This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ok let’s do this, this game is certainly not a 10/10 but is definitely not a 0 or 4
They improved a lot in the gameplay making it feel more organic and fun and that combined with the amazing graphics make for a pretty fun game at surface level but people are not mad at this but at the story History: Yes I hated how they killed Joel, I wasn’t spoiled so the shock was real I really wanted to kill Abby I really wanted to kill her friends and Ellie wants it too so I’m in for the ride and then we start playing as Abby, I was mad at that moment I didn’t understand and then they show her life and how’s herself is like Ellie a girl that wanted revenge against the guy that killed her father, the exact same thing that Ellie wants, we can all agree that Abby is a monsters, but she start to rebuild herself as human again helping those scars kids, and she herself become someone of a Joel for lev, and if Abby is a monster for killing Joel what would have make out of Ellie to kill Abby? A monster plane and simple, as Arthur Morgan sayed revenge is a fools game... But that doesn’t mean that the game is perfect something else that I didn’t like about playing as Abby at the beginning wasn’t just the fact that I was angry at her but also that we start all over again with just a gun and a rifle and playing as Abby doesn’t ad things to the gameplay also I think that Abby backstory gets a little bit to longer and we even start to forgot about the Ellie half so I really think that this could have been done better but still is a pretty **** good game

Finished the game in 25 hours on the medium setting. Technically the games amazing, can't fault the graphics, sound, or mo-cap. Story the game had a lot to live up too, and fell at a couple hurdles. If you don't like dark and violent stuff give it a miss because those are turned to 11. The game handles some topics very well and nothing feels hamfisted or forced. Not perfect but still worth a play.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I finished the game about 5 minutes ago and I'm having very complicated feelings. The developers worked really hard to make the game and the graphics are really beautiful. Ellie's story, except the ending, made sense to me. However, I really dislike the fact that I had to play Abby's story for so many hours. Abby killed Joel without mercy, I'm having trouble understanding why Ellie spared her life at the end. I feel bad for the developers. To the story writers: if you kill Joel to move the story forward, at least let us have the revenge moment. Joel killed everyone to save his girl, and we just get to watch Abby get away? Whoever wrote the story, you should find another job. And yeah, you did hurt my feelings as a tlou fan.

You won't believe how many times I killed Abby in the game. I literally did it 20+ time when Abby was in the theater fight Ellie. I should have left the game by then if I knew this ending was gonna be this.

I told everyone this game was amazing. Now I have changed my mind. What a terrible ending. Ruined the whole fukin game.

