Great gameplay and had the structure to become GOTY. However, a forced and very poorly made storyline destroys this game and quite frankly makes you wish that they stopped after making the first game which was good. Huge shame.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Metacritic made it so hard to post this review. It kept crashing and saying error 500 and noticing the high reviews are being legitimately bombed to save this game it's just unreal . There is less bombing and more actual opinion about the game on the negative reviews scores than the overrated ones. I notice how the majority of the reviews for the game being amazing do not point out it's flaws. Whereas the negative reviewers give reasons and also explain why the game is goos. So unfortunately I have lost faith in the gaming industry and seen it's true colours even on metacritic. Regardless here's my review. Joel's character is weaker and his demeanor is smaller and not so interesting. The new character Abby also has little interesting points. In the first game Joel gave us meaning to be interested he lost someone close who was innocent. Ellie also is innocent and being chased and protected which is interesting. In this game Abbie's father was not innocent so no one cares if he dies. They made a clip of him regretting the surgery but it doesn't make you like him. There wasn't any scene that makes you like Abbie in a way you want to help her agenda knowing the first story. And the creators make you play this very lake character for hours. Sex scene was disgusting and unrealistic. Graphics great but I buy a game that is made for the story for the story and the story was over the top violent and sexual in a lesbian or gay way. Which is fine. But way too focussed on it to be enjoyable. Expand

Expand

The Last of Us 2 tries so hard to fit into its part one shoes that it lost the tone which made it so great. Some things are great like the graphics and motion capture are almost perfect. The linear lvl design is almost all the time great and the melee combat feels real. But there are things which are truly not good from a players standpoint. The standard AI feels sometimes more dumb than the first one, yes I know you can rank the difficulty up, but that only helps to a certain degree. I wished for more enemy diversity to be more precise the infected. It feels like, "just more of the same". And the last important point is the story. All the different emotions I felt in first few minutes into the first one where unbelievable. There was only one moment I felt something for any of the characters and that one was Joel. All the others even Elli felt like only driven by one emotion and my empathy for anyone was very limited. Everything in the story felt like such a generic revenge story and there are many games which did it better. I watched the ending in disbelieve and sat there for a minute and asked myself: "that was it?" After such a long time playing this game(the playing time was for me about 20-30h I am not sure right now) it didn´t felt satisfying. I am truly, truly heartbroken for how they decided to handle the story archs. Was it a bad game? No, from the gameplay standpoint I didn´t think so. Was it a good game? No, the story destroyed my experience completely. The hole plot from the first is perfect. The second one feels like: "We have to put this theme on it, REVENGE, REVENGE, REVENGE. No other thing has a place in it." I will play the first one, again and again but this game is done for me. Sad but true.. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Starting off with what I liked most about that game was the game play it reminded me a lot of the Last of Us I. The graphics were gorgeous and it set the scene for most of the game, I also liked the mechanics but that's about all I truly liked about the game. Now the story... it was okay I was not a big fan of the story. And at times the story just seemed to drag on and I just wanted to the game to FINALLY get to the point, the goal of Ellie. Which did not continue until close to the end of Abby's play through. Which mind you was long and for the most part the worst part of the game not counting Joel's death of course (I will explain my opinion on that later). Abby's play through was just boring to me and I just wanted to get that part out of the way. The one thing that I despised about this part of the game was having to hurt Ellie! For the life of me I wanted no part of that but it had to be done... Now for Joel's death it seemed unnatural and so out of character of him, Joel just, he would never do what he did that resulted in that ambush. I strongly felt that Joel did not deserve to die like that, I'M not saying he did not deserve to die eventually because the guy literally decided to let humanity rot to save Ellie. BUT he did not deserve to have his head bashed in with a gulf club, know I'm not saying he should have died in this action packed scene filled with guns a-blazing or something like that. I personally thought that if you were gonna kill of this beloved character that was loved by all, one of the people of my all time favorite duo. At least have him die protecting the people he cared about like, Ellie or Tommy. I personally expected him to die protecting Ellie from and enemy or an infected not from a gulf club. But other than that I will say the game is okay... but I'm not playing through that again (way to long). But I feel there were better story's that they could have come up with for the TLOU2. Oh and... give the Neil Druckmann a break he's human too. You may not like the game but you shouldn't go harassing the guy. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The squeal to a quite loved and passion filled game. Waiting years for a rather large disappointment. On the surface the game is quite beautiful, with rich lush environments with a good sound design. The game feels MUCH more fluid compared to its predecessor, but the lack of care in story writing truly hurt this game.

