This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is hard to rate this game. The Last of Us is a legend, but this sequel makes you forget about it. When 7 years ago it was announced, we all hoped for something groundbreaking. Unfortunately, cult around Neil Druckmann's writing was wrong (including me). This game is beautiful, not Red Dead Redemption level of graphics, but it's amazing (what's funny, Uncharted 4 looks very similar). Gameplay is the same old game with newer animations, which is good if you love the first one. But the story, oh boy, the story. Killing Joel right on the beginning without any respect was the worst decision of the franchise. Models we're swapped, Joel from trailerS was replaced by Jesse. Joel in some scenes was replaced by young Joel, so he was not part od the story, this was just a flashback scene. And the worst... Game forces you to play as Joel's killer for almost 12 hours. Writing is cheap, full of plotholes. No one had a problem with Ellie being gay. Left Behind has great reviews. But Naughty Dog tries to tell people if they do not like this game, that means they are bigots. They made mistake, an enormous one, but they will not admit it. Franchise ruined. Expand

The story is utter garbage that doesn't add anything meaningful to the first one. Some games aren't meant to have sequels. Some stories stand on their own. Star Wars is an ideal comparison. If you like TLJ you might like this game. It takes the characters you grew attached to and throws them away for cheap twists to tell a story that has been told a hundred times already and replaces meaningful characters with some of the most unlikeable ones I've ever seen in a video game. They aren't bad, they just have nothing about them that makes me invested in who they are, and I couldn't care less to see the rest of their arc.

This was a colossal waste of such a massive opportunity for the story they could have told with this game. I appreciate the effort made by all of the dev team. The design of this game is fantastic. The detail put into the environments, animations, facial expressions, particle effects and so much more is second to none. You will not play another game on PS4 with this level of polish and quality. It's just such a shame that it couldn't have been an excellent story, and have all of the detail the devs worked so hard to build in it as well. I'm just... disappointed.

A great game must be completely ruined by political agendas. I was completely turned off through the entire game by the almost constant portrayal of Ellie as a lesbian with her girlfriend.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Concerning sequels, I find it is difficult to completely weigh them objectively. The game cannot exist unto itself, and because of that, it is already at a disadvantage. There is a lot to love and loathe about The Last of Us Part II.

The graphics of this game have been praised enough, and though they are fantastic, graphics alone will not carry the title. Thankfully, they do not have to. They work in tandem with aspects which I enjoyed from The Last of Us to make a game which is a worthy sequel. The controls and style of it echo that of its predecessor, and it carries on the tradition of attempting to ground the experience in some semblance of reality. The world is harsh and makes no promise of life to anyone. While this effort is appreciated, it can seem jarring at times. In private conversation, I have jested that the game is a "depression simulator," and while the joke may fall flat for some, it is no less poignant of a synopsis in my humble opinion. This is, by no means, a shortcoming. In fact, the most effective of stories, I find, are the ones that force me to deal with a range of emotions, which this game does effectively at times, and ineffectively at others.

Much of the positive emotions I have come to associate with the game, are derived from heartfelt moments between Ellie and Joel, of course. Their interactions are heartwarming, and the emotional beats of their story feel as personal as the two of them. There are elements of environmental storytelling which persist, and the game does not shy away from showing the depravity that takes hold in a post-apocalypse. Though there are moments which pull one away from the despair, they are tucked away behind flashbacks. The knowledge that this comfortable lull is a fleeting moment nags at the back of the player's mind. It will end, forcing them back to the discomfort of the main narrative.

While these flashbacks are some of my favorite moments in the game, I fear they are also misused at times. Some events seem out of place, as though they would have been more beneficial if utilized earlier on. The attempt at getting the player personally invested in the other playable character, Abby, and her compatriots, seems to fall quite short. The player grew to appreciate and empathize with both Joel and Ellie over the course of an entire game. The same cannot be achieved for an entire group, let alone one character, in a far shorter amount of time. In fact, I would argue that Abby should have been the initial playable character following the prologue. Starting with her recurring nightmare and inciting action for her quest for revenge, and subsequently viewing the end of the original game from a new perspective. It would have also allowed for the player to observe the same all-consuming force of vengeance taking its toll upon Abby, much like it would Ellie. The difference being, that Abby's vendetta stops with Joel. It is not allowed to bleed over to those immediately around him. There is the great potential for an incredible story here, but I fear that it may have become too enamored with the idea of saying something profound.

