This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you love TLOU because of the heartwarming feeling that the game gives you, then please don't get involved with TLOU2. If you are looking for generic gameplay, fantastic graphic, and some spice in the storyline (but still a wired choice), then this might be the game for you.
For those who don't want to read a full review, you can look at my short summary here (or the full summary below):
TLOU gives you violence, lies, and heartwarming feeling that emerge through the main characters' relationship.
TLOU2 gives you violence, lies, (questionable) moral dilemma trick, and sad and gloomy story.

    ===========SPOILER AHEAD===========
First, let's look at gameplay. I have to tell you guys that I didn't enjoy the gameplay of the first game. As you encounter the same enemy over and over again and your tactic revolved around sneak behind them and stealth kill, then re-establish your stealth again. There are some shooting in the game depending on how good your resource management is, but the gunplay itself feels clumsy to me. However, the game does provide you a vast variety of environments in each chapter as you go through the story but they don't change any aspect of the main tactic. I get bored in just 2 or 3 hours of the game and just wanted to rush to the next cutscene as fast as possible. TLOU2 still has the same gameplay with little to no refinement. For me, the overall experience of gameplay would be 4/10.

    ------- Graphic/Sound effect and ost/Voice actor -------
We don't have to talk about any of this topic because they are AWESOME (10/10).

    ------- Story summary/Climax/Take away -------
As you may see the game tries to get you to sympathize with both characters, shows you that the revenge only causes more damage to you and people around you, and forgiving can be a hard choice and even if you took the choice you still have to live with sorrow. Which might sound great for a game-takeaway right?
Well, the thing that annoyed me is I don't understand why ND just ditch the plot that gives a heartwarming and good feeling (even though the world is cruel and violent) to the player in TLOU and changes it to a gloomy and sad storyline. I know this is subjective, but I did set my expectation for a whole different thing (Nevertheless, who am I to judge? It's a ND's game, not my game).
Finally, the reason why I give this game a 5/10 game.
As a story-driven game, the story itself should be the most important element. However, the ending, take-away, or whatever you might call it doesn't prove or justify any moral question. Because even if you (As Abby or Ellie) spare life of a villain to prove that there are some good deeds in the world (or in the character), it still doesn't hold the weight against the whole story. Let's think about it, we all know that every character in this game is evil right? They have to kill many other humans just to get what? Medicine, information, resources, you name it, or even just to cross the bridge. And they will likely continue their killing as the story goes by (or in TLOU3). Showing the player just one or two characters' revenge-forgiveness cycle just doesn't seem to make any sense in a game that you have to kill to proceed with the story. I'm pretty sure that all the people in the post-apocalypse world have their own "good" reason for their action and there will by Abby2, Abby3, Abby4, and many more. For me, to choose such a plot just to set up a cheap moral dilemma trick or make an ending seem awesome to some audience proves that the writer is very incompetent. He/She might get blind from how good he/she might think the story is, then overlooked or unable to realize the main gameplay or the whole world of the game.
My brother said to me after we finished the game: What's the point of spending a 20-ish hour in this revenge plot as there are many more to come for revenge.
Me: Drove off for trade-in TLOU2.

Lastly, This game can never be a 10/10 (do you think the witcher3 is a joke?) neither 0/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

The game begins to be boring in the second half, while playing for Abby. I was expecting another from the game. Open world is not open (center of Seattle). For me, the game ended on day three in Seattle for Ellie. Everything that happens after (Farm) is not even like The last of us. For me, 1 part remains the best.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I gave 9 points to the first game. I like first part and it was great experience. But the story in this game broke my heart..in bad way. I'm disappointed, upset..even more. The First 10 hours of it were brilliant, yeah the story of Ellie is interesting, strange and beautiful. But..we have a huge "But" and it is the story of another character. I understand why Druckmann wanted make such a story what he wanted to show to players. In my opinion he failed, he couldn't make me love this new character(and as i see thousands of other players), for many reasons. Why is Abby such a huge piece of meat, such stupid girl with ridiculous behavior. Right from the start of the game the authors show us that she and her friends are just brutal maniacs, who want to attack Jackson, further they kill Ellie's best friend. And after that Druckmann want me to play for this piece of **** for 15 hours, without strong plot and without a normal explanation why i must play for that character. After these 15 hours of humiliation i also had to strangle my favorite character(i mean when Abby strangles Ellie and i must push buttons to do it). Why?(( Eventually i even can't get revenge for death of Joel (also my favorite hero). So I hate the second part of this game. I can give 10 points for good graphics, music, atmosphere, beautiful views, marvelous mechanics and brutal and nice killing of enemies, 9 points for the first part of this game (journey of Ellie, Dina and other her friends) and 1 point for the second part and playing for Abby.
In total I give it 5 points. This is the most disgusting game for ps4 in my opinion. I wish Sony hadn't created this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Larga vida a The last of us Parte 1 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The reason why i have given this game such a low score is due to the false advertising at the teasing of this game where they blatantly used Joel in their trailers making the whole last of us community believe that he would join Ellie's journey but they instead swap these cinematics with Jesse, which is just a another way they destroyed their own reputation. Additionally, the only critic that give the best response with constructive criticism is IGN Japan, the gameplay of this game is fantastic but the story is the heart and soul of the game and that's completely destroyed by politics which the last game did not blatantly push in your face. i can see why Naughty dog lost a large amount of its employees one of my speculations is probably because the writer and director Neil Druckmann can not take any constructive criticism but would rather call you a bigot or would just rather just take all the positive reviews. The game purposely wants to do a parallel between Ellie and Abby but it just does not sick together its just too forced and ruins the flow of the story. Finally, Abby kills Joel even though he saves her life without hesitation but when i comes to Lev and Yara they save her life but hesitate at the start but she spares them and helps them at the end, even though they have probably killed countless numbers of the WLF and her friends this is a plot hole which makes no sense at all. It would probably be better if they just left the last of us franchise alone instead of destroying it with every political statement. Expand

Story is a 2/10 and that is me being very generous. Killing off Joel is very disrespectful to the character and the players. I don't have a problem with having him die at some point but the way they did it was bad. If they just made last of us part 2 about Abby and Lev's relationship , I think the story would've been a lot better. They could've taken this game to so many directions, but they simply chose the wrong one. A major disappointment after waiting for 7 years. I would've gave this game a 1/10 if I was reviewing it based only on story. But I had "fun" with the gameplay, only. Jump scares and action was great...I don't think I would play a Last of Us part 3 if they decide to continue the story, Because I really don't have any connection with Abby and based on the ending, I don't care about Ellie as well. It was done poorly. RIP Joel... Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really can't give this game more than a 5 I really can't. To kill of such an important character in the first two hours was just...
The fact that Joel got killed with a golfstick makes it even worse. The false advertisment, the story, the ending, everything about this story sucked. What? Ellie wants to get revenge on Abby and in the end she doesn't even do it. But before that she kills, pregnant woman, innocent people etc.
The character development just sucks, honestly. In the first game, Joel was this very cautious guy, who didn't trust anybody and now he just gets in a room with people he doesn't know and even tells them that they can restock at their base. It just does not make sense. Honestly, at some point I felt forced finish it, because I already bought it.
The game jjst didn't maje any sense. It just wasn't fun at all. The fact that in the end of the game everybody leaves Ellie and she is alone is just... depressing. That's all I can say about this game.

