TLOU2 is bold in its narrative decisions and I can see why it's caused such a huge divide between critics and players.

I will say, though, that this game excels visually and design-wise, so much so that Jacksonville and the rotten heart of Seattle both look unbelievably gorgeous. The game is a dream to play when you're looting, running around, or taking in the scenery. Naughty Dog

Naughty Dog does stumble in places, however. The combat and stealth feel dated and rusty compared to the polished finesse in other departments, and the narrative suffers from inconsistent pacing. A few character decisions are out of place and there are more than several moments that are eye-rollingly heavy handed.

Overall, TLOU2 isn't the masterpiece that I think many critics have portrayed it as. It's an ambitious title that pushes the capabilities of the medium, but as an experience it's overly long, self-important, and doesn't say as much as it thinks it does. It is still a great time, and if you were a fan of the shoot-em and loot-em mechanics from the first game you'll feel at home here. By no means groundbreaking, but still absolutely worth trying - regardless of what angry fanboys said at release.

Horror games are not my genre, but like with the first game, I powered through the zombie parts for the story, which was worth it. The whole zombie premise, too, is fascinating enough to take in small doses.

Great game, if you like linear, cinematic games like this, and can handle some spooky stuff. Don't let the review bombers tell you otherwise.

Joel shouldn’t be tortured and killed that way. And we shouldn’t have to play with the person who did it. ( I don’t really care about the collateral damage he did - just felt like watching Austin Powers when they turned to show the friends and family of the bad guy who was killed by Austin. The point is, who cares about the bad guys? **** them. Same to Abby and her dad. And I had to play half the game with that **** only to see she going away alive in the end. **** it. Someone was even sadistic to make Ellie lose fingers and made you try to play the guitar at the end. Seriously. Bad story. Totally disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

The story is based only on a revenge. There is no character development, no emotional connection. Remember how long it took Ellie to build a relationship with Joel in first game? How long it took Joel to overcome the loss of his daughter, and to adopt Ellie? Well screw you! Now there is girl, you kissed the day before the game starts, the next day you’re making out and all in love. Also, authors use this logic for the whole game - here we take something away from, and you should be angry. This is a stupid 80s action movie, but not fun at all.

Gameplay is literally the same as original Last of Us. No new mechanics, no unique encounters, you either slowly walk and loot, or run and shoot. Looting is boring - you can only interact with 1 or 2 objects on scene. Shooting has no feedback at all. You don’t feel satisfied after you’ve managed to make a good shot. And don’t even mention stealth - I thought in 2020 players deserve something more interesting than basic arenas with covers and objects throwing.

What about famous animations? Have anyone seen any? Choppy, sluggish and absolutely unimpressive. RDR 2 feels more alive than these puppets.

Visuals are impressive. Impressive how bad they look. RDR2 looked MUCH better than this blurred mess. The very first scene of the game shows you a town, where dozens of people with only 4 different faces and clothes! And it is not action based scene like in a first game, where you don’t have time to notice this - no, you walk slowly and notice everything.

This garbage deserves nothing but a zero, and I really want writers of this game, those who actually made decision, to understand what an abomination they’ve created, and never do this crap again.

What made the first game special for me, they showed how a deep connection could come from two complete strangers and it felt real.
In this game they throw in so much into the pot it creates a lot of weird plot holes and even after 30 hours I don't have a single character I really like.

This game turned into kinda... The Walking Dead: The Game. Regardless of what history tells us about how people in war act usually kind and help each other, all main characters in this game are straight up ****

But who knows, maybe you'll surprise me with Part 3 and...subvert my expectations, ba dum tss.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I understand why people are angry with this game, but none of these 0-7 reviews are warranted. Giving this game anything below a 7 is silly. Giving this game anything below a 5 is objectively wrong.

This game is lovingly crafted and polished down to the last pixel. The animations, graphics, environments, art direction, gameplay, music, sound design, acting, and storytelling are all lovingly crafted by people who clearly cared about making the best product they could.

The story, particularly in relation to the original game, is the sole source of all the ire directed toward this game. I must stress that the story telling is top notch, it's just that the story Mr. Druckmann chose to tell is the problem.

