    1st fked up part: 2 fking hrs into the game and the most beloved character from the first game got killed disrespectfully
    2nd fked up part: play as the mother fker who've just butchered Joel
    3rd fked up part: in the end, somehow Ellie spared the life of that fker after a few flashback of Joel and ended up losing 2 fingers
    so basically, what the hell did we do the whole game?    … Expand

The story s**ks! Charecters do strange things and you will say to yourself: why? And no answer. No answer to a single question. A complete story failure. This 95 is only for gameplay, graphics, sound and etc. The story is 0 or at last 3 from 10. This game dosen't deserve 0 but I am giving it show the anger of such a failure.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The main reason why this game is appealing is most likely due to its beautiful graphics and the nostalgia players feel when playing as Ellie. Joel, the beloved protagonist from the first game, dies in the first two hours in a pathetic way. Not only does Joel die, but the purpose of the story is to paint Joel as the antagonist who killed an innocent doctor just trying to do his job. Completely disregarding the fact that in order to develop a cure, the doctors had to kill Ellie, someone Joel viewed as his own child. Naughty Dog tried to get us to empathize with Abby, the daughter of the murdered doctor who died trying to kill young Ellie to develop a vaccine, by making gamers play as her for the last 14 hours of the game. This is an attempt to make gamers view Ellie as the antagonist, because she killed many of Abby's friends in an attempt to avenge Joel. Ellie was simply trying to attack those who were involved in Joel's murder, in order to reach abby, his killer. The goal of the latter half of the game was to humanize Abby, the one dimensional shallow character who was created in order to illustrate that revenge is bad no matter what the circumstances. The only way this game will even be remotely redeemable is if they add a multi-player mode. It seems that the main goal of the last of us 2 was to create a story that was politically correct enough to appeal to video game journalists, not the diehard fans of the first game.     One of the most emotionally draining games I've ever played. Right behind the first game. I managed to avoid all spoilers and therefore experienced the game as it was intended, the two but twists were shocking to me and initially I was angry and upset but by the end of the game my opinion had completely changed.     The game has a complex plot that will make many cry. Fans of part 1 may not like it, but this is a story to be expected. The plot is very strong, I really want to see part 3 of the game.

    Amargo, esa fue la única forma en la que puedo describir el final del juego. Y por eso mismo es genial. Logra hacerte sentir tal mezcla de emociones que es imposible distinguirlas todas. Me parece una obra maestra digna de su predecesora. Puede que tenga algún fallo pero creo que nos llega a presentar una historia tan madura y tan cruda que creo que es este el camino que tienen que tomarAmargo, esa fue la única forma en la que puedo describir el final del juego. I'm not saying the game is bad, however, the marketing and the articles I see online about it are are a bit infuriating since most of them do not seem to care about the game per se.

    One thing, most game developers that "try to be inclusive" seem to miss is that there have been strong female protagonists Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Nier, Metroid, Horizon, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and queer/trans characters in video games with options to romance them for decades.

    This "woke" approach is nothing new, nothing special and gamers do not care or want to be represented in any way in a game. What Naughty Dog did was a small inclusion of a group of people yet the game's makerting seems to revolve around the support to the LGBTQ+ community. Gamers don't really care if a character is straight/gay/trans/bi or something else, they care for a story and character development, much the same in the way of a book or movie.

    There are books or movies that leave you empty after you finish them, you're not always satisfied with the end but the problem here different. The feeling is quite similar to Game of Thrones' season 8 Deus Ex Machina that ignored character development to come up to an easy conclusion to end it all.

    We were expecting another harrowing experience of Joel and Ellie but got somewhat of a backhand slap killing off Joel in the beginning of the game for Ellie's "character development".    … Expand

They used this game to betray its fan base over an LGBTQ agenda; completely crushing one of our much cherished characters in video game history.     The gameplay of part 2 is similar, or slightly better than part 1. The graphics part is close to other recent Naughty Dog titles e.g. Uncharted 4, so the gameplay & graphics score about 9/10.
    Story: 0/10 No need to explain. The game challenges the bottom line of storytelling by failing every part of the story.
    Overall score: 0/10 because the game is all about its story.

