The game's visuals are absolutely stunning and truely represent how far we have come in technology to create such beautiful graphics. Another piece I liked about this game was that there are multiple difficulty levels the player can choose from. The fighting is pretty much just like the previous game. You can upgrade your weapons and can craft first aids, molotavs, etc. Hm. Yeah that's it.

    Now for the bad.

I will try my best not to spoil this but if you are reading this, PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS GAME UNLESS YOU LOVE THE FEELING OF EMPTYNESS AND UNFULLFILLMENT. The characters you loved in the last game are not the same, as if they were written completely differently or as if the characters had amnesia and forgot about how much they care about each other. Many decisions the characters made in this game made no sense and leaves the player frustrated beyond belief because the PLAYER cannot PLAY the game in crucial moments. The player is forced to perform actions that no true person with any sense of morality would. The game tricks the player into thinking we will get a happy ending or at least a satisfying ending, yet when the ending rolls in, we are left hurt, confused, and angry. I am sorry, but when you make a game that is mostly loved and known for the story, you better make the sequel to it just as good. Unfortunately, this game does not have a well written story and there are many plot holes. I can't say much more without spoiling, but just know that I will always believe the Last of Us ended 7 years ago when it was first released. I will not accept this sequel as part of one of the best stories in video game history.

So before I begin, I'm about as left as one can get without sporting a hammer and sickle. Saying that even I grasp subtlety and nuance. This game has none of that. I tried really hard to avoid the leaks because I sooo wanted it to be good.
-If I were just rating it on graphics, ambiance, and music it would be perfect.
-Gameplay is pretty much the same as the first which is fine, kinda

-If I were just rating it on graphics, ambiance, and music it would be perfect.
-Gameplay is pretty much the same as the first which is fine, kinda frustrating at some points but
overall a still good play through.
-Were it face plants is in the narrative, characters, and plot.
-I expected this game to be about Ellie, it would have been disappointing if it wasn't. I'm not "triggered " because she's gay. I've been rockin' gay female Shepard since Mass Effect 1. Certain character deaths were kinda expected to move the story along (the hero arc formula).
-It feels heavily padded out to introduce new characters that don't really seem to serve a purpose other than to kill time. I never came to identify or even like any of them. Forgettable comes to mind. Most of the character plots and arcs go nowhere leaving me just wondering "why were they even there?".
-The game makes a point to make you feel bad. It ham-fists the "dichotomy of man" constantly. I felt like it was nagging me almost to the point were I almost quit playing.
-Its dark and depressing. There's no sense of hope or optimism. The first game gave you a dark, surly, cynical main character that life took everything from, and over the story rebuilt him with a likable, sassy, lost child. This game says "Don't even bother trying to live. Life's just going to come and kick you in the d#$k anyway" style.
-Some reviewers seem to want to give it a high score for what it tried to do, but other games have already done it and done it better.
-If I were to some it up, its just a cheap, lazy, petty, revenge story with nice cut-scenes. Its been done better by those with less.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's start with a good one. Great sound, musical accompaniment, one of the best atmospheres of the overgrown green zombie post-Apocalypse. Great graphics, gorgeous locations, with wildly beautiful and good detail. Everything is alive and beautiful, the weather is great. Models of weapons, animations, characters, infected and textures are photorealistic. Perfect color scheme. It is very interesting to explore the map. And everything except the plot, double morals and other things related to the narrative of the plot, the plot itself, and cheap techniques of playing on the imposed feelings is good. I don't even want to talk about the plot, it's just awful. Joel was made a villain, even though he saved his daughter from death in the first part, though not his own. Because the chance was less than 20 % and the cicadas still wanted to get the vaccine. And given the atrocities they committed, they would have used it for their own purposes. Joel is not a fool, decided to save Ellie. And now the writers are trying to make him look like a monster, making an angel out of (spoiler), even though she's a pure rat. There is also a bunch of moronic plot twists that just killed the plot in the game. So for me, it's just a single-player game with no plot, running for 30 hours. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLOU was never about the zombies. It was never about the gameplay. I was never about the graphics. TLOU was about the relationship between Joel and Ellie. Throughout part 1 you could see how their relationship develops and it touched a lot heart of everyone who loved the game.