The game starts out promising enough, where you play as Joel riding on horseback toward a breathtakingly gorgeous view of Jackson in the distance. You and Tommy are out on the plains of Wyoming under a sunset while a sombre guitar rift gently yet strikingly plays. It's all incredibly perfect and really makes you feel that you're walking into something great. And it is great.

Until Joel gets brutally murdered by a woman with the most freakishly bizarre character physique I've ever seen on a video game character.

Everything regarding the narrative is kind of downhill from here. Ellie turns into a merciless killer on a quest for revenge, and the moment you are about to get it, you're suddenly FORCED TO PLAY AS THE BIZARRELY DESIGNED TESTOSTERONE-LADEN WOMAN WHO MURDERED JOEL, and you're forced to play as her for nearly half the game! I can only guess the reason they did this is to humanize her and make you feel some sort of compassion and understanding for her actions, but that's pretty hard to do considering that you didn't do this until AFTER she murdered the character we already spent an entire game playing as, learning to love him despite his objective faults. He was one of the most well developed, most human characters I've ever seen in fiction, and killing him off the way they did felt like a huge middle finger to everyone who loved the first game. And after all this, this lengthy revenge quest, you never actually get it, and are just left with a sad, unsatisfying ending where Ellie essentially loses everything. The most frustrating part of all of this is that the game is incredibly well made, so I cannot really hate it. I just kind of wish I'd never played it.

It's all very sad and unrewarding and makes you wish they'd never made a sequel, because they shouldn't have. The absolute hands down highlights of this game are, ironically, the series of flashbacks you go through with Ellie and Joel from years past. There's one in particular where it's Ellie's Birthday and Joel takes her to an abandoned museum and well...it's heartwarming and just so damn perfect and great in every way, so much so that it pretty much made the game worth playing despite how much I loathed the ending.

All I can say is this: if you liked the original game's story and cared about its characters, there's a very high likelihood you will not like this game, and I would recommend you steer clear of it, I know I wish I had. But it's nothing resembling a bad game, and it doesn't even come close to deserving all the negative user reviews here. I just wish they'd have taken the story in a different direction and handled Ellie and Joel's stories differently, and that's why I completely understand where all the negative reviews are coming from. But when you look at it for what it is, a video game, and how it plays, and how well it's made, there's really no justification for low scores.

I won't go into any major spoilers but I will reflect on the plot a bit as it is the most important aspect of the game and what separates it from the first one. When it comes to game play it's pretty much the same which is a good thing. Combat is fun, violent and heavy. All of it amplified by the downright beautiful visuals and sometimes realistic animations. What's changed technically is that the crafting is a bit easier and now that Ellie can climb just about anything you have a bit more verticality in ways of dispatching your enemies. I like how the enemy AI are bit smarter now as they try to flank you and rush you more often. When they are under cover they will duck as soon as they see you point your sights at them. A nice touch is how they react to any given situation. If they see a downed partner they will react in anger or sadness by calling out their name or warning others. They will clue themselves in on your position and if your gun goes click click they will let one another know "she's out get her". Things like that and the atmosphere is dreary but very immersive. New enemy types include dogs and 2 new zombie variants one of witch is great and the other a bit too similar to another. They do add some cool boss battles and set pieces that were much needed and I won't spoil. Dogs, in my opinion, were more of an annoyance then anything else it could have been left out. What I don't like is that the game was said to have several semi open world sections where there was only one. It's not that I cared for it to have them but to give you only one section of the game like that seemed a bit odd to me. Also, as with many E3 demos, the gameplay did not look near as fluid as it did in it's demo. I thought that demo looked overly scripted and it was. Now for the story. Poorly directed, poorly written and tonally everywhere. The highly controversial plot is actually a good one that makes sense but it is told in such a messy way that it constantly took me out of it. Story progression is interrupted with flashbacks in such odd places where the tone goes from 100 to 0 in a second. Characters act in ways that don't make sense and by the end you will not care about a single one of them. The main theme is thrown out the window by the finish line. I couldn't help but think to myself how much better the story would be if it went a different way and how the directors/writers didn't see it that way. Movies are not shot in order. They shoot parts of the end, beginning and middle and then edit them to be in order. This game feels like it was shot that way but someone forgot to put them in order. It even feels like 2 games in one. I give the gameplay, visuals and sound a 5 and the story a 0. It is a game that I would only revisit for the gameplay sections and skip the cut scenes. Expand

You can upgrade your character and your weapons, (as you can on the previous game).
The graphics are very good and the animations are gorgeous.
¿Why i'm giving it a 2 then?... Because of the story... That fk piece of s*** caused me to hate this game and it took away all my craving for replaying it.

