If you love first last of us, do not play it, i am serious DO NOT play it! The storyline is awful and cliched.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yes this would be my first review and I’m not a bot. I was a huge last of us fan when the game came out. The fist game had a great set up for a sequel unfortunately this wasn’t the case for this game. I’ll first start off with all positives of the game you can’t say that the game has a terrible visual and scenery. This game right now has the best scenery and graphics on the PS4. The attention to detail is extraordinary. The gameplay is also solid as they kept the same mechanics from the 1st game and more of visual affect, such as when you can see your character upgrading your weapons. Now to the story where game takes a turn and the thing the last of us revolves on. The theme of this game is revenge and it’s represented well, but the story takes a turn. You play as the new character named Abby a muscular blonde woman. She wants to get revenge on Joel since he killed her father who was apart of Ellie’s operation in the End of the first game. Abby in the early part of the game ambushed Joel and Tommy after helping her out. I don’t agree on how they approach his death in such a horrific way by Abby going to town on his with a club. Yes Joel has done some horrible things as we know for the first game for his own well being. But as we were playing Joel we didn’t care that he did dose things since we wanted Joel to go threw dose things. The next part the game is you are playing as Ellie and trying to find were Abby is and trying to kill her for half of the game. Then for the next 10 hours you play as Abby and I guess the dev thought that we going to sympathize with Abby by giving us flash back to her life but I never really do. As you play as Abby you meet lev and her sister and trying to get medical supplies to amputate her arm. But as was playing I didn’t understand why are doing and what was the point of the goal. At the very end Ellie try’s to get revenge on Abby after falling the first time. Abby is strung up a poll skinny and weak, finnaly there is a last battle with Ellie and Abby where Ellie has the upper hand and nearly drowns Abby but doesn’t go threw with it. This made mad since there was no point of doing this if not going threw with it I was and as many gamers where finally happy to see that we were going to reconciliation for the actions of what Abby did but we don’t. The devs are trying to make us do decisions that we don’t to do and puts in political points to make us follow. This game was a gem and now it’s Cheaks Expand

Game looks and plays amazing. Any fan of the first game is in for an emotional onslaught. Also paints a vivid picture for the "human condition" and makes you question your own morality and think of who the actual "good guys" are in a scenario. I'm beyond impressed. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Beautiful game. Fantastic graphics, music and voice acting. HOWEVER
The story was NOT good. The pacing was all over the place and a lot of the time situations and emotions felt awkward and forced. For example, there is repetitive focus on pregnant ladies (one of which was heavily pregnant and would not have been able to do half of the stuff they were doing). Once or twice would have been fine, but they put three separate cases into the story to try to force emotion.
There was also way too much focus on the new protagonist of Abby. I understand why the creators wanted us to sympathise with her, but after a main character's death was shoehorned in for shock value, I had no care for her or her colleagues. I would maybe have cut down the gameplay with her to 4 hours as it just became dull and repetitive when I was already lacking an incentive to care about her side of the story.
By the end of the game I just felt empty and disappointed. Not in the lack of resolution but in the way they had taken what had been so fantastic about the original game- the characterisation and narrative- and completely forgotten all about it. I found it extremely hard to finish the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Stellar graphics make an amazing game better.

Amazing graphics don't make a bad game good.

The Last of Us introduces you to great, yet broken characters that grow and evolve as the game progresses, there is complexity and thought provoking ideals gracefully presented to the player. It emerges you in a dark, post apocalyptic bleak world. But some friendly banter and reminiscence of times gone brings some relief, sometimes comedic, sometimes sad relief from the world. It's was this small nuance in character development that made Sam and Henry unforgettable and their deaths that much more painful

The Last of Us part II forgoes all that and decides to just take characters and change their mindset on a whim in order to force a standard run of the mill violent vengence plot on the player. The story is full of holes and apparently a whole lot happened in 4 years. PSP's make a comeback in 2038. I'm sorry but the first game set you up to believe the world had gone to absolute crap. Part II shows us nature reclaiming cities, yet I'm supposed to believe that a 25+year old PSP survived, still holds a charge longer than 10mins and the UMD disc's haven't corroded? When did society begin making clothes? there are many inconsistencies that break the game out of the setting it's placed in. But hey it all LOOKS good.

