The first game was borderline perfect. 10/10

This pile of garbage... it hurts reviewing it.

This one has 2.4/10 for a reason. Don’t fall for the ‘woke’ bs. We all knew Ellie was bi if not gay from the DLC. Blaming the reviews on homosexuality or any other ‘non straight male’ excuse is poor.

The gameplay sucks compared TLou1.The story decline even worse than the final season

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For me this game is a Dark Masterpiece.

The creators did something risky; they flipped the video game troupe on its head. In nearly every game, we the player and the protagonist mow down, the quote on quote bad guy without really thinking anything about it. But in Last of Us 2, we get to understand the "bad guys" perspective and see their motivations.

Now to the biggest part in the game, The Death of Joel. This was heart wrenching and rage inducing, but something made me pause, it was the anger the "bad guys" had, it made me pause and wonder, Joel what did you?

And that pause and that question made me have a more open mind.

Getting to play as Abby at first was disorientated, I did not want to play with her, she killed Joel, screw her, but as I progressed and I saw the other members of her crew and what they were about, how certain members were disturbed by what happened in Jackson, some were just fine. Others had their own goals, like Manny looking out for his father, Mel trying to figure out how to be with Owen and how her pregnancy was viewed by her members. It was that look into their worlds that made me start to see them as more than just killers but as people trying to survive in this chaotic world. It also made me very conflicted about the fates they would soon suffer

    Back to Ellie

What took by surprise was how Naughty Dog really showed the traumatic effects of PTSD. They did this in Ellie's diary, how she described her thoughts how Joel, how she remember him and sadly every single thought or remembrance was one of jarring pain. Time can heal words, it can take the sting of a traumatic event and either reduces it to a small dull ache or a forgotten vapor. But PTSD takes that traumatic events and put you right to square one, day one of the intense pain. Pain so intense that you lose all sense of where you are, pain so intense that it continues to eat away at the very core of you bit by bit. That was beautifully illustrated by the reappearance of Ellie at the Farmhouse. She was gaunt and weary, she had no therapist to turn to, no bar to go to, no medication to help with the mental anguish, all of the modern conveniences of the modern world were gone, and sadly nothing she attempted to do could help her with her perpetual anguish, except one thing.

Ellie was born into a brutal world, there is no law but survival and anything or anyone that means you or your loved harm, must be killed. Simple as that and for her the only way to quell that anguish is to find and kill Abby, even if it cost her, the hard won peace and happiness she found with Dina.

Now back to Abby – Her design as a character for me was smart, Naughty Dog did not design her to be a classic videogame female beauty like Elena or Chloe from Uncharted, they did not want to rely upon looks to convey any sense of empathy for her, instead they relied on her all consuming quest to find the man who murder her father, who murder the leader of the Fireflies, the man who destroyed her whole world, Joel. And also the aftermath that followed. They relied on showing her vulnerability and her fear of heights, and finally they relied on her redemption arc, to save to two kids, even if they were her sworn enemy.

    The End.
The jarring parts of this game was the illustration of what blind rage fueled obsession can bring, and that absolute dissolution of person as the continue on that path.

The absolute most jarring part, was the end.

Ellie finally finds Abby, and Abby is longer a She Hulk of a character, she is withered and beaten, all of her rage, of her strength, even her trademark pony tail is gone, she is a broken shell of herself, and sadly even as Ellie sees this broken version of Abby , she still cannot let go of her pain. They have a truly sad and Ellie has a pyrrhic win, and just right at the moment where she can finally kill Abby, she has a warm remembrance of Joel, finally a memory that is not jolting, but one that sees him healthy and ok.

In that moment she lets go of it all, the hate, the rage all of it.

I see a lot of negative criticism for this game. I really think people cannot hyper-impose their reality into a world that is completely different than there's. The sad thing is that people really are missing the point when it comes to how people truly deal with trauma, everyone is different. Everyone will handle it different and Naughty Dog attempted to show how pain and obsession can have some very devastating effects to not only the person dealing with the pain but also to those around them.

I say play it again, and remove that thought of what you would do, instead realize you are truly witnessing a tale of descent...