The ending is just a part of the problem, and not the problem itself. The game tries to represent that "vengance is bad"... But let me be clear. It tries to do that by not taking revenge against someone that already took revenge... With Joel, killing him at the start of the game.

Don't take me wrong, Joel had it coming from what he did on the previous game, but doing the people wait YEARS to kill the protagonist of the previous game at the start of this game... It's just a nonsense.

I'm gonna talk about how this game tries to convince you of not taking revenge because vengance is bad and nothing good comes from it.
Ellie does not kill the assassin of Joel, (which was Abby). But does not matter if she does or doesn't kill Abby, the plot hole is still there.
How so?... Well Abby took revenge of Joel, and Ellie didn't with Abby... That means that nothing bad came from Abby's vengance, woohoo -> Plothole (since nothing bad came from vengance).

Now lets think on the hypothetical situation of Ellie taking revenge on Abby and killing her... Now Abby's dead, woohoo -> Plot hole, since nothing bad came from vengance.
Now lets think on the other hypothetical situation... Abby takes revenge on Joel and Ellie takes revenge on Abby... BUT, then the partner of Abby wakes up from the boat and kills Ellie, and nothing bad happens to him, woohoo -> Plot hole again, since nothing bad came from vengance.

It doesn't really matter what you do, vengance it's still there and the plot hole too. What the **** they are actually trying to represent with "vengeance being bad".
(Also, Ellie didn't took revenge on Abby and still lost her girlfriend by trying to do it... Oh, and two of her fingers too, preventing her from playing the guitar song that Joel teached her).

Now im going to actually enumerate which contributions this game does to the "The last of Us" Universe. Ready?
    - Joel dies.
    - Tommy (Joel's brother) gets blind from an eye.
    - Ellie's friend Jesse dies.
    - Ellie's girlfriend Dina almost dies, and breaks with Ellie leaving her.
    - Ellie loses 2 fingers.
    * (An everything it's caused by Abby, the one that Ellie let go unpunished).
Wow, awesome!, I can't wait to play this game again and revive all this beatiful moments!.

    ###########################################
    - This is the case in wich doesn't matter AT ALL if the game it's a 10 on gameplay, mechanics, animations, and soo... Because the story it's SO SO SO Fu***ng bad!, that now i'm completely disgusted with it and I prefer to thinkg that it got cancelled and never came out.

¿Superior a Bloodborne? ¿Uncharted 4? ¿The Witcher 3?

I will not write more about the plot, as everything about it was already written. Let's say (just to be polite) that the the writing is a huge disappointment to the fans.

So what do we get when we strip a heavily story based game out of it's story? Another mediocre zombie survival game with good visuals and gameplay from 2013. And quite frankly good visuals from Naughty Dog is not an acheivement anymore. They have the know how, they did it before with previous generations of PS, so it's not a big deal for them to use every genertion of playstation to it's limits. Quite frankly it's not a big deal for any AAA studio anymore.

In my opinion this game is a 5/10 at best. I can understand all those 0/10, as the fanbase is furious and wants to make a statement with those bomb reviews. But all those 10/10 critics scores are a joke and show in what state the gaming journalism really is.
If a linear stroy driven game with really weak story, good visuals, mediocre gameplay, combat that lacks variety get's a 10/10, then what score should RDR2, The Witcher 3, or Final Fantasy XIV get? I guess a 20/10.

