    I will give this 2/10 for its stunning graphics and atmosphere, but the rest is a bunch of garbage. Gameplay is enjoyable when it has a masterpiece story like the first game. But in this **** story, it's all pointless and kinda boring.
    And talking about the story, it's a big disappointment. The story becomes worse and worse. You will be bored as **** in the last 3 chapters and I have nothing to say to the endings, it's just the worst thing in the whole game.
    I didn't watch the leak before playing TLOU 2 and even defended this game against the haters, but it turns out the worst game I've played in my life. 2 points out of 10 is the best I can say about this game, nothing more.
    Don't ever play this game, save your money for something else, it's not worth 60$ and 20+ hours to play this game.    … Expand

    Ok so I have been waiting to share my thoughts on this game for about a day now. I have been looking forward to this game since it was announced back in 2016. The Last of US is my favorite game of all time and I was excited for part II. Luckily I was able to avoid the leaks so I was able to go into the game with an open mind.
    Let's talk about the biggest positives: The gameplay is really fun, the new additions like prone, gun customization and the jump button are nice additions and improvement from part one. The graphics are amazing and all the scenes are Wonderfully acted. I also want to acknowledge Seattle as a whole. It was great. each day/are felt unique and I loved exploring the more open-is area.

    Now for the story. Naughty Dog took a couple risks with the game and I have mixed thoughts on them. So Joel dying in the first hour was really upsetting. It didn't feel real especially since the game was marketed to have Joel more involved in the story. the death was a really good catalyst for me wanting to kill all the wolves. I enjoyed most of Ellies first section. The environmental puzzles slow things down a little too much, however they give you time to get to know Dina and Jesse so there's a tradeoff.
    When we got to the abby section I was extremely angry I signed up to play as Ellie not as some random chick I was introduced to and hour into the game. For the first 3-5 hours as playing as her I really just wanted to go back to Ellie. but as I understood her more and more as a character I began to at least respect her. Once she met lev and started formulating the relationship with she started growing on me. I will say I really didn't care much for any of Abby's friends when they died, obviously they had
    once I got to the first abby Ellie fight I was torn apart of course I loved Ellie and didn't want her to die but I understood abby(the villain) and also didn't want her to die. This strategy of putting you in the villains shoes was a huge risk and I think can only work if you detach (or at least to attempt to) detach your feelings from the characters of part 1. if you understand where abby is coming from I think the story is strong and a bruilty honest look to two sides of a dark world.
    I also want to acknowledge that I liked the difference I combat between Ellie and Abby, they both felt different and unique and the difference in weapons and combat styles.

    The ending I was not a fan off I felt unsatisfied to be honest. I guess the end was supposed to be Ellie forgetting Joel and leaving her ptsd behind. Even though I appreciated the two sided story of Ellie and abby both ended pretty unfulfilled.

    Also people want to complain about the writing and how Joel and Tommy were supposed to be smarter not to trust people. However it is acknowledged later there are tons of traders coming in and out of Jackson. I additon the fact that they were near death and being chased by infected lead to them trusting a stranger.

    Overall I enjoyed the game for what it was. Its not perfect, I was angry at first and confused. But as the game went on I enjoyed it for what it was. If you as a player can get over your feelings about Joel dying and appreciate and understand the two sides of the story it's really a quite unique, creative dark and brutal story that is worth playing. there were some pacing issues and I wish the ending was better but I feel like it leaves room for a sequel    … Expand

    The gameplay is similar to the first one with a few tweaks for the better. The story is actually really good, the only problem with it is that it was spoiled so people knew the big spoiler without the context for it. I love this game. It is better than the first one.