A tale that was beautifully told.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game really isn't that bad. I was a fan of the first game, played it 14 times. I actually played and finished this game, currently going back through for the Platinum. The graphics, gameplay, sound, and music were all wonderful and there are certainly impressive improvements from the first game. If the leaks and reactions didn't come out before the game I'm sure reactions and reviews would be so much different now. I will be thinking about the ending for a long time though because it falls short for me in that we don't know what's next for Ellie. I think it would be a cool feature if we could have made a choice as to how the ending played out, whether Ellie would go back after Abby. Some of the gore and shock value things (showing dead Joel multiple times, killing dogs, the killing a pregnant woman trope) were a little cheap. One of my favorite aspects of the game was how much it mirrors the first game (the scene in the museum vs. the scene with the giraffes, Abby & Lev vs. Joel & Ellie, Joel trusting Abby and her group vs. Joel trusting Sam & Henry, Tommy & Jackson, Marlene & the Fireflies).

What I'm stuck on: The story leaves me disliking both Ellie and Abby. They both have awful coping skills. Of course I don't like the way Abby killed Joel. I don't like how Ellie handled his death and willingly gave up everything because she couldn't find a way to mourn that didn't risk other people's lives. I think that things would have been better for her if she just learned to express her grief in healthy ways to Dina and Tommy instead of straight up acting on her feelings. Abby has a similar way with Owen. I think in some ways only showing happy/positive flashbacks between these characters kind of counteracted building empathy for where they are at that point in real time in the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished the game today. I really loved the story and found it to be very emotional and moving. I went in blind... never read any of the spoilers or leaks so everything was surprising a new. Honestly, I can see why people didn't want this fate for Joel and Ellie but it doesn't make me love them any less. Dramatically, having Ellie lose Joel is heartbreaking and is really the only thing that could drive her on her single minded quest. It gave the story unexpected weight and consequence that I never expected.

And, yes, the decision to have you play as Abby really was challenging at first... but I did come to love her as her stay progressed. She and Ellie are more than people seeking revenge... that would be too simple... these are people suffering from severe PTSD and their only way to deal with it is to hack and slash through their nightmare world.

The scope of the story and set pieces are as amazing as everyone has said. The combat is as fun as the original and even smoother.... really inspired to play through and again and to master the weapons and combat even further.

Like a great book, I already miss being in this world with these characters... can't wait to see what Naughty Dog does next.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My brother and I were huge fans of the first game, the story and cinematic experience itself was unlike any other game that we had ever played. Never had either of us been so moved by a story before. The game play for the first game is not as smooth or good as part II. That's a given since it's been 7 years since the first game. TLOU Part 2 looks amazing in terms of graphics, game play, and voice acting. Despite that, both of us felt that the second game story wise, fell flat on it's face.

The execution of Joel's death that happens and is in the beginning 2 hours of the game, to unwise and uncharacteristic decisions of Tommy and Joel, not balancing the game with lighter tones and jokes (like the first game), forcing you to play the game in a way where you wish you could make a different decision, makes it impossible to truly enjoy this game.

After Joel gets killed, it's super difficult to even continue playing this game, since he's gone and you end up playing as Abby. In one word, I would describe this game as depression. It's hard to empathize with a character (Abby), who you know nothing about and you don't have an entire game to make a connection with her, unlike in the first game with Joel and Ellie.

I think if the execution of the story was slightly altered, it could've been a phenomenal experience, but due to inconsistent writing that doesn't line up with the previous game, it's an utter disappointment.

    Story wise: 3/10.
    Character development: 5/10.

Horrible story choices, so that's why it stays at a 3, since the first game story wise was a masterpiece.

In the words of my brother, "I wish that I didn't waste 80$"

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The short version is that I really enjoyed this game despite its flaws. It's not perfect, but I don't think it deserves the ire that it's receiving.

    Let's start with the bad.

    Inconsistent gameplay:
    - I came across a few bugs, the worst one being an animation glitch where Abby kept trying to draw her weapon and ended up looking like she was having a seizure. There were also a few times where Ellie teleported across a door to open it or got stuck in an animation while opening a drawer or cupboard.
    - The platforming is pretty bad. Considering Naughty Dog's experience with Nathan Drake, I expected better. The jumping feels slow and unresponsive, and many of the platforming puzzles require you to sprint and take off at the end of a ledge.
    - Stealth mechanics could have used a bit more polish. There were a couple of times where I was crouched behind a wall, completely out of view, but then suddenly the combat indicator went off without warning. Thankfully these issues weren't super common, but the couple of times they popped up came as a nasty surprise.