10/10 should be acheived by groundbreaking titles only. That score is for games that have great graphics, amazing story, memorable characters, fun an challenging gameplay, spot on sound and deliver innovative features/concepts that nobody tried before. And sadly TLOU2 gives us only great graphics. Everything else is just mediocre at best.

-Characters 2/10: The Characters are developed decently, they have natural conversations
(sometimes to much imo) during the Gameplay and their emotions get conveyed
really well. Sadly its a shame how the Devs treat their old established Characters, it
feels like a kick in the balls to the fans and a cheap way to set up the weak plot
(Disney Luke Skywalker is an easily drawn comparison) and all new Characters are
    very unlikable.

-Gameplay 5/10: The weakest point in The Last Of Us was always the Gameplay. Sure some ppl like
it, but its avarage at best and pretty boring. TLOU2 doesnt innovate here, but
improves the established System a little bit, with some decent quality of life
    changes.

-Graphics 9/10: Not much to say here, the Game looks insanly good. Only negative is the frame-rate.
Ppl should wait till the PS5 release to get the optimal experience out of it.

-Level design 2/10: Holy **** are these Levels "just there". They look beautiful and all, but are so empty
they are very linear with almost no 2nd path or something to explore. Even some
Call of Duty Levels are more interesting.
-AI 4/10: Improved but very dated, feels like Im playing a stealth game from 2014.

Fazit: I would give the Game a 4/10, from a technical point the Game is solid, but the Gameplay and Levels leave much to be desired and are never the selling point of the Game. What remains is the story which can in some way be interpreted as an attack to the fanbase (yes its that bad and the leaks were 100% accurate). So I would only suggest this Game to the few people who liked the 1st Game not for the story, but for the Gameplay.

edit: I'm shocked and disgusted that Naughty Dog and Sony managed to pay this Game up to the rating of a Zelda Breath of the Wild. Shame on you, shame on the industry and corrupt press, Im actually speechless and disappointed.

If you think of it from the story, and the building of the depth and a whole new character to find depth an feel something for, I loved this game, and was sad to see it end.

It was brutal, the start was by far the darkest in a game i've played, and that was refreshing. You are all haters if you hated this game, get over your egotistical misogynistic attitudes. This game delivered.

I will never believe in reviews of the gaming community! I don't mean their reviews are false or irrelevant, of course their are, but... Games are art pieces in the same way as movies, books, music, painting... They are meant to cause emotions, not necessarily good emotions.

I was hesitating to play this game, because of comments about "stupid plot", which in most reviews, after further read, you can recognise an emotional opinion, which doesn't consider a "stupidity" of the plot, but rather a negative emotional impact of it. IT WAS MEANT TO BE THIS WAY. It was specifically wrote to make you feel this way. I completely understand that this game isn't for everybody, people often look for relaxing and positive experience, especially in video games. If you are one of this people, even if you'd loved the first game, by all means IT ISN'T A GAME FOR YOU. Still, considering this plot stupid, because it made you feel bad, is like criticising "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" to be "stupid", because its a sad movie.

Besides "stupid plot", there are opinions about "leftist propaganda"... So what if Ellie isn't heterosexual? Not everyone is! And it was hinted in the first game, so don't act surprised! So what if Abby isn't the most feminine character in the history of pop culture? She is a damn soldier! Consider this character to be male. Do you expect, that 50 kg man to be a Rambo in a post-apocalyptic, zombie infested world? Of course she have to be buffed. You may aks "So why she isn't a man in the first place?". It's a valid question! In my opinion, Abby was created as female to be much more close to Ellie, as a character.

To end my rant and start an actual review (spoilers ahead).

I won't comment the actual game play, because as I see, the general consensus is that it's overall very good. I think the same and the main point of this game is its plot. For a long time I thought that game have to try to be "cinematic" and to be "just like movies". This game, and the first one actually, changed my mind. Now MOVIES have to try to be like video games. First game was about searching for humanity in god-forsaken world, this one is about losing it and considering "who is actually human?". At this point everything may be considered a SPOILER!!!

