Then imagine finding out years later that there will be a sequel to a game that you already love. You go out to buy the new sequel, The Last of Us Part 2, getting home and start playing the game. Then imagine being faced with nothing but disappointment. You find out that the developer has been lying about the content of the sequel and has been false advertising about the story about Joel. Now imagine one of the main characters that you love , Joel gets killed in a way to show killing the patriarchy. Yes, they kill Joel with a golf club to symbolize him being killed by a male reproductive external organ. What's worse, in the game you are forced to do horrid unethical things but you don't get a choice. You have to do it in order to progress in the game then the game nags you about what a horrid person you are after wards. The cherry on the top, you have to play as Joel's killer. It was bad enough that he was killed, but then you have to play as his murderer. The game has great graphics and the game mechanics I find sub par, but the story and lack character development has led me to have nothing but disdain for this game. I would only buy this game as a gift to people that I dislike. If you love the first The Last of Us, then don't buy/play this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So, first of all:
The first game is a masterpiece, phenomenal graphics for its time coupled with a meaningful and emotional plot. The gameplay was good, not great, though. Anyway, it was expected for anyone to go into the second game with high expectations.
Well, then the leaks came, and those who saw it realized that everything the first game built was basically thrown into the thrash.

Here's a summary if you decided to avoid the leaks and warnings:
The main character, Joel, is killed two hours into the game in the most imbecile way possible. After that, you are FORCED to play as the character who killed him and the game even makes you try and sympathize with him/her. I honestly don't know what "gender to assume" for this character here, and an awkward and unnecessary sex scene only worsen things. If this character was conceived as a trans person, then it was one of the most disrespectful representations I've seen. By the way, TLoU II is full of misrepresented people. Not going into details here, but you can check the videos, it is outright disgusting and made for pure shock value. That’s just not how you do it, not how you do it at all.
Now, the game is told like a revenge story of sorts, but never works. Joel and his brother are killed in front of Ellie, who forgets about it for a time (CORRECTION: Only Joel was killed, Tommy comes back later. The guy took a shotgun shot to the head and still managed to survive, go figure). Then, a long time later, Ellie is visited by Tommy and decides to abandon everything she had (even girlfriend and her kid) to finally get revenge for Joel's death. Also, according to flashbacks in the game, it is hard to believe how Ellie still cares about Joel, who is mistreated by her several times, so that was maybe remorse instead of revenge? Idk.
Anyway, back to this joke of story, Ellie finds Joel’s killer, Abby, and after a brutal fight decides not to kill her/him. Yeah, that's it, she just tells Abby to go home.
The game ends with Ellie alone, struggling to play a guitar because she got her fingers bitten and removed during the last fight.

    What a mess.

Finally, let’s set the record straight, the graphics are awesome and the voice acting is top notch, gameplay stays basically the same, so still somewhat good, if sometimes a bit clunky.
But don’t be fooled, we can’t just paint a turd gold and expect people to love it. If anything all this eye-candy only makes everything even more sad, like a big missed opportunity to build a game that respects Joel/Ellie journey and relationship.
Shame for Sony, shame for Naughty Dog and shame for everyone actively involved in making the game like it turned out.

I gave this game 2/10 because two are the fingers Ellie lost. So, if I was not just trying to be funny, my rate would be a very round zero.
In short, I don't know who you are or where you are from, if you liked the first game or not, but I can tell you this: Stay away from The Last of Us Part II!

Boring, repitive, linear. The characterisation is foreced and story is not engaging. Gameplay is the same as part 1 with some nuances. Everyone just seems angry. You can hear the conversation at the first production meeting. "Same again only more woke so we win the awards" It gets a 1 because its pretty and another 1 beacuse the mechanics are fun for a while at the start.

First off, I’d like to clear the air:

    1. It is - at the end of the day - just a game. A fictional story with fictional people, who are fighting dam zombies for God’s sake. No one should seriously consider this as a substitute for legitimate social commentary and/or academic work. I am confident most human beings who play this game will not finish it - merely chuckle, call it too depressing/sad/unrealistic/insert adjective - and move on with their life. The game will NOT move the the field forward, and will be forgotten QUICKLY. Inspiration does not equal reality. Thus no one - devs or fans - should get anymore riled up. Keep the peace. The devs are mostly decent people, as are most fans. The following review is of course negative, but I have taken care to ensure my criticism is as impersonal as possible.

