While I can see why some smooth-brained people don't understand the story this game is trying to convey, I personally love the game. The gameplay is excellent, the upgrade mechanics for the guns and the characters are top-notch, and the story is a tragic tale told in a tragic world, just because Joel didn't go out in heroic glory for "saving" Ellie, everyone is review-bombing the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Never been more disappointed with a game in my life. Terrible story, boring repetitive gameplay throughout the whole game, terribly written script, terribly awkward sex scene/confusing love interests, horrendous character progression (the game actually makes you dislike your once favourite character, Ellie), one of, if not the WORST ways to kill off Joel, showed zero respect to the fans and the character, one of the worst and most disappointing endings, lack of gun and melee choices, absurd violence and an unnecessary amount of killing dogs, a weird and very draining attempt to make the player feel guilty when playing as Abby, also an idiotic event where you tell Tommy you won’t help him find Abby (seemingly ruining their relationship) just to eventually go looking for her and then finally returning home to see Dina and the kid gone with Ellie left absolutely all alone.

Gameplay is fantastic but the main part is the story and the story is bad as hell. Boring new characters, old characters acting stupid and the ending is not f* satisfying when you are going on a revenge trip. I hope Ellie died at the End of this Game. Thank you Neil Druckman and Hailey Gross for destroying a game this was once good... In Germany we would say:

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a masterpiece. if you liked Part I you MUST play Part II. Although, the story isn't obviously as amazing as the first, it is waaaaay darker and scary. What set me off was the character change halfway through. What I thought was just going to be me controlling Abby as a filler for the story (like in the beginning) turned out to be half of the game. I really hated it at first because I hate this character, but it actually ended up being very enjoyable.

I understand what people are saying that it sucks that Joel was killed off in the starting hour of the game. But, if that's the only reason you chose this game to be a 0 (which in most cases seems to be it) that's your loss.

Don't listen to these negative reviews telling you not to play the game, don't even listen to mine telling you TO play it. If you want to play it, play it.

It is a 10/10 for me. What excites me more is if they do it right, this story will be AWESOME in the HBO series.

It couldn't even be compared to the story of the first game, also Joel's relationship with Ellie is much better in the first game, more developed and deeper, but it's still a very good game, and the game's combat system is great. It's technically gorgeous but I think the original benefited with Naughty Dog working as a team. In this game it just feels like Neil's pompous ego driving the game making decisions. I regret my $180 collector's edition purchase. But the game itself is worth playing as long as you're not bothered that it makes the original masterpiece a little less special. So I was pretty hyped for this until the bomb dropped... Then I was worried and almost didn't buy it but on launch day I woke up and 20 min later I had bought it and started playing.

The thing about this series is everything that makes it good is story based. The gameplay is very basic and easy stealth. I can literally play on hard and get through every section using stealth kills and that includes the ones where they basically try to force gun fights. So it's not the greatest as far as gameplay goes. I'd give gameplay a 5/10 which means average on my scale.

Now the story..the potential saving grace of destroyer of scores. It's both bad and good but unfortunately mostly bad. Don't get me wrong, there are still moments that feel genuine and some dialog that is good. The problem is it's far outweighed by genuinely bad writing.

I don't care about genders or someone's preference in partner. So that's not the issue so please don't even go there. No...my problem with the story is it's just bad. It's badly written, it's poorly paced and the important moments feel forced. Basically things happen more for shock value than they do for the benefit of the story.

In the original it was the story that pushed me to beat it. I HAD to beat it as quickly as I could because the story had me hooked. Without that being the case in this one I had to force myself to play which is why it took me till 3 days ago to beat it and then collect my thoughts on the whole thing.

    I hate it...I wish I didn't, I really do. It's unfortunate really.

    (hint: it's the characters).

    TLDR:
It's a story about revenge. The circle of hatred.
The circle is only broken because the story-writer throws in a "twist" at the end. (i shall not spoil it)
It sucked and certain parts of it requires willing suspension of disbelief.

It feels like an open world, so sometimes, especially in the beginning it feels a bit overwhelming but soon you’ll get the hang of it and it’s really nice. The game menu has an accessibility feature and it has a lot of great things for people who are not that good at the game, it helps. What ruins the game is that Ellie almost looks like a man, yes she is lesbian, fine we get that, but why make her LOOK like a man? I don’t get that, even her voice, it’s like this rough sounding lesbian woman and okay that maybe fits a lesbian woman but it’s too much and it’s simply not the Ellie I remember.... And then Joel suddenly dies by the hand of this woman?... man... woman who looks like a man? Yes, a woman who looks EXACTLY like a man! And then you HAVE to play as HER HIM! For almost the rest of the game, and I would get that if she/he was a lovable character but she/he isn’t, I hated her/him for the entire game, so that was absolutely awful, playing like that. The story ruined the whole game. The music wasn’t good either. The first game left me with this deep feeling inside when that last music started at the credits but this... there was NOTHING... music was bad, ending was meh...