First off I am seeing a lot of comments saying this gameplay is stale in outdated but I heavily disagree. I think people have a lot of selection bias when remembering the first one. This combat has so many new small features making it feel fresh, there are also no annoying ladders and the level design is so heavily improved upon. Level design is a huge part of the gameplay for this series and it is so fine-tuned it's near-perfect here, Naughty Dog crafts such a detailed world giving glimpses of the past survivor's lives just by traversing it. The layouts of each level play out is so much better than the original as the player has so many unique ways to approach each encounter. Next is the story. This story just like the original purposely makes you feel uncomfortable at some points but it dials it to the extreme this time. I saw a review that complained "By the end of the game I was so numb to violence nothing shocked me anymore" Naughtydog does this on purpose as they really want players to be immersed and feel how these characters emotionally feel. This game's narrative is heavily reliant on the realism and characters making personal yet realistic choices and IMO you lose a huge part of the story if you don't put yourself in their shoes by playing the game. Almost every negative review here is within the first day this game came out. My total gameplay time was 25.5 hours. 99% of these negative reviews are not even possible. Most of this hate is coming from people who don't have the full context of the story. There is a reason this game is much longer than the original and an hour worth of cutscenes alone won't tell the full story. I highly recommend playing the game yourself and not looking at the game through spoilers! I found it a great experience and I hope others will enjoy it as much as I did. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game in my opinion has excellent story telling. I love this game. This story takes place after the events of the first game, 5 years later. Ellie and Joel have settled in Jackson, and live in a thriving community Ellie has found herself a love interest, Dina. While on patrol, Ellie and Dina run into Jesse, a new
guy. After hearing Joel and Tommy have not came back, Ellie goes to find them. We also play through the villains perspective, and shes looking for someone. After playing as her, you get saved by Joel and Tommy. I'll just get to the point. Abby, the villain, kills Joel. Ellie witnesses this while pinned down. This causes severe trauma to her, and she becomes depressed. Its sad, deep, and emotional. Now I think this makes sense. Joel is Ellies beloved friend, or father figure. And it causes her to take action and revenge. She hunts down every last one of them. You see her blinded by hate, her actions have consequences. She feels those consequences. You then see Abby's point of view. You see she has been with all the people you killed, has been friends with them. And you killed them all. Even her dog. Abby meets two scars, helps them, and becomes more of a normal person, a person with feeling's. We also learn Joel killed her dad, the doctor in part 1. That's why she kills him, she's blinded by her hate two, like Ellie. By the time Abby's story finishes, shes a human with emotions. She finds out what you did, and seeks revenge. You go to find Ellie, and you succeed. Abby kills jesse, and takes Tommy hostage. You are forced to fight Ellie, and it becomes a boss fight. You dont want to, but at this point you understand Abby. You beat the crap out of them and then, Abby spares them. You then flash forward, Ellie and Dina live a good life now. They have a kid, (Dina was pregnant with Jesse's kid). They live happily. But Ellie has PTSD from Joel's death. She can't stop remembering it, and she needs to finish it. She hunts Abby down one last time, and Abby gets kidnapped by Rattlers, a new group. So Ellie gets through and finds her, in santa barbara, tied to a pole on a beach. Shes weak, and you let her go. But Ellie wants to fight. Abby doesnt. Ellie threatens her by threatening to kill Lev, the kid. They brawl, epic and awesome brawl. And at the end, Ellies about to drown her, but doesn't do it. She remembers Joel. She CRIES, cries, and says to go. Letting Abby live with Lev. She comes back, Dina is gone. She left with the kid. Ellie tries to play the song Joel sang to her. But now missing two fingers. She cant play the guitar. She leaves it behind, and walks off.
Thats it, credits roll. The game tells a story of hate, revenge, and the consequences of that hate, and revenge. Abby killed joel because he ruined humanity's chance, and killed her father. But in th end Abby has it worse. Ellie killed everyone, and Abby is mad. Its understandable, because you see the journey she has. The ending shows Ellie coming to forgive Joel, and she can't bring herself to kill Abby. The cycle of revenge would just continue, and nothing would be solved. She knows joel is gone,
hes not coming back. Her not being able to play the guitar, and joels song, is her moving on past Joel. The Ellie we know is gone, and that would've worsened if she killed Abby. It makes you feel everything the game has made you do. And the question is, what would you do? What is the point when you know it went bring him back? Thats the brilliance of it. That's why I love The Last of Us Part 2.

I almost stopped playing when the game let you play Abby. I just don't care about her or what she has been through. What is worse is the ending. I’ll start of by saying TLOU 2 is a technical marvel. From its great level design and graphics to its improved combat system. That being said what you are probably hearing about the story being lackluster I have found to be true and generally I agree with that sentiment. The first act of the game is relatively strong. We see our first divisive plot point here and while I wasn’t happy when the initial plot event happened I understood that it fit the world in which the game is based. The first act also does a good job of introducing new characters and getting us to care about them. After that though the story takes a huge risk and while I commend naughty dog for trying something different, it doesn’t work for me and actually ruins the story for me as well as the replay ability of the game. The player is forced into a parallel plot line for the entire second half of the game which takes away from the potency and emotional drive of the first act. At this point in the game we also start to see some serious pacing issues that hinder the game even more. When we finally reach what we think is the conclusion we are thrown into another chapter of the game which proves to be pointless and does nothing but makes you further question what naughty dog was thinking with their writing. By the time you reach the actual finale you have likely been ready for the game to be over for several hours. The ending is dry and doesn’t resolve much of anything and leaves you wishing they had never made a direct sequel following Joel and Ellie’s story. Unfortunately this isn’t a worthy sequel to tlou. It can be good as a stand alone experience but most will likely be upset with the path chosen by ND here. I would give it 6/10. Expand

