First of all i wanna make something clear, the game is graphically impressive, just like the first game was during it's time, pure eye candy... But that's just it! Nothing else about this game is alluring. The gameplay is not exactly thrilling, it's your standard over the shoulder shooter, just as it was the case with the first game, a formula we've seen thousands of times already, that doesn't add anything new and that many games previous to this one have already done better. No, gameplay isn't the reason why The Last of Us became popular to begin with, it's the story... And there's where the problem starts:
It's like a cheap satire, the amount of plot holes, questionable writing choices and overall silliness of it all hurts me, because this game had such a great predecessor in that department and it FAILS to deliver, horribly so. There's barely any character development for the cast, and if there is, it's for the worst. Joel's hurt badly in this regard, it won't explain much, but if you were a fan of him, you'll be very disappointed. The fact that ND falsely advertized the game by showing us footage of Joel in the trailers, and then having him replaced by another character in the actual game cutscenes, is the most insulting part of it all. There's some other questionable things like that disgusting sex scene which had no point or place to begin with.

Overall a terrible successor and both the nail and the coffin to the franchise, if you were to ask me, The Last of Us never had a sequel. Save your money.

I think that if a video game get 10/10 on most sites and that’s ok, nobody can call out 0/10 reviews for being hatefull. That said, i will post my review as i can normaly do (unless I am in a dicatorship with mind control like the ones of the 20th century) and i will take a screenshot of it to prove the censorship of this website if i can’t post it or if it comes to disappear.

I rate it 0 because the fact that a game with an old gameplay (almost identical to the one from the first « The last of us » wich ca on PS3) get perfect reviews because (and it has been proved) video games websites didn’t want to lose their access from Sony makes me sick. It’s funny how the critics are unanimous but players don’t like it at all. And strangely, negative reviews begin to disappear and to be more difficult to post while positive ones still work just fine.

WHY!!!! killing Joel is like killing john wick's dog, at least to us who played the first game, I'm really disappointed and probably wouldn't play a sequel, you could've just gave us what we wanted and then add a sequel about the Scars (Yara or lev story with prophet of sepharites) that would be cool, but now my only assumption of continuing the story is if SCARS raid Jackson and killed tommy and Dina for real, then Ellie and her son can take revenge, that would be pretty solid though. don't get me wrong, graphics and game-play are a 10/10, story is a 3 (being humble), i hope you think about that in your future games Naughty dog to avoid losing more fan-base and regret. gave it overall a 2. THIS GAME IS A MASTERPIECE. the technical part is the most amazing we have ever seen , th plot is controversial but i liked it a lot 'cause is not just a john wick revenge but it's more complicated and sublime. giving 0 just cause you don't like the story is stupid btw , the game without counting the plot is a 8 alone.

    1-. Acontecimientos sin sentido.

    Puntaje Final 4/10

This doesn’t feel like TLOU everyone knew and loved. Great game, just isn’t the last of us and the story is very poorly written for a project like the last of us. Will have to give this a 0 as this is not last of us it’s just some fan fiction of an edgy teenage girl in a body of Neil Druckmann

This game is by no means as bad as some people make it out to be. But neither is it a masterpiece.

The mechanics are ripped out of the new Tomb Raider games with stealth, crafting, melee and gunplay. Though there is a slight addition of watching your trail with dogs that can sniff you out, as well as sound cues from enemies similar to Officer Enemies whistling from Sniper Elite 3/4.

Little innovation compared to the first game, though at least it isn't a game-long escort mission. This meets expectations for game published by a major studio. But that's all. (5/10)

The story, which seems to be the most controversial part, is a massively over-hyped "was it worth it" revenge story. Very unoriginal. And while the quality is not bottom-of-the-barrel as some are inclined to believe, it is unimaginative, and very much average. (5/10)

Graphics-wise, the game looks how one expects a Triple A game to look. Polished, and refined. But that's expected. It does not stand out beyond that. (5/10)

    Base score: (5/10)

    Additional factors:
The social justice angle is something I find meaningless to the story. So what if the main character is straight, gay, bi or otherwise "non-binary?" Did it add anything to the story? No. Does it detract from the story? Also no. The story stands on its own merits, though as I said above, it needs work.

