The first game was about love and it made every single person who played it cry because it hurt. This one is not about love, it’s about hate. I can honestly say if it had been fun or happy I would have been very disappointed. Thankfully it’s not fun or happy. It’s not meant to be. They want every piece of media to be fluffy domestic bliss. I can’t think of anything more boring than that.

Gameplay wise, they have definitely improved on all the original games mechanics. Although this one is much more heavily leaned towards wanting you to do stealth. The upgraded melee was particularly satisfying.

The graphics are amazing. Nothing else to say about them other than the lighting department needs a damn award.

Overall yeah. Absolutely loved this game. It hurt so good.

After a certain point you just want to put down the controller and stop playing. The graphics and technical details are amazing but you just want to skip the whole story and dialoges.

This is coming from someone who loved the story of the first game.
It's sad to see naughty dog in a state like this. I've always had high regards for older naughty dog titles but the way the company has chosen makes me rethink ever supporting them in future games.
    I feel let down.
The story as a whole feels cheap and the ending makes things pointless.

If you don't care game stories and want to play a game with great graphics and gameplay ported over from the last of us 1, this game is perfect for you.
If you were looking for an experience with the story like the first game, stay away from this game.

The gameplay is a bit better than the previous game, but not by much. The story? All I really have to say is... it’s just a weird fetish made by a man who gets his kicks out of muscular and lean women who brutally murder people. I don’t like the route this story has gone, I don’t appreciate how they introduced and took out Joel, I don’t like the way he made EVERY SINGLE female character look horrendous, and I really don’t appreciate playing as Joel’s murderer like we’re supposed to sympathize with her. Technical 5/5: nothing to say here, simply a technical masterpiece
Story 0/5 inconsistent narrative with poor choices, LOU II is the perfect example of how important story is for game, even with jaw dropping visuals. The reviews that compare the story to the last season of game of thrones and the latest star wars trilogy are totally correct, very inconsistent plot i rather convenient twists that betray the original nature of characters, new characters are not likable at all, and you really don't care for what happens to them. The deuteragonist concept is a really interesting one but to pull it off effectively you need way more than what was invested on abby who is just evil. Finally, the revenge is bad theme is extremely cliche, there are portions of the game where it seems over extended, forcefully running on an on around the same saturated premise. Gameplay 3/5: jumping and open levels add depth but gunplay is still blunt and abby's character punching zombies to death is a premise very well fitting for zombieland or shaun of the dead. Having to play as Abby (the director's beloved abomination) is uncalled for and in contrast to ellie and joel they seem to force you to like her through any means possible, this creates a portion of the game i didn't enjoy at all. i would like to state that i consider TLOU as one of the best video games ever made (if not the best). It is thia what brought me to play the game even after the leak scandal and the despicable attitude of an egocentric director towards those he supposedly works for.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. With an impeccable graphic presentation, pushing the Ps4 to the limit, TLOU 2 brings a mixed feeling.
The gameplay, almost identical to the original game, remains current and fluid. Exploration gained greater prominence, bringing more open areas providing a broader perspective of the reality of the universe in which the story takes place.
The plot is not well tied. Forgetting everything that was built in the first episode, especially the characteristics and the relationship of the people.
I understand the idea of using revenge as the driving force of history, but not even his initial tip-foot is sustained. The intelligence of the players is almost a debauchery. The characters who join this sequel really seem to pertrade the reality of the game.
The idea of bringing the villain's perspective is **** Using this artifice, we are stuck in this narrative wearing the fluidity from the story, making it tiring.
I believe that the biggest problem of the game is its outcome.
After everything the player goes through,
after all the challenges and losses Ellie has to deal with, failure to take revenge makes the journey seem empty and in vain.
Sad that a franchise that would not need a sequence has won one that deconstructs everything that was appreciated by its audience

Not only are the graphics and sound top notch, the production values are off the charts. Which was to be expected from a first party studio. Not only that, even the new character animations and rigging are also excellent. Characters move very naturally and transitions are almost seamless through most animations. As for the controls themselves, this game hasn't changed much since the first LOU. However, the writing and storytelling are quite frankly just terrible. You can't build characters over the course of an entire game, and then just for the purpose of clunky storytelling, have them act in a manner that is completely contrary to their personality as we know it. It's so bad, that the game is just hard to play, and at times you just have to turn it off. And without getting into spoiler territory I will juist say, the ending is atrocious. Anyway I don't see any need to drag this review out any further than necessary. Because this game is so technically impressive, I would give it probably an 9.5 out of 10, based solely on the graphics and sound. However, the controls and mechanics begin to become a drag pretty quickly. Being a story based game, where the storytelling and narrative are such an important aspect of the game, that is what really brings the score on this down for me. I would literally give the story a 2 out of 10. If you really enjoy the basic mechanics of this game, and you are not invested at all in the world building or characters int this game, then you might get more enjoyment out of this. Or if you've never played the first game, these problems may not seem as obvious. I feel ok giving this game a 5 out of 10, again, because the game is so technically impressive in some areas. Despite the narrative flaws I find in this game. I've tried to go into this and be as objective as I can. For everybody review bombing this, quite frankly I think the game is more than a 0 to 2. That's is a bit disrespectful, and disingenuous. Perhaps it is also a bit disrespectful the way they chose to treat their established characters in this story. As I stated before, if you are not at all invested in this story or characters, this game might be a 6 to an 8 for some people, based purely on it's technical achievements. Just wanted to add my 2 cents. Maybe this review will be helpful to somebody. Expand

