This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a SJW’s wet dream. From the first minute you meet the character Abby it starts: they just label the closed captioning as “woman”, when “she” is clearly a man-trans or not. It continues to throw this ideology in the players face by forcing you to play as this character and hurt the characters you fell in love with from the first game. They kill Joel, a beloved character, after trying to prove HE was the villain the whole time. Then Ellie doesn’t even kill Abby when she finally catches her/him? You have got to be kidding me. This game is nothing more than a diatribe on the evils of straight white males. Even if that was their goal they could have made a good story to go along with it; but they butchered the first game and the 2nd by how bad it was. Terrible dialogue, hardcore sex scenes, forgettable new characters. I could go on and on. Do NOT buy this game and support this drivel. Buy another copy of Days Gone. That is a good game. Or replay the first Last of Us. Expand

The zeros on other reviews are an insult to the amount of work and care that this game has. It makes me so sad to see it. Play the game to completion and you will see it’s not a 0/10. It’s a solid 8/9 but I am giving it a 10 to offset those silly zeros.

I am really disapointed, we waited 7 years for this game, then Joel died for no reason at all, they lied to and mislead us in the trailers, thinking we would play as Joel, this is digusting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played the first game two weeks before this one. I just never got around to it. I didn't realize until after the fact that it was a ps3 game. What they achieved there is nothing short of remarkable. Though I wasn't as moved as much as others, probably because I was pretty aware of some major beats before I even played, I would still place it as one of the top games.

With TLOU:P2 NaughtyDog did it again.

Though I didn't have to wait as long as most fans of the first game, the anticipation was just as high the closer I got to that midnight release. I consumed every bit of content released over the years that I had been missing or went over my head since I missed the first game. Part 2 Trailers, Gameplay Reels, Interviews, etc. Just so I could get up to speed. This was great for me since the first game was so fresh in my mind. Watching the trailers were already gripping. I could tell the story was already taking us to places I never expected to go. The clear theme of revenge was at the forefront of all the material, and Ellie was clearly taking center stage this time around. I kept wondering: What would be the cause of Ellie's rage? I could only come up with one answer.

    Joel is going to die.

Spoilers: That's exactly what happened. Despite having expected as much while going through the promotional content, I will admit that this was not something that I wanted to happen; especially during the act itself. I felt just like Ellie, wanting to scream out at the screen and the characters themselves to stop. Don't do this. Don't take him away from us. We need him.

Then it happened, and I was distraught. Spent. Filled with hate. Just like Ellie. From that moment forward I was on board with this revenge plot. I wanted to get back at these people as much as Tommy and Ellie; maybe even more so. Yet something kept bugging at me as I tore through the streets of Seattle to exact my revenge. Why had the developers put us in Abby's shoes early on in the game?

I got my answer as I kept playing. I hated the writers even more. I didn't want to play as Abby. I didn't want to empathize with her story or her character. I didn't want to feel for her more than I felt for Ellie, nor more than my hatred for what she had done. I especially didn't want to be rooting for her when we went up against Ellie in that cinema. Yet, NaughtyDog made me do it. They put me in her shoes and I felt everything I was supposed to, and I hated myself for it.

Nothing in the first game ever moved me as much as this game did. Where by the end of The Last of Us Part II I was conflicted. I did not know who I wanted to root for. I just wanted Ellie to stop. I wanted to tell her that it wasn't worth it. I wanted her to enjoy the life she has been given. That final flashback with Joel, and on to those final few scenes of the game, left me feeling so sad, hopeful, hurt, and fulfilled at the same time. So many emotions to even list.

And I think the game deserves every emotion it elicits.

TLOU:P2 is unrelenting. Many have talked about the brutal nature of the game, it's characters, and the world they live in, and what it takes for the player to get through it. It's not easy. Revenge is hard. Hate is difficult. There were times where it weighed on my heart so much that I just wanted a breather. I wasn't sure how I could continue like this. That's when NaughtyDog reminds you of the same hope we have for humanity. They give you moments that are the most beautiful and breathtaking than I have ever seen in a video game. You are, at the same time, shown what you are fighting for, remembering what these characters have lost, and longing for a time before certain people were taken away from us.