A ground breaking moment in video game story telling that has since set the bar for all other video games and there hasn’t been a video game since then that has come close to it in my opinion. Including this game. This game will not only live in its predecessors shadow forever but it will always be remembered, by me at least, as a hideous black mark left upon the face of what could have easily been one of the greatest video game franchises of all time. Being such a die hard fan when the leaks happened I naturally championed and defended the game as much as I possibly could for a month or so before it came out and unfortunately I’ll be eating all those words and then some. This game isn’t “woke” trash like it was made out to be. What this game actually is, from the story perspective, is a completely convoluted, contrived, ass backwards mess. This game was simply put together wrong. We are constantly asked to disband our belief through out the entire game for the sake of a story that is sub par at best. We are introduced to new characters through out the entire game and are asked to care about them just to have them die at an instant just so we have a route to the next section of this misguided mess of a game. The characters that return from the first game all act COMPLETELY out of character throughout the entirety of the game and on top of that the writing of these once beloved characters are treated with such tasteless disregard that by the end of the game I could not stand Ellie. The characters we got in the first are not what you get in the second. For what reason? Because revenge is bad? So in order to get that message across to us you have to completely rewrite established characters in to senseless, soulless, mindless killing machines? And then there’s Abby. I actually liked Abby unlike most people. The problem I have with her is more of the garbage pacing this game has to do with her rather than her herself. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this was put together completely backwards. I give Naughty Dog credit for trying to do something different but I also shame them for falling on their face and doing a complete disservice to the franchise and the fans. Yes, this is the best looking video game I have ever seen and I feel sorry for all of the extremely talented people who spent years putting this together (outside of the writers) and yes, there was parts of the story I did enjoy and the game play is good too. But you can only ask so much from your fans while you spit on them and the characters they love for 25 hours. Expand

Great graphics, some nice new touches, some nerve gripping moments but ultimately all drowned out by a game that has put politics and a politic view of the director on gender equality and feminism centre stage at the sake of a video game. The game could of gone a thousand ways but ambushed its fans with a misleading trailer and the death of a major character two hours in for the political message. The heart breaking. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Alot of people who played this when it first came out 7 years ago on playstation 3 couldn't have asked for a better story driven game. That however is not the case with The last of us part 2. It has already been said so many times but how do you mess up so badly on a game that had potential to go so many different ways than what it got. I didn't look at any spoilers at all until after I was done with the game and by then I understood why people were upset, some maybe a bit more than others but I understood. What annoyed me the most throughout the game was that everything seemed somewhat predictable, the banter that Joel and Ellie had in the first game is non-existent in this game with Dina and Jesse it all felt so unnatural and you just didn't feel anything for these characters as you did with for example Sam and Henry in the first game. I actually had to stop playing for a few mins when Sam and Henry died because I was genuinely shocked in the way it was executed. The way Joel died was pathetic and stupid and I was honestly left emotionless with his death, I was in such huge disbelief that they killed him off in such a pathetic way. Hell i'm still in disbelief about the entire game and that this is what we got after waiting for 7 years. We didn't need to play as Abby for 10+ hours, you could've taken that time and put in some more screentime with Joel and Ellie. So why is it still a 5/10, well because I do believe that gameplay and graphics matter to a certain degree and the story was bad there isn't any doubt about it but it still made me feel a few things along the way. There were some great moments where naughty dog really managed to capture the horror aspect of the game. I was constantly sitting and asking myself ''when do the stalkers from the first game show up ?'' and they didn't let me down there. The infected in the game is a solid upgrade from the first game and combat overall felt good. However with that said what we got after waiting for 7 years could've been done alot better and it really makes me sad as a massive fan to the last of us 1 to say, we probably would've been better off without having to witness this story. Last of us part 2 is a marvel on technological level. Every minute of it on my screen looked astonishing. Details are over the charts. It might be the most "quality" game ever. I liked the half part of the story too. I love Joel but he had to go. He was a villain in the first game and he still was a villain in the second game. He doomed humanity for his selfish agenda. So no i am not mad about Joel dying in a gruesome way. I am mad about naught dogs trying to lecture us with its agenda. I dont play games to listen to your agenda no matter which which part you are serving. It is a 10/10 game but i am giving it a 5 so that naughty dogs might see that we are not buying their products to listen to their real life politics.

The game graphically and playably is a delight if you liked the gameplay of the first last of this you will like why it is improved, if we only told all the factors of the game except the story it would be a remarkable or outstanding game but they have screwed up in the story according to my opinion what is the backbone of the game.

    Spoilers
when abby kills joel you are shocked and in my case I was speechless for a few seconds in disbelief, almost a tear fell it was a hasty death but correct by the way they kill him, as a player of the first I felt the elly's revenge and he was elly during the game why he wanted the same thing he wanted revenge throughout the game you enjoy it has its flaws but they are trifles you enjoy the death of each wolf and halfway through the game when it only remains to kill abby discovers them (in one In my opinion, a little absurd way, why does Elly forget the map in the last place where she killed, so to speak, an objective of revenge and Abby finds everything indicated where they have gone and where they are but my question is who the hell does she put where she lives in a map with a giant circle) after discovering them kill jesse and there increases your desire for revenge. You go to play with abby but throughout the whole stretch of the game you play the only thing I enjoyed was seeing the disasters and deaths what we have caused in the game when we were playing with elly and making abby suffer and seeing the ways how she dies for me not his story interests me what I want is to kill you why you have killed my father (Joel) and my friend (jesse) and at one point he shoots abby at Tommy (leaves him lame and blind) but the worst thing that you fight with abby against elly (a one of the things that I enjoy the most is how elly killed abby when he played) abby wins and spares elly's life you keep on wanting revenge but they don't give it to you you're pissed off as a player but you say to be frustrated but it's over but they don't make a ellipsis of a couple of months elly appears living with his girlfriend on a farm comes tommy tells him where this abby they give you the hope of a revenge what are you going to fulfill the initiation to abby they capture a group and have her crucified on the beach Elly saves them fight in e he walk elly loses a couple of fingers on the way with the fight with abby but he spares elly abby's life after that elly returns to the farm his girlfriend has not left her and he starts playing the guitar elly but he can't because he A few fingers are missing what is one of the things that Joel taught him and he loses it to me which has shown me that the venzanga works for some and nothing for others.

