Sound, Ambient, Music is just top Perfect for The Last of Us.

The (HORRIBLY) Bad: The story, and this is BAD, its a narrative game, the story is the most important thing.
SPOILERS, Joel is killed by Abby, a new character, she is the daughter of one of the surgeons Joel killed in the first game, okay, she seeked revenge, but the writing of the story lets her do it so easy it's disrespectful to the character of Joel, he and his brother acted dumb before Joel's death, and Abby does it so early in the game, well thats the way the story starts, pretty **** but well, oh wait, the game forces you to play as her, and let her get everything she wants, oh she wants to beat Ellie and her girlfriend even though they are our favorite characters, and what's even worse, Ellie even when she nearly dies, killed all of Abby's friends and boyfriend, and encounters with a weaker Abby, she doesn't get her revenge, she doesn't kill Abby, Abby didn't even wanted to fight, and still got away, again Abby gets everything she wants despite us the player hating her for what she did to Joel, what an disappointing ending.

What they did to Joel and Ellie is just disrespectful to the character, how they changed them to a completely new and horrible character that is Abby.

It breaks my heart that I have to give this score to the sequel of one of my favorite games, If not my #1 favorite game.

So here is my honest thoughts about this game. No this game is not an 3 out of 10, but it also is not a 10 out of 10, and here is why. Alot of people like to say this game looks great, but I think the faces look weird and out of place, especially compared to Uncharted 4, I do not know what it is, but I think it might be the mouths are too big. Sound is really good. Gameplay is the same as Last of Us, it has not really changed much which can be seen as a good thing or bad thing depending what you think. To me 7 years in the making and if the gameplay does not really have something new, then you might have to reevaluate what you used your time on. I mean Uncharted 4 had alot of new things, and they used less time to make it.

Story, so yeah the writing is really bad, and I mean the dialog. Whoever wrote this need to learn how to write dialog, every female character feels like it was written by a man that has no idea how women act or react in real life. And I am one of those guys who rolls his eyes when I hear that sentence by other people, but here it is so obvious it is kinda crazy. These characters feel like they are a parody or a fantasy version of some guy inner dreams on how women should be, and it shows.
The story had a very weird structure, for some it might be a good thing and for others it might be good, for me this story structure has been done before better so it really is not that big of a deal. The core story itself on the other hand has too many plot holes, as well as it feels fake, simply because the characters feel too fake to even exist.
This game forgets how real human beings really act, and also how young people behave in real life and is in my opinion a work of fiction in both reality and humanity. The gameplay is repetitive and it shows after hours. In my opinion this game is 5 out of 10.

I was never a fan of the last of us.... it honestly felt like a chore to get through the game to finish the amazing story... the last of us 2 refines and addresses some of my gripes.... it's a beautiful game.... the controls are solid... the story.... well.... its ambitious at best, and shallowly cliche at worst. It still feels like a slog at times... and the narrative just wont stop beating you over the head with the idea that violence is bad...

The graphics and the gameplay is mostly on top of all ps4 games till now. The story is not bad and no masterpiece. To have full fun with the game you have to accept the feelings naughty dog punches you in your face. If you can’t accept the second story part and can’t get any connection to Abby (like me) prepare yourself for 12 hours of good standard shooter. When I had to rate the game to this point it would get 9/10 but after it and the last part of the game that feels a bit like filler I can’t give the game more than 5 points. Many story parts feel forced and don’t make sense.

I totally respect the risky way naughty dog went with this game but I think it doesn’t work out. After a few days since completing the game I think it was a cool idea but they chose the wrong franchise and ruined some of the best characters in gaming history.

I think it’s not fair to trash the scores but it’s also not fair to say the most bad reviews are from trans- and homophobic users. There are many reasonable critics which only critic the game itself and not its agenda.

After playing The last of us part 2, how to say the game looks beautiful to the graphics of the landscape to the flow of water in a river and the sound of the game is top-notch to the point that it rivals Hollywood quality in terms of the environment sounds to voice actors playing out there scenes. Now what they got wrong was that the story was not as good at they initially hoped. The killing off the main character everyone loved, introducing a strong female protagonist to replace joel... I like to point out that the game used to be about the zombies but now it seems like the only story that's worth telling is one that rivals The walking Dead but what's 0 pacing. I went through so many flashbacks I literally lost count. At the end of the game I didn't feel immersed , I had to take long breaks just the process the story decisions and direction.... This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Heart-breaking for all of the wrong reasons, the story of TLoU2 is an objective downgrade when standing in contrast to the first game.

Perhaps the most pronounced flaw with the story of the TLoU2 was the writers completely abandoning the main themes of the first game to instead spread an invasive message of female protagonists forcefully replacing beloved male characters to fit an agenda and revenge leading to nothing but further destruction and ruination.