This game is so good at making you wrestle with what you're doing it probably should be a crime. In fact, a lot of people have considered it such, and there's even a petition to remake the game already floating around the web. People are mad. They think the developers are hypocritical to put us in situations where we have no choice but to kill in a game that ultimately doesn't want you to. I think that's simplifying things a little too much. There's a lot to unpack with TLOU, and if it wasn't for the emotional journey we wouldn't have a story worth exploring.

Moreover, people are really mad about Joel, and this is what I want to say about that. Having played the first game recently, Joel was not the most compelling character. In fact, what made Joel loveable at all was what Ellie brought out of him. The story of TLOU (part 1) was of Joel reclaiming his own humanity. Where we find him in Part 2, evident in the flashbacks, is that because of Ellie, he was able to find contentment and happiness because of this humanity. Ellie no longer needed him, but we find that all along, he needed her. Overall, his story was done.

Ellie's, in contrast, was just beginning, and now we know who she is without Joel.
The same is true with you.

A game that had it all. Last of Us 2 has everything except the thing that gave it such high praise from its predecessor, a good story, really disagree with the story direction. The visuals are amazing as expected. Combat is great, though I wish they balance out fighting infected and fighting humans, I thought humans were being fought too much. There's also some minor bugs in the game

Some folks may legitimately not like how events transpire early in the game. But, they are necessary to drive the narrative. This is a post-apocalyptic world. It's not all sunshine and rainbows. There are evil people in the world who are going to do evil things. As one other user put it... "This is not Ellie and Joel's road trip part 2".

That said, even if you didn't like the story, this game does not deserve a 0 score. Or anything below a 5 in my opinion. There's just so much that is outstanding in this game besides the story.

Dear Naughty Dog or whomever this may concern. (Story Script)

The game's mechanics are not very innovative. The graphics are pretty good. If the story was good, which is the main reason why anyone would get attached to a game...this game would truly receive a 9.x from me. However, looking at what you have delivered.. I can't help myself to hate whoever us responsible for the story.

Don't get me wrong. I don't care about the sexuality of any character as long as the character has substance and is important to the plot.
What TLOU2 did was not very good story telling. Character development was pretty bad too.... If they at least had changed the story chronologically a little bit, it could have been a 5.5+ in rating.

I want to REMIND everyone that we are GAMERS and we don't care for a game like TLOU where it is solely about survival, beating the bad guys that want to harm us or zombies to contain a moral message at the end with a very bad script and lots of confusion and story telling that is worse than Game Of Throne's Final Season. It was filled with so much political and moral bull crap. We already have to deal with it IRL everyday.

Why do you have to drag this into a VIDEO GAME??? Don't ruin fictional worlds with your narrative. A little bit isn't bad but what you delivered was nothing but a novel for extreme moral activists. The person who you hired for the story telling should get fired.

Look at the reviews, btw, that's not a brigade. These are gamers who have been disappointed by your story telling which is quite justified. Your JjjjjjjOurRnaLisTs that have reviewed it with 10s are not even real TLOU fans, they review games for a living, for them to survive, they have to lay in a good word.

You know it anyway Naughty Dog, have fun and congratulations on alienating your fanbase. It showed pretty well in history where it leads to. Go woke go broke. I hope you enjoy LTOU2s entry into history as a failure for the fans and die hard gamers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What this game does well, it does very well. The graphics are phenomenal and the environments are beautiful. The gameplay itself is quintessentially Naughty Dog and it always feels like it’s struggling between a shooter, an adventure game and an RPG. The addition of a dodge button feels a little forced (I’ve never come across a game using L1 to dodge) and, at times, it can lead to very annoying game overs.

Where the game really falls down is the plot -- for me it wasn’t so much the content that annoyed me but the order. Naughty Dog shot themselves in the foot by making gamers believe that this was a game about Joel and Ellie, and that they’d be spending all their time with the pair on an adventure like the first game. It’s ironic that Naughty Dog wanted to hide Abby as a playable character before release when, really, that part of the story should have come first, instead of painting Abby as the antagonist and then expecting the player to hold any empathy towards her.

Instead, imagine playing as Abby in Seattle for the first half of the game, only to discover that Ellie was behind killing her friends. Then flashback to Jackson and the event that started Ellie’s quest for revenge. That would have made me want to care about Abby more and maybe feel slightly better about Ellie’s actions, instead of turning the whole thing into some ‘dig two graves’ revenge story.