    good to start we will highlight the good, graphics, ia, modeling, ready that is the good (now the bad and what is loaded to everything you name above).
    To start I want to clarify before they tell me homophobic and blah blah blah I'm not, since 1 (in the dlc) already knew about elly and it didn't seem bad to me.
    The game in plot terms is a complete GARBAGE (and do not come to me with that of a dark game for dark times) first in the 2 or 3 hours of the start they **** on one of the best characters in history in a CYNICAL AND WITHOUT SENSE, Joel is killed by abby so cruelly that he makes us hate hatred of abby's own character (or whatever) in addition to another character like Neil druckman spitting on Joel's body and making fun of him (in fact the actor from this character later on Twitter made fun of Joel as well so confirm my theory).
    But instead of complaining about what Miles already says, I'm going to contribute something from me for this, this is nothing more and nothing less than a script that tries to be cryptic giving a message in the style of death stranding (although death stranding is a better game by far) the moral that everyone understood is revenge is bad but other than that goes that Neil druckman wanted to represent the heterosexual white man through Joel and a transgender person through abby and they wondered what represents elly, well elly does not represent a person if not a decision and what decision? The one of the patriarchy and the one of the white man, the movie hero or the one of the inclusion and justification of abby, therefore tlou2 makes the player feel guilty of what elly is and makes you try to understand how elly made the right decision to Assuming Abby had a justification for doing what she did (revenge is bad when it comes to killing a transgender but not for spitting on Joel's face and doing many other things without any argumentative justification) nor talking about Elly losing everything so that at the end he said "better not" is a NO sense of argument and is THE WORST WRITTEN IN HISTORY, so Neil druckman only used the characters to represent ideologies and stereotypes that he based on his own ideology decided to kill and mock in the game (it goes without saying that the TOTAL INFLUENCE OF ANITA SARKESIAN is noticeable) if that were not enough, she also wants to make a tlou3 that I imagine will be some garbage like that and that will use this pseudo-descriptive plot structure p To represent ideologies and distill hatred towards the one who does not like it (basically the right).
    Also druckman can not say homophobic and haters to those who put a bad grade since the one as I say above had a very good reception and already knew about elly.
    Therefore, as the bad story does not allow the discerning player to enjoy the other aspects and makes you play with a hateful character (and who is more powerful abby because that ideology is more powerful) the game is titled "a card of love Anita Sarkesian "and her grade is 0.    … Expand

    By far the most immersive and emotional experience I've had in arguably all of gaming. From the flawed characters to the amazing set pieces, this game is nothing short of a masterpiece. All I can say is play it yourself, and don't read up on anything. Just play it.

    A Masterpiece of a game. I started the game with a neutral mind ( I knew people were upset about something before it even launched but I ignored because dure to spoilers and I didn't watch any reviews). After a few minutes, I knew this experience will be special and after beating it, I can confidently say that this game deserves the 10/10 rating. Story, gameplay, visuals, sound design andA Masterpiece of a game. I do think that some decisions in this game did suck, but it made sense and it made the entire storyline of this game possible. Things I want them to do is either make a third game or a spin off of her going to try and find Dina and J.J. and make things happy between them again, that would be a good ending to the sequal, I honestly wouldn't care if there was no fighting in the game at all and us just having fun with Dina and J.J., I just want to end this sequal off on a good note.     A very controversy, brave and emotional game. I was not expecting that deepness and perfection in telling a story that realy hurts the actual enviroment that we live in, giving visibility and suporting causes without ruining the story and actually giving it a great direction to go foward. Great experience, best game in ps4, Maybe best game ever.

    As far as I’m concerned there is no “The Last Of is 2” They ripped out the mp, Ruined the story beyond repair and copied the game mechanics from the original. It’s crazy to think that after 7 years of waiting they would make something this bad.

The game pointlessly kills off Joel, the iconic hero and protagonist of the series, very early in the game, in a manner completely inconsistent with Joel's character. Appallingly, the game later forces you to play as his murderer, Abby, for almost half the game. Abby is an evil, sadistic monster who savors the prospect of slitting the throat of an innocent pregnant woman, and who also took immense pleasure in torturing and slaughtering Joel, after he was forced to kill Abby's father to prevent him from murdering innocent Ellie at the end of the first game. As if that wasn’t awful enough, at the end of the game Ellie is about to kill Abby to get justice for Joel, but then inexplicably lets Abby go for no reason - even after Abby bites off two of Ellie's fingers. The story is so bad it might as well have been written by a monkey on a typewriter.… Expand

