I see why people might not like this game as much as the first game, as they were expecting a game with the same quality story as the first last of us, and they might be disappointed when they play the game and figure out that the game is going in a different direction all together. However what people do not realize is that this game isn’t trying to tell as complex of a story as the first game, and what it is really about is the message it is trying to share, it shows you a vicious cycle of violence and death and how your actions can hurt you later on, the message it is trying to share is a great one, and it comes off very strong and does that in a very good way. My downsides to the game would have to be the pacing and the structure, Joel is killed so early that it cements the idea of abby being the villain very early, it would have been nice for us to play as her for more time and really build a connection with this character and realize all that she has lost and gone through and what she has done to get where she is, but it’s hard to empathize with her after our first impression of her is so awful. Im not mad at Joels death but it could have definitely been dealt with better and later on in the game. The story also started to drag after we play half the game as Ellie, go through her struggles and emotions and also collect upgrades, new guns, training manuals ...etc, but then forced to be a character we are supposed to hate, and have to restart from the beginning collecting new materials and guns, upgrading your health and more. Playing as abby wasn’t bad, some of the coolest parts of the game were played as her, but it didn’t feel the same, and you don’t like her, and you don’t sympathize with her when her friends die, because you don’t like them either. All in all, this game could’ve been a bit better if only they structured in better and let us like abby more before making us hate her. But the game has stunning graphics, imagery and scenes, the gameplay is awesome and combat is great. This game doesn’t deserve all the hate because people aren’t truly looking to see what the game is about, and the deeper meaning into the characters lives and how they intersect and weave together to form something bigger. I speak for myself when I say this, but hear me out: this game isn’t perfect, but it’s a powerful cathartic experience, and I think you would miss out on something extremely rare if you didn't experience it for yourself. I didn't find the narrative deficient, nor the characters to be "bleak" or "empty". I thought it was a beautifully weaved story with brilliant pacing and deep and rich characters. Characters fueled by hatred, revenge and suffering on every side, brutally contrasted by love and memories of what hope of a better world could have ever meant in a sunken world (in that sense, I think playing the first game is imperative to really comprehend Ellie and Joel’s relationship). I felt for every one of these characters, one way or another. And yes it's about vengeance, but it's so so so much more than that! What Naughty Dog did here is undeniably audacious and risky, but believe me, it is absolutely worth it, precisely because of what makes this medium what it is: immersion. I cried, I laughed, I felt regrets, fear, loss, I mourned, a lot, I felt love and hope, I felt hate and despair. If you read this, don't let the hate get to you. Give this game a try, headphones on, shut the lights and just dive in. Try to forget about the fact that there were leaks in the first place. You gotta play this game for yourself, and if you don't like it, fine, it's okay, why wouldn't it be? I can see why a lot of people don't like it, but don't hate it for the wrong reasons. At the end, I'm just terribly sad that this game got ruined by leaks out of their context. If it weren't for those leaks, a lot of people would have seen it for what it truly is. I tell ya, don’t miss this. You wanted the sequel? Well there it is, that’s it right there and you know what? It was worth the wait. Expand

The story is the absolute WORST I've seen in any video-game. Who the f tought it would be a good idea to make you play for 6 hours with Abby, it doesn't matter how much she has suffered, I want to end the game with revenge, not with her as a friend. TLDR:
Mechanically, it is a blast to play through and if you enjoyed how the first one played, you will enjoy this one. It adds some new tricks to the formula but nothing groundbreaking. Visually, it's a stunning experience that we expect from ND (great for photo mode). Narratively, it is quite the ride, though certainly not without it's issues as it can fall flat at times. Overall, it is a pretty good follow-up and definitely worth playing.

    Game play:
The additional space it gives you to roam around and explore at times is both a boon and a detriment to itself. With (some of) the spaces as large as they are, it tends to mess with the pacing of the narrative (a bit more on this later) and can start to feel tiresome if you are the kind that likes to explore every nook and cranny in these kinds of games. Each space though, does feel unique and interesting enough to warrant exploration.