TLOU had some of the strongest dialogue between characters. The scene where Ellie runs away on a horse and Joel finding her after is an example of what made the story and characters into one of the most praised game to date.

Then you get to part 2. Completely stray away from what defined TLOU. Yeah Joel isn't a good guy and his death was justified, but by doing so, it ruins the whole game. TLOU is literally about Joel and Ellie's relationship. It isn't TLOU without one or the other. I'm not sad because they killed off a main character. I'm sad because their relationship was what defined the franchise. If they wanted to kill off Joel, at least do it at the end of the game then end the franchise there. When either of them dies, its the end of the franchise so might as well do it at the end of the game then end the franchise there.

TLOU 2 completely ruined the franchise for me and it's a shame because part 1 was one, if not, my favourite game of all time.

    I rate this game a:
    fingers lost / 10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm so disappointed with this overpriced horror show. A complete deconstruction of the first game and the characters you developed a connection to therein. Just a complete brutality to basically every character new and old, and the whole franchise's reputation.

Joel announcing his name to a group of strangers he already seemed suspicious of despite knowing that people could be looking for him after what he did was so forced and out of character. Ellie walking in on Joel getting beaten to death, GUN IN HAND, and not immediately shooting Abby was also incredibly ooc. Poor writing, not just in the overall story but also in terms of the characters is literally used as a gratuitous stepping stone, AKA a shameless excuse to get to all of the brutal, gorey violence.

Noy to mention it ends in a bleak way with no silver lining at all. Compare that to the way the first one, while bleak in nature still had its nice moments. Its moments of "ya know what maybe this hellscape is worth sticking around for." But this game? I'd get more enjoyment shoving fingernail clippings up my a** hole.

Don't get me wrong, I expected it to be bleak. The tone of the game is post-apocalypse. It revolves around death and the ugliness of man and yes yes it's all very grim. That kind of prepares you for how this isn't going to be a totally happy story. But everything they built up and established in the first game is just burned to the ground.

All the gameplay is basically the same as the first with some exploration buffs and NPC tweeks, companion AI feels clunkier now but a lot of the interactions between your people and between enemies outside of cutscenes feels very fluid and natural. That said, a lot of the stuff that's good about the game is done in flashbacks to when Ellie was younger. The actual current story they're telling had potential but the executuion is poor.

The game is trying so hard to get a specific reaction while blowing holes in why and how you should feel that way. We are supposed to empathise with Abby just because we are exposed to her when we're forced to play as her? We are supposed to think bad of Ellie when she killed Mel after Mel attacked her first instead of just pleading "I'm pregnant!"?

Abby killed the man that saved her life brutally and mercilessly. She wasn't able to empathise at all with why Joel might have done what he did, but you are expected to empathise with her? She even goes on to have a similar, protective sort of relationship with Lev as Joel did with Ellie. Maybe not in a parental way, but the parallels are still there. It really could have been a good story had they spent more time on the gap years rather than jumping straight a timeskip and Joel's very premature death.

All of this and the fact that the ending is not at aaaaall worth it makes this feel so incredibly soulless. They wanted to go down the route of "is there really a good guy in this kind of world?", and that idea could be incredible. But then they butcher the execution. Force you to play as the character who beat Joel to death for a massive portion of the game, and leave off with a terrible ending.

Ellie stated in the first game that she's most afraid of ending up alone, and they did that to her. She suddenly realises that killing is wrong after slaughtering countless men and women to get to this moment with Abby. She is in the middle if drowning her and suddenly lets her live. This woman killed Joel, almost killed Dina. In fact, upon hearing that Dina was pregnant from a battered and bleeding Ellie, she says "Good.", and proceeds to almost slit her throat only that Lev stops her. But Ellie suddenly forgets all of that and lets her leave.