    I trust naughty dog so much,so I spent 60$ and pre-order this **** game. This must be the worst story I ever seen in my life. When I forced to play as someone I hate so much, i just stop playing and turn off my console. It really hurt my mental heath. I gave 1 point for the fascinating graphics.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The anticipation that spans years for a sequel to our favorite franchises should always feel worth the wait. From the original released in 2013, a classic tale that will forever impress and influence future game makers forever, to it’s following act in 2020, a journey in which I have never felt more connected to in my entire life. I felt as if I had to explore every corner of this game, every rag, every bottle, every journal entry, I wanted to experience it all. I tried as much as I could to prolong my adventure, I explored every inch of every area, opened every drawer I could, cracked as many safes as I found. I didn’t want this game to end. And when it did, I felt broken. When I found out that spoilers had been released for this game, I stayed off of social media for days. I didn’t see anything, I went into the story knowing absolutely nothing besides the official trailers that had been released. I didn’t know that Joel would die. The idea had popped into my head, particularly when Abby and Owen are discussing the town in Jackson at the beginning, questioning if “he” might be inside. When Abby ends his life, you do more than resent her. You want her dead. In that moment, you take on the journey as Ellie and pray that you never have to be put into Abby’s shoes again. But then it happens. And you don’t want her in front of your screen, you want Ellie back. But you keep playing. And you slowly begin to understand why she killed Joel. You still hate her, but why am I empathizing with her? Naughty Dog has a special way of connecting you to their characters. How could I go from hating someone’s guts to feeling bad for them? Especially when I felt so devoted to Joel and Ellie? It’s safe to say, however, I was extremely hesitant when knowing what was about to happen while approaching the theatre with Lev by my side. Having to be the one on the other side hurting Ellie broke me. But, having to fight Abby as Ellie also broke me. I think that’s what makes this game so great. You may not agree with any of the characters, you may hate them all, you may love them all. You may hate the story. You could hate Naughty Dog. But you can’t deny that they succeeded in doing what a video game is supposed to make you do: feel something; even if it’s all negative. The Last of Us Part II destroyed me. I feel an emptiness inside of me after stepping away from this game that I can’t explain, and that’s what a story should do. That is why I’m giving this game a perfect score. I could sit here and talk about the beautiful and seamless combat and gameplay. But we as humans, we don’t always think of those things first when remembering our favorite games/tv shows/movies. We think of how they made us feel. And this game made me feel emotions I never felt before. It was worth the 7 year wait.… Expand

    Not only on the beautiful graphics, but also on the amazing story, it really put you on perspective that every story has two sides. One of the best experiences I had. A lot of emotions a cross the game. You hate and love the characters, but thats part of it ❤️

    This game was everything I wanted and more. It is a brilliantly compelling story that rides the line between black and white. The world of the last of us is morally gray where everyone has their own trials and tribulations and reasons for why they do what they do. It is human and beautiful. The only downside preventing me from giving a 10/10 is the actual gameplay which gets extremelyThis game was everything I wanted and more.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The rest of the people on this website are overreacting to an outrageous degree. This game is not as terrible as most people are saying. What they are, is pissed off at certain plot points, to a degree that they ignore the rest of the game. The soundtrack for the game is incredible and immersive. The lighting and visuals are the best out of any game i've ever played. The character models aren't incredible, but to say they're bad would be wrong. Each one is unique and looks better than 90% of games. The actual acting is top notch, as expected from Naughty Dog. The atmosphere is tense as hell, and really immerses you in the game. And no, unlike what everyone says, the game is not as bleak and void of fun as they say. There's plenty of jokes and beautiful moments that make the slower parts worth it. I mean, just look at the museum scene.
    Now, where the game does fall apart, is the story. Yes, it's bad. If NG just rearranged some scenes, it would be perfectly good. The building blocks for a good story are there, but they're not put together. However, the combat system has made many improvements (besides for dodging, because god that's broken), it's so accessible that you can play it if you're visually or audibly impaired, and if you have declined motor functions. There's plenty of environmental puzzles (Even though many critics will lead you to think otherwise), and the chase scenes are tense as hell.

    The only reasons that this game is being rated so low, are:
    People are being pissy that NG made some massive jumps narrative wise
    They killed off Joel without any retribution (When he deserved it, since he removed the potential cure for humanity and killed hundreds of people)
    The story is sub-par (Haha golf joke)
    And, most of all, they're comparing it to the first game. Which is flat out unfair. Nothing they could put out could top the first game, because the first game was built around making connections and deepening them, while getting to understand and connect with characters. But there's no way they could be as compelling in a sequel, when you already know the characters inside and out, the bar is way too high, and they couldn't make any massive twists like the first game, since their personalities are already set in stone from the first.
    Overall, the game is set to way too high of a bar because of it's predecessor, but if you take it as a standalone game, it's easily an 8/10 at the very least.    … Expand

    I thought it can't get any worse by this point, but the ending is even more dissapointing, not satysfying and annoying.