Killing Joel and instantly destroying the connection the people had with him. And that s*x scene, at least give her fkn b**bs man, I gagged at that scene and with the music, it made it even more horrifying. I just wanted to play as Joel or even Ellie and them meeting different characters, factions, groups, govts or anything and surviving different situations and dangers. Opening up this post-apocalyptic world to us more than ever you know, kinda more like the walking dead game but better. Take me on an adventure and not some cliched revenge story eww. Fkn milk the game, maybe kill Joel in the third game due to him being bitten or something and us continuing to play as the ever-maturing Ellie. Something on those lines and I'll still buy the game man. But don't get stupid sub-plots and NPCs and suddenly making it/them relevant to the main story. As a narrative-driven game, your USP has to be an enthralling story which unfortunately was the worst aspect of the game. I'll still congratulate naughty dog for making a bold move with the story and honestly, they should've known it was gonna be a hit or miss and unfortunately it was the latter. Really had something going on for you, but I guess mistress Anita had to be satisfied. Kudos to the person who leaked the story-line, you saved money for a lot of other people who just might take a pass for this one and instead buy cyberpunk. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I finished the game and i have to say i have mixed feelings about it. First of i don´t wan´t to give a bad review because they do X or Y thing, or "this character" is male/female/dog, etc. So here comes...

Graphics: This is like God of War on the technical level, where they use 100% of the graphic power on the Ps4 or Ps4 Pro to the maximun, it´s looks gorgeous and the different places and little things like the snow, ice crack when you pass trhough it and that kind of things are top notch and we have to clap at naughty dog having and using the technology at best same with the characters models.

Animation: Another good hit, they really take time working on the animations to feel real in every kind of way, the backpack swinging when you are waking or running, taking out the machete out of the body and that feel it´s not so easy because of the flesh and bones.... nothing to say, just awesome on this part.

Sound: The sound it´s really good, sound immersive in this cold and desolated land with the clickers going around and the gun sounds outside and inside the buildings sound good and you can hear the difference between the guns

    Now on the other side.....

Story: It was a hit an miss, sadly in story driven games its the most important thing and sadly enough feels so forced from start to finish. And for that i would make an example of how new people playing would care more of Joel instead of how they killed him:

Imagine this: You play with Joel/Ellie for a bit scavenge things, they saw Abby's group and they fight each other because Joel said in the first game "never say your name and trust no one," and Ellie goes. Then Joel hear about they are gonna kill Ellie to make him suffer.
Then Joel kill a bunch of Abby's team and when he get there Abby is sitting on Ellie's back and pointing her with a gun on her head. Joel mad said "free her" and Abby's just laugh and said he is a murderer because he kill her dad and Ellie said "that's true" Joel said "I'm sorry it's true," and Abby's stand up to confront him meanwhile Ellie's is in shock because of the lie and Abby's start to get mad and they start fighting and in some point Abby shoot Joel and he in his last breath said, "I'm sorry Ellie, I lied to you because you are my only family."
Then Abby said "I finally get that **** look at Ellie and just go away." Now Ellie is sad/angry/confused because of this news and the dead of Joel while making his grave. Better script than the game don't you think?

And they decided to create 0 feelings towards Abby or trying to give more info why she wanted so bad to kill Joel in the entire game, meanwhile Ellie really doesn´t show how mad or shocked she is about the dead of Joel. Meanwhile Joel it´s not the character we know from the first game, he was always saying to Ellie that: "Never give your name and trust no one", instead he just said his name without a doubt in a couple of hours and like: "I´m ok *derp face*"

That´s a real turn off for any fan of this franchise because the characters from the first game are not in this sequel, and the whole idea of "revenge" it´s so cliché and predictable that lost the shock value from the first one.

Sadly Naughty Dog create an awesome game on the graphical side but horrible on the script side that for a game like this is the main core for your audience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Technical aspects: 8/10
The game play is solid, but this is no action game, some people may find it slow and boring. It is basically the first game but a little bit more polished. The biggest improvements here are graphics (obviously) and level design. I liked that the enemy executions are varied (wish God of War had this many different executions).

    Story/writing: 2/10
Too much plot induced stupidity, characters that were viewed as ruthless, intelligent and resourceful, commit mistakes and make ridiculous decisions just for plot advancing or to make the point the writers intended.

Most characters are bland. All the new ones to be honest. Their gender and sexual preferences end being useless traits and are there just because.

The story is dark and gritty just for the sake of it.

The moral aspect of the story is shallow. Another revenge story that ends with "maybe violence is bad"?

As they tried to shock the players and subvert expectations, they ended cutting Joel's screen time on the game, and since the main aspect of the story is Ellie and Joel relationship, the game became empty. They only interact meaningfully enough by flashbacks.

    Overall: 5/10
Play this if you liked the game play and mechanics of the first game and want to experience some of the best graphics of the generation. Story-wise, as the continuation of the original, this game is bad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In 2013 Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann introduced us to the thrilling world of The Last of Us. An action-adventure game with some survival horror touches, one of the best stories ever told in games, incredible characters and immersive gameplay. After 7 years they give us The Last of Us Part 2, and they hoped that it would surpass, as most sequels, it's predecessor.

The Last of Us Part 2 preserves, and even improves, some elements of the original game, adding dynamics such as jumping, the use of ropes and a better enemy A.I. This can make anyone think that this new game will deliver to its expectations. However, this is only during the first hour and a half. If we evaluate this section of the game, we will find a very dynamic and organic game with one of the best opening scenes of this generation, even worthy of a prize for Baker and Johnson.