Ellie goes back to Dina only to find she has left already, goes into a room and sees her guitar in its case. She pulls it out and learns she can no longer play the way Joel showed her all those years ago because she had her fingers bitten off during the struggle with Abby. She props the guitar up by the window, almost as if in memory of the man who taught her to paly, and leaves it behind. She has no use for it now. Ellie walks through the field outside, alone. Joel dead. Tommy partially paralysed but his characterisation definitely got massacred. Dina gone. Cut to credits. Game over.

There isn't even a slither of happiness in this game. Was the lesson "revenge is bad"? Because if so, they should have rolled the credits as soon as Abby killed Joel and told players "if that made you uncomfortable, do not seek revenge." In big writing before rolling the credits.
Either way the ending would leave you shifting uncomfortably with a bad taste in your mouth.

Neil Druckman should be ashamed of the false advertising via trailers and "10/10" reviews that sprouted up after all of the leaks. Just wait for how quickly the price drops on the PS Store to see how poorly it did. And even when it's cheap, don't subject yourself to this trashfire.

Lamentablemente, además de no lograrlo, echa a perder la riqueza de una saga a la que, sin lugar a dudas, le quedaba mucho por dar. SPOILER ALERT.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is an insult to the gaming community from a Developer that did so well with The Last of Us 1 with it's storytelling and gameplay, to follow such an incredible game with this is horrific to say the least.

The gameplay is clunky and has seen no real improvements since the first game which is surprising considering how much time they had to create it.

The visuals are really no better in comparison to the first but has opted for a darker and woefully dull colour scheme.

Lastly the main glaring issue with this game, the storyline, in some woke new age where Naughty Dog's main man Neil Druckmann has decided to remove the fun from his game to portrait a forward thinking agenda, he has completely undone all the previous work from its predecessor in the way this storyline has affected the main characters in such a disrespectful manner to which their demise was played out and all at the hands of a woman so muscular that I've lived a hefty portion of my life never seeing one so 'manish' in human society.

All in all this game couldn't have paid me enough money to write a good review about this shambles of a 'AAA title', i would even go so far to say that i wish i hadn't played the first game if it meant saving me from this level of disappointment, Naughty Dog had so long to make this game a hit and couldn't even accomplish that, if i were you i would avoid this game at all costs and i believe that you and your wallet will thank me.

So, I was super excited for The Last of Us Part 2. My excitement was through the roof, I couldn't believe it, I finally got to play the game after avoiding spoilers like crazy because the game got leaked. My excitement quickly disappeared after playing just a couple of hours. There were many cringe-worthy dialogues to the point I would physically cringe my face and say ugh out loud. There was a massive event that occurred within the first two hours. I was absolutely devastated. I did not want to play this game anymore but I spent $60, so I kept playing. The game takes you on 10 hours long side quest with new characters, and they were very unlikable and uninteresting. I pushed through, finished the game, hoping the ending will pay off all of the time I put into this game. Unfortunately, it didn't. The ending was just.... unsatisfying. This game does not feel like a sequel to the first game, instead, it felt like Naughty Dog and Co created a new universe that had some characters from the first game who had a cameo in the new game just to please the fans. There are no words I can use to describe how I felt after completing the game. I'm just sad I waited for 7 years for this game, only to see the story line make almost no sense, there are so many plot holes, so many characters that can't be related. I do not recommend spending $60 and about 16-20 hours of your lifetime into this game. It also didn't help seeing so many great reviews which raised my expectations. I wonder if the critics played a different game than us? I dunno man. :( Expand

It upsets me that I have to say this about such a dear and beloved game to both me and many other peopleI don't think there's really much I need to say considering most people on this site reviewing this game have said a lot of it already, and there has been a lot of denial and hate coming from people making positive reviews to those that are more critical and care about this game a lot. It upsets me that I have to say this about such a dear and beloved game to both me and many other people out there, but I'll give my opinion on this game anyway.