    2. Its “divisiveness” seems to be mostly a lie, or at least exaggerated. The creators clearly did damage control by saying the game was created this way - when in reality, its problems just came to surface.

    3. The game itself is not too bad - perhaps a middling shootfest at best - but the major problems are the thematic components. The often quoted cycle of revenge leading to hard won forgiveness isn’t explored accurate to reality, but doesn’t want to be melodramatic either - leading one to question whether two different perspectives made this game. Either way, it’s overwhelmingly inaccurate, yet ineffectively melodramatic storyline fails on both execution strategies.

However, the real reason I am penalizing it harshly is because it reinforces a cycle of nihilistic pessimism found in today’s media. To even state this game is trying to “discuss” or “bring up” issues is a clear misrepresentation of the truth - it has a certain perspective on life that it poorly defends. As anyone who works in social work knows (I have, for multiple years) - this is about the worst thing to put out to the public. Thus, in the interest of protecting the mentally fragile - I strongly advise this game to be censored, significant sequences to be cut, or scrapped altogether. I repeat - MEDIA THAT MIGHT CAUSE MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS IN PEOPLE DUE TO ITS POOR UNDERSTANDING OF SOCIAL ISSUES is not worthy of being sold. Those at-risk people will not see the game for what it is - an Americanized, ego-centric, woefully inaccurate glamorizing of grief - they might actually associate some parts to their worldview. This is categorically unethical.

I apologize if the review seems harsh, but you can’t just make games carelessly - some thought has to be put into your audience. Artistry requires attention, and attention of people is lost when trust between creator and consumer is breached.

Regardless, remember none of this is that deep. I hope whoever reads this - fan, hater, or neutral - hope you have a great rest of day and a great life ahead.

I'm giving it a two just to praise the horribly overworked employees that poured their hearts into those portions of the game. The rest of the game is absolute dog **** The characters from the first game act so mind boggling stupid and in a way that is completely inconsistent with their behaviors from the first game. I know people mature and things change but just the series of events that leads up to a main characters demise is absolutely ridiculous. It's clear the writers did this to get from point A to point golf club to push the story of Abby on all of us. The game from that point just spins further into massive plot holes, terrible writing, and honestly probably just one of the worst and unsatisfying overall stories I've ever experienced in my life. I just don't understand how they could go from the quality story and character development in TLoU 1 to this absolute dumpster fire. Heartbroken, that's how I feel. Character assassination to the highest of levels. Killing Joel would have been fine, killing him this way? Making one of the most badass characters in gaming history look like a **** moron? **** hell. Ellie going on this quest for revenge, killing all those people and she spares the most despicable one because of a vision of Joel. The man who would have not only killed them, but also tortured them if she was the one that died. And what is the moral of the story? This franchise is dead. I just hope they won't make more games. It hurts seeing one of my favourite games being burned to the ground.

A bleak trudge through a largely disappointing series of combat encounters that relies on shock value to carry its clumsily-paced story. The gameplay has seen some improvements from the previous entry and the environments and character models are impressive, but the whole experience feels needlessly maudlin, dwelling on traumatic events with an insistence that borders on pornographic.

There’s something off with the tone of this one, in comparison with the original, beloved game, and the difference is jarring enough to keep me from enjoying either the story or the generally repetitive, uninspired gameplay.

If this were an original IP, it would be much easier to rate it higher. To evaluate it as a story in a different genre, and praise its gorgeous environments. But as it stands, as a sequel, it fails to successfully deliver its simple message, ending on a note that feels pompous and ridiculously proud of itself even as it lands its last, resounding note (and dialog scene) with a hilarious lack of self-awareness.

    Yep.

So, yeah, the least i can do for you is to give a warning: TL;DR -> This game is not worth your time neither the money it asks for it.

    But let's be fair:

    The Good:
    - The world looks great!!
    - Music is SUPERB!!
    - The voice acting is top notch.
    - Gameplay is good. It's not perfect, but this is TLOU. Gameplay is meant to be kinda imperfect, but still reflects the atmosphere of the original.

    The Bad:
    - Plot Holes. Lots of them.
    - Character development. Is null at best. (Take this with a grain of salt, since i won't play this to the end). Feels rushed and regressed, compared to the original game.

    The Ugly:
    - The Story.... souless at best. You really don't care for the fate of the characters depicted, except for the two main characters from TLOU1. The writing compared with the original feels empty and void. It's like were written by a totally different author.