The combat, again, is more of the same but the kills feel more brutal albeit a bit comical at times (death screams/dialogue). There are a few new weapons to play with later in the game that are fun alternatives to the usual but don't necessarily break the mold. There are also some new enemies. The new infected are a fine addition while the new human enemies do not necessarily bring much to the table in terms of surprises but do require paying attention. Neither one feels so different though, that you won't be able to take them on.

The AI is more competent, generally speaking, this time around. Though there are some instances of the usual issues that were present in the previous title. To iterate, companions you have during certain parts are more useful than before. However, enemies seem to be oblivious to their presence at times as they stand or run out in the open which can break the immersion. On the flip side of that coin, enemies can at times feel a little too observant making stealth difficult (though this can be adjusted in options). If you are not playing through guns-blazing (or adjusting difficulty), you will likely find yourself waiting a lot for an opportunity to move that doesn't ever seem to present itself without resorting to just going full-on Rambo. Enemies in this installment also have better aim and at times can start to feel like you are going up against battalions of world-class marksmen with straight-from-the-factory weapons and not post-civilization groups of regular joes with scavenged/well-used ones.

Accessibility options for those that need or want them are well done. There is also the inclusion of difficulty sliders for various aspects of game play (resources, player damage, enemy damage, and more) which allows you to tailor the game to how you want to play.

    Graphics:
Visually, the game is beautifully crafted. All the minor details in textures, lighting, and level/character design make it feel alive and makes the photo mode a pleasant tool to play with. The animations are crisp and realistic. The facial animations specifically are extraordinary. It's what we've come to expect from a ND title for better or worse. Not much more to say here.

    Story:
Again, avoiding spoilers so I won't be going into specifics. The overall narrative is where this game has issues. It is fine; its not great nor terrible though it does have moments of both. The pacing feels off and I wonder, going back to the world space, if it would have been better for it to have been more linear. There are areas in the game that (are supposed to) have a sense of urgency but having so much space to explore, you may find yourself getting easily sidetracked and it just doesn't end up feeling as urgent as it should. The introduction of some of the factions don't really add anything to the narrative and seem to serve only as a means for the player to have something to overcome until the next main story beat is reached. It would have been better for them to have been developed further.

The narrative, generally feels a bit disjointed and all over the place due to over-reliance of flashbacks and the order of events end up messing with pacing and impact of the story overall. Writer's self-described intentions (commentary on violence) end up falling somewhat flat due to the structuring of the story and ironically, the game play itself. It perhaps would have been better served having more tension building and less combat. To elaborate, how is killing supposed to feel impactful when you do so much of it through out the game? It plays out like a Rambo film with regards to violence.

However, with all of that being said, emotional beats were not completely lost (on me). The lighthearted moments were great and felt good to experience. They felt genuine, like the characters were real and were some of the best moments in the game for me. In the more disheartening or painful moments, I could easily empathize with them. In those moments, it felt visceral.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 对于我来说,双关语标题:The Last of Us 的Us代表的就是乔尔和艾莉。

The gameplay is fine tuned and the environments are ridiculously densely-detailed. It's evident how it took 7 years to create.

There are significantly more complicated enemies and allies. Everyone feels far more real and fights for their lives. Nobody wants to die but so many will. The way an enemy will gurgle on their own blood when missed headshot gets their neck to the way an enemy will scream with fear at being dismembered but still alive. The way brain matter will hit the wall and slide down it, and blood will streak and splatter across surfaces. There's so much more I can't mention.

The audioscape is the best of any game I've ever played. Setting the dynamic range to wide makes the footsteps of an infected stalker in a derelict building a quiet rustle that's hard to detect, and a blast of your shotgun deafening. The surround sound options create an incredibly immersive and frightening sound experience. The story is harrowing. The gameplay is just simply hectic. It's a dark masterpiece that I honestly don't think is that fun. It's horrible and often frightening. Sections of peaceful story-developing sequences are suceeded by brutally violent encounters in a way that humanises, then brutally desensitises you, over and over. It's an exhausting journey that is far bigger and longer than the first game. Having played the first one 6 times, I think it will be a while before I can play this one for a second time.