The scenario of this game is awesomely bad, so bad that even the main purpose of this scenario, give a moral on how vengeance is bad and the cycle of hate, doesn't work at all
Abby and his friend doesn't have any kind of regret or remorse for what they did, not a single instant they regret what they did to Joel even at the end when Abby saw that all his friend ended up killed
And even if it's not for Joel, none of them regret the pain they cause to Ellie, Tommy and all people at Jackson, the familly they broke etc
How the **** you are supposed to do a credible moral about "Vengeance is bad" and make Abby and his friend a bunch of trash people wihout any regret?
And Ellie forgiving Abby came out of nowhere, doesn't make any freaking sense, she never receive any education from Joel about "Vengeance is bad", kill hundred people to get Abby included her friend, Abby is the one who kill Joel, she even kill Jesse, half-kill Tommy and almost kill Dina but, Ellie forgive her, after a **** flashback
Really? Nothing work it's writing like ****
And can we speak about how the story telling is all over the place, even a 5 year old kid will do better than this
Are we supposed to hate Abby? If that case why did we play her with her friend for 10 hours
And if we was supposed to have empathy, why did we play her after she kill Joel?
What kind of non sense is this?
By the way honestly that wouldn't have change anything for me because the WLF included Abby and his friend are a bunch of uninteresting trash humans, who doesn't aknowledge they are trash by finding excuse for the atrocity they did and do
And let's finish by the death of Joel, something awesomely out of character because neither him or Tommy would have follow a bunch of Stranger in the house and put themself in a ambush position.
That scenario is so forced and awesomely bad, didn't even success to give his morality
And i will stop right here for this because outside of this
Graphic and bgm deserve a 18/20, the best of his generation for the graphic for now until Ghost of tsushima may overcome it or at least match it
The world lore is still very realistic with the down fall of humanity 16/20
    The gameplay is fair 15/20
But the scenario, got a 3 or a 4, only because of the flashback with Ellie and Joel.
And because it's show one character in another light, Marlène, in the first one she was shown in a bad way, the person who had decided to sacrifice Ellie
In TLOU2 we saw that she didn't want it but give up under the pressure of Abby and his **** dad who his by the way the worst doctor i never saw
Because brain doesn't produced any immune defense, if the cordyceps mutated it's was because of Ellie defense system so they should have search in the spinal fluid, plasma, thyroide etc
Make no freaking sense to kill her for her brain
Any 13,25 should be my final rating, but a give a minus 2 for another thing
The hypocrysy of Sony on the censured of sexual content, when every freaking Japenese game got censured for very questionable reason at best or totally unnecessary reason in worst case
And in this game we got 2 freaking sex scene and the second one absolutely disturbing between Abby and Manny
And we saw Ellie half nude too after she kill Nora
Get lost Sony ****ing bunch of hypocrytical SJW with a two speed censured, really became a good US compagny, not Japenese anymore

    Story: 0

Overall Experience: 5/10 (because story is 50% contributor to the overall experience)

The story seems like someone had all the pages of the masterfully written story and had accidentally dropped the pages in the wind and never knew how to put them back in order again, as the pages had no numbers. So they made the game story based on the randomly shuffled pages. Firstly, why the hell did they have to kill Joel? I know at the end of the day its “their” character and story, so they can do whatever they like. But, why? How could they possibly think it was a good idea to kill the most lovable character at the beginning of the game in such a brutally unfair manner? Especially right after he saved that stupid girl’s life from imminent death? Thats an intentional trauma the writers exposed all the fans to. At that point, I was so traumatized as though someone had murdered a real person that I knew in front of me. The only reason why I reluctantly continued playing was to make sure that the stupid murderous **** gets ripped to shreds by the time I get to her. It would have at least served justice, even though it would never bring back Joel again.

    How foolish was I...

They actually make you play the character you want to kill in the worse way possible and force feed you sugar and candy, hoping to make you care?????? WTF?! I absolutely hated every second of it. I did not want to play her at all. Isn't making you forcefully play something that makes you unhappy and uncomfortable practically mind rape?

I dont care if she was as innocent as mother tressa... she killed someone I loved. All I care about now is to make sure that she dies in the worst way humanly possible!

But no. They don’t even give you that least amount of satisfaction. They make YOU hurt the last remaining character you care about without any other choices and then expect you to applaud when out beloved character randomly decides to let her live (WITHOUT US HAVING ANY CHOICE IN IT)?!?

What was the point of this?

It might as well have been a film, since the player has no control over any of the main events in the game. It seems that the game played us and we paid for it with our time, money and broken hearts.

But the main reason why I loved and still do love the game, was because of the interactions between Ellie and Joel. How Joel found in his heart to love again despite what other people did to his daughter and how Ellie found a person whom she could trust to always be there for her.

I never found any love for the fireflies as they wanted to kill a child for a vaccine that was not even guaranteed to work, and how the hell would they even deliver said vaccine or produce it in a post apocalyptic world? Anyway, the second game is beautiful beyond belief and I am certain it was made for the ps5 first and foremost and that we will see the true magnificent visuals when that console arrives.

But stunning visuals only do so much and even if the game succeeds with representation and also have some really intense action scenes, the story is boring and really not even close to the first game at all. The story is a **** and I am disappointed and I never could have dreamed that the story would be so bad. Yes, the story is dark and gritty but that is also more or less all it is, there are no light to search for when the one is in the darkness. The ending is a catastrophe and I am certain most people will not be happy or even content with it.

I will be honest as I do not think this game is a zero nor is it a ten. People giving the game a zero are but hurt little spoiled brats and people giving it a ten are virtue signaling SJWs. I have nothing against any ethnicity, sexual orientation or religion and the game is not bad because of representation, it is bad despite of representation.

I would give it a 5 out of 10 because it is a gorgeous looking game with gameplay that is ok but not as good as one would expect after such a long time between the first game and this game. The story is literally trash and seems to been have written by someone that is both blind and deaf when it comes to have a feeling for the soul that was present in the first game. Do not buy if you loved the first game for the story, buy it if you really love the gameplay from the first and would love to kill hundreds of people and mushroom-people.

This is a first for me and I guess the only reason why I feel compelled to do so is in the naive hope that the The Last of Us 2’s developers will somehow read this. Naughty Dog, a developer who I have loved for the vast majority of my life, from the early days of Crash Bandicoot, through to the Jak and Daxter series, the Uncharted games, and of course, The Last of Us. I would love for them to listen. There are many things things I could say about this game; both positive and negative, but to write a long-winded review of these things seems futile considering the following two aspects, which ultimately for me make the game a colossal failure.

1.) The developers forgot what medium they were working with.

If you were to ask any other game developer what their main aims and ambitions were, what would they say? What would their ultimate goal be?

To create games that the audience love and want to play time and time again. This is not the case for the developers of The Last of Us part II. If you were to ask Naughty Dog what their main aim is as a game developer and what they wanted the audience to feel and experience from playing The Last of Us Part II, it is quite obvious that they wished players to feel heartbreak, devastation, depression, shock, anger, and misery. Why would anyone enjoy playing a game that makes them feel this way? Why would anyone want to experience it ever again?