The fact that this game had a "pre-order incentive" that affects gameplay is a major sticking point for me personally. Just for that, -1 from the score.

Finally, Naughty Dog, get over yourself. You and your works are not some gift from on high. You have fallen victim to creator bias. You are unable to see the GLARING flaws in your product, which is understandable, and you are lashing out at anyone who dares suggest that it is less than a masterpiece. A "masterpiece" is defined as "a work of outstanding quality/workmanship." Your studios workmanship is hardly outstanding. It was average for a Triple A studio. And this game (based SOLELY on its own merits) is also average. It is not a masterpiece.
"Outstanding," by the way, is defined as "exceptionally good." Do enlighten us all as to what is "exceptional" about this game in regards to the quality or workmanship, let alone "exceptionally good." And if your response has something to do with the main character being a strong female with non-traditional orientation, let me stop you right there. That has NOTHING to do with the QUALITY or WORKMANSHIP of your game.

Final score: (4/10) due to pre-order scumminess. 5/10 otherwise.

    My rubric:
0/10: Unfinished. I never give credit for unfinished work.
1/10: Alpha. Severely Broken. There was an attempt, but that's all that can be said.
2/10: Beta. Major improvements needed, but at least the game is beyond the conceptual stage.
3/10: Broken. Some work is required to optimize and fix the technical issues.
4/10: Unimpressive. Falls below expectations, but otherwise a functional game.
5/10: Average. On par with other games of its bracket. No more. No less.
6/10: Novel. There are a few aspects that are different from others of its kind.
7/10: Exceptional. Significantly better than the average game.
8/10: Stand-out. Truly innovative mechanics/story, very high quality.
9/10: Masterpiece. Very few flaws. Minimal improvements can be made to this game.
10/10: Perfection. Actually, literally perfect. Zero flaws. Also impossible.

Although it isn't nearly as contained as the first, NaughtyDog weaves every gear together seamlessly to tell a story that I interpreted as Ellie fighting to find the strength to forgive. The stealth-action gameplay is a hefty improvement from the first one, as Ellie is more nimble and agile then Joel leading to quicker and smoother combat. The graphics are incredible. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Despite the immensely great gameplay that builds off the first game, along with a stunning visual setting in Seattle, I can't ignore the fundamental flaws of the story itself. It isnt the gay relationship of Ellie and Dina, nor the buff Abby. My main problem is the treatment of the characters such as Joel. Unlike many, my problem isnt the death of this beloved character but rather the timing, execution, and logic of it. Joel, the strong, untrusting protagonist of the first game, falls victim to Abby by giving out his name. They do this only 2 hours into the game to set up their revenge plot. The game tries to be philosophical but fails to do so. Then, the game forces us to play as his murderer for half the game and attempts to make us sympathize with her. Despite many not doing so, the ending doesnt even allow Ellie to exact her revenge, not even by the will of the player. Giving a choice to do so would've not only made it more immersive but made more sense considering Ellie murdered so many of Abby's friends in pursuit of justice for Joel. It's a convoluted story with beautiful gameplay, but, in my opinion, a game like the Last of Us should be more about narrative than gameplay. I just wish this game lived up to the success of the first game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. wow, this game is unlike anything I've ever played, it takes a concept that's been done a million times, revenge, and makes does it so well. at the beginning of the game, the character Abby kills Joel, you view this as an unforgivable act but as the story progressives you see Ellie become what she vowed to kill, she shoots a pregnant woman and does some pretty unforgivable things when taking into consideration Abby's story, speaking off Abby's story, once again ND knocks it out of the park, this character who does an unforgivable thing is humansed and while that isn't special in it's self, the fact that the game kinda makes you root for her is incredible, you start to seriously care about her and lev's relationship. the supportig charecters are all great dina, Jesse, lev, yara, Tommy and owen. now this game doesn't pull its punches, in the end most of the characters are dead. a lot of people have an issue with this, i do not, the way i see it, every death is a consequence, Jesse for instance only dies because Ellie killed owen and Mel, yara died because lev wanted to reason with his mom, every death moves the story forward in a forfilling way. for all the positives of this game, there are a few negatives, one is that at points in the game, the gameplay became stale and more of a chore than actual fun, there were points were i would fall threw a floor and be angry because i just wanted to progress the story not go through more corridors with a few infected. my other negative is the stories pacing, i think the way the game is structured could have been much better, you play as Ellie for 3 days, the tension is rising... and then your put back to the beginning... yeah i didn't like that, i would have much preferred playing one day as Ellie, then one day as Abby. this would mean the stakes were always rising and you could more easily draw parrels between there stories, plus you wouldn't get sick of playing as Abby, while i love her character there were points were i felt like i wanted a bit more of ellie. despite those flaws, i have to give this game a 9, its an incredible experience, and i know i wont win any popularity contests by saying this, my personal game of the year, assuming cyberpunk doesnt blow my exspectaions out of the water Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly I thought the game was solid, the story was a bit of a mess. Not very well told with a lot padding....so much padding. Like 10 hours of padding, but that doesnt ditract from my views on or because the have is still fun to play as it's basically a carbon copy of the first.

