    Cons: Story is crummy and feels out of place in the world of the game. Very much feels like a poor sequel after the intensity of the first game. So much so that it ruins the game somewhat. Engaging the enemies feels repetitve toward the later sections of the game.    … Expand

    I am a very big fan of The Last of Us and I waited seven years for the sequel. Today was supposed to be a celebration day, the launch of the sequel to one of my favorite games of all time.

    Unfortunately, it's far from being a celebration day. It's basically a funeral. I enjoyed the gameplay of the first game a lot and Part 2 has pretty much the same gameplay which is a big plus -    I am a very big fan of The Last of Us and I waited seven years for the sequel.     I enjoyed the gameplay of the first game a lot and Part 2 has pretty much the same gameplay which is a big plus - it's still good. The graphics are gorgeous and the music is excellent.
    However...
    Just like in the first game, The Last of Us Part 2's main drawing force should be the story. I regret to inform that the story in this game is absolutely terrible. There is a lack of respect for the characters from the first game, the ones that I loved very much, like Joel and Ellie. The story is a basic revenge plot with a modern "subversion of expectations" at the end which I didn't enjoy at all.

    I am mourning the franchise, because this game really sank the ship. It really really did.    … Expand

По эмоциям до 1 части не дотягивает, но по факту игра очень хорошо сделана. Красивая, умная, в меру сложная.. очень крутой проект. Крайне рекомендую. Она может не понравиться, это нормально.     With the new movement and actions, a new way of moving through the scenarios was created, although little used the way of throwing cables could have generated very interesting puzzles.

    As for the story, I understand the motivation of the characters and how each one arrived in this emotional state, however the best story was on account of the secondary Lev and his sister.

    So I finally finished this game and I gotta say, this is one of the most beautiful stories in a game that I have played. Now I accept, that everyone will have a differing opinion on the games story but personally I loved it. There some really strong messages about people, revenge, love and forgiveness. It's essentially a character study.     Graphically, the game is one of the best things i've ever seen. Sound design is top notch. The voice acting and animation, top notch.

    Gameplay wise it was a vast improvement over the first one. movement was smoother, combat was visceral. It was fun to sneak around, or just start tossing everything when things got crazy. I loved finding the notes and listening to your companions which fleshed out the story and characters even more.

    I did have issues with the pacing at times but overall it kept me wanting to keep playing, just to see what happens next.

    I will say this, while I did play the Last of Us 1, i don't have the same attachment to the characters that i know some people, including my friends had. I had no "headcanon" of what I wanted out of the story for part 2 and was just excited to experience the story that the developers wanted to tell. I understand that this story, is not going to be popular with everyone, Some may even hate it, and that is fine. Everything I wrote is my personal opinion.    … Expand

    This is a hard game to review. The first half is an absolute masterpiece. It takes the storytelling, performances, presentation and gameplay to a new level. Then they made a decision which squanders the emotional connection they worked so hard to build. They game is still incredibly well-made and enjoyable.     I've heard some complaints that the game tries to be too "woke". They do shove some of their ideology in there unnecessarily, but it doesn't ruin the game for me. It is forced and doesn't make sense in the world of the game, but it's mostly just an annoyance.
    I just hope if they decide to make a third, they scrap all the nonsense and learn from their mistakes.    … Expand

AGAIN it's not the "warm fuzzy" story I wanted to give me those feels... but good, I'm glad naughty dog too another risk and gave me a story and experience I'll never forget. I feel bad so many people put this game on too high of a pedestal. this game is a flawedI get it... it's not the story you wanted. But isn't good storytelling something you didn't expect.     The animations and the graphics are top notch. The gameplay is mediocre at best. But the story is far worse than I even imagined after the leaks. And the SJW propaganda (which is super brutal, btw) is not even the bad part. The writing is so trash it's not even funny... What a disappointment!

Тут даже и обсуждать нечего, графика, механика, геймплей, атмосфера, все на высшем уровне, тю, ну это же НД и Нил Дракман, сама подача истории, 2 совершенно разные сюжетные линии, которые с одной стороны было очень рисковый ход, а сдругой, очень необычно и качествено, показывают и раскрывают полностью персонажей с разных сторон, да, за время игры будут вопросы, почему, за чем, за что, но проходя дальше и дальше, вы поймёте весь посыл, который нам хотели передать создатели данного шедевра, если вы хотите ощутить на себе сильные эмоции, то ТЛОУ2 для вас.