Whatever it attempts to say is irrelevant. At its core, this series has been one focused on its characters. It should not be a fable. It should not attempt to lecture the player about morality. Morality means nothing in this world. You have already been made party to dooming any hope for a cure. No, this game is not about what is right and wrong. It is about human relationships, and the depths to which people will delve to endure and survive.

I had serious reservations going in owing to the massive outrage the spoilers had created, which I myself somehow managed to avoid, and some key moments pissed me off just as much as the rest of them, but it didn’t detract from the experience. If anything, the events in question lent credence to the overarching narrative that would otherwise have been unconvincing and unsustainable in the long run. Characters are well written, extremely well acted, and complex in ways that I’ve personally never experienced before - I spent most of my time not knowing whether I loved them or hated them.. but I was never apathetic towards them - I spent much of the game debating internally as to who’s side I was really on, and I don’t think I ever got a conclusive answer. Bottom line is, I think this one is just as well written and well directed if not more so than the first one.

As for the rest of the stuff that constitutes a video game, everything is top notch here. The visuals, sound design, gameplay, moment to moment stuff is all some of the best I’ve seen to date. What really impressed me were the animations and how everything in the world reacts to your presence. Characters interact with the world and each other in convincing ways, there’s weight and inertia to your every move which adds to the realism and serves to raise the already lofty stakes even higher. The atmosphere is superb.. Post apocalypse Seattle is gorgeous while simultaneously being oppressive and foreboding. There are moments here that had my heart going faster than even the most accomplished horror games have managed to achieve, and yet I couldn’t help reveling in the glory of what Naughty Dog have created here. So often I found myself stopping dead in my tracks and panning around just to take it all in.

The gameplay is also first rate here. I will concede that it may not be for everyone, and if you’re looking to play a traditional third person shooter with over the top action then you’ll likely be disappointed. This game moves slowly, forcing you to absorb all the sensory stimulus it throws your way, then kicks it up out of the blue and sends you scrambling for cover. Everything here is deliberate and requires commitment from the player. In short, it is the most natural feeling evolution of the gameplay from the original - it’s more refined, mature and enjoyable, but if you didn’t like it in the original, you likely won’t enjoy it much here.

All in all, I am so incredibly glad I didn’t buy into the negative hype and avoid this game like I was considering doing at one point shortly after the leaks came out. This is an absolute must for anyone who played and enjoyed the original. At the risk of sounding cheesy (cheeky?), my only real gripe with the game is that it has effectively ruined 98% of all other games for me going forward. I was attempting to play this other game last night shortly after beating the last of us 2, and I couldn’t help but notice the clunkiness of the animations, the texture clipping, the lack of reaction from the environment to my character, and I'm talking about a game that I had played previously and thought was perfectly fine up until I played the last of us. Seriously, just seriously, do NOT listen to the review bombers with political agendas here - you do NOT wanna miss this one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First things first: technically, this is a tour de force for the PS4, even on its last legs. A great send-off for the console and a reminder of what it was able to achieve through its lifecycle. Naughty Dog's technical prowess is (maybe) only rivaled by Rockstar. That alone should warrant a better score, but I'm playing it for its story.

On the story side of things, the game wants to teach you so many moral lessons that by the end of its 25 plus hours (which quite frankly, became a grind), I couldn't care anymore.

I played the first game scared to death that something would happen to either Joel or Ellie because they made us care about them so fondly. That bond ended from the get-go...yes, Joel could die (and die he did), but in a proper fashion/circumstance. They just killed him to show us that any action deserves a reaction (wow, really?) and make sure his previous decision-making (saving his "daughter" who wouldn't?) couldn't go free of its reckoning.

The game's sense of self-righteous is so pretentious – and to an extent, really pathetic – it tries to shove down your throat that it's better than you while forcing you to do things you wouldn't do if you had the chance to decide for yourself.

With so much shady stuff coming from the studio policies and how they treat their people, it bothers me that Naughty Dog dared to think they could get away with trying to preach over ethics in life through this regrettable story.

And no, this has nothing to do with Ellie being lesbian, etc. People bringing that up to save face for Druckman's hypocrisy are the real phobics.

Having said all of that, zero is what this game deserves.

The game was advertised as Ellie and Joel. This is what a lot of people wanted and expected, but it wasn't what we got after 7 years of waiting. It wasn't even really about Ellie when all is said and done.