From the moment Joel walks into a trap that makes literally no sense for his and his brothers character. Considering they have 20+ years of survival experience and jaded from the pain of the past. Why were they so trusting? It doesn't make sense for them.

Add on the weird swap of character for Ellie at the very end of the game when she can end the one who has caused her all this pain, made her lose fingers, made her lose her girl. She can end what she had started. Then she doesn't, cause of a flashback? It feels fake, it feels like they want to create a third game with the new character Abby... Of which let's discuss the elephant in the room.

Abby, the murder of Joel, and forced to play as her for 10+ hours. With an awkward sex scene to disdain for the character. No one enjoyed her, at least I didn't. Her sections of the game are not awful but it feels so wrong playing the murderer of someone we have loved so dearly for years.

Gameplay feels although much SMOOTHER than the first, it is still the same spamming of punches and even worse gun play. The increase of environments made stealth and playing slow far more rewarding. The failure to increase the AI's intelligence, to improve on the previous systems, and to provide more tools to use the new areas more effectively. Makes the game feel very repetitive very quickly. Even more so if you just played TLOU1 before buying this one (In order to refresh your memory).

The music, visuals, and sound design do carry a large portion of the game, but it feels as empty as the world they are in.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well the Last of Us 2 was it better then the first one? Definitely not.

Did that made it a bad game? Hell no!

    Gameplay : 10

    Graphics : 10

    Characters : 5.5

    Story : 7

(I only explain the last two because those need explanation)

    Characters

Well this was in my opinion one of the worst parts in the game.. Were the first game really nailed it the second part just fell flat on his face. Not all characters were bad don't get me wrong The original cast like Ellie Tommy were good of course and I also really liked Lev. Jimmy wasn't that bad but Dina.. ohgod I really did not like her she was dull and boring. she was just a pain in the ass. And I think the biggest problem with her is that Ellie already is in love with her before the game started . in that way it is harder for the player to also immediately like/love her. If the bonding between those two evolved as the story progressed and if the kissing scene was saved for in Seattle it would have been better in my opinion. (and just skip the pregnancy) And Abby.. she was just extremely unlikable and I think I don't have to say the reason why. Manny as wel (one of Abby's friends) he is even worser then Dina. He was one of the most annoying characters in the game and I was glad when Tommy finally shot a bullet trough his head.

    Story

So the the story which is the most debatable topic for most.

Let me start with this it wasn't a bad story at all IF this was with all new characters you haven't met before.(and if they changed the ending a bit) Because I totally get what they are trying to tell with this story : "revenge is bad". Telling it from 2 points of view is really interesting to do something I always wanted to see in a game. But because you have already played as Joel and Ellie and bonded with them and even love them. There is no way this story would ever work with these characters because even tho Joel is no hero what he did in the first game you will never like or even understand Abby at all. This is in my opinion the biggest flaw of the story.