    Graphics: Good, but in-game the downgrade from what Naughty Dog showed in the gameplay trailers are visible.
    Gameplay: Boring...
    Story: Bland
    But the main point for me is the deconstruction of characters in this game and of course, Abby. Why?

    So i'll end my review like AVGN about this garbage of a game: "this game f*** sucks!"

I enjoyed some moments with Abby and some of her story but I feel like we shouldn't have played as her in the game. The treatment of lgbtq+ characters is also just used for misery and shock value.

    I feel like a way to improve this game and give its moral message of forgiveness and the flaws in revenge would have been to have the player play as Abby from the beginning and have her struggle trying to find Joel and Ellie and get revenge and she meets Lev and befriends and takes care of him like an older sister and then have the cult come back and beat up Abby and take back Lev and then she meets Joel and Ellie and Joel finds out who she is and befriends her and take her to Tommy's settlement for medical help she finds out who Joel is and tries to kill him but Ellie stops her and they offer to help her get back Lev and after saving him and defeating the cult take them to Tommy's settlement and then have them heal up Lev and Joel and Abby finally have a confrontation/talk and Joel,Abby,Lev,and Ellie go on a journey to the Last remnants of the fireflies and Joel sees what he put her through and Abby realizes that Joel is genuinely upset and saddened at what he has done and Abby comes to realize and understand why he did what he did after hearing him out. On their way to the fireflies they find other settlements and see what has happened to some of the last remnants of humanity, Have Abby teaching Lev how to shot a gun, having Ellie and Joel rekindle their father daughter bond and have Ellie really talk to Joel about her feelings, Have Joel teaching Lev how to fish or fight, have Abby and Ellie become close and see each other as friends and they end up in battles with bandit groups like from the first game and When they finally make it to the fireflies and Joel reveals who he is and they try to kill him only to have Abby protest and forgive him. If a character has to die then they should have Ellie choosing to give up her life for a cure or vaccine. The game ends with Joel at Ellie's grave and then Joel walking away to his home where he is teaching Abby and Lev how to play the guitar This could be a nice but sad ending like the Tell Tales the walking dead season 1 made me feel.The other option would be the doctors having Ellie live through the surgery and have her with Dina showing Joel his grandchild and Joel teaching Lev how to play football or something and him teaching Abby how to play the guitar as a nice feel good ending. A DLC or third game after either of these endings could be Lev and Abby adjusting to life and visiting other settlements and having like a war between the settlements. This is honestly what I would have done people can like the game how it is and thats fine but I personally didn't like most of the story.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. - Gameplay is pretty solid. Visuals are stunning, and are as good as they'll get for the farewell of this console gen. The setting itself is well developed, and a continuously bleak one.
    - Characters and Plotline are pretty much **** though.
    - Trailers intentionally mislead the audience, by using wrong character models for Joel. Dude dies 2 hours into the game, and is mostly seen through flashbacks.
    - Joel and Ellie break character to get the plot rolling.
    - New protagonist is **** Like the MGS2 twist but you play as a Johnny ****-my-Pants who just killed of Solid Snake and is wholly unlikable.
    - Did I mention how the game attempts to vilify the previous protagonists beyond belief, while shoving their new one down your throat?
    - God the sex scene, what in gods name.

    All in all, extremely disappointing, cannot recommend, especially if you're a fan of the first game.
    It's like they carefully analyzed all the reasons folks liked the first game and said, "Lets do the opposite of that, it sure will be subversive and thought provoking!".    … Expand

    There were some good moments to the game. Ellie playing "Take on Me" was one of them. Her and Joel pretending to be in a spaceship is another. The graphics were fantastic. The production value was top notch and the level design was beautiful. These reasons saved the score from being 5 or lower. I can certainly see someone give this a 7, maybe an 8 if they really did enjoy it, but anything higher is SUSPECT. The story is not enjoyable or coherent.