    Storyline:
    - It's a long game, the middle portions really drag on, and pacing feels all over the place at times. This is most apparent when you switch to Abby after 10+ hours of playing, and the game feels the need to reeducate you on how to craft items and toggle your flashlight. Also, I'm not a big fan of flashbacks within flashbacks. It just feels like sloppy storytelling to either retcon something or to make the player empathize with the character without earning it.
    - Too many characters and not enough development made me wonder, "Who cares?" Abby's crew consists of Owen, Mel, Nora, and Manny. Owen gets a decent backstory and Manny brings a few moments of levity that add some personality to his story, but the rest of them feel like cardboard cutouts. I actually forgot who Nora was when I got to Abby's storyline because she was such a minor character.
    - Kill hundreds, spare one. Similar to the Uncharted series, The Last of Us Part II struggles with the moral gray zone of its protagonists mindlessly mowing down hundreds of people and balking at the idea of killing one more person. With Lev watching Abby, it made sense, but Ellie giving up on her revenge mission after sacrificing her family, her friends, and even herself (or at least her fingers) felt a little weak to me. I get that not all endings should be satisfying, especially for bad people who do bad things, but it did feel like they were setting Ellie up for some kind of redemption arc only to let her return "home" to an empty farm.

Alright, so now let's talk about the good.

    Graphics:
    - It's genuinely one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. The setpieces are incredible, and the water effects both while swimming and in the rain are breathtaking. Artistically it sets a new bar for games.

    New Mechanics:
    - Ellie and Abby's new agility made for some genuinely tense and exciting gunfights. I typically favor stealthy builds, but this game forced me to play more aggressively with less predictable enemy routes, dogs that can sniff you out, and far more limited resources. Many of the arenas also had a lot of verticality, so I found myself constantly finding angles or flanking enemies. The gunplay feels familiar but polished, and the cat-and-mouse evasion routes didn't get old for me even after 25+ hours.
    - The rope physics are really cool! It's not a very prevalent element of the puzzles, but the "Aha!" moments of using wires to climb something felt super satisfying.

    Plot:
    - Alright, let's talk about the plot. Abby murders Joel in front of Ellie's eyes. It's a visceral, gruesome moment. Since I avoided spoilers, it came as a huge shock to me, but it didn't feel cheap or shoehorned in. It felt like the culmination of all the people he killed to get to his happy ending in Jackson. I believe after 4 years of living a comfortable life and watching Ellie grow up, he got a little soft and even learned to trust people. You're talking about a guy who cleared out a whole museum wing just so Ellie could sit in a capsule and listen to an audio recording of a shuttle taking off. He changed a lot.
    - To anyone complaining about roping in political, SJW plotlines, remember that Ellie "came out" during the Left Behind DLC. If you're a true fan of the series, you'd know that. And the bits about Lev - His character shows the most development besides Abby and Ellie, and it feels earned. If they wanted a superficial trans character added to their game, they would have made it Nora or Danny or some other random person, and they certainly wouldn't have given them an entire chapter of the game.

All this is to say that I enjoyed my time with the game. Do I love the direction they chose for all the characters? Not necessarily, but I respect their decision, and I think the story is impactful and powerful. If you really believe it deserves a 0/10, you must not play many games.

Lazy character writing in a story full of plot holes and inconsistency creates a cast of characters the player doesn't care about and can't follow. Jumping the story out of sequence doesn't help cover these problems but only causes the player to be further pushed away from the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I just completed the game for the first time on the 2nd hardest difficulty and I honestly loved it. I idolized and praised the first game, playing it over and over again numerous times. Honestly one of my favorite games of all times and this game shares a similar feeling to me. Obviously no game is perfect, and this game had a few things that I wasn’t the biggest fan of. I know most of the hate revolves around the characters and plot, and this is where my biggest complaint comes in; I thought that the extraneous play time of Abby (a newly introduced character) was a bit of a nuisance and took away from the tone before the shift in characters