So the first 22 hours I really enjoyed the story even tho they killed Joel I kind off saw it coming and understood why they did it. I just preferred it was a little bit different. But it gave me a lot of motivation to play this game and enjoying it. Even tho it sounds like a cheap revenge story it was fun to experience the journey with Ellie to kill the people who murdered Joel. Were I preferred to travel with Tommy you were stuck with Dina.. but at least she finds out she is pregnant and Ellie could continue the journey on her own. This is where I really started to enjoy the story it was really well written and you felt Ellie her taste for revenge but also felt her pain and happiness in the flashbacks with Joel. and then this happens the story continues with Abby in like the worst timing ever.. she killed Jimmy knocked Tommy to the ground and held Ellie at gun point. and then the game decided to start over again at Day 1 but now as Abby which kind of ruined the game for me because I rushed trough it didn't explore that much because I just wanted to now what happens at the theatre. I have to admit that her story gets interesting though with the war against the scars and the kid Lev that you are trying to save from them and the climax of her story looks absolutely gorgeous. But I just kept thinking why didn't we do this with Ellie instead. because it was definitely possible! I totally understand that they want to tell the story about these two factions being at war, but why don't you save it for another game or let us experience it with Ellie instead. Well after a while you are back in the theatre.. and then you have to fight Ellie which I did with a pain in my heart. but in the end Abby decides to don't actually kill Ellie which made her a little bit more likable because she sort of accepted revenge isn't everything. But I kind of hoped the story would have end there with Ellie murdering Abby. Because what happens after this I really did not enjoy at all. It was not bad at all but it was so pointless that made me question why even do it at all? So long story short after a while Ellie goes after Abby again only to decide to not kill her while she was drowning her because she got a flashback of Joel. Abby leaves and Ellie starts crying and I was flabbergasted about what just happened and I said to myself "this ending just made the whole game pointless." while I definitely understand what they are trying to say with this story it just does not work in this way with these characters.

My conclusion is : It could have been a masterpiece IF they cut Abby's part out and told some of her story with Ellie instead, and if they altered the ending OR if they just told this story with completely new characters.

But in the end I respect their decisions I just hoped the story went a little bit different.

Let's hope they will end Ellie character arch in a way everyone would like it in part 3.

Even though Joel's death happened in the game and the ending was a little disappointing, but understandable, because Ellie felt guilty, the game itself is incredible. Graphics, music, sound effects ... I particularly liked the story, even though it has some details that leave something to be desired. I think the people who were most disappointed were those who waited 7 years for a continuation of Joel's story, but I think Naughy Dog made it clear from the beginning that the game would be more focused on the story of Ellie and the new character Abby. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok. I think i should start with the cool things: First of all, the gameplay is just like the original game, so that's a good thing. The music really fits, and the visuals are really beautiful. I can hear, i can see, and i can play in a wonderful way.

So, why do i give it a 3?
    The story, THE **** STORY

WHY DID THEY DO MY DEAR JOEL DIRTY LIKE THAT? WHY?
Because muh revenge. Just because of that.

I'm going to be absolutely honest. I wouldn't have minded if Joel had died. BUT DEMONIZING HIM AND BEATING HIM TO A PULP? REALLY? There are better ways to manage things like that.
Now, Abbie. ABBIE. I really had a bad time playing as her, i couldn't forgive her for Joel, and the only thing i liked about her side of the story was the Scar brothers (though they killed one of them, so..... Yeah, that was really **** overall)

Another thing i found really sad and disappointing was the ending. YOU DO A WHOLE **** ADVENTURE TO SEATTLE, YOU TRY TO AVENGE JOEL (your "dad"/parental figure), WHICH GOT BEATEN UP AND KILLED IN FRONT OF YOU, YOUR (PREGNANT) GIRLFRIEND ALMOST GETS KILLED, YOUR FRIEND/BIOLOGIC DAD OF YOUR KID GETS SHOT IN THE FACE AND DIES RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU, So you spend a long time trying to rebuild your life, with constant traumas from the past, and your "uncle" (which was also deformed by the same bad guy) finally gives you a hint of where THE VILLAIN may be.
So you decide to risk it all to finally get that sweet revenge. YOU FIND HER, YOU FIGHT HER, YOU WIN! But nooooooooo, i can't kill her, She aint that bad of a person, she cares about his friend (which you don't know at all so why would you care?) SO WHAT WILL I DO? I'LL SET HER FREE! I'LL **** LET HER GO WITHOUT ANY KIND OF REASON!.
What i'm trying to say is, the story really should've at least allowed you to have a choice in the matter, because for me, i would've definitely killed Abbie, without a doubt (but that doesn't mean that everyone will have the same idea as me, so it would've been great to have a choice).