    Yes, the story is awful. They layer tropes within tropes, with my favorite example being the child who runs away from the cult because they are being forced into a marriage with an older man... but don't want to because they are... transgendered? I am all for equality and consider myself somewhat of a social justice warrior IRL, but this just feels like they had a story put together and then decided to inject hot-button social issues into every plot point where they could fit them. The problem though is that even if the story didn't include the SJW overload, it would still be a mediocre story with an unsatisfying ending.

    At the end of the day though, the fact is that this game is a masterpiece in level design, gameplay and graphics. If you could skip all cut-scenes and just have an adventure in post-apocalyptic Seattle hunting down bad guys and zombies while scrambling for scant supplies, the game would stand among one of the best games of the year.    … Expand

I really feel like this universe is built in a more adult way. Even in certain issues like the characters looking away when we try to get close to them with the camera is a sign that their lives belong to them, like for example in Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, where we are one of the voices handling Senua and he looks away from our excessive control. Their lives are theirs. And that's why at certain times the decisions are feared by them and not by us. The Last of Us 2 is probably the best video game I've ever played.… Expand

    The original had a bland/repetitive game-play, sure, but the story compensated it with its incredible world and characters but the part II turned this into the bland game-play of the original game... the best part of the game. i.e. everything is in the negative but the game-play.

    There needs to be an good editor in these things to kick those kinds of stories to the curve. Otherwise, this studio is done for.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A lot has been said about this game. The only thing I can do after beating it is agreeing with the fact that it’s bad. Gameplay is fine but identical to the first one. The feeling is that the game drags itself so much over its welcome, due to decent but highly repetitive mechanics and level design. The first one had on its side a shorter length, and a much, much better storyline and characters. This part 2 goes in every single wrong direction it could, when it comes to these two aspects. It starts flushing away the most fundamental thing that EVERYONE wanted to see: the relationship between Joel and Ellie, killing off the first, and transforming the second into an unlikable sociopathic dumbass. All the other characters are either destroyed and marginalized (Tommy) or just forgettable in the best case, including Abby. I’ve seen many hating her so much. I couldn’t do even that. She just doesn’t make me feel anything. She’s so bi-dimensional that DoomGuy expresses infinite more personality with a couple of grunts. What made me feel extremely annoyed though is the way the writers try to trick the player in liking her with any sort of subterfuge, because oooh she plays with doggos, oooh look how she saves zebras, oooh look how she saves kids, oooh look how many friends she has, she must be the best person in the world. Well no, she is not. She is just a terribly written character (together with all her besties), with 0 character development and an atrociously boring and stupid storyline that goes nowhere and simply wastes your time. Even the LGBT representation is done much better in the first game (Bill and his side story are so well written, so sweet and at the same time so bitter. Definitely one of the best parts of the first game). Here things are just thrown in just for sake of politics, decontextualized, stereotyped and simply uninteresting. What I wanted to see in the game are Ellie and Joel, how they’re coping with the end of civilization (the best part of this whole thing is the flashback in the museum), I wanted to see developments with the infection, I wanted to see how humanity is surviving. I wanted lore, emotions, world building, character development. What I’ve got instead is Abby literally taking it in the ass in one of the worse sex scenes I’ve ever watched.

    Giving it a 5 because of the graphics. Seriously, I can’t understand how were they able to achieve this on an obsolete hardware such as PS4. This is going to be the benchmark for the new console generation, together with RDR2 and Death Stranding. And, hopefully, Cyberpunk 2077.

Ellie and Joel are not your creations. You may have been happier to have had another cross country trail with the two of them however instead you were provided with a truly unique experience. You were forced to realise that everyone has their own story and why they act the way they do instead of the usual dumbed down good and evil dynamic. This game was lost on you and to be honest a lot of life will be also. It was a devastating ending which was heartbreaking. It wasn’t happy however there remains hope that both characters can find happiness in a world which has really gone to **** Revenge is poisonous and cost both these characters a heavy price. I’m thankful for the experience. Naughty Dog own these characters and created them and I trust them with the narrative. Not some whiney clowns who want to be spoon fed artificial grief but always with a happy ending in conclusion. Grow up.… Expand

    Masterpiece ! It’s a good story with well-written characters.Graphics are sumptuous, there is detail and work everywhere even in adjoining places.