Schindler’s List is an amazing movie, a masterpiece. Do I like it? Yes. Did I love it? No. It is not meant to be enjoyed, it is meant to be endured. But we still feel admiration for Schindler’s selfless and brave acts of kindness in a cruel world. The subject matter works as part of the medium of film: you have 1 hour 30 mins to express an idea, it is temporary; not meant to be repeated and the audience aren’t spending a substantial $60 to experience it. The fundamental definition of a game is “an activity that one engages in for amusement or fun.” The Last of Us Part II simply does not meet this criteria. Conrad McCarthy’s ‘The Road,’ which serves as significant inspiration for this series, has all of the same themes, but has something that is painfully absent in The Last of Us Part II - hope. There is light in the darkness for Man and Boy: “We are carrying the fire...” There is no light in The Last of Us Part II, no fire, nothing to fill me with hope or to make me want to continue playing. Nothing to love or to admire. It verges on being completely soulless.

2.) It doesn’t give what the audience wants.

With any sequel, the first point of discussion should be about what the absolute bare minimum the audience will want the game to have. I can say this without hesitation that EVERYONE wanted a continuation of Joel and Ellie’s story. Joel and Ellie IS The Last of Us.

The Master Chief IS Halo. Link IS Zelda. Solid Snake IS Metal Gear Solid. Drake IS Uncharted. The Last of Us Part II fell at the first hurdle because this simple and painfully obvious requirement was not met. If you didn’t know that the main reason why the audience loved your original game was the deep and personal relationship between Joel and Ellie, and you didn’t think to continue this despite developing and directing the original, then I don’t really know what else to say. No more subverting expectations, going against the grain, doing things differently or ‘thinking out the box.’ Just give the people what they want. You can still take calculated risks and create something that everybody will love.

As you’ve probably gathered, I did not enjoy this game. Please play the game to make a decision for yourself, only know that I no longer feel devastated, depressed, shocked, angry or miserable about The Last of Us Part II.

    I just feel empty.

I’ve never actually felt the need or ever wanted to write a review for a game before.. but after finishing the last of us part II last night I felt a sad sense of relief and emptiness. I want to start off by saying everyone has there own opinions and rightfully so. Love the game or hate the game it’s just nice to have passion about something.

I started this game off already seeing very many leaks that I did not really try to avoid because I’m weak! I had a very negative mind set after see the leaks and was praying what I saw wasn’t real. Going into the game I tried to prepare myself hoping I can find some enjoyment, then it happened... the part everyone is so broken up about! I was pissed and felt betrayed by the company I have grown to love so much. But I trudged on hoping for some sort of real meaningful reason for this decision. I had many highs and lows playing as Ellie, from the many gorgeous sceneries of Seattle to some of the scarier parts like dealing with the scars. The game is beautiful and a lot of passion was put into its world. The soundtrack pulled everything together wonderfully and Ashley had some amazing moments singing and playing the guitar. Everything lead up to a moment where I thought I’d finally come around and it would all makes sense in the end. But it didn’t.. very quickly you are thrown in and force to try and side with Abby (which I really was not about in the beginning). Her story is one of many I’m sure in the world of the last of us that have very bad things happen, I mean it is a post apocalyptic world and nothing is ever going to go as we want it. It was interesting and at times fun and very scary to see the way her story played out. But there was one thing that really stuck in my mind as my time went on with Abby. It was that this game didn’t feel like the last of us anymore. It felt so much like a stand alone game like uncharted lost legacy. It was nice but I bought the last of us to play the last of us.. through all my time I was really just trying to get back to the moment we were all waiting for. I did come around to Abby eventually more so just kind of understanding that she just like everyone else has there reasons for doing things. But I wanted to get back to playing the game I bought. Finally I get back to the moment I was waiting for hoping for a meaningful and satisfying conclusion to what both of these character have been working towards for 20+ hours. But that did not happen, instead we got a very out of character and misleading End. So we thought..

As this point in the game I’m frustrated and confused but still trying to understand where there going with the game. We see things left off on a higher note with Ellie and Dina on a beautiful farm. But it was very short lived.. out of character and misleading again.. we are yet again sent on our mission to continue what we started this journey to do. Somewhat saddened that we left what would have been a good ending and a “somewhat” satisfying conclusion to this story, I set off to finish what was intended of this game. Finally coming to a conclusion after 25 hours of play time we were mislead once again in thinking we might have some sort of relief.. but once nothing happened and you’re left with the question of why?? Why did I did all of this? What was the point of it? I’ve been trying to figure out what the point of it all was but still feel that there was no rewarding aspect. No actual conclusion. The last scene of the game left me saddened. I don’t feel that there was any care or respect put towards these characters.. I felt cheated and felt that naughty dog through Ellie and Joel in the mud. FOR WHAT?? I don’t believe that every game needs a sequel and I feel this is proof of that.. This next part is going to sound really stupid and I’m sure I’ll get a lot of **** for it.. this may not make sense but the game is a disastrous master piece.. it’s very beautiful and made me feel a lot of things most games don’t make you feel. It will definitely stay in my mind for a long time But it issues are so huge that it hurts it. In other words the best parts of the game are so amazing there masterful but the worst part feel so so low..

Random other factions are forced into the story without any real development that end up being pointless other than just pushing the narrative. By the end of the game I no longer had any real emotional ties to any of the characters involved. This game is essentially like playing a TWD version of the last episode of GOT.

That being said, graphics are impressive and very clean. Game play is solid just like the first game but with little nuanced differences. If there is a third installment, I will not buy/play it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After replaying the TLOU1 and then getting into the sequel its more then a little disappointing when the story takes a turn for the worst. I knew that Joel was going to die before even going into the game and Ellie being LGTBQ+ wasn't and issue either. I was looking forward to seeing Ellie take a darker turn then how we knew her in the first game and being able to see her kind of take a path similar to Joel's when he was younger but that isn't what was given to the audience. From all the trailers and teasers it seems like Ellie has changed drastically and that shes on this path of revenge on people who killed a father-like figure to her, even though her and Joel weren't in the best place (relationship wise) she still didn't want him to die and at first that's what the story gave us. For most of the game you do play as Ellie and you see her hunt down Abby's friends but she barely ever gets to enact her revenge on any of them. Tommy gets there before her and kills some guys which is okay but doesn't feel great for Ellie then she gets captured and would have died if Dina didn't save her and while she did Kill a guy here it still didn't feel rewarding for the player it was just an "oh sh*t I have to save Dina" moment. I will say that the chase scene for Nora was great and thrilling even Ellie's first encounters with the scars was intense. However, when Ellie tries to question Mel and Owen it seems very sloppy and I know Ellie has never done anything like that before so its reasonable that she would be sloppy it just doesn't feel like the Ellie the audience was shown. I would have preferred a much darker version of Ellie where she does have some knowledge and practice at torturing people for information thanks to Joel and instead of Tommy getting to kill people it should've been just Ellie with Dina alongside her watching as Ellie spirals down into a pit of anger and rage and blood-lust, it would make Dina's character and relationship with Ellie a bit more impactful and important to the story. Having Dina watch Ellie turn into something she can't see herself being with anymore and then it becomes a story where Ellie wants revenge but at what cost? she loses Dina and her friends because she so consumed in her rage and hatred for Abby's friends but that wasn't what we got. After Ellie gives Mel and Owen, Abby hunts her down and injures Tommy and kills Jesse but before getting to the first showdown your forced to place as Abby for the next 10 hours. While I understand the contrast they were trying to make with Abby and the first game it all just falls apart. You can't force your audience to feel bad or love a character after seeing all the horrible things they've done, its like taking Harry Potter and forcing the viewer to feel bad or care about Voldemort after seeing all the terrible things he's done to people it just doesn't work that way. The story should have began with Abby which would of forced the player to get used to new characters and maybe liking some of them without having the knowledge of these people being the ones who kill Joel. It was very hard to play the game and be forced to play as Abby during the first fight with Ellie it didn't feel good or fun to play. It doesn't even make you think Abby is a good person, she would have killed Dina knowing that she was pregnant when Ellie had no clue that Mel was pregnant, she only found out after killing her and Owen. The story focuses so much on trying to make you feel bad for Abby that you question why Ellie is even in the game, it makes you feel like it isn't even her story anymore. Even the ending leaves a bad taste in the mouths of the audience when after not being able to let go of Joel and everything that has happened she once again sets out to get her revenge but doesn't even get that and then loses Dina over nothing. Abby got her revenge and lived granted her friends are dead now she still took out her revenge against someone that killed her dad. Ellie set out for revenge lost her friend and even later on her girlfriend and for what? Ellie didn't take out her revenge she went and killed 4 people that only traveled along with Abby, she didn't kill the target of her anger while Abby did. The message of the story feels like revenge for Abby is good while revenge for Ellie is bad, why? That's my issue with the game. Overall is just didn't leave the player feeling like they accomplished anything. I would of liked for Ellie to have killed Abby and lost Dina because she set out and took her revenge even when Dina told her to stay then that makes the player really feel the weight of the decision Ellie made. She lost the person she loved because she went to kill Abby but this isn't what happened and the story just fell short for me in the end. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the original Last of Us, and Ellie's spin off prequel, but this sequel destroyed the IP for me. It wasn't because of what happened to Joel, or how it happened. It wasn't for the progressive stuff (I loved that side of Ellie's back-story.) And it wasn't the revenge arc, or the sudden appearance of an omniscient and omnipotent antagonist who was only written into the game to force a narrative. My issue with the game is how after Joel is removed from the story we are forced to play as the person who removes him.