But let's address the plot for a minute, I understand where they're going and trying to do a story about Ellie suffering from PTSD from Joel's death but it was just done poorly.

There are flashbacks within flashbacks and the overall plot is a bit of a confusing mess, seems like they tried to do a Pulp Fiction but didn't know when to stop.

So the gameplay it's good, it's basically the first game with extra and the plot after all said and done is a solid okay, I did sympathise with the main antagonist by the end of the game.
The problem is it takes a good while to get there and can get tedious waiting for the next bit of plot that has anything to do with the overall story.

Hopefully they'll do a better job with The Last Of Us Part 3

The Last Of Us Part 2 is simply put a gut-punch.There is so much to say here but I'll try to be brief. I'll first address the complaints. Joel is not entitled to go out valiantly in this world. This is also not a standard tale of revenge and expectations will FAIL YOU if you go in with them. The Last Of Us Part 2 is simply put a gut-punch.There is so much to say here but I'll try to be brief. All I can say is I definitely was frustrated throughout the game - whether it was character decisions or story structure but with a little patience I started to enjoy every bit. Once I finished, the magnitude of the journey was overwhelming in a brilliant, moving and yes, very uncomfortable way. The action throughout is absolutely top-notch and brutal. A few sequences in particular my jaw was literally on the floor in awe at the scope of it all. It's the best looking game ever on the console as well.

This is a challenging game and not in the conventional sense, but I would highly, highly recommend to anyone. For me personally, I regard it as a masterpiece. 10/10, just like the first.

The Last of Us Part II is a game unlike any other. It takes players through a visceral story of hate and the cycle of violence. Your feelings are going to be hurt, you will despise some moments and probably, at some point, even hate the game. But that's the objective.

In order to put you in Ellie's shoes, the game needs to make you feel every single emotion that is going through her head.

You need to feel the hate, you need to feel the desolation.

Nearly 25 years have passed since the begging of the Cordyceps infection, the world's changed. People die every day, those who are still alive have to live with the constant threat of the infected. Happiness is a luxury that simply cannot be afforded, at least not for long.