    *YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED*

I have read some reviews, that criticise changing the narration from point of Elly to Abby. I think its main quality of this game! Abby perspective shows, that nobody is sinless, everybody deserves a punishment. Abby and Elly both lost father, even if he isn't a biological one in Elly's case. Both had lost friends, both can't live being aware that the second one is still breathing, and its a main point of this game. Where is this thin line which separates humans from monsters? When can we consider the other side to be hurt enough? Should we even consider it in the first place?

Don't understand me wrong, after Joel's death I wanted to see Abby's guts on the screen, I could not consider this game to be good without having seeing her die in most gruesome way possible. I often consider the "revenge stories" to be crap if protagonist doesn't kill the antagonist, and just letting him/her live. This story is different and that why it had moved my! Showing Abby's perspective made me hesitant. Is Elly a good guy in this story? Joel clearly deserved what he got, at least from Abby's point of view. Maybe Elly was a monster not Abby? That's thing that everyone should consider separately, because this question does not have a good answer.

    *FINAL NOTE (without spoilers)*

Just give this game a chance, buy it used/discounted, let it move you. Games shouldn't make the same mistake as many movies, have a good guy be good, and a bad guy be bad. Games should be risky and show as something new from time to time. If you don't like it... ITS FINE, write your opinion, just I've did! It wasn't my intention to criticise ones that didn't like this game. I just want game designers to experiment with their creations. Please don't bash them for this! You may don't like the effect of their work, but at least, as a community, we have to praise them for showing something different, something new, something new...

Some are mad that they killed Joel. Let me ask you, what did you expect? He had enemies and if you ask me, he deserved to die. What he did in the end of TLOU 1 was selfish. I understand why he did it, killed all the medics and saved Ellies life, but for what cost? Save one life, because you cannot handle your emotions and let millions to suffer. That is a scumbag move. This game has great combat and crafting mechanics, graphics is amazing, well polished environment and level design. Gameplay is very close to the first game but with slight improvements in some aspects. Most of the improvements can be felt when you play as Abby. She is like Joel but on steroid. Shooting, dodging, mele, she is like an unstoppable tank in this game. And I think I know why she plays very well, because Naughty Dog wants you to love this character. Why else would she be so powerful and with all the plot points to try to convince you to relate and feel empathy for her? But you see, this is exactly what's wrong with this game. Empathy for a character cannot be forced upon the players. It must be EARNED! Characters development need to feel natural. Plot points need to be logical. Choices should be given to the players to decide on what the outcome of the story. One word: Flashbacks? seriously Naught Dog? Master of story telling in Uncharted 4 and TLOU, decided to use a flashback to justify an important character action in this game. This is lazy story writing and simply cant be justifiable by just blaming all players homophobic. Now we all know fractions will be its standalone but nonetheless it is cut from the main game. So the $60 you pay for this game is gonna be less of a game compare to the first one. With the heavy weight on its shoulder, I am sorry TLOU2 simply isn't good enough. Also, it is just wrong to blame the players. Maybe you should try listening to their feedback instead of justifying for your own bad story writing. Please stop pushing agendas which is clouding your judgement and making good quality games. Be the naughty dog that everyone loves, instead of this emo, hate provoking teenager like Ellie in this game. You used to make master piece, Uncharted 4 remember? If you want the praise from everyone, you need to earn their trust again. There are some scenes which imo very unnecessary to be included such as the sex scenes and the execution scenes. They felt offensive and disrespectful to both the characters and the players. Take note on Ghost of Tsushima, they just announced a free multiplayer to their game... Expand

Narrative has a myriad of issues, Pacing predominantly, Character's contrary motivations, bad dialogue at times (cringe), Unlikable boring propagandist and all characters in general are bland.
Best parts of the game are with Joel (Flashbacks) mostly prior to the bipolar retardation.
Abby was ok but Ellie was the worst character in the entire game. i had to force myself to finish the last 3-4 hours because the story is so unintelligent and unaware while attempting to be self aware to justify abysmal plot devices, convenience and contrived scenes leave the player wtaf is this.