We are also forced to watch some pointless sex scene with that character, one that no body asked for (and thankfully Japan censored.) We are also forced to later kill that monster's dog as Ellie, even though we were told we wouldn't have to kill the dog. The ten hours we play as the antagonist were a total waste, and did nothing other than make the open wound of Joel's uncharacteristic demise fester over. I would have given this game an 8.1 if we had the option to skip playing as the antagonist, but because they forced that on us, after such a heart-wrenching moment no less, I can't even fathom giving such a high-score.

As stated above, it was fine how Joel was removed, but what wasn't fine is my time being wasted playing a character I wanted revenge on. That moment was enough for me to get into character to want revenge, I didn't need her story, or elaboration to make her into a human, she was marked from that moment. All of that said, I loved the parts with Ellie. She should have taken up the entire screen time of this game. The graphics were amazing, the romance and setting were amazing, the story was sub par with some cringe lines, but overall most parts of the game, minus forced player swap and lack of choices, were amazing.

Speaking of choices, the ending was horrible. I know choices are hard to put into games, but giving the player options is what makes a story driven game great. A few examples are The Witcher, Mass Effect, and Telltale The Walking Dead. In the Witcher (1-3) every choice changed the world, and it drove you to make new choices for different playthroughs. The choices in Mass Effect sculpted the world all the way to the third game, and then it sort of dropped the ball, but it was still good. In Telltale every road lead to the same ending, but you wanted to explore every path to see how the journey was different. Instead of giving us some agency, even if it was a false choice, the game lead us down a narrow path with spikes on the wall and a gun to our back. We were told we didn't have to kill the dog, but instead we killed the dog in a QtE. We were forced to exact revenge on everyone around us, but when it came to the big bad we "chose" peace.

Realistically this game should have been split up into two parts, but it's too late for that now. We are stuck with the one ending we have, regardless of how bitter it is for the player... because lets be honest, Joel was no saint, he would never of spared anyone if it meant keeping the ones he loves safe.

All of that said, I originally mentioned how I would give this game an 8.1/ 10. That would have been the score if the game didn't force you to play as the antagonist. The reason it isn't higher is because of the lack of choices and cringe dialog. Even at it's finest this game is not a 10/10, that is a score only a select few games truly deserve and handing it out to the hot new game of the season spoils the prize. On the flip side, this game is also not a 0/10. The antagonist did rune a lot of the game, but that is the role of a foil in a story. The graphics, game-play, and sub par story still bring the game up well past a 5.0, but spitting in the face of loyal fans who have patiently waited seven years for a sequel is no way to earn good faith for future projects. Personally, after the drama surrounding this game I will likely never buy another Naughty Dog game, at least not new. I wanted this game to be great, and it could have been, but it feels like the core story was lost during the seven years of crunch. For my final score, I give this game a 5.3, but since I can only give whole numbers the score will have to be a 5/10. I hope Naughty Dog learns from the backlash and remembers who they make games for (ps, it's for the fans.) If they add an option to skip the ten hours of forced antagonist play, I will gladly boost the score up to an 8.1.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To be honest,
Joel acts so much out of character.
He was always cautious and never trusted anyone new, understandably considering how Sarah died in part 1.
He would never put himself in such a vulnerable state among people he just met.
I understand why he had to go however I feel like it could have been done better without disrespecting the character.
It feels shallow and a cheap way to get people to feel the need for vengeance.

However, if there is justice in vengeance.
Then such justice will only breed more vengeance.
Thus triggering an eternal cycle of hatred.
This is the flaw of every revenge plot.

Ellie takes too long to feel the guilt of her actions to the point where it seems comical.
Right after murdering countless people to get there.
The game betrays the original characters to fit the narrative and introduces new ones that no one cares about.

People played the first game for the relationship between Ellie and Joel and the search for light even in the darkest of worlds.
Ellie and Joel were not heroes or the good guys, they were survivors.
This game betrays all of that for a story of unearned vengeance against characters we don't care about , then the game tries to do a spin on perspective and asks us to buy into their drama.
It's a narrative disaster which could have done way better with some proper order and storyline structure

otherwise, The game is a technical marvel and is gorgeous in every sense of the word.

    SPOILERS ALERT

I never wrote a review in my life, I never wanted to go on the internet and talk about a game or how a particular game changed me for better or worse. But this time I could not hold back the sadness that this game carries.

In the first game you build love between Joel and Ellie. I ask you now my dear player, if someone took Ellie from Joel, if someone dared to hurt Ellie, do you know what Joel would do? If you played the first game you know what he would do because he did what had to be done to save her, and in the second game he says to Ellie that if GOD gave him another chance to change things, he would do everything the same, exactly the same way, and with those words at the end of the conversation he is crying because he knows that he is not perfect but he loves Ellie and nothing else matters.