While the last of us part 2 delivers on the graphical front, and in its diversity and improvements in gameplay customisation and mechanics, it certainly does not on the story, it fails to give its respective fans and and it's universe a place where things really feel grounded, and does not deliver satisfying in-game objectives or a narrative that is enjoyable and understandable, if its goal was to try and get me to stop playing, then it fulfilled its purpose, because I wasn't impressed or pleased, bearing in mind I tried to keep an open mind to all of the narrative decisions, god forbid you have a good story in a quite literally story-driven game. A lot of the choices seem to be made for the purpose of creating conflict and trying to get an emotional rise out of the player in order to emphasise it's message of "revenge", but only falls head first on itself. It doesn't respect it's established universe, and doesn't care what the previous game had put in place, and it doesn't give itself time to develop, it feels like it ends before it has time to even begin. Therefore, it neither shows respect for its viewers nor characters, which I think is an understatement considering the events that take place in this game. I won't be listing any spoilers or any other reasons as to why that's the case, but I'm afraid I really cannot recommend this game. It's not just disappointing, or angering, it's honestly just sad, and not because it just didn't go how some had imagined or wanted, but because I don't think the people behind the game itself even knew what they wanted, or were even trying to communicate or accomplish with this game, it remains a mess through and through. If you're playing the game for gameplay and mechanics, then I certainly can recognise the improvements and recommend those specific parts, the same goes for graphics too as mentioned in the beginning of this, but story, is and will remain in its same awful and poorly written state, and I do not recommend it for those looking to get the deserved sequel of The Last of Us 2.

after seeing all the perfect 10/10 I became a little skeptical. especially since most never talked about the story and just praised the "representation" in video games.

now im glad I didn't listen to them. my brother and I waited all night for the game to finish downloading and stated up until 6 in the morning.

the graphics looked amazing. which wasn't surprising considering the last game is still amazing.

but that's the only good part about the game.

the story, the main reason people loved the first game, was a complete **** show. i was hoping that the leaks were just lies, or there was missing context that would make it work in the end. but no.

no one is likable in this game. Joel is suddenly a dumbass who knows he shouldn't trust people, starts trusting a group of strangers, and is killed like he was another random NPC that no one cares about.

and who gives a **** if Abby is trans? this character was so unlikeable I feel bad that THIS is sposed to be their representation.

after just 6 hours of playing, my brother turned the game off and is trying to look up how to get his money back on PlayStation4.

if you don't give a f--- about the story, then ya, get the game. it looks great and plays similarly to the original.

but if you're like me and most people who fell in love with this game series for the story, don't get this. you will be very disappointed.

I was expecting some of this due to the leaks but I was also expecting a truly ground breaking game play experience to make it all worth the pain. On my first assumption it delivered in spades, I hated every single character including ellie. Joel was the only person I identified with and I won't spoil what they do to him. My second assumption however fell flat at my feet. It maintains all of the immersion killing flaws of the first game,(Poor Enemy AI, stealh detection) as well as the gameplay that made the first game feel like a grind. (prepare to spend half of Last of us 2 crawling around, throwing bricks at walls ). The animations are quite good but after after a while you begin to see through the illusion of a seemingly dynamic action system and into the reality of a very nice canned animations system that triggers the same regardless of different approaches and conditions that should mutate them. i.e. jumping on a horse without anyone else already on it will trigger the same animation as when your partner is waiting in the saddle. Due to the momentum and carelessness of the animation your character would almost certainly knock the other character off the horse IRL. Once again this is of course pretty standard for a modern game but my point is that LOU2 is not the revolutionary game that LOU1 was. All in all, I could have done without LOU2. It only served to tarnished the sentimental appreciation I had for of the first game which is now tarnished by the nauseous bad taste from the second game.

