    I really don't know why this game is getting so much hate. The enemy/companion A.I. is rough (even on hard difficulty) and the game feels too bloated, but other than that this is a high recommendation.

    Bad story telling, and in a linear game, THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT, IS A GOOD STORY! save your money and watch the cut scenes on Youtube or Pornhub, because you'd get **** by buying it. (if you REALLY want a good revenge plot, watch just about any western film, its better).

    Like many of us here it was told in a very disorganized and unsatisfying way, hence the ending not having a resolution. I was expecting to have more Ellie and more Joel adventures throughout the game (the reason we fell in love with the game in the first place) but those expectations get destroyed after the first hour playing sadly.

    My biggest concern though is Abby. Playing as Abby was like playing a DLC from the game.
    Here's why: I was enjoying the story when it was Ellie getting revenge, as any TLOU fan we all thought we'd play Ellie for the whole game fine by me, but then when it later transitions to you now playing as Abby half the game i started caring less and less. There was just no backstory or anything to make you want to play her, all you really know is that she killed Joel so half the game your dreading playing as Abby/The bad guy and just unpatiently waiting for it to switch back to playing as Ellie. I mean we waited a lot of years to play again as Ellie and Joel so to have the story just make us play a different character right away didnt feel right. It just felt like it would have been best to have the whole Abby gameplay as a DLC in my opinion and to have the hours played as Abby be INSTEAD an extension of Ellie finding the ones involved of Joel's death and having Ellie instead developing a relationship with Lev and Yara continuing the adventure there on out for her revenge at Abby in the end. I would have loved that route instead.

    Honestly It just felt like this "Part 2" could have been better if it was placed in a Last of Us Part 3. The story should have been slowly building up for us to know the characters and have it transitioning to the current story as it is right now.

    So did this game feel like 7 years of hard work? Hell ya. Scenery and graphic wise absolutely beautiful. Game play still satisfying and fun as always. The adventure you get playing the game surely is something to reflect on when you beat it.
    7 years worth the wait though? Story wise probably not.

    If your a TLOU fan and dont know to get the game despite all these reviews and all, Id say get the game, try it out for yourself and see how YOU feel about it in the end. You'll still have fun regardless playing.    … Expand

    This game is probably my game of the generation I'll play it again soon and will play it on the next PlayStation. You must play this masterpiece. The graphics the atmosphere and the story are phenomenal.

    The game is absolutely stunning, from the visuals to voice acting to gameplay and story. Im currently on my second playthrough its still as satisfying as the first time.

    It's a game with good story(I've never played The Last Of Us so I don't give a **** about characters, what they were or whatever) , actor performance, montion capture. But the I can't stand Abby's muscles and I think the game should ended earlier then actually ended. And maybe the camera was sometimes **** up. I really enjoyed this game :-)

В начале игры, мне подарили ненависть к ней и уже позже, играя за неё, я начинаю понимать, что она поступает гораздо лучше, чем Элли. Амбала видную героиню показали ранимой девушкой с наличием страха высоты. Она показалась более хрупкой, чем безжалостно мстящая машина убийств Элли. Я по сути уже ненавидел их обоих, но никому не желал смерти. И вдруг меня ставят 1 на 1. С дрожащим ожиданием и опечаленным видом я смотрел на бой. Итог был таким, которого я хотел, но он оставил меня пустым. Ещё долго сидел и слушал музыку в титрах, а потом включил музыку из джокера и пошёл спать. Никогда не получал такой дозы эмоций, впечатлений от игры. Наверное самый лучший финал - разочаровывающий, потому что эффект от него невероятный.… Expand

Just finished my first playthrough an i absolutely loved it, I understand why some people are upset with His death but to me I always felt like he made the wrong choice at the end of the first game an him dying is the consequence of that choice. An i honestly really enjoyed playing as Abby i liked her story arc alot being able to see the story unfold on both sides was really interesting. I know people are upset but the amount of hate that is being thrown at the developers is just wrong, just cause you dislike something doesn't mean you should be hateful to people who do like i just let people be happy.… Expand

    wow what an absolute slap in the face to the fans. Then they have to blame the dislike of their **** writing on transphobia. I wish it were that simple. The gameplay can't completely compensate for last jedi tier writing.