I know it, the fans know it, Ellie knows it because when Joel was already dead and Ellie was talking to Tommy, she said if it were any of them, Joel would already be halfway to Seattle to settle things. This game has no replay factor, do you want to play for another 30 hours watching Joel being massacred, tortured with golf club on his head? do you want to see people spitting in the face of Joel while he dies? Do you want to remember the face of Uncle Tommy after surviving a gunshot to the head asking for your help in your home while you refuse to avenge Joel? Do you want to see Ellie for 20 hours passing through the valley of the shadow of death feeling guilty for not forgiving Joel and the day she forgave him, the next day they kill him ?? do you want to see Joel's last scene being him crying ?? Want to spend another 10 hours playing with Joel's killer ?? Want to play a game where they lied in the trailers making animations that do not exist in the game suggesting an adventure between Joel and Ellie ???

The last of us part 2 founded its bizarre success on lies. Towards the end, the director still has the courage to take Abby and make her crucified, tortured, starving, having the skin practically leaving her body by being trapped in the sun in the middle of several bodies for when you arrive at your destination with Ellie and get her revenge, feel like **** and feel guilty about wanting to fight her. The fight starts with Ellie passing the knife several times on Abby's body, who doesn't have the strength to even stand, the director puts you in a position for you to feel trash and feel like a bastard even at the time of your revenge, keep putting flashbacks of Joel's disfigured face to create hatred and in the final scene you lost 30 hours and nothing happened, Ellie let Abby go and still lost 2 fingers, even the damn guitar she can't play anymore. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't find it right to kill Abby in those conditions, I wanted a fair fight between Abby in her ordinary state and Ellie in her ordinary state, Ellie calling the Joel's killer out of her boat and saying that it would end there once and for all. Have you seen john wick? Imagine him reaching the end of the film's story, after having killed hundreds of people, finding the killer who killed his dog and saying that he will let him go because revenge doesn’t lead to anything. The last of Us part 2 has no replay factor, unless you want to spend another 25 hours watching everyone you know die and in the end do not avenge the death of the guy who loved you most in all the last of us story .
So far, Uncle Tommy's face has not left my head in disappointment when he finds out that he can no longer count on Ellie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll start off by saying what I did like. The graphics were breathtaking, there's a lot of environments that look beautiful and astonishing, great work to the cgi animators, mocap workers etc. The actual fighting in the gameplay was fairly good with little to no bugs (that I've experienced). But now to what I disliked. Although the gameplay was alright, it got very repetitive after a certain point thinking of the fighting sequences more of a chore than fun. The characters have apparently had off screen character development because the characters from the first game are completely different. Ellie is now ruthless, Joel gives away his name to strangers casually. But that's not all, the characters in this game don't even go by their own logic, as if they don't know who they are. Abby was saved by Joel and kills him. Later on she protects 2 kids because they saved her life. Not to mention her father died a quick and painless death with a bullet to the head, yet she abused and tortures her father's killer. Would definitely not play this game again or recommend it to anyone. If it was a stand alone zombie film or game, then I would give it a 6 or 7/10 Expand

The game is quite fun to play, the animations, graphics, sound design are top notch, with me being personally fond of ellie in this game and filling in some the blanks of what happened after the first game. But when characters that seem important to the story turn out to just be set pieces it isn't very satisfying and playing as the second main character seems more annoying to me than anything in the game

SPOILER REVIEW: the beginning of the game seems nice at a moments glance but as it continues it picks up to much pace with Joel's death seeming very rushed and forced for the plot, when he died i was more disappointed than sad. The rest of the game with dina and ellie is fun i like the chemistry between them and how it feels more real than some games which is a welcome addition. Then comes the part in which you play as Abby, Joel's murderer. Abby is unlikable from the get go as should be of no suprise since she killed a beloved main character from the first game, her only redeeming quality being the friendship formed with lev who is much more likable than abby. The ending seemed like a slap in the face, with ellie about to kill abby and then says 'nah nevermind' and they all go home. With ellie being left completely alone like she said she was afraid of happening in the first game and with abby having a happier ending than ellie, with abby being able to start over with lev as a person, but ellie is just left depressed and alone. Overall the game is great for its presentation but is not so great for it's substance in storytelling being more disappointing of a game than anything. Again, this is my opinion.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off I just want to say never have I ever in my life been so angry to leave a review on a game. There are so many choices in the story that were made that literally butchered everything. I also want to make something clear. The fact that there is this thing happening to where if you don't like the game it's because you're a bigot or you have anything to do with LGBT is so annoying to me. Yes there are definitely people who are hating the game only for that reason but for me personally I absolutely do not care that they included that in the game. It does not matter because that is not what makes the story terrible to me. Now to get into the details here is my problem with the game and why I am so angry. First off why would they decide to use Joel as something to just further the plot and use him as a plot device. It is an injustice to his character whom which we all love. The only reason why that scene was heartbreaking at all is because it was a character we loved and had been waiting to see for 7 YEARS just taken away from us almost immediately. Other than that it was just so unemotional and there was nothing else that really made you feel in that moment. If they wanted to kill joel that badly then they shouldve done it differently and maybe i don't know wait a little bit before they killed him. Also what Nuaghty Dog seemed to forget is we wanted so badly to play as Joel and Ellie again and we all thought that that was what we were going to get but no we did not. It would have been way better if they killed Tommy and made Ellie and Joel go on the revenge spree if they wanted to keep that same storyline. Now getting in to the main game. I played as Eliie for so many hours thinking I was going to get revenge because in all honesty thats all I wanted. I did not feel a single drop of remorse any time we killed someone. Personally i don't know why naughty dog thought we would. And then at the end of the three days they ended up killing Jesse while then FORCING us to play as Abby, Joel's killer, FOR 10 HOURS was the most annoying thing ever that made me feel so damn angry. Throughout the time I was playing as her I treated it as a damn speedrun and it was just something I wanted to get over with. Not once throughout those 10 hours did I smile, laugh or feel anything for Abby. Why would they try to force her on us and essentially make us love her. I do not csre for her at all. So we go through all of that just so we can see her end up shooting tommy and Jesse and then the game does the 2nd worse thing in the entire game. THEY MADE US FIGHT ELLIE AS ABBY. Why on Earth would they think that was a good idea. Everytime Abby died i was legit just so happy with it and I wished that's where it ended. But no the game continued and I was so emotionally and physically drained. And then they show us Ellie and Dina living om the farm and i still could not even enjoy that. I was still so angry I could not even enjoy seeing Eliie happy. All I wanted was for the game to be over but no they still give us 3 more hours left to olay. I just ran through as much of it as I could. I did not try at all in the encounters I just did whatever I needed to. And now the the worse thing they decided to do was let Abby live. We did that dramatic fight scene just to feel so unsatisfied. Actually we played 30 hours just to feel unsatisfied. All for what, just to set up a third game that if we have to olay as Abby again most people are never going to touch it? Just to recap, We as players lost Joel, Ellie lost Joel, She also lost dina and her baby which was basically her family, Jessie died, Tommy got crippled and blind from one eye, and to top it off Ellie gets stuck with ptsd and has nothing in the end. Literally nothing. Meanwhile Abby gets to go live happily ever after with Lev. Why did they just get rid of all the characters we loved and make Ellie lost everything. If they were trying to send a message on how violence isn't the answer or revenge isn't that answer but yet Abby dedicated her whole entire life to getting revenge. Why does she get to get away with this and Ellie loses. Not only that , but it made no sense for Ellie to even leave Dina to go find her. You would think she'd just move on at that point. I would much rather have that happen then seeing Eliie literally lose everything and everyone while knowing Abby gets to go be happy. In conclusion that is why the storyline is absolutely garbage. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted to like Last of Us part 2 more than I did. The game has so much going for it. Beautiful graphics, excellent animations, talented actors, an almost perfect part one story and character development, an excellent composer. None of these were used to any great effect in part 2. The story in part 2 or maybe the storytelling completely missed the mark. If the main theme was to understand that heroes and good guys are matter of perspective the storytelling utterly failed. Had I been introduced to Abby before she killed Joel I could have grown to like her. Then maybe when she did kill Joel, I would feel conflicted instead of hatred and scorn. The first part did so well at making you care about characters despite how little time was given to their story. I cared about Sara, Sam, Tess, Henry before they were lost to the harsh reality of the apocalypse. When playing as Abby I just wanted to speed through the story. Seeing all the people and characters I killed as Ellie did give me a tinge of regret (side note, I avoided killing any dogs until was forced to kill Alice which was disappointing). But for Abby I felt nothing. Most infuriating, I had to play as Abby when fighting Ellie. Literally I was shaking my head and muttering to myself “No...” repeatedly. Maybe thats a testament to how good the story was in part 1 and how lacking it is in part 2. Great storytelling can humanize the worst of villains. I am sad to say, the storytelling so missed the mark that what’s great about this game is dragged down by the storytelling. I must say also I feel manipulated by the trailers that character swapped Jessy for Joel. I was already willing to believe Joey was dead and would only appear in visions but when that scene arrived, and Jessy appeared I felt cheated out of another excellent performance from Ashley and Troy. Visually this game is stunning. Gameplay it’s okay. Storywise it’s abysmal. Expand