Darken the room, close the door and get a good pair of headphones. There's no better way to appreciate this experience.

I love this game, perfect balance of puzzles and action. The story is amazing too. It really let's you see things from different perspectives. Brilliantly done. The details are also incredible e.g. ropes and the use of them, the use of gravity and so forth.

People are overreacting towards the writers drama choices. The story isn’t as good as in the first game (that’s no demerit, since I fail to find a game that has accomplished that) but it doesn’t diminish the game’s quality as people have been saying on their reviews.
    I simply loved it!

This is just something I had to talk about. Something I had to speak my words for. This game is art. As someone who loved the first game and still loves the first game, this game exceeded expectations highly. Every gameplay system, mechanic, story arch and character is amazing and flushed out fully. Never once did the game fail in trying to make me feel a certain emotion. It made me make hard choices. It questioned the very purpose of the way to play games, and how sometimes as the saying goes “the only way to win, is not play”. Never has a game before this exemplified and embodied what that means, to this extent. It took characters I loved, and made them real. There is no good, no bad, just gray. Every expectation I had going into this game was somehow flipped on its side. What a lovely, gruesome, dark, and scary game. The symbolism alone is heartbreaking. At the forefront of the story there’s a duality between characters and their intertwined journeys that I think is unmatched in revenge tails. The debate over what this game is trying to say will last for years, and I just wish I could take part of it more. I could go on. But I think it’s just best to experience for yourself. Saying that, TLoU is a praised for it's narrative and it's relatable characters, and this sequel does not deliver that same level of storytelling we see in the first game. There's plenty of spots in the game that could have resulted in a more compelling story and characters but the placement and pace of the game didn't accomplish what the game was trying to do. I must say it started well but lost it's momentum as you played through. In the end the game felt hollow and fell flat on it's main revenge based theme.

In summary, if you get this game you're gonna wanna play it for the experience of being back in the TLoU world, not for the story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. That was one emotional rollercoaster. I knew this game was going to be rough but that really hit me hard in the feels.
I really enjoyed it and before the end I thought I'd immediately replay it, but I think I need to give it some time before I put myself through that again.
As a fan of the first game I had very high hopes for Part 2 and it did not disappoint.

I really enjoyed the first half of the game.
I think the gameplay has been improved upon drastically. The first game always felt a bit clunky, and while Part 2 isn't perfect, it was so much smoother.
It was heartbreaking to see this darker and far more serious Ellie (it makes sense, but gone is the little pun-loving girl from Part 1) and every time I'd sneakily kill someone and she'd slit their throat my heart ached a little bit looking at the pain and hatred on her face. That's another thing that was superbly done: the facial animations! Bravo Naughty Dog!
I thought the introduction of Dina was a great move! I found her very likeable and I'm glad she was with Ellie. Their conversations when you're travelling together are wonderful.

Now, I enjoyed the second half of the game also, when you play as Abby, BUT I just couldn't care for Abby. I wanted to! I really wanted to like her, but just as I'd start to warm to her she'd do or say something that took me back to disliking her again. I totally get her reasons for killing Joel (Joel wasn't perfect either and killed so many people, same with Ellie) but I just couldn't get on board with her. When playing as Ellie I would hate seeing her die (and man, I died A LOT in this game) but when playing as Abby when she died I just didn't care. I did enjoy the second half of the game though but I did catch myself at one point wishing for Abby's story to be over so I could get back to playing as Ellie, and let me tell you that never happened in the first game or when playing as Ellie in Part 2. I also found Abby's quest dragged for a bit too long. I know we had to stay with her for that amount of time in order to sympathise with her and appreciate she has some redeeming qualities, but I just couldn't get on side. She annoyed me to be quite honest. I will say I don't think Abby was a bad person all in all, she let Ellie and Tommy go TWICE, she saved Yara and Lev and turned on her own people to protect them, so she wasn't an outright dick... but I didn't like her. I wanted to but I just didn't.