Now, to wrap things up, i will say this: If you like it, good for you, thou art a free individual. BUT, that doesn't mean that i will enjoy the same things as you. For me this game was really good, a solid sequel to the masterpiece that was the first TLOU, but for every right it gave me, like the gameplay or the soundtrack, it kicked me in the balls with the story. I enjoyed the first half of the game with Ellie, though i feel that some traits of her where changed (but since she grew up it's all right); i DESPISED the second half with Abbie, and the end was pretty disappointing overall. So yeah, that's why i think it deserves a 3

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wow... just wow. I struggle to put my disappointment into words Because this was one of the angriest I’ve ever been playing a video game. I played the first last of us back when it came out in 2013 and absolutely loved it. The characters were flawed but like-able, the banter between Joel and Ellie was funny and heartfelt, and the story was phenomenal. You could say I was excited for the sequel to this game but honestly it’d be an understatement. So when i played and beat the 20 or so hour long story of the Last of Us 2 you could probably imagine how i reacted when Everything I loved about the last game this game was completely devoid of. The first gut-punch was the killing off of Joel a mere couple of hours into this gruelingly long game, I understand you don’t always get what you want when it comes to games and who they kill off but i felt this was completely unnecessary especially since it happened so early and at the hands of a new character. Who is this new character? Well she’s the main antagonist of the game, you wouldn’t know that though seeing as how you spend more time playing as her then you do fighting her. Meet Abby, a jacked female WLF soldier and her band of fellow less important WLF soldiers. (who despite playing a pretty big role in Joels death get killed in either a cutscene, quicktime event, or by the hands of someone other than Ellie.) I don’t know what Naughty dog was trying to do with these antagonists however because despite how much of Abby’s and their backstory I learned or how much i played with her, I still didn’t care and I still wanted to kill her. It almost seems like the only reason we get to play as Abby is to make the game longer than it has to be. Anyways throughout this game you spend 20+ hours playing as both Abby and Ellie, who’s relationship is complicated Because despite hating, fighting, shooting, and stabbing at each other throughout basically the entirety of the game never actually bring themselves to kill one-another. It’s like I as a player had no control over any of the characters actions, because I for one wanted to kill Abby the entire time so when finally Ellie gets her chance to at the very end of the game she chickens out and lets her live at the last second, atleast the gameplay is fun and the graphics are good though right? 1/10

But atleast we got that mocap sex scene right

destroys everything that first game built, and that ending, oh my god, just dissapointing, i mean, joel is not the same as in the first game, his new attitude its just an absurd attempt to justifiy his "end", ellie develops a strong, violent personality in mid game, but, in the end, she appearly forgets about everything that happened and chooses to be a "good person"

Having an opinion is everyone's right, but it's such a shame that so many would review bomb a game they haven't finished, or in many cases even played, just because they didn't like the path the story took. I didn't like what happened in the game either. I was intensely attached to the characters at the end of part 1, and to see the way part 2 ended left me hollow, sad, and empty. But for me, the beauty in this game lies in its ability to make you feel, intensely, what's going on in the moment. The gameplay is absolutely stunning. I've never played a game that's had my heart pounding to the extent that this one did. The graphics, mind-blowing. I struggle to see why we even need another console generation so soon (not that I'm complaining), when my launch PS4 is able to give me such a stunning immersive experience. And the storyline, well, it's tough. The only joy you find are in the little moments, like the flashback to Ellie's birthday. But that's what TLOU is about. The world is bleak, joyless, and the game makes you come to terms with that far better than even the masterpiece that was part 1 did. Furthermore, never before has a game made the player come to terms with their own actions like TLOU2. Two instances in particular spring to mind. First, where you slaughter a vicious dog, and later are made to play catch with the same dog and see what a sweetheart she is (RIP Alice). Second, where Ellie gets information from a seemingly meaningless character, who in the second portion of the game we see as a jovial character who had simply been protecting herself. Without giving much away, I have never been made to feel so profoundly by any video game, or any form of media for that sake. There are times when the game gets uncomfortable to keep playing, but that's what makes this franchise what it is.
Also, just as a P.S. (Spoiler Alert), the moment where Ellie tells Joel she will try forgive him for lying about the fireflies made me so emotional I almost had to stop altogether.