The game is amazing in every aspect, the graphics, the design of the environment and the characters, it really feels like a natural evolution from the first part.
The story goes deeper into the moral dilemma of the value of a life and the consequences of our actions. Although the main story revolves again around ellie, the game now gives us the opportunity to know the other side of the story. How Joel's decision had repercussions far beyond from just "saving" Ellie. The game even gives us the opportunity to play as the "enemy", which it definitely adds perspective and complexity to the world built around the original characters.
Usually games give us faceless very bad guys to justify the actions of the epic hero, which makes it easier to kill every one that stand on his way without asking if the guy that we just killed had his own motivations. For me, the bad reviews are from people that got very attached to the original characters, and watching them as the "enemy" is not something that you usually find on games. I also have seen criticism about some changes in the characters' personality, and I admit that some changes seem to be there just for the sake of the game's argument. But if you think about it, the context on which we met Joel for the first time, is very different to where he stands on the second part, he doesn't have the same objectives or even the same perspective about his life. While the story seemed to me to be a very good one, I must admit that the last quest is kind of non sense, but I guess that at the end is just Ellie's brutal revenge story and human nature.

I personally didnt like the gameplay from the first game thinking it was too simple, and this game does nothing to change my mind about that. Secondly, while the story isnt as bad as other people have said on here, its not that great either. Without spoilers its hard to say why but certain characters motivations dont strike me as believable at points, with the most obvious wrinkle happening mid game that almost lost me completely. It feels like the game goes out of its way to bash you over the head with its themes of how "an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" over and over again that it losses all meaning in the end. And it certainly cant make up for the most obvious dumb decision that happens in the middle of the game. However, the story still holds up ok at the end of the game. The performances of each individual character is wonderfully done, even if the writing cant equal up to the same calibur. And the graphics here are probably tied in my opinion with Ghosts of Tsushima as being the best on the console, and of this generation in general. However the story needed to be alot less heavy handed and include a lot less bad WTF moments throughout the story. I'd still recommend it but dont expect the same gaming world changing impact that the first game had. Expand

Listing few of the sins in the game:

-They have succesfully butchered every single
beloved character from the first game.
-Inserted disgusting anal sex scene between two men to the game
-Forcing you to play as abby and forced to experience his story. He is a terrible character
and the game tries to justify his actions
-Gameplay is the same boring stuff from the first game with no improvements
-They twisted the chemistry between the characters Ellie now hates Joel, wtf?
-Jewish propaganda and reminding the player about HOLOCAUST in the middle of post apocalyptic setting. WTF

Truly a masterpiece among bad games. Jesus christ. DO NOT BUY THIS.

While the presentation is at a high bar, as it is expected from Naughty Dog, all the essential parts are so awful that it irreparably ruins the entire experience. The story is a complete mess, the old characters are heavily butchered, the new cast is forced, uninteresting and downright annoying, and even the gameplay feels like it made one step forward and two steps back. The Last of Us Part II replaces all of the nuance the original game had with cliches, immersion-breaking pandering and desperate heavy-handed attempts at making the player feel emotions at the cost of the integrity of the experience.

This product is a massive disappointment, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone other than the die-hard fans of the original game who want to see for themselves how bad it has really gotten.

Last of us 2 is a perfect example of a product when the main and only goal is to make a point rather than a product. This wouldn't be a bad thing if the writing could make a point in a way that has weight or makes sense.

Last of us was always about characters and story and so I will score this one based off of those criteria, which is why it gets a hard 0

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A beautiful and tragic tale of what revenge and grieve does to people, I guess that would be the best way to describe it.

On the technical side, is god damn masterpiece. Animation, environment art, character art, design and more. TLOU2 is the result of the most amazing artists, designers and programmers working in the industry right now, the best way to the end the PS4 era.