I think the decision to switch to Abby halfway was a very ballsy and interesting move. It definitely made me think about the violence that everyone in this world inflicts on each other. There are no "good guys" or "bad guys", just people trying to survive. When you have to fight Ellie as Abby it made me realise that to some people (Abby etc) Ellie isn't a good guy in the same way as Abby isn't a good guy to some (Ellie etc).
I think too many fans are expecting a black and white story, where you have the "goodies" and the "baddies" but that isn't the world of The Last of Us. Naughty Dog have created a complex world with complex characters and it pays off.

I consider myself decent at video games and played this on Moderate and died A LOT! So either I'm not as good as I thought or ND have improved the AI so much that even Moderate is difficult.
I loved fighting enemies in this game! They're so much smarter than the first - I'm mainly talking about the human enemies. The way they communicate with each other and will flank you I thought was excellently done. I also found when being shot it really knocked me back so much that I'd have to scramble to try and get back up before they'd pump another bullet in me. I like that you can't just charge enemies if they're firing at you because you will, most likely, die. It made me really think about how I would take them on. The way enemies will actively look for you, looking under and over objects, was very well done. I couldn't stay still for long and it constantly kept me on my toes.
I also liked that there are waves of enemies. In TLOU once you cleared enemies, that was it. But as TLOU2's map is so much bigger it allows for a constant flow of enemies which was great!
Hitting someone with a weapon was very satisfying and felt "real" (not that I find hitting people in real life satisfying... but you get the jist).

I've read some of the user reviews on Metacritic giving this game a 0/10 yet will praise the gameplay and graphics. How can you score something 0 when there are parts of it you rate? It doesn't make sense. I think too many people are hurt that Joel was killed and then they scored the game low without even finishing the story or trying to understand the message this game is giving us.
Overall, I'd give The Last of Us Part II a 7.5 (verging on 8) out of 10. Not perfect by any means, but one I shall be replaying for years to come.

Vocês me decepcionaram.

This game has a ton of controversy surrounding it so knowing that I will simply do my very best to give the most honest opinion possible. NOTE FOR SPOILERS AHEAD. This game is first of all, NOTHING like its predecessor. And that is both a great thing and a terrible thing. In fact, upon my first playthrough of this game I had so many mixed feelings that even now I still need to process it all. I can definitely say however that I have zero problems regarding the actual gameplay. The visuals and animations, the design and graphics and combat and traversal, its all something amazing. Nothing groudbreaking but definitlely a worthy and noteable upgrade from the original. My mixed feelings derive from the story. That is what The Last Of Us is truly known for. The theme of revenge and violence begets violence is nothing new in modern media but it is still engrossing nonetheless. But the character direction, motives, and bleakness of the world and story makes it hard for me to consider this game as fun. It is intense and in all honesty, I found myself vastly disagreeing with the stories directions at points. Especially considering that you have to play almost half the game as the essential antagonist of the story. I still am trying to understand what would make Naughty Dog feel that this was a good idea. I understand that the point was to humanize Abby but (with purpose of keeping the story vague) after what she does to multiple beloved characters, there is simply no way I can root for her. Ellie however is completely different from the girl we protected back in 2013. Much has changed. The story has many beats and many points which are reasonably divisive over the community and a subject for debate for years to come and the ending left me with a feeling of emptiness that I once again cannot be sure is a good feeling or horrible. This game is unique in execution though heavily flawed in ways that regard the narration. Still, it is a technical marvel and a story which must be decided on a personal basis without any peer pressure or community bias. I enjoyed the game and despite my issues, I do appreciate how I wrestle around on my standpoint towards the plot and my standpoint as a fan in general. Play it first then decide but overall, for me this game is definitely worth a shot. Although I do enjoy the original game more, Part 2 is surely a journey to be had.
Overall Visuals and tech-10/10 Animations and sound-10/10 Gameplay and combat-9/10 Story(For my personal experience based on my first playthrough of 24 Hours total)-6/10. It has incredible moments but there are certain things that I find hard to justify considering the magic of TLOU 1 and the 7 years ND has had to set an alternative work in motion. Still, the ambition behind it all is something that should be given recognition. In the end, you be your own judge.