It was a very good game until new characters were included such as Abby, a member of one of the new factions, the WLF, who seeks vengeance against Joel as he killed her father in the first game. Here is where the game starts flopping, as the introduction of these new characters seems forced and inorganic. Naughty Dog's idea was to make us empathize with them, but their background story, dialogues and performances are so dull that makes it difficult to do it. In addition to this, Joel becomes nothing more than an NPC with short dialogues and scenes that, in spite of a marvelous performance by Troy Baker, feels disrespectful to the main character of the original game. Joel was not the only character that suffered in this game as his brother Tommy is shown as weak and doubtful.

After playing for some hours, it becomes inevitable to notice the lack of chemistry between Ellie, Abby and their corresponding partners such as Lev, Yara, Dina and Jesse. Their dialogues become repetitive, boring and even dumb. The environments are so big that one can think there will be puzzles like in the first game. However, the development team got rid of all the puzzles and some exploration that made the first game great, making part 2 more lineal and boring.

Then, we get to Seattle and find ourselves with improved environments, filled with so many enemies that it becomes inevitable to start shooting and killing to that extent that it becomes even gory and perturbing. Perhaps Druckmann's idea was to make us feel bad about killing and revenge, but this is only delivered in a couple scenes where Ellie kills some secondary characters, including a pregnant woman. Was it worth it? I would not say so.

As a game, The Last of Us Part 2 revolves around revenge, and how bad it is, as premise. However, the lack of depth in the development of some characters, and the story itself, makes it a total flop for Sony, and Naughty Dog, who gave us their worst game since Uncharted 3. I mean, as an independent game from the franchise it's good, but it is not for a the last of us game.

Finally, one has to praise the technical part of the game as it gives us the best graphics of this generation, and Gustavo Santaolalla's work in the music is perfect. Nevertheless, the set of modifications made to the gameplay, as well as the boring and rushed story, makes this game one of the biggest disappointments of the gaming industry. Naughty Dog, you have failed us

It is very damaging that naughty dog proceeded to mislead its fans on what to expect from the game. No doubt the game has fantastic graphics and visuals. However, even though gameplay and some mechanics have vastly improved from the previous titles, there is that sense that a lot of things in the game can get repetitive very fast, especially stealth kills. It is also very obvious that gameplay mechanics from trailers were very highly exaggerated and scripted. What truly puts salt on the wounds is how disappointing the game can be to a player or fan almost solely due to the story. The game could have exceeded expectations and be something for the history books but due to a long wait and high hype and the way the story has unfolded, it has no doubt been a big cause of the game's failure of achieving that high statues that it was aiming for. It can be said that it is obvious that many of the so-called professional critic's reviews are very suspicious of being a shill. I do not wish to say that game is bad, because it's not really. Instead, that anger and disappointment from me and many fans of the series are directed on naughty dog's decision to be part of today's woke theme and its choice on what path the story took. This will certainly go down as a disappointment and tragedy in the gaming community. Expand

    The Last (Jedi) of Us
Visually impressive, but the story is a bad fanfiction stolen from Tumblr or something. The gameplay is too "samey", the characters are just a mess.
Don't mind the representation and all that, but I would've liked it more if the character were a little more likeable, not putting a trans looking person as "the bad guy" essentially. Of course it's not a 0 as some

For a simple message, I have not seen anything as silly as killing the most important character in the series. Ellie should have gotten her revenge. Joel died unnecessarily. The man's only problem was to save Ellie. The episode we play with Abby is a waste of time. If part 3 comes, my only wish is to write a story about Ellie's revenge on Abby brutally. I have nothing to say to the technical side of the game, it is a great game. Expand

But no **** that. Let’s just skip 5 years ahead and introduce a bunch of characters that we don’t care about. I found myself liking the game at the beginning but overtime it felt boring. They focused on too much story and not enough gameplay. In the first game you are running around as you try to flee for help which is a great introduction and then after that you go into this huge fight. But in the last of us part 2 the first 2 hours is just all story and barely any action. There was some really cool scenes and Joel making a dad joke made me smile so much, but besides that it was just eh... This game is just okay it’s not as bad as everyone is saying it is just mediocre. A huge wasted opportunity and a huge disappointment especially since it was from naughty dog. (Spoiler) also they killed ****ing Joel. When that happened it was like my heart was split into two. He meant so much to me and was such a good character. But they just decided to kill him off for the sake of a plot... If they wanted to kill someone off maybe make it Dina or Tommy. That would’ve been way better than killing Joel. I would’ve loved to see Joel and Ellie team up again and travel around searching for the killer of Dina and Tommy. I just have no interest of doing it with Dina and Ellie. One of my favorite parts of the last of us was the amazing father and daughter relationship between Ellie and Joel. But in conclusion this game is just okay it’s kinda fun but I ****ing hate naughty dog for killing Joel. If they do make a last of us part 3 it should just be **** the last of us 2 and completely ignore that the game existed and continue from where the last of us part 1 ended. I love the last of us so much and to see this game turn out like this just kills me. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Amazing graphics with immense detail and lush environments with wonderful sound design to give a eerie feeling when playing the game. Apart from the good two factions of the game trying to kill you and each other the story lacks in comparison to the first game. They killed the main protagonists of the 1st game in the first 2 hours of the game for shock value, very cheap move. It undermines Joel’s arc and personality; Joel is paranoid and doesn’t trust people and knows every trap by a human in the first game. He knows when he is outnumbered and doesn’t go to places where he can be easily overrun unless absolutely necessary. In this game he wonder into a home with 10-20 stranger with his also equally paranoid brother - Tommy. He does save Abby from the infected and his only option is the cabin, he still should have been careful and paranoid of them.

