I loved this game as well as this franchise and I want to give it a 10/10 but it just falls flat of that. I didn’t think they could make a game that was as good as the first, this game will just make me want to play it again knowing what the outcome is. I will play it and try to get the 100% achievement in the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will begin with that the graphics and the detail put in this game is something amazing. The hard work of the people who worked on it can be seen and I commend them for that. If this game were about graphics and the such in which the plot takes a second place like a call of duty or a multiplayer all would be alright but sadly that isn't the case for a game whose main selling point is the story I feel the choices they made weren't the best. There are some interesting things in the game which build and expand some things from the previous one but they are so little and so in between that is hard to enjoy them. This game was advertised as a story about revenge and sadly it doesn't even fulfill that while there is some of it through the game that idea is half abandoned and then sloppy bring back at the end to the point it doesn't make sense anymore. I think that they would had a better result just exploring how life is now in a world with no cure and how after all this time people are trying to survive which in my opinion is the most interesting of the game. Seeing how cults and gangs are now being formed how even when rebuilding has begun people still seems to devolve into beings that are as bad as monsters. How things are worse instead of improving. I think that a story like that would had been better for this game. I may be wrong but I wanted to at least offer a suggestion. While pointing out my dissapointment Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Luckily this doesn't diminish how fantastic the first Last of Us was, but man what a disappointment. Try to make me feel sympathetic to Abby by forcing me to play as her for nearly half the game just does not work. The first game didn't judge or punish Joel for the morally ambiguous choice he made. It let us as the players make that judgment. This game spits in our face right off the bat and tells us Joel was wrong and deserved it. Then to add fuel to the fire it basically tells us that we need to like Abby, when she's not at all likable. It's truly unfortunate ND went this route with the story and completely abandoned what made the 1st so amazing.

The gameplay is still fun and the setting is stunning. Sadly those are not the redeeming qualities that would give this a higher rating. Definitely worth a playthrough if you enjoyed the 1st game, but a sad sequel nevertheless.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (Spoilers are relatively light in this review) - Right from the start you will be amazed by the beauty of the landscape and scenery. The level design is second to none. Once you start playing you will also notice the game mechanics are also immensely better than from The Last of Us (Part I). The fluidity in battle was elegant, and the fight are real, raw, and gory. Stealth capabilities are at an all time high with more options than ever. The HUD is essentially invisible allowing you to see the entire screen the entire game with no distractions and emphasizes the immersion experience. I also recommend playing with a headset because the sound was incredible as well! I believe that everyone that played this game can agree to the things listed above.

Now here comes the controversial part of the game... which is the story. The first game was about a tragic event that happened to Joel. In turn he shut his emotions down and locked them away. He was given a job to deliver Ellie to a rebel militia group called "The Fireflies" which was across the United States. During this journey you get to know Joel and Ellie much more as Joel slowly starts opening up to Ellie and starts seeing her as a daughter figure. By the end of the game he cares about Ellie so much he fights the militia group to get her back from them. One big take away from this game was a story of love and family which touched the heart of everyone who played it. Creating a masterpiece to never be forgotten.

The Last of Us Part II turns out to be a much darker story. One of the first themes in the beginning of the game was that there are two or more sides to every story. The abundant killings in the first game may have no meant anything to us, but to a character in this one it changed their life forever and they want vengeance/revenge. This game touches on so many topics like hatred, revenge, cheating, lying, betrayal, LGBTQ+, Trauma/PTSD, Phobia's and as said before multiple sides to every story. Lets be clear about the LGBTQ+ topics. At no point does this seems forced, pushed in your face, or changes anything about the game as your playing. You wont even notice so avoid reviews that make it seem as though this leads the story. On the other side of the previous topics there are so many beautiful moments where you see heartwarming and loving experiences that make you smile, laugh, and maybe even shed a tear out of joy. In the beginning I will admit i was a confused as to why they went the route that they did. But as you progress further things become more clearer, things connect, and you see every actions has an equal and opposite reaction that can spiral into a never ending cycle of hate and torture. One thing i firmly believe is that no one can tell you what the story will mean to you and how you will relate to it and the morals behind it. It is all for you to decide for yourself. From my opinion the story was excellent and far better than most games you would play today.