I'm not going to spoil anything here, but since the game is so story driven, the story should have been treated differently. It feels like it was rushed and poorly developed. In this case, you can have the best music, graphics, etc. but if the story fails, the entire experience fails (Reminded me to Metal Gear Solid 2, which happens to have a similar treatment of characters and plot). You can have the best graphics but if the main point is the story, the game fails. And in my case, i just called a day, uninstalled and quit it. Maybe later will look for the ending on youtube or something, but at this point, i'm done with it.

Not recommended. At all. (And if you have any disorder such as depression or anxiety, avoid this game at all costs). If you played TLOU1, stick with it, and stick with that ending.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. wow what a dumpster fire this game is. Exactly the opposite in story that I as a fan wanted. Lets kill joel in the first 2 hours. Lets utilize FALSE ADVERTISING to trick and steal money from people who were so excited for the continuation of ellie and Joel. I'm angry, at the trickery. I'm angry at the failure to gain depths beyond these paper thin filler characters. The retcon of abbie. Terrible terrible terrible. I do not care about graphics and game-play. graphics are fantastic. Game-play, meh. ever play the first? there you go. The accessibility options are phenomenal. The story is utter hot garbage. Not even close to being enjoyable. I don't need to have fun to play a game, but i damn sure need enjoyment from the product. This was a failure, and it is the last time i ever support naughty dog. Let me be clear, I DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANYONES GENDER OR SEXUALITY. Ellie became an idiot in her choices based around joel and a few others but never due to her sexuality or gender. Joel became a fool, because plot demanded it. Abbie is a terribly written, horribly implemented retcon that deserves every intentional death she is put through. I don't care about lev. Oh your trans. Ok. good for you. I still don't care about you, you are paper thin and getting on my nerves. NOT because you are trans, but because you are a terribly written character. This game could have used these elements in the story for a fascinating heart wrenching tale that was masterfully woven. Instead Neil Drukman took a big fat dump and titled it, the last of us part 2. This game is a zero for me, but i give it 2 points, 1 for accessibility, one for graphics. Everything else can ESOD. Let me also clarify, i always turn music off in games, and i cannot stand when it is force implemented. it robs a game of immersion IMO. That applies to me. The musical score is terrible, i do not enjoy it. That is due to my musical taste. That is not to say that it is not composed well or by a talented musician. I find it to also be hot garbage. Therefore let it be known, my review does not reflect it in score, i give it a complete pass over as unfavorable as it does not apply to my style of gaming. It aggravates and agitates me causing me to lose interest even further when forced. You may enjoy it. I do not.

TLDR: Neil Drukman has the tummy rumblies and shoots a steaming pile all over the fans of TLOU with a terribly written dumpster fire that is TLOU PART 2, and not because of gender politics or agenda, while it is there, that is not the reason this game is terrible, the writing is.

Two things that this game did well, the graphics and the voice acting. The character models and scenery is beautiful, and of course, the voice acting was very well directed.

As for the story, it's just bad. I believe 'The Last of Us' is about Joel and Ellie. It's clear Neil and Naughty Dog pushed both of them aside to make room for all these new characters, but at the end of the day it just doesn't tie in well nor do we get the same character development for the new characters as we did for Joel and Ellie in the first game. You're simply not going to feel the same attachment for any of these people the same way you did for Joel and Ellie.

Gameplay: It's The Last of Us 1 but you can jump, dodge attacks (time is slowed down when an enemy initiates an attack so it pretty much forces you to dodge before you can counter), and go prone. This gameplay design was already outdated when the first game came out back in 2013 as other games have simply done it better, and now it's even worse to the point where you get bored
    while playing the game.

It's incredibly disappointing to say the least.

I can babble on about how much I hate this game, but i don't have the energy to do so after playing that mess.

If you really want to know what happens, watch the cut-scenes on youtube. Triple AAA games nowadays are not worth $60 and this is one you should only pick up when it's on sale for $20.

Great graphics is all I can say that is positive, seriously. It's a shame to bc everyone in 2016 was stoked. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game in my opinion, has always been a story heavy game. The gameplay and multiplayer from the first game was great but so was the story. Last of Us 2 on the other hand doesn't do anything new. The Last of Us 2 feels like a launch title for a next gen console not a wholesome release. It just does little ingame cinematic/ animation things that add to the realism but also just feel like they are trying to show off the graphics, but at the end of the consoles life cycle. Why?