Back to the story, it plays out sort of like Kill Bill, only by the end of the movie she lets Bill go instead of giving him the the 5 point exploding heart treatment. Over and over again Ellie pays the price for vengeance only to in the end let her target go for no reason, in fact it portrays the direction they took her character. So at the end of the game your left empty and alone without event the satisfaction of revenge.
In fact if you want a good violent revenge story go watch the Kill Bill movies and if you want a revenge plot done better in a game format look to Tales of Berseria.

Now this alone doesn't subject it to a ZERO score. However the game was marketed and early reviewers were strictly forbidden to talk about key points to mislead the public. The entire premise was to paint this light that the player would be returning to the world and the story would once again revolve around Ellie and Joel. This kind of bait and switch tactics, combined with the active DMCA striking and the mentality that you either kiss ND's (both Naughty Dog and Neil Druckman) ass and call the game amazing 10/10 or your "Toxic" or a "Incel" drops its below average score of 4 to a 2. Just because I don't think the game is amazing doesn't mean I'm Toxic. They are free to say its "The most ambitious game" and I'm free to disagree with that, it doesn't mean either party is being Toxic. People can agree to disagree but ND doesn't want to be civil about it.

Beautiful graphics, good music, no real change in controls or game play but that's not necessarily a bad thing but I was hoping for something more. I enjoy a good revenge story but this ain't it chief. Story was drawn out way too long and relied on flashbacks for feel good moments to cover up Joel's crappy death and the fact they made Joel and Tommy looked like idiots to kick start the revenge plot. Other than those flashbacks, the game is practically devoid of any lighthearted moments like that were in the first game.

The new cast of characters are all wonderful in their own ways. Each of them brought their own personalities and struggles to the table. The trans representation was done tastefully, respectfully and the character is a pretty rad kiddo. No, Abby is not trans. Assuming she’s trans based off of her muscular physique is transphobic. Half of the spoilers you heard from people are fake. There are no multiple endings. Only one of the big spoilers some of you probably heard is true. The gameplay is a fantastic upgrade from the first game. Unique weapons, additional crafting, upgrades, and dynamic open ended gameplay keeps the game fresh and not as on-rails and repetitive as the first game. No floating pallets to push around, so we’re good. The ending is very, very good. It left me feeling remorseful but understanding of everyone involved. By the end, the message on the cycle of violence, the lasting effects of trauma and suffering were delivered on a deep and effectual level. the game is visually stunning, barring a few visual hiccups. The game only crashed once on me, on PS4 Pro. The action is gruesome, fluid and satisfying. Melee combat is no longer two dimensional. Gunplay has this quasi-realistic, gritty and lethal feel. There are segments of the game that give a tense survival horror feel. The second hospital visit is terrifying. I highly recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of the first game. Scoring: Visuals: Stunning. 9.5/10

    Gameplay: good fun. 8/10

Story: Brilliant. 9.5/10 Soundtrack: great, but not as memorable as the first game 8/10 Writing: this is a subcategory of Story. The writing takes awhile to sink in but when it clicks together it’s perfect. 8/10

Characters/Acting: you will meet a lot of people that you will grow to like, and some will die and it’ll be heartbreaking. 9/10 Replay Value: There’s a lot of collectibles, a New Game+ option and you can always replay to play a different style, but honestly the game is so long and with only one ending I don’t see myself replaying it. For me, it’s a 6/10 for replay value. Overall Score: 9.5/10. The Last of Us 2 tells a story of grief, suffering and trauma. It’s not a happy story and it’s definitely not for everyone’s taste. But for fans of the first game, I recommend picking it up and giving it a chance. This is a worthwhile experience. Unforgettable.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall, most of the game play brought nostalgia and felt similar to the first game. The graphics are great and the music/character graphics is spot-on through my newbie gamer lens.

However, the story is hard to keep playing all the way until the finale of the game; mostly because the farther you go, the bleaker the outcome looks. Joel's death was hard for every fan, but only the beginning of a series of depressing events that made this game hard to stomach.

Disclaimer: I did not pick up this sequel to an apocalyptic-themed game and expect there to only be rainbows and butterflies in Ellie's and Joel's relationship. The ending of The Last of Us gave proof to expect a tense sequel when Joel lies and leaves a hard truth (that he killed some fireflies and destroyed the chance for a cure) that would need to be addressed in Ellie's and Joel's relationship.
Despite Joel's death hurting us all, Ellie is left alone in the end, Tommy is crippled and taking a break from Maria, Dina and JJ are nowhere to be found, and you wonder if there was any point in going through all that trauma just to have an ending where NO ONE is satisfied or at least relatively in one piece (losing fingers and PTSD are real here).