On the story. *sigh* Here we go: I loved it. It made me angry, made me feel lust for revenge, made me happy, sad and much more. It was an emotional rollercoaster that made me stay on the edge of my seat the entire time.
It is by no means a "happy ending" game which it what is making people angry! You love Joel and Ellie, you want them to succeed, to survive, to win, they are the protagonist after all. But ND showed us that this world is NOT like Uncharted. At the end of the day is a sad story and that is why is so beautiful, is not about "who wins", is about the characters and they nailed that. My appreciation for Joel and Ellie just wen through the roof and the way they handled the relationship between those two was really good. Also: TOMMY IS A BADASS

Not all is gold of course. My biggest issues are pacing in gameplay and in the storytelling:
In gameplay:n it feels anything when you have played and upgraded Ellie for so much, to suddenly change to Abby and start all over again, no upgrades whatsoever. It feels a big stop to momentum.

In storytelling: Abby's relationship with her father is not explored AT ALL which makes no sense to me since that would have been a better way for us as players to connect with her and feel MORE her obsession with revenge as well. All we got was a cliche flashback where the guy saves a zebra, kinda lie the game telling you "look, he is a very good guy, feel bad for him and Abby!", is not enough ND, it just isn't.

Last but not least: the game is very long, like almost 30 hours or so, and the gameplay stops evolving at some point which makes the last part of the game feel repetitive, but not boring thou thanks to some great level design that does make every encounter feel almost unique.

Final words: don't give in to the hate. Buy it, is an amazing experience that and an awesome game. Also: probably a great game is you need to relieve stress!

I rarely if ever watch any news prior to the build up of a famous game that I want to play like last of us part two. I was excited to play the game once it was announced and gave naughty dog all of my support because of how great the first game was. The first half of the game was amazing graphics gameplay story Joel, tommy the new characters were decent. But once Joel was killed off by this new character Abby I was shocked. But it gave me incentive to play is Ellie and track them down and kill them all. A revenge game! But once the theater scene happened or Abby attack Ellie and Dinaand then I took over as Abby I have never been so pissed off in my entire gaming career. I did not want to play the game. The first scene when she was in the car driving I just sat there and let her be killed 100 times. Every time we got to the point where she was attacked by other people and I let Abby die. It was no fun to play as the antagonist that was going to kill the protagonist the one I came to love after the first game. Naughty dog Neil Druckmann the writers Sony I have never been so angry at what you created here - you forced me to play as the antagonist to try to kill the protagonist. The story is provocative, challenges you to try and handle difficult emotions, takes you to very dark, uninviting places, both literally and metaphorically, and invites you to try challenge your previous assumptions.

Yes,things happen that are just plain sad and hard to accept, and having to play abby is emotionally hard at first, but if you do so open minded, it could surprise you.

Gameplay was improved, graphics are top notch for consoles, the exploration feels rewarding, stealth is pretty cool, AI is a bit better, accessibility options are the best ever and enemy variety is pretty nice now.

Honestly, haven't been able to play anything else after finishing this game, still digesting it.

And please, don't buy into that crap people have been saying. There are legitimate concerns and criticisms, but overall, people are just crying the story is not what they wanted. It had no obligation to be so.

The plot is a total joke. Had I wanted to purposely ruin a franchise I wouldn't have done it any better. In the first game we had powerful development of dynamics between Joel and Ellie, development that led to choices and decisions Joel had to make in the finale of the first game, the second part is basically a tactical survival shooter without any likeable characters, without inter-characters dynamics etc.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. OMG. When I firsly looked at this game, I couldn't believe, that it could be so dull. But here it is. What's worse - it gets worse, when you spend more time with it.
I get it - post apo USA (because USA, Russia and Ukraine long time ago are only countries that exists in the world), destroyed cities, lack of supplies, lack of healthy population etc.
But God damn it. Story is really dumb - people just fight with each other and kill, not only infected, but healthy and normal people as well. For no real reason. As a main character you are FORCED to kill in most cases - seriously, what the hell? Even in games, where you were a soldier (like Crysis) or gangsta (like gta series) there were at least options to NOT KILL EVERYTHING IN SIGHT? 19 yo girl has more bloodlust and hunger for killing, than some psycho freak like Trevor from GTA5.

World itself is so unlogical - cities are being vanished from healthy people for around 20 years. Yet there are still fuel in tanks of the cars, power generators still runs after 2-3 pushes of starter (despite being in one place for so many years). Not to even mention closed and linear sections, made there because...I don't really know why. Only the first part with horsing around in Seattle looks and feels good - just like games in 2020 should look like. Don't tell me that You cannot put open world into 2020 game, when you can do that to improve gameplay.