    Gameplay- About the same. Moving things around to get from place to place replaced with jump. Story- Pretty much uprooted the first game, put into a fire pit, and burned. The characters are turned 180 degrees and pretty much unnoticeable. Post apocalyptic doesn't mean anything in this game. It has gone from a game of survival in which you need to survive with wits into a revenge plot that makes characters unlikable to the point of setting down your controller and returning the game. The story is the most hotly contested thing, and I have serious respect for it. It will challenge you and you will go through the stages of grief. You will be in denial, you may feel a bit angry too at first. A game is worthless as long as it is obnoxious to the point you lose your appetite to play. It is a pity for those reviewers that had to play (assuming they did) through and yet had to lie for whatsoever reason.

    I cannot understand how characters from the prequel went casually consumed for nothing. This is a betrayal to players who went for the game for all the reputation it had before. And no, I don't even want to talk about unrealistic character design or what. It is the very first scene of the game that ruins the whole experience, which is almost impossible to salvage -- and of course they didn't end good enough to pull it back. I was in a shocked state throughout and had no idea what was I playing.

    Waited years for a sequel with the 2 main protagonists, and I am forced to play half the game with a new one who has the charisma of a dump rag.

It was heart aching and shoved the idea that revenge is bad. But the reason why I give it a ten is how effective the game is to display the tragedy of Ellie. The game takes a character you love so much and destroy it, illustrating the flaws everyone has. I know many people may argue against me but if found this meaning in the game. This game is not like the first one, rather it pushes the boundaries of games becoming art. The developers don’t want you to have fun. Therefore, they strip every character that Ellie cares about and allow their deaths to be so pointless that her fight for revenge becomes pointless in itself. Joel died in such a stupid way because it is a parallel to Ellie’s need to die in a meaningful way as it would allow her life to have meaning. Hence when Joel stripped her ability to save humanity in the first game, Ellie lost her relationship with Joel because of that. Hence when Joel dies such a stupid and pointless death, Ellie fights for revenge for some catharsis. Her nightmares forcing her to kill Abby and then in the final climax she realising killing Abby won’t do anything, but rather her inability to forgive Joel for saving her and always trying to help her is why she is always tormented by Joel’s death. Thus realising that life doesn’t have to have any meaning and people die meaningless or pointless deaths. It’s an acceptance of living a life with satisfaction and around the people who care about you. It’s a growth in maturity for Ellie. It’s a brilliant tragedy of an acceptance of a harsh reality. The entire fight to Seattle and then Santa Barbara is so tiring and pointless to play because there is no meaning at all to have such a fight. That’s exactly what the developers want you to feel, that annoyance. It isn’t an enjoyable game like the first one, but that’s what drives the narrative and expressive intent by the creators. That’s why in the final scene inside of Ellie all along it’s the regret to not apologise Joel thy gives her the reason to her torment. Games can be art...… Expand

Almost everyone agrees that technical part of this game is top notch, story though is different story as it maybe is the most divisive and controversial among fandom across all favourite franchise. Everyone has their opinions, lets respect that.
    I personally like this game, it’s one of the most unique story-telling experiences i had in my life. I understand why certain people hate this game, and it’s the same reason why i love it.
    I hate Abby for joel’s death , i want to avenge his death so badly that i killed all WLF soldier in the most brutal ways. But then in the second half of the game, We got to control Abby, this murderer that killed our beloved characters. I dislike this part of the game at first, but when i experience what she felt and her lifes, i understand that no one is villain in this game. There’s no hero or bad guy in this game, everyone has it’s own motivation, people they cared about.
    Abby, is just another human being, like us.
    The ending is good also, Ellie didnt get to avenge Abby. She know Joel will never want Ellie to become the person he was after Sarah death, he wants Ellie to live happily with her lover, do things that she love to do, she deserves a better life than becoming killing machine. Even if Ellie did kill Abby, some people will eventually try to find her out and avenge her, potentially putting Dina and JJ , or even tommy in danger. She knows Joel wouldnt want that, so she let Abby go.
    Story itself is good, but the way story is told can be better in my opinion.
    If there’s a part3 , lets just hope Ellie is treated well, that kid suffers too much…..    … Expand

It is a title with so much love in it, every single detail of this game is astonishing.The gameplay is extremely fun, the gunplay is one of the best ever, and the narrative is almost perfect. TheIt saddens me to see this review bombing, especially since 95% of the people who are doing it haven't even play the game, they only read the spoilers. The Last of Us Part 2 doesn't deserve this. It is a title with so much love in it, every single detail of this game is astonishing.The gameplay is extremely fun, the gunplay is one of the best ever, and the narrative is almost perfect. The real miracle is in the characters of this game: they aren't written as simple characters of a game, they managed to write real people. Every single character is so real, they aren't bad or good, hero or villains, they're just people, with their own flaws and contradictions.     unfortunately as a story focused action RPG based off of my experience and love of the fantastic first game I can only give this a 4/10 total. The foundation at which this franchise was built upon in the first game, the love, depth and interaction between the main characters and its beautifully written movie moments have been shattered and replaced with a cast of grim, gore ridden, unlikeable grey tones, whos main aim seems to be hatred of all life including your valuable time. perhaps if you have not played the first one you may find some enjoyment here or if you loved the film "the road" and want to re watch it over 10 times in one sitting.