The animations and graphics do look great though so I'm giving it 2 points but everything else falls flat. Joel dying was the dumbest thing to do. At least let us discover why he lied in detail and what it did to him as a person that he knew he was conflicted because he was constantly lying to someone he loved. Instead we get dumb vague flashbacks 500 times to explain things we know from the first 15 mins... Then they retell the same story as the first game, having the same motive about how far would you go to save someone. It's just instead of save its replaced with avenge. Then you play as Abby for like 80% of the game. That's awful. I dont want to play as the "villain" I get what they were doing with the story but that doesnt mean it's not a waste. If you scrap Abbys backstory and crap and just have Ellie you have a game that lasts 30 mins. Then the more I thought about it the more I realised the game isnt even that good looking. You have had 7 years to make this thing and it barely surpasses the 1st game on an old gen consoles hardware. So I am dropping it to a 1 star and no I wont talk about the game being progressive because this political crap in games is upsetting me. I appericate everything they did. But holy crap this feels forced.

The writing is without a doubt the worst part of it, the pacing is all over the place and the new characters are introduced in a forced manner (let alone, the conversations/interactions seem just as forced).
To be honest, I kind of foresaw Joel's death. But killing him right off the bat within the first few hours into the game, just lets me as a fan down. A character's death is something that needs to be used properly, however using the main character for just shock value and giving a simple target (Abby), is not enough. (The overall negative experience is once more reinforced, since you play as said target for a good portion of the game). Of course, the ending doesn't even give the much anticipated catharsis. It makes me all the more angry seeing others who were even more hyped than me seeing this disappointing tragedy unfold itself. I seriously pity everyone who put so much effort into this game, into this franchise. The graphics and sound design are absolutely phenomenal. But a bad writer can ruin everything.

The scenery and visual fidelity of this game are the best the PS4 has ever seen but that's the only thing this game has going for. In my playthrough, I was expecting combat to evolve, more intricate puzzles, and a rich and amazing story about Joel and ellie, like in the first game. Well that didn't happen. We were given a generic revenge story with major plot holes, non relatable and bad written characters, Nd a horrible narrative in the grand scheme of the game. The game brings far left political narrative that don't belong in the entertainment industry, but somehow it did. This not only made the game toxic but also ruined the overall experience. The combat was dull and so easy that it didn't bring any fun or memorable action sequences that I would of loved to seen. But let's start with the good. The visuals are stunning. The lighting, the motion capture, the locations are all life like and excellent. While some characters or enemies feel generic, the main cast feels almost like real people.
This, however, amplifies the central problem: the writing. Without exception, the characters act stupidly. Every single character behaves like an idiot and doesn't act in a way I as player would want them to act. Most conflicts could be resolved if people just spoke to each other, and outside of some surface level notions of revenge and loyalty, there's very little going on with the characters in terms of what they stand for. This isn't Japanese style writing where every character represents an idea which inevitably places them on a trajectory towards a tragic conflict. There's no pathos or philosophy here. The characters remain bland and hollow, and worse yet, frustrating in their stupidity. For a story driven game, that's a death sentence. It makes the entire experience frustrating.
Add to that, that the actual action sequences are simplistic and repetitive, with very oddly timed inputs and the same "artificial" feel that plagued the uncharted series, and you end up with a game that you play one for the story and never again. There's not much of an actual game here. It feels more like a very impressive tech demo or an interactive movie. Your actions never affect the outcome of the story though, so the entire experience runs on rails, counter to the possibilities of the medium. If your choices affected the outcome of the story, then this would be a real winner. With a presentation as good as this, it's a huge missed opportunity. This never becomes the player's story.

I debated if I should give the game a 2 or a 3. The direction in some scenes is so good, the use of music so powerful that a 3 would well be warranted. But in the end I had to score this as a game, not a movie.

The first game was like poetry, with the sad reality humankind was facing in an apocalypse world. The second? Humans are despicable, revenge, revenge, reve...Oh wait, I change my mind, end of the game. . .
You see, there ways to tell a good story and make the players fell in love for the chracters, and sadly for ND they did that in the first one. So doing what they did it was obvious that a LOT of REAL FANS would get mad. In fact, it´s like they publish another franchise game, I would call, Adventures of Ellie and Joel in Walkin Dead dimension, because that´s the role problem here!
They did not use the Last of Us world and rules, they used the Walking Dead world and rules, why? Why ND choose to do that...?
    Let´s compare:

First game: character deads? Check, but in light ways, we know they died and the way showed was to absorve more in the sad and lonely world.
Second game: character deads? Check, in grusome way that not even makes sense compare to the previous mind concept he had once.