The story was a "two sides of the same coin" comparison between two people, one of which no one really cares about. It wasn't written intelligently, but in the most "edgy" way a story could go... and there's a reason people don't write stories like this. The amount of plot holes that were embedded in the "redemption" arc for half the game can't be ignored and there were a lot of moments that confused me as to how they thought this writing would work.

There were a lot of great things about the game. The environments looked amazing and carried great atmosphere. The lighting, the greenery and the torn cityscapes were super cool. The core gameplay was very similar to the first with a small handful of new additions. After 7 years I would have expected a little more out of the gameplay, but at least they stayed true to SOMETHING from the game everyone loved while improving it a bit. The music was really amazing and I think the guitar sections were a really enjoyable little distraction. There are segments of the story that featured the Ellie & Joel dynamic, with a focus on playing as Ellie, which were hands down the best part of the game because it was what I expected the whole game to be. They were done excellently and made the ending that much more bitter. The new side characters that interact with Ellie were also pretty cool, but weren't used enough as Ellie's playable game time is too short to draw any connection with them. That being said, this is a story driven game, and they so willfully disgraced the first game and what we wanted that I can't give it anything better than what I rated it. Doing something for the sake of subverting expectations is a horrible idea, especially when the success and hype of something was dedicated to those expectations.

In the end I'm just mostly disappointed I didn't get to play the game I was advertised since Joel & Ellie had such an interesting and developed dynamic. They could have done something so interesting, but went for what they thought wouldn't be obvious. I expected them to do what they did because it was the easiest way to agitate your emotions and I really expected more from their storytelling. You'll really start to catch onto the story beats pretty quickly when you realize how they're telling it.

If this game was made after fans were "pressuring" (the money and demand was there, no pressure needed) ND to make a sequel after they said they wouldn't, I would never expect them to pull what they did. It completely alienates the people who loved the first game by taking the game in such a different direction. TLOU2 was possible because of what the first game did, and they acted like it was an entirely new IP where they just used the characters and story from the last game as cheap emotional tricks. The game didn't leave me satisfied in any way by the end of it and I'm really wishing I didn't play it because it just left a bad taste in my mouth and spat on what I loved about the first game.

If you want something cathartic, don't play this. If you want to be sad, go for it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ellie in TLOU1 was probably the most likeable character I'd ever seen in a game. To say she was charming feels like an understatement. The very next story about her that the devs want to tell me has me being trained and conditioned to dislike her for 15 hours. THEN they make me play as unlikeable Joel-Killer for another 15 hours. And at the end of it all they expect waterworks from me when she can't play the guitar bc of her stupid failed revenge mission. And all that on top of a messy story with a lot of cringey moments and barely any Joel. And every time Joel was there it only served to bum me out. When the first game ended I remember it being a "wow what a cool experience" moment. Didn't get that at all from this one. Expand

Besides the identity politics & woke SJW stuff (there is a lot of this. It even has a pointless and disgusting sex scene), there are many more things wrong with it.

    - the story is swallow, makes no sense and has some plotholes (for example, infected people living in freezing temperature, with no food)
    - the main theme ("cycle of violence") is dumb and poorly written and full of contradictions
    - some characters are very unlikable, others act like idiots
    - the ending is bad and unsatisfying. In fact, it might be the worst ending to a video game I have ever seen
    - some of the dialogue is pure cringe
    - gameplay is repetitive and the game is way too long
    - the jump button is overhyped and plain stupid
    - no multiplayer

The only redeeming part are the good animations and the graphics. However, there seems to be a masive downgrade when you compare some scenes to what was shown in trailers. And I'm not a fan of Ellie's face being redesigned (it's not about her growing up, she looks weird even in the flashbacks). Hell, they made even Marlene uglier. Why?
Also, I guess the music is pretty good but it's imposible to enjoy it when you are annoyed because of the plot.

To sum it up: repetitive gameplay, great graphics, horrible story. And since this is a STORY driven game, I can't give it anything above 3. Sadly, I must say I'm very worried where the gaming industry is heading to.

Don't play this game even if it's free! TLOU2 is a disgrace to Sony and the entire gaming industry! Game journalists should be ashamed for their false advertisment!

Of course, the visuals are stunning, and so intricately filled with detail. The gameplay is very similar to TLOU1, but has some definite improvements and new features.