This is not what the Last of Us is supposed to represent as a narrative. The themes of the first game included Guilt, Loss, Acceptance of One's past and most importantly, the theme of Hope being the main driving force of the entire game. The bleak atmosphere present within the first game simply served the purpose of enhancing the previously mentioned themes, yet, in this latest instalment, the bleak atmosphere completely engulfs the entirety of the plot in a shroud of perpetual darkness and depression.

it is quite obvious that this sequel does things for the sake of being different rather than for the sake of elevating the story to never before seen heights. The prime example of this would be in the form of Joel's unearned and needless death. Evidently, the writers had desperately tried recreating the shock value of Sarah's death for the first game, with the 'clever' twist being the daughter figure witnessing the death of her father figure right in front of her eyes. However, this just comes off as being cheap and unearned. You're telling me that a hardened veteran such as Joel, the same person who sensed the Hunter ambush in the first game, would be dumbed down to such a point that he would follow an armed stranger into their home which in turn would have himself and Tommy surrounded by even more armed individuals, without even having a firearm ready? No, I'm sorry but that is just lazy and betrays the characteristic of Joel being cautious and highly vigilant no matter the situation. The player feels anger and frustration rather than shock and sadness, as they had to bear witness to one of the best written characters in video game history receiving perhaps the worst death of a main character period. Moreover, Joel was brutalized by an unrealistically muscular woman wielding Driver Nephi's Nine Iron from New Vegas.

The writers then expect players to endure 6-8 Hours playing as the roided out female who massacred one of their most beloved video game characters. No amount of subliminal 'Good-Guy Propaganda' could ever make Abby likeable in my eyes. I didn't care that she was petting puppies and helping save Zebras with her dad, the only thing I cared about during Abby's part was speed running past it so that I could continue to the actual story that I care about. The sad truth of the matter is that Abby could have been a strong secondary protagonist, however, the death of Joel at the very beginning of the game made her irredeemable. Only idiots, psychopaths and paid stooges in suits pretending to be valid, unbiased critics would actually enjoy playing as Abby and sympathize with her, which is such a shame considering that I could tell that Laura Bailey was giving the part her all. The writers should honestly feel ashamed.

Being brief, characters completely abandoned their characteristics which they had attained and defined during the first game, for the simple purpose of the writers feeling lazy when thinking of ways to accelerate the already paint-dry slow plot-hole filled story.

The saddest part of all of this is that I expected a lot better out of Druckmann, and I know for a fact that his talent when it comes to writing could have easily made this game an actual masterpiece rather than a colossal failure in the eyes of the general consumer. The evidence for this would be arguably the best parts of the game, the flashbacks. In my opinion, most, if not all, of the flashbacks were 10/10 and masterful in explaining the relationship between Joel and Ellie. As a matter of fact, these flashbacks were the only time in which I smiled throughout all of the game. What a shame and what a joke that the game did not follow these flashbacks instead of this horrifically stitched together plot.

Furthermore, if this game was meant to honour Ellie, it fell on its face thrice over before land sliding off of a cliff. Ellie gets one of the worst and most undeservingly dark endings I have ever seen in a video game. She loses everything she cares about, even being incapable of playing the guitar properly at the end of the game. I found this egregiously disgusting especially when Abby got a happy ending, mirroring the end of the first game where a now deflated Abby and Lev act as the new Joel and Ellie, sailing away into the sunset.

I understand the ending with what the writers presented, but Ellie sparing Abby is like if John Wick spared the person who killed his dog.

In conclusion, this story was mercilessly crippled by forced identity politics.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well. After playing for about 23 hours i can finally review this game. Killing Joel in such a heartless and rushing way was something which i can't and won't forget. . As he went to the city in Part 1 with Ellie by car, he instantly knew what the hell was going on, as some random people apparently needed his help. You could argue that after 4 years you get lazy and start to trust people more. But it's Joel: A character who is very stubborn and wants to avoid any risk at any costs, so it's not very likely that he would change even a bit. Playing Abby was no problem for me, even if she was the killer of Joel. But nearly half of the game? Damn. No way. In addition the game tried to make the player emotionally attached after killing Joel. I can say that in my case it showed the absolute opposite. I had literally no emotion left at all because all i waited for 7 years was torn apart after not even 2 hours in such a horrible way. Scenes in Last of Us Part 1, which still make me so emotional and makes me nearly cry till this day; while playing Last of Us Part 2 i felt nothing. Absolutely nothing. After debating if the game is good or bad, i decided to do neither of it. So it's a 5/10. Rest in Piece Last of Us. I will always remember your first part as the only part, which remains my favourite game of all time forever.