    - I enjoyed the atmosphere from time to time but as I said it was getting boring for me and other viewers.
    - Game play itself is nothing new. Stupid AI. Hard to move around. No new features were introduced since the first game. I shall remind you - it was 7 years ago, and this is 3A game.
    - PLOT. Classic revenge plot. Badly executed. If you would like to play a game with a similar scenerio check out Far Cry 3 - amazing game, still to this day. They knew how to handle this kind of story.

    Yes Joel dies. If you played the first game, you would feel attachment to these characters and feel the same anger that Ellie felt. Its a basic plot device and it worked out.
    Abby kills Joel immediately after he saves her. So what? Paints her as the main antagonist and the reason for Ellie's revenge motivations. If you weren't so busy writing half-assed hate letters to Naughty Dog you would be directing that anger toward Abby instead which makes the plot more compelling.
    Yes the Trailer models lied a blittlethis just makes Joel's deathmore shocking and the trailer didnt show anything that didnt happen in a cut scene or flashback.
    Ellie is a lesbian. Its 2020 theres a lot of LGBT in games movies etc. and it was portrayed in a way that doesnt feel forced. There issome force racial diversity which is why im giving 9 and not a 10 but it is hard to believe that a white girl, a Mexican jew and an asian guy would be in the same room during the apocalypse, and when 90% of the population is dead. I have anything against diversity but that is too forced. There are complaints about gameplay being outdated. Why would you change a key part of a critically acclaimed game? You don't because its popular for a reason.
    Thjs game was review bombed within an hour of release so the most people would have known about it is that Joel died Review bombing is a toxic trend and it seriously needs to stop. People put many hours of work into these and you are going out of your way to degrade their efforts. They don't have to make games for you. Right.....Well naughtydog devs have done a bad job playing as the person that kills Joel is an awful idea I understand playing Abby up until they get to the cabin where Joel dies but after that are we supposed to feel sorry for Abby and what's shes gone through if so I don't think many people will if even any, I heavily disliked the ending they could have done so much better Yes having them fight at the end is good but it should have been very different For instance Instead of showing Joel beaten and dead they should have showed him playing the guitar and that is what should have made Ellie fight and every so often a quick little flash of Joel beaten and dead would have been much better it would have driven Ellie into fighting harder and eventually killing Abby and letting Ellie finally be at rest. Then it should have shown Ellie going back to Jackson and telling Tommy what she has done and them reminiscing there times with Joel. I also don't care for the fact they make Ellie a lesbian it makes no difference to me I couldn't care less about it but I don't think they should have highlighted it they way they did to get on the good side of the media Wich clearly didn't work and it's totally out of character… Expand

    A dark, beautiful journey fulfilled with violence. A rich, deep emotional roller coaster for me personally. I enjoyed it very much, even more than I enjoyed tlou1. Both the game itself, and what happened around the game made me think. This is definitely not a game for everyone. Please don't hate others if they don't agree you on this game.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have played and beaten The Last of Us Part 2 twice now. I can say that the game is not a 10/10 or 100/100, which some critics are giving it. Nor is the game a 0/10 or 0/100, as some angry fans have been posting. This game has flaws and imperfections, while at the same time having its merits.

    Overall 6.5
    The game is beautiful graphicly speaking. There should be no arguing this. I spent a fair amount of time enjoying the world. Some of the scenes were amazing, especially some of the ones around sunset. I found myself going into photo mode to take some pictures.

    GRAPHICS: The game is easily a 9/10, maybe even a 9.5/10

    The gameplay was fun while having its share of bugs and repetitiveness. One such bug happened when the character grabs someone and try to move them to a place where NPC would not easily spot their bodies. The game would often cause Elly or Abby to spin around in circles. Causing my sense of direction to be thrown off so that one it stopped spinning them around. I would either run into the enemy or get spotted, becoming an annoyance. Then there was the repetitiveness of mashing square for almost everything. They could of at least gave the players some other buttons to change it up.

