The scriptwriters hated firat gen characters so much that most them died or badly injured. Tommy came out as the only guy survived throughout the whole game with a severely injured body. Those who gave high score definitely did not appreciate how interesting was the first game. The characters development was so good compared to the second part. Joel used to not trust anyone and now telling outsiders who he is? Heavily pregnant Mel running around like her belly made by metal? Same logic goes to Dinah. Ellie overcame so much just to forgive the one she hated the most even she vowed not to let her go throughout the story? Abby saved two children from opposition gang and protected them juz bcos they are young but did not hesitate to kill Joel who saved her as well! No mention of Jesse the father of Dinah's child after one year event at all but instead D+E? Messy timeline especially the ending part could have ended at the farm. Expand

Cormac Mccarthy-esque in execution. I don't think I've experienced a story as soul destroying and enthralling since Berserk or The Road. Revenge always ruins lives and costs more than one could imagine the could lose along the way. Brilliant acting and motion capture. Amazing graphics and combat/stealth mechanic s. HBO has their work cut out for them to adapt this.

I think the gameplay of last of us part 2 is really good and fun and I think the story is well done. However, having completed the game I can see why people are angry I would say if you haven't played this and decided to, the story might not be your cup of tea however I liked and I thought it was a good sequel even if it is not as good as last of us 1.

After playing this game, i am sad i didnt stop playing after the first one. The way Naughty dog handles certain aspect is really really untastfull. As if that isnt bad, their interaction on social media towards critiscism is even worse. Come on guys, its not the end of the world if someone dissagreess.

Gameplay is okayish, more of the same from the first game. second part of the story

Yes, I really believe this game deserves a 0 and I'm going to explain why.

The only positive qualities of this game are the graphics, level design, music and the game runs with very little performance issues. These positives would normally be enough to make a game at least above average in the 5 to 7 range but the endless negative qualities destroy all of this. I cannot recommend more that no one ever play this game because of the negative qualities.

Gameplay is overrated and ends up being underwhelming. In seven years, the only newly added gameplay aspects on top of the first game is the ability to prone and squeeze through tight narrow passages. On face value these additions to gameplay seem slick and are incorporated well into the level design but they are not industry innovative and not nearly enough to make you forget that you need to mash a single button repeatedly during QT events. The melee combat is uninspiring while the gunplay is merely acceptable.

Perhaps the real problem for Part 2 is that the first game exists allowing Part 2 to be viewed in comparison. The first game was a masterpiece because it built up the characters and their relationship so elegantly. The conclusion was reached in a such a meaningful way that its impact will be fondly remembered for the rest of my life. Nothing about Part 2 comes close except for a few flashbacks that ironically remind you what it might be like to play a good game.

The creators of Part 2 eagerly abuse the players emotions by exploiting what was built in the first game just to manufacture a driven plot. This is the height of laziness that is only confirmed by the numerous plot holes and Dues Ex Machina. The creators of Part 2 fail under their own weight as even the conclusion in this nightmare is wholly unearned. The message of Part 2 is completely lost because of how incomprehensible and irredeemable the characters and plot are.

Part 2 is so bad that if the first game never existed, The Last of Us Part 2 would aptly be described as torture porn. The creators of this game should feel ashamed to have created this dumpster fire called The Last of Us Part 2. If I worked on this game in any compacity, I would hide this fact from the world to save myself from endless embarrassment.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. Save yourself from this joke game which will forever live in infamy.

This is supported by the fact that in key moments the player has no means of choice or reaction as they cannot follow another approach other than the pre-determined narrative = social agenda.

Now, for those not interested in the story, yes the graphics in part 2 are amazing no doubt, the sound is awesome,UI works well and everything from a technical perspective is well polished, but it is the story that made the first part an epic example of solid storytelling in gaming history. Unfortunately TLOU2 is a letdown.

So with the Last of Us 2 I hoped Naughty Dog would further explore this wonderful relationship, which was left at its very early stages. So many possibilities and stories were ahead of them. Sadly Naughty dog instead chose to destroy these characters, to subvert expectations in the name of shock value. For me the first was endlessly playable thanks to its brilliant writing and thread of hope that kept the characters and the players hooked. None of that is here, no hope, no levity. Just a bleak and depressing plot. One which i do not wish to play again. At least I still have the first.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For a story-driven game this is the equivalent to a bad fan fiction written overnight or B-side horror flick only seven years in the making, backed by triple A money and made by the supposed cream of the crop in the creative industry today. A hack and slash blood-fest tale of a girl gutted of all that made her adored and cherished in this game's predecessor, bent on cold hard (*cough* dull) vengeance at the cost of hundreds of human lives. (Because Joel's death mattered, who cares if hundreds of people have to die, their lives were nothing compared to Joel's!) A grim, emotionless Ellie who by the end is trumped in likeability and redeemable qualities by the very villain she's trying to kill. A villain who goes through the cycle of revenge *for* Ellie to learn from, who consistently rises above the themes of revenge that Ellie can't and becomes a better person for it (letting Ellie and her friends live twice over) and reclaiming some form of a life.