The whole point of the game is to have revenge for the killing of Joel by killing anyone associated with Abby and Abby. I’ve only played 11-12 hours of the game but I know the ending and leaks. The meaning and story revolves around vengeance it isn’t subtle and is badly done. The story is flawed by exaggerated moments and somehow pure luck of the character. The characters make stupid decisions that don’t make sense to a rational mind and overall most characters are bland. The story doesn’t hold gravity as it did with the Joel and Ellie/Father and Daughter bond. You play as Joel’s killer - Abby - for a large portion of the game and are meant to sympathise for her and her struggle and her past. This does not happen, you can’t sympathise with a person who killed your favourite character and are supposed to hate and play as her. We all knew Joel would die but it should have been better. Like a Heroic death or he gets bitten and doesn’t regret saving Ellie from the Fireflies. He could have gone out in a better way that a cheap shock value moment.

At the end of the game, you find a weakened Abby and attack and try to killer until Ellie gets a flashback to Joel and stops trying to kill her to let her go. This undermines the plot of the story and the arc of vengeance when she has killed everyone associated with Abby and countless others. Neil and the other writers try to make a message that “Vengeance is bad and it’ll take away everything from you”. The message falls short and just doesn’t make the story any less good. They also have this sub-plot about a supposed trans scars member and that falls short and doesn’t hold any emotional impact to the player. Some of the trans community and LGBTQ+ have also tweeted and stated this games creates a bad cliche character that is for the sake of diversity.

I could go on but I would exceed the character limit. The last of us two deserves either a 4-6 overall, I’ll put it as a 5 to be generous. The combat of the game is gritty and amazing to say the least. The story not so good, the story is not for the fans and it’s the writers ego (Neil) to think this storyline is bold when it’s just downright mediocre, horrid and flawed. That is my review.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played the game when it came out and I had high hopes considering the positive reviews and I hadn't read the leaks that came out.

A lot of people on this website complain that the game has too much SJW forced into our faces, but I don't see a lot of SJW put into faces. The only SJW content really shown is that Ellie is gay and dates Dina. This isn't a problem and is not that bad of a thing.

The biggest flaw of the entire game is the story that it revolves around. Graphics are breathtaking and the gameplay is similar to that of the first game, but the story writing is flawed. In the beginning, the game kills off one of the most beloved characters in gaming. I wouldn't have any issue with this if the character was given a noble death that may have been a bit longer in the story. The problem is that the character is killed off early and attempts to make you feel sympathetic towards the killers actions.
The game only attempts to make you feel sympathy halfway in the game when you obviously hate the killer and Ellie is in a heated moment.

One of the biggest story flaws I had was the ending of the game. The first game had me thinking whether Joel eradicating the fireflies and throwing away the fate of humanity was worth it. The ending had a bit of wholesomeness with Joel and Ellie retiring to Jackson.
This ending isn't wholesome or fulfilling;it's outright depressing.
The entire theme of the game is revenge and at the end, Ellie doesn't get the revenge she wanted and lets Abby go. Dina just straight up leaves Ellie and she is abandoned at the end. The ending had me depressed and feeling that none of the 30 hours I put into the game was worth it.

The Last of Us is the story of Joel and Ellie, and so is The Last of Us Part II.... or so i thought. There are improvements from the first game in terms of level design, graphics, and gameplay, all of which have been refined and improved. The sound, accessibility settings, and enemy movements, are other aspects that were improved mightly, and as a game, this one actually plays better than the original game. However, these improvements aren't enough to make up for the story that they gave fans.

What a slap in the face that was. Beloved characters were treated terribly and often made decisions that didn't match up with who we had seen them as before. A specific example is within the first 2 hours of the game, many of you will know what I'm talking about. I actually liked Jesse and Dina, although they were a bit underdeveloped as they focused more on building up unlikable characters. The first 10 hours is actually pretty good, but then there is roughly a 10 hour section of the game that was incredibly boring and frustrating to play as no matter what the writers did, it wouldn't change my opinion on the characters they focused on. There was only one enjoyable part during that section, which isn't enough to make up for the rest of it.

Then the writers make you dislike that character even more and it makes you think that you'll actually get a satisfying resolution just to end up getting an extremely sad and anticlimactic ending that ultimately made no sense.

I never wanted a sequel, as I wasn't sure that they could recapture the spark, and boy did my fears come true. Naughty Dog really missed the mark here.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here comes a legit review from someone that' sees the game for what it wants to say to the players. Something that's overlooked because you can't see clearly when you're disappointed and angry about the game.