Due to a traumatic event, Ellie sets off on a journey for revenge on those who've wronged her. You're not meant to have fun, you're meant to witness the character's slow descent into an ever-darker abyss of tragedy. You will feel the weight of every single murder, every single call for help and, hopefully, in the end, understand that there are no heroes and villains in this story, there are simply different perspectives. The most important thing to understand is that every action leads to a series of consequences, and no matter how much you try, you can't escape them.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After 7 years of anticipation, I admit I was abit disappointed with what Naughty Dog brought to the table with TLoU II. It’s certainly not a 3.5 given by gamers, but it’s definitely not a 10/10 masterpiece, which is really sad to say because it had all the potential for a real game of the year contender. The backdrop for TLOU was refreshing, it brought so much content to the table & the characters were so relatable because they were so.. real with their personal struggles. I felt that naughty dog could have built on what happened after the ending instead of fast forwarding 5 years, dropping us randomly into Seattle. What went right: Graphics - I’m honestly impressed with what ND managed to pull off given how old the PS4 console is. Lighting was amazing especially in the forested areas, models were crisp, detailed and just a beauty to look at. Gameplay - improving upon the mechanics of TLOU, I find the combat system much more fluid and so satisfying every time I pop the head off the infected. Crafting & upgrading your character hasn’t really changed fundamentally, you’ll still be going around scrounging for supplies. Every gun feels punchy, weighty and powerful. Even playing on hard, the difficulty is just right without you feeling too over or under powered. There’s a bit more puzzles to solve now to catch a break every now and then. Character animations are extremely life like and it’s just a joy to play and appreciate the motion capture work ND has put into. Environment - Seattle is sprawling with Wild life, places to explore and new areas to discover. There’s so many more buildings, rooms & creepy alleys to explore with the power of the PS4. The city really feels alive as you can hear the environmental sounds around you as you explore it. What went wrong: Story, story, story - sadly ND seemed to have lost the whole point of TLOU franchise. The lack of a solid story made this into some generic action adventure game. What made TLOU a lasting impression even till this date wasn’t the gameplay but the story telling. Every character was real, with their history, motivations and personality. In contrast every character, even Ellie was bland, forgettable and just plain boring to look at. There’s nothing about them, why are they doing certain things, how did they get here, or what’s their part in this game. You could remove 90% of the characters’ dialogue and it will still be exactly the same action adventure game. Because everyone is just shooting and killing first and asking questions later! See someone, “oh I don’t know maybe I’ll just kill that person first and then figure out what’s going on on my own by scrounging up notes lying around everywhere” (Except the flashbacks, that was really extremely well done)
“That” scene that everyone hated was really just there for shock value, I felt that it had no purpose and meaning because nothing links up.
Even halfway through the game I still don’t know why is everyone doing what they are doing, why is everyone just killing everyone and not asking questions? Was the whole point of playing another perspective just to make us empathise and sympathetic to their cause? It was really quite badly executed. Instead of feeling for them, that segment was excruciating, and just painful to play. And I was just dragging my feet to complete it. Seriously ND, you can’t just expect us to sympathise with anyone you make us play. If your goal was to make the single most hated character in video gaming industry, this takes the cake. Social norms - there’s really no need to be an “inclusive” game by incorporating certain sexual orientation in life just to appease everyone. It’s painful to watch, full of cringe and just feels so... forced. There’s no history between them as far as I can tell so I don’t get why ND has to put it in. You don’t need to conform to society and please SJWs just because certain group calls for it. Adding it doesn’t automatically make it acceptable. Summary
I’d wish you would have focused more on the story and developed each character properly. And for the life of me, please remove all these unnecessary gameplay about another person, we really don’t care. If you bought God of War you’d expect to play as Kratos, and not some random creep right? Same logic. Without a strong story every aspect of the game no matter how strong just falls apart and becomes just another generic action game. There’s nothing to gel these pieces together. I look forward to another game in the next few years, ND.