Characters? Very shallow and just boring. They propose next to ANYTHING, that they could do to memorise them. Ok, maybe 2 scenes might stay in your mind, but both of them are hard connected with sex, so I'm not sure, if this is the way to do so. Besides that - npcs and playable characters doesn't offer anything, even above average (not to mention good level or top-tier lvl). They are expressionless, they are boring, they cannot even say something, that could be remembered later, than 20 minutes from now on.

Story itself just sucks. Ok, I get it, after 5 virtual years many things could have changed, got it. But there are so many different (and better) ways to tell this, than stuff that we have in this game. I got lost before half of the game, where we do have to redo past, and when we have to focus on current time and current set of events. It's is poorly mixed, if you want to have good retrospection, look into Max Payne 3 for example - non forced, swift and quick transition between current timeline and the past, short explanation and back to (hi)story we go. Here? Some weird and unnecessary pauses, some minigames in qte style (why?), longer pauses and then some magic timewrap.

Next issue - motivation of the characters. It is stupid, nothing to say more would make me feel better about this. Ellie is simply very naive and dull. And this was supposed to be DEEP GAME, THAT GIVE YOU UNFORGETABLE EMOTIONS, WHEN YOU PLAY IT. After hearing most of the jokes I got feeling to leave my desk and go for a walk, that's how poor they are. Most "thinked through" decisions makes me think about the same stuff, but this time even for longer period without game itself. As far as I can understand some reasons to go out and travel (or maybe to seek for something), I totally don't get the whole conflict stuff in this game. People simply kill each other for no good reason. Young adult become uber blood-lusted killer, because someone killed her friend. Ok, got it, revenge tastes good. But what's the idea of revenge, if your only objective is to kill everything in sight?

Lack of logic in this game is terrific. Really, much older titles had npcs with better motivation - Witcher, Kingdome Come, whole Dark Souls series, not to even mention some proper storytelling games like TLOU1, This war of mine, Walking dead etc. Most of them had some bigger and smaller issues, but here we punched in the face with idiocity on scale, that I haven't seen in a videogame for a long period of time.

I don't know, maybe I'm just too stupid for this kind of experience, but I just feel more and more retarded when I watch it and play it. That way of storytelling was ok-ish 10 years ago, we could forgive that 20 years ago, but if games wants to be in 1 line with movies and books, they simply have to be better (more logical and more reasoned) than this. Game looks nice (not super, but graphical side is not something, that you should be ashamed of), music is ok (nothing very good, but I guess being uniritating also counts). Atmosphere would be amazing, if only the game and characters weren't so dumb - it really has got potential. But due to irritating caps for ammo (without upgrade you cannot take more, than 12 pistol rounds and 3 medkids, which is a joke, character WEARS GODDAMN BACKPACK), it is boring more often than satysfying.

Even the whole lesbian story isn't hurting me that much, as lack of proper gamedev do. They copied old solutions, pack them into nice package, prepaid reviews and voila, this should be great game. But it isn't. Don't waste your time.

However, the gameplay is truly incredible, the world is gorgeous and feels real, and whilst I don't agree with every decision Naughty Dog have made, this game does make you think and feel things on a philosophical and emotional level (even though yes, oftentimes it is beating you over the head with a very plain and obvious message that few would truly disagree with), and that is a wonderful thing for gaming to do. It's also very interesting to be forced to play as such an unlikeable character for so long that unless you're too stubborn to change, you can at the very least start to understand over the games run time. I've been debating whether this is a 7 or 8 out of 10 since I finished it, but honestly the unnecessary amount of hate has forced me to push my score up as it truly does not deserve the bombing it's received, and whilst I understand and actually agree with some of the criticisms, this is still an important game to have been made and I'm thoroughly glad I have experienced it despite its flaws. The enemy AI is painfully dumb even on hard, at one-point Dina squats down in a doorway at the knees of an enemy, he didn't see her and couldn't move through the doorway because of her. This just breaks the world and indeed drags you out of the immersion in a bad way. The combat system gets a bit tedious after repeatedly dodging and mashing the square button or creeping up behind an enemy and choking them out repeatedly, not to mention the jump button only works in certain areas.

A narrative breaking moment is getting Joel to forget all his survival skills by giving out is real name to Abby, this totally contradicts Joel's character from the first game. I derived no joy from playing Abby for nearly 10 hours, I had no investment in this character whatsoever and she overburdened the story in a needless way. I'm sure Naughty Dog once said that you only get to play as Ellie, that is quite deceitful of them and no wonder reviewers were not allowed to speak about certain parts of the game. All I wanted to do for those 10 hours was get back to playing Ellie.

