I did not enjoy playing this game. And I don't think I'll ever play another Naughty Dog game again.

You'd think naughty dog would've learned a lesson from GoT's final season on how to not piss off your audience but dear reader your probably much better off loading up the original game and pretending it's an only child . Last of us 2 is filled to the brim with lovely visuals

You'd think naughty dog would've learned a lesson from GoT's final season on how to not piss off your audience but dear reader your probably much better off loading up the original game and pretending it's an only child .

Last of us 2 is filled to the brim with lovely visuals ,cutting gameplay and good music. A shame it doesn't take away from the fact that going through the story puts you in the shoes of a loathed character your supposed to sympathize with , who mere moments before we learn of her story had very brutally dispatched the father of our beloved father daughter duo of the first game because an NPC of the first game was suddenly given a name, and a family.

I guess the take away from this was supposed to be those seeing revenge should dig two graves or something, but it was so poorly executed each death along our quest to tear Abby a new one just made me salivate for her blood even more. And we didn't even get that.

Yes we are supposed to to go , oh, well I guess we're supposed to forgive this. You know it did flash me back to another game with a fantastic story were an older man bonds with a young girl through a zombie apocalypse. I wonder if father figures like Lee and Joel go to the same heaven. Lee would be like : I died heroically saving my charge , how did you die? And then Joel will be like : I died because Naughty Dog needed a throwaway character to start off on the most unfulfilling revenge plot line that was ever written in gaming history. And then Lee would be like : That's rough buddy.

Anyway TLDR, Unfulfilling unsatisfying and rage inducing plot, unsatisfying flat characters, beloved characters making stupid choices.... just no. Save your money, watch a lets play.

But its sequel - too bad.
It breaks my heart too, but I really did not expect such a poor story after all these years of waiting.

Narrative structure wasnt the best, however it had a very complex story. It may have not been the story fans wanted/expected but its a story true to the universe of TLOU. Apart from some pacing/structure issues, this is a game that will age better with time

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is absolutely stunning, and I was continually shocked at the levels of detail and nuance used throughout. I am happy to have avoided the leaks before the game came out - even though I caught wind of Joel's demise - because that left me able to make up my own mind with the game.

I read and hear people saying that things didn't make sense with either how characters acted in a certain situation instead of being more suspicious. But what they're not taking into account is what often happens after a high stress situation - you relax. Even if just for a little bit. Joel, Tommy and Abby had gone through a high stress situation together. They worked as a team to survive. It makes sense that their guard was down. Disappointing, but it happened.

As players in an RPG, we don't get that personal experience because we're taught to be on guard the whole time, and most importantly - by our self with no-one else to rely upon. So, naturally, our guard will stay up after a tense exchange with the WLF, The Seraphites or the Infected. No-one has our back, so it's in our best interests to stay on guard until the ominous music stops.

It seems the critiques of this situation are purely taking an intellectual perspective, rather than taking into account the emotion side as well. It's always easy to "As if" from the sidelines...

    Next thing:

Any complaints about LGBT inclusion in the game as being political, woke, or any other description is missing the point. This is commentary on both the past and present acceptance of this community. To be accepting of it isn't about being "woke", it's purely about acceptance of another human being. The reason it's being talked about nowadays is because it's no longer taboo, or putting someone's life at risk for that being their life. TLOU2 shows the cross of old thinking with current acceptance - The Scars vs. Abby. It also shows that some elements and struggles in a post-apocalyptic may not be that different from what we experience in our comfortable arm-chair lifestyle that we have today.

    Last thing:

I hear complaints about not enough advancements in game-play mechanics. TLOU has always been about story first. In fact, Naughty Dog has been very consistent with this right from the beginning of the Uncharted series. Yeah, the gameplay mechanics were ok, but it was the STORY and characters that we connected with the most. ND pioneered mo-cap, and moved the industry as a result. When we talk about our favourite moments in TLOU1, it's not about this or that fight that we had. We talk about the moments that were cinematics - moments that we were the passenger as that moment of the story unfolded. Ummmm.... Same thing here! Yeah, there were improvements to gameplay mechanics - were they revolutionary? Mostly no. But that's not where their full efforts go. Everyone loved the first game even though there was wide acknowledgement that the gameplay mechanics weren't as good as othe games. This is called balance.

    Ok, ACTUAL last thing...