The game is beautiful. A very complex story. Very hard to sink in. It kicks off with you being angry that one of your favorite characters gets killed so early in the game. I was too. I didn't like Abby at first. There were moments I wanted to give up playing because I didn't want to play her for so many hours. But I get why ND did this.
Abby kills Joel because he killed her father. The only one that could make a vaccine to save the world. Ellie seeks revenge now too and kills Abby's friends. Abby finds out about their deaths. She later finds where they are and kills Jesse, nearly kills Tommy, Dina and Ellie. Saved by Lev (the kid Abby has chosen to look after) that didn't approve of her actions. Revenge is a never ending circle.
You get to play as Abby and see a whole other side of her. Her life story. Purpose? To change the players view of her and forgive her. She had a big character development and so has Ellie and I'll get to that.
You get to see how Abby changes in the game when she chooses to take care of two kids over her own crew (The WLF). Also the kids were Scars. The WLF and Scars are fighting each other. One of the kids gets killed bu WLF soldiers and so would the other kid if Abby didn't stand in their way. She defied orders to step aside to protect the kid. This reminds me of how Joel starts to see Ellie as a daughter and takes care of her. You get to play Joel but in a different body.
Now Ellie hunts down Abby again. Finds her strapped to a pole at a beach. She was exhausted. She lost a lot of muscle mass. Ellie pities her and cuts her down. Abby goes to cut down the kid that was also at the beach. She later carries him and goes for the boat at the shore. Ellie later gets a flash back of Joel of how he died and she couldn't let Abby go. Abby didn't want to fight, she only wanted to take care of the kid. Ellie later threatens to hurt the kid which is unlike Ellie. They start to fight and Ellie has the chance to end it all but chooses not to. She lets Abby go free. Ellie made peace with her demons. She didn't any longer care after all hard work just to kill her. It was not worth it. When you think about it Ellie was in the same position as Abby was before she killed Joel. She probably imagined her of the same situation and chose not to be just like her back then. She chose to be better. Imagining the kid would lose a sister figure. I loved the fact that Ellie let her go. Abby is a good person.
Ellie later returns home with Dina and their baby gone with only Joels guitar left. She's unable to play because of the loss of her two fingers. She leaves the guitar that symbolises that she leaves Joel's memory behind. And she walks away.
People are just too angry to see this. They look at it too simple. This is a complex story. A beautiful story. It wants to teach that there's much more than just killing someone for revenge. That person also has a life and people they care about. It's not so simple. The game wants us to think clear and forgive. For what is right. Not for what would feel right when eventually nothing good will come out of it. It's easy to hate someone. It's harder to forgive someone. Be stronger like Ellie.

    Graphics really good.
    Audio really good.
Gameplay feels like the last of us 1 and that's good
Story is too complex for most people to comprehend. For me it's really good
All the crafting options you get to choose from is really good
New kind of skill trees. Really good
Character story and development. Some too simple and some really good.

This is supposed to be a story. Just as much if not even more than a game.
Which is why a negative critique is in order. When you consider its prequel.
The last of us 1 was a good story, because it was a story, not just a string of events, that let you be part of it. Let you tag along.
Here you are basically takes by the neck and pushed face first into everything the writer(s) think(thought) you HAVE TO experience. With the dark tones and violence to make up for anything that is acutally engaging.
    And that is just lazy.
With far too many missed opportunities for actual depth.
It really feels like more of a celebration of some suppressed adoration for violence, that the writer(s), than anything else.
Violence turned up to 11. Is this still a game? Should one still be allowed to call it that?

This makes it a very, very uncomfortable experience. In the way it is uncomfortable when somebody who you just got to know, who are drinking a beer with, everything being amicable, suddenly starts to tell you how he wished someone would kill all the...you get my point.

Yes I liked the first game. No I do not recommend to those who are looking to play the sequel. Story-wise.
Because it is a COMPLETELY different kind of experience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can not begin to explain how upset and disappointed I am with this game. I played the last of us (part 1) back in 2014. I fell in love with the story and characters. It was in my top 3 favorite games. The first game was so well made, story and graphics. People have been waiting 7 years for this game. I’m pretty sure everyone had high expectation. I definitely did. The graphics of the game are completely outstanding and they put a lot of detail into it. I will not discredit that. The story is the most disappointing part. There could have been so many different outcomes to the story. I think that they pick the worse one. The players that have been here since the beginning; who have a emotional connection to the characters and story, understand why. The fact that Joel died is already heartbreaking, he didn’t need too. What makes me the most upset is that, they didn’t even give him a meaningful death. The death only happened to set up a plot. Which isn’t even a good plot. What makes it even worse is that the advertising/trailers for the game made it seem like Joel was not going to die and be a completely different story. I wish they would have done it completely different. I am not a bot. These are my true feelings on the game. I feel like most people would agree too. Expand

Plus the ability to alter game play for players with different disabilities so it’s inclusive for all players it top notch! Best $60 I’ve ever spent! Just finished this... Graphics are great, game play fantastic and all this is fun. Its a Shame they didn't wait for PS5. Ashley Johnson & Troy Bakers performance was great as was most of the cast.

But lets get this out the way Neil Druckman said that there was never a sequel planned for LOUS, but there is one choice at the end that is forced on you by the game You Have to Kill The Doctor to save Ellie...... Let that sink in and remember it.

However the games story is a by the book revenge story uroboros (the snake that eats itself).. the game force feeds the player this treatment. As a result the game has lost its appeal due to its treatment of its characters. Abby's dad is the doctor at the end of LOU 1 and this chapter of the game has even less of an ending than LOU 1. So its obvious that there will be a LOU 3.

I was vested in the return of Joel & Ellie and the game takes a giant dump on Joel and leaves Ellie's character wanting. Totally took me out of emersion seeing Neil Druckmann on a trading card and then as an actual character who spits on Joels body. (don't fool yourself, that's Druckmann). How meta & edgy.