Even though i praise almost everything about this game highly I personally felt like the player to character connection was lacking for many new and unestablished characters in this game. Every player already had a connections to Joel and Ellie from The Last of Us Part 1, but aside from that it was hard to care about anyone else too much.

Lastly, I loved this game enough I went back to unlock the Platinum Trophy. As I was replaying I realized the way they wrote this story made it a replay game. With the information you know after completing the story originally you get to see the same story but viewed differently. Believe it or not it made the game even better. I found this to be incredibly well done.

The talent at Naughty Dog is phenomenal. Even though not everything was "Perfect" I would highly recommend this game to anyone. I think once the smoke settles people will see this game was beyond its time.

    I undoubtedly rate this game a 10/10

I can presume it will be Ellie getting her revenge most likely. Also, Killing off the main character in a dishonorable way is beyond me. You can see that there are many positives reviews from credible studios giving the game a 10/10 or 95 rating. This is completely alarming and shows the gaming industry’s agenda. The parts that let this game down are it's pacing, which continues to climb only to come to a complete stop mid way through the narrative, and some of it's story sections., my main gripes being the beginning and ending.
A lot of people are hating the Second half of the game, and I agree it's unnecessary, not bad, uninteresting or lacking in exciting moments, just unnecessary.

A lot of people are hating the Second half of the game, and I agree it's unnecessary, not bad, uninteresting or lacking in exciting moments, just unnecessary.
The story as a whole isn't as good as the first, again this doesn't mean it's bad, just not as good as what's come before.
So given what I've just written why am I giving this an 8/10? Because every other part of this game is absolutely incredible.
Graphics, animation, movement, sound design, music, lighting, acting, level design and user interface have all been heavily improved since the first game.
I often found myself just stopping to enjoy the level around me, instead of making my way through it.
I found the minuet to minuet game-play a joy and was never burdened by a clunky interface.
This game is an average story, with some great AND badly written sections, all wrapped up in one of the best designed and realised game worlds I've ever played.

The game feels like walking into a magnificent restaurant, being accompanied to a perfectly served table, very nice and beautiful music is playing in the background. The waiter serves you the most delicious steak you ever had in your whole life on an fine silverware. They bring the bottle of exquisitely aged vine to go with it.
Now here is the catch- just as you take the first bite, the waiter stabs you with a rusty screwdriver to the side. As you keep eating and drinking he keeps doing it again and again. No matter how delicious the meal, you no longer care and would not be able to concentrate on the meal and enjoy it.
In the end, you are being served a great looking bittersweet dessert but you never get a chance to taste it, they let you look at it very close and then take it away. Then you are politely walked outside of the restaurant

To sum it up I can say this game is an example where terrible story overshadows all other aspects. If you are looking for a game that has next-gen graphics, amazing audio and just want to enjoy very well done survivalaction gameplay, you should play this game for sure. If you are a fan of the first part and it's characters I would suggest you to stay away, as no matter how fluidly the game plays and no matter how graphics are amazing, you will just get frustrated and depressed by the story, and the enjoyment of the gameplay would be gone

(I had to watch the rest of the story and cinematic scenes from other people's play-through runs, to see how the story ends).

Regardless of whatever moral lesson, or story the writers want to convey, i'm never a fan of forcing actions or narratives onto others. I'm not going to play a game that forces onto me, an action that I wouldn't want to make. This game does this SEVERAL times, many many times, to the point that it feels like the writers are just badgering & forcing themselves on the player; there's no real choice.

+1 point for the amazing and beautiful world-building.
+1 point for the accessibility features
+1 point for the science-based, very well researched world plot and character development/psychology.
-1 point for lack of choice/consequence in your gameplay (it was absolutely on rails)
-3 points for several VERY FORCED story narratives, which i'm absolutely not ok with. You have absolutely no choice when it comes to the story even if it's morally conflicting to you.
-1 point for lack of more thought provoking puzzles.
-2 points for lacking gameplay (poor stealth system, repetitive gameplay... it was incredibly boring)

Again, last of us would've made for an incredible movie... I just didn't enjoy it as a GAME that i'm supposed to interact with, and be able to make my own choices. I don't really enjoy people forcing their own views or decisions on me... especially not the ones in this game.