So I had hopes the narrative wasn’t that bad after hearing everything, I did stay as spoiler free as I could until I finished the game, but wtf naught dog. Killing the main character from the previous game to make a revenge story was a good idea, however the execution was hot garbage. We go through all the work to take revenge as Ellie to then play as Abby the villain to make us see her side and, I’m assuming, make us feel for her. Which in someways it did for me, but then you make us continue to play as Abby when we confront Ellie forcing us to beat a beloved character which was a BOLD decision that backfired immensely with everyone’s feedback being the clear example that it was a garbage decision. Everything up to that point was, in my opinion, still leading up to be a fantastic game. But the decision, again, to make us fight Ellie and win, is when you lost me. Have you had a switch back to playing Aly when we got to that confrontation making us beat Abby, I would’ve been fine with rest Love it. If you want to still kill Jesse do it, mortality wound Tommy or kill him I wouldn’t of cared as long as we got to kill Abby. Heck you could’ve even killed off Lev as they were leaving the island so you wouldn’t of had to involve him at that point. But it felt like you wanted to drag on the story from that confrontation which is a load of BS in my opinion. You should’ve ended it at that final confrontation and ended peacefully with Ellie and Dina at the farm raising JJ. That could have been at the perfect finish for this game but you squandered it. Do you let Abby win by making us beat Ellie. You then make us play as Ellie again to go and kill Abby which when we get that chance we let her go, then for more insult to injury when we get back to the farm Dina is gone and we don’t even know if Ellie finds Fina and they potentially get back together raising JJ, you just end it there. Honestly, I think if you chose to ha e had Lev died while being strung up on the beach with Abby thus giving Ellie essentially a mercy killing but still a revenge killing would have been better then what you decided. But instead you choose to make us go through all that to forgive Abby through PTSD on Ellies side and when we get back to the farm we find out Ellie has basically lost she loved even her ability to play the guitar correctly which is minor I know but still. I don’t even wanna play new game+ because there’s no satisfaction at the end. It just sucks because it feels like you had a very great story building up to the moment the Ellie and Abby confrontation happens, but when it does it seems you just took a dump on the story. The game itself is beautiful I appreciate the gameplay and how it is a even though it’s very repetitive, it just sucks that when you get that climax it feels like you’re falling down Mount Everest with no chance of stopping until you hit the bottom. I doubt it will even happen but I feel like you need to pull a BioWare and fix the ending like they did for Mass Effect 3 even if it’s just an alternate ending like choosing to play as either Abby or Ellie at the climax. Or just don’t make us play as Abby, the villain, and let us play as Ellie and beat Abby.

The gameplay is one of the best games i ever seen, the graphic amazing and the sound track was great but that doesn't change the fact that the storyline is a complete failure to me it was trash. The way they killed joel it was disrespectful he deserved better there is no Last of Us without Joel or Ellie they made him look stupid Joel in the first place he will never put himself in that position to be capture like that and to give Abby some important information about who he was and where they live. The story doesn't make sense the plot doesn't make sense throughout the game your trying to get revenge for the death of joel but in the end you dont getting ellie end up losing everything so the game is unsatisfying. And the worst part about it is that they make you play as a Abby throughout the game yes you play as the person who killed joel. the game feels like they're forcing you to feel bad or has sympathy for Abby which it doesn't work. I really don't understand what was the message of the game in my opinion this game is a 4 out of 10 5 out of 10 at most. the fans deserve a more fulfilling story a more satisfying one we've been waiting seven years for this game and is what we get. I believe they have disrespected the fan base so so much they need to make this right for the fans. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A fair honest review from my opinion. Played on survival mode. Took 27hrs to finish. Took my time looking for everything the game had to offer.