I don't know how people were finishing the game in 25-28 hours! It took me just shy of 41 hours over 4 days to knock this game out. I got complete value for money out of it. Yes, I looked in every nook and cranny to get the most out of it. I soaked it all up. All the little details hiding in the different corners. This is a HUUUGE RPG, and so worth exploring all the little details that this team has worked tirelessly to be able to achieve.

I absolutely loved this game. I'll play it again and again for sure. Perfectly legitimised itself as a sequel with beautifully executed ties to the first one to create drama and resolution.

Man **** the negativity the only reason why people rate this game bad is 1) they are just hopping on the ban waggin of negativity. 2) not finished the game. 3) bots. 4) the leaks. PS the leaks mean nothing. 5) expecting the game to have the same storyline, same linear, same everything. Hey hate to break it to ya, no game can be exactly the same. Wanna bet that if we got the same linear story people wouldn’t like it. Tlou 2 is open, not just in exploration, but in themes, gay, trans and many other things violence, revenge those things. I’ve finished the game and let me tell you all you haters this game is art. Meaning 50% chance of people liking it and the other 50% not liking it. But all this hate is pure stupidness, fake haters only looking for clout or ban waggin. It’s so dumb HATERS GO PLAY THE GAME YOURSELVES AND DON’T COME BACK UNTIL YOU GOT YOUR REAL!! OPINION. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is the biggest disappointment during my whole gamelife. We didn't wait for this. Gameplay, graphics and etc. are pretty good, not on the top level, but good. And the main problem isn't Neil's desire to please leftists. The main problem is the story, the plot, it's so bad, so disappointing, but first of all - it's not even close to the First part. Second half of the game... It was very-very difficult to make fans feel something good to Abby, killer of Joel! And all this stuff with Dogs and Scars, with these children. Maybe this is not bad, but this is not The Last of Us, this is not Our Story, and of course this is not interesting to us, fans. I didn't feel any emotion during playing as Abby. And why we playing as Abby and trying to kill Ellie, just why??? It's awful... Next, the ending. It can't compare with the ending of the First part. Just compare your emotions... The First part is better in any aspect, the MAIN MENU, the SOUNDTRACK, the STORY, the ENDING! Naughty Dog could create magnificent story, there was big space to create, but they'd preferred to break our hearts, fans hearts. Expand

I so wanted this to be good- but just no, no man. The game is beautiful. But when you have a story and characters from the first TLOU, and completely spit on those characters to make some sort of political point- you loose your fan base.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would like to just let you all know, those bad reviews written on June 19th when the game was just released and players probably only played 2 hours of the game should be totally ignored.

I have finished the game and I can say, with confidence, that this game is a masterpiece. Yes it has a lot of moments in the story we would have liked not happening, but let's face it, the world of TLOU is cruel, is dark and it's realistic.

Ellie makes weird decisions that can be seen as unnecessary or dramatics, but I honestly think, placing ourselves on her shoes, this girl has gone through hell and back. She has lost her friends and family and was born on this crazy world filled with monsters and people killing people to survive. She is hurt, she is traumatized and we can see this towards the end of the game.

We don't deserve Ellie. She is strong, she is the embodiment of lost and suffering, and still she is a fun charismatic character in the story. She is seeking revenge, and it's valid, she was angry with Joel for something totally unnecessary, she lost him without being able to fix their issues. She feels committed to seek revenge because of this. It makes sense.

Abby, her back story, it's so raw. Ellie takes away from her, basically everything doesn't she? Is her reason to kill Joel valid? YES! He did not only kill her Father, he took the chance of a cure away from humanity! Do we support Joel's decision on saving Ellie on the first game? We did, but just like Abby tells her Father, if it was her she would have liked him to sacrifice her to save humanity, and Ellie feels the same doesn't she?
Abby is such a strong and interesting character, she has lost her father, the man she loves who got another girl pregnant and still she is there. She has a heart, she saves Lev and Yara and forgives Ellie's life, even after they almost kill each other and Ellie has taken everything away from her. I respect her 100%. I must say, I didn't want to like her, but I ended up really understanding her and her motives.

The game itself it's to play, the story, its darkness, facing decision you must make (having to fight against Ellie had me tearing up) but this is the story this characters are living in. What's bad? The game can be exhausting. You feel like it's going to end and it keeps going. After playing with Ellie on the farm, you believe it's all over and the game just keep going.