Your first WTH moment will hit about an hour into the game while you are still in the Snowy mountains. From there it just gets even more ridiculous.

The engine is top rate but the story is atrocious and you'll learn about 2 or 3 hours into this game that you will probably never play it again after you finish it. It's that inane and tedious. If you paid to watch a movie that had fantastic special effects but an awful story would you feel like you got what you paid for? It may even be a chore to watch through to the end. That defines this game perfectly.

Beautifully made but with a Story that makes all that work totally pointless.

    Why Neil Druckmann?
    Why a revenge plot?
Why do the playable characters make faces like someones farted all the time?
Just feels like a Druckmann ego trip here and that will become more apparent as you progress the awful story.

So 5 for the graphics which make half a game and minus 5 for the Story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This one hurt...a lot.
This is without a doubt most beautiful looking failed game I have ever played. Everything that made the first installment great was systematically and pointlessly destroyed by this game in order to justify a ridiculously sub-par message of "revenge is bad" in comparison to the rich and morally nuanced story of TLOU1. The story falls flat, none of the new characters have any sort of personalities or meaningfulness to them (they just seem bland and uninteresting) and then almost all of them die.
The seeming climax of Ellie's character arc and potential resolution of the game as we know it (up until that point) is cheaply held as collateral in the gamers mind as they are forced to replay the same past 3 days except this time as Abby (the games poorly developed excuse of a co-lead that nd kept secret from the public) who happens to have killed Joel in a brutal way within the first few hours of the game. ironically enough throughout the 10 plus hours spent playing as her, she is never humanized and developed enough to the point where we can meaningfully empathize with her motivations to kill Joel or even who she is (due to exceptionally poor pacing and even poorer writing which failed to address anything of character-significance about her)
To me, it is completely fine if nd wants to kill Joel, I don't personally agree with that decision however there are ways it can be done in an effort that makes his death meaningful by the games own designs. What I cannot accept however, is that for half of the game that should rightly have been Ellies, we are made to play as an actual pyschopath. This is due to the fact that nd failed to show any sort of emotional impact that all of the senseless killings had on Abby throughout her time cruelly made as the lead. Conversely Ellie took the emotional brunt of everything and was intentionally and cheaply used as the emotional punching bag of the game.
The ending was laughable in that Joel's death was shown to still have such a traumatizing impact on Ellie after all these years to the point where she feels justified enough to walk away from the life she has, travel thousands of miles to track Abby down, and then in the throes of trying to kill each other for the second time in a revenge fueled duel to the death, Ellie is suddenly reminded of a coincidental and cheaply placed memory she has of Joel (which happens to be their last conversation, yet another slap in the face compared to the writing in TLOU) which causes her to forgive Abby, despite the fact it was the entire theme of the game to embark on a ill-realized and rushed revenge plot where violence is ruthless and nonsensical.
Instead of writing a paced out dramatic and emotional story, naughty dog has decided to manipulate and trick their audiences to come to their forced conclusion of how violence is a drawn out cycle (which this game never truly resolves). This game is an insult to character development, character motivations, and general story writing. Save your money.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Good parts:
The game is pretty and game play is great. It improves upon the original and I loved it through and through.
The flash back scenes feels like the real last of us. They have emotional weight and have some good character development for Ellie.
These are the only good things I found in the game.

    Bad parts:
Do the infected even matter in this universe now? There was no significant story arc involving infected. You can simply remove them from the equation, replace them with human and story barely changes a bit.

There is another big problem in story that affects game play in a very bad way.
You can't sympathize with Abby at all when you have a control of her. I started to not search for supplies with her and die on purpose just to see her die.
The game gives Abby all the cool weapons and the boss fights to make you like her but the first act of killing Joel probably the most loved character and some dialog in game itself depicts her as a horrible human being. Why would anyone want to play as her for 10 hours?