Un nuevo protagonista, el cual tiene su toque; pero no llega a convencer totalmente, y el juego nos fuerza a encariñarnos con él de manera muy rápida, sin mencionar que fue la persona que mató a Joel en las primeras horas de juego y que pocos jugadores podrán empatizar con el personaje. Un gameplay similar al de la entrega pasada, muy aceptable y divertido de jugar. Una inteligencia artificial algo mala, sobretodo en los niveles de dificultad media. Finalmente, unos gráficos muy bien detallados y que impresionarán a cualquiera que pruebe este juego, simplemente hermosos, de lo mejor que se ha visto hasta ahora.
    Lo dejaría así:

    Gráficos: 9/10
    Historia : 4/10
    IA: 7/10
    Y la puntuación general que le doy es de 7/10. Ellie goes on a killing spree, We have to fight against Ellie.... As ABBY of all people, the person everybody hates. Then when we finally get to kill her they dont allow us. What I also hate is people blaming bad reviews on political agenda. I can guarantee that post people dont care that ellie is lesbian but they blame the bad reviews on that. I don't know why people want cliché and overused stories over and over again.     É simplesmente perfeito, os gráficos bem feitos, a história bem contada e elaborada, me emocionei e senti o que cada parte do jogo mostrava, um dos melhores jogos de todos os tempos sem dúvidas!!
    Fiquei triste em várias partes confesso, mas que jogo incrível!

    Last - there is very offending way of swaying the players perspective, hiding and missleading moments in the cutscenes... just to push some agenda of the narative.
    Famose for me - is the pregnancy of Mel - which is absolutly no visible when they capture Joel and is like in the sevent month when was killed (not to mention the madness of woman in such pregnancy level to go on a combat mission AND shoot, jump, hide and sprint)...

    Also the main message of the game is quite contradicting with what the director was speaking for the game. In any way - I don't agree on personal level - because what you can take from the game is... Revenge is -- Good. And I don't think should be that way.
    Abby is the quintessense of this. She finish her revenge plot, redeem for her crime and live happy ever after... No burden or else.
    Yes, it send Ellie on her dark and grim quest, but not achieving revenge - make Ellies life missarable - and not compleating her cicle actually was looking way worse...

    Ok. I finish here, because I can write and write with hours on any moment of the story in this game that is so so bad...

    The game is related to part 1 only characters, the end of the game is just awful and illogical, the whole game pulled only Joel in flashbacks, good only one graphics, gameplay is long and monotonous in the last mission I wanted to see the end and not shoot again, I would better pass part 1 again than this.

    People on here moaning need to get a grip. Just because they didn't release a carbon copy of the first game is no reason to instantly bomb it. This is an amazing experience. With a brutal, terrifying and hauntingly, beautiful tale to tell and should not be missed.

Anyway, I'm sure they'll all be happy when the next FIFA or CoD comes out.

    Having just finished it (yes, I actually played it and didn't base my opinion on what I saw on YouTube) all I can say is congratulations to Naughty Dog for gifting us the defining masterpiece of the current generation.     Congratulations Naughty Dog! This might have been the best entertainment experience I have ever had. I don't think there has been a movie, TV-show, a book or another game quite like this and made me feel this way. After the game was done I just had to sit in silence and appreciate the masterpiece I just played. The game is so well crafted in every way. As a person who doesn't hate trans people, women or queerfolk, I can confidently say that this game is a privilege to play. When I heard there was a trans character, I rolled my eyes expecting it to be a forced diversity cash grab. However it felt natural, infact the reasoning for such a choice made sense and propelled the story into further complex beautiful story writing. The game really makes you understand the heavy burden of what it means to take a life. The fact that NPCs that you kill have names that are cried out by their friends when their bodies are found, hits so deep. Watching your knife hit an artery as blood spews out while the victim expresses pain silently is very hard to watch. There was times I didn't want to kill to avoid this heavy burden. At times I found myself hating Abby, then hating Ellie, then loving Abby. My love and hate for the characters were ever changing and it really made you realize how nobody in this world is a completely good person. Joel of all people is definitely not one of them, yet I realized how hard his death hit, more so than any other character I've enjoyed. I love that man, and Troy Baker's voice acting, but what I hated more was saying goodbye. Another complexity I found was that the gameplay is stupid fun. So fun but morally hard to continue the killing spree that is LoU2. There was many times I wanted to fail boss battles and would let the NPC get some hits in because I was so conflicted about who should win, and what "winning" meant. Don't believe all the reviews here, some of them are just men from gamergate who haven't even played the game. My only complaint, or reason for me to not rank this as a 10 out of 10, is that Naughty Dog treated their devs very poorly. I think safety and we'll being should always be considered when ranking games. A large part of me wanted the game to suck so that Naughty Dog would see the repercussions of maintaining a bad workplaces, but the other part of me wanted it to be good so that all the sacrifice of the devs would have been worth the stress. Naughty Dog as a company needs to adopt the "ready when it's ready" policy. But people also need to go into games with open minds. Enjoy the game, I sure did. If you don't that's fine too!… Expand

