Now the story is good, sometimes really good but most of the time executed bad. Game is trying to make you look both sides of a vegenance (which is creative on paper) and it will try make you feel bad about the choices that your character makes. However because of how long it is, after the hours pass (after the previous choice), it wont matter, you wont even feel a thing. There is was this one part when I should feel sad when something happened to a character I loved, but game progressed so fast that I even didnt have second for it. And the memory of the character got dumped.

Oh btw, I **** loved playing as Abby (please dont hate me).

The first part of the last of us for many, as for me, is an indisputable masterpiece, since there is simply nothing like it anymore. She set a new bar for the quality of the story of heroes and their relationships. The second part was already created with an eye on the first, and the main task was to make the game at least not worse. And in my opinion, the developers coped with this task very well, presenting a masterpiece game in terms of the character of the heroes, internal conflicts, ambiguous actions and "gray" morality, which is almost maximized.

The gameplay since the first part, in my opinion, has practically not changed. The second part strongly parasitizes on the old, not offering anything new, except for some points. Here it is appropriate to make a comparison with a series of games from the same studio - Uncharted. Uncharted 4 came out 5 years after the previous part, and there the gameplay along with the graphics made a qualitative leap forward, giving the player a new experience and great pleasure from the gameplay. New interesting features were added, the existing ones were improved and reworked. By the way, the plot and characters of the characters have also been greatly improved and complicated. Here, a whole 7 years have passed since the release of the first part, and so little has changed: the game most of the time takes place in the same places as in the first part (abandoned buildings, overgrown streets, etc.); the same principle of fighting the infected and the soldiers; the pumping of the hero and weapons has not really changed; there is only one new type of infected, which is rather boring; practically no new game features, such as the rumor, which has not been reworked since the first part, etc. Yes, graphics, detailing, physics of the surrounding world have improved. For example, parts of the body fly very nicely after shots or how snow falls from branches when you touch them, etc. In some places, the game fascinates with beautiful views and landscapes, but all this will quickly flicker, since most of the events take place in closed, darkened locations, where all the graphics capabilities are not particularly used.

Of course, there is some novelty and improvements, but, in my opinion, over 7 years of work this is monstrously little, especially against the background of "Uncharted". It's all about the sensations. Personally, I did not feel a qualitatively different experience from the gameplay. Everything is as we remember from the first part. I don’t know, maybe it’s partly good that the game is “true to itself”, and many players were waiting for this, but personally for me it is a small, but still a minus, as I expected more.

But, as already mentioned, the last of us is first of all a story, and then a game. The first thing I thought after going through the second part: why people, having such material on their hands, did not go to shoot a TV series or a film, because the depth of everything that happens goes beyond blockbuster games. Ellie and Joel's story stands out from a number of other games that have a similar genre. Most games don't even come close to the last of us, because the plot, however good it is, is only a means of providing gameplay possibilities. Here, as I see it, the first task of the creators was to make history.

And the last of us 2 is a logical continuation of this story, which reveals the drama of the previous part from the other side, giving it even more depth. "Ambiguity" - this word can be used to describe the whole game. It manifests itself not only in the characters of the characters, but in everything that happens. Each character faces a difficult choice, makes it, and then carries this burden of responsibility and consequences until the very end.Someone may not like this, since the game does not prioritize "good" and "bad", it just shows the tragedy of living people who find themselves in a harsh reality. The drama increases with the passage of time, as if along a parabola, reaches its peak and then collapses in the form of final credits, leaving in a little confusion and in the desire to comprehend what he saw. This is facilitated by the excellent atmosphere of the post-apocalyptic world, in which only emptiness, hopelessness and cruelty remained.