Abby's character was two dimensional and needed better writing. If her story is to be continued in last of us 3 it needs a lot of work. Her story kind of starts where Joel was at the start of the LOU 1. She has lost someone important and has done bad things going on from there. She meets someone that turns her life around (Liv) just like Joel. Helping Liv turns abbys path away from destruction to building something good for herself. I feel there was two stories and the melding got lost in the process of making several shock moments that are supposed to tie the stories together. The attempt to make the player bond with abby was off the mark.. it needed more work and perhaps putting it at the front of the game rather than the middle would have worked better.

I loved Dina & Liv they need more story time perhaps in LOU 3 or DLC. The game mechanics where very similar to that in last of us with a slight improvement. Many Players left wrecked and wanting justice for Joel #Justice for Joel. Ending was very wanting and left me as a player feeling very let down... I think that the marketing lies also added to this feeling, As if I was tricked into buying it almost. believing that after a seven year wait I as getting more of Joel & Ellie. I waited for a planned sequel that was just filler for the LOU 3 (its coming, believe me, naughty Dog Only has the LOU & crash bandicoot to work with after Druckmann disposed of Amy Hemming and ended her creation Uncharted).

I have spoken with other players and their reaction to Joel was the same (many female). The sex scene with abby was forced and badly done and left the player feeling soiled in a way, there was not the connection you have with Ellie & Dina in their scenes .

I Give this a 5/10 Because of the story mess, you had seven years and you copied & pasted the walking dead plots. do better Naughty dog. l would wait & Buy this game when the price drops #Juticeforjoel

One finial thought which was never brought up... the Fireflies were a faction in the LOU world. If Joel had agreed to let them create a vaccine (if it was a 100% assured (which it wasn't) a lot of the letters / docs found indicated they were not as competent as they made out. Would they have given the vaccine to everyone or used it as a tool to control people / against other factions??

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The storyline in this game was generic and repetitive especially in the second half of the game. The cycle of revenge between either side was pointless and what I mean by repetitive. Spoiler Abby killed Joel. Then Ellie wants revenge. She killed all the group of the Salt lake squad. Abby finds out and went to confront Ellie. She killed Jesse and let Ellie go. Few months/Years, Ellie wants revenge again and asked Abby to fight her. After all, this happened, She let her go. So repetitive! Ellie killed a pregnant woman and all Abby's friend and she didn't kill Ellie? Because the scar child gave her a look? But she brutally killed Joel. We all know Joel was not a good guy. He was a smuggler and a murderer before he met Ellie. He didn't even want Ellie. However, there should be justice like Arthur Morgan in RD2. He is still a character we loved. I don't mind if he died really. All decision has consequences. Also, the fact that you are playing the person that killed one of the major characters that you love in the first game and tries you to feel bad for this person that you really don't care. I was on Ellie's side all the way. I get why she has to kill Joel but I really don't care about her which ruin half of the game. If Abby's story was a DLC then I probably wouldn't mind. I also like to point out that Ellie's storyline in Seattle was more of a generic video game story. Like you have to find and kill the other people of the group before you fight the main boss. That's a Basic storyline. What happened to the emotional storytelling for example when Joel fell from the balcony and got stab by a pipe or something. He nearly died. He was sick for a month and Ellie was captured by a paedophile and was about to get abuse. Joel has to save her but she's the one who killed the man. That was an emotional scene and a perfect example of great storytelling.
I agree with the mechanics, graphics, AI, etc. It's impressive, beautiful and the fact that PS4 released 7 years ago

-The story, oh god the story. To put it in quite a few words: It tries to be very realistic leaning to pessimistic in a dystopian/nihilistic world (this is my kinda stuff), HOWEVER it executes the premise (which honestly had potential) in such a plain, unmoving and even illogical manner. I don't care if x or y dies, but I'd like to actually feel the death to get invested in the whole revenge thing. Also the ending is unsatisfying and not even in the well-done way, but just kinda "Oh ok then".

To sum it up, for a story-driven game it sucks BAD, but everything is alright to pretty good so if you don't care about story then go ahead, you'll enjoy it. But if you in it for the story turn back now and just keep your head-canon limited to the first game.

Well let's start, the reason that I am giving five it's just because of the gameplay and graphics, it looks so awesome, but when it comes to story, it is so bad, they could have done so better, in the first last of us you kill thousand and thousands of people and only one of them has a daughter and that same daughter wants to kill the guy that killed her father, and the only info she gets it's his name, so you are telling me that the guy that teached Ellie and us (gamers) not to trust anyone by all costs, enters a mansion with 10/11 strange persons and say his name and where his hideout is it's just stupid, if you guys didn't noticed only when joel says his name the group started acting strange, if joel said another name he wouldn't die, it's like they killed Joel only for having a story!

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This games visuals are outstanding, the gameplay feels adequate although very similar to the original from 2013. 2 points.

Some effort seems to have been made to improve upon some of the old features but this seems lacking. (Adding a jump button doesn’t really count as groundbreaking) 1 point.

The character acting and the Mocap work is first rate and second to none and this alone scores 2 points from me.

Where this game falls apart is in its horrible story, I fell in love with Ellie and Joel from the first game and was promised a continuation of their story, what I got was two characters who acted completely differently to the Ellie and Joel I knew, and other characters I just didn’t care about and abbey infuriated me! Watching her kill Joel Then forcing me to play as her for hours! I quit the game in disgust and refused to play on.

I have since watched the story through YouTube and it seems I made the right call. It doesn’t get any better, only worse.

Thankfully Australian law meant I could refund my game so I Didn’t lose any cash over this.