In the end, my two cents from playing this game is I didn't need to 60 dollars to live through my favorite game characters never-ending trauma, I could have just looked at the local news or continued to see all the trauma the world offers naturally. The only reason I picked up this game despite the chance of losing my favorite characters was because the end might have come out and given the viewers hope. While Naughty Dog attempted to do this, it fell short for me and I only felt empty and disappointed on the inside.

    Thanks, Naughty Dog.

I liked certain aspects of this story but majority of it made me fume in anger. So in simple terms the rating I give here is a representation of how sometimes a good story told badly can’t achieve anything good Expand

I found TLOU2's narrative to be the most exhilarating interactive storytelling I've experienced. A layered, morally confounding examination of the dangers of labeling people/groups as evil without full context, told through the guise of a revenge tale. Compelling characters, creative medium-specific storytelling, top notch presentation, passable gameplay with generally satisfying stealth and combat, and unfortunately the usual AAA "oh no the door is locked" padding that could certainly have been tightened up.

I saw the first game as a brutal examination of morally gray actions and consequences, not once painting the protagonist as a hero or villain. I felt that the second ran with those ideas even more so. It builds upon the first game's themes in risky, powerful ways, but never upends the player's role in sorting through complex moral conundrum's for themselves.

The last of us 2 es un juego muy extraño, se aventura por unos lugares muy ambiguos y arriesgados, y provoca unas emociones contradictorias e incómodas. This is something you have to experience yourself, don't just listen to all the hate for the story online. Other than the story, the gameplay is absolutely fantastic, each encounter feeling different than the last, and each being the most intense and heart pounding moments I've ever experienced. Even if you don't like the story, the gameplay itself is worth it. Not to mention this is by far the most beautiful game I've ever played, with the best character and facial animations I've ever seen. The game is packed to the brim with the tiniest of details that will make you drop your jaw to the floor. Sometimes I would spend 20minutes in just one room admiring every little detail. Expand

I'm not saying that you don't have to play this game, but you might want to get a refund after doing it. In this aspect TLOU2 Is pretty comparable to Warcraft III: Reforged in terms of how "well" it does his job at giving us hopes and dreams just to be crushed by unfinished works and promises that couldn't be delivered. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before I start my problems with the story is not that its split its just how its split and who you play as in games such as hotline miami, hotline miami 2, and halo 2 to name a few off the top of my head along with others the split character story telling is made so well that it actually makes the games better giving the game (since talking about the story) a more interesting narative, more character depth, and more diversion in levels to from very slight to drastic while still being fun, the last of us part 2 fails in 2 of these it does give more character depth but in the 10 hours with abby the character depth is weak and the character depth around her is worse so it may give good character depth but a bad character with more depth in a way is just a worse character now to my quick review from an average gaming consumer and last of us fan and until now naughty dog fan (i like their games but their next project will need to revive my faith) .the story was wack, with setup in the first hour or 2 it could of been executed better but then they took a fat dump on it, playing as ellie was good and fun story was still alright then even if not as solid as the first game but then playing as abbie was no fun at all because the character is not likable and the flashbacks didnt change what I thought about the character and it felt like abby was the main character, without Santa Barbra you definitely play as abbie more and playing as abbie was boring and felt like a develoution from playing as ellie, and the ending was just bad because abby gets everything and ellie loses everything, the game starts out with an eye for an eye type story but then turns into an eye for nothing and actually more like an eye for another one of my eyes becuase abby gets everything she wants while losing a couple friends while ellie loses everything along with friends, even some of her fingers so she can no longer play the guitar which is the last thing she has left from joel, the reason i said that was not to spoil but to prove abby was the main character of the game the ending was no where near satisfying, playing as abby was not fun at all except for certain places, the sex scene was put in the game for no reason, characters would do actions severely out of their character to make the story move forward, this game used sheer shock factor most of the time instead of emotion. They failed making most of the new characters especially abby and it would be hard for me to care less about the scar's the scar kids and what happened to them (war happens boo hoo) if what happened to them happened to jackson it would of been much more powerful but instead a random cult's town got burned down. The game could of been redeemable if it was executed better, didnt play as abby maybe played like joel or with joel like everyone wanted or if naughty dog wanted to kill him do it better and play as maybe tommy, the only flashback I enjoyed was the one where they tried to go to the music store the rest were boring and put in just to have joel in the game more or to attempt to humanize the WLF members which fails. Naughty dog lied to the fans in the trailers and they did it on purpose to not affect sales if people knew you were going to have to play as a random character that kills a fan favorite for half the game and fails at making her a character, if they advertised the game as having abby as the co main character I would not of bought the game because I wanted to play as ellie and go on HER adventure im not mad that she is a lesbain girl I would not of cared in the first game if joel was gay but I wanted to play as ellie becuase we as fans cared about her and now I have 2 emotions from this game. The fake out ending the game had before santa barbra did nothing but make me sad and bored during it and then hyped up for a bad ending that made it even more painful to let abby sail off into the sunset with a trasure chest full of our 60 bucks, also I was very mad that after the fake out ending you play as abby for about 10 more minuetes in that moment when I started playing as her again I felt like deleting the game because almost no one wants to play as abby. The worst thing naughty dog did was first make an evil character that takes pleasure in hurting and killing people and using cheap tricks for us to think that shes good and ellie is bad but then to play as her for 10 hours and in those 10 hours to brutally attack ellie a character we care about and then at the end of the game not give us the satisfaction of killing a character that not only hurt ellie a character we care about but hurt us she killed joel (a fan favorite), killed jessie (a new character that I was starting to like while playing as ellie and also allowed ellie to be a parent as a lesbian becuase adoptions are not easy in the apocolpsye), crippled tommy (a character that is nothing but nice to his friends and likeable), and beat diana's head in and attempted to slit her throat knowing she was Expand