Literally made this account to give the game some good press. I really dont see the problem people are having it's a really good game. Yes Joel dies and its rough to accept but to be honest it's nearly expected. Least they weren't afraid to kill off a main character. Even better that it was early cause I thought it fueled revenge mission even better. Was not expecting the twist at all were you would play as Abby for the second half of the game. You get a completely different perspective on the story. In her shoes I dont blame her and for what she done, just wasnt expecting a full side of the game based on her. Overall I thought her story was enjoyable and basically giving the chance to play as the villain while the stuff was happening that you did in the first half. Even though you start to like the character by the end of the story I still wanted Ellie to finish the job. The game should have give a choice to kill or let go like the previous game. There could have been a few instances were choices could have affected the story. Gameplay itself is excellent. The gun combat and stealth system is top notch. Can really feel every bullet, club, knife and explosion hit home. Some of the kill scenes are brutally violent I love it. The zombies are horrific as usual and fun to deal with. The introduction of dogs made human combat more interesting and definitely forced a full on gun fight on some occasions. The upgrade system was decent even for a story based game like this. Could have done with a few more open areas like they introduced early in the game. Most of the game is pretty linear but there are multiple ways to get the job done. Some of the areas are big enough and I really enjoyed the looting aspect and finding supplies. I played the game on survival mode but overall didnt have to much hassle for supplies. Always seemed to have enough of everything. By the end I had nearly all the guns upgraded and both characters nearly fully upgraded perk wise. I would play stealthy but there was a good few instances of straight up gun fights which were a nice change of pace. Really needs that grounded difficulty which hopefully comes out at some stage. Graphics are some of the best I've seen this generation. Just everything looks amazing. Sound and music design too absolutely top notch. Few scenes with headphones on were brilliant with the surround sound really gave a full fear factor in some scenes. Hospital comes to mind with Abby.

Overall for me I really enjoyed the game. The gameplay and graphics are some of the best of this generation. Naughty Dog definitely took some risks story wise that I would say almost payed off. I would have like to have more choices in the decisions of the story. Other than that I think the twists are great and I got a few shocks regarding some of stuff that happens. There could have been more backstory to the likes of Abby and more interactions with Joel and Ellie. I see a lot user reviews bombing the games story but I think they were expecting something different were everyone survived. Naughty Dog made a good game here. But it could have been a great game. For me the story is the only let down but I'm still rating this story at a fair score.100% will play the game again when it more than likely comes out for PS5 with hopefully a grounded difficulty.

On a technical level a find sign off for this generation, as far as story, an under pinning of how ND is being led by sex obsessed sociopaths.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had originally not bought the game because I could not determine whether the negative reviews were justified or not. Now that I have ended it, I am deeply saddened by all the characters, because nobody goes home with a happy ending. And the fact that I can empathize with the characters at all has given the game a particularly intense narrative style.

One of the biggest criticisms seemed to be that the protagonist of the first part dies. What surprised me was that someone was surprised that this could happen. Because if you look at the end of the first part and what Joel had done, you shouldn't be surprised if anyone sets off to kill him. And that's exactly what happened in the end. Whether you can understand Joel's actions or not is debatable. But that's exactly what Naughty Dog wants. That you deal with the conflict. It should be noted that Ellie could not forgive him for his actions.

Another point of criticism was apparently Abby. And I could not understand that either. Abby has understandable motives to kill Joel and shows that she is not fundamentally malicious by ultimately sparing Ellie. Even two times. Even after Ellie waged her own vengeance against her.
In order to draw Abby's character, a clever decision was made to make her the protagonist. And that's where you get to know their youth, their first love, their conflicts and their good deeds.

Finally, many were bothered by the lack of revenge caused by Ellie. That too is at least as debatable as the end of the first part. Should she have done it? Would she really have been happier then? Would she suddenly have Joel back? Could she have told him that she did forgive him? What did Ellie get out of indulging in her desire for revenge? In the end, nothing more. She sacrificed her calm and peaceful life for it and won nothing for it. But she wouldn't have that by killing Abby.
Many wanted to see revenge and apparently did not understand that the action criticizes exactly that. Those who commit themselves to revenge lose more than they win.

Overall, the game had many moves that showed how detailed it was. Abby, for example, wasn't just strong because she wanted to be strong. She went to training every day and didn't skip a day for her revenge. Ellie lost her innocence and wit the deeper she plunged into revenge. Where she made bad jokes at the beginning was nothing more than emptiness.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 2 was one of my most anticipated games over the past 7 years. I fell in love with the original on PS3, and later the remaster on PS4. Despite having some of the game’s story spoiled via leaks, I kept an open mind and waited to judge the game until it came out.