I loved the last of us and thought it did not need a sequel. It was probably the best story telling in video game that I have ever played. But they had to ruin my memory with this game.
The only way to explain story with an analogy is a dog taking a giant crap, steps on it and walks everywhere. It is stinky, messy and all over the place.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 was a game I was looking forward to since it was announced. Once I heard the leaks i didn't wasn’t to play the game at all but once I watched a little bit of gameplay, I found that the game wasn’t nearly as bad as the leaks made it seem. However, the ending for the game and the Abby half of the game were not enjoyable. When I play games I look for the story in the moment of play. I don’t try to look for any messages the story is trying to convey or hidden messages and I think that’s why I liked The Last of Us Part 2 more than most people. But I still didn’t like the ending of the game or the Abby scenes after Joel’s death. I feel like the entire point of the game was ruined by the ending. Ellie wanted revenge on the people that killed Joel but in the end she doesn’t even follow through with it. I would have much rather had an ending in which when Ellie is drowning Abby, she keeps having flashbacks of Joel and reminding herself why she was doing this and why she hunted Abby down. Then when Abby is dead, the kid she was with says “Abby, get up” just like Ellie said to Joel in the beginning of the game. Then at the end of the game in the farmhouse, after finding nobody is there, there should be a small clip of Ellie on the hills near Jackson walking towards the city, so the game goes full circle with the revenge tale and we get some closure on Dina and JJ because the game never says what happens to them. In my playthrough of the game, I had the most enjoyment from the first half as Ellie and the few scenes as Abby. I thought gameplay was fun and the story was good as well. The second half as Abby is when I started to enjoy the game the least. The player is forced to play as a character that they do not like at all and then to top all of that off, the gets to live in the ending. She killed Joel, she killed Jesse, she would’ve killed Dina if the kid didn’t say anything, she almost killed Tommy, and she broke Ellie’s arm and the game is telling me that Ellie had a change of heart after all that Abby did. It is the most unsatisfying end to a game that is a sequel to one of the best written single player stories of all time: The Last of Us. One of the most iconic video game duos gets shattered in this game with the death of Joel and he doesn’t get justice. It’s so disappointing to see where the writers decided to go with this game. There apparently is going to be a multiplayer for the game (why it didn’t come out at launch is beyond me) and that is the only reason I will be keeping the game installed on my console. In the end, gameplay for me is an 8/10, it’s easy to understand and can be quite enjoyable especially if you like the first games gameplay. However it can be repetitive (with the stealth takedowns and such) but that doesn’t take away from the experience that much. Story is a solid 5/10. Joel’s death is poorly written. LegacyKillaHD in his YT video “The People Vs. The Last of Us Part 2” said it perfectly. Joel in the first game was all about caution and taught Ellie about it but in the sequel when it comes to a complete group of strangers he willingly gives up his actual name knowing that someone would eventually come after him for what he did. Not to repeat myself but the first half as Ellie is the best part of the game and will be the most enjoyable part for anyone who plays the game. The second half just tries to humanize Abby but that’s impossible to do to a character who just killed one of the most beloved protagonists in gaming. This game doesn’t deserve any praise in storytelling and it shows, people are petitioning for NaughtyDog to rewrite the story to the game and I don’t blame them. This game is a solid 5/10. The gameplay is there but the story isn’t and that’s the main reason people buy single player experiences. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is one of the most immersive games I've ever played, I truly felt like I was part of the story. Although at first the change in perspective was very surprising, especially when you realize it's basically half of the game, it was very much needed and gave depth to all the characters. The moral conflict of every characters' decisions made the game even more engaging and almost by the end of the story when Ellie and Abby confront each other, you really don't know who to cheer for.

Since I played both the prequel and this game for the story, the repetitive gameplay doesn't bother me. I did enjoy stealth kills and the part with the mini sandbox mode when exploring Seattle was one of the highlights of gameplay since it gave the player choices and wasn't as linear. Lastly, I'm very thankful to Naughty Dog for giving LGBTQ+ representation in a mainstream video game. I'd love for a small DLC epilogue where Ellie and Dina get back together.