The death of Joel was cruel and the whole story of the game was a nihilistic mess, fullfilled with the pretentiousness of Neil Drunckmann and his wish of making a crushing videogame that will make us rethink our lifes in a philosophical matter but failed miserably. The ending it's a disgrace for the love fans felt for the first game and we sadly had to swallow a long, boring videogame representing a failure dressed with a bunch of nonsense. So many holes in the storyline and almost half the game dedicated to a character that no one cares about and running missions for people that were hardly part of the story development in the first place. The result are missions the feel totally unimportant because there’s no attachment to the outcome of the characters. So much indecision even in the final fight scene. Go after Abby again only to save her to decide to fight her again only to decide to save her again. At the end of the first game Joel did something pretty bad to do something good, but this game deals with its consequences. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first game was and still is a masterpiece. This second one, is GARBAGE. I was ok with the idea of Joel dying in this game and let Ellie be the protagonist. But, the way they did it, made me nauseous. First, killing in the most disgraceful way the most beloved character of the series and then forcing you to play as his murderer? It's INSANE.
If they wanted to get rid of Joel, they should at least show us some more of Abby, create some love for the character, make us simpathize with her cause and then get to this point in the story. There is nothing wrong in changing main characters. Take for example The Walking Dead Season 1. The death of Lee was shocking, but was a honorable death. A remarkable moment in the series just to pass the torch on to Clementine to make her own adventure.
Not only that, but they gave us the most horrible and disgusting sex scene I've ever seen in a video game or any other media. I had to turn my face away from the screen thinking the foul smell in that room. Anime boobs = CENSORED; Abby an Owen f***ing like two dudes in a prison cell = MASTERPIECE; WTF!
But they saved the best for last. When you finally thinks that the gameplay is going to be worth playing by killing Abby and get the so renowed "revenge", Ellie spares Abby. Not even a choice was given: to kill or not to kill Abby. Ellie ends with her "dad" dead, her friends dead, her girlfriend gone with their baby and two less fingers. And Abby? Abby is fine and dandy leaving with her friend into a new adventure where she can destroy more lives as she did with the characters of this franchise and its fans.

Like many other players, the original The Last of Us is the game closest to my heart. Like many other players, the original The Last of Us is the game closest to my heart. I’ve probably completed it fifteen times, and it inspired me to investigate programming, after which I changed careers to software engineering. I was very worried about a sequel, especially after all the vitriol surrounding the leaks.

Now that I've played the game, I can say that it is indisputably a technical marvel. The combat is TREMENDOUSLY improved from the first game (almost feels as good as the Leviathan axe from God of War), and the NPC AI is fantastic. Also, the voice acting is stellar from top to bottom. Most complaints folks have been making revolve around the story design however, so that's what I'd like to discuss here.

In the first few hours of the game, a horrific event takes place that has upset many players and fans. I have heard people say that it is lazy writing, and that the character decisions that led up to the event in question do not align with the characters involved. When I first experienced that scene, my gut reaction was to agree with these sentiments. However, as the remainder of the story unfolded and I personally reflected on the nature of the characters, I came to fully support the creative decisions made. I will be vague so as to avoid major spoilers, but I do want to (very humbly) offer a couple of general thoughts to consider for those who have or have not yet played the sequel. They’ve helped me better understand the writers’ choices:

    1. Remember that this installment takes place years after the first, throughout which our characters are in a community with amenities, security, and a culture of accepting outsiders. If our characters were the exact same as they were when we last saw them, this would be dishonest writing. Dialog and notes later in the game further support this character development between games.

    2. Consider the intrapersonal consequences of decisions made by characters in the first game. How could these decisions subsequently cause people to choose to behave?

    3. The world of this game is brutal, and nothing is too precious to be lost. Even in our real world, relationships and lives are cut short prematurely, and not everything is tied in a nice, tidy bow at its end.

To conclude, despite how emotionally exhausting this story was, I am forever changed by it. Its dark moments were some of the most most brutal I've experienced in any medium, and the high points had me smiling from ear to ear with tears in my eyes.

Play this game. With an open mind and an open heart. It is truly a work of art, and what I would consider an absolute masterpiece. Thank you Naughty Dog for your hard work and sacrifices in order to provide us with this experience.

The story writing is poor compared to the first part. But the game looks beautiful and breathtaking. Gameplay got improved, and overall I liked it. But it will never be as wonderful as the fist part.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