The first game included an amazing world, immersive storyline, interesting (main and side) characters, and excellent pacing. As much as it pains me to say this, The Last of Us II definitely fails to deliver on these expectations and standards set by the first game. Part II is riddled with plot holes, questionable character choices, boring side characters, and terrible pacing. The revenge plot is so poorly executed, and the writing is just overall lazy. Although the graphics, animation, sound, and gameplay are amazing, the true appeal of a Last of Us game is the story. In the first game, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, and I was thoroughly looking forward to the next thing. In this game, I was sad, annoyed, and bored. It seems like everything (story-wise) that was good in the first game was completely sacrificed in this one for the new characters. The characters we know and love in the first game are deconstructed to fit the lazy storyline. I was so unattached to the story, that by the end of certain segments, I would have completely forgotten what I was doing before, which characters had died already, and what characters’ names were. Usually, I am EXTREMELY aware of these story elements. I cannot believe that after so much patience and excitement, this is what the franchise has come to. I am utterly heartbroken as I know the insane potential this second game had, even though a sequel was not needed.

Some people tell me “oh, you didn’t understand the story” or “that’s what the game wants you to feel”. But I don’t believe I need to dig that deep to tell myself that this game was good. I’ve never done that for any other game I’ve played, and I won’t give any special treatment to this one. If you’re wondering whether its worth it to get this game, get it if it’s on sale for $20 or less just to experience it if you really want. This coming from someone who’s favorite game of all time is the first Last of Us. As far as I can tell, The Last of Us Part II does not exist.

The graphics are phenomenal and the gameplay enjoyable although some times it can feel repetitive.

The last of us was an amazing touching story, making you care for each and every character as if they were your own family. Connecting to them, feeling them, getting to know them was my top priority when I immersed myself in that universe.
With that said, all the love and care that went into that first game was forcefully taken away in its sequel, killing the mentor figure right from the start, playing double standards for the protagonist and antagonist, forcing us to believe that Ellie has gone a darker path, which goes against the hero stature, yet with Abby - the villain, being guilty of walking this exact same path is treated like a saint.
Over all it is a huge decline from the first game's story, yet the visual beauty and the game play itself were absolutely astonishing. Having said that, as this is a story driven game, half of my score comes from the story and since it is a continuation of a previous, extremely good story driven game, I'm scoring it a 1/10. That with the 9/10 for the game play (some issues with friendly AI and the weapon system) would give an average of 5 / 10, though because of the way this game treated these characters I love so much, I really wanted to give it less.

As a continuation of the story set up in the first game it falls flat. I think most of the new characters are shallow at best and forgettable at worst, except for Lev who was the only new character I enjoyed learning about. If this story had been about other characters in the same world it would have been a good story but since it, about Ellie, Abby, and Joel I feel cheated out of the story that was portrayed in trailers and set up at the end of the first game. Some of the best parts of this game are the flashbacks where we see Ellie and Joel grappling with Joel's betrayal of Ellie's trust. In these scenes, the masterpiece of the first game shines and I just wish the whole game focused on that story instead of what we got. In summary, this is visually one of the best games ever created I just wish it had a narrative that was as enjoyable as the graphics. Expand

The graphic of the game was great and the artificial intelligence of the game great too and gameplay time was not bad but the story was not good and in the game's like this the story is the most important part and the game have a bad ending and bad starting and in my idea 5 out of 10 is the best rating for this game and 94 is very much for this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last Of Us: Part II plot is just plain bad. It's flat, like a first draft. It's not bold, it's lazy. The old characters' actions do not hold up to what they did in the first installement (Joel shouts out his name to strangers, Tommy is just a senseless killer and Ellie is a dark, horrible person) and the new characters are just simply boring, unlikeable people the developers try to make us empathize with via really manipulative and lazy strategies. Ellie kills dogs, Abby plays with dogs, Manny's father has Parkinson's disease, etc. Dina and her ex are so boring and flat, you couldn't care less if they were in the game or not. Abby is just a sociopath, who would've killed pregnant Dina if it wasn't for Lev. Owen is a cheating bastard, Mel is a passive aggressive and incredibly irresponsible woman (she goes on missions while pregnant) and Manny is a very bad written latin sterotype. Lev and his sister are Okay, I guess, given the fact that they have background as "scars", and they uphold this aura of mystery. but that's pretty much it. I wanted Abby and her friends to die so bad, I struggled to finish her timeline. Abby's father is a jackass that puts his life and the life of his daughter at risk to save a zebra, like, come on man, you're the town doctor, don't flee like that. Maybe it is on the graphics perspective it's a historic moment, but not at all on storytelling. They CLEARLY wanted us to like Abby, not to hate her, they tried to do it via those lazy and manipulative strategies I mentioned before, it does not make any sense what they are saying about this game being amazing by making you play as **** Abby, forcing you to do it if you want to finish the game. This is a triple A title, they would't risk it like that, it's not and indie game, for God's sake. This is not how you do the "ego death" thing. Like Angry Joe said, you could've played as Abby from the beginning, let us see her trauma, then let her meet Ellie, make them bond, fight together, then they could both find out the truth, maybe Abby knew all along, then Abby Kills Joel and Ellie kills Abbie, but you get that bittersweet drama at the end. But no, it's not like that, it's lazy as **** Naughty Dog didn't play with my soul, they played with my expectations, giving us all false advertising and writing a really bad story for the sequel of one of the best games, if not the best game of all time. A lot of parts felt very dragged just to make the game longer. I know the story doesn’t have the obligation to make the us players happy with the ending and all, but during 90% of the time the game just felt unpleasing to play. I wanted more from the relation of Joel and Ellie, but all I got was flashbacks. That was awful. The gameplay got repetitive at the end(same executions). But as I said before, nothing made me crack a smile. It’s definitely not a 0 but far from a 10 Expand

The first "Last of us" was one of my favorite games and I don't even own a Playstation, I saw a let's play that had me hooked. Fast forward today, I still do not own a playstation but I saw Pewdiepie's let's play. Unlike the first game you can tell there was much more of a political agenda.