There are also things in the story that either should have been fleshed out a lot more or completely discarded. The Seraphites were made to be a much bigger deal than they turned out to be and, ultimately we didn’t learn a lot about them. And the third act? (I honestly don’t know if it can even be called that) I felt like it was only half there, like someone forgot to put the rest of Abby and Lev’s story into the game.

I enjoyed the game, I don’t understand why it was being sold as ‘not fun’ when, ultimately, it is what it is; a game. It’s not high art. And that’s the point that no one seems to want to admit. And I think the notion that it was trying to push some agenda is, frankly, laughable. The only agenda I saw in this game is that people can be petty and pretty terrible to each other (ironically, the backlash against this game has kind of proved Naughty Dog right on that one).

It’s hard not to feel misled about what the game was supposed to be, but does that make it a bad game? No. Does that make it a bad sequel? Maybe. Yes, the plot had holes in it and it had lots of elements that fans of the original didn’t like but does it deserve to be called the worst game ever? No. Should you play it if you’re a hardcore fan of the original? That’s up to you.

The Last of Us Part 2 is a new game, it’s a different game. If you want more of the same as the first game then you might be disappointed. I liked the first game, and I enjoyed this one despite its flaws. I didn’t go into this expecting perfection just like I don’t replay the first game and experience perfection (let’s be honest, seven years on, the first game is janky and annoying to play, even if the story is amazing).

All in all, it’s not a bad game, people just need to get over it and Naughty Dog need to get over themselves. Neil Druckmann need to take a seat next to David Cage, Peter Molyneux and Sean Murrey, and try to understand that games are divisive and the way that this game was handled caused most of this drama.

They can't however make up for the awful storyline and terrible dialogue. It seems like the writers forgot who the characters from TLOU were and ran out of original ideas. They added in THREE 'surprise' pregnancy scenes... the first one was fine but three? They try to make you feel sorry for Abby but it just doesn't work, I'm not going to forgive someone for killing Joel because she's nice to her dog. None of the new characters other than Jesse are likable but he dies and is then pretty much forgotten about for the rest of the game despite being Ellie's best friend. I could go on but the story is awful, I could've written a better one myself and I am in no way qualified to be a story writer. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great game. More of the same as the original minus some awkward control issues which is ideal. Can be a bit repetitive at times but the story is sound. It deftly goes into the grey area between good and evil and the adage "an eye for an eye..." flows throughout. The fact they managed to put me on team Abby is quite a feat since Ellie is a fan favourite. Some have been critical of the choice to kill off Joel, however it follows perfectly from the original story. What he did was not something a good man should walk away from and it plays well into how Ellie then goes on a bloody rampage since he plays as her father figure. The ending was convoluted but effective. The addition of another random group of bad guys was an odd one and tbh I'd have enjoyed more gameplay in california. The themes of there being no safe havens in the apocalypse weren't very well developed but I guess that wasn't the overall thesis. I've heard comments about an lgbtq agenda which is absurd. If having characters who happen to be trans or lesbian is an issue to some I hope they have a nice cellar to live in so they'll spare us from their bigotry. Game was worth the wait. Good stuff. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. One of the biggest disappointments of all time. Game of thrones season 8 storytelling, gameplay honestly isnt much different from the first and yes that is important. People say “nobody plays for the gameplay” my ass. Look at death stranding it had a amazing story but aint nobody give a crap cause its gameplay was boring. This isnt boring gameplay wise but it is pretty bland. I gave it a 1 instead of a 0 because at least the graphics are significantly improved and hell, pretty groundbreaking. Its a beautiful game visually. They sacrificed everything about the game in order to force abby on everyone. It was even advertised as a joel and ellie game again and he dies 15-20 minutes in. They altered game material to show joel in the trailers but it was false advertising as they weren’t actually real, just changed scenes to make you believe this game is about joel and ellie when its really you playing a majority as this new character who is one of the most unlikeable protagonists in history. No amount of story saves the game either, the ending is horrible, the reasoning for actions is terrible. They use the cliche overused revenge is bad and “maybe we are the monsters after all” plotlines and all that moral high ground crap thats always used. Cause life always plays out like perfect karma right? The story is like luke blowing up the death star and then one of the stormtroopers onboard it had a kid who comes and kills luke instantly in the following movie for revenge. Joel even saves the new characters life right before she kills him and she doesnt even ask for his side of the story (the characters name is abby but i am saying new character so even people who havent played can tell who i am referring too). Honestly dont even want to give it a 1 but i feel like it gets that much cause of graphics and smooth unbuggy gameplay. It has good animations as well. The mocap is really well done. But metacritic is deleting low score reviews because of bombing even though people are bombing for a reason. Yet the people counter bombing or just straight up fanboy 5 star reviews all can stay. Its straight up altered scoring at that point. If the peoples opinion as a total doesnt matter then what is a point of user scores. Oh, user scores matter if they are good for AAA games. Unless its something like fallout 76 or anthem. They let people be honest on those. But not this lmao. Fanboys run the site and only let it be unbiased if it goes along with their views. Expand