    Fantastic sequel. I really dont get why people flooded to Metacritic to give bad reviews to a game they never seemed to even download. Naughty Dog definitely did it again! The story, music, acting, setting, and gameplay are all very good.

    Sadly with all the great game mechanics and beautiful graphics, it really gets overshadowed by the story line that feels messy. The first hour really felt disappointing the way Joel and Ellie was used, by you get to Abby, it just feels like you're just going through the motions. I don't have much of a reason to care for Abby. but whatever.

    Don't get me wrong it is pretty and somewhat well designed but for a AAA title, not so much. This is where the good kinda ends. The story is badly written and poorly executed in my opinion. And i'm not even talking about the current views and spoilers doing the rounds. Just the Established characters are off. Things are very filler oriented, character empathy is forced and strained.

    Controls in the first game were almost the same but smoother. The upgrade paths are linear and very 'static' in TLOU2.

    It is such a polarising game, some people wont care and 'fan boy/girl' and say it's amazing, but seriously, the standard is slipping.

    2/10 graphics do not a 10/10 alone, game play and story matter too.    … Expand

    1. Beloved character Joel died like a dog. His demise is so meaningless, created just as a plot device to push the game forward. Worse yet, you can't even get the satisfaction of revenge. Poor Ellie travelled all the way to Santa Barbara just to SAVE the murderer at the cost of her two fingers. She later tried to play the guitar but because of her lost fingers she couldn't. This is just so fking sad and ridiculous. I cried twice at the end of the game. Why ever would you do this to your fans Naughty Dog? Do you take pleasure in making us sad and miserable?

    2. Too many inconsistencies in the game. Tommy initially tries to persuade Ellie to not to go to Seattle but later got mad because she didn't want to. Abby is painstakingly shown in the game as a moral character who pets her dogs and tries to do right by people who have helped her, yet she didn't even blink to smash Joel's head in, even after Joel and Tommy just saved her life (I mean, at least show her hesitating, but Neil is too incompetent to think of this). Without Lev's intervention Abby would have slit Dina's throat, with great satisfaction that is. So much for a moral character (btw Ellie didn't know Mel was pregnant and only killed her in self-defense. This is different.). Ellie had no problem killing hundreds of people just to take revenge on Abby, yet when she finally had the chance, she gave up. (This bewilders the heck out of me.) What's worse, when she gave up, she should be thinking of the two previous occasions when Abby spared her life, which would make Ellie sparing Abby much more understandable, yet she was thinking about Joel when she stopped choking Abby. Wtf? Why didn't Ellie become angrier thinking of him? Why would she let Abby go? I can't believe a game that takes 7 years to make has so many loopholes like this.

    3. You are forced to play Abby for half of the game. Because of her actions many players DO NOT want to empathize with her. This is just another example of the terrible design of the game. If they place Joel's death at the end of the game, after they have shown Abby's backstory and struggles, then people may find it much easier to empathize with her. But ND decides Joel should die as quickly and as miserably as possible at the hands of a total stranger that is Abby, which makes it much more difficult for players to relate to her sufferings, and therefore makes people sick and disgusted the whole time they are playing as Abby. Want some proof? Just check out how many players tried to suicide Abby. I did it, many times, and it felt amazing.

