t buy this, I returned mine. Yes, It’s that bad...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've never got conflicted like this before about anything in my life.

First of all like most people agrees, the gameplay, the visuals, the sound effects and the character animations are the best I've ever seen in a game. The attention to detail is top notch like it is in every ND title. Also I don't understand the people who call the AI "incompetent" as I can't even remember how many times Dina saved my skin or the Rattlers got me cornered in a very smart way. Not even talking about the brilliant redesign of the stalkers, leaving the iconic clickers in the shadow.

I have absolutely nothing but praising NaughtyDog about those aspects.

The problems start with the story, obviously.

When I put everything aside, I asked myself only one question after finishing the game. "If I played the first game with Abby and her father instead of Joel and Ellie, would I hate Ellie and Joel as much as I did Abby in this game?"

Honestly, the answer was yes. What Joel did in the ending of the first game ruined the firefly communities lives and condemned any kind of hope those characters had. Every bad decision they made for this cause was for in vein and their existence became purposeless. So I understand where she comes from and I would 100% root for Abby had I played the first game with her.

The problem is, we didn't play as her. We don't know her as much as we do Joel. Except Owen and Alice, I really didn't feel anything about the other characters around Abby. Lev and Yara were a nice touch as well but again feels a bit short compared to the side characters we had in the first game (eg. Tess/Henry).

I think this game would be an easy 10/10 if it was the 3rd title of the series, had we played with Abby on second game, had they fleshed out the new cast better, it could have been a solid trilogy.

That being said, I still enjoyed the game. Except the 3 parts/decisions, I can't stress enough how much I hate those 3, I liked the game. It was a "not fun" revenge epic and I felt somewhat satisfied with the ending. Honestly the ending was exactly how I wanted it to be but the part where Ellie let's her go felt a bit weak, it's one of the 3 issues I had with it. At least have them have a short conversation or give Ellie more flashbacks where she remembered who she was and stopped before it consumed her innocence entirely. Let us feel it a bit more instead of saying "people will get what we want to tell at this point". When I first saw Abby hanging it made me feel sick and sorry for her. In the last fight every punch I hit to her was a long hard decision for me. Every time I saw the desperation in her eyes, it was beautifully horrific. Yet again, just watching the last cutscene, I don't know why Ellie let her go. I can fill in the blanks by using my imagination and empathy, but in that scene, you just need to do a little bit more. After putting us through an almost 30 hour horror fest, you have to give us more than that. But I agree she should have let her go because murdering someone like that is not in line with her character. When the game starts she is filled with rage and even then you can see that every bad decision she makes, leaves her in pain. She is not a stone cold killer. She only takes someone's life to defend herself and her loved ones.

The other two part I'd want changed is how they killed Joel, and the ending of Tommy.

I'd like to see Joel going out with at least some dignity, maybe saying "It's okay, I love you" to Ellie as his last words would be enough. That would make it more painful but at least we would know he was okay with it because inside he knew that he deserved it. Instead he gets beaten to a pulp, even if he deserves it, after 7 years of wait, I don't know, it was the point but still a tough pill to swallow.

And about Tommy, after Ellie returns to farm the last time I'd like her to go see Tommy, Maria, Dina and JJ at Jackson. They could be sitting together on a bench and Ellie could just see all four of them together, maybe Dina would look at her and we would cut it like the first game. These 3 changes, in my opinion, would make the game much stronger.

On a final note I never felt like the game forced any SJW or LGBT agenda to me. The main characters sexuality, religion and genders were natural.

I finished the game once and I will keep playing it for the weeks to come. I wanted to give this game 10/10 but I can't do it in good conscious. However it stands as one of the best games I've ever played in my life.

It’s their story, their characters and they can do wherever they want, but doing that is forgetting who helped move all this machinery and made the possibility to have a second game: the fans. All the technical wonder and the cgi deserving of an oscar nomination, is now invalid because they not only created a sometimes boring and not compelling story, but also because they forgot what define the characters they created and what the real story was about. I rarely ever leave negative reviews for games but this really crosses the line. Not only is the story incredible incompetent and completely disrespectful to the legacy of the original game but the gameplay itself is so boring, incredibly tedious and archaic. I honestly cannot see how critics can give honestly this game perfect 10/10 scores in the state its in. Like the game feels like it's not even made for an audience in mind but rather Its made for Neil himself and Twitter followers. No wonder 70% of the staff left Naughty Dog.