It turned out to be one of the worst gaming experiences in my life. The story in this game is so poorly written that it lets down the whole product. Naughty Dog changed scenes shown in the trailers post leak, to show an older Joel and make people believe that he was present during much of the game’s story, when in actuality these are merely flashbacks sprinkled throughout the game.

Joel dies very early in this game. Roughly 2 hours in. He is killed by a newly introduced character, Abby, when she tortures and murders him with a golf club.

This kicks off a revenge plot that meanders here and there, but doesn’t lead anywhere satisfying. We’re constantly told that “killing is bad” but the game’s themes are at war with it’s brutal gameplay, which consists of Ellie killing legions of enemies with their own names, and some dogs too.

About halfway through the game, the player switches to controlling Abby. They then have to play 10 hours of her backstory, where she plays fetch with her dog (that Ellie just murdered earlier) and saves a zebra with her dad. All this is designed to emotionally manipulate the player into sympathising with this woman, Joel’s murderer.

Abby’s section culminates in a boss fight against Ellie, where the player MUST control Abby as they hunt her down. Why Naughty Dog thought this was a good idea is beyond me. Eventually Abby wins and spare’s Ellie and her pregnant girlfriend’s life because her new friend disapproves of pregnant woman murder.

A bunch of other pointless things happen. The last act is a mess of time jumping and everyone acts incredibly out-of-character. Eventually Ellie decides to go finish Abby. She leaves her GF and baby and travels to Santa Barbara, where she finds Abby tied to a cross.

She lets Abby down, they head to the shore where some boats are and Ellie decides she “can’t let [Abby] leave.” So they have a fight to the death. Well not exactly.

Abby bites off Ellie’s fingers and Ellie begins to drown her underwater. She then has a flashback of Joel playing guitar, and it somehow causes her to spare this woman. She lets her leave and cradles her stumpy hand.

The ending has Ellie return to her home, where her family has left her. She tries to play guitar but it’s impossible without her fingers. (No idea why she didn’t just play lefty lmao)

Ellie has lost Joel, her GF, her baby, her friends, everyone she cared about and now her last connection to Joel, her guitar. She leaves alone. The End.

So this game is such a mess of “themes” and “messages” that it’s hard to really unpack exactly what ND is trying to achieve here. There’s something about “the cycle of revenge” or something but it’s lost in the ridiculousness of the plot. Any messages the game thinks it’s conveying end up coming across as incredibly condescending and shallow, instead of deep and profound.

This game basically spits on the relationship of Joel and Ellie, and I strongly caution anyone who has ANY love in their heart for the original game and it’s characters, to stay far away from this. The level design and animations are very impressive, as is the mood and atmosphere. The gameplay is fairly solid and practically identical to the original.

All in all, TLOU2 is a disappointment when it should have been a gen defining game. A pass when it should have been GOTY. All I can say is I truly hope they never make a TLOU3. Before this game came out, I wondered if we even needed to get a sequel, now I wish we didn’t.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Only problem I had was the story execution. After the intro scene, Naughty Dog should have shown Joel's hospital rampage from Abby's perspective. Then you play as Abby until she gets split up from Owen, then it switches to Ellie waking up.

For those of you unsure whether to play this game or not, just try it and form your own opinion. This game is great, if you loved the gameplay in part 1, you'll love it in part 2. The music, sound design, graphics, everything is top notch and it's stuff that Naughty Dog has been one of if not the best at since the PS3 generation.

The story, well a lot of people are saying the story has plot holes. There are no plot holes. People are saying that it dumbs down characters, it dosen't do that either. The Abby hate is ridiculous and pretty silly considering that Joel killed her dad. However the story falls apart right there for a lot of people once Abby kills Joel. It falls apart to the point that when you play as Abby and see things from her point of few, people refuse to want to emphatize with her and a lot of people disconnect from the game entirely. If you can't emphasize with Abby and see things from her point of view, then you're not going to enjoy this story. If you see Ellie and Abby's conflict as a sinple protagonist/antagonist story, you won't enjoy it. None of these characters are villians or heroes, they're morally grey characters that have tragically gotten caught up in a cycle of violence and revenge.