I love the diverse representation in this game, love the graphics and the game play, I wish I could say that this game is great because that would be amazing and encouraging for a game with this level of diversity. There are some great moments, but the game just falls flat...

The issue with this game is not the story itself, it's not the characters, or even the event that happens early on which angered everyone (I personally think that needed to happen for the game to exist)
The problem is how the story has been told, it's the pacing, it's simply the sheer amount of time you are forced to play as an unrelatable , unlikable character. They could have told this characters part of the story in a quarter of the time they did (or going back and forth between this character and Ellie) and it honestly would have been more effective.

I can see why so many are disappointed with this game, what could have been something great was completely ruined by how the story was told. The heavy handed approach and trying to force empathy just had the opposite effect and made you feel frustrated and bored with the game.
This is the real reason I believe the game has had such a bad reception from the community it was made for, on top of that, the contrasting high reviews from critics just angers the community more and really shows how disconnected critic reviews are these days. It feels like we can't even honestly express our displeasure with something without being told we're "wrong".

At the end of the day, we're all just disappointed with a game we were so invested in emotionally and had so much potential to be great.

Its about pointing out the nastiness of the "gaming press" as a whole.

Tired about hearing from Anita Sarkeesian getting her hands on games production is just hitting bottom, she clearly is not a person who loves games, as I see, she is part of the mob who literaly ruins games for everyone. Its the collusion of a media that must rate this thing as a "Perfect 10" just because of its inclusivity, forgetting about everything wrong above it, misleading people to buy it, not giving a dam about how interesting of compelling it might be.

its just wrong to sell this as a "secuel" when clearly is a fanfiction made by 2 people alone, Anita and Neil, and to top everything, firing the original writer of the first game is just a stab in the back for all those who love the first game.

Leaving this as a "Perfect 10", will just let them know "See, people love our product, love how we treat our employees, love how I use this media to subvert my own fetishes without getting caught, and of course, people love how we treat the very people that make the game you love like c rap, to the point to be bretrayed by them on the leaks"

Its disrespectful, its nasty and its a horrible example on how a "winning" game should manage its creation and criticism.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics: Graphically this game is stunning in every way. The attention to detail is so in-depth that it is easy to see how much love and care was put into this department. This is without a doubt the highlight of this game.

Gameplay: The mechanics in this game feels very repetitive and almost completely similar to the prior installment. It's a constant move around loot and shoot, with some occasional puzzles in between. There are points in the game where it feels like the gameplay comes to a very slow halt for a time.

Story: The story starts rather nice and feels like a very warm welcome to a long-desired game. However, this welcome is soon spoiled by the very controversial scene in which Abby kills off Joel. His death feels rather early and shoe-horned in to move the plot along. The story feels all over the place in the middle to end game. You spend time making connections to characters with Abby, all while knowing they are going to die later on, because of Ellie's section of the story you know that these characters meet their fate at Ellie's hands. You basically kill a character to learn about hem 2 to 4 hours later in the game. Now, the ending of the game I know most are upset with, I understand why they feel this. You spend upwards of 20 hours in a revenge plot for Ellie to kill Abby, and right when you are about to achieve this goal it feels like a total slap to the face when Ellie spares Abby instead of getting her revenge. However, I understand that by this point in the story that Ellie might not want to kill anymore, she's been traumatized by Joel's death and witnessing the many losses of her friends. The only point in this game where the story feels actually well told is during the flashbacks, Abby included, seeing the duo of Joel and Ellie again is enough to bring a tear to your eye. Just seeing the father-daughter connection again made me smile for a short time.