I’m not against her completely or what she stands for in the game. She’s a driving force of the plot and, forced or not, I believe she pushes the game in a very interesting direction. What I’m not a fan of was the player being forced to take her perspective for such a long period of time. I think the game was clearly trying to make the player sympathize with her, but that seems like an impossible task based upon what she did in the first few hours of the game. Her flashback sequences just feel pointless and like wasted gameplay potential. I understand how hard it is to create new complex characters, but I feel like the relationship between Joel and Ellie is what made the first game as amazing as it was, and trying to recreate similar relationships by destroying the old just didn’t seem to work in the same way. I just wished we developed Ellie’s relationships with her friends in place of Abby. I think maybe filling the gap that left with Joel would have been an interesting turn. I understand that the intentions of the game was to mingle with the ideas of violence and payback, so the way they went is understood, maybe just executed in the wrong way? But then again, I’m not a writer or professional critic, so I’m sure many things go over my head

I would like to state again that I loved the game. The characters were still well done and the game flowed nicely besides the extended break between the end of Ellie’s Seattle story and the end of Abby’s. There is so much to love here and I hope people realize that soon

Overall I still enjoyed it thoroughly and don’t think it deserves all the hate it gets. The cinematics, score and gameplay made for a really emotional and enjoyable experience. I definitely jumped at points, got sad at points and got angry at points. For a survival horror game that focuses on the relationships between people, I thought it was still well done with the few potential missteps with new characters and plot.

Incredible graphics, fluid and dynamic game play utilizing the best in motion matching and animation, as well as an incredible display of sound design, level design and detail, features and accessibility. It is clearly a labor of love from Naughty Dog, and the best technically from the studio. Aside from a couple of small gripes and issues (such as not being able to switch shoulders when not aiming), it's as close to perfection as you can realistically get.

In the story department, rather than rehash the first games story into another version of itself as many fans might expect, the game uses the fundamental interactive nature of video games to do something different and risky - use the player's emotions against them in a sort of meta analysis on the tribalistic nature of mankind, loss and grief, as well as the player's own perspective in this story. I can't help but be compelled to draw comparisons between the pain Ellie feels of being robbed of a chance to reconnect with a loved one, with the pain many player's feel of being robbed of the potential connection they were hoping to have with this game based on their expectations.

The story sets up many assumptions, and then through perspective switching and flashbacks, asks you to question what you "know": will Ellie really achieve what she sets out to accomplish; what makes a "bad" person, bad; what separates "us" from "them"; is tribalism inherit or learned; and finally - is forgiveness more powerful than revenge?

Many will say the story is bad, or has plot holes, or is just pandering to an audience - I disagree (mostly because nobody has been able to clearly articulate why these conclusions are true). But even if these things are true, the story deserves praise for being different and daring to try something radical with a medium that is fundamentally more powerful than anything traditionally. I suspect that much of the hate the game is receiving is based on this expectation of normalcy shattered by an attempt to wrench the player through a traumatic experience - an experience that many may unwilling to examine past the initial shock, which many may be trying to pin on the game itself, rather than what's it's trying to communicate.

Many hate this game simply for not being what they want it to be. That's fine - because not all media is designed to be what you want, and I think that's great.

Given the impact it's already had a mere 6 days after release, I'm excited to see what kinds of discussions this game generates moving into the future.

That being said, the story somewhat lags throughout the middle, and can keep the player feeling bored and unmotivated to continue due to the pacing. I think a chronology shift would have made the story significantly more enjoyable to play through and experience. The gameplay is an improvement from the first game, but nothing groundbreaking. The graphics are fantastic, and the facial animations often look extremely real.

Overall, I'd say this is really worth a play, or at least to watch an LP on Youtube to experience the story. It is worth the outcome, no matter how it seems from afar.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is a remarkable game and one with the most intense stories ever. It is amazing the amount of feels you get while playing it and that is one of the most amazing things you can get from a game. In fact, I don't know if we can call, for example, The Last of Us Part I & Part II or Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2, games. In TLOU II there's a lot of incredible things going on. For start, game design and the level of detail of this apocalyptic world are beyond amazing, I don't know if there's another title with this level of greatness on that matter. Gameplay also is incredible with new movements and animations that feel fresh and with the feeling that not all encounters are going to develop in the same way every time. Semi 'open world' gives a clever way to show evolution in the franchise. Sound design is marvelous, specially while playing it with a good set of headphones, you can feel inside this world, and sometimes you get uncomfortable when your 'zombie' enemies: clickers, stalkers or runners are ready to hunt you down.