Those are the good things about the game.
But what is really sad is the writhing for this game. Joel's death was done in a stupid and lazy way, forced for the story to continue. Using the argument that he stayed in the community left him "less suspicious" is inconsistent, it is not because he spent 4 years in a community that made him "forget" with the outside world. He has experienced many things during 24 years of survival, and knows what human beings are like in the outside world. He would be just as suspicious as before, as he now patrols a community, so his instincts would be the same in the first game.
Another point was that everything was very convenient during the scene, because exactly at the moment when Abby will almost be killed by the infected, Joel saved her from that situation at the last minute, and he and Tommy went straight to meet her group, and being comfortable in their presence during the scene, besides Joel being in the middle of the room, surrounded.

The game was sold as an adventure by Joel and Ellie again, the trailers were even edited to think about it, and at no time did we see Abby in any of the trailers. the company knew that the public would not like to hear that the story would be about Ellie and Joel's murderer, Abby. We don't wait 7 years for that.
Even showing the background of Abby losing her father, to feel sympathy for the character, it did not convince most players, as well as me, because Abby is a psychopath, and here are examples of how the game shows her with her actions in her darkest moments:

1 - Shoot the knee of a man who saved her moments ago, using a golf club to beat and torture him for a considerable time, and kill him in front of a girl who is begging for his life.
2 - After discovering that Dinah is pregnant, she doesn't think twice before trying to cut her throat, just not committing the act because Lev prevented her.
3 - Cheating on her friend Mel (who was pregnant) having sex with Owen, and showing zero remorse.

Ellie, at similar times, shows much more humanization in her reactions:
1 - Upon hearing Nora offend Joel, she beats her in a brutal way (also to have information about Abby), and moments later, she is totally shaken after that event.
2 - After killing Mel and discovering she was pregnant, Ellie has a panic attack, falling to the ground and hyperventilating, showing herself completely traumatized and making it clear to the player that she would not have killed her if she had known this before.
3 - Ellie apologizes to Jesse about kissing Dinah, and the relationship begins without containing a betrayal.

There are a lot of plot holes in the game, such as Tommy letting the map in the floor so that, in the narrative, Abby would find it.

In the end, Part II had a great potential to be one of the best sequels of a game, but fails miserable in the story telling of such a beautiful story that was the first game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll start off by saying I loved the first Last of Us. It's in my top 20 of games all time. The last of us part 2 however, was a struggle to get through. When it comes to the last of us it's all about the setting and the story. I debated whether to give this game a 4 or 5 and I decided on 5 in the end. It all comes down to how the characters were portrayed mostly. The gameplay is ok but not an improvement from the original. I don't agree with people giving it a 0 for the review simply because they dislike the story. I dislike it also, but you have to take into account the whole game. Visuals and Music were top notch which is where all my score went.

When it comes to the story it was utter garbage. Joel and Tommy don't act like themselves, Which leads to Joel's death. You're also forced to play as Abby, the character who murdered Joel. Abby's justification for killing him is a good one, however, it's been 7 years with Joel and Ellie. Playing and replaying that story and being attached to those characters. Being forced to play with a beloved characters murderer sucks. I couldn't relate to her at all because I was so pissed at her. I wont spoil everything but the ending leaves a lot to be desired. It is for sure a mixed bag that some people will like and some will hate. I'm in the latter. If you really loved the first last of us and the characters of that game I would avoid this game at all cost. Think of it like star wars. Originals were great, sequels not so much.

Amazing graphics and decent game play, however it is similar to the first game, but personally I felt the story severely lacked and with it being a story based game, the scoring took of from it is much greater. I also feel that Joel had to die but I feel that the way it was executed did a disservice to his character despite his flaws which ruins the relationship us players built up about him from the first game by killing him off in such a painful and horrible way. Despite the message the game tries to convey about revenge, it also misses out on the point of justice as Abby got away with all the terrible crimes she committed herself. Fundamentally killing a beloved character off in vein will never make something successful unless it is executed properly. For example, Joel could of died saving Ellie and Abby could of seen this as justice to her own pain but also forgiveness as she sees the man she hunted do something selfless which conveys both a message in revenge is wrong but to also forgive people when the try to do the right thing which in turn shows development in Abby's character as she changes her ideal of revenge. But instead of this we saw her commit evil actions which makes us hate her even more when we play as her. Expand

How in anybody's mind would think anyone would want to play HALF the game as Joel's KILLER!? And not only that, they took out the amazing multiplayer because they wanted to "Focus on the story?" Not only is the story a slog to get through (except playing as Ellie) we don't relate to Abby or her **** unfunny ass friends which all seem likey **** people mind you. They're just seems to be no real honest direction here and it really shows in the end product. There is no desire to play through the game again. This was suppose to be ELLIE'S story, not some two sided story mess we got. Although the locations are great, (even when playing as Abby, the island, the skyscraper were cool locations) it just has bad pacing. Abby is about to shoot Ellie then for like 12 HOURS we have to sit down and try to relate to Joel's killer? For what? Why do I care about Abby? I think her design is cool the way she slams down on her enemies with a hefty "thump" but she feels poorly implemented in the story and to try and make us the players who journeyed with Joel and Ellie in the first game sympathize with her? It just does not work, and it does not. Man I can't believe they cut multiplayer for a mediocre story. Expand