The "sjw" aspect while it is prevalent and makes for weird things in the game(abby design being the most obvious non spolly thing I could talk about) isn't what makes the game bad
The gameplay is bad, the maniability of your character is better than in witcher 3 at least (lol) but the rest of the gameplay is really below any standards you'd have for a triple a title especially when compared with similar game (tps sneak shooting game)
That isn't to say the gameplay is **** and the level design+Ai is good enough to make for good thriling action which actually makes for entertaining moment although it get pretty repetitive very fast and I did feel bored while playing the game
The game scenery is really beautiful and the level of details are quite crazy for a ps4 , similarly the sound design is really good and does help a lot with immersion (I played with the voice in french and the actor did a great job too)
Now why does all that warrant a 4 ?
The story was what I and I assume most people were looking forward to since it's the most important thing in this franchise which never shined through it's gameplay
It's honestly complete **** and it's really hard to explain without spoiling but the characters really make incredibly stupid decision and ellie especially acts so much out of character
    I thought TLOU1 was a writing masterpiece
TLOU2 on the other hand is on the level of a regular blockbuster or a 50shades of grey type book
I'm not joking that's how ridiculously bad the writing was
The game is meant to be disgusting and sad on purpose but after a while I was just desensitized and I kept playing just to see how ridiculous the story would keep getting
And it kept getting worse and worse and worse
The amount of time a scene was supposed to be serious and sad or/and horrible and I was laughing or not caring was quite crazy
And I'm a pretty sensitive guy (I cried in the MGV killing your own men scene for **** sakes)
The only scene that made me emotionally evolved where the scene with joel and the flashbacks ellie had
This game made me dislike the character of ellie while I loved her in the TLOU1
The game takes everything from you away and try to force you to like character that you simply cannot like because of what they previously did
From start to finish you lose thing and don't gain anything
A non spoiler summary of this game : A revenge story where in the end the only revenge enacted aren't even gameplay related but in cutscene from character you don't control
So buy this game if : You don't care about a pretty bad cliche and very forced story that will either make you feel bad or will feel ridiculous+ You don't mind a gameplay that isn't really amazing
Don't buy this game if : You care about gameplay or story
This isn't the standard that should be set in this industry
Video game will never be considered an art if you don't make it's most unique component one of the main thing in your "art" (gameplay and interactive story)

The score is a two, because the gameplay and design are done successfully. The story itself, and the execution of the character choices can not be comprehensible to any human being. The inaccuracies of human choices makes this story one of the worst stories in video games to date.

If you are looking for a fun game with stealth and shooting, I would suggest playing the original Last of Us or Metal Gear Solid 5. Red Dead Redemption II is also another strong choice. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Comparing the quality of the writing in TLOU2 to GoT S8 is both appropriate and the kindest thing you can say about the writing.
Having waited 7 years for the sequel to the most intense, satisfying & powerful cinematic story in gaming, this is a disaster. All the characters act like they're in the first few months after the pandemic & struggling to come to terms with their new, violent reality. It permeates the game. There are some interesting ideas & themes that are never fleshed out or explored & are constantly mired in dialogue & behaviour expected of modern college kids, not those raised in the apocalypse. The technical aspects are as stunning as the performances, the story is nonsensical & unsatisfying at best. The gameplay is completely at odds with the narrative themes it so ineptly attempts to thrust at you, with all the subtlety and appeal of a homeless person thrusting a rotten pigeon carcass in your face and asking you to kiss their baby. It's the poster child for ludonarrative dissonance. There are enjoyable moments to be found, but even though it's a short game, it drags painfully. The ending is unsatisfying and invalidates the theme Neil claims he built the story around even more than the gameplay which not only forces you to slaughter trainloads of strangers, but take satisfaction in it, as shown by the constant mumbling both player characters constantly indulge in every time they do anything or think anything.
The story is barely worth a point. I've added a bonus point for the brilliant work on display by the production teams, none of which can remotely compensate for this intelligence insulting indulgence in narrative imbecility, stitched together by a complete reliance on constant, unbelievable coincidences and truly cretinous behaviour by all the characters, but especially those previously shown to be smart, cunning, suspicious and capable. What a waste.