While the game did display fantastic graphical vistas and some varied combat options Part II lacks the sensitively emotional style that made the original epic such a masterpiece.

The Last of Us: Left Behind DLC user score is 8.1 on metacritic which proves players didn't have a problem will Ellie's sexuality so using Bigotry as an excuse for bad reviews is used as a shield against criticism and contradictory to actual reality. The overwhelming majority of gamers don't care that a character is gay or straight, gamers care about the entertainment value, they care if the game was good and if the game was fun to play.

The Last of Us Part II is truly a spectacle. The gameplay and story are extremely well done. The pacing is perfect. The game looks amazing. Everything about it just works. I could totally feel for the characters every step along the way. Everyone should play this game.

Just to make my part, this the only way we can be heard. Disappointments from Brazil too, This game don't deserve 0 but is far from 10 I don't even bother to write a proper review. By GreyArlin in Jun 19, 2020 (
This game is a mess, it wants to be unpredictable at the cost of stupid acts). Perfect definition.

The Last of Us Part 2

The Last of Us Part 2 is a great achievement in games but it is not perfect. This kind of game shows the problems with review score inflation. Most AAA games are far below The Last of Us Part II in scope and quality and yet gaming review sites and users will dole out 7, 8, and 9 out of 10 like every game with a $50M or greater budget is a masterpiece. Most games are not that good. The Last of Us Part 2 is.

Narratively, this game is an epic. The story goes all over the American west and from different perspectives. There was a time when this game could have been sold as two beefy 13 hour campaigns. For better or worse, gamers expect longer campaigns and studios are delivering. This game took me 26 hours to finish and none of it felt padded. Like a Rockstar game or The Witcher 3, every segment felt meaningful.

My problems with the game are the controls and the abuse of cutscenes and scripted events. The controls are simply awful. The game settings have a few auto-aim options and I should have selected them. Aiming feels terrible and I often reloaded a save because I couldn’t make easy headshots. At one point in the game, an NPC tells Ellie that Ellie is the best shot in city. If that’s true, then everyone else must have the accuracy of Star Wars Storm Trooper. Selecting weapons and reloading could also have been easier. The odd controls include pressing the right trigger to reload and can only fire a gun while holding the left trigger to aim. In 26 hours of playing the game, the obtuse controls never felt intuitive.

The game has every trope from every forced cutscene that has ever been in games. The player character will be grabbed when you open a door or crawl through a small space. It happens about a dozen times and you might think the player characters would go start to go through gaps with their guns pointed. There is a horror game quality that necessitates a few jump scares but none of them are scary when they happen ALL THE TIME! There are also times when you know that an enemy cannot be defeated because they are an essential character. An experienced, cynical gamer such as myself will not waste their ammo on scripted events.

The overall story is good and I do not want to spoil it, but the story depends on the characters never telling each other the whole story about anything. The entire game could be over before it started if certain characters said “I am _____, from ______, and I am mad because _______ did _______.” Instead the motivations of the characters are dangled before us as some kind of emotional mysteries. Again, as an experienced cynical gamer, I see these things immediately and grow a bit frustrated with the player characters.

Last point on the story, Ellie is a toxic codependent personality and I do not like her or support any of her decisions. She gives her friends ultimatums and uses their affection for her against them. All of her decisions are selfish, no matter how petty her goals. Her friends are codependent enablers. Good people and doggies die because their toxic relationships with each other. The player is given no choices to alter the narrative. You cannot redeem Ellie. This story is a tragedy and you have to play it out.

All in all, The Last of Part 2 is a game of the year contender. While I do think this game has endemic issues of an industry that defines a “survival game” as a game bad controls and frustrating scripted events, the game is meticulously designed with a giant scope and many, many wow moments.

    Review bomb of course.

This is an amazing game. There are so many mechanics in this game and every single one is perfect. They even have other button layouts if the default isn't to your liking. The story is just as good as Last of Us 1. I want to play again, but it was a rough play through. The game is set to cause constant suspense... however if you use constant suspense you will

The story is just as good as Last of Us 1. I want to play again, but it was a rough play through. The game is set to cause constant suspense... however if you use constant suspense you will lose that suspense. That's why the game peppers in just enough to get you to relax and then amps the suspense up again. Truly amazing.

I'm several hours in and so far it's leaving me exhausted... it's as though the developers are punishing me for loving the first game. Maybe releasing such a tonally bleak and misery-centric game during 2020 wasn't the best move. If you play games primarily to have fun then I suggest avoiding this one. I'm going to return my copy. The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