The gameplay, it's pretty much the same as the one on the first game, of course new abilities are added given character's size and strength. But overall you do feel familiarity and continuity with the first game.

Overall, I loved this game, it's so worth playing, it's too long but you love it. I recommend it 100% and I am thankful with the amount of work Naughty Dog invested on this masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finished the whole game. Narrative and storytelling wise this game is atrocious. The scene cuts and flashbacks have no order and only hurts the player experience and adds confusion which is never resolved. If you enjoyed the first last of us game then be warned, the devs really made it their mission in this game to tear down everything we loved and enjoyed from the predecessor in hopes to "subvert expectations" but it backfired and is arguably worse Game of Thrones' 8th season. The narrative choices feel forced in a bad way, extremely edgy, genuinely confusing, and downright nonsensical at times. The major problem I have with this game is that the plot lines go nowhere and it doesn't even leave you on an ominous note. It feels as if you played and finished the game for nothing, since nothing is actually achieved. Gameplay wise, there's no standout generational improvements from the ps3 era and enemy mob entities are reused multiple times throughout the game; it feels like you're fighting the same 10 zombies and humans. The enemy AI is also terrible, you'll have no trouble getting through the game's most difficult areas which there are very few of since the enemies are unable to detect you behind the smallest of covers. Only positive I could think of is the voice acting and even that gets tiring since the majority of this game is just cutscenes and dialogue while walking from one point to another without any significant gameplay events occuring. 1/10 because they ruined such a loved franchise. The game frequently attempts to make the player feel guilty for actions they are forced by the game to perform, which can be done well, but it often comes off as too obvious and manipulative which causes the player to feel frustrated and disengaged instead of emotional. There is some fun to be had and a few of the characters are genuinely interesting, but overall, the incredible efforts put into this game on a technical level feel largely wasted. Expand

I think I've never been so disappointed in my life. Storyline feels like Niel Druckmann just came to my house and spited on my carpet. It hurts to give this game such an awful score, 'cause Naughty Dog did incredible job on visuals/details/gameplay. But story just ruined everything.

P.S. Just in case - I don't have any problems with LGBT or strong female characters.

However, like most of the reviewers have mentioned, they destroyed the story line, which was the main focul point of this game.

This would be understandable if it was game like Street Fighter or Doom(classic), which concentrates mostly on playability rather than storyline, however TLOU series is known for it's story and what they have done to part 2 of this game, people need to know, how bad it was.

    - Really stunning graphic and sound
    - Technical good Gamemechanic

But holy mother the story is so bad I had to quit the game. The characters' decisions don't make sense at all.

Graphics are amazing, you can see little writing on fuel stations, actually read notes on whiteboards or posters. Gameplay wise the game runs fine, no game breaking glitches, afew good scares and panic moments; amazing story where I felt having the game show both sides to the story really helped show why each character did what they did. Honestly dont understand the hate or why people are hating this game, to me this can easily be GoTY. And for those those that have finished the game and didnt like it just think back to Joel's song "if I were to ever lose you I'd surely lose myself" and look at how she lost herself Expand

So in that aspect this game, although divisive, is already accomplishing what it sets out to do. Get an emotional response. From the time the game opens to the closing frame, I have to disagree with the others. I loved everything about this game. The combat was tight, tense, and frantic. The pacing of the story, the gorgeous visuals. I think a lot of what sparked the outrage is the very brutal and swift nature of his demise. Everyone is quick to ask how could they do that to Joel!? He did what he did to save Ellie!? Ok, but that doesn't mean he's a good man. All of the characters in our story have grown to do heinous things for the ones they loved after society fell.. Violence begets violence and we know that Joel did **** that we never see that is pretty heinous. I loved seeing the way the paths crossed between Ellie and Abbey and at the end of the day I'm excited to see where the story goes from here. Calm yourselves neckbeards of the world's. I don't normally review games, but I honestly was so repulsed by the laziness of the story and poor writing that I signed up to do my small part to ensure that other gamers who fell in love with the first game don't waste their money, and worse, retroactively ruin the memory of the first game by playing this game.

This game is more than a let down, its destructive to all the good the last game accomplished with respect to Gaming and Narrative. It breaks my heart to write this, as I loved the last game so much, but this game is beyond garbage, it trades on the good memories we have of the brilliance of last game and then engages in the most lazy and poor storytelling possible.