I saw the spoilers beforehand but I believed that with the right context, naughty dog will pull it through. I trusted that if there was ever a developer that could weave some of those weird story choices together into something that made sense, it would be naughty dog. I trusted that if there was ever a developer that could weave some of those weird story choices together into something that made sense, it would be naughty dog. I mean, look at all they've been able to make. Masterpiece after masterpiece. I'm afraid to say it but this time they failed. This game was boring, the story was so weird. The choices that the characters make are just the strangest most out of place choices that feel like the writer wanted because of a story they're pushing instead of what the character would actually choose. Kurt Vonnegut once discribed writing a character and controlling their choices, it feels like you can only control them with stale rubber bands. You can pull them a little, but once you pull too much, the character breaks. It feels like almost all of the characters broke in this story. The writers seemed like they had a story in mind, then just threw characters in to fit certain roles regardless of who that character is.

The graphics are great, the acting is great, gameplay is meh. But without a good story in a game like the last of us, all of those things matter so little. With no story, it all falls apart. This was a very sad realization because it proved to me that even great game developers like Naughty Dog can fail so miserably. I will definitely wait until after reviews to buy the next game they make.

The Brutal way Joel is killed is not a problem. Because I know that if a apocalypse happens things like his death will happen. That's why I don't hate the game. It's brutal violence is needed to show reality - how cruel the real world is. And a message to all the people who say that the game is too much violent or brutal - just shut the **** up and stop crying. The world is no place filled with fairy tales. Life is harsh and hard. Especially during the apocalypse. So just Grow up and stop pretending to know everything, and that that your review is the right one. Because it is not. And about the game play. I think it is amazing. It just keeps everything from the first game that I loved. And improves it. Another message to all the people who say that the game play hasn't changed any better: it wouldn't be a good sequel if it changed the game play completely. It kept it the same and improve it. The gunplay is good. Thank God they didn't change it to be like CoD or fortnite or GTA5 just to satisfy whining fan boys like you. The game play isn't supposed to be like any of these I mentioned. It is supposed to be last of us game play. And this game keeps it very well. About the graphics... well.. They are impressive. Fenomenal even. And you who say that it has bad graphics... You are Dumb. Why don't who complain about the graphics make another game with better graphics if you know so much. Right you won't because you can't and you know it. All you can do is complain. So if you can't make anything better just do yourself a favor and stop whining. Last but not least to all you who say Tha are hardcore fans of the last of us and come here to complain about game play and graphics... YOU ARE NOT HARDCORE FANS. JUST GO TO HELL AND STOP WHINING. This game brings back nostalgia from the old last of us with its game play. If you do not appreciate that then you are not a hardcore fan. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. People are mad because (minor spoilers) the main character from the last game, Joel, is brutally killed off at the start, and then you play as his killer in the latter half to understand why she would do something that awful. Players can't get over this and it taints their view of the game.

This game's objectively the masterpiece that all the critics say, but the players rage, lack of self honesty and desperate need for vengeance ruins it- Just as it does for the main characters. It's pretty brilliant, actually. And just like the main characters, the audience is slowly starting to come around and realize how foolish they've been- The metacritic score has risen from 2 to 4 in only a few days, and it'll keep going up.

Personally? I had no problem with it. I'm thrilled they killed Joel. The guy shot up a hospital and ruined our only shot at undoing the apocalypse, leading to millions more deaths. (This is indisputable if you heard the voice logs in the hospital).
I just wish Joel's death had been a player controlled moment. It's not every day you get to kill Hitler. 9/10, miserable but amazing.

Yes, I can understand why you can be disappointed after final. From my point of view is 10/10 no questions, but for someone it could be lower.
But it's not 3.9 by any chance. Metacritic should do something with reviews from users who never played. Let's add playstation account auth. Relevant for all the platforms. Steam, Microsoft store and cetera also have Oath Api.

Although the game mechanics are a clear improvement over the first one, the game's tone and story fall abysmally. I waited SOME time for this game to launch and I honestly expected better.

Although the game wasn't a COMPLETE disappointment, ND's business practices were. Honestly I would have given it a mixed review if not for this factor.

I purchased the game on release day and somehow managed to play the game unspoiled and didnt hear about the leaks before. So I was really blind to the game - and that just might be the point. I ADORE every piece and part of this game. The characters are so detailed, vivid, emotional,... Naughty Dog just proved once more that there are geniusrd in character and animation design working there. The story is action, hatred, anger but also love and a little laughter and this already in the first 60minutes in game.

Just as the first game totally changed my priciples (I'd never shoot an uninvolved doctor, not even in vid games, but **** it, i shot everyone at the fireflies in part I) this game managed to do this as well. First i HATED to play the second protagonist of the game but more and more, the character developed, i felt pity, i began to understand, i even cried for him/her until everything merged together in an emotional roller-coaster-like climax.

Screw the haters, as most of them didn't even played themselves or IF they did, they were already spoiled and made their bad opinion up in their head already - nothing could change these prejudiced people, they never gave the game a chance.

Play it yourself, unspoiled or try to let yourself into the journey unbiased and you WILL NOT regret it.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