    I'd save the $60. Don't simply buy a game because of "perfect" reviews or bc of nostalgia from the first game. Vote with your dollars. GG    … Expand

It made you care about Joel and Ellie so much that if there was a sequel you would think that it would be a rollercoaster of emotions including both Joel and Ellie for the majority. That is where this game falls short. Joel’s death is not only done so dirty for all the fans to watch, but just done to advance the plot with this game. Joel’s decision should haunt him but the route this game goes with in doing so is not the one many fans wanted. This game makes Joel out to be a horrible person and makes Ellie’s final decision of mercy just seem like she is spitting on his grave and that he didn’t matter. Along with killing the main character in the first game this game introduces transgender girl named Abby who is introduced before shortly killing Joel. What this game does is makes Ellie do horrible things to get revenge but then paints Abby as the protagonist forcing the player to agree with her which is difficult considering what she did to Joel along with the game making her overall not even that likable when showing why she killed Joel. The fight where the player is Abby against Ellie is something nobody wants and is very forced. The point is the game should not have to force you to like a character and you should be able to do that on your own. Naughty Dog should have just given fans a game where you play half as Joel and half as Ellie with a good cause to want revenge with Joel dying in the end and Ellie living with Dina. Instead they give a forced plot with forced characters is Abby and Ellie in a few parts. The game goes a route no one wanted and doesn’t do a good job with the route it takes. It hurts fan watching characters whom are loved getting pushed to the side for a new character no one cares about. This sequel shouldn’t exist as the first game ended nicely and makes fans feel played themselves when they wait 6 years for something at least good.… Expand

    Ellie was mad on his father because his father saved her from killing her to make a vaccine?? (WTF, all the father in the world will do the same!!! by the father of two)

    The Game is simply a Masterpiece that not everyone will get to enjoy or understand . An ending that will not please everyone but a good ending non the less to a really violent game . All the hate the game is getting is invalid . The game makes a point and it does a great job developing the story . Would recommend everyone to play it . It's definitely a perfect sequel to the first one .

    The Last of Us 2 is perfect. It brought me to my knees time and time again with it’s unapologetic loyalty to the VERY poignant and important themes it took on. I loved everything about it, start to finish, even if it hurt. The dedication to character development and the way it leads your heart through the game....let’s just say I couldn’t believe how I felt and who I was rooting for at theThe Last of Us 2 is perfect. No the characters are laughable just how stupid they killed off Joel then added a character named Abby to which has no back story. or even mentioned in the first game, and don't get me started on the plot because that **** is all over the place while making the player play as Abby through 70% of the game **** that let us play as Ellie and Tommy not that ****. Man **** this game naughty dog should be ashamed of themselves for releasing this piece of **** of a game. Like | said before the story made no sense at all and the only time it was good when Ellie and Joel were together talking. This game also felt like a cheap jump scare to try and make it more spooky and even had a walking dead feel to it by bringing up that 2 characters are pregnant. Just no hell Joel even felt out of character to which in the first game he ran over a guy who claimed to have a injured leg while in this game he tells some random strangers who he and his brother is and where the camp is. Like what are these idiots thinking when writing this who gave the okay to let something like this even be released naughty dog I'm honestly 100% mad at you.

People complaining that Joel was “dumbed down” aren’t taking the 4 years of peacefully living, in a town filled with people he has to rely on and where they let outsiders pass through, into account at all. Also anyone complaining about the SJW agenda... you do remember Ellie was already a lesbian in the first game right? And I mean how dare they have a diverse cast of characters of different backgrounds? Like are you people serious. I will say I can see how some people don’t like Abby but I enjoyed her a lot. She’s not an evil person. She went on a revenge quest. The same damn thing Ellie did. Like I get it she killed Joel but he killed her father. This whole game speaks to the consequences of revenge and is reminding you that the “enemies” are real people who have lives and loved ones. It’s a series of actions and consequences that felt real. The ending was “bad” because the characters made selfish decisions and paid the consequences, Especially Ellie. A happy ending would have been nice, I honestly would have loved the game just as much if it had ended with Ellie giving up her revenge before losing Dina, but the ending we got was much more real.… Expand

    This game is simply apathetic, it doesn't care about the first The Last of Us. You see how one person kill one of the two most important character of this franchise and then it forces you to play as her.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a great game that could cause a storm of emotions in me like no other. I have not experienced such a spectrum of feelings for a long time. This is an exciting experience. Everyone has to go through this game and understand the importance of the thought. I am very glad that Naughty Dog did not follow the path of fan service, but developed something more and raised topics of interest. Thanks for the game. Thanks for awesome adventure!… Expand

    This game is extremely disgusting, look at all the spamming positive reviews from bots, and they are now deleting negative reviews because Sony warned them doing it. Do not buy it, otherwise you are probably going to vomit all over your places. Worst game ever!!

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