The graphics are the best in the console, and it’s a technical masterpiece that perfects everything the first game got right. The atmosphere, animations and the details are masterful, and by seeing this I am unable to understand the people that claim the devs don’t care about this franchise. Because of these aspects, the game is nowhere between a 0 or a 3, as I keep seeing in reviews. But let’s talk about the story. I do think it’s a bit weaker than its predecessor (which I consider unfair to judge now, given that Part I has become a legendary game in the PS community), but it’s still more engaging that 90% of the games out there. Very few games have made me feel such strong emotions as Part II has. It’s been a week since the credits rolled, and I still can’t get the game out of my mind. And yes, Part I is a very important game to me. I’ve beaten it many times and it’s definitely on my top 3. There was no point in this game where I felt like the original game and its characters were disrespected in any way, and even if I had I would not have any right to demand how this game should have been, as many are. These are Naughty Dog’s characters, not ours.
But the game takes risks, and I completely understand that the way the story went is not what some were expecting. But for many others this has been a wonderful and emotional ride, and sadly our voice is not as heard.
Anyway, although not being perfect (a bit too long I’d say), not many games have been as special as this one for me, and that adds a lot of value, so there goes my 10. The Last of Us Part II is not the game we expected, but I really think it’s the masterpiece that was needed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first thing you need to understand is that I only just played through both the first game (Remastered) and the 2nd game for the first time back to back this month with the launch of the PS5 (Yes, I was able to preorder one when they went live in September and I got the digital edition console on November 12th). I Played through Part I through the PS+ collection and I bought Part II for half price during the Black Friday sales on the PlayStation store.

Unlike the vast majority of the people who posted their 1/10 reviews 2 hours after the game came out because they (SPOILER ALERT!) killed off Joel very early on and couldn't be bothered to play the rest to actually find out why she killed him. I actually just finished playing through Part II from beginning to end. I went into both games completely blind apart from a few key details I already knew due to how much of a phenomenon they became. For example, I already knew that Ellie was immune going into the 1st game and I already knew that Joel dies in the Part II due to the leaks earlier in the year before the game released.

First, my brief thoughts on the 1st game... absolutely loved it overall. I loved the dynamic between Joel and Ellie, the story was fantastic and the gameplay was solid. I would give it a solid 8/10.

Now for Part II. First, I would like to tell you what I loved about the game. The music was incredible. The graphics were some of the best I have ever seen, the voice acting and the mo-cap was award worthy, which is great because both Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey were both nominated for The Game Awards and they are both totally deserving. The flashback with Joel and Ellie in the dinosaur/space museum was my favourite part of the game. I know some people hated her, but I loved the character of Abby. Her killing Joel because he was the one who killed her father, the man... the Dr. that was going to do the surgery on Ellie to create a vaccine for the virus was absolutely genius in my opinion. The gameplay was better and more refined than the 1st game. I also do not have a problem with how Abby killed Joel considering what Joel did to her family, that being her dad and the rest of the Fireflies. Honestly, what she did to Joel reminded me of What Negan did to Glenn and Abraham on the Walking Dead. He killed two beloved characters on that show, but prior to that, Rick and his group sneaked into one of Negan's bases in the middle of the night and murdered everyone in there IN THEIR SLEEP! If I was Negan or Abby in their situation, I probably would have done the same thing. I think the only reason that people had a problem with it is because of her gender and how she looked. She did not look like a typical female because she was ripped. What the **** is wrong with that? If you were living in a post-apocalyptic world with barely any food and constantly walking around, travelling and killing infected, I bet you would get a little jacked over time too.

The game itself, because of the story and how it is played out is very depressing and difficult to play at times (especially having to kill dogs, that was not pleasant). This certainly was not a fun family game to play like Mario or even the Uncharted series, also from Naughty Dog, but because of how good the story, characters and gameplay were, it kept me invested and motivated to finish it.

The only thing I would say I didn't like about the game was the ending. Firstly, it dragged on for way too long (bit like the 3rd Lord of the Rings movie) and also, Ellie left her wife (I assume Dina was her wife by that point) and child (technically not her biological child but whatever) behind to pursue and end things with Abby, and she ultimately just lets her go. That made no sense to me, but hey, maybe that was a setup for Part III, who knows.