The story, which it seems to be the matter of disagreement among gamers, for me was great. And I don't know when everyone became so expert on writing and storytelling. Although this is a revenge story and you could say is a cliché storyline, I think this kind of stories never gets old. The message behind and the one I got was really touching and, in a matter of fact, very applicable to so many societies around the world. And no, I am not talking about the LGBTI content which, by the way, I don't get why people on 2020 are offended by.

Talking with spoilers beyond this point, I think Ellie's motivation was completely right just as right as Abby's. You see Abby as the villain for a long run of the story, but when you get into her shoes is where it lies one of the messages of TLOU II, there are two sides on every story. And even sometimes you can hate the Abby character, there's no denial that you can feel her pain and how broke she went with the loss of her father, and eventually all his friends and love interest. An eye for an eye, seems to be one of the guides along the story, but at what cost? And that's the question that comes to shine, specially when Ellie's actions went too far in the pursue of her vengeance, like killing a pregnant woman who refused to tell her some information. And in the end, when Ellie realizes that she can't stop thinking about it, that she can't sleep knowing she didn't got her revenge, and eventually being that close to kill abby is where the story really delivers, because, for me, she realizes that killing Abby isn't going to bring Joel back to life and maybe isn't going to give her back her sleep or her calm. Joel made his own decision back in TLOU I, and it was a really hard decision but as we can see it came with several consequences. Ellie is a completely different character, with her own feelings and thoughts. In her pursue of vengeance Ellie looses her love interest and she is completely alone, she is forever wounded physically, mentally and in the most deep of her soul. I don't think that she leaving behind Joel's guitar was an act of ungratefulness or such, I think is a sign of what she lost, she lost her capacity to play the guitar forever again, guitar that Joel gave her and taught her how to play, and that kind of wound will never be healed.

I don't think TLOU II is perfect, there are some repetitive stuff in things to do, and you may feel annoyed going on some missions. For example, Abby's quest for the medical supply didn't got to me that much but it was shocking with that huge infected encounter. It has some passing issues and with some cliché and predicable things that happened, and some plot holes. I think that in a very long time I'm not replaying TLOU II because it may feel really long and tedious. I write this review while listening to the original Soundtrack and I have to say, it is amazing and really touching, I wished it was more used during the story to give it a more emotional experience.

The Last of Us Part II is an incredible story with one of the best gameplays and graphic design for this generation of consoles. The story has a great impact on you if you keep an open mind and give the opportunity to this characters to get into you. I don't know but maybe people would be happier if this was the third story of the franchise and there was middle story in which we could see more of the immediate repercussions of TLOU I and all of the things between Joel and Ellie after her discovering of the truth.

To anyone who took the time to read my review, thank you! (Sorry for my bad English)

Why is this game a 10/10?

Before I give my review of this game, I should make it very clear that this game is not SJW propaganda. There is no agenda. Any review that gives a 0 or a 1 is just not a correct review. This game is divisive, a 3 or a 4 maybe even a 2, sure. A 0 or a 1 however, is just wrong. This is not Sonic '06, this is not E.T., this is not Mass Effect 3's ending the game.

So many of these negative reviewers clearly show they have not played the game in its entirety. Know that no matter how much they read or how many clips they see, they will never understand the game unless they play it and give it a fair chance. They're not giving the game a fair chance if they just go in to hate it and self-validate their hate. Anyways, my review.

To start, the game play builds off of the same systems and mechanics that made the first game work so well and it accomplishes its goal in seeking to improve upon all of them. It makes several refinements and adds a few very appreciated additions to traversal and combat that combined with new animations and great level design make for a highly satisfying and fluid experience.

When it comes to the graphics and other technical aspects of the game, once again Part II improves upon its predecessor in every way possible. Visually this is by far the most beautiful and stunning game that Naughty Dog has ever made. The added benefits of HDR and a higher resolution that come from playing on PS4 Pro only make this game look that much more incredible. Moving away from just strictly visuals, the new animations that I mentioned previously are a welcome site that add to the realism of the game and I never tired of seeing them. The new physics engine in the game also seeks to help maintain immersion at all times. Last, but not least the audio design is absolutely fantastic and though it is a part of gaming that goes largely unnoticed, in The Last Of Us Part II it was so good that I couldn't help, but take notice.