One day he receives a mission, escorting a girl to the Fireflies. Reluctantly he accepts and, to his surprise, begins to develop feelings for the girl. It keeps you alive and safe all the way, no matter what needs to be done. In the end he discovers that fate would once again take his girl, he does not agree and sacrifices the whole of humanity to save the girl, he then lives with the burden of being responsible for having taken - perhaps - the only way to salvation of the world.
He knows that when she finds out, she will be furious with him, yet she doesn't regret what she did and moves on, with the weight of all these and future deaths on her back.
Joel - years later - is brutally murdered by Abby, daughter of the doctor who would kill Ellie on the operating table, a clear violation of the Hippocratic oath he once took. That man THREATENS him with a scalpel and stands between him and his daughter. That man made his choice, he could have just run out of the room, he kills that man.
Joel dies without regrets, he would do it all over again.
Then it is time for Ellie to avenge her father, whose sin that led him to die was to have saved his life in the past. Ellie can't do this, she can't stand to live with her hands full of blood and lets her father's murderer get away with it, to live contentedly with the revenge she did. The only person she really needs to kill, that she had reason to hate and kill - not just survive - she lets out, out of weakness. Ellie doesn't deserve Joel's love.

+ Yes graphics and sound design is astonishing, 10/10
~ Gameplay is nothing special. Either you like or dislike it.
the gameplay is just a bit more refined, than the first part
but everything in the gameplay has been done better in some form or fassion
there are better stealth in other games, there is shooting, and more
    - Enemies are most of the time dumb.
+ Levels are more open and feel better than the first part

    but the most important part:
    THE STORY:
    it is bad (BAD)
    - new Characters are flat and not compelling.
the game wants to justify their (horrific) actions after they already did them, by telling their backstory.
yet the backstory isnt interesting or good enough to get the player on their side
while playing the backstory, the only thing i want to do is GOING BACK TO THE MAIN STORY
    - old Characters, especialy Joel, are not the same or anyway close to how they were in the first part
it feels like "Star Wars The Last Jedi" all over again
the game tries to change your memories of the old characters, in a non compelling/unrealistic way
    - the Story is the basic, Standart, uninspired Revenge Plot
and the worst part is HOW the Story starts this whole plot.
    - the clickers (however the undead are exactly called) are litteraly only in the game, so you have something to shot at
    - the first game had this deeper meening of love and hope (and more), this game has left that behind for something like "hOw FaR ArE YoU GoInG tO gO fOr ReVeNgE?"
    (The cycle of Revenge)
but it gives us no choise to do something different,
and while i understand, the game is ment to be linear, even a monkey would understand its mistakes after the tenth time or so.
There are just to many other ways of telling us about the Cycle of Revenge.
    - At the same time it tries to show how characters react and change after they killed a human in a cutscene, BUT IT HAS NO IMPACT.
I LITTERALY killed a hundred other men/women before with NO reaction and suddenly this?
    - at Last the First Last of Us was great at switching brutal combat to a more hopefull, peacefull enivrement.
after a longer shootout, it takes time to tell a story
it gives your brain time to relax
Part 2 loses itself the more you play it.
it starts fairly "calm", yet not even 2 hours its "BAM, Revenge plot", kill them all.
it's like some sufferingporn, just one bad thing after the other
and while I understand why it is there, there just comes a moment, where it just stopes impressing me and it just gets boring
    - At last the first game had this "Light" you could look towards
tlou2 has lost it, completely, Its completely in the dark
    - The first game was nearly perfect, arguably one of the best games of all time,
it didnt need a sequell, especially this one
    - I remember Neil saying "There are no Protagonists/Heroes"
well, congrats, Then Why Should I Play The Game?
(- and no its not because of Joel)

    - game didnt work with me, and as I see, it didnt word with the majority as well.

    so in the End:
while yes the Graphics/Sound is the best we have ever had
and while the gameplay may be truly good
It still is a Sequel to the first part, but it feels like a bad writen FANFICTION, written by a gyu with no knowledge in fictionwritting and who was drunk the hole time.
Its like some mix between "DCs Darkness", "The Last Jedi" with its inconsistent, blank, dumb characters and "Game of Thrones: Season 8", just NO. not even the greatest Graphics/Gameplay can save this Sheithouse of a Story (How the hell did the Critics give it a 95?, its like they didnt play this game at all, (or less than an hour)) - 3 points for Graphics/Sound - 2 point for Gameplay, (hit or miss) - -1 for story A small tipp: If you already bought the game, I AM SORRY for you If you HAVENT bought part 2, DONT BUY IT, no recomendation just play/replay the first part, its awesome.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My honest review of TLOU2

    Will contain some spoilers.