Forget, for a moment, the shoehorning of various political issues - that is just a symptom of the lazy storytelling, non-existent character development, and all-around lack of attention to anything resembling a narrative in this game. Do yourself a favor. Don't Buy This. It will ruin the previous game for you.

Story is garbage, Character development is non-existent, Motivations are simpler than in a bad children's book...and yes, there is a shoehorning of every conceivable hot-topic political issue into the game. I left that bit for last because I really don't want to be accused of that being my only reason for giving this game a poor review.

    Some Positives:
Gameplay mechanics are great, but really nothing more than a small improvement on the previous game.

The world is more open and the story doesn't keep you on rails as much as the last one, but because the story is such a thin broth, this is a blessing.

The map is much better and the levels of difficulty are more in-depth.
    The photo-mode is nice.

But that's about it. This game is the opposite of a continuation of something good. It is a negation of the last game. Don't play if you want to keep your memories of the franchise positive.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, that was something. Not everyone's cup of tea, some bits were really good, and some bits were really bad. First of all, the art was insane, the detail, storytelling and world building is second to none. Character animations are excellent, with amazing acting and cut scenes.

Music and audio overall was unreal. Extremely immersive and created a beautiful atmosphere. The level design was what you'd expect from a Naughty Dog title at the moment, diverse and sometimes fun. The added dimension of crawling and climbing was implemented well, however I didn't enjoy the invisible borders to the levels, I think this is a cheap level design move and ruins the immerssion. The gameplay was okay, it hadn't really evolved into anything more than what it was before, some of the cover and shooting was a bit clunky and unfortunately didn't feel well thought out at times. Killing gets very repetitive and becomes an unrewarding experience to borderline grindy and monotonous. I'd have quite enjoyed setting traps, problem solving ways of getting out of rooms, better designed stealth missions and just simply exploring some interesting areas. Considering in Uncharted we can climb so much stuff, I was very surprised this wasn't something added.

The story, well, I don't really know what to say... For me, it was just a mess. Killing one of the most beloved characters in gaming history, seems like a very nasty way to destroy all the love and respect built from the first title, and to do it for shock is for all the wrong reasons. I'd dare say it's borderline selfish.

Secondly, taking away player agency and forcing them down a bottleneck to play the very character who murdered Joel in an attempt to provoke emotion, again, feels very self righteous, and the manipulation tactic designed to make the player enjoy this person seems disingenuous. Personally at this point you're making the game for yourselves and your ego, instead of the millions of players who have supported both your studio, and your productions for years and even decades. They even had the audacity to advertise otherwise. Its like you knew people wouldn't like it, and yet you did it anyway.

I also can't get over the amount of flashbacks, it was tiresome. The mechanic makes everything chaotic.

Additionally the new characters served no purpose narratively and were just bland. I couldn't care for a single one. With no development of them, it was just vanilla, and when they died, I mostly didn't care. The only character I liked was Lev. He was probably my favourite and the most interesting/well built.

By the end, I'd given up and just wanted to see the ending, but I really didn't care. I was exhausted from forcing myself to try and enjoy it. The magic that existed in the previous title was missing. The whole concept of story driven narrative was lost like the final season of GoT - this game ultimately forgot what it was supposed to be.

For me, I'd have enjoyed playing as Ellie and Joel at the start, feeling that magic between them both and reminiscing on the good times we had, pure nostalgia. The first part of the game could be Ellie working with Joel, Tommy, Jesse and Dina, doing missions to support Jackson, exploring the world, levelling up, crafting cool stuff and enjoying awesome encounters, saving survivors, clearing out clickers, just a nice introduction to the characters, their stories, the world and the mechanics. Then, Ellie and Joel on a great adventure. You then split off for whatever reason and now you're alone exploring a new area, maybe the scars or another group. You could save Joel and abby, work together to escape, and go back to Jackson or the wolf camp, she's a friend of yours but she could even become the love interest instead of Dina - this makes later situations harder to deal with.

At this point abby figures out who joel is, stuff could happen and he dies in Epic fashion that tears at Ellie. The revenge plot begins.

You team up with Tommy, Dina and Jesse who then work with you to find abby and kill her. This group gameplay brings a whole new dynamic. You could even direct them to do things, reward the player with cool functionality.