Characters: Almost no character in this story is ever actually developed, minus Abby, Ellie, and Lev. The side characters that travel along with you get very sudden and stupid deaths. Just about every time someones dies in this game, they are never mentioned again. Abby's reaction to seeing Manny die in front of her is just to run away, she never even says his name or mentions anything about him ever again. This formula sticks to every side character that dies. As I've said prior, the characters are barely fleshed out at all, and the little you do learn about them is pointless.

Voice Acting: The voice acting in this game is fairly decent, minus some parts in which there is some rather odd dialogue that just feels out of place.

Overall, I feel if the story was told in a reorganized manner (No plot elements changed) so that the story flows better, I could've enjoyed the game a bit more. Characters that I want to make a connection with just feel hollow, like cardboard cutouts. The gameplay can be repetitive and boring at times. The graphics really carry this game to the best it possibly can.

Who didn't really understand the first part - which is OK - should definitely avoid the second part. Gameplay is OK, but there are other titles that do most things much better. This is not enough to enjoy the game.
But who - like me - after the credits of the first part half an hour after the end of the credits still sat speechless on the sofa and wondered what just happened and had to process the emotional rollercoaster ride of the last minutes will find a worthy continuation in the second part.

The established world is meaningfully expanded and captivates with breathtaking variety concerning the artistic realization. Not only the graphics are "awesome", but also the choice of locations and their extremely detailed elaboration is fascinating.

The story answers most of the open questions of the first part, but also dares to take new paths with unconventional and courageous steps in the demands on the player. It's not a game like many others and dares a lot of new things - a player who gets involved in the game (especially emotionally) will find a pearl that is rare. But TLoU2 is definitely not a game for players who just want to be entertained. It is a further development of "video games" - some like it, some don't. The days when the whole community was feverishly waiting for a title and loved the game equally are over. Long gone.

TLoU2 may or may not please you. The game forces the player not to like it, it's up to the player to find out.But if you didn't question the first part and didn't get the real masterpiece of the first part, TLoU2 will torture you. Whoever has opened up this level of the first part for himself - have fun! ... or good entertainment? Cruelly good experience? I don't know what to wish the inclined player. Only one thing you have to bring along for sure - time. If you play the game for an hour in the evening and stretch it over weeks, you will probably not be able to experience the full spell of the game.

    Many thanks to Naughty Dog!

The Last of Us is one of my favorite video games in existence. I'll even take that a step further and say it's one of my favorite overall media experiences, including books, movies, games, and anything else aimed at entertainment.

When I put the first game down, I was short of breath. Something huge had just happened, and I don't mean in-game. I mean that I was changed, moved, and bettered as a person for having experienced it. This sounds like an exaggeration, and people don't often say these things about video games, but I believe it with every fiber of my being.

Since that happened back in 2013, there have only been a handful of entertainment experiences that have affected me in such a way. There have been a couple episodes of certain TV shows, and a couple movies. There have even been a couple video games I'd say touched my heart in the same way, such as God of War. Today, in 2020, I can add another of these experiences to my list: The Last of Us Part II.

I have never in my life been as disappointed as I am today, as I see the absolute travesty of a user review score on Metacritic for this game. The people involved in this game, in any way, do not deserve this. The reviews I'm reading are so outlandishly wrong that it's an absolute shame knowing that some potential future fans will be turned away by them. In my opinion, the low reviews are based on people who couldn't handle the emotional turmoil thrown their way. This game is not a game meant to make you feel good. It is there to shatter your heart into a thousand pieces. It is there to unravel the part of your being that makes you trustful and naive. It is there to force a harsh reality on you, and help you to understand that no reality is out of your control.

I could go into the specifics of the game's content itself, but there are other reviews for that. I could explain that the stealth mechanics are slightly off, the combat situations are frustratingly difficult to read, and that there is more "cutscene" in this game than gameplay. You can create your own opinion on these things, but even despite them, this game is a 10/10 for me. It is the best video game I have ever played, and it is deserving of praise.

Do not lose hope with the sea of negative reviews. These people are upset that the story didn't go the way they wanted it. They are upset because Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann took risks with their beloved characters to engage you in a deeply disturbing, yet rewarding narrative. I expected there to be backlash, but the response I've seen to this game is a complete betrayal of those who love stories that bring you real emotion, drama, and suspense.

The Last of Us Part II is an incredible game, and an incredible experience. Do not miss out on this game just because of what you've heard from others. Do yourself a favor; see and experience it for yourself.