I also, unlike many other people who played this game, am not so insecure in my own self, in that I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with Ellie's romantic relationship with Dina. I think it was very well written and acted, especially the joke where Dina tells Ellie she is pregnant and says "Don't worry, it;s not yours". I know plenty of people in my own personal life who are gay or lesbian and it does not bother me in the slightest. Anybody who says that Naughty Dog or other companies like Lucasfilm for example have no interest in making good content and only care about pushing and SJW narrative should rally be left to turn into infected.

In conclusion, I actually liked this game a tad more than the 1st one. If it wasn't for the ending, I would give it a perfect 10, but my rating is a 9/10. Absolutely phenomenal game. Naughty Dog truly are one of the best in the business and I cannot wait to see what they can do with the hardware of the PS5. Playing through both games back to back within a week was a surreal experience, but I am so glad that I finally did it. I will be absolutely shocked if this game does not win Game of the Year.

The Last Of Us ended perfectly and that's the way it should stay and be remembered. This piece of utter garbage won't ruin The Last of Us for me and it shouldn't ruin the experience for anyone else either. It simply does not exist. It's bad writing, just a bad fanfiction. The advice I'm trying to give here is: don't feel bad if you're feeling like a bad fan for not liking it. Ellie and Joel won't have this kind of conclusion to their story, not after everything they've been through. I just know Joel and Ellie are somewhere at Jackson right now, being happy and playing guitar with not a care in the world, not worrying about the past, because they've got nothing to regret after all. As someone who enjoyed the first Last Of Us game I was really looking to playing this sequel and even went out of my way to avoid all the spoilers for it and after playing the game all the way through I can say that in terms of the graphics and the gameplay this game does well at that but the story of this is nowhere near as good as the first game. The moment Joel gets killed off by Abby that right there was enough for me to hate this character and nothing they could do was ever going to change my mind on her and playing as the character for 10 hours after that happened in a desperate bid to make people care for this character did not work on me at all there was nothing redeemable about this character or her friends that all ended getting killed which they deserved because of what they did in the first place and the ending left a sour taste in my mouth, they could have at least given the players the choice to decide if they should let Abby live or die but we never got that which in the end left Ellie with nothing at the end of it all.

So this is by no means a 10 out of 10 game the gameplay and graphics was the only good things about this sequel but the story to me was a huge letdown.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 is an ok game, which comes to be a disappointment given the expectations around it after the masterpiece the first game of the series was. The gameplay has hardly anything new compared to the first game and is stale, hardly rewarding and loaded with tension. The technical side is what shines, with fantastic graphics and music. The story is what disappoints the most. Unlike a lot of people, I actually liked Abby’s story plot (and levels, as they were gorgeous and interesting) but left disappointed as the game fails to properly explore the lore, specially of the scars, and drops a new faction towards the end without any introduction. At last, the gamer can see the ending coming miles away and it’s not satisfactory, and pretty much what one would expect. It gives the game no closure. If there is a Part 3, I do hope Naughty Dog moves from Ellie, Joel, and Abby to properly explore this world, while creating a story that people can connect to, like it was the first game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. to be honest when it comes to this game my feelings about it are all over the place, i both love and diss like the game in its entirety. i am a huge fan of naughty dog as a game studio and i loved both the last of us part 1 and the entire uncharted series.
I loved almost every aspect of the first half of the game, with my only criticism being that in my opinion they killed Joel a little to early. killing him as early as they did made the impact of his death not nearly as impactful as it could have been had they given us a few more hours with him. it was sad seeing a character that i loved so much die in the way he did. I don't have that much of a problem when it comes to the fact that it happened or how i happened, again it's more about when it happened. i wish i could have seen more of the relationship between Joel and Ellie in this game, so that Joel's death would have had a bigger impact and the reasoning/motivation for Ellie's journey through the game wold be greater.

other than what i just mentioned, i feel like the first half of the game was pretty great. it might be a little slow in the beginning, but i didn't really mind. even though Ellie isn't the same as we remembered her from the first game, i do fell like her transformation isn't too far fetched, and feels quite natural, considering what she's done and have been through. it was nice to see joel, even though it wasn't for long, it was nice to se him having changed for the better, having become a sweeter and more friendly/dad type of person.