The result. It's a shame to watch how so many people are trying to artificially drop the rating, giving the marks "0" or "1". It is clear that most of this hate is a response to what is happening around the game: plot leaks, controversial LGBT topics, unreasonably high ratings from professional critics, etc. But this is also unjustified expectations, since many even before the release of the game decided how they would like to see the sequel. And there is a difference between a really bad story and a story that is not what you wanted to see. Personally, I believe that the creators coped with the chosen vector of development of history with dignity.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow, this game is brutal. After playing the first the last of us, i thought I would never play a game at the same level. How wrong was I. The game has breathtaking graphics ("you´re breathtaking") and a fluid gameplay. The game is not fun, it´s not supposed to be. That´s what some people don´t realise. The game shows us how cruel the reality is. Not everything happens the way people want and people that you love die. This game is a search for revenge and what a person can do to get it. I love Ellie, but the reality is that she is not the same Ellie we knew. She killed everyone in her way, including Abby´s best friends. And even though she killed them, Abby let her and Dina go. And she went after her again leaving everything behind. The ending was very emotional, when Ellie let Abby go, we saw a little bit of hope, we saw Ellie as a human and not as the cruel thing she had become. In the end we see the Ellie again leaving the farm with a unknown path, leaving the possibility of a The last os us Part 3. I have hope. The Last of Us 2 is the best game i have ever played. Expand

I know this was hard. Joel was one of the best characters in this game. What they did was not right. But I have to admit the game play, graphics, character model all running on a PS4 without any glitches is mind blowing and It was the creators freedom to do this to their story. But, Overall this game was so emotional and awesome.

Graphics are great, some of the best on PS4.

Storyline isn’t well thought out at all. The infected aren’t even necessary to the storyline. They are just a means to tell a silly story, of two people who want to kill each other. It’s easy to care for Ellie, and see her side of all of it.

Abbys story could have been done well. It could’ve been interesting, and they could have made a game that created an environment where you cared for the character and what happens to them. But they failed at every turn. They waited for 50% of the game to be over to even teach you anything about the character.

I played the game a very long time after the hype died down. I came to learn that many many others feel they ruined the sequel to the original, and I have to agree.

The story doesn’t hold a candle to the original. They lost the magic that made the original story so gripping and entertaining. If this game was purely about Ellie, Dina, and Jesse I would’ve really enjoyed it. If the scars were somehow a common enemy, that made you have to work with Abby at some point, only to get to decide whether she lives or dies later, it would’ve been incredible.

More choices should’ve been in the players hand. They aren’t being brave by telling the story they did, but lazy. This game reminded me of all of the disappointment the last couple of years embodied, from The Walking Dead Finale, to the Game of Thrones Finale, Cyberpunk 2077s launch, and more.

Hopefully 2021 brings better entertainment, because 2020 carried a lot of bad, including the games released, such as this one.

It is clear that it is not sitting well with some people! I just hope that Naughty Dog will have the courage to continue down that road as good storytelling is pretty rare in games and movies today.

Technically the game is very good, great visually, great acting and a very worthy successor of TLOU1. A minor thing I missed was more variety or creativity in controls and perhaps weapons. It felt a bit like a copy from the predecessor.

I look forward to TLOU3 or a dlc!

I would say it is quite a dark game thematically, but then so is the first and zombie apocalypse isn't a cheery subject matter! It has light moments so it isn't too overbearing. There is an increased focus on character and story development which I think (as do most people) is one of the greatest strengths of Naughty Dog games; if you want non-stop action stick to Doom and online deathmatches. Large parts of the original focused on exploration (improved upon here with better puzzle solving than 'find the raft' etc) and storytelling so for me it feels like more of an evolution; it further increases the brutality of the combat when peace is shattered as well as the lives of even minor characters, who are nuanced and feel real, even more so than in the original.

The best thing? Angering those who don't like gay people, which is what criticism of the story tends to come down to, along with entitlement (it is a zombie apocalypse, bad stuff happening to characters you like should not be a surprise). It isn't SJW propaganda to make a game featuring a gay character when a large proportion of the public is gay. Of all the things to hate in the world, all the evil, people choose to hate on love between two adults.

An amazing game that improves on the first in every way without anything lost about what made that game a classic. Ignore the hate, this game is one of the best ever made, having played most of the 'classics' including the original.

It's a gritty game with high production value and an unneeded story. Naughty Dog ruined its best IP by vilifying Ellie and Joel in order to attempt to make an awful character likable. I'm really disappointed with Naughty Dog's take on part 2. They should have ended the story after the first game.

The problem is the gameplay: There’s been absolutely zero evolution in the seven years since the original was released. TLOU at least had some fun and occasional joy. Aside from one section (in the museum) TLOU2 is a joyless monotonous slog. Frankly, even the museum section would have worked just as well if it were one long cutscene, since the only ‘gameplay’ consists of navigating between cutscenes.