    4. Shocking people for shock’s sake. Many of the scenes in the game feel unnatural, contrived, and illogical. Examples: Joel and Tommy suddenly go stupid and walk right into a group of strangers to whom they honestly confide their names; Abby’s group decide to spare Ellie’s life despite her repeated threatening of their life (the logical move was to kill her, but obviously the story has to continue); the brutal fight between Ellie and Abby at the theater can only end after Abby (played by you, who hate her guts) has killed Jessie, shot Tommy in the head, beaten Ellie to a pulp, and nearly cut Dina’s throat. There is no other way to continue the story (This is by far the single most disgusting plot design I have ever played in my entire life.). What is even more retarded, though, is Abby’s decision to spare Ellie’s life, AGAIN (…Well, it turns out in the end that this decision was actually not so bad, since Ellie also became retarded and came a long way to RESCUE her and Lev, instead of seeking revenge on her). These unnatural and illogical plot development can only be explained by the writer’s deliberate attempt at shocking the audience: Joel and Tommy suddenly become stupid because Joel has to die in a spectacular way, so **** logic, they are going right into an ambush. And of course, Ellie has to be there to witness Joel’s head becoming a golf ball (shocking as hell), so she’s there to see it and later released (stupid move on Abby’s part). I can go on but I don’t want to; you get the idea: shocking people for shock’s sake makes the story stupid and unconvincing.

    5. False advertising. This has been talked about by many people. The scenes featuring Joel in the trailer was swapped by Jessie. This is unacceptable.

    6. Too much LGBT propaganda. Ellie is lesbian; Abby is stronger than most men; Lev is trans, and Dina is bisexual. I feel like I'm watching a LGBT show than playing an actual game. I do not hate the LGBT groups but such overrepresentation of them is cheap and shadows other themes like revenge, love, and redemption.

    I'm really sad at the moment, not only for the TLOU series, but also for the terrible fate that befell Joel and Ellie. I'm deeply hurt by this installment and I'll try my best to forget that it ever existed.    … Expand

    Characters satisfied needed quotas of political correctness hence the 95/100 from so called pros. And obviously journos only cares about keeping it good with sony to get another game in advance.
    This could keep going and going. NDs zero respect for the fan fav characters and cheap "shocking" moments that are only sign of bad writting. Zero respect for the players and tlou 1, etc etc.

Regardless of the message the writers were trying to send to the viewer about "revenge" none of the games characters that existed in the first game ever felt true to the original. Joel and Tommy in the second game come off as idiots with an affinity for wanting to walk into lion dens with meat around their bodies. Which ends up being the biggest plot point in the entire game. The entire reason things pan out the way they do is based on a writing flaw. If you wanted to kill a character at least make it true to the character. In this case that wasn't done. This also doesn't take into account the pregnancy fetish that the writers seem to have. For almost the entire game you're escorting around a pregnant woman while you're both being "total badasses". While I am all for making women look strong in video games. This felt so forced that it leaves a bad taste in almost everyones mouth. We might as well talk about how poorly paced the game is. You are for about 12 hours of gameplay playing through a 2 day period through the perspective of two different characters. Both being insanely unlikable. While doing absolutely ridiculously unbelievable **** Like having a pregnant ally running around doing more work then an Army soldier in the trenches of an all out war or getting surrounded my enemies and someway shooting yourself through it all as a teenage girl with 12 rounds of ammo in a semi auto revolver. For this 12 hour time span you also have to play as the anatagonist for half of it. (HOW COOL. VERY VERY ORIGINAL DEVS.) With the anatagonist somehow being even more unlikeable then the now main protagonist Ellie. The time spent playing as Abby (The antagonist) is painful and will leave the player questioning if it's even worth making it to the ending of the game or if they should uninstall the game and play something else. Now I will say this idea isn't entirely bad if the gameplay wasn't insanely repetitive. Literally the entire game is. Go here, Kill People/Infected, Do the objective, Oh wait can't do this objective til I do this other objective there, Go there, Kill People/Infected, Do the objective, Go back, Kill People/Injected, Complete objective. This cycle occurs constantly through the game. The only nuance that exists between combat encounters is whenever you finally get a new weapon but even then it get's boring quick and it happens so unoften that it doesn't improve really anything. With all that being said. To the devs I must say. Playing as Abby was a horrible idea. Killing Joel was done so bad that it's unjustifiable. Pregnant women aren't Superman, Your characters aren't as likeable as you think they are. Your pacing choices made the game so grueling to play that the FBI could legitmately use your game as a torture method. The message about revenge you were trying to convey isn't new or cool or necessary. If you had nothing story wise. Just don't make another game. Your franchise is dead now. The devs look like complete jokes. Good job. Thanks for wasting everyones time and money.… Expand