    GAMEPLAY: For all of this, I am giving the game a 6/10 for gameplay.

    The Last of Us Part 2's story was the biggest issue for the game. The first game set up these characters and their personalities. In the first game, Joel was a survivor who did not trust people until they earned it. His experiences surviving in his apocalyptic world taught him. People could not be trusted. In a scene from the first game, Joel runs over someone. That seemed to be in trouble and seeking help all because of his distrust for people he did not know. Throughout the first game, he teaches Ellie how to survive and be leary of others.

    Then in The Last of Us Part 2, Joel is killed for trusting Abby and her group. I believe this would have never happened. As I feel Joel would have taken her back to her group and most likely left her outside the gate. Then head off to find shelter elsewhere from the storm. Other then Joel's death is out of character for him. I feel they made a huge mistake killing him before making us play as Abby. I know that I hated having to play her and wanted her dead.

    Had the first part of the game started with Abby's story allowing us to see why she hated Joel and wanted him dead. Then play some of her struggle to find Joel. The player could have gotten to know Abby as a character. Even dare I say like the character and her friends to help the player to understand and accept that she kills Joel later on in the game.

    As it is now, the story is a complete mess. With Abby killing Joel, Ellie going after Abby's friends to find Abby and killing them for their involvement in Joel's death. Leading to Ellie's second run-in with Abby, but before we get to play out that encounter. The player switches to Abby, playing her story up to and through the confrontation with Ellie. Now the player steps back into the shoes of Ellie, who is living with her lover Dena. Ellie suffers from PTSD and is having a hard time dealing with the fact that Abby is still out there. Ellie packs some things in the middle of the night after receiving news on where Abby is from Tommy. Dena confronts Ellie and pleads with her to forget about Abby. When Ellie tells her she can't and goes to leave. Dena says she won't be here when she gets back.

    Ellie tracks down Abby, and they have a final battle, but instead of killing Abby. Ellie lets her walk away. So in this mess up story, Abby gets to walk away with the loss of a few friends but otherwise has a somewhat hopeful future. While Ellie, the character that everyone cares about, lost everything. She loses her father figure, Joel. She loses her friend Jessi. She loses her lover, Dena. She even loses her ability to play her guitar. What for Revenge that she didn't even get because she lets Abby walk.

    STORY 4/10 it had potential had they changed and done some things differently.    … Expand

    First of all, the score of Gustavo Santaolalla is just perfect. The gameplay is great. The graphics are awesome (except some scenes, like the model of Ellie in the flashbacks of the last minute of the original game). Now, TLOU is a heavily story-based game. And this sequel lacks completely coherence, originality and meaning. It's bad writing at it finest.

    Look, I loved the first game. It's characters, their bond, the ambiance, the soundtrack... But this one just doesn't feel like a real sequel. The only moments I felt like I was playing a real sequel of the last of us were in the flashbacks of Joel and Ellie.
    I'm okay with Joel dying, but the way it happens its just poorly written. It isn't "brave"; It's cheap. The whole -parent figure dying and fuels the journey of his kid in name of revenge- is overused. Also the whole "revenge is bad" is extremely overused. And at last, -forgiving the enemy to not become an horrible person-let go the past- cliche, has been reused so many times that it has become comical. By the way, most of the game is filled up with a lot of plot holes and the pacing of the story is so tedious and boring.
    And, at last: Abby. She's unlikable. Her character has pretty much no depth. We are forced to play as her for sooo many hours in a game that was supposed to be an Ellie's new adventure. It almost seemed to be more like an Abby's stand-alone game. And if that were the case (without including Joel or Ellie and ruining their arc's), we wouldn't mind.

    So, to sum up: Loved the soundtrack, graphics and part of the gameplay (which can get very repetitive, and boring due to the slow pacing and the story) Absolutely hated the story and writing, direction and purpose of it.

    This ain't The Last of Us. At least, not for me.    … Expand

The story side is utterly garbage. They tried to disconnect themselves from the first game by being aggressively progressive in their story, but by doing so they disconnect themselves from the gamers.

    It’s a shame really, the complexity of the characters are nonexistent in the second one. I hope whoever decided this was a good direction will be fired or replaced from naughty dog. I legit returned this game when they killed Joel, and forced me to play as Abby. GTFOH. Abby is as complex as a piece of rock.    … Expand