Quite honestly anyone giving this game a 0 is just being ridiculous and petty. I get it, I loved the first one too and Ellie is a beloved character but c'mon guys. So much love was put into this game and other than the story, which I will get into in a minute, it's nearly flawless. The graphics are a 10, the sound design is a 10, the music is haunting, the voice acting is top notch...how can anyone possibly take a 0 score seriously? You don't like the story, fine, that's a valid opinion, but it's so childish to brigade the entire team at Naughty Dog because you disagree with the writers.
So as I said before, from a technical aspect this is among the best of this console generation and arguably toeing the line of the next. I am sure that there will be a PS5 edition that will blow us all away but I find it hard to criticize the quality of this game. Two minor nit-picks: Ellie's wet hair was too shiny to be believed and I was constantly jumping at the sound of my own footsteps at the barest touch of the stick.
The game play was also incredible but truly not much different then the first installment. Again, it's hard to find any fault in this area and would likely be attributed to my ineptitude anyway. I had fun throughout the entire game and played long stretches at a time until I finished up on the third day. I can count the number of games that keep me that engaged on one hand. It's fun and exciting and challenging enough on normal difficulty without being tedious.
Now, let's finally talk about the story. If I were to play this game without ever having played the first one and having an emotional connection to the characters going in, I probably would be just fine with it. Did it feel a bit heavy handed? Yes it did. Did that bother me? Not a bit. This is (obviously) a game about the futility of revenge, the ignorance of blind allegiance to a cause, and the real horror of violence. However, we all have played the first one or else we wouldn't be here right? I definitely had a problem with Ellie's moral decay. To an extent, I accepted the reasoning behind her rage but much like Dina's reactions as the game progressed, it became too much to understand. Eventually I grew to dislike her character and THAT was a huge disappointment as a fan of the first game. How could our beloved Ellie ever choose hate over love? WHY would you make her do that? This is almost certainly the crux of all the negative reviews.
If I take a step back from that glaring distraction, I will say that the protagonists were very interesting although maybe not as much as the cannibals from the first game. The Wolves were the stereotypical para-military group hungry for power, nothing too exciting. The Scars were pretty cool actually but I questioned their motivation as well, it seems like they had a pretty good thing going for them on their island. Would have liked to know more about them, especially the religion and their messiah. Maybe there is a DLC planned for this.
So, there ya have it. It's sole detractor is a big one and I would probably give it an 6 or 7 based on the that alone. It's a big story, and certainly engaging, but the way they did Ellie really let the fans down. However, the game as a whole is easily a solid 8.5 because of how well made it is; I rounded up to a 9 to offset the inflated (and undeserved) number of low scores. It's beautiful and horrible and punches you in the gut like you expect. The infected make your skin crawl and every basement I entered had my stomach in knots. I absolutely, unequivocally recommend it. You will be missing out if you listen to all the idiots down voting it like spoiled children.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us 2 has seemed a good game in terms of gameplay and graphics, the feelings it conveys are perfect. But there are some details in the story that I didn't like, like being forced to play half the game with a character other than Ellie. I don't think any of us wanted to play with Abby since she is the person who killed Joel and we have no attachment to her and we also want her to pay for it. In addition to the game, it lacks a very important part: it allows us to make decisions on our own, such as giving a specific answer in a moment of conversation or making the decision to kill a character or let him live. Or that at least the game has two alternate endings, one in which Ellie dies at the hands of Abby and the other in which Ellie kills Abby and returns with Dina to the farm and can already live in peace because she avenged Joel. Horrible story. In fact there was no story. Just some mediocre writer trying to push his agenda. Don't bother playing this trash.

TLOU2 is rank #1 best game ever. It's a story about mercy and transgenders who need more representation in media

There is no other #1 game

The story deals with father figures that test the humanity of the girls involved . As the the non linear story tries to explain the motives of why torture and the brutal senseless violence is common within the human communities , the usual suspect seems again the source of evil . The end of the game may be disappointing to some but has a spiritual connection where the sanity of mercy is a welcome vision . Expand

It breaks my heart that the so called writer took the direction they did with this story. To watch such a beloved franchise be destroyed just to push a LBGTQ and SJW ideology is criminal. If i were an investor in this company i would sue them. Its one thing to have a progressive story that is inclusive of peoples sexual preferences but to kill off the white straight father figure of ellie just to push their garbage agenda is disgusting. You could literally feel the palpable hatred of straight white men when the trans thing bashed his head in. The game play was kinda outdated in some ways and in some ways it seemed vastly improved. I love that they expanded the area size. I would like to see them bounce back and hopefully learn their lesson from ever doing something as irresponsible and unfair to their loyal fan base again. I have to say after hearing about the spoilers, I decided not to buy the game and watched the whole game on stream. So i can't say much about how the game plays. It was pretty standard naughty dog game-play. Not great, not bad. The graphics are probably one of the best for PS4. Also the soundtrack seems great again.