It’s about how you will loose things in life and how it’s hard to deal with it. This is shown because Ellie seeks revenge for Joel’s death. Naughtydog could’ve gone with another bonding story of the two characters we love, but they didn’t do that because there would be no need for a sequel. That’s why this game is different to the other, and I thought it was amazing. Expand

People want a good story with Joel and Ellie and for it to be justified. I get it, but the problem is that people forget one major important detail about a story: Stories aren't there to serve the characters. The characters are there to serve the story. This means the story is what needs to be in focus, and not about what happens to the characters. Stop being blind by the fact of how and why Joel died. The whole point of this game is to bring real life scenarios in an apocalyptic world. Truly, **** always hits the fan in an apocalypse and choices have consequences. Its been 20+ years since the 1st opening after Sarah, so people now know how to survive and everyone has someone whether its family or new friends In Part 2, Joel killed the Surgeon, and that Surgeon had a daughter, just like Joel. If the 1st game was from Abby's point of view, we would hate what Joel did and he is a smuggler and he did horrible things as well. He kind Marlene who she was initially against the cure for Ellie's sake. Joel is a troubled person, who needs Ellie in his life, because it fills the void of his daughter Sarah. Joel has become hardened, and because of Ellie, he gained a sense of purpose and a reason to keep fighting. That's why we all love Joel. With Abby it is the same thing. She is troubled by the fact her dad died and she doesn't know Joel and Ellie's story like we do in the 1st game. You have to have a birds eye view and see it from Abbys point of view. As im playing this game, you have to admit, noone saw this coming and the leaks meant nothing without context. They faked Joel being alive in the trailer because of the leaks and because they knew people would make a bug deal about it. By hiding it, they gave everyone a fair chance to have an open mind and see the story play out. Abby is an interesting character, and just like Ellie, she could've had a good family and good relations with Owen in the flashback 3 years earlier. She became obsessed with hunting Joel, that Owen forgot abby for a while and did it with Mel. Only after, does he want abby and him to be happy, but now Abby doesn't want to screw over Mel with Owen and regrets everything she did. She does regret the terrible **** she did in that one scene. She kicks the chair and cries. She needs Lev. Abby and Lev are the new Joel and Ellie so to speak, and ofc, we know they shouldn't replace the OG Joel and Ellie. The whole point isnt to like abby, the point is to see someone elses skde to the story. We were against the fireflies in the 1st, and now we see thier journey and a really interesting character involved. Her dad was the Surgeon and could've changed the world. No wonder she did what she did. What she did was wrong, yes, thats what the story is trying to tell you. All this pain, and what it does to people is sick, especially in this world. Thats why I love this game and it is a masterpiece hidden in the script. Ill be honest, some things could've been made better and Ellie didn't have to lose 2 fingers. They could've made abby be more obvious that she regrets killing Joel and that she would've been happier if only she let him live and take a beating, instead of us having to look for body language and to really understand her. Other than that, it doesn't change the fact that this game is amazing. It shows how a theme can do so much damage to one group and another. Different point of views. It helps you become a better person to evaluate everything. Abby lost everyone to Ellie and Tommy except Lev, and Ellie lost a lot because of Abby. Atleast Tommy and Dina are still alive. Gone for the moment, but the fact Ellie spares Abbys life, is a powerful moment. She wanted to do the cure, and Joel took that from her. But Ellie knows he did it for her and he needs her. This is a truly depressing game. Ellie in a flashback before killing Abby, saw Joel in the same scene we get to see later in the end. She forgave Joel, thats why she let abby go. If Ellie killed Abby, she would lose what Joel always asked of her. He wanted to protect her and by killing Abby, she would be no better. Abby here, is worse, because she did kill Joel. But the fact Ellie didn't kill Abby back, shows just how pure and strong she really is. Just like in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Katara didn't kill the person who killed her mother. Why? Because she said it herself. "I don't know if im too weak to do it, or too strong to do it." Exactly. Ellie is too strong to do it, because thats why its a masterpiece. She is better than all of us and she just wants to be with Dina and live a normal life in thi cruel world. *** Thats why Dina left. Because Dina didn't want someone so fueled and blinded after abby did spare their lives, because of Lev. ** Abby is becoming a better person, becahse she needed some1 to give her humanity back, just like with Joel and Ellie, and now Ellie needs Dina. Pt 3's coming Expand