The entire atmosphere of the game is haunting and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Crawling through tight spaces, you KNOW that you're in for a scare the entire time, and yet, when it happens, it is still startling.

That’s okay, you’re feeling the game as you should be. People say the story is simple, and yeah It is a simple story, but that allows for a lot of character growth and depth. I mean LoU part 1 was a simple story and look at the depth of it. So a few things. People say it pushes an agenda. I didn’t feel that at all. Yes there is a lesbian couple. Yeah there is a trans person. The lesbian couple is focused on as that’s a huge character dynamic but it feels organic and not forced specially if you read the journals. The interaction with the Trans character literally goes like... A: hey I’m ..enemy: “hey ... A turns to MC “do you want to talk about that” ... MC “no I don’t care about it” there is one more 2 sentence explanation on it but that’s akin towards tribal law and tribals duties which has major character spoilers so I’ll leave it out. TLDR: I would give this game an 8.5 out of 10. The story has depth to it and is really good and compelling. Although there are some Hangups on it, that I don’t totally like or agree with. But they’re understandable. This is a game not to miss out on. Expand

It’s a slap to the characters Joel and Ellie and all to us fans for liking the 1st game like seriously... you couldn’t tell a somewhat believable revenge story.... it’s a revenge story without the revenge...imagine if kratos let’s zues go after killing dozens of gods or John wick lets go the dog killer after killing all his henchmen due to having a flashback lol... if that the case that flashback should have made Ellie more violent and help her finish the job...and then after realise it was for nothing and revenge was a total waste of time because now she has lost everything pursuing it... letting Abby live doesn’t end the cycle... what about tons of random people Ellie hunted and killed... wouldn’t their family members go after Ellie now so why letting Abby live ends the cycle?... Joel went from being a complete hardass and not trusting anyone in the first game to giving personal name and hideout locations to random strangers while being outnumbered lol... it’s a complete mess... the gameplay is linear apart from one section... no new interested infected... sometimes you even forget that it’s a zombie game,,,. It tries too hard to be the walking dead but fails miserably... sorry for the rant because I am personally hurt by this... it’s just a torture porn with lgbtq stuff mixed in it with a horrible story and bland gameplay...the environments in this game are fantastic that’s why it’s getting a 4 from me and the flashback scenes with Joel.. they are the best moments of the game.. This game is a total masterpiece in every sense of the word. The story is absolutely fantastic, despite all the negative out there. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I typically don't write reviews for anything but this game compelled me to do so. Let me preface this by saying I love Naughty Dog games. I loved the Uncharted series and the first Last of Us. Upon completion of this game, I was left with a very stale taste of my mouth. Major spoilers going forward.

First, the good. Graphics, gameplay, voice acting, landscapes, and designs. I enjoyed the combat and the game never felt too hard at all (I died in a couple of spots but nothing too bad). However, most people are playing this game because of the story and, let me tell you, that is where the whole thing falls off a cliff.

In the first two hours of the game, you are introduced to a character named Abby. You even play as her a little bit in the beginning. From the get-go you can tell something is off with her. Throughout the beginning, you come to realize that Abby and her friends are there to kill Joel. Joel and Tommy find Abby in trouble during a blizzard/zombie hoard and rescue her. When they get back to the house her friends are at, that's when things take a turn.

Ellie finds Joel and Tommy but then watches as Abby puts the finishing touches on Joel's face with a golf club. Now we have the building blocks of a revenge story (since Abby and her friends conveniently let Ellie and Tommy live). The first half of the game, I was super on board. Yeah let's go **** up Abby and her friends. Nobody ****s with my boy Joel and gets away with it. The first day in Seattle was great. You are traveling around with Dina (your girlfriend) in an almost open-world type feel where you are finding points of interest and finding extra loot.

You proceed to play three full days in Seattle with lots of drama and good mixtures of action between zombies and humans. Dina is pregnant (from her ex who you actually meet up with at one point) and you are trying to find Tommy who set out before you to get revenge for Joel. Eventually, you get to a point where Ellie kills two of Abby's friends (the only two people on that side worth giving a damn about) and leaves her map with their marked location next to their bodies.

Alright, first off... come on. This is Ellie we are talking about. Also Tommy and Jesse were there so none of them picked up the map? Fine, whatever. Abby finds you, kills Jesse (the ex) and is holding Ellie at gunpoint. Then the game completely changes for me and this is where I began to hate it.