So how do you grade a game where the gameplay is the worst part? Well, if you decide it’s a piece of art making a point about the brutal, repetitive, monotonous cycle of violence, then I guess you can give it a high score. Personally, I think they’d have been better off making the film they so clearly would have preferred to make.
    I gave it a 6.

This game is an okay game. The gameplay, acting, graphics, weapons overhaul and enemy development are all excellent. Contrary to that, the narrative is a bit discombobulated, in my opinion. People loved the original for the deep, meaningful narrative. I also found that I personally was not connected to any of the characters within TLOU2, in comparison to the original.

There’s been a lot of controversy regarding the whole gender perspective, specifically regarding a particular character you meet throughout the game. Abby is also built like a unit so, there’s speculation that she was designed with a gender bias (I’m not one hundred percent sure).

People who don’t like the gender movement in the game have been seen as phobic but, that’s not necessarily the case. The game is based in an apocalypse, so people are unsure why gender is even a ‘thing’ in the game.

However, people are more pissed off (including myself) as Naughty Dog seemed to have used Joel as leverage regarding the TLOU2 trailers, when in reality, Joel plays a very small part of the game. This is why people are so annoyed because, it seems that there has been a deliberate intention to destroy this whole ‘toxic male masculinity’ (mentality that men are supposed to have), by making Abby built like a heavyweight bodybuilder, and other aspects of the gender equality movement, specifically regarding a particular character in the game, and how Joel was killed by Abby earlier on in the game.

The whole reason why people loved the original TLOU was based on the narrative between Joel and Ellie, and their father daughter relationship. TLOU2 rips that perception apart, totally and deliberately.

Personally, I thought the game was okay but, I was not emotionally captivated as I was when I played the original. I felt the soundtrack and narrative was just up in the air, as you play Ellie and Abby throughout the game; Abby’s play through feels like a glorified side quest as she has no motives - her motive was achieved at the very beginning of the game which created an anticlimactic play through.

The characters you meet in the game are also very hard to like. Not that they’re ‘bad’ or anything but, I just felt the game design didn’t allow anyone to really attach to anyone. In the original, you meet Bill and I loved him because he was funny, moody, angry, sarcastic - there was so much substance to his character - this isn’t the case in TLOU2, unfortunately.

If you loved the original based on the narrative and bond between Ellie and Joel, then there’s a good chance you may not like this game.

The game is excellent in terms of build quality and graphically but, TLOU was built on the companionship between Joel & Ellie and their journey together.

This game is just a game without a great plot. Although it’s a good game, I got to a point where I just wanted to complete it to see if the ending would have made me feel, as the original did. Unfortunately, the ending did nothing for me, at all.

My score is 3/10. This is a The Last of Us game but, it felt like a completely different franchise. I also felt that the game was deliberately designed for a particular movement, disregarding the fan base of the original.