The early death was necessary, it was the initialization to a great metaphysical story.
Without it, the game would have ended up really bad because a stereotyped heroic death would have been the case in addition to a typical story.
I hope the developer see the reviews which hasn't been written by braindead idiots, to see they did a great work and I hope the compliant people that has been sent by metally less gifted streamers don't ruin the 3th part of the game.

Never has a game come out with this many gamers missing the mark of the story. It's very to sad to see how many people didn't actually even realize what this story was trying to ultimately convey about the cycle of violence. The game shows the impact one act of violence can have and the domino effect it creates. Not some generic revenge story with a perfect good guy wins resolution. Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey both deliver excellent performances alongside a great script and story. Gameplay is brutal and crunchy making the player feel every gun shot and every swing of Ellie's knife. Gameplay is mixed up with the player taking on the game from a Abbys perspective showing a different perspective of the story. With the game originally creating a strong hate for Abby, over your time with her you start to understand and sympathize her as a character understanding that her motivations and experiences aren’t that different than Ellie‘s. This proved to be a great addition showing how non black and white the story is. Makes you rethink everything you thought you knew and makes you question between what's right and what's wrong and more importantly who's in the right and wrong in this situation, Ellie or Abby? That is the question that many gamers will be asking themselves well playing, and it's not a easy one to answer, even though at first it may seem to be. The Last of Us Part 2 is not a game that many will understand or appreciate. It's not a story everyone will enjoy not necessarily because it is bad, but because it requires the player to look into the story critically, being open minded, sometimes putting emotion to the side to better understand the actions of the characters and their motivations, and even trying to put yourself in the shoes of both Abby and Ellie to better grasp their thinking/headspace. Overall The Last of Us Part 2 is a masterfully crafted game with a incredibly in depth and mind provoking story. I beg anyone to try the game for themselves before making up their mind as I'm sure it will be worth your while. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have never posted a review on any game I have ever played but The Last of Us Part 2 deserves a review. The first game goes down as one of the best if not the best game I have ever played. Part 2, I wish I never purchased. If it were a free game, I’d probably never play it... I went into the game completely blind and did not look at one spoiler, the only thing I knew about Tlou2 was the trailer that was presented at I believe E3 back in 2018. I feel so lied to about this game. Neil Druckmann on record saying you will NOT be playing as any other character other than Ellie was a flat out lie. The trailers showing different character models in different scenes, is just the beginning. I have zero issue with Joel dying, it’s how they went about his death... if he had died later on, or if had survived and lived a happy life after, it wouldn’t have made me feel the way I did. After playing the first game, I felt a connection to Joel and Ellie, as if I knew them in real life, sounds dumb but it’s how I felt after playing the first game. Then forcing me to play as the person who killed Joel for more than half the game, I personally believe most people probably feel or felt the same way. Neil Druckmann you are a liar and a crook! I also want to state I have no issues with the gender politics that are in the game, if someone is gay or trans,so be it, I get it, it’s 2020, but forcing an agenda is what I have issues with. I can list another 20 things that made absolutely zero sense, but I’ll just list a few. - Joel and Tommy giving their names and location to a random group of strangers and inviting them to their camp to restock... come on... we know that wouldn’t happen... that’s a total cop out and a cheap way to introduce characters and plots into the game. - Adding awkward sex scenes into the game... really no need for that... - If you’re going to add 15 cheap hours of gameplay as Abby, at least go into more details as to why the Wolves were formed, rather than them just wanting revenge, give us more info on Isaac, his death was another cop out... to build this guy up as some mastermind, to then have him die so quickly with no real story on Isaac... - The ending gives you zero satisfaction, where was Tommy? Ellie decided to go search for Abby because of Tommy and you leave him completely out? Come on...