All the visual, sound artists, etc. at Naughty Dog can be proud of themselves. Now for the Story where the biggest criticism lies. It starts of OK but then quickly deep dives with a stupid and absolutely coincidental character death for the sake of shock factor that will now drive a plot that goes absolutely nowhere while trying to deliver that 'revenge is bad' message just to completely fail at that too.

And while your depiction of the story can be up for debate and whether your desired outcome was achieved, the matter of the fact is that Sony and their marketing team have completely mislead players as they didn't show or allow any gameplay from the second half of the game where it straight up false off a cliff.

In short they make you play as a completely unlikable character and attempt to make you empathize with them in cheap ways that just don't work. It could have been done were the story was written by someone more capable.

In all the biggest reason to play this game is a failure and there is no replay value to be found here.

The motion capture was amazing. The voice actors were excellent. The artists that created the world were inspired. If you take all the story line out of the game it would be that 10/10!

I'm amazed by the art team that was dedicated to this project.
Hands down, the graphics are the most amazing aspect of this game.
The gameplay has significantly been improved and feels fluid and clean and most of all, FUN.

Now the reason I have to give this game a negative score.

    How DARE you Naughty Dog.
    How DARE you Neil Druckmann.

This bastardized story you gave us isn't even close to what people want out of a game.
And no, you don't HAVE to give people the story they want, nor should you be expected to deliver a product that you feel isn't right.
But how dare you take the story TLOU gave us, and then ruin it with this sequel.
Joel died. Fine, if that's what must happened to get the shock factor and emotional turmoil across to the player, you did what you had to do.
But to then turn around, and force the player to play as Abby?
To force the player to walk in their shoes in an attempt to gain sympathy points for this monster you created?
    It's disgusting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. They did Joel dirty in this game

    1) "They were actually going to make a cure"

One of the very first things 's says is in the game is extremely problematic. People justify their own actions. They choose to interpret events, especially uncertain events, in a way that is favorable to them. If you go to a prison, every single person will claim innocent. This is practically a fundamental truth.

There is no way to know for sure what the fireflies chance of finding a cure were. So it is something people are free to Interpret how they want. Here are two examples:

    (A) 0% chance of cure: is a hero who saved from dying a pointless death. The surgeon is a monster who was willing to sacrifice an innocent girl for a 1 in a million chance for a cure. has NO reason to hate .

    (B) 100% chance of cure: is a monster who robbed humanity of a cure. The surgeon is a hero who died trying to save humanity. has a reason to hate forever.

Which way do you think and would chose to interpret things? It makes sense for to believe "truth" B. Of course she would rather think of her father as a hero rather than a monster. Similarly, would believe "truth" A where he is a hero. He would never choose to believe in a Interpretation that would give a reason to hate him.

The beginning of the game should have been like this:

"It was a shot in the dark. One in the million chance for a cure. Everything I had seen suggested as much. The speed they decided to sacrifice the 's only immune. Not even trying to get 's approval. The incompetence I had seen across the country... I couldn't stand the idea of dying for nothing. So I killed them all."