My recommendation is if you want to see the story watch it on YouTube but if you still really want to play this game wait 6 months and pick It up on sale in the discount bin. That’s were it’s headed.

I didn't. Due to my dislike of her, her sections in the game felt incredibly boring and drawn out, ultimately making this a chore to play.

Graphically, the game is absolutely beautiful. Voice acting is top-notch, animations are well done - as expected from a big budget production game.

Gameplay-wise, nothing has really been changed from the original, and rather, it seems as though there were less environmental puzzles. A jump feature was added in that I found to be useless.

But the main appeal in the original was the story that had you invested into these characters. That gets thrown out the window here, as any character development you saw previously gets undone by terrible writing.

Gorgeous visuals can't save this mess of a story, which unfortunately adds up to it being a huge waste of both your time and money.

The AI is incredibly dumb on anything except the hardest difficulty, the story is drawn out with the most obvious meaning, and nothing has evolved from the TLoU1. The characters dramatically different and make mistake after mistake through the whole game to the point that it's unnatural. Druckman I think let the TLoU1 get to his head a bit because this game's story constantly tries to come off as clever when in reality its drilling every little thing in for an ending that is both unfulfilling and attempting to be deeper than it actually is.

For those both on Youtube and people from Naughty Dog screaming about the lack of context.. The context makes the leaks that much more worse. If you're going to play something play part 1 and tell yourself that Part 2 is non-canonical. Save yourself the time, irritation, and pain that comes with this game trying to hand fist obvious messages about revenge with bad design and writing. To the outlets giving this game a 10 out 10 who claimed there was some big thought provoking narrative: You're out of your mind. The game should be judged on how it runs, looks, and the story behind it. TLoU2 will take you through 20-30ish similar albeit beautiful environments, deal with an AI that has no depth, and take you down a story that discusses revenge and the cycle of repetition that will leave a person with nothing at the end. I will say there was potential here but the game stops you every 5 seconds per cutscene with gore porn to say "SEE ISN'T THIS BAD? LOOK AT WHAT THE REVENGE AND HATE IS MAKING ME DO!". By the time you get to about 4 hours in, you will feel as though someone is grating the side of your brain with sand paper as it tries to mold you into thinking a certain way. It's divisive in the sense that either one your mind is so shallow that it will appear so deep and thoat provoking or two you find you have a mind of your own and see the game doesn't want you to have your own thoughts on the subject matter it is presenting.