Again I can go on and on, but I’ll leave it at that!

This game gets a BIG FAT ZERO!

    ZERO OUT OF TEN!

Thanks @Neil_Druckmann for robbing me of $60! You’re a class act!

Certain new characters have so much plot armor that you have to question wether or not the writers were focusing on “gritty realism” as they claim they were.
The ending is one of the least cathartic, most pretentious and nihilistic piece of gaming media I’ve seen in a while, especially considering how little sense it makes due to the actions of the main characters at that point, whoever wrote it should be fired... Oh,wait.

Gameplay wise, it’s basically a glorified copy paste of the last game with some added upgrade options and way more linearity.

Overall the game would be fun but the story does ruin the whole experience, which is to be expected in a story driven third person shooter.

Expand

What i hate about this game is the commercials, the content of the ads were lying to everyone's faces that made us think Joel plays a major part of the story, and Dina was the reason for revenge (on the last commercial they posted up a few days before released). Not sure if i can ever trust Naughty Dog again, and i am not excited for a part 3 at all. Part 1 is my favorite, the story was simple and straightforward but very touching. Part 2, you made it too complicated and not everyone is buying it. Expand

if you enjoyed the first, the second one will blow your mind in different levels. It perfects its mechanics, its visual, its music, its cinematic and it takes the storytelling to whole new level, it make you experience how far dark side of the human beings can reach. Just stop reading reviews and just live the experience by yourself.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'll start this off by saying TLOU1 was my favourite game of all time. For the time it had stunning graphics, sound design and most importantly, an amazing story. When the leaks came out for this game along with the backlash, I made sure to avoid them because I wanted to have a completely unbiased view on the game as I played it. After now finishing it, I can say it has replaced TLOU1 as my new favourite game.

I'm not going to deny there were some controversial moments in it however, I still can't quite understand why people are so angry about this. What happened to a certain character set in motion the events of the entire game, and for the time I played as Ellie, I was beyond amazed at how incredible the game was. Excluding the gameplay (which was fantastic), the natural character building with everyone made me feel a connection like no other game has and my jaw spent most of its time on the floor.

Then we get to the Abby section. It got better towards the end of her portion of the game but no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't enjoy it to the same level as Ellie's gameplay (which is why I have given it a 9 instead of a 10). The confrontation between the two had me trying so hard to not fight Ellie because I wanted her to win. Whilst I understand what she did and why she did it, nothing could make me forgive her which is what decreased my enjoyment for a significant portion of the game. This still doesn't justify the backlash though.

No game has bounced my emotions around like this before, going from elated to borderline tears in a matter of minutes. Sure there were some shortcomings which has left the option for TLOU3 in around 10 years time once people have stopped complaining about a genuinely fantastic game, but the moment's people are salty over moved me more than any other game ever has.

Playing this game with an open mind was the best choice by far. If I had read the leaks and seen how agitated some people had gotten, it would've ruined the experience. It is a brilliant game and you can clearly see the 5+ years of development that has gone into it. Well done Naughty Dog, and I sincerely hope the negative reviews haven't affected their decision to make a third iteration.

NaughtyDog does it again. When it comes to storytelling they are the first developers that comes to our minds. This is an bold move into storytelling where a revenge story is not an action spectacle but an disturbing and depressing story which makes you ask yourself how far will you go for revenge? What is the cost? Will it be worth it? No doubt the gameplay, graphics, character models,NaughtyDog does it again. When it comes to storytelling they are the first developers that comes to our minds. After playing this game any other upcoming games feels and looks like nothing. One thing that i would like to say about this game is that after pplaying this game the first one feels justified and there could have been no other story that would have made you feel these rolercoster of emotions and successor to the first game. This game in every possible way including story importantly is far better than the first game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To start this game is a straight slap In the face to fans who fell in love with the original game. The characters are shallow and unplayable at times. The story is a train wreck from start to finish with only a few redeeming factors, and the new characters introduced are forced onto the player so heavily, it’s annoying. The first games story was so deep, characters were lovable, combat and fights felt smooth (at the time) the world was built so beautifully it felt you were there. Now what did TLOU2 do...well little to nothing. The story to start is a mess, so many plot holes you can’t figure out what is what at times. Characters who’s motivations and goals are confusing and at times can make no sense. The world is way more linear than the first which is bad, because the story than forces itself onto you without you being able to breath. On the other hand the graphics are a clear upgrade, as they should be for it being over 7 years since the release of TLOU1, the combat feels smooth and fights are intense, like the first game encounters with infected are thrilling and get your heart racing. The fighting is a good way to take your mind of the disaster that is the main story.