The Last of Us 2 is a story-driven game with elements of stealth, action and survival in a post-apocalyptic world. The current state of the world is filled with a fungus that takes over humans and transforms them into zombie-like creatures. The greenery in the game is lush and all over like it's taking back over the earth. It looks beautiful on the PS4 Pro.

    Gameplay
The Last of Us 2's gameplay is how you'd expect it to be but refined a little from the first game. Easy to control the character movements and trek around the different sceneries and areas within the game. I don't really know what else to say on this because it's basic stuff. I feel the scenery is well designed so it kinda hints on where to go next to progress the story.

    Graphics
The graphics in this game are beautiful especially when seeing the greenery and trekking through forest areas. Everything looks better designed compared to the first instalment. It is definitely one of the nicest-looking games this generation.

    Animations
When it comes to animations this game does them well. Everything is fluid when picking up resources, ammo, sneaking and all the other movements the characters make. I think motion capture has something to do with this also. Well done in the animations department.

Now onto the negatives because these are my biggest reasons I didn't like this game much.

    Story direction
I feel when it comes to the story the game combusts and dies. The story is a simple revenge plot due to Joel killing a random NPC close to the end of the first game which happens to be Abby's father. She simply then gets lucky in finding him after some trouble with infected and then deals with him in such an awful manner. Simply shoots one of his legs off then uses a golf club to beat the living hell out of him. I feel Joel isn't the proper Joel from the first game because why would he reveal his real name to people when he knows personally people would be after him. I feel they made Joel some dumbass person to automatically trust some random strangers and give them his real name. Back to the previous point though. Ellie walks in sees Joel all mangled up and sees him die. I know for a fact the majority of fans are disgruntled with the way he was killed. I feel and many others feel they spat on the character and made him out to be a supervillain or something. What annoys people more is you play as this character quite a bit throughout the game. Only to end up in the end not killing Abby (when playing as Ellie) and just walking away. The whole journey of the first game of building up the characters relationship is pointless because of the events of the second game. All to send this message that “humans are all trash”. Naughty Dog has betrayed the diehard fans and spat on Joel's character.

To wrap this up I feel this sequel isn't as good as the first. I feel they just pandered to a select few groups of people and have suffered for it. The user reviews show people's opinions. It isn't being massively review bombed as the gaming journalists are putting it. It's from real people with real opinions. Not everyone agrees or has the same opinions on everything.

For this, I score The Last of Us Part II a 6/10. The 6 marks going to the positives I gave at the start of my review. Neil Druckmann you needed to do better.

    Naughty Doggy-style!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is my first review for a game I am about to give. Please don't flag me as a bot Metacritic because of this. I played the game on Survivor difficulty and it took me 33 hours 41 minutes to complete. I feel like I have earned the opinion I am about to give.