Though near everything about a video game is subjective, it is practically undeniable that everything mentioned beforehand is nothing short of an improvement on the first game. So, on to topics more subjective like music and character performances. As far as music is concerned, it is at least on par with the music in the first game meaning that it is just as powerful and effective as its ever been, Character performances are stellar and personally they exceed the brilliance of the performances from the last game. With some of the best motion capture and animation in gaming, The Last Of Us Part II is able to display facial and physical emotion like no game has ever done before.

Now on to the story. The story is not fun to play through, but that doesn't stop the actual narrative from being a phenomenal achievement in storytelling. The writing of this game is undoubtedly excellent and it never falters in trying to tell the story it wants to be told. This game does things that no other game has ever been able to do before. It engaged me emotionally, physically, and mentally like no game has ever done before. It provides a unique experience completely different from the one provided by the first game and very much like that experience, The Last Of Us Part II can never be replicated.

Ultimately, The Last Of Us Part II transcended how video games can make a player feel and it will be talked about for years and years to come. It is truly an experience like no other. It is a violent, vile, intense, hate-filled, and abusive experience that was constantly attacking my senses, and I loved every bit of it.

The sequel to the phenomenal action survival game of 2013, The Last of Us part 2 while long awaited has been...underwhelming to say the least.

First, gameplay, very important in video games correct? Staying true to the original, it remains a standard cover based stealth style of playing. However this becomes a fault when the sequel offers little difference in gameplay compared to the original. Same mechanics, same strategy to surviving, same everything pretty well. There wasn't too much "new" things added to justify a sequel, which makes it seem more like a story expansion instead of a full sequel. Perhaps the oversaturation of the genre over the years has left this feeling stale? Which is all the more reason it feels like there should have been something different to distinguish itself from the other games in this genre.

Next, visuals and sound design. As per it's predecessor, it's graphics and game design remains a staple example in it's generation as an echelon to reach, with amazing landscape design and animation. Sounds from the first have been enhance, such as sounds made by certain enemy types. Overall, great sound and visuals.

Lastly, the thing that made the first such a huge success, the story. Without giving too much away, it lacks in comparison to the first, which was a given to be expected considering the first had one of the best stories in gaming history. Now, this does not mean the story is terrible, once again, it deals with tragic, sad, and endearing elements present in the first game, and expands upon the original, but the quality narrative didn't transfer as well to the sequel. Still a GOOD story, but not AS groundbreaking as the first.

In conclusion, while it's debated on whether or not this is a "worthy sequel," it's a sequel none the less, and if you love the first, this is definitely worth a try.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am I huge fan of the first Last of Us and thought it told a simple but effective, emotionally powerful, well-acted story. I was hugely disappointed with this game's narrative. It could have been so excellent with so many amazing characters and themes, but instead we got a bland, horribly paced revenge story with unlikable characters and terrible, unsatisfying twists and turns. I feel there were moments of captivating intrigue and brilliance like the farmhouse sequence with Ellie after the first fight with Abby, the really engaging opening in Jackson (I thought Joel's death was an great way to kick of the story and made you relate to Ellie and the hatred she felt towards Abby) and the lore surrounding the Scars, FEDRA and the WLF. However almost everything else story wise was atrocious and unsatisfying. The ending honestly left me disheartened and depressed. I cannot believe how Ellie went from one of my favourite characters in gaming to a whiney, aggressive, humourless, bland brat. And don't even get my started on Abby! I cannot believe we were meant to sympathise with this utter jerk. I don't mind unlikeable, nasty characters at all. But to play as a character I don't even like for half the game just felt tiring and unnecessary. Her story just had so many pointless subplots.

One thing I completely adored was the gameplay. The actual gunplay and controls, are fine at best, but the cat and mouse style skirmishes are just so engrossing to play through. The options presented to the player are all interesting and viable and I loved seamlessly and tactically switching between slowly sneaking behind enemies and picking them off with my bow and knife, and once spotted unleashing my bullets and traps to reign hell upon my foes before running away and going hiding again. Ellie and Abby are so agile and fun to play as with a wide array of upgrades to choose from and weapons and gadgets to use and craft.

The level design is probably some of the best I've seen with the levels being open and vertical with plenty of places to explore and many different routes to take. In fact, I'm going through my second playthrough of the game right now just because of how fun I found the gameplay and exploration.