Some of the new side characters are actually interesting, I fond lev and his story to be intriguing but we are forced to interact so much with such a hated character(abby) it spoils the game. The infected got me with multiple jump scares. Being able to lay flat and other new perks were fun to use. Loved the explosive arrows. The story is unfortunately terrible. The trailers and even description of the game is deceiving. Due to bad storytelling and pacing issues I spent half the time feeling miserable and angry. The other half I enjoyed was due to gameplay and only when I played as Ellie. A good portion of the game is spent being the person who killed Joel. I do no care for Abby and after playing as her for half the game I still hate her character. Her story was pointless and was just to bring us back to where we were at 10 hours earlier in the story. I was super excited to play this for years and super disappointed when it ended. I will take the good parts to memory (ie Joel and Ellie flashback at the museum, gameplay etc) but forget the rest and NEVER play this game ever again. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had been waiting for this game for 6 years and it finally came out. I had told all my friends and my family that I was going to be offline for a couple days playing the game. I played the game and was of course saddened that they killed off Joel. I had seen some of the leaks previously of Joel’s death but wanted to believe they were fake. I was in denial but finally once I saw for myself that they killed off a beloved character I thought I understood what naughty dog was doing. You play as Ellie for the first 15/20 hours which was fine, but then they switch you off to Abby. Abby is the main “villain” who killed Joel. I’m not sure who naughty dog thought would want to play as Someone who killed the character that you learned to love in the first game. It doesn’t make sense overall. I Believe you play as Abby for 6+ hours and even towards the end of the game you hunt down Ellie. This doesn’t make sense to me whatsoever. Why would you want to play as someone that hunts down a character you love. Also the main reason Abby wanted to kill Joel in the first place was because Joel killed Abbys dad, who was the surgeon In the first game. This may be confusing but basically in the first game the main surgeon at the end of the game who Joel kills was Abbys dad. Wowww such a good story continuation. Abbys dad was the one who wanted to “kill” Ellie and go through with the surgery in the first place. Marlene didn’t even want to “kill” Ellie, but Abbys dad thought it was such a good idea so that way they could try to get a vaccine, even though the world was already dead. Overall I don’t hate this game, I just hate that naughty dog would think that we would want to play as someone who killed Joel. Also I don’t understand why Ellie didn’t kill Abby at the end of the game either. She traveled all the way down to get Abby and found her and drowns her, but in the last second has a realization. Doesn’t make sense. Again I don’t hate the game itself and the graphics and gameplay is beautiful, I just don’t like parts to the story. Overall if you want to buy this game I wouldn’t recommend it if you get too attached. I personally stopped playing the game when you start playing as Abby. I feel as though her part is unnecessarily long and boring, which it didn’t have to be, but no one really cares about her. Sorry this is long but I just wanted to share my thoughts. Expand

The gameplay is quite cinematic and fluid , but doesn't do enough to distinguish itself from the revered first entry it's absolutely a 7/10 for me , the story is where this game falls apart characters from the first game make some questionable decisions not resembling their previous choices and the new characters the game introduces aren't memorable or well developed enough to have an impact , also the plot is needlessly bleak and let me tell you this is not an easy game to play , its downright harrowing at times and that goes for the ending too which is bleak for it's own sake nor there's any feeling of contentment and not to serve the story in any meaningful way , it has to be a 5/10 for me and for a series that was revered for its amazing story that's a disappointment,.The first game is my favorite game of all time and I'm sad to see this is where they took they took the story Expand

The first game was amazing with a beautiful story whereas the second one made no sense and has so many plot holes throughout the story. In the first last of us a firefly pretended he was hurt and needed help and Joel knew what he was doing so he ran over him and trusted almost nobody. In the second game he trusts everyone which makes no sense which is so disappointing in how he dies. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLOU2 is a very fun action horror game in terms of gameplay.
The gameplay is so much better than The original with many improvements I love the new combat and some of the new weapons this game brings. However, I didn't play last of us 2 just for gameplay I played it for its story and oh boi is it bad... Now the game has some really cool story moments when you're in the flashback scenes but the overall story is complete jank full of plot holes for example in the first game Joel was a deep complex character that knew the wasteland but here he's like oh look strangers hers my name and id dw about it. for me he's not even the same character any more.
Most characters in this game are so 1 note its not funny take Dina as an example what is her character outside of "I love Ellie" what is there? Sure we learn some stuff from her past, but she's so one note that's nowhere near as complex as character Bill in the first game or Tes or anyone else that was there. This is failure of a sequel in my opinion. If there's a 3rd part I'm not buying it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I created this account to review this game. I have never felt the urge review a game more.
This game in itself is about a 7/10, the story was over directed and cheap. Parts of it are just basically unexpected behavior from people just so that the story could move forward. (Character performances were an 11/10 however). The performances and beauty of the game make up for the useless (I exaggerate, it is ok, even good at times but goes on for too long and becomes boring) gameplay and cheap story.