when it comes to the story aspect of the game i think it is pretty great...in theory or as a concept. I see what naughty dog tried to do, when they made us play ass abby for the other half of the game. in concept i would say that it does sound interesting to play as "the villain" of the game to show the world your playing in, from other perspectives, also pushing the narrative of revenge (why Ellie/Abby seek revenge and what happens as a result of chasing it). to me it does sound compelling, its a good thought that potentially could work, but didn't really in this context. i found the theme of revenge in this game cool, but in the end it felt a little messy, considering the abby part of the game.

the abby part of the game completely derails from what we have been playing for the last 12 hours. we play as Ellie going on a quest for revenge, a quest that turns out to be very brutal, bloody and mentally tolling for ellie. when the the story reaches the big climax, abby shows up to face Ellie once and for all, the game decides to beat you down by taking you back to the beginning only now its from the perspective of abby. this really didn't feel good is also part of the reasons the abby part didn't really hit it home for me.

the abby part of the game had a lot of awesome gameplay and a lot of cool guns, something i do think was intentional, to try and make you like abby more without thinking. but ultimately it doesn't feel good to play as abby, it doesn't matter how much they tried to make me like her or how much they tried to explain her actions. to me she was always the person that killed Joel, something i couldn't jus shove under the rug and accept. for something like that to work she would have needed a lot more time to be established and developed as a character. i feel like that potion portion of the game lasted to long and wasn't really all that necessary, with a few changes to the story you could have shortend the game and thrown out the entire abby part, making room for a more impactful ending of the game. i feel that there are many ways to carry the same message, and show the same perspectives without having to play as abby. to me if you hadn't played as abby as much as you did, especially after she killed joel, the game would have been a lot better in my opinion.

i see what naughty dog was trying to do, and i respect the for trying something new even though it didn't really work this time. the games biggest upsides/strengths are its attention to detail, graphics and gameplay. it was a joy to play this game..for the most part, even though the story and ending did disappoint me quite a bit. i love naughty dog and still do, even though i am very saddened about the outcome of the game, its not a horrible game but it disappoints in one of the most important parts of the game, something that truly breaks mye heart.

i do feel that there is way to many people hating and focusing on the wrong aspects of the game, there is a lot i haven't mentioned and i didn't really go to much in depth.i feel like its important to be critical of a game, but don't be a di@k an review bomb the game, just because there were elements of it being disappointing/bad. the game doesn't deserve a one or a two, it deserves better than that its not a bad game, it just fails to fully do the first game justice as a sequel.

Just finshed The Last Of Us Part II and it is one of the best games I have ever played, one of my top 5 favorite games of all time, but still not better then the first. The visuals are astounding, the best I have ever seen in a video game and they are the most realistic video game visuals I have ever seen they look like they are real. The performances from Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey were exceptional, they gave such emotionally powerful performances, also Troy Baker's performance was great he gave some well need peace to a pretty chaotic and crazy game. Ian Alexander, Shannon Woodward, Patrick Fugit, Stephen Chang, Alejandro Edda, and Ashly Burch gave terrific supporting performances. The writing was very well done and made me feel so many emotions like a good movie or TV show but I felt it was a little overly tragic. The character development was remarkable especially with Ellie and Abby. The LGBTQ+ representation with Ellie and Dina's relationship and the transgender character Lev who was also played by a transgender actor was amazing but some of the writing of Lev's story was questionable like how almost all of his suffering and tragedy in his life was because of his gender identity and the villains using his dead name. The gameplay was phenomenal especially the new weapons like the crossbow, the silencer, quiet and silenced weapons, and the prone position crawling. The music is outstanding and so beautifully done I especially loved the song sang by Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, the end credits, and Ashley Johnson singing Take On Me. This was definitely and A+ video game. Expand

It's a wonderful, very dark and horrific game.

After 7 years of waiting totally disappointed, it isn't the game I dreamed about, the story feels unfinished feels like a teenager TV drama (like riverdale or something like that), worthless it had a Lot of plot holes. the gameplay is ok until you play with Abby then is messy and broken, Graphs are awesome.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