The music is okay. I love Gustavo Santaolalla and his music but in this game the soundtrack felt really generic and bland compared to most of his work.

Technically this game is a masterpiece. Visually it is stunning. The low hanging fog, the pouring rain, the ruined, crumbling dilapidated buildings are so amazing to look at and explore. At times the game looked photo realistic. I loved the atmosphere. The sound design is really meaty and satisfying as well. I never game across any glitches. Seems like a really polished game.

The real highlight of the game I think is the performances. Particularly Ashley Johnson as Ellie who really brings a pretty lifeless character in this game, to life.

I thought there was a lack of interesting cut-scenes. I often would rewatch my favourite scenes from the first game over and over again just because I though they were so powerful and awesome but in Part 2 not one scene jumped out at me as particularly memorable, or at least not in a good way. This leaves really long stretches of gameplay which I don't really mind because the gameplay really worked for me but it could be really repetitive for some people.

Overall, I though from a technical and gameplay standpoint this game is a complete masterpiece. But there are so many poor story decisions that were made that left me unsatisfying and feeling like this game was wasted potential that disappointed and disrespected everyone who waited 7 years for this narrative catastrophe. At the end of the day I did enjoy playing The Last of Us Part 2. Its highs are high and its lows are low.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had such high hopes for this game. Despite all the bad reviews I wanted to give it a fair chance. Honestly, the only good parts of the game for me were a couple of the flashbacks and the mechanics. If we had the story of the original with the gameplay of this one, you’d have a 10/10 from me.

The established characters do so many uncharacteristic things. From what I understand, Tommy has always been a stick to the plan type of guy since he left the Fireflies, but they send him out on an unplanned murderous rampage. That’s more of an Ellie trait, but this time Ellie is the one with at least a little bit of a plan. It’s like Naughty Dog just threw out everything we knew about the characters’ personalities and made up completely different people that happened to have the same names. The most disappointing part about all this is how misleading the trailers were. They straight up switched Joel out with Jesse in one of them. Maybe if they gave us the game we were shown then it wouldn’t have been so bad. Overall, if you care about the original game, don’t touch this one. But if you know nothing about the original and don’t care about the story, then you might like this one. I guess thank you Naughty Dog for teaching me to never preorder a game again.

I feel that this is a game that you can’t judge based on reviews. This is an experience that the player needs to witness and decide on in their own mind. The game is not perfect, suffering a bit in some poor story decisions, but where it falls behind there, it makes up for it all with its impressive visuals and great gameplay.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is no denying that the gameplay and graphics are great but for a game that is single player only the story needs to be good and it is unfortunatly utter trash. After what she does and how she does it i had zero interest in playing as Abby, i don't care what Joel did and seeing it from her view still didn't make me change my views on Joel's actions and the fact that Abbys half of the game is just trying to make you feel sorry for her which i don't.I finished the game somehow slogging through the last half but wow that ending is awful and i'm guessing part 3 if there were plans for one won't happen after the obvious poor reception of Abbys character and the total destruction of Ellie and Joel's.It may be a massive success in terms of sales but this will do massive harm to Naughty dog's future games especially after the blatant misleading trailers showing Joel on the journey in scenes that don't even exist.I wanted this game to be good but it's a massive thumbs down from me. The first game was a masterpiece, a "once in a lifetime" story full of twists and turns, characters you loved and an emotional story that will have you on the edge of tears. This game has none of that.

First let me point out what i did like.

The graphics are amazing, they aren't mind-blowing like some have claimed but they are still pretty awesome, the sound is good, voice acting is as good as its ever been ,even if many of the VO artists have be obnoxiously rude to the fan base. The soundtrack is the best part of the game and the environments are some of the most immersive and detailed if ever seen. That folks is wher my praise ends. Because the games director was and is more concerned with pushing social ideologies than he is telling a competent story. Hes more willing to listen to a certain ideolog/professional victim , that shall remain nameless, than he is the fan base hes allegedly trying to make this game for.