This story points out the bias, we the players, have for Joel and Ellie. Joel is not a hero, he's done some terrible things in his life and not all of them were in self defense. He also decided to sacrifice humanity's chance for a cure, and lied to Ellie about it. With all of these things known, people still refuse to understand why Abby does what she does. They still wish Joel's death would have been heroic, or that he wouldn't have died at all. Why? There are no heroic deaths in the world of the last of us, and a heroic death shouldn't be given to a man that's not a hero.

People don't want to try and understand that Joel had this coming. If your loved one was killed, you would want revenge, so why can't you understand Abby's motivations? Players can't let go of the memory of Joel, just like Abby couldn't let go of her father's death and how Ellie can't let go of Joel's.

Abby and Ellie have valid reasons to get revenge, but because both of them took that path, their lives and the lives of the people around them ended up worse.

The ending has gotten hate, once again due to people not understanding why Ellie didn't kill Abby. Ellie didn't kill Abby because Ellie realized what she was becoming. The whole game Ellie struggles with forgiveness and holds grudges. She held grudges against Seth, Joel and against the WLF. And as Ellie held that critical grudge against Abby and the WLF and sought revenge, she started to turn into a monster. Torturing Nora, killing Mel, certain things Ellie would not normally do, she did in pursuit of revenge. Her revenge got Jesse killed, Tommy's own need for revenge left him blinded and at the end of the game is marriage was fractured. Ellie pushed for revenge and lost Dina. So all this buildup, all of that anger, exhausted her and she finally realized, killing Abby would not bring back Joel. And finally it seems that at the end of the game, Ellie was ready to move on.

If Joel could move on and leave Ellie to her faith, he wouldn't have died at Abby's hand. If Abby had moved on, she wouldn't have lost all her friends. If Ellie moved on, Jesse would be alive and she would be with Dina. No one could move on and stop the cycle of violence and revenge, until finally at the end Ellie chose not to kill Abby.

This story is dark, it's depressing and it hurts, it did something to me that no other game has done to besides Halo Reach and Red Dead Redemption, it made me cry. And Tlou 2 was the first game that made me truly feel bad for what these characters were going through, and it gave me vivid dreams about them.

Play this game, it's fantastic and the story is too, but you have to open your mind, and truly try and understand the motivations of these characters.

Getting us to play with Abby, after she killed Joel, is the biggest mistake. Obviously I didn't create any empathy. No matter the time spended with her, all I wanted was revenge !
I understand that the whole construction of the story depends on demonstrating Ellie and Abby's revenge motivations and his affects, but play with Abby ? After she killed Joel !? Not for me.
We have a lot of life history with Joel and Ellie, a few hours playing with Abby will never hit the same felling. Considering too that Joel's choices have always been fair, makes Abby's revenge pointless and hard to deal.

And this guides to the second big mistake: Joel's death. It would never happen from that way.
Tommy and Joel have been pass for a lot of problems, problems enough to comes to a point that they would never say their real names to strangers, especially in the circumstance that they said, surrounded only by strangers. I think Joel wouldn't say his name in that situation even if Abby had saved him instead of him saved her previously. I am okay if joel have died, but the way he died disregards who joel is.

The Last of Us didn't need a sequel and the second part was everything we didn't want. Doing what they did was disrespectful to the story itself and the fans.

I don’t like seeing all this hate getting thrown at creatives. I don’t believe the writers are evil and trying to force their worldview on you. While some of the writing is disagreeable with established character traits and motives, some makes no sense in any light. The gameplay, atmosphere, sound design are top notch and truly an achievement. That being said I think this is the most I’ve ever been let down by something I love, that being The Last of Us and Naughty Dog. It’s one of those things, I wish fan petitions could get a rewrite but that would not be fair to everyone at naughty dog. I’ll be pretending this game never came out, which is tremendously upsetting. As a gamer I’d recommend this game on visuals and gameplay alone. If someone who were a fan of the last of us didn’t know this came out I would NEVER recommend this game. Expand