    -----

However, Neil gave a lobotomy and had him say, "They were actually going to make a cure"

    2) the most important moment of part one is undone in part two.

At the end of first game, asks a question. lies. He doesn't tell the truth that will make her hate him.

In part two, the exact same scenario plays out again. asks about what really happened at the hospital. This time tells the "truth" and makes her hate him. There was nothing preventing him from giving a version of events that was favorable to him (0% chance of cure). This directly contradicts the end of the first game.

    -----

Neil gave a lobotomy and forced him to believe 's "truth". Neil then game him another lobotomy to force him to tell that "truth" to . In the end, hates for something that he himself told her. This is unbelievable.

They did dirty in this game.

The gameplay is an improvement from the first game which is a lot to say and some of the new mechanics (eg rope) are well es executed. I understand why the story might be divisive particularly with the shocking beginning that might upset fans of the first one but *spoiler alert* Joel’s adventure was complete and this was a story of what comes after. This game also teaches something important which is that in many situations there isn’t such thing as a good and bad character, it’s the circumstances that drive each to make decisions. The story is well constructed and it is more than a game. It is a life experience. I recommend it to everyone to buy and play, because it deserves to be played. For me, a great catch is that we can see good or evil in each of us, and that revenge can lead us to do bizarre things. Furthermore, it shows that there is no absolute truth. The game shows that the truth and the right depends on the point of view of those who lived and observed the game events. Both protagonists believe they are right of their reasons, and both believe that the other side is the bad side. Congratulations @naughty_dog_inc on the game. Looking forward to a part III Expand

This is right up there with the best games of this generation; I congratulate Naughty Dog for wowing me once again and eagerly await their next project.

I played many games. From Software did something to me that i never felt in any game! But this one is an exception. This is not a game, this is a great movie. All the people that are bashing this game a fake reviewers that read the leaked script.
If you play the game you know that this is a masterpiece! I literary went to the tv to punxh someone that angry i was at a character.

I can understand why people are upset. The story is not the one they wanted, but rather the one it had to be. Everyone is complaining about characters' choices, as a player. But they are good choices as themselves…
Maybe this game is not as good as the first one, maybe it is. I truly think we need time to process the game to know. But it still is a very good game with incredible audio,

The bravest story I have ever seen in a game. Absolutely unexpected. Thank god I haven't seen any spoilers. One of the best game of this generation, no question. Thank you again Naughty Dog

Because the game ruins everything you loved about the first game. Although I will not spoil the plot for those that still wish to play it, I invite you to check out the spoilers and not pay $60 to a company that actively hates it's fan base and cannot write a good story. There was so much potential here, but they seem to be more interested in making the fans hate the characters in the first game and using heavy handed manipulation tactics to do so. The first game was so well written, but this game uses every cheap trick in the book to get it's message across. And no matter what anyone tells you, almost no one is upset by the use of LGBT characters, Ellie's DLC for the first game is where we found out she was gay and everyone still loved her, and everyone still loves her. Abby is only hated because she's a flat character with no personality and commits one of the most disgusting acts of cowardly violence in video game history and they expect you to empathize with her because "she's human" Everyone is human, I think Naughty Dog doesn't give their fan base enough credit for their intelligence. I find it hard to believe any of the critical reviewers who called this a 10/10 didn't receive some sort of compensation for their scores. Truly disgusting and horribly written story. Do not purchase if you enjoyed the first game. Changed the score to 3 because Metacritic wouldn't allow me to give it a 1, but trust me it's a 1. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is supreme in details, gameplay was amazing, I love play with Ellie, the gore scenes, using weapons and its improvements was nice, the cruelty of that world is amazing, the zone of infected humans are scary and awesome, I don't like play with Abby but I admit that scenes and zones was gorgeous and powerful, kill bosses with flamethrower was funny.

The IA need better perfomance, I played in the hard difficulty, tons of enemies are ALWAYS behind of you, and is easy kill they, is so easy, needs improve better perfomance,

The history have some incongruousness but the message is powerful, the revenge destroys you, Neil Druckmann catch the scene and the essence , but play with Abby was horrible and nice at the same time.

    1- Gameplay 10/10
    2-History 6/10
    3-Graphics 10/10
    4- IA 7/10
    5-Accessibility 10/10

The game makers have no interest in telling a story sincerely but force cramming their own values to audience without mercy.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