The game then proceeds to take you all the way back to Seattle Day 1... but as Abby. You then get to play ALL THREE days in Seattle as Abby. So you spend half the game making me hate this person and then try and spend the other half of the game trying to get me to feel bad for them? **** that. The whole time I was playing as Abby I was telling myself "they can't seriously be making me play all three days as her, right?". They did. Abby even gets to face off against a giant infected that would have been way cooler to fight as Ellie. Honestly, I got Abby killed a lot on purpose just to make me feel better. She is scared of heights? I should throw her off this building just because. Should I watch her get her neck broken? Sure.

The worst though was after you get through all three days with Abby, you are now back at the theater holding Ellie at gunpoint and you literally have a boss fight AGAINST ELLIE. I let Ellie kill me at least 20 times hoping that the game would just say "The End" but no, they make you beat Ellie before you can proceed. I thought what game turns you into the villain and asks you to fight the main protagonist? Are you serious? Imagine you're playing a Zelda game and halfway through Nintendo decides to have you play as Ganondorf for the other half of the game.

Needless to say there is lots of death but every mainish character gets to somehow live. Look at it this way, when Abby is done with Ellie (I mean she really lays into her) we have a ridiculous situation. Ellie is weak and beaten up, Jesse is dead, Dina is knocked out, pregnant and shot through the shoulder with an arrow, and Tommy is shot in the head and leg bleeding out in the lobby but the game shoots forward at least a year or so to Ellie and Dina living in a farmhouse. How the hell did Ellie get back to town with Tommy near death and Dina injured while also being injured herself?

Eventually, you get to the end and you don't even kill Abby. You see Joel in a flashback as you're about to kill her and let Abby live. You go through the entire game wanting to kill Abby and you don't even get to complete the revenge. In fact, you actually free her from her death and give her a new lease on life. Then Ellie goes back to the farmhouse, fingerless and unable to play the guitar and everyone she ever loved is either dead or left (Dina and the baby).

I get that the world is **** and not everything is flowers and rainbows but holy **** Ellie deserved so much better. **** Abby.

Unnecessarily dark and heavy. Rational thinking is a characteristic not present in this game. Abby is NOT an interesting character nor could I sympathise with her. Sadly I do not feel writing, pacing and the way story was told was very well done and simply turned game unlikable fot me, For a story heavy game like this with some heavy subjects I also found this something that made it impossible for me to rate game all that highly. That said this game is by no means awful, I can easily see people finding a lot of value here, it is just that for many it is also simply disappointment, 0 scores for me seem straight dishonest though but that's how it usually goes when people are disappointed getting something totally different than what they wanted even if that is just unfair, just how it goes. Cons:
-Second half is a snooze fest
    -Only one stealth kill animation
    -Story is lackluster
-No upgradeable storage for ammo and most supplies

I really enjoyed the first 7 or 8 hours, I loved exploring Seattle when first arriving and checking things off the map. Unfortunately that is short lived and there are no more open map sections of the game. The stealth system in the game is ok, but the stealth takedown is SO repetitive, how in the hell did they only give each character 1 stealth takedown animation? Not being able to do a stealth takedown with your melee weapon is a total bummer as well.

The whole Abby play through was such a drag and I felt most of it was a pointless time filler and would of been better off as a dlc. Overall pretty bummed but it definitely has a couple great moments. Wait for it to go on sale.

Personally I didn’t hate the story, it is not as impressive as the first one tho, I think the way to play as two characters that fight against each other in the end is innovative, by so I can see both sides and all the consequences. The theme of the sequel is obviously “vengeance is useless” to my understanding and what the two characters did in the ending just serves the theme properly, so there’s actually not too much to complain. The only thing I can’t take and not happy with is Joel’s death, not that Joel can’t die, just in the situation where Joel saved Abby, but what Abby gave him is torturing, humiliation and death, that’s just too brutal for everyone even those first timer, not to mention those fans of the first game like me. We started TLOU2 with hopes that after everything those characters would live happily ever after, but the world of TLOU is dark and rarely ends happily. Without spoilers, TLOU2 faces the uphill battle of making you care about a character that starts off almost irredeemable. In my time with the story, I felt a wide range of emotions for this character and others. When I finally finished the last scene of the game, I was left with the satisfied feeling of a story that felt total, complete, and moving. The game deals with, represents, and successfully addresses topics like sexuality, ideology, and morals that are hard or tense to discuss with ease. It does so in a way that provides a bridge to relate to characters in a way that allows you to overcome their differences and appreciate the ways that they emotionally connect with you as the player.