The overall ark seems to be written by a pretend philosopher kid, there are flashes of brilliance in the predictable pseudo moralistic story that this game is and the ending is just a cherry on top of the beautiful cake. Obvious and oft repeated things, generally considered common sense are treated as nuggets of rare wisdom.
I knew Joel was gonna die, but didn't know he was gonna die thinking Ellie and his brother were gonna die to. We saw Joel learn to care again in the first game, to the point of murderous fault by the end of the game. He knew death was coming and he deserved it, there is a price to pay for things even when they are driven by love, but it could have been done substantially better, such an important scene could be given some room to breathe.

As a squeal however it is a 2/10 for me, they **** every character I loved so much. They **** over Ellie, I wanted to play as her so bad but not in this story. The game should have not been a part of this story (franchise story), to make the art that is (to critics) TLOU2, they **** over many who loves TLOU. Don't get me wrong, there were cheap outs used in the first one too, but the number of jumps here was just painful. They make us hate the firefly leader (questionably aggressive behavior by her and her minions) before we murder everyone in the complex in the end, to maybe not make people completely hate the end (justifying questionable/bad actions by protagonists often done by representing those that action hurts as pure evil).

This game was probably designed for critics. They tried to do a Kojima without any of Kojima's finesse or balls (He made a game designed around walking because he said he was tired of all the killing required in games).

I guess i might also be partially at mistake for being venerable because I got involved the first one too much. This game mostly wiped out any trust I had on review websites (not because of their reviews, reviews are subjective, their behavior and statements about player dislike after the fact), I will probably never get as invested in a game again.

In the end, to me subjectively, they sacrificed a 10/10 (who am i kidding TLOU was 11/10) to make a 7/10 (if I ignore the beauty of the game and attention to detail it is a 4/10).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's super underwhelming as the sequel to what I think is actually the best story ever told in a game. I understand what they were going for but it's just so boring. They keep hammering home this idea that revenge and the cycle of violence is bad. No **** That's not an interesting idea, everybody knows that. I'm stunned people keep saying "this game makes you think," because unless you're a serial killer, it really doesn't. Of course Abby had a reason to want to kill Joel. Of course revenge and violence will **** up your mental state, of course it can ruin your life. Who thinks otherwise? This central idea is so boring and lame.

Further, the characters are utter disappointments. Abby, who I initially hated for clubbing Joel, was the only one that I think was well developed. Jesse, a character we meet very early on and one of Ellie's core friends, is killed by Abby as he opens a door, and then after that he is mentioned ONCE hours later. It's like he never existed. Lev's sister dies, and Lev is disturbed for a bit and then she's never mentioned ever again. We play with Dina for a bit, then we leave her in a theatre and never play with her again, and she's basically just always in the theatre. Abby's friends are even less interesting, except for Owen. Mel is.. a medic and pregnant, and that's it. We know nothing else except then she dies and we're supposed to feel bad because she was pregnant. Nora - I remember nothing about, except that she dies interrogated by Ellie. Who is she? What does she like? Where'd she come from|? Who knows. So many of these characters just feel like fillers and throwaways, and the few interesting characters aren't really developed. Isaac was interesting - how'd he get to the top of the WLF, where's he from - we don't know and we see him once talk with him and then next time we see him he gets shot and killed and never mentioned again. Manny seemed interesting and was a funny guy and then he gets shot next to Abby and she never mentions him again. Overall the characters are uninteresting, some are underdeveloped, and they're generally very weak.

Gameplay is fine - it's basically the same from TLOU1 except you have a few new toys like trapmines, but it's basically the same. Not bad, not good just good enough, which is fine because in the first game, it didn't need to be good because of how the story held up the game. But here, the story fails, and then the gameplay fails because it becomes repetitive. By the end, I was so tired of doing the same **** over and over again. Put a trapmine there, stealth kill here, throw a molotov there, throw a bottle and grab him and then kill him. Over and over and over and over. Frankly, it was extremely boring by the end.