    Firstly, this game is not bad in the sense of DMC2 being bad. The gameplay is well done and does feel like an improvement from the OG, though that does come with its own problems of feeling too similar to the OG.     But now, the story. Without spoilers, it’s a mess, not just in the themes it’s trying to tackle but also how the world’s logic works. Many of the plot points in the original title have either been forgotten or diminished in importance and many of the new characters pretty much run the show without really earning it. While I do find some of the new world building to be interesting, the methods in which we explore them feel hollow and less earnest than the original. I loved the original’s environmental storytelling and how some of the subtle elements provided us a good look into the apocalypse we only caught a glimpse. However, the sequel repeats this formula without much changes nor improvements aside from minor additions like the hunter dogs and new factions to face off. All in all, it doesn’t feel like a Part 2 but more as a Part 1 companion piece that fills in the gaps without interfering the main narrative.

    In saying that, I do have to give credit to the voice actors for they all gave their best performances. While I don’t like the writing for most characters, their voices and performances are fantastic and I buy their emotions. Special shout-out to Laura Bailey as Abby because she was amazing as an antagonist and as a somewhat relatable character. If it wasn’t for those performances, I would not have cared for the story or the cast.

    Finally, I have to admit that The Last Of Us Part 2 was a solid game with a weak story. Somewhat disappointing after the original but it does have some shining moments here and there. Still, if you weren’t a fan of the original game, I don’t think you’ll change your mind.    … Expand

I advise everyone who ended this game, let this story sink before making a decision and try to see it from different perspectives.     Naughty dog outdone themselves, I loved the rawness and pure survivor feeling that naughty dog nailed with this one. The game just looks and plays amazing. And somehow you managed to make the story work which i admire you for. A must buy for sure!!!

Quando vamos parar de dissimular que a grande revolta de The last os us part II, é unicamente o seu enredo, mas não por falta de qualidade na história e sim pelos assuntos abordados no jogo, fanatismos religioso, homofobia, transfobia... A Naughty Dog, sem cerimônia nos põe em frente do nosso reflexo, um reflexo que fingimos não ver. Depois de nos ver exposto desse jeito e notando o quanto somos podres e repletos de falhas.
    Sobre a morte do Joel, sempre soubemos que um protagonista velho para um "jogo" de ação, em nossa primeira jornada, já era um personagem mais lento, pesado.
    Lembro-me também, que quando saiu o primeiro trailer, a maior teoria criada era que Joel morreria. (Sabíamos que seria o único motivo para explicar uma fúria desenfreada da Ellie) Também me parece óbvio que um personagem com tal carga e inserido nesse universo pós apocalíptico não morreria de velhice ou prostado sobre uma cama. Esse "jogo" não tem como base nenhuma mitologia ou ser um conto de fadas, não é sobre se ganhar super poderes e sair matando os deuses. (O que não não o diminui com "jogo" ou dá status por isso) A proposta em the last of us é ser uma jogo sobre humanidade, falar sobre nós mesmo como sociedade, que não existe essa de certo ou errado e isso nesse segundo "jogo" vem mais maduro, sendo mais profundos que o primeiro. Ele cumpre com maestria o que se propôs. Uma odisséia no âmago humano. Não tente racionalizar entre mocinhos e vilões, o "jogo" bem mais que isso. Não existe hipocrisia nos personagens, os personagens só conhecem a motivação deles, você como jogador consegue olhar isso de longe e com o privilégio de uma imersão reflexiva, então use isso ao seu favor para degustar essa obra de arte.    … Expand

The gameplay was very exciting and while very similar to the first game it still had new elements to keep you on edge I didnt enjoy playimg abby as much as I did Ellie I respect the idea of humanizing the "villian" For those who think the game was bad I dont expect you to like or agree with Naughtydogs ideas but you have to agree that the story is still phenominal and the time and effort put into it makes it one to love.… Expand

    Thanks ND, you managed to make me hate on of my most beloved franchises and is not only because of Joel but because the whole **** the campaign was and how it looks like it was written by a pre teen cringey story. Oh and good job metacritict removing bad reviews, however the damage is already done and everybody that has better thing to waste is money on will not buy this cashgrab.