First game: Gay couple in one of the best chapters (Bill city), show in a delicated way, that makes no fan complain about it.
Second game: Sex scenes just to shock the viewers and players...

I think I made my point here. Doens´t feel the same franchise, not even the direction (maybe because is not?).
If I like to play something like Last of Us 2 I would look for some Walkin Dead stuff and not this franchise that make a lot of fans in a time we´re with numerous zombies games existed. And gain fans because of the style, the compeling story...

Graphics? Sure, is great, music too, gameplay, well didn´t change much, but I don´t mind that.

My bet´s still are that this game was called New Walking Dead game the critic´s from the players and fans where all high up´s, but this is Last of Us Naughty Dog, please understand your own creations before try to show some moral story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The purpose of a game, in any context, is to be enjoyed. People watch the Super Bowl to gather with friends and family in the expectation of an amazing, enthusiastic, snack-filled night. They play Chess, Go, Magic the Gathering, all in the hope to get better at the game and to have fun with their hobby, hopeful of experiencing new and pleasant situations, peers, and future friends. They dig out their SNES, their Genesis, or their PlayStation knowing they will be able to experience the nostalgic satisfaction and enjoyment they grew up with years ago. That is the purpose of a game, any game, to make you enjoy yourself and, if you are a direct participant, to strive to improve. The Last of Us Part II does none of this. It entices you with the hope of the same engaging story and characters of its predecessor, dangling the bait for you to draw ever, ever closer. Then, once you have let your guard down and invited this game to take over you for the night, week, month, however long you take, it CRUSHES your leg in the bear trap. It leaves you confused, hurt, angry, unsatisfied; feelings of betrayal swarm around you. But none of this is directed at the characters in the game, the world created, or even the story itself. After all, can we lay down the sins of the father upon his child? The creators of this game are the ones to blame. Lying to us in marketing and asking us to accept their very own, unlikeable, poorly fleshed out "New Generation" of characters as the heroes of this story. Our heroes our portrayed as the monsters, when we went through the whole first game, living with them and understanding the reasoning behind their actions. This game insists none of that matters. Not the characters, not their logic, not their motives, their relationships, their own moral dilemmas. The game paints it all as "bad" and delivers a child's perspective of pain and struggle, hurt and revenge, acceptance and reconciliation. A simple "hurting people is bad" message with nothing more than torture porn to sandwich it. Jesus Christ taught this message over two thousands years ago, but I believe I can safely assess that this game's way of delivering it won't last 1/400th of that time. In terms of the new genre, "movie games", The Last of Us Part II best falls under the category of a snuff film, and a poorly thought out one at that. Characters are brought in obtrusively from stage left, only to be quickly rushed away towards stage right, with little to no substantial weight, leaving the whole of the story far, far less meaningful than its individual parts. Characters' deaths and struggles and triumphs are meant to invoke reactions that NaughtyDog has neither earned, nor deserved, but heavily expects the player to give up for free. If you have read this far, you are well aware that I have given as much thought into expounding upon detail as NaughtyDog has given. For the most part, the game plays one to one with the 2013 original, and in those seven years and almost two console generations, the only thing new is more dazzlingly, yet vapid set pieces (though every game gets a few points from me if it includes snow) and the ability to mount up on a horse, as though your character is the modern day cowboy of the untamed West, which you are not. Zombies and their infectious spores are no longer the underlying villain of the world, which strikes as odd considering this is a zombie game. Stories with a force of nature as the villain usually excel when showing the human condition at its most vulnerable, yet most stubborn. A yin-yang dilemma between the hopelessness of the situation and the inability of man to just give up. When a secondary, human antagonist is brought into the mix it is best utilized when it juxtaposes nature's blunt force attack with an equally deadly (if properly written) cleverness. It shows that same stubbornness audiences root for, twisted and defiled into man's worse. It helps exalt the hero's victory over this immoral wickedness by showing that, though their base abilities may be equalized into a stalemate, good will always prevail over evil. Because that's the hope we have when we play games, watch movies, tell and retell stories. That we can always get back up and try again no matter how many times we fail or are defeated. The Last of Us Part II fails to instill this hope in its players, neither at the start of the game, nor by the end of it. We are simply told nothing we do will matter, no goal we set out for is meaningful, and, in the darkest hour, our lives and the will to preserve them are in vain. Though this is not the truth, NaughtyDog deems it fit that we believe this. The first game, upheld as a masterpiece almost a decade later, rings just a slight bit more hollow after experiencing its successor. Expand