Later you meet Lev. This is the perfect time to drop ideas into your head about forgiveness. You build a relationship, working forward and surviving (the key mechanic is survival, problem solving ways out of impossible to exit rooms with puzzles, camping in abandoned areas and setting traps for clickers etc).

Eventually you find abby, fight, and you get this forgiveness narrative in the end. Perhaps Lev gets involved and begs you both to stop.

For me, executed properly, this sort of narrative would've been a much more rewarding experience. It can provoke conflicting emotions, happiness, mourning, anger, forgiveness, all of it and ultimately be an enjoyable game without upsetting the player and forcing them down a journey kicking and screaming.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The great thing about this game is the way it puts question marks over right and wrong. The way you develop a sense of empathy towards characters that you could label 'good' but they could also be called villains.

Am I upset that I didn't get to see another story about Joel and Ellie? Yes.

But instead I got reality. Joel killed dozens of people who were potentially innocent, particularly the doctors. Its no surprise that he made enemies. You could even say he is a bad person, or just blinded by his love for Ellie, or just doing what most parents would do. There's an argument here for all sides. Which is why the playthrough of Abbey's timeline is so good. It opens up a bigger world of violence and death, and raises bigger emotional questions than the first game. It makes you question it all.

For me this game wasn't about Joel and Ellie. Nor Abbey and Ellie. Its about the bigger picture, the bigger questions that revolve around a world of hatred and violence.

Is it better than the first game? No. But its definitley a memorable title.

Ps. Everyone knew the gameplay would be amazing. So nothing new there.

Graphics: yes they seem nice especially the outside visuals of landscapes but faces at times seem utterly weird and not in keeping with the rest of the game. When I see people say the graphics are 10/10 i just laugh because there are some really poor ones.

Gameplay: It is I am afraid to say quite dated in the way it works but the worst thing is the jump system which seems to fail for no reason and they even include a easy jump version in the controls. This should tell you that they knew it was bad but decided to do nothing about that.
The game had some very boring parts in my humble opinion and just seemed to be there to stretch the game out.

Sound: Very nice and I cant say too much negative about it

All in all not a bad game but a disappointment none the less, If ND wanted to make a political statement they should have done so via twitter because some of this stuff does not need to be in games. Woke culture is bleeding into too much stuff these days. The way ND and Sony handled the leak was terrible but that does not effect my score at all.

The way they massacred Joel's character... why would he suddenly trust a bunch of strangers like that... It made no sense. And please, don't tell me it's because he's mellowed out after those years living peacefully. That is just dumb storytelling.
I don't know. It just feels like a whole waste of a game. None of the new characters are interesting, because they barely get any meaningful development, and they suddenly they die in some bs way. Abby, the second protagonist, is straightup a psychopath and is impossible to sympathize with. Yeah sure, she helps children and pets a dog, woohoo, but that doesn't erase the fact that she murders people in cold blood and shows 0 remorse (unlike Ellie).

Man, I don't know, i'm just sad, waited 7 years for this. What a letdown, what a waste, what an awful unsatisfying ending, what a dumb story, what a dumb cast of characters.... whatever, screw naughty dog, screw the people that thought this story was acceptable.

I really loved it. I don't want to spoil anything, but this game seems to split opinions. I guess this is also necessary sometimes.

this game is amazing. honestly ignore the review bombing and negativity, naughty dog told a wonderful story. it doesn’t leave you with a happy, campy ending, but it’s still a very visceral and realistic story told perfectly as only naughty dog could do

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm so disappointed. i guess game-play must be better and you have no choice in the game. you are just a spectator. this is a game not a book! the player must participate in the game, not only go from point A to point B.

Let's just say that this bit of dialogue in the museum scene was shockingly self aware. As Joel is obviously talking about Jurassic park he says "there was a sequel, wasnt as good".

"Wasnt as good" is a mild way of putting it. It had its good moments such as the stunning graphics and rare heartfelt scenes, but for a majority of the game I felt bored with the insufferable, unlikable and

Awesome game, but not for everyone. As Neil Druckman said in an interview, you will either love it or hate it. Nevertheless, if you enjoy the gameplay of the first game, you are in for a treat with this one.
Again, if you are a sensitive person and think the story should go as you want, then by all means play something else with that option. This is a linear game and it is Naughty Dog's

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