The visuals, acting, and music in this game are top-notch. Absolutely amazing, possibly the best I've ever seen, although I think the music in the first game was marginally better. The acting especially is straight movie quality - I think Ashley johnson hit it out of the park, and Troy Baker had one scene that I think was the best acted scene in the game (the last cutscene). Abby's actor was amazing as well, and although some of her moments weren't as emotional to me, that's less because of her acting ability and more because of the story's structure.

It's very disturbing to me that people who liked this game are saying that all the negative reviews are coming from transphobic, homophobic people. Ellie and Dina's relationship was actually a highlight, but it didn't get enough time. Reading some of the reviews I've learned that Lev is actually transgender. I had no idea, I guess that's why she wasn't supposed to cut her hair, but I never made that connections. I really hope ND doesn't just dismiss all of the negative reviews as homophobic **** because I really think the story has some genuine issues. In the same vein, this game is not a 0/10 or 1/10. The acting, graphics and music alone raise that to at least a 4, and I think the gameplay being decent and the story having some highlights raises that to just an average game. Because this is a story driven experience, the story has more weight in terms of how I would rate it. In the context of TLOU1, a 5/10 is a failure, but had this been a standalone game, it would've just been fine.

The way Naughty Dog is handling the critic is by laughing and using slurs and pulling out the homophobic and transphobic card on you if you hate their game. Truly pathetic.

The thing that didn't sit well with me, was that after rescuing Abby, she kills Joel. After some time, you will play as Abby for a whole 10-12 hours. If you hated how she killed a beloved character, this early into the game and how it was executed, your experience playing as her, trying to sympathize with her pain will be atrocious. To me, I had a really bad time

The game's characters are easily forgettable. I was already heavily invested in Joel and Ellie, that none could even hope to match them. Jesse, Manny, Mel, Nora, Owen? Didn't give a second thought about any of them.

You've done better, ND. But taking the piss out on your customers and disregarding their critic because it doesn't suit your little world of happiness and sunshine? Get real.

If you're one that loves a good story, I recommend you avoid this game. They basically flushed the franchise down the drain and mock its community.

However the writing could use some work; the flashbacks are really good though it truly has the spirit of the first game. Now everything that happens in the present is not as good. You can tell early on in the game where it just doesn't sound normal like it's forced in a way. Also some of the characters just do some stuff that isn't in there nature. They try so hard for you to sympathize with Abby, but it's hard to. I know that Naughty Dog can write incredible stories, and I think that's one of the main reasons it got so much hate. Now I wouldn't call it a bad game because it isn't. I also wouldn't call it the best game it's an average game. If it wasn't for the visual, and music part of the game then it would have flopped for sure. Also it's not the actors fault, so stop attacks them. They did the best with what they had. Expand

Game is solid. Doesn't stand up to the hype. Combat is servicable. Slow and clunky. No one really thought the highlight of the original was the combat system, but it makes a return with minimal improvement. 6/10

Graphics 10/10, this isn't surprising. It really is the highlight of the game. Everything that's done is mediocre, but you can experince mediocrity with a very pretty back drop.

Graphics 10/10, this isn't surprising. It really is the highlight of the game. Everything that's done is mediocre, but you can experince mediocrity with a very pretty back drop. Level design: lures you into a false sense of freedom, but all paths branch from, and converge on conflict areas that are completely unavoidable. There's little to do in the environment, with most exploration only rewarded with resources. Other than resources the only reward for exploration is the games collectables. If you ever wanted a coin/card collecting simulator, this game is for you! 6/10

Story: hate it. A simple revenge story that could have been entertaining, if the story didn't keep bashing you on the head very well known concepts. Yes, revenge comes at great personal cost... Yes, death and loss is traumatic... Yes, revenge starts a cycle of retaliation... it's almost condescending in it's constant harping on the theme. Almost as if the writers thought they had stumbled onto something new and profound. it falls apart in a final act that feels like all characters just completely lose all pre-conceived concepts and even common sense... and in the final scene it goes from harping on a simple theme, to trying to interject some new motivation that actually needs explaining, but does not. 3/10