A game with extremely vulgar scenes, which are disgusting and are not credible. I want to play survival horror, not gay erotic game. I also don't like to play as a character and then as her enemy, I'm not a mercenary. I will not buy Naughty Dog games again until they change their strategy and stop these dirty games.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I created an account here just to give my opinion on this game. I see nothing but hate for having to play as Abby and people giving low scores because a beloved character was killed within hours of starting the game. That one scene should not warrant a low score! Everything about this game is phenomenal. The graphics, the music, the tension and the emotional roller coaster it took me on will never leave my mind. This story in this game kept me awake at night thinking about what is going to happen next or finding reasoning why a character did the things they did. The writers and directors clearly had a vision for this game and what transcended was an experience that not even a movie could make me feel. Seeing the story unfold from two different perspectives and seeing the two main characters juggle the same issues was awesome. Do yourself a favor and play this game and do not listen to all the crybabys badging the game! Life is not always rainbows. Bad things happen to innocent, good people everyday. This game is a masterpiece! Play it! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's the perfect game, I genuinely don't understand the tons of hate that's being thrown at it. It's so stupid. Her screenplay is worthy of an Oscar. It gives so many messages, they will be revealed for decades after its release. Ellie didn't lose her humanity - I was very much afraid of the opposite. Each character has its own storyline worked out to the smallest detail. I lived this story together with its heroes. When I turned off the console and went to bed, I thought about the part of the story that I saw. This game makes you think, raise questions in yourself that you have not asked before. She changed me, yes. I think it made me a better person. Is it worth talking about its technical component? Of course your mother! It is made with a huge love for details, little things, its heroes. I don't want to write here about graphics, physics and pictures. What for? This is the standard and the point. The technical component is not the main thing in this game, the main thing is the story. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a game itself its great like i’ll admit there are alot of good things in this game , the visuals, the ai , the accessibility features , the difficulty, the gameplay . But this game FAILS tremendously when it comes to storyline the revenge plot is garbage and really do not make sense at a post apocalyptic world , you play as joel 5 Min into the game and THEN 1.5 hour in the game HE DIES , he wasn’t on half of the game like it was shown in the trailers (False Advertising) , you get to play as ellie and travel MILES away to seatle just to kill that person who killed our best character, and please don’t get me started on the characters in the game even joel and ellie, ALL characters are soo poorly written its just painful clearly no personality at all , all have the personality of a wet handkerchief . All the characters are bad , i mean there are characters who are forgiving like jesse who is a really cool character aaaaaand thats it . Anyways when ellie travels to Seattle she kill abbys friends who participated in the torture of joel and then we switch back to abby so they keep on bringing flashbacks just so we could give a **** about her and care ,well we dont care about abby in the slightest, she was introduced in the game poorly she has zero morals and pretty much a hypocrite.basically killing everyone who lend a hand on her friend lev but kills joel who would literally do the sa,e for ellie and protect her at all costs ,after the boring ****ty abby scenario filled with plot holes , you see your friends dead and then you find a map on the floor which ellie dropped after killing both owen and that pregnant **** that wasn’t supposed to be at a combat mission to begin with but yeah WOMEN STRONK , anyways she drops the map on the floor like the idiot she is and abby find out they live at the theaters , abby almost kills tommy kills jesse almost kills dina and ellie ......
After several boring stuff later , you play as ellie at the ending trying to kill abby but she literally lets her go after killing 150+ innocent people , traveling miles and risking relationship . After she arrived at the house her gf left her she lost two fingers and she **** off back at the forest with no one caring about her anymore .... and abby visits the catalina house or whatever the hell it is amd we def know what she’s doing there basically having fun with her friends and drinking and eating meanwhile ellie scraping street concrete for food and looking for a friend , the story was a complete mess but there was some fun moments. Unfortunately there was too little fun moments that i can’t even mention but most of them were puzzles that are kinda good and boring at the same time .
    Story is a straight 3/10
But the mechanics alone pushed it higher imo

    The full verdict is 5/10
The game franchise is famous cuz of its story and characters where in this game it failed .

The gameplay was wonderful, graphics were top-notch, scares intense, and the battles excellent and all the while you can edit tons of little details of the game in the options, catering it to your specific tastes. However, without any giving away any spoilers, I found myself very disappointed in the story. I loved the first game so much that I was ecstatic to hear they were releasing a second. I avoided any spoilers and the only thing I knew for sure is we’d get to play as Ellie. The first few hours of the game were intense and heartbreaking but fueled me ever forward seeking out revenge. After all, we didn't purchase this game so we could put down our weapons and all have a tea party. We’re here to watch a great story unfold in a dystopian future while kicking some butt on the side. To my dismay, a ways through the game I no longer had the option to play as Ellie. Instead, half of the game we’re forced to play as a person they villainized within the first hour of gameplay, making it nearly impossible to connect or care about that persons storyline at all.

I forced myself to play through story parts I just couldn’t get into, with a character I wanted dead, hoping I’d be able to switch back and continue on with my revenge. But after many hours of trying to be optimistic I realized I just had to enjoy the game for what it was, and accept the disappointment.

If you go into the game with an open mind, (knowing you’ll most likely be disappointed) you’ll probably enjoy it. In fact, I wish I had read reviews and had low expectations to begin with, then maybe I would have had a better experience. (Just make sure you get it at a discount, lmao it’s not worth full price.)