Okay, story told, lesson learned right? Ellie and Dina living their dream happily ever after. Alas, the character assassination continues. Ellie can't sleep, can't eat... consumed by Joel's death. There's only one thing for it... Abbie must die! That's when I knew that this bad game was sinking even lower. Character development, story arc? Forget about it, Cue inevitable showdown, finally a resolution! Ellie will kill Abbie, and suffer all the ramifications this brings. Well, nope. She'll just kill a few more humans, stab Abbie a few times and almost drown her to realise what it took Abbie seconds to realise. We are robbed of the satisfaction of her doing the mistake she set out to do the entire game, in favour of this light bulb moment we already got hours before from Abbie. She goes back to an empty house. Revenge is bad.

You know what else is bad? This game. I don't care how gorgeous your graphics are. Don't force me to kill hundreds of people and a dog in the name of revenge and then have the audacity to tell me that I can't have my revenge because revenge is bad and I'm a bad person for wanting it, bad bad and shame on me!

I don't know where most of the controversy came from on the trans character. personally it made sense in the context of the game. but playing as Abby and attempting to kill Ellie was what drop my score to a 7. I almost completely stopped playing because I feared that I would end up killing one of the most beloved video characters of this decade. but I fought on and finished it. in the end I liked the ending, I understood the emotion implications and why Ellie did what she did. but I couldn't help but root for Ellie to kill Abby, Naughty Dog did a terrible job trying to make us like her character. I hate Abby with a passion. I give the game credit as it is hard to make a game better than the first "Last of Us" but I think maybe they should of left this game alone. the first game inst tarnished for me but I could see how it could do so to others.

A simple revenge plot screened by paper-thin characters who undergo very little development throughout the absolute mockery of a story. Beloved and established characters present from the first entry are immediately made to act in ways contrary to their initial personality to their detriment with zero explanation as to why this had occurred. The attempt to create depth and resonance with the player in regards to introducing new characters is cringe worthy at best.

Ultimately, this game will be remembered for the story it was attempting to deliver. On that facet alone, do not purchase this game and treat the first game as a stand alone masterpiece.

I’m gonna start off by saying that I don’t like this type of gameplay, but I enjoyed the last of us one because of the story and characters, I wish I could say the same thing about the last of us 2, I literally felt empty throughout most of the game the only good parts were the intro and Ellie’s flashbacks. I get that they’re trying to explain that revenge and vengeance are bad and they Will never have a good outcome but this isn’t how you explain it. Take for example the god of war series, they explained it perfectly. Cratos basically killed all of his enemies but the lesson learnt was that killing them could never bring him peace nor bring back his family. However in this game Ellie literally loses everyone she loves and never gets revenge.
Also do you really expect us to forgive or sympathize with Abby simply because you gave us her backstory at the worst time possible? I never expected NaughtyDog to make a story this bad and if someone told me this story before the game came out I would think they Were reading fan fiction, save your money.

All the game reviews from June 19 are one big joke from people who didn't play the game and quite possibly don't even own it. They just read the spoilers and don't tell the whole story.
I finished the game in 38 hours, divided into 6 days.
TLOU2 has well-written characters that fit perfectly into the built world from the first part. The story is strong and at times disturbingly

TLOU2 has well-written characters that fit perfectly into the built world from the first part.
The story is strong and at times disturbingly believable.
The graphics are again at the highest level of the current console generation.
Acting performances are at the Oscar level.
Gameplay is a solid evolution from the first part.
The combination of everything creates a very engaging atmosphere, which it maintains until the final headlines.

If you enjoyed the first part, you will definitely enjoy the second part as well.
    I highly recommend.

I waited so long for the successor and was unfortunately disappointed.
Joel's death was very frightening, but unfortunately predictable in my eyes. Ellie's revenge is therefore "justified". During the time you played Ellie, I had a lot of fun with the game and the flashbacks made the game perfect for me ...
But then there was the switch to Abby ...
From this point on the game only hurt in the heart. Why should I have fun playing the character who killed my beloved Joel ??
Ellie got a soul from Joel and I loved that about her so much. But then you play the psycho monster Abby and it's just cruel.
Now a few words to the end: I've never had a more unsatisfactory ending in a game than in The Last of Us Part II.
It may be that the developers wanted to make it clear that revenge is never worth it because Ellie ultimately lost everything, but that makes the end of the game so incredibly unsatisfactory.
My expectations were huge ... and they were smashed to the ground.