This game is following the current marketing trend of inserting LGBTQ propaganda into its medium.

This game is following the current marketing trend of inserting LGBTQ propaganda into its medium. Which is not bad but very hard to do well, and really has no place in this game. The use of a multicultural cast shouts in your face "This is progress. Accept it!". However, the game fails to allow any solid connection to anyone other than Ellie or Joel. The narrative was confusing and the storytelling was sophomoric. Whoever thought is was a good idea playing as the villain for 10 hours needs to stop writing video games and go back to their tumblr blog.

As of the positives. The attention to detail is amazing. The mechanics are cool and the graphics are amazing. You can tell they put a lot of time and effort into this game. It saddens me to write this.

To conclude, This is not a 1 star game and it is not a 10 star game it is kinda right in the middle.

The game is fantastic in many ways but the story is too bad for such a heavily narrative game.

I love the fact that ND created strong and really interesting hbtq-characters, I love the music, the graphics and the performances of all the voice actors. The game-play is well balanced and so much fun. It is an impressive game in all aspects except for the most important one, the story.

However, the writing which concerns dialogue and notes found in game is really good. The failure lies in how the story progresses, how it made me feel and also not feel anything for the characters. How the story is puzzled together and how moments of expected built up climax feels like a complete waste of time and effort. I believe that Neil and the other writers will learn from this and will write amazing scripts for Naughty Dog in the future. Even the best people sometimes fail. Even though I had a lot of fun playing this game, the biggest sensation that I was left with after I finished was emptiness and disappointment.

The playable aspect and the story are really good, as well as the graphics. There are a lot of good things about this game but there's one thing that I would have liked to see, and that's Ellie and Joel talking before his death. I don't mean the flashback at the end, I mean an explanation of Ellie feelings to Joel. The thing I hated the most was its last trailer. When I saw that Joel was alive I got really happy and excited of seeing Joel and Ellie in action again but when we saw Jesse was the one who appeared, that made me really sad even though I like Jesse as a character. To sum up, a good story with a good message that was a bit underwhelming but still a good game Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What is to be said about this game? The first one was a masterclass of storytelling with gripping and emotional moments. Genuinely likable characters throughout the game and an inseparable, unforgettable bond between Joel and Ellie. Excellent combat and unique enemy types to an already stale genre in 2013 was a welcome addition to a fantastic narrative. The Last Of Us was a rollercoaster of a game that cemented itself in gaming history.

Now, remember my question? The Last Of Us Part II takes everything we loved about the first game and throws it aside for shock value and a shallow revenge plot with no resolution. Joel, a character universally loved by fans, is playable for 5 minutes and killed off within an hour. Nothing about it is compelling. We just get thrown into the shoes of a character we know nothing about on a mission to kill a settler from Jackson. Joel’s death is so rushed that it feels like the creators didn’t care about him in favor of this new group. One the group members even spits on him. A massive middle finger to fans of the first game. The first hour is an indicator of the rest of the game.

You then take control of Ellie, on her way to Seattle to get revenge on Abby, the character who killed Joel. Ellie’s section are so drawn out and boring though. The gameplay of TLOU2 hardly differentiates from its 2013 counterpart, with the exception of a jump button and the ability to to probe. Scavenging the vastly larger areas feels like a task and gets exhausting quick. The gameplay in TLOU1 worked because the narrative was so strong and you wanted to keep going. Here, I just wanted to get it over with so I could move on. That’s never a good sign in a game. Ellie’s segment ends with Abby finding her hideout after she left her map at the scene of Abby’s slain friends. You then take control of Abby, playing through Seattle again from her perspective. This is the problem with the second half of the game. Why would Naughty Dog have us play as Joel’s killer? It’s almost like they want us to like this character after what she did. They try way too hard as well. The problem being, none of her crew is interesting. They even let a pregnant woman go on the frontlines of combat, even though there are more capable characters seen around camp while playing the game. While Abby’s gameplay sections are the highlight of the game, it’s marred by the subpar story and characters. The ending is the biggest slap in the face in recent gaming history. After Ellie gets the upper hand on Abby in a fight, she decides to let her go without any explanation. Why did we just play this entire game? For that? There’s resolution at all and everything we did was for nothing. I’m conclusion, this game is a monumental disappointment. Sure the graphics, attention to detail, and combat are all top notch, but the forced moments, uninteresting characters, subpar story with no resolution, ruining established characters, and tiresome gameplay really hold this back from legendary status. I was honestly happy when the credits started rolling and I have never wanted that from a game before. We should have been playing as Abby in a flashback from the beginning of the game after she saw her father murdered. Take time to get to know her and her regiment for her revenge against Joel. Ellie and Joel should have had more gameplay together up until Ellie learns the truth about the hospital. She runs off and meets Abby, who she saves from an infected attack and joins her on her journey back to Jackson. They form a bond along the way and it’s the duo we play as. Then it’s back in Jackson that she learns about Joel and kills him which drives Ellie over the edge to seek revenge. That’s way more compelling than the story they took 7 years to tell us. I am not looking forward to a third game after this.

The way you interact with the environment makes tlou2 a very realistic and immersive experience of its own kind. However the main aspect of games like the last of us, the story, is really bothering me. The story pretty much starts off with Joel’s death. His death had a very powerful effect on me and most people probably. This death had such a powerful effect not only because of the fact that it is Joel who they killed, it’s also the way he got murdered which bothered me a lot. Later the character who killed him, Abby, was also the one we played for half of the game. This part of the game was a way to make us sympathize with Abby, but it didn’t really let me do that. For the entirety of her part, I couldn’t care less for what Abby experienced, let alone even having any kind of sympathy for this character. It was the opposite: Every time I died as Abby, I got happy, I cheered. The Ellie part compensates until a certain point for the failure of the Abby part, but only until Ellie becomes the one who is the most lost. The ending is the ultimate height of futility. What is it even worth trying and fighting for? That’s a question not only Ellie has to ask herself, but also the player. What is even the point in playing if every action leads to more loss and loneliness? Perhaps this is what Naughty Dog tried to accomplish and if it were the case, then perhaps they had the wrong goal in mind. Expand