Story(Spoilers): I started the game off vaguely hearing of the spoilers, knowing what happens to Joel, but not how it happens. That was the extend of my previous knowledge. I noticed friction between Joel and Ellie. I knew something went down between them where Ellie was not happy and Joel was slightly heart broken. The acting in this game was very good when you can convey such emotion in your face without needing to say words. I was broken inside after seeing what happened to Joel. Every person who saw this had the same heartbroken and shocked reaction that I did. We all hated Abby at that moment, but I'll get to talking about her later. Ellie and Dina had a sweet relationship in this game. There were some genuinely nice moments they had together. I didn't like how in the first 10 minutes of playing the game I was reminded 4 times of Ellie being a lesbian through a bigot and other comments made. Having genuine sweet moments of people in love holds more weight than making them feel like the world doesn't agree with their choices. Ellie is out for revenge and the story progresses rather well through the days leading up to finding Abby. I was forced to kill dogs in this game, which I wasn't happy to do, but I do understand in war these things happen. I love my current dog(Apollo) dearly and understand how it can affect people. When we finally catch up with Abby she is as evil as ever. We know why she wants to kill Ellie with all the terrible things Ellie did to Abby's friends. We just don't care. Ellie is who we saved from that hospital because of the love Joel had for her. We understand we doomed the world, but we just don't care. The best line from Abby's point of view was when we had the flashback to the day of the surgery. Abby's father is asked if it was his daughter could he do the same thing. Knowing his daughter would die on the table. Her father never answered the question directly. He just danced around it. When the time came where we had to play as Abby the entire community had the same reaction, disgust. We don't care who is was leading up to that point. The only question I had was how she because so ripped though. To get that built as a guy it takes consuming massive amounts of high protein/low carb foods. For a woman it is even harder to achieve. How angry would you be when there are people starving out in the world and some one decides to eat 4 times what others do just to maintain that build? I mean doesn't she have to go on missions? She would need to reserve possibly 8 hours a day to maintain that. A perfect example is the end of the game when she losing all that muscle from starvation. Anyways, at first I thought it might be a mission or two where I would play as Abby, but when I noticed the days progressing the same way as Ellie's story line I was not happy. I don't care if she throws balls for dogs or befriends some scars. When Abby's long portion finally ended we finally get a nice part where Ellie is second mother to Dina's baby. It's nice has Ellie seems happy at first, but than you realize that she suffers from PTSD. Tommy shows up and gives information on how to find Abby to finish things finally. I can best describe Ellie as a soldier who just never left the war. She is so damaged inside that she doesn't know how to live in peace. This happens to people all the time. Ellie leaves her for one last mission and after finding Abby, rescuing Abby, than forgiving Abby for killing Joel she heads back to an empty house. No Dina and no baby. The final scene shows the last conversation Ellie and Joel had before that terrible chain of events happened.

What started as a review ended up being a therapeutic release of my feeling towards this game. Does this game deserve a 10/10 by the scared game critics who don't want to lose the influence of Naughty Dog? No way. Does it deserve a 0/10? Not that either. If Abby was turned into a character more similar to Owen than I would have been happy. She would have seen the flaws in constantly being at war and just got tired of it. She sides with Ellie in a fight against a new enemy that has Joel die tragically trying to save Abby from this other threat. I didn't go into the game wanting to hate Abby. Naughty Dog did it for me and tried so hard to change my mind, but never succeeded.

The failure was not in the graphics, acting or game play. It was in the story. It had potential, but Naughty Dog dropped the ball and it rolled under the fence. Leaving us all as sad puppies.

Playing as ellie the whole game or even dina could have saved this game. Very disappointed, this could have been the best game all year. Hope naughty dog doesnt make a third. Won't waste $ on it. The graphics and design of the levels in the game are simply excellent, but they alone are not an indicator of a good game. And exclusivity is also a bad indicator. But even so - a bunch in the game and a bad plot and boring gameplay, you could still put 5/10. BUT! The game is filled with propaganda of feminism, as well as 10/10 selling marks and advertising, so it gets 0 points. 7 years and this is what we get? The story is terrible paired with the lack of innovation from the last release. The game itself is serviceable but the story is so trash, don't spend your money on something that we were lied to about during advertising.

The gameplay is an improvement on the first and it looks, feels and sounds stunning - you can tell how much work and love the developers and actors have put into this.

Naughty Dog have created a truly special sequel to one of the best games of all time, and in my opinion, part 2 is one of the best forms of any media I’ve experienced in a long time.

Expand

Beautiful game. Looks fantastic. Gameplay is a bit dated but is a slight improvement from the previous game.
Story however is an absolute mess, and for me the story is what I loved about the first game. Plot holes, characters that act out of character and make dumb decisions, side characters with no depth... these are things I’m very dissapointed in.

Not only does this game do that, but the purpose of the story doesn't even have a payoff with the most lackluster and disappointing ending in recent memory. Pointless sequel, identity politics constantly shoved down your throat, overall depressing and gross tone. The flashbacks are probably the only decent part of the game, but even those are rendered pointless due to the outcome of beloved characters.