Besides the terrible treatment of the characters we came to love, the story itself is a mess and feels unbelievable contrived to get you to really feel bad for all the **** they force you to do. The gameplay has barely changed in 7 years and I really expected something "next gen" or an evolution at least. It feels tired. I am sure there are people out there who will love it for whatever reasons they want to justify, but frankly I can't recommend this one, especially if you were a huge fan of the characters in the first game and don't want a story that wants to rub your face in contrivances. I would love to have seen what someone like Amy Hennig could have come up with, but it appears Naughty Dog is well past their glory days. Just such a disappointment. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Stellar graphics make an amazing game better.

Amazing graphics don't make a bad game good.

The Last of Us introduces you to great, yet broken characters that grow and evolve as the game progresses, there is complexity and thought provoking ideals gracefully presented to the player. It emerges you in a dark, post apocalyptic bleak world. But some friendly banter and reminiscence of times gone brings some relief, sometimes comedic, sometimes sad relief from the world. It's was this small nuance in character development that made Sam and Henry unforgettable and their deaths that much more painful

The Last of Us part II forgoes all that and decides to just take characters and change their mindset on a whim in order to force a standard run of the mill violent vengence plot on the player. The story is full of holes and apparently a whole lot happened in 4 years. PSP's make a comeback in 2038. I'm sorry but the first game set you up to believe the world had gone to absolute crap. Part II shows us nature reclaiming cities, yet I'm supposed to believe that a 25+year old PSP survived, still holds a charge longer than 10mins and the UMD disc's haven't corroded? When did society begin making clothes? there are many inconsistencies that break the game out of the setting it's placed in. But hey it all LOOKS good.

Back to the story, it plays out sort of like Kill Bill, only by the end of the movie she lets Bill go instead of giving him the the 5 point exploding heart treatment. Over and over again Ellie pays the price for vengeance only to in the end let her target go for no reason, in fact it portrays the direction they took her character. So at the end of the game your left empty and alone without event the satisfaction of revenge.
In fact if you want a good violent revenge story go watch the Kill Bill movies and if you want a revenge plot done better in a game format look to Tales of Berseria.

Now this alone doesn't subject it to a ZERO score. However the game was marketed and early reviewers were strictly forbidden to talk about key points to mislead the public. The entire premise was to paint this light that the player would be returning to the world and the story would once again revolve around Ellie and Joel. This kind of bait and switch tactics, combined with the active DMCA striking and the mentality that you either kiss ND's (both Naughty Dog and Neil Druckman) ass and call the game amazing 10/10 or your "Toxic" or a "Incel" drops its below average score of 4 to a 2. Just because I don't think the game is amazing doesn't mean I'm Toxic. They are free to say its "The most ambitious game" and I'm free to disagree with that, it doesn't mean either party is being Toxic. People can agree to disagree but ND doesn't want to be civil about it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Compared to the first game, this one is a massive step backwards. The last of us gradually developed a beautiful relationship between Joel and Ellie. Neither trusted quickly but eventually they completely relied on each other and Joel did everything to save Ellie.

This game makes the first one meaningless. They never meet in "current time" before Joel dies and the revenge plot that the happens is petty and not even well written.

Between Joel's death, Ellie not going through with killing Abbie and losing her fingers in the process (when Abbie bites them off), what is the point of this game. What is the message? You can't argue that the game's graphics are stunning, but all ND games are. It's expected. But graphics do not make a good game. On top of that, the game play hasn't progressed and felt old and clunky.

Overall I was not impressed. maybe the game was hyped up too much and I expected more. Either way, I was left with a massive feeling of being let down.

First time was horrible, the story was all over the place, no character development and some of the most stupid decisions I've ever seen characters make. Abby is incredibly disgusting and ND failed to make me empathize with her. Second playthrough I tried to get some value out of gameplay but the AI was as bad as the first one and broke my immersion so many times. By the time I got to Abby's part, I just uninstalled. I'm done with Naughty Dog at this point. Hope their next game is better, but I'm certainly not buying it. Screw all "professional critics" by the way. Absolutely disgusting media manipulation. Expand

Also, the graphics are absolutely stunning and clearly there were top tier artists working on the project. The music is also wonderful at times... albeit a bit underwhelming overall and there's definitely room for improvement.