This game doesn't make it 30 min in before issues like race and sexuality are put to the for front. Its obnoxious and distracts from a story that, now that I think of it, is probably worth being distracted from. Character motivations change on a dime. Its quite jarring to have a character be completely for one option one moment, and then less than five min later be for the exact opposite option for no other reason that the story needs it. This game relies heavily on flashbacks so much so that huge chunks of the story are told out of order like a Tarintino movie. I cant give any examples with out giving away spoilers, but the plot in this game has more holes than a cellulose sponge. The characters you loved from the first game are completely different than what they where in the first game and the new characters are so boring and poorly written that by the end of the game I didn't like any of them. Most of them are so awful that as I write this review I cant recall any of their names. The ending to this game was not only very abrupt but so bad that it felt like they stole it from a Z grade fanfiction. But as bad as this game is that's not the worst part about this whole mess. The worst part is Naughty Dog and sonys reaction to the story leaks.

See about a month before the game released the entire story leaked online, and naturally people didn't like what they saw and took to twitter and youtube to vent their dislike with the story. Even though it fell completely under the fair use provisions of The Digital Millennium Copyright Act, Sony and Naughty Dog began to give false statements on legal forms in the form of DMCA take down notices. These notices lost a lot of people a lot of money and risked taking away their livelihoods just because naughty dog cant take criticism.

In the end this game is a huge mess and disappointment. Terrible story and game play that operates on a repetitive loop. A game made by horrible people who care more about pushing a social and political narrative than making a quality product.

Avoid at all costs, thers many indi devs that make much better game that deserve your money much more than these people do.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I felt disappointed enough with this game to actually go and post a review online, which I dont think I've ever done before. Spoiler free part:
The story was just a waste of time. The gameplay was solid, music, voice acting, graphics, etc. All superb, so please understand how bad the story had to be to get such hate. The first half of the game was fun, overall off to a great start. The problems arise half way through, when the terrible decisions come through. I'M GOING TO BE CLEAR, my dislike for this game has nothing to do with it's LGBTQ themes, I was actually excited to see how they would handle these in the storyline. My issue is with the story progression, and the characters.

    !!!!!!!!!!!! Spoilers !!!!!!!!!!!

Abby is just an unlikable character. I knew Joel at some point was going to die and I knew the game would mostly be about Ellie which made sense, I was ok with that. I DIDNT know Joel would brutally killed by Abby in the first hour. Seems like we were promised a LITTLE more Joel than that, but ok, revenge quest starts early. It was fine for the first half...then, the switch. We actually have to play as Abby. The character we all hate for killing Joel. And we don't just play as her for a little, or in little bursts. you play almost an entire half of the game as her! And despite SOME cool scenes, you don't stop hating her. Playing as Abby was a "meh" experience at best. She's boring and the first impression of her is an irredeemable one. I can't count how many times I repeatedly let her die in game. A solid ending could have saved it all, but the ending was meh as well. Ellie spares Abby to end the cycle of violence, which is an odd place to draw the line after Ellie just spent three days stabbing, shooting, bludgeoning, dismembering, torturing, impaling, intentionally infecting, strangling, blowing up into actual pieces, and lighting on fire, what must have been 100 people at least. But Ellie travels all the way to Santa Barbara to... not kill someone.

If all you care about is gameplay and graphics, this is a great game. If you like stories,, but you didn't play the first, its ok.

But if you LOVED the first as much as I did, and loved the characters, and waited 7 years to see what happened to them, this game is heartbreaking. LOU was a masterpiece, 10/10. It deserved a 10/10 sequel and got a 4/10 AT BEST. Part 2 had all the makings of a great game DESTROYED by awful story choices which for a studio of this quality is inexcusable. Therefore, one star.

The trailers led us to believe this would be the next chapter in Joel and Ellie's story, it wasn't. It was half a game about Ellie and half about someone we don't care about and don't like. We deserved a better story than this. This isn't what we were promised.

When I first started playing as Abby I was pissed I had to play was the person who tortured and murdered Joel. After "Day 2" I had no choice but to be invested in her story. I was again upset when I had to attack Ellie and then elated when Lev stops "me" from murdering Dina. When Ellie tracks Abby down in California I was fully prepared to murder Abby but she had Lev with her and they were both broken, when Ellie is drowning Abby I literally had tears running down my face.

GOTY for me, never has a game made me so emotionally invested in the "villain" (whatever that means), because in Abby's story Ellie is the villain, so to be able to see both sides made me rethink how much I hated Abby in the beginning. Such an amazing and unique way to tell a story.