    This game is great, full of generosity, full of beautiful landscapes.Everything is seamless in the gamepplay. For me it’s the game of the ps4 in the same way as God of War and Bloodborne

    Wow, what can I say about this steaming pile of garbage? First of all, it made me sick to my stomach to see them waste the only like able character. But the ending is worst. AND the whole game feels like it has some political agenda. I give it 1 since the graphics is too notch. I’d actually recommend waiting for a used copy in a couple of years - don’t support this nonsense.

    Was very disappointed with the story and lack of replay value (even with a new game +), but the gameplay is pretty fun in parts, certain scenes are cinematically dramatic to great effect (even in the latter half), and the graphics throughout are comparable to RDR2. Lots of work went into this, but it feels much to waste, unfortunately.

    It wasn't the worst game i have ever played but it was far from the best. The graphics were definitely top notch but where the game fell short was the game play, which was pretty much identical to the first, and the story that left much to be desired. Parts felt rushed, other parts were too slow and there were way too many flashbacks. But the ending they've gone for is Ellie roaming the wilderness alone and we have absolutely no idea what's happened to Abby and lev. Awful ending it's a 10/10 game but the ending knocks two points off for sure. One of the best of the current generation. Unfortunately the game is narrative driven and the writing is shoddy at best. The story is structured poorly, the characters are shallow and act in incomprehensible fashion. My idea of a great game is to be put the player in a world to make decisions and see how they play out. In this game I’m put into the world to do what the writers want, without real agency. For a big portion of the game I’m forced to act in a way I don’t want to, and even worse, play a character I don’t want to play with.

    The gameplay itself is very similar to the original, almost no innovation, and it feels both unfair and illogical at times. It is not fair that I’m against a dozen NPC:s with a gun, but each time I can get only 1-2 billets from them. The scarcity is artificial and does not make sense. Playing with the Abby character, a solider for several years, is too similar to playing with Ellie. For some reason she learns about crafting, gun improvements and close combat skills only on the days I’m playing the character, the exact days when Ellie is in town. Unrelated to my rating, I find Sony/Naughty Dog PR and marketing decisions suspicious. Not allowing the reviewers to talk about the whole game and misleading gamers on the content of the game was not cool, almost like a bait-and-switch.     The gameplay is old and stale, the story telling is all over the place. This is what happens when you have writers based on color and pink hair instead of talent.

    Neil Druckman hates the female figure but loves butch men pretending to be female, it also appears he likes making and seeing stories on young teenage lesbians.

    to a degree that is way beyond you find in any game these days.
    Combat is hard and that's the way it should be. You're not happy ? Go play Ghosts Of Tsushima which has the dumbest AI you can find.
    The atmosphere and immersion are also top notch.
    There is no filler stuff here, if you want that, again, go play Ghosts Of Tsushima.
    Graphics and visuals are up there with the best. Even better than Days Gone.
    It's hard to believe this is possible with just an APU.

    tl:dr - story needed to be executed better, ending sucked. gameplay is great.

    hope naughty dog makes a new IP after this game. i think we have exhausted the world of last of us at this point. i know they wanted to get real dark with this game but i eventually got akame ga kill vibes from the story when it comes to characters deaths.

    Exhausting game play loop - imagine part 1 just the same encounter much more repetitive without a cut scene or shared moment. The story is also so torn apart that it prevents any meaningful emotional engagement - imagine a soccer match where you switch side every 15min. Part I is my second favorite game of all time so this is a shame...

    The Last Of Us Part II is one of the best followups to a critically acclaimed title I have every played in my life. Story wise the game is consistently captivating from beginning to end. The mechanics of the game have improved a ton also while staying true to the original flawlessly. Naughty Dog has truly outdone themselves with this fantastic title.

    Finished it. It's a game unlike any that I've played, and that's not always a good thing, though here, I believe it is. It makes you feel things rarely what game has the courage to even mention. I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, but I genuinely liked it.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