From a gameplay perspective Naughty Dog also should receive credit; they have used modern technology to refine the great gameplay from the first game and build upon it further. Approximately half way through the game an event happens that forces you to adapt and a change the way you play. For an hour or two I was unable to rely on some of the stealth tactics I had been used to up to that point; this kept gameplay fresh and the challenge exciting. Before long I had extra tools at my disposal to play stealthily but in a different manner to the preceding 12 or so hours. The player is put into fresh and new encounters through the course of the game which is no mean feat across it’s run time (I saw credits roll at 25 hours and 53 minutes and collected 198 collectibles). I took a dive straight back in in order to find missing collectibles and achieve that Platinum trophy, which also seems very achievable for anyone. Ignore the low user score, this game is a must play.… Expand

    I think there are some characters that you can't kill in a story, when you kill them the whole core of the series dies.
    imagine like walking dead kill, Rick Grimes!
    they removed Rick Grimes from the show but they didn't kill him.
    other than the core of the stories, you can kill anyone. like Sarah from last of us 1 which it was great writing or again, for example, walking dead which they killed a lot of important characters from the story
    you can make an example like this in every tv show and stories.

The graphics are stunning, characters are relatable and you actually get to play someone you would rather have killed than actually play for a moment.. but everyone is a bad guy in this game and it teaches us that you can literally loose everything as fast as you got it.. and that’s frustrating and sad. The ending should have ended with Ellie and Dina. But I guess naughtydog are making a DLC for that:) Or else I’m gonna be pissed. Ellie needs peace!… Expand

However, the story doesn’t make pretty much sense and the character development of Abby it’s not strong enough to make a bond with the player, so it only makes you want to finish playing her “point of view” because the bond of the player is with Joel and Ellie. Also, it’s okay the message the developers wants to teach you about violence and vengeance is wrong and it’s only going to give you tragic and sadness, but it’s kind of... it’s doesn’t feels natural it’s more like an obligation than a cool message.

    Of course it’s not a 95-96 like the first part, but forme, it’s more like a 85-88 (thanks to the story telling).    … Expand

I put the game down after watching you tubers explain that I’d be playing Abbey for 10 hours. I asked for a refund, and was of course told “no” since I’d already opened the package and downloaded the game. Wait until it’s $10 on steam if you’re into playing a game that makes you irritated and pissed for 23 hours. Games are supposed to be enjoyable. This is the opposite of enjoyable. The graphics are fine and the gameplay is meh, but definitely far from a selling point when the story is this bad and disgusting. 2/10… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hmm...Where should I start... I preodered the game at first day of preoder-openning. I started the game at 0:00 19th. I completed it in 4 days. And I should say that it was quite the expirience.
    I rated The game by 4 out of 10, I really like 4/10 of this game. You may say, I loved it. Gameplay, graphics, all of it worked greatly with immersion, with empathy for Ellie. I went in this crusade for revenge. But, when somebody made you play as the most hateful charecter in the game, and somebody tried to manipulate you to love her, then I just snapped, all gameplay went to abyss of unpleasant time consuming event.
    And I was stunned how much of game perception depended of empathy for character. And that's why I write this review.
    I think, that making Abbie/Lev pair an analog of Joel/Ellie pair is not that good of an idea. Becouse Abbie killed Joel, Jessie, almost killed pregnant Dina (not by accident by the way), and all of it opposed to heartfull relationships of player with Joel/Ellie.
    And result of this poor plot choice is hours of gameplay, I hardly crawled through. May be story of itself is great, characters arcs, redemption, even representation is here, but that didn't work for me couse of existence of the first game. Funny fact that LoU2 would not work without first game either.
    So I really wanted just tell that when you're making the game so mush immersive on already existed fanbase, you should understand what players want more: deep dramatic story or justice for their beloved characters.
    I am for the lattest.

    This game is really amazing. I don't know why it gets so much hate. This game is touching and beautiful. I wouldn't call it a sequel though. It's a separate story in a world of the first game. But still it is really worth playing.