The games message at the end is... (SPOILERS BELOW!)

That revenge is bad. It starts with Abbie getting her own personal revenge by killing joel. Then through out the game, Ellie murders people to get to Abbie so she can get her revenge, yet at the very end "Murder bad!" So Ellie lets Abbie live and Abbie gets to take the person she cares about away.

So basically Ellie isnt allowed to get revenge as "Getting revenge means bad.". Yet, Abbie in the end, was rewarded for her revenge quest.

How the hell is this a proper story? It makes no sense to me!

Total waste of money and I will never buy another naughty Dog game. Total bait and switch from the trailers. Plus I am so tired of my entertainment being bombarded with politics. Expand

    Game play: 7/10
    Music: 8/10
    Story: 2/10

ND gameplay is always average at best. You don't play ND games because of their gameplay, you play it for the amazing visuals and sound, the music, and the story. Their games are always breathtakingly gorgeous. Music is always well done. So in a way, they really don't get bonus points for doing what ND is known for.

Troy Baker is at his absolute best and hit a grand slam every time he was at the plate. Ashley Johnson was amazing. This doesn't mean the dialogue was well written, far from it.

The story is horrendous. Character development was weak. Where is the "Bill"? The "Tess"? The "Ish" (even though you never meet him! he was awesome!)? It was ultra violent for the sake of being ultra violent. And so much so early, that it lessened the impact of it as the game progressed. It completely veered from the 2016 announcement trailer and the last big trailer that showed Joel (and not Jesse) saying "You think I'd let you do this on your own?".

Someone, somewhere decided that a story rewrite was in order which resulted in the near year delay. Flashbacks were re-used to save development dollar.

It could have been the coda for the PS4 before the arrival of the PS5. It's just disappointing.

A franchise killer. Ellie, the cute tough, funny kid is now an ugly, morose, bitter, whiney child. Joel, the tough jaded man who grew to love Ellie as his own is treated like so much trash. The man/girl thing villian is horrible. All of the people in the game are unlikable and ugly. Gone is the humor and love thst offset the horrors in the first gsme. Its sll just ugly trash now

I really enjoyed the first game and would recommend that anybody that hasn't played yet, do so. This sequel just didn't live up to expectations and because of that I'm giving it a bad rating.

Great graphics, and game play quite fun... But I felt like there was an agenda aside from making a good game, that was trying to make some kind of point that had nothing to do with the story. People wanted to play this game based on the previous experience we had. But instead it seemed like this game was merely a means to an end. The end being a message they are trying to send.

I don't understand what the plan with this game was. I never normally post reviews, in fact I made my account just to review this because I feel cheated.

This is a story driven game, but the story is irredeemable. Characters act like they are completely different people. Things happen that don't make the game enjoyable. There is so, so much boring filler. After the first few hours, I didn't want to finish the game but decided that it was worth getting to the end just for a bit of catharsis. But the ending was a joke. There is no depth to this story. It is shallow and petty and completely ludicrous.

The gameplay is average. It feels dated for a 2020 game. AI is barely improved and the linear level design gets old fast. Often I would slog through the stealth sections and firefights just to get to the next cutscene.

The audio and visuals are incredible. Stellar, the best I've ever seen on a game.

    Story - 1/10
    Gameplay - 6/10
    Graphics - 9/10

Because the story is the selling point of this game, and because this game catastrophically fails to deliver, I can not justify giving this game any higher than a 2/10.

If you buy this game, you will be disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. i honestly think the best part of the game is the first couple minutes because it showed ellie and Joel's relationship continue to grow, especially when he started playing that guitar, it made me think of playing the original for the first time again.i cant believe they killed off Joel for the shock value. the whole bonding between the characters is what made the first game so great, but after seeing what they did to Joel, i was disgusted, i want nothing to do with this game. the only reason i'm giving this a 2/10 is because of the amazing graphics, sound design and the first couple minutes of the game. a story driven game is worth nothing if the story upsets its fans like this. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