But that all means nothing if the Story cant support the rest of the game.
What it all comes down to, is that fans of the first game got a kick in the balls. Or to be more literal, a golf club to the face. For me it was long long before the leaks clear, that Joel would die. The fact that Joel would die isn't even the matter. The Problem is how he dies.
The biggest part of why the first game was so great, is the character progression between Ellie and Joel. As close as those two persons became in the end, as attached we became as players to these characters. So for one of these characters to die, there has to be meaning behind this death.
Joel dies such a meaningless death only to set Ellie on a revenge mission which doesn't even end with any satisfactory conclusion.
Why not let Joel life until the end, to sacrifice himself to help Ellie survive? That would be a fine conclusion to both games. Instead they make Joel look like an Idiot and just killed him off.

If you played the first game for the story, you will probably hate this game.

Great story, it gets you in the feels. Especially what happens in the beginning. It is a great journey that Ellie takes. If you played and loved the first one, you will also love this one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Such an emotional experience! At times, this game felt like playing an action movie. The graphics and attention to detail are spot on for Naughty Dog. By the end cut scene I felt as exhausted as Ellie. Playing as Abby really grew on me. The characters in her life felt real, complex, and three dimensional. I saw all the cutscene leaks that came out in April and I was not prepared for how truly out of context they turned out to be. The cut scenes have so much weight after you’ve been through the journey of playing to get there. This is a one of a kind game that is a brilliantly executed story. Expand

I love tomb raider. I played it all the time as a kid. It's really sad to see that everyone assumes the pointing out of a terribly put together story involving women means that everyone's upset there are so many women. A bad story is a bad story.

The gameplay itself was pretty **** cool. The graphics are breath taking. That being said, this is a story game. The story is full of holes

The gameplay itself was pretty **** cool. The graphics are breath taking. That being said, this is a story game. The story is full of holes and the player won't feel invested in the majority of the characters. There is no shock or sadness seeing the majority of the people die. The character development outside of Abby and Ellie (maybe even just outside of Abby) is absent.

This is a zombie killing simulator with a bunch of people running into each other and spouting gibberish. If you feel that should cost 60 dollars, this is the game for you.

For me, the game is just a mix of the contemporary agendas, they ruin the chance of a clean history, and is just no enjoyable anymore.
They kill the great narrative of the first game for something that doesnt fells right.

I dont agree with people saying they ruined this or that character. Nothing was ruined. These are the characters we love and know from the first game, but this game shows you the cold hard reality of a post apocalyptic world without sugarcoating everything. There are no winners or heroes in this world. Its not a fairly tale and never was. It answers important questions of human nature and behavior.

The graphics are out of this world, i played it in 4K HDR and its almost CG level good. The animations are mind blowing. The combat is visceral and ruthless.

Regardless what you think about the story. This is the best game Naughty Dog ever made and there are NO better games currently on the market regarding the exclusives.

It sparks debates and it should be, because forgettable art is not art. Even the haters and trolls talking about it. Even they are wrestling with their emotions and thinking about it constantly. You have to examine this game. Think about it. There are two sides of everything.

When you meet with a stranger he or she has a life too like yours. Its just from a different perspective you wont see everyday, but here we seen everything and we have the chance to process it with all the knowledge. The knowledge of both sides. The coin.

You have to logically think trought that what was justified in the charaters actions. Where is the line? Is it worth it?

Am i lost control? taking one more life will satisfy my quest for revenge?

You know the common theme when we talking about revenge is not knowing when to stop. An eye for an eye, but its not enough because you want to see the other one suffer so you take more and more people from their sides and in the meantime you risk the life of your people on your side.

Revenge has consequences. Taking a life has consequences and these consequences will bite you in the ass in this kind of world because there are no laws no society no rules.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