There are so many great points about this game that are relatable. There is no pure evil and also no pure good. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics are the best there are but that's it. The gameplay feels clunky just like the first one. It's almost no different than the first one, barely any improvement in this section. Soundtrack is on par just like the predecessor and the acting is good but the dialogue feels forced. And the elephant in the room, the story. From the first two hours we see a shift in Ellie, Joel and Tommy, as if they are not the same characters that were before. Having Joel die so early on and with such meaningless is very disrespectful to the character and it does nothing else than to shock the audience. Then forcing to play as Abby. That character feels forced into the story, trying to empathise with her but all it does is taking away the interest of the player in going forward into the story. Lastly the ending. We are forced to go on a path of revenge as Ellie for almost 25 hours only to kill everyone that had less to do with Joel's death but the story leaves the killer get away with the murder and leave the main protagonist with nothing. The story doesn't satisfy the players at all and all it does is leaving us betrayed and disappointed for struggling to rech the end of the tale. For a story driven game it fails in comparison with the first The Last of Us and if the story doesn't clicks, then it's hard to enjoy it especially that the gameplay is outdated. Expand

And the difference between what someone's willing to do till they are satisfied. They way the story is set, I do disagree. I believe if they split up abby's moments before we saw her as Joel's murder, it would have been much better. But that's not the case. But it doesn't change the fact it was a good game from gameplay and effort. And maybe they left the end open for a 3ed. So we'll see what happens, but honestly I'm not disappointed but not impressed Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us gave us an exploration of characters who we came to understand deeply throughout the time that we spent with them. In Part II, we are shown that careful characterization from all sides of conflict. Ellie is no longer the hero, but rather just a lost character desperately trying to do something that would make her life "mean something." The only way she can fathom to do this is to seek revenge for Joel's death by understanding what Joel was, because she was hurt by his actions, rather than what Joel has become after they settled in Jackson.

Contrast this with Abby's character, which mirrors Joel's, we understand the confusion and guilt that can lead to a change of heart and return to humanity for the character. Ellie may be the one with the moth tattoo. But she spends the entire game failing to "follow the light." She fails at every turn and is punished for it as she puts the people around her in danger. Abby on the other hand, grows throughout the game to understand that she doesn't have to lose hope. There is still light for her to follow. The last shot of the game, with the moth on the guitar and Ellie in the background shows that she has finally accepted Joel for what he grew to rather than as a product of his horrific past. She accepts her last memories of Joel and then goes off into the world to follow the light and do right by him. So damn good man.

Game play is actually fun this time around. Previously, combat felt slow and frustrating. Now, you are given freedom to approach encounters with enemies in a variety of ways. When gun fighting really kicks up, things feel frantic and rushed. The improved movement and aiming help to sell this as you can move in and out of hand to hand, to range fighting, to running away seamlessly. All the while the game maintains a brutal realism through the weight behind each action. Killing in hand to hand takes time and is messy while firing at range is high stakes to make each shot count.

10/10. Seeing these two characters grapple with ideas of maturity in a world where childhood was never afforded to them is painful to watch in such a meaningful way. Beyond that game play is enjoyable this time around the length and variety present in the game absolutely makes it worth every penny.

Naughty Dog cut out the crunch time in your games. People deserve better than that.

I enjoyed the game for an hour then boom, best character in the story is gone like a fart in the wind. Basically you set out as Ellie with her gf and a horse on an "epic tale of revenge ". Lies. You play a very linear driven game after the first 2 hours, and the story becomes very predictable. The a.i. in this game is dumb (this includes your partner.) The combat mechanics is the same as the first game. The majority of the action scenes or revenge scenes have you hit square repeatedly. The game wants you to feel for abby as if we don't already love and have a connection with joel and ellie. I get it it, it's a story about revenge and justice ,but it just feels so bland to me. The characters weren't very interesting either. So when I knew one was about to die because the story is so freaking predictable, I just sat there shaking my head. I think the worse thing to me about the game is playing Abby. I hated playing as Joel's killer and going through her perspective. IDC! She is an unlikable buff turd. At this point, I'm merely completing the game to avenge the death of my 60 bucks I sacrificed at gamestop. In the end ellie loses more than ever and abby is still with lev and they live happily every after. My opinion and you will either agree or disagree. A disgracefully misplaced story stacked on top of illogical plot holes and stupidly contradicting character development meant it was one of the most frustrating games I've ever played. If ever there was a desire to completely destroy a fan base for a true masterpiece, then this is the shining example. It can't be denied that the graphics and presentation are stunning - although green and grey does get pretty tiresome after 20 hours no matter how good it looks!

However even then it still has many many faults - the gameplay is far too repetitive and artificially drawn out. The writing is cringe worthy awful with plot holes the size of the grand canyon and I found myself bored and completely disinterested through large parts of the game.

But the main issue here is that players aren't playing the sequel to The Last Of Us for the graphics, heck they aren't even playing it for the gameplay - they are playing it for the story and characters. And this is where it all comes crashing down like a hurricane.

Aside from what actually happens and what the player is forced to do and play as, it cannot be denied by the developer the sheer amount of deception created in the build up to the release.

Players expected a certain experience and through the developer's selfish actions they seemingly set out to ensure the exact opposite of this would happen.

As a stand-alone game titled something like Abby's Tale set in it's own unique game world, this would have been a more than acceptable game. The problem is, it isn't and as a 'The Last Of us' game, that is unforgivable and it fails spectacularly.