Gameplay wise, TLOU2 plays a lot like TLOU. The melee combat is more refined and satisfying, and the fighting scenes are most intense and sometimes more chaotic. A few added parts to the gameplay include the ability to manipulate infected interacting or attacking your enemies in an organic way. Exploring the world and it’s secret corners often goes rewarded with lore and loot. There are plenty of fights that are available but not essential to the story as you go.

Graphic and sound quality is outstanding. Naughty Dog pushed the PS4 to its absolutely limit, and it’s an outstanding comparison to games at the beginning of the PS4’s lifecycle until now when we’re approaching its end.

First of all, there is a difference between a bad game and a game that you don't like.

I finished the game couple of days ago so, I took a day or two to process my feelings about the whole storyline of this game I feel miserable, sad and depressed, I feel like I have a hole in my chest after finishing the game. No wonder it is facing huge criticism from the fans. I don't think this is a bad game but a game that I didn't like. It is a miserable game and that's how it was meant to be. It was meant to be divisive, it was meant to make you feel the roller coaster of emotions that you were going through throughout the game. I don't think any game has made me this miserable before and that's what this game does well.

This game isn't perfect but just look at the Metacritic scores: 100/100. I don't get it, how?

Also, I understand that there will always be trolls who haven't even played the game yet commenting stupid stuff calling people out in the company for pushing agendas but it is just outrageous calling your ultimate consumers incels, transphobic, homophobic, sexist bots for not liking the game.

Now the ending it leads me in complete despair. I completely understand people who are saying it was a thrash ending. There is a loop of getting revenge, losing things, murder, getting revenge, losing more. Ellie broke the circle finally but it felt like it was too late for that and weird time to break the circle. I wanna be happy that she grew as a person but again I am miserable because she had lost everything to get that.
Now on Abby's side of things. She was a decent character but I never ended up liking her.

The first of half of the game when we were playing as Ellie I thought this was a 10/10 game but when we swapped to Abby I kinda lost interest I am not gonna lie ( the only time I somewhat enjoyed playing as her was when we had to defeat the rat king and WLF vs Scars battle)

I just didn't like Abby although I understood where she was coming from.

Like the surgeon who you mindlessly killed in the last game had a huge impact on the story, I like that tie-up. They introduced Abby at the very beginning of the game and then she kills our beloved character from the last game. The thing I don't understand is why did they think that we will ever like her?

I felt like I couldn't sympathise with her, I understood her but I couldn't connect to her which Naughty dog desperately wanted you to.

You built up this crazy story with Joel and Ellie and then you move into the first game and then move into the second game where you kill Joel right at the start and then you only get to play with Ellie for the first half the game and then right at the end. I didn't like that.

I think Abby could have been a good offshoot game. A totally separate story in the same universe but don't throw her into this. Not with Ellie and Joel.
And what is up with killing all the wonderful side characters? Now, Joel's death is particulars tough to swallow because the way he died was just not acceptable.
The story didn't let him and Ellie explore their relationship. They just cut it off with his sudden death. Now about Joel, he is a hard & tough survivor, always on his game and not trusting people. But all of a sudden he starts acting willy nilly running to an unknown base.
It was forced and little hard to make logic of.
it was a tough scenario I understand like they were getting ambushed they really didn't have a choice. But still, at the same time, I wish his death meant more to Naughty dog.
I wished there were some more things that had taken place before his death
He was the hero of the first game and we lost him immediately.
I appreciate the flashbacks but that does not rationalize anything.
This is a gloomy sad miserable game that scared me and depressed me, to be honest, It was hard to play this game for an extended period because it was so dismal.

As per the gameplay, TLOU 2 is a great survivor horror-based game. The openness, graphic, animations, cinematography, verticality and mechanics.
What else can we expect from a 2020 game?

Verdict: After 7 years of wait, I was not expecting this cruelty. I don't know why Naughty dog couldn't give us what we wanted after waiting for this long.
Imagine how bad the Naughty dog team must be feeling who have worked hard for 7 years and facing such backlash just because of a dimwit named Neil Druckman.

Misleading trailers, editing stills, desperate attempts to lure people in. Very petty and shallow marketing tactics I would say. You already have a massive fan base why would you do that?
Injustice was done to Joel, Ellie and the fans.
The rage is rage and criticism is justified according to me.
Abby geta a clean slate whereas Ellie lost everything including her 2 fingers. Farewell to her guitar skills.