So i see.The majority of the reviews are from june 19.The game released on june 19.Basically everyone completed 20 hours+ of gameplay,on day one.Don't even read those **** reviews made just to put crap on the game.Let's see, basically you are rating the game 0-1 because joel dies and you can't accept it,you don't like abby and the game has lgbt stuff in it.Some even say "graphics are good, mechanics too,but 1 for me because i don't like the story. How can someone be so immature?I'm rating it 10 firstly because it's an awesome game in all its parts, second because i want to get the score higher. This game doesn't deserve all the zeroes just because you don't have common sense and rate it 0 or 1 even if you know the graphics are spectacular and mechanics too,it deserves a six only for that, find another game with the same things today.Think before reviewing next time and play the game first ;).. Did they end up with everything that the game presented us in the first, joel, tommy donkeys, giving identity to strangers? I didn't like it, pramim ended in the first, joel's death was pathetic, political, ideology, and forced sealing, anyway I didn’t like it, I’m just going first.

The story and the choices made by who made it are for sure controversial and hard to digest but it's almost perfect for what it wants to communicate. It's a story that wants to make you think, that touches human deepest and darkest emotions. Unfortunately, given the circumstances (the leaks, which fortunately for me I've never saw) people is highly biased and they literally bombed Google an metacritic right after the game was released, so don't trust them, don't trust me, just play it and be the judge. This game doesn't deserve the hate that is getting, I'm sure most of this people giving to it 0 an 1 didn't even play it. This results are simply unreliable and clearly irrational, you may not like the plot but giving it less than a 7 or at least a 6 out of 10 its simply unfair. Graphics are astonishing, same goes for animations and facial expressions, acting its really really good. Sounds effects and music are great. The gameplay made a big step forward compared to the first game, is fluid, very realistic and enjoyable. All this elements mixed together create a full immersion in a virtual world built with high mastery. The level of detail that they've put inside the multiple buildings that you can explore, in the nature that has literally eaten our artificial world, is unbelievable. There are lots of smaller details all around this world, notes, drawings, graffiti and more. This little things make the immersion even deeper and realistic towards the context, a post apocalyptic world which feels real, more real than what we got from most movies or TV shows. Sometimes during the exploration you will find something which will arouse Ellie's attention, she takes out her journal and makes a scatch, takes notes. You can read this journal and feel her, empathise with her, she is broken and you will be broken with her. Sometimes she will find a guitar and start playing (and you can actually play whatever you want, if you can of course).

SPOILERS AHEAD Probably the most controversial part is when you start playing as the " villain". Honestly it caught me off guard and I got **** angry, I didn't want to play as her but at the same time I couldn't stop, I needed to see it through. A lot of people is accusing the writers that they wanted to force us to empathise with this character and somehow they felt offended, almost violated. I can get their point but this is a story driven, interactive movie like game, you don't get to chose, you just experience it. From my perspective the director just wanted to emphasise that everyone in this devastated world is in the same **** Even her, who killed one of the most beloved characters in the videogame history, is a person, and from a neutral point of view she deserved to get her revenge. After all that man killed her father, and as a consequence millions of other people kept dying. Having said that, I've never empathised with her, actually I kept hating her till the very end but this doesn't mean that I ended up hating the game, it means that I got really invested on it, like never before. Thus, this risky and controversial approach worked very well on me. If you loved the first game like me you will suffer while playing this one, you will mourn, you will feel rage and hate. But you will also experience moments of joy while remembering the past through very powerful flashbacks. This story works, it's very well written and it makes perfect sense. To me this is the best story driven game I've ever played, it's simply on another level.

Story had some holes and I think they pulled the whole Abby thing out of no where but Ellie handled it like I thought she would. I read people saying she let Abby go for no reason but she let him go because she finally saw he was at peace. I liked Dina unlike most people but I hate that the game put me against Tommy. It was expected. Ellie losing her fingers and family hurt the most. She said in the first one she feared being alone and we left off with her having lost everyone. I hope they make another and try to fix things. I still have hope. Expand

Most claims I heard about the game were either false or seriously dumb. I promise you that any game could have been hurt with this much hate coming at it before it even arrived. If this game is too much for the community, that's just sad. It's the most emotionally and narratively complex game I ever played and it deserves praise for being different, not hate.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