Just finshed The Last Of Us Part II and it is one of the best games I have ever played, one of my top 5 favorite games of all time, but still not better then the first. The visuals are astounding, the best I have ever seen in a video game and they are the most realistic video game visuals I have ever seen they look like they are real. The performances from Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey were exceptional, they gave such emotionally powerful performances, also Troy Baker's performance was great he gave some well need peace to a pretty chaotic and crazy game. Ian Alexander, Shannon Woodward, Patrick Fugit, Stephen Chang, Alejandro Edda, and Ashly Burch gave terrific supporting performances. The writing was very well done and made me feel so many emotions like a good movie or TV show but I felt it was a little overly tragic. The character development was remarkable especially with Ellie and Abby. The LGBTQ+ representation with Ellie and Dina's relationship and the transgender character Lev who was also played by a transgender actor was amazing but some of the writing of Lev's story was questionable like how almost all of his suffering and tragedy in his life was because of his gender identity and the villains using his dead name. The gameplay was phenomenal especially the new weapons like the crossbow, the silencer, quiet and silenced weapons, and the prone position crawling. The music is outstanding and so beautifully done I especially loved the song sang by Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, the end credits, and Ashley Johnson singing Take On Me. This was definitely and A+ video game. Expand

What has been systematically downplayed however, is how boring and repetitive this game is. It drags, it drags like a snail on tarmac, to the point that it will make you question your infatuation for videogames. There is no pay off, no meaning, you will just be left empty, knowing that you wasted yet another 25 hours of your life.

Controls are good, movements are fluid, but the AI is disappointing and the lack of innovative gameplay features, mechanics, and intelligent level design, unequivocally clues the player in as to the misguided priorities of this creative endeavor.

To think that all of these resources, human labor, and skills, were put to the exclusive service of such a mediocre - dare I say, incompetent - director, and game designer, puts into question the reality of the meritocratic nature of this industry.

Anyone realizes that this has maybe the best graphics of any game ever, The gameplay is something most people are very satisfied with aswell.

Though the story is controversial. I loved it, it was so original and I never knew what to expect. They made me understand both Abbey's and Ellie's views and side and that was wonderfully done. People who hate it do so because they are emotionally attached to Joel and hate Abbey for that at the beginning, but if you just think about it Ellie and Joel are probably worse people than Abbey. Still I think both of them have flaws and that is what the game tries to tell you.

Further are the factions in the game set up beautifully and you can, again, feel for all of them. Some of the levels are super exciting, and so memorable, I feel like there is more of that here than in the original. I would say the entire game is even slightly better than the original.

No one is perfect, and revenge is kind of pointless. That is what this game tells you and it does that well.

The general gameplay is better, combat is more fluid, AI is a bit better, though still easily exploitable especially with lying in the grass. I hated the dogs, but that is more because I do not enjoy graphically killing dogs in video games.

I also enjoyed the story, I liked the way they told it, and I understand why it upset many people. Without spoiling anything it is a rather generic revenge story, which does not have many surprises but has some holes. I admire Naughty Dog how they are able to convey emotion with their games, and I think they were guessing that this story and the way they told it would lead to something like this.

I think this game became a victim of the hype train, many were expecting it would both cure COVID and eliminate world hunger once it comes out, but it did not. It was just a good game. If you for some reason get to read this I would say wait for a sale and play the game yourself.

I completed The Last of Us 1 like 5 or 6 years ago. I didn't read any news, leaks, or comments about the sequel going in. So my perspective is completely untainted.

At first, I was very shocked and upset about what the devs decided to do to Joel. I didn't have a problem with him dying. He did kill a bunch of innocent people in the first game, so I wasn't surprised karma would bite him eventually. I have a problem with him dying so soon. It's an enormous waste of a character, that was built up so meticulously from the first game. To me, he was the main character. The back bone to the story. I felt they could have done so much more with Joel, before killing him off. Maybe he gets captured, or something like that. Anything to build on his character more, and it could have increased Ellie's desperation and urgency. I felt it was a missed opportunity, story-wise.