My Rating 5/10 (for the hardworking people behind it)

Now on my 2nd go and i love it, people seemed to forget people die in games and i like how this game shows us that no one is the good guy and that the past can catch up to them. also the ending shows Ellie showing her mercy over her wrath and hatred not letting it consume her. One of the best games of ps4 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. With an impeccable graphic presentation, pushing the Ps4 to the limit, TLOU 2 brings a mixed feeling.
The gameplay, almost identical to the original game, remains current and fluid. Exploration gained greater prominence, bringing more open areas providing a broader perspective of the reality of the universe in which the story takes place.
The plot is not well tied. Forgetting everything that was built in the first episode, especially the characteristics and the relationship of the people.
I understand the idea of using revenge as the driving force of history, but not even his initial tip-foot is sustained. The intelligence of the players is almost a debauchery. The characters who join this sequel really seem to pertrade the reality of the game.
The idea of bringing the villain's perspective is **** Using this artifice, we are stuck in this narrative wearing the fluidity from the story, making it tiring.
I believe that the biggest problem of the game is its outcome.
After everything the player goes through,
after all the challenges and losses Ellie has to deal with, failure to take revenge makes the journey seem empty and in vain.
Sad that a franchise that would not need a sequence has won one that deconstructs everything that was appreciated by its audience

Wow. Just wow. I completed it today, I had not seen any reviews or any leaks. Not viewed one spoiler or a single gameplay segment from Sony. This is the single most seminal exclusive of the generation. A layered and nuanced story from people who know how to communicate with true heart. This is the Next generation of gaming.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us is one of my absolute favourite games of all time. What made it such an enjoyable game was not only the graphics and immersive gameplay, but the evolving relationship between Joel and Ellie. They are the heart and soul of the first game and what I expected of part II was to keep that heart beating, not rip it out with such barbarity as they did. The problem here is not Joel dying. It's how he died and why. You're forced to play a big portion of the game as Abby (Joel's killer) and it is as if Naughty Dog kicked you in the gut and laughed. The storytelling is shamefully weak and backwards, like next level character assassination which is apparent to anyone who played the first game. I don't care for any of these new characters and no matter how amazing the gameplay itself is I will not be able to enjoy it because its justtoo aggravating! 2 points for how stunning the game looks (which was to be expected anyway) and 0 points for the butchering of beloved characters. Had to write my first review on metacritic just for this one because there seems to be a war on truth these days. Having just beaten it, 30-40 hours later, exhausted and extremely pensive, one of my biggest takeaways was that this has to be one of the most ambitious video games ever made. Having just beaten it, 30-40 hours later, exhausted and extremely pensive, one of my biggest takeaways was that this has to be one of the most ambitious video games ever made. Even if you dont like the story, the graphics are stellar, so are the animations, voice-work, sound design, production design, cinematography, level design, set pieces and especially the moment to moment gameplay. The story wont gel with everyone on the other hand. Its well written but not as tightly scripted as the first game. Its told through different characters and the narrative sometimes jumps back and forth in time to set up said characters. As a fan however you should always strive to give the thing your supposed to love, the benefit of the doubt. Some people, and so called «fans», havent even played it, they are just reacting to rumors, or worse yet reacting to the reactions someone else had when playing this game. Its a storybased single player game, immersion, agency and player input have always been paramount. And if you want to stand at a distanse and poke holes at it you may do so. But you do so in a very disingenious manner. Just like a Nolan movie, if you "go with it" and allow yourself to be immersed you will find the end result to be extremely emotionally rewarding, in spite of the odd cringy line or the rare logical lapse. As a fan I gave it the benefit of the doubt because its the sequel to one of my favourite games of all time And when the story went somewhere unexpected i thought to myself, "this must be for a reason." Turns out its true. And at the end i was exhausted, contemplative and full of emotions. Kind of the hallmark of good storytelling. Kind of what the first game did.

To those who are on the fence, give it the benefit of the doubt. I think you will come away impressed by its sheer scope, its gameplay and its extreme ambition. I for one cant believe what they have achieved here and im so happy that i got to experience it. And for those out there making spam accounts (i see you there reddit), not having played it, not giving it a chance, doing it out of some spiteful, capriceous or political motivation - you will most likely never make something this good. Food for thought.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