Graphics and animations are good, but if you sprinkle sugar on a pile of **** newsflash, it's still ****

I am leaving a 10. I don't usually review games but considering the dubious user score this game is receiving I feel like weighing in is the correct option. This game is a masterpiece. Everything, from the story to the gameplay is exceptional. You may disagree with some choices Naughty Dog decided to follow while making this game but it's undeniable that everything feels intentional and well constructed. You may disagree with the decision of killing Joel in the first act but you'd be damn sure saying that Neil Druckmann knew what he was doing when he decided what would happen to Joel. The entire plot revolves around his death, even at thimes when it seems like the game is drifting away from him, you still can see Joel's footprint in whatever the surviving characters are doing. The first Last of Us, like the name suggests, is a deep dive into the human nature and its title is symbolic in Joel's decision of sacrificing humanity for a little girl he'd grown into as a father figure. A selfish act, but a human act nontheless. "Us" is the humanity in Joel's last decision. What makes me feel like this game is such a masterpiece as the first one was is the fact that the spirit of an imperftect humanity that defined the first chapter of the game can be felt massively on this second chapter. If what drove the first game was the spirit of love which could push a man into screwing everyone else for the love of someone else, what drives the second one is hate. Visceral and disgusting hate. A dark, sad and sometimes too invadent part of the human nature that defines us as much as we are defined by love. The story-telling is great. While playing the game I felt numerous times like I didn't know where the story was going to take me, or why some characters wanted to do some things that seemed so bizzare at first, but during the entire playthrough the storyline unfolded more and more to the end, where things clicked right into place. What makes this game so divisive is also what makes this game so great. Some people hate this game entirely because of Abby, wich is entirely understandable, after all she violently kills the father figure you'd learn to love in the first chapter and it seems like the game is pushing you towards liking her, almost if the game hopes we'd forgotten what she did to Joel. But the thing is, the game (and that's the brilliance of this game) doesn't care if you like Abby. To a certain extent this second Last of Us doesn't even care if you like Joel, Dina, Lev or even Ellie. The point of this game is to show you the humanity of each and every one of them. What selfish, dumb and entirely human flaw drives each and every one of them. You're in the crossfire of humans being humans, and the symbolism of the butterfly on Ellie's arm is surreal. Joel could have saved humanity if he'd let his "daughter" die. Abby could have never killed Joel if only she didn't let herself be blinded by the spirit of revenge. Abby's decisions are what eventually led to her faith if she'd never killed Joel, she never would have met Lev and Yara, finding the love sentiment that defined Joel himself. Every character is brilliantly defined and feels like a real human being doing what you or me would have done. You can find love, hate and sadness in every character of the game, but that's the beauty of The Last of Us, there are no good or bad guys, everyone is just a "guys". The characters are three dimensionals in every aspect of themselves. After all is still a game, and what a great game. Naughty dog has a track record of making technically excellent games and this game is no exception. The physics, the graphics, the shooting, the animations and the musics are top notch in this game. Killing a human being is incredibly real and gruesome. It's awesome but also disgusting, it's great. There are times where the game is outright scary, where you are either terrified of fighting humans or infecteds. The AI is phenomenal, and the interaction system between NPCs is surreal.
The new movement system also makes this game feel like it's from another planet if compared to the first one. I played it on the intermediate difficulty and it still felt more difficult than the first one on Hard mode. Still, the game does have some flaws, the transition between Ellie's story and Abby's story in the middle is a tad chaotic, and it leaves you wondering maybe too much what's happening to Ellie, Dina and Tommy, when the game is focusing on something else entirely. Surely this is one of the things that increase the replay factor of this game. Also, speaking of flaws, I did see a couple of glitches and tiny bugs here and there throughout the playthrough, things that would have slipped away on any other game, but the quality of this game is so high that these little defects stick like a sore thumb. In conclusion, this game IS a masterpiece. It isn’t perfect, but no masterpiece is perfect. I highly recommend this game.

Regarding the game experience: it destroys it completely for me. Now i understand the low ratings. Because this is low end. This wasted my time. This destroyed my fun. Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