After his death, I had a lot of doubts for what they could possibly do to keep me interested. Just like how I can't watch Simpsons without Homer, or Family Guy without Peter. Last of Us without Joel? How? As I progressed, the flashbacks Ellie had of Joel felt absolutely endearing. Bittersweet. A large part of that feeling stems from knowing Joel's gone. It was sad, but in a good way. Kind of like Game of Thrones, minus the ending. People died. It was a tragedy, but it made me love it more. Ellie's flashbacks heightened my need to pursue the killers, and find out why they did it. When I finally got to Abby, I honestly felt a bit sorry for her, after what Ellie did to her friends. At this point, she honestly had nothing. Killing her would have felt empty. I was ready for some answers. Then the game throws me in the shoes of Abby. Instead of a dramatic cutscene, the game put me directly in her shoes so I could see her side. And after seeing it, I completely understand where she's coming from. She went to kill Joel, to avenge her father. A logical reason. Not ethical. But reasonable. I didn't hate Abby anymore. Suddenly, I didn't know whose side I was on. And in the final chapter of the story. The showdown. I was shocked to see the condition Abby was in. I was extremely curious to see how this would affect Ellie's actions. The way it played out was perfect. Heartbreaking. So much emotion evoked in that fight. A fitting climax to the amount of **** that has transpired. By the end, I didn't like Ellie or Abby. They both were flawed. But yet, so human.

And now on to the more technical review...

    Good

    - hand-to-hand combat is good. The enemies attack animation slows down so that I could react with an input in time. This added a reflex test. Unlike a lot of other games where the hand-to-hand combat window was so small that it was usually not possible to react to, and I have to just pre-emptive block, or attack.

    - clickers are so well designed. They make the stealth gameplay so much more tense because you have to walk extra slow behind them, but at the same time you have to make an action quickly when you are within their close proximity or else they will notice you even if you stay still. So it kind of forces you to plan ahead a bit, and when I decide to strike I must go through with it. And if things turn south I have to quickly adapt, either with a stun object, shoot, or run away. In areas with regular infected and clickers, it really adds diversity to the stealth. Infected could see but clickers couldn't, which forced me to use cover cleverly, and choose my targets wisely based on enemy position.

    - the stun and strike combo feel satisfying to land especially when I got it in a tight situation.

    - the distraction to molotov combo is a great alternative to the stealth strats. Since I had to try and gather the infected into a close proximity before I can pull off the group kill. But when I do manage to bait them all together, then Molotov them all, it's a satisfying feeling.

    - the narrative, and voice acting is impeccable. The beginning where Abby and the dude found a city, the story didn't tell me who they were looking for or who Mel was, and what was the history behind these two. It's a mystery that drew me into the story, making me want to find out what what's going on.

    - the balance between defense an offense is perfect. Clickers are one hit KO, and the infected do a decent chunk of damage. So the game does encourage stealth. But if things go south the game also gives ample offensive abilities for me to survive.

    - checkpoints are really well placed. It doesn't bring me back all the way to the beginning but rather the last major encounter which is perfect, because it doesn't forced me to backtrack unnecessary gameplay.

    - I like how for most objects that interact with, my partner automatically chimes in.

After a while I caved and read the leaks anyway because I couldn't believe how bad the hate was. Even after reading the leaks, it didn't seem THAT bad. The first game was brutal and the second is no exception. People die in horrible ways. Also I did hate Abby's character from the start but she ended up growing on me. I dare say I like her more than how Ellie turned out in the end. It did feel a little long and some walking felt really unnecessary but overall, I loved the game because I got what I bought it for. Terrible game, it seems like they made this game simply to virtue signal and be a social justice warrior. Horrendous game, we get enough politics with social media "platforms" trying to brainwash people, now in games too? Pathetic. Don't waste your money on this terrible terrible game

The story presented is one that ask the player to think deeper about the violent acts most video games have play out with little meaning and consequence. There are narrative choices within this game that will undoubtedly ruffle some feathers. However, the experience doesn’t ask that you sympathize with every character along the way as much as it ask you to understand the meaning behind their actions. Our protagonist, Ellie is someone who isn’t without flaws and shortcomings but is a great representation for all the characters in this game in that they’re people trying to survive in a world that despite being unbelievable is portrayed in a very real light. She’s not one note but rather complex and thought out. The same can be said for most of the characters within the game. The story and it’s themes are without question one of (if not the) most daring ever put to the screen. The gameplay is responsive, visceral, quick and plays out with some of the most intensely satisfying action set pieces seen within the video game sphere. Some have said it is repetitive and to that I can only say that during my personal play through I found each encounter was filled with an array of options, tactics, and ideas I couldn’t wait to integrate. The gameplay won’t let you slack as the enemies are some of the most impressive ever seen; they communicate, are lethal, and the player has to think quickly to make it out of every battle. The graphics are unprecedented. The time spent capturing scenes, sets, atmospheres, etc. was plentiful and always worth it. There were more than a few times in which I simply had to stop to take it all in. I will always remember the first time I played though this game because It marks a true change in what I thought was possible graphically. All that being said, I write this as someone who idealistically doesn’t agree with every creative decision and character along the way. But from an objective standpoint the overall experience offered by The Last of Us Part 2 is one that without question is a brilliant, masterclass in video game design. At the end of the day, this Is a game that is breaking new grounds on every front: story, characters, gameplay, graphics, etc. I advise anyone and everyone to give it a try if able, regardless of any pre conceived notions or leaks. The Last of Us Part 2 is nothing short of a true masterpiece. Expand