I'd give it a 5, which is the average.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all hello videogames fans, i hope u get the time to read my review and not pull the trigger to quickly, also sorry if my english is bad (not a native speaker). Secondly I would like to talk about how much saddens me seeing in every place the comments for both lovers of the game and people that dislike it, being targeted as swj a**hole for ones and as homophobic, transphobic, misogynist...for others, is really sad that a video game has been reduced to this arguments for defending and at the same time criticize it. I am one that without any leaks played the game and personally wanted to like it but couldnt bring myself to it. First of all voice acting (im my country at least), graphics, ambientation... is perfect and I think that nobody can doubt that, it makes the game beautifull and lively. But not everything that shines is gold, at least that was the case for me. Yeah, I'm going to talk about the story, in this regard the first part of the game was "good" but lest not go ahead of ourselves and start from the beggining, the dead of someone so loved and controversial at the same time by everybody in this universe. I must say, that I don't consider Joel a hero, for me was a morally grey character that had done a lot of bad things, and that with the ending of the first game u could say perfectly that he was a selfish, lets say "father". Indeed he was, but I think that a great number people in that situation would have done the same thing, and I think, that because of that so many people could relate to him in some way. Now to the last of us part 2, so many people knew that joel was going to die, but that way of dying... I know what ND tries to do, killing someon so loved in such a brutal way just to cause hate in the people and give more sense to the revenge plot point but...why cause so much hate for that action and then put abby as the "morally white" character in the history? For me personally, it doesnt have any sense. I've read people saying, "If u think that is because u haven't understand the game, this a dark history with grey characters" I buy you the is a dark history (the sadness, emptiness and hate that I've felt is there to prove it) but the approach that they take is not based in grey moral characters, u have a dark one, Ellie in her quest for revenge, and a good/light one with Abby trying really hard that players like her, when is really dificult, again in a subjective and personal way at least, to do it. Abby is represented as an animal, child helper (that scene in the campment with the kids, trying to make everyone look good, and what a coincidence, being also in the scene that guy that spits on joel) trying to give u the impression that "hey, they are also a good person". As I was saying I couldn't feel that much empathy. This was also caused by, what I consider a bad choice of revenge for Abby. Don't get my wrong, I understand that Abby wants to revenge his father, that medic that u kill in the first game, that for everyone until this game wasn't more than a random npc. In that regard the same history could have been applyed to any of the fireflies memebers relatives, friends, etc. and I consider that is not well developed, they try to put everything togehther in this game (Abby's and Dad's past, which was someone that was a generic npc, and at the same time feel sorry for her despite how bad the game started with Abby). About Ellie part, I must say that it was alright, I know that the seek of revenge can make the best person become the worst against your enemies, but she was really rude to people that was close to her. And the ending for me is the worst part, the only person that lose everything is Ellie (yeah, I know, revenge is bad) but the case is, people try to defend this as "Abby also lose everything", I consider that she is the only of the 2 that, yeah Ellie and company kills all of her friends, but she has the posibility of a future with Leve, taking care of her and having an new "meaning" in life making Ellie at my eyes the only one that in the end lose everything and doesnt even have the option to avenge Joel after having lost herself through that revenge travel, and that really leaves me hearthbroken, sad and empty giving me a really bad taste and making that all the good points that the game has perish with it.
Now a few things that I didnt wrote and I would like to put them over here:
-Didn't talk about gameplay, is good (IA sometimes a bit easy in hardest difficulty, being able to stealth in front of enemys, maybe bugged I don't know) but pretty much the same as in the first one, liked the improvments with the silencer, weapon customization and crafting and the hand to hand combat.
    - Fireflies and trying to make you sympatethic for them, when they are pretty much the same as Joel, if not even more grey than he was, kidnapping people for the shake of finding the cure.
I hope that if u buy the game you enjoy it, sadly I couldn't bring myself to like it.

And for almost 40 percent of the game i'm playing as a character I don't care about and would rather see jump of a cliff anytime I am given the opportunity.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finished the game yesterday. Damn, what a **** it was at the end.
    But first of all:

    + Graphics
    + Environmentdesign
    + Sounddesign
    +/- Gameplay

Those are the good parts of Tlou2. It genuinly is fun, for me at least, to be in this beautifully crafted world. I had my fair share of fun scavanging trough it. And I liked the violent nature of it.

BUT: This game has the worst writing in a tripple A videogame, of this size, I've seen in a long time. And I mean it.

The structure is all over the place, but just not there, where it needs to be.
Most of the story is told in flashbacks. Understandable. Simply because there is nothing there to tell in this game besides Ellie taking out all of Abbys friends one after another. And then you play the game from Abbys perspective, where this game spends in it's last 10+ hours to force you to see how good of a person Abby as a human beeing is and let's you go from scene to scene estabishing that. ALL THE WAY. It's so bad, that you can actually tell in every scene "aah, we safe the zebra now, because Naughty Dog wants us to like Abby." or "ooh, we are beeing nice to strangers now, because ND wants to establish Abby as the good guy now." You can see right trough it and this is not how those tricks in storytelling work. Especially not when it's like hammered in your head constantly.

As for all the characters in the game: You don't care about them!
Simply because you can't get a grip of them. They change their mindset anytime, they behave stupid and predictable. And they all just die after a couple of minutes of screentime without having anything meaningful to say.
And the best part is: Some time after their death you get even more flashbacks to show how sad all of this is.

This game and it's message are not profound. It is stupid and/or meaningless and is handled not in the best fashion.

If this is the new "standard" for videogames, like a lot of critics of tlou2 say, then I go back to comicbooks.