A mim, decepcionou parcialmente. Expand

I am not a robot. I bought the game. I finished the first half part and stopped before Abby's part. So I guess I have the right to rate, am I right? Take my suggestion: don't buy it. If u bought it, trade it immediately. The writing is the worst!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man was really hopeful for this game but ultimately was disappointed.
It feels like they were just trying to be edgy.
The only thing this has going for it is graphics.

I thought long and hard about this review as I loved the first game. The game has impressive graphics and has improved the gameplay of the original in almost every way. It has the best difficulty and accessibility options I have ever seen in a game and if I was rating solely on this I would give it a 9+

    BUT

The story is very basic in writing and scope. Though it took me around 21 hours to complete if the padding was removed it would likely be less than 1/2 that. On top of that the player has zero influence over the story and has no choices in the game what-so-ever that affect anything. Your playthrough will be exactly the same as everyone else outside of combat.

The characters also act contrary to how they are set up during pivotal moments. I won't go into details as not to add spoilers but the choices the characters make are completely against what they would do based upon their other actions and motivations. If I was rating only on characters and story It would be a sub 5 score.

As a whole package I settled on a 6 as what I feel is fair. It saddens me as I loved the first and this could have been an 8+ with some changes to the narrative and characters but will now just be a below average game I will forget completely in the future.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The hard truth is, ND is not progressive, they use the suffering of minorities to create further divide for marketing. Obviously the story was bad, the gameplay was bland and unoriginal, and the graphics were great, but you’ll find this in many other reviews. For me, I was also very disappointed in this game that was being announced as “overly progressive”. Black representation was poor (every black character was a villain/opponent that got brutally murdered by white woman, and they had zero redeeming qualities, it honestly looked racist), asian characters were an obstacle to the white characters that resulted in problems arising, or completely tossed away with zero care like Jessie who dies and is never brought up again (not to mention Ellie previously cracking a joke that she’s not interested in him because he’s asian), the back story to the trans character Lev was that he changed his gender from female to male because he was opposed to marrying a cult elder, not because he was uncomfortable with his body. And the lesbian relationship between Ellie and Dina felt like a bad, early 2000’s TV drama where neither of them could be happy. Naughty Dog has a poor history of racial issues in games. With a team led by a majority of straight, white cis-males, them cashing in on causing divide with progressive issues they don’t understand is disgusting. When the leaks happened, and everyone was making disgusting remarks about the trans community because they thought Abby was transgender (as ND randomly decided to make her masculine, and had announced a trans character but didn’t name who), both Neil Druckmann and ND refused to shut down the hate by telling people they were wrong, and instead waited until after the game released for a “Gotcha bigots, you were wrong the whole time!” moment, thanks Neil, the LGBT community appreciates you putting your “art” over the suffering of minorities. If people are under the impression Abby is trans, and she killed the previous games protagonist, people were going to hate on her for any reason they could find. I’m currently under the impression now that those leaks were from ND themselves and it was all just a marketing stint, clearly hasn’t effected the sales. A progressive company doesn’t throw away a lead female writer two years into a project. A progressive company doesn’t cover up sexual assault/harassment from their employees and throw NDA’s around monthly. A progressive company doesn’t treat their workers like crap resulting in layoffs and people leaving on a weekly basis. A progressive company doesn’t cast a white woman as a black woman (Laura Bailey in UC4) without telling the actress, resulting in her getting the negative response for taking the role. And most assurable, a progressive company doesn’t make a game like TLOU 2 that insults the very people it’s meant to be “pandering” to. But don’t get me wrong, ND is neither progressive nor conservative, they’re just terrible people cashing in on our outrage, thanks to the assumption this is the only game with LGBT characters. If you want a game with good LGBT representation (many exist), I recommend Life is Strange and Celeste, much better games with much better stories. And lastly, the LGBT community, people of different races, and all minorities just want one thing, acceptance. The Last of Us Part 2 doesn’t offer that, it just shows you how white straight men view us, as disposable pawns. 1/10, gets a single point for graphics, (although the lighting in dark areas could have been improved, characters lit up like glow sticks). The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