There's a lot to say about this game because there's so many different things that make it enjoyable to different kinds of players. I'll just briefly mention the 3 most important things that just make this game stand out (in my opinion).

There's a lot to say about this game because there's so many different things that make it enjoyable to different kinds of players. I'll just briefly mention the 3 most important things that just make this game stand out (in my opinion).

1: The sheer visual quality of the game.
This game is beautiful. The quality of the graphics is honestly one of the best out there. Its amazing how even running on a PS4 it can push the visual this far (I have the standard PS4, not the Pro). Many times while playing I would just stop and just look at the scenarios, at the way the water changes how skins look, how the plants move dynamically in such a natural way, etc. Everything looks really, really good and really, really real. It's not an open world game, you have specific paths to follow in each part; so the developers were able to focus on every tiny detail of every tiny corner in the game. The characters look phenomenal from a technical standpoint. When I played the first The Last of Us some years ago I was blown away by the visuals, and now, years later, I felt the same again with Part II, even with high expectations. I would pay for this game again if I could play it on a high end PC.

If you find enjoyment in things simply for their aesthetic value, this game is gonna make you really happy.

    2: Really fun gameplay.
This game is simply fun. The combat evolved a lot from the first game, but it still feels like playing The Last of Us. Even if you don't care about the story, the game is still very entertaining (even though some cut-scenes might feel a bit too long or boring if you're not here for the story). You have a real sense of risk-versus-reward when choosing how to approach enemies. Resources are scarce like in the first game, and sneaking, distracting and ambushing enemies is extremely rewarding and and at the same time nerve-wrecking. Most of the time while sneaking I was at the edge of my seat, listening to steps and movements, nervously planing each new step, trying not to be seen. But when you fail being quite, the combat just becomes brutal. The fights are really intense, being it a ranged gun fight or a close contact combat. Enemies are smart and sometimes unpredictable, but the human enemies' A.I. can just sometimes be a little dumb, but not to the point where it throws you off, while combating the zombies is pretty much like it was on the first game (with a feel surprising exceptions, no spoiler though). You also have puzzles to solve to get through some parts, but they are not too complicated.

    3: Most importantly, the story.
The is where this game stands out the most from the first one. Yes, the visuals are a lot better and the gameplay is more fun, but the story is what makes Part II a proper sequel. I feel like this game is a lot more mature, and the path the writers chose to follow with this story is a lot riskier than what we saw in the first game. Riskier, but so well executed. The writing here is so much better crafted than many movies coming from Hollywood. Characters go through real development (especially Joel), while keeping the same traits that made them unique in the first place. The game drags the player into the characters' shoes, and makes us feel the same pain and burden anyone would be subject to feel in such a post apocalyptic world. Loss is real, and so are the small accomplishments from the characters throughout the game. The theme of vengeance is as present and intense as the theme of forgiveness and acceptance, and every character's decisions are organic and relatable in a way that their actions and and motivations make them feel more human than the realistic graphics were able to. Even the parts that are not surprising or unexpected carry a weight that makes them memorable. The simplicity of the very end of the game makes it perfect. All the internal struggles and battles, the plot twists and narratives that were so carefully written, conclude in a simple, yet beautifully executed end. The way I felt finishing this game for the first time was similar to the way I feel when I finish a good book: first, that weird emptiness inside caused from the realization that it's over; second, the sudden appreciation for every single character we got to know so deeply and every single event we experienced with them. Amazing gameplay and graphics don't cause this feeling, only experiencing a good story for the first time can cause it, and this is what makes this game unique.

This game is brutal, and yet so beautiful. It was the perfect way to end the PS4 generation, and it just blasts my expectations for the PS5 generation through the roof.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