I love the diverse representation in this game, love the graphics and the game play, I wish I could say that this game is great because that would be amazing and encouraging for a game with this level of diversity. There are some great moments, but the game just falls flat...

The issue with this game is not the story itself, it's not the characters, or even the event that happens early on which angered everyone (I personally think that needed to happen for the game to exist)
The problem is how the story has been told, it's the pacing, it's simply the sheer amount of time you are forced to play as an unrelatable , unlikable character. They could have told this characters part of the story in a quarter of the time they did (or going back and forth between this character and Ellie) and it honestly would have been more effective.

I can see why so many are disappointed with this game, what could have been something great was completely ruined by how the story was told. The heavy handed approach and trying to force empathy just had the opposite effect and made you feel frustrated and bored with the game.
This is the real reason I believe the game has had such a bad reception from the community it was made for, on top of that, the contrasting high reviews from critics just angers the community more and really shows how disconnected critic reviews are these days. It feels like we can't even honestly express our displeasure with something without being told we're "wrong".

At the end of the day, we're all just disappointed with a game we were so invested in emotionally and had so much potential to be great.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just so you know, I'm not review bombing. I will not get into the identity politics aspects of the game. I will just address the story. I play the first The Last of Us a couple of years after it came out. After hearing how good it was I purchased the remastered version for the PS4 play it and absolutely fell in love with Joel and Ellie. I felt heartbroken when I saw sam turn, for then Henry to take his life after killing his younger brother. I put myself in his shoes. I probably wouldn't have been able to pull the trigger. That moment stuck with me for a very long time. Just like the death of Sarah, the ranch scene, the time Ellie saves joel and Joel's learns to trust her. Those are the reason I loved The Last of Us. Because of the emotional character build up that the game allowed me to experience. Then came the announcement of this game. I was so excited about this game I wanted it the day I heard about it. Then I heard about the leaks. Given I went out of my way to play this game spoiler free, by staying away from comment sections, staying away from Twitter, Instagram, any youtube content that contained spoilers. I wanted to experience this game with no input from other people, and I succeeded. I managed to stay away from all spoilers, and experience it for myself. Played through it saw how Joel has his guard down and falls into a trap by literally putting him self in the middle of the room with compleatly unknown strangers. This is the man who ran over another because he felt like there was an ambush planed, and he lets that happen to him? Come on Naughty Dog you know better. You made the first game why is the original have such good writing and for the send off of a beloved character, you did this so lazily. Then you expect me to care about the person who killed him? No that's not how this works. Then Ellie goes off on a murderous rampage killing everyone in her way just to let her live? Ellie has lost everything and she gets to have a happy ending? I thought you loved these characters. I'm so disappointed with the story hat I don't know if I ever want to support any future endeavors. And yes I know I'm just one person but, i was a dedicated fan of this game and yeah I'm not owed anything, I have no entitlement to anything. And neither do you. I hope it was worth it to you guys to ruin such great characters for who knows what. Expand

But no game is perfect, as much of this game is extremely flawed. But first the Pros: As previously stated some of the story elements seem to be more well written than some of the others. The gameplay is fluid and satisfying, and all the animations, music, as well as the sound design, all show incredible feats of the push for perfection from Naughty Dog. However the majority of this game faces great criticism. So here are the Cons: The game seems to really push the idea that revenge is bad, and the cycle of it will just bring more hatred and destruction. However the idea is a tiny nail, being hit by the worlds largest hammer. The writers of the game made a story where in the game the "villain" of the story seems to get more revenge back than our main "hero". I put these in quotes because the game does a terrible job at establishing who our hero's and villains really are. A massive problem with any script or screenplay. I get the idea, but most movies and games that are successful normally provide context to who is the hero, and who is the villain. The second half of the story seems to just forget all of that which the first was building up. And trying to stay spoiler free here, one character in particular is connected to a very traumatic experience for another character, but seems to get off without any worry, as if nothing had ever happened. Most of the characters are given very terrible deaths. I won't go into them, but know that characters seem to die in the most pathetic way ever. And on top of their deaths, the people who witnessed them, never seem to bring up the fact that character died. With only one character getting mentioned frequently, but only because this persons death is heavily involved with the plot all about revenge. And lastly, characters are super underwritten, the characters of Dina, and Jessie, are cool in all, but we know nothing about them by the time that the game ends. And trust me what i'm about to say contains nothing that will be important to the plot. But all we know about Dina is that her sister died, and she knows what a synagogue is. Jessie has nothing other than that he had sex with Dina and got her pregnant a while before the story begins. Amazing character development Naughty Dog writers. All in all, the game suffers massively in the last half, but the first half is okay enough, with some actually good surprising moments that, along with its gameplay, it shines a very very light and pathetic light.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