Moving on to the ending, Ellie is finishing her long and seemingly pointless journey, to confront someone who caused her immense pain. Throughout the story you feel hate, anger, sadness, throughout the deaths of Joel, Jesse, and the harm to Tommy and Dina, and Ellie, you think at the end you will get to release these emotions...but then the writers take a questionable route, and let the antagonist (Abby) leave with her life. Ellie then goes home to Dina but is found that they left with there son JJ. The credits roll and you begin to question everything. During the credits the only thing you can think was “what was the point.” What was the point of this story being told? Was it to make the player angry? Was it to make the player uncomfortable? I don’t know, and not many others do either. Overall the graphics are a beauty to behold, combat is tight and fluid, landscape is beautiful, but the sheer amount of flaws in the story and character motivations makes this game feel unplayable at times. If you enjoyed TLOU1 for its story this game is not for you. Graphics-9/10

Such beautiful graphics cant save a plot this bad, before getting into the plot, the graphics are of course gorgeous if not the best to date

Gameplay: it feels outdated, its almost the same has the first game with just a few improvements, for a gameplay thats 7 years old, it really shows its age, and i doesnt last for such a long game, also that the AI of the enemies is still fairly bad

Now the main problem, the plot, the plot is really poorly written, old characters act out of character, new characters make nonsensical decisions, a bunch of plot holes, and little respect to the previous game, all that made the first game's plot good was sacrificed for shock value and cheap tricks to make you feel, you will likely feel terrible playing this game, and it just gets worse and worse has you go trough, and you dont even feel rewarded at the end for all the pain this game puts you trough, if anything you feel like you wasted your time, like the entire game was just a waste of time that was utterly pointless, yeah the ending was also bad

In conclusion, the plot is terrible, and since this is a story driven game, then all i can say is that this was not a good game, its sad to see such graphics wasted on this

I understand that people say that the gameplay isn’t as bad as some people think and they understand why Naughty Dogs went with the way they did. But The Last of Us is about Joel and Ellie! Those 2 people are the definition of this game, so creating a game about another character for 10 or so hours is just not The Last of Us!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To me, the game fulfilled its purpose, it delivered the message in a way that's easy to understand, to those who haven't played or who are simply unhappy with the direction the game went is this, there is no good and evil, there is no black and white, we play as both the 'Protagonist' (Ellie) and the 'Antagonist', Abby, pretty evenly in terms of time spent, we see Ellie oncher bloodthirsty quest for revenge against Abby for killing her father figure, Joel, whole we see Abby go on a redeeming story arc about how she helped the survival of two siblings of a rival tribe because they had saved her. Now because we were with Ellie in part 1, we automatically perceive as everything she does as 'good' or at least justified, but in her quest we suddenly realise that Ellie has brought herself to Abbys level when she stabbed 'Mel' in the neck, not realising that indeed she is pregnant much like Ellies love interest 'Dina'. We also see Abbys justification for killing Joel as the head doctor of the Fireflies on Salt Lake City was indeed her father. To put this simply, the concept of Retribution is put under fire, even tho to many people it is the easier way to go, and with this, many people are unhappy with the way of the direction of the story, which is understandable, but just because you dont like the way this story went for our beloved franchise, does not mean the story is inherently bad, and does not disintegrate the value of the message within this game. (Also, I tried so hard to find the so called agenda that Naughty Dog tried to shove down our throats, and apart from one time at the very beginning, there was nothing else, it's not filled with SJW propaganda or anything like that, if there was, I'd say cus I too hate that) Expand

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