Don't do what I did. I saw the leaks and still made the decision that I needed to see if it was really as bad as the leaks stated. I implore you if you're curious about the TLoU2 to borrow or rent this one. Don't spend $60.00 on this mess and go and buy TLoU1 remastered. See the game that made Druckman great. Not the one that was created from his mental high horse and forgot about what made the original great in the first place.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics Look Next gen.Sound effects sounded true and brutal.Gustavo songs far and few.my favorite songs came from all of ellies guitar playing, the song that joel plays for her in the beginning of the game.ND has found a great way of using the swipe bar on the PS4 controller allowing you to play guitar. The combat the same as the first game and is frustrating at times.the melee system is kinda clunky, the shooting is very slow and inaccurate. If anything i feel the prone button came in way more useful then the jump and they should have hyped that up more because it was extremely useful and long overdue feature that was finally added. The dogs was a very bad choice in my opinion. Now the story. The first half playing as ellie was more or less fine. The joel death scene in particular should have been done a different way if he wanted to do that story.First off joel and tommy save abby and within 5min of gametime i think it was shes blowing his leg off and playing golf on his head. That specific part felt rushed, and not fleshed out.It was also out of character for tommy and joel to just reveal their base along with their names .The flashbacks in my eyes stole the show and really hit an emotional beat.My issue with this is they were far and few between. The first one in particular was sweet and a feel good sad moment for the player. So for ellies side of the game neil wanted to convey that she wants revenge for joel but it becomes pretty clear that is not the only thing that is bugging her.Throughout the flashbacks you find out that she is beyond upset with joel and finds out he lied about the hospital incident. So all the time your playing as ellie you slowly see her get worst and worst descending into darkness. They honestly could have just done ellies side up until she hunted down abby and exacted revenge. I felt the game did not need much of abbys side story at all.You could have just told her story via cutscenes throughout ellies trip to finding ellie.I did not enjoy playing as abby at all once i was forced too.As i got more into the cult part with lev i did take a tiny bit of interest but nothing huge.To me abbys section of the game felt almost like another game entirely. You find out that lucy(lev) was actually the trans player people were referring too.I dont think there was an agenda here.Lev becoming trans fit into the story of the seraphites not accepting him and hunting him down.So i dont feel that trans was forced into the game.i feel like ellies relationship felt true and honest,my only complaint is that ND chose to focus on fleshing out an unlikable character abby instead of a likeable character dina.I think the story would have been alot better exploring ellies and dinas relationship further as ellie slowly loses her mind to hate. Most of the charachters on abbys side i hated.Owen had good character ark and is the only one outside of yara and lev that i actually felt somewhat invested in.Now the ending parts of the game. You are forced to fight ellie as abby after she just killed jesse and what appeared to be a gunshot to tommys head.Trying to recreate that father/daughter relationship joel had just annoyed me and made me dislike abby more.no fault to laura bailey did a very good job and trying to make abby relatable and have empathy for. Then they show ellie back on the farm with dina.Tommy gives ellie all this info and wants her to finish abby. She doesnt think she can and tommy just starts hating on her because of it saying stuff way out of line.Whether its grief that he had or brain damage thats causing him to act like that it defintely does not feel true.the ending scene with abby and ellie fighting it out.The scene it self was well done.Sadly it ends with ellies 2 fingers getting bitten off and then letting abby just leave. This felt unsatisfied and pretty much made me question why this game was made even in the first place. If he was going to do that then he needed to spend more time emphasizing ellies departure into the darkness and how she just cant let the hate go instead of a side story about abby's fight with the seraphites. The ending scene when she arrives back to dina and the house is empty was pretty sad and did a good job emotionally but there was so much more room to emphasize with ellie they could have done to really bring a tear to your eye.I only got teary eyed during the final scene with joel and ellie talking about she just cant forgive him. This scene needed more because it was on the verge of being really emotional but its like the writers just decided to hold back.just an ok game and makes me sad that they chose to flesh out abby rather then focus on the true stars of the game joel and ellie. The game would have benefited more from flashbacks showing more of the anger she slowly kept getting towards joel finally leading up to an emotional ending scene where she finally tries to forgive him.Hell it would have been even better to have tommy give ellie a final letter from joel. An OK game Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Naughty Dog is a (deeply) flawed hero in this story. I can understand the parallels between Ellie and Abby: both of them lost so much due to hatred and revenge. I understand the immersion with the character that Naughty Dog tried to make between us and Ellie: (HEAVY SPOILERS!!!) When Abby kills Joel, Ellie is **** pissed, and we are **** pissed. When Ellie questions why did that happen, we question WHY DID THAT HAPPEN (naughty dog)!? By the end of the game, after going in a killing spree, Ellie feels uncomfortable, and so do we. We realize the consequences of hating and the eternal cycle of vengeance, just like Ellie, and to break this cycle (Lev would probably go in revenge after Ellie if she had killed Abby), Ellie chooses to spare the person that made her transform into something practically inhuman. The idea of this kind of immersion with a character is one of the most amazing ideas I have ever seen in entertainment history. The choice of killing Joel early on is one of the most bold moves i have ever seen in my life: it´s unfair... it´s **** disappointing... but it serves the idea of connection between character and player (or at least it should). That said, the gameplay, the graphics, the level design, the accessibility, and the CONNECTION between player and character are breathtaking (NOTE: I said the CONNECTIONS between player and character, and not the characters themselves, with few exceptions). The 10-hour long gameplay with Abby was unnecessary. I understand that Naughty Dog wanted to present the ultimate lesson that we can extract from this game: It doesn´t exist good or evil. All that exists is the point of view (or some **** like that). With a 30 minute or an hour gameplay we could have know all that we should know about Abby and her motivations, and the people that she cares about. But she IS the villain. Why would you wanna play for more than 2 hours as the villain of a game? Why does this game have to act like the world is 90% of the time a cruel place, and that ultimately there is more "bad" than "good"? Why does it has so much negativism in such dark times? Why wouldn´t you feel the same connections and lessons by keeping Joel alive for more than 2 and half hours? Joel being alive could add SO MUCH MORE in terms of gameplay and more in therms of history. Imagine that in the 5 years time jump between the first and the second game, Ellie actually had built an extremely deep relationship with someone (Dina maybe). A relationship that was the OPPOSITE of what it was with Joel, and with that, Ellie actually had a bigger emotional gap between her and him. Because she found out the truth. And she found out that she was starting to become like Joel. So she pushed him away and found love with someone else. The same **** in Jackson with the WLF, only this time Joel doesn´t die. But Jackson does, maybe Tommy as well. Not only Ellie would be **** pissed off but Joel would too. Imagine a more brutal combat with JOEL. A man who had everything taken away from him. But in case if you´re wondering "Wouldn´t this compromise the emotional relationship that we have with Ellie? I mean, we have a much deeper connection with Joel then with Tommy and a bunch of generic NPCs, because we played with him during the entire first game. So killing somebody other than Joel as a motivation of vengeance for Ellie wouldn´t cause the same impact and rage on US, and consequentiy we wouldn´t have the same connection we have with Ellie when Joel was killed". I understand that. I DO. Naughty Dog had to sacrifice Joel in order to deepen an emotional connection between us and Ellie. But it could have been in SO MANY different ways. Joel could have feel guilty because he had put his guard down with Abby and because of that he blames himself for the destruction of Jackson. So we would play the 10 hour section with JOEL, and not Abby. By mid-game he could die in a more meaningful way, maybe he could die learning an ultimate lesson that we would only discover when playing with Ellie, maybe he should have achieved some level of redemption for all horrible things he did. It´s a real shame ND just cutted off the connection between Joel and Ellie in favor of some parts, that weren´t really necessary and could have been avoided. My admiration for Naughty Dog improves a little bit when I take a look at their point of view, and the genuine balls they had on killing off this iconic character in favor of something new, and an amazing connection between player and character. But ND also had to assume the possibility of dissappointing their fans. And as we can see by these scores (most from people who didn´t played the game, but still) people are pissed. A BIG part of me is **** pissed. I don´t know if anyone is gonna see this but I HAD TO LET IT OUT. What a shame Naughty Dog. Hopefully you get the chance of having the redemption that Joel never had. 5/10 - Congratulations, you may have just broken your fanbase in two. Expand

Amazing. **** all these people trying to bomb the game's score. Buy it and play it yourself to have your own opinion. Naughty dog knocked it out of the park. 100/10

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