But graphics, decent gameplay, and nice music alone can't justify a score of between 95-100 for a game that is driven almost wholly by its story, which makes me question the veracity of the score given to this game by "professional critics."

As a game developer who specializes in story writing... let me just say that TLOU2 is an insult to video game writers and story games in general. The story of The Last Of Us Part 2 is centered around both tragedy and revenge... with very little else to justify the direction or make it feel like a worthwhile journey.

Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that beloved characters should not experience such a gruesome fate unless there's a valid reason or justification... otherwise "shock factor" veers into "edge factor" and becomes a meaningless trope. This is a shocking contrast to TLOU Part 1, when the characters were multifaceted, nuanced, and driven by a deep sense of purpose.

One can only wonder if the writers of this game grew to resent their very own characters... as they all seem to have grown short sighted, one dimensional, and soulless. This leads to a boring, depressing journey filled with an overtly dark narrative, bad thrills, and using "shock factor" as a cheap replacement for deep story. Sure, play The Last Of Us 2... if you want to be depressed... or if perhaps you don't care about story in a story-driven game and you're just in it for the gameplay. As I said, overall it's not a bad game... but it's a very bad story, and considering this is a *story game,* I can't justify a rating higher than 2 / 10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Never thought I had to actually join in on the kicking but seriously **** this game. Last of us 2 took everything that made Last of Us good and pissed all over it.

Let me get this out of the way and say I would not have cared if there was politics in the game but if the politic is the only strength this game has then there is something wrong with it. Make a good game and strong memorable character first then add on to the politic. At that point, I would be too invested in the story and character to quit because of some cheap politic added into the game.

Last of Us 1 is amazing for its story and character. This game is trying to sell not with the merit of the game itself. The story went from interesting (1) to gutted (2) and the game seems to try to sell this game more importantly as a progressive political game than, you know, an actual Last of Us game. All the character and built up from the first game was unceremoniously killed off along with Joe, the original character and the story turn into a generic revenge story.

If you expect anything interesting with its story or character then do not buy this. The game is selling on its political message not its quality as a game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Before anyone complains that many people are disappointed with the game because of the LGBTQ+ themes, please get that out of your head. The fact that many characters are LGBT+ has nothing to do with how whack the plot is. However I do feel that the game poorly represents the LGBT+ community in many ways. But that's not the point.

To describe the plot as it is without spoiling it for those who still want to look into it -- Just look it up on YouTube, don't spend $60 --, the game does a very poor job at presenting a revenge story as it should be. The choices you are forced to make leave you feeling like crap. Death is fine and many games are about killing, but the fact that Ellie goes through the entire game in search of revenge only to not to finish it (take that as you will), makes every other death in this game feel like useless. It makes you feel empty.

It completely changes Joel and Tommy. No spoilers to their fates (though I feel you may already know), but keep in mind that they have been surviving in such a horrible world for many years. Now imagine having all this training of trusting no one and being careful only to have all of that down the drain.

This game does no justice to its predecessor. Everything about this game (minus the gameplay) makes it seem like this game isn't even about what it was originally. It's bad. You ever seen GoT? The ending to this game makes GoT's ending seem like a masterpiece. The plot becomes linear, then diverts from what it was. I'm serious, the game goes in depth about a character's past and it truly doesn't help the plot. All it does is shove the idea this into your face for some hours: "This character has a different sexuality! Believe it!" and then it doesn't help the plot one bit. Not only does it poorly represent the LGBT community, it really feels like a political idea rather than the game it should've been.

All in all, the only good things about this game would be the mechanics, the gameplay, and graphics. The revenge story ended horribly and made everything else that happened in the game feel pointless. The ending to this game feels like what you'd get for making horrible choices in games that have a morale system implemented. You will feel disappointed within the first 2 hours. The rest will feel whack. Everything about what it tries to represent is so bad at doing so. Joel would disappointed in Ellie. We all are. If you played the first game, you will understand that everything about this makes everything else pointless. It's disappointing and you will regret spending $60 on a game with a horrible plot. Sure, the graphics are nice, but not point in playing a game that feels good but has depressingly bad story. You'll feel miserable at every twist. The ending is depressing. Everything you do in this game goes to waste in the end.

Don't buy this game. It's not even worth the $20 price tag it'll have in the near future.
