This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I finished the game today (06/26) and cried a lot, not because of the story but because I waited six years for it and remembered how happy I was when I saw the trailer at E3. Well the first thing that frustrated me was the level designs. In the world of The Last of Us Naughty Dog showed us that unforeseen events happen, after all the world is in pieces, buildings fall, few resources but as a player, I felt that they happened a lot to increase the gameplay time in TLOU 2, for me this was very clear and they didn't need to extend the game like that. I would prefer to see how Joel got so different from what was shown in TLOU 1. To summarize a little, I felt that I did not know the new Joel and did not know what made him let his guard down for strangers who were close to Jackson. I agree with his death and I believe that it really gave meaning to part two, after all, he killed and destroyed several groups on his journey with Ellie, but he was not even cautious with those people he met (Abby's group) and it broke my experience. Moving forward, I felt very tired with the gameplay of the game, in many ways the gameplay from the first to the second is improved, the crawling part is very interesting and matches well with the style of the game, the player sees each object being placed in Ellie or Abby's backpack and despite being a small detail, they make the game look real. However, I spent hours going through infected, scars, and WLF without feeling the reasons to do that mainly in Abbie's gameplay, the island part of the scars was a deplorable example of that, and the part that Ellie went after Abby. Honestly, I didn't want either of them to die, despite having to make a big effort to like Abby's plot since he was depicted without emotion by the scenes and art direction. I really loved the fact that Ellie and Abby had mirrored sufferings, that would be much more interesting if the deaths of the loved ones were portrayed with impact by the writers. The Last of Us Part II has an identity crisis, tiresome gameplay for the game itself to make the player go from side to side to have more hours of gameplay. However, the plot itself is extremely dense and interesting, but for me, the way the situations were put together was confusing, with no impact when they should have and badly developed characters emotionally. The Gameplay stays true and expands greatly and impressively upon the masterpiece that is the original. Unfortunately this series is built on its story and the story of part 2 falls flat on its face as characters do not represent themselves accurately. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’ve been seeing all of the hate for this game and I frankly think that it is a large overreaction and partially a bandwagon. That’s why I made an account on here just to speak my mind. The preface this, I have played the Last of Us 8 times over the past 5 years. The moment I grabbed a PS4 I hopped on this game and it was a very moving point in my gaming. I consider it my favorite single player story driven game of all time. So to address the elephant in the room, I’ve seen plenty of reviews and memes on the “monstrosity” “dumpster fire” and “complete disappointment” that is TLOU2. That is simply not true. So from the beginning of this game, I had seen the reviews and I thought I was walking into a disaster of a game. I had briefly seen the leaks beforehand, mostly including Joel’s death, but I assumed that there was some major glitches or a completely horrible story that would outrage people. I played through the first few chapters and I was dumbstruck as to why people would think this game is bad. For someone who put so much time into the first game, the scenery, improved gameplay, and immersive story was a breath of fresh air and a great addition to the first game. The scenery: gorgeous landscapes, impressive graphics, the character mapping was pretty accurate, and the detail put into even the disgusting infected.

Improved gameplay: They’ve improved on almost every level here. New craftables, new unlockable perks and weapon upgrades, a new hand to hand combat system so that clickers aren’t an unbearable rage inducing thing, and PRONE. The stealth in this game has gotten a lot more immersive as you’re hunted by dogs and any wrong move makes you instantly regret it. Immersive story *SPOILER*: The early death of Joel and the moral grey area that the game gives you halfway through when you start playing as Abby is such an eye opener on the good that the WLF actually does, and it makes you feel justified regret over the killing spree you go on in the first game.

To top this all off, the alleged LGBT views being “shoved down your throat” is completely appalling. People are gay. It’s a thing. People have an issue saying that being gay is Ellie’s entire personality, which is untrue. I see her as much more of a hurt badass killing machine that sees the error of her ways after doing it. All in all, it did not make me feel quite as involved as the first game, but the scores it had been getting are ridiculous and unjust.

The game isn’t bad, it’s actually quite good, people just have a hard time thinking for themselves. A lot of reviews I’ve seen are from people who have also just watched the game on YouTube or Twitch. You have no right to rate the game until you’re the one that presses square to beat Nora’s head in.

Ok I watch a lot of critics saying that play with the character that kills “you know who” its detestable but it’s really a need of the game at least me, when Abby is kicking in the ass Ellie I felt bad (obviously) but then when Ellie is kicking and almost killing Abby I also feel bad because know we know the reasons why she killed “you know who” and we see how she also has lost people at cause of Ellie and if you see Ellie killed more people than Abby. Also it’s almost the same story of the las of us part 1 you go through half of U.S.A for nothing at the end. Abby is a big character, at the end we know what she’s been through and how that affect her. Yes of course we love Ellie because we’ve been with her since first game but Abby have a lot of history at first obviously I hate her with all my soul but at the end I didn’t want her to suffer. I think this game have a great end, a great history, great graphics, it’s great in everything, my score is a 11/10 Expand

I greatly enjoyed the game throughout and the graphics were amazing, however I feel that there was a few points it was lacking as it would have been much better to give you the option to kill Abby or not and I feel that they forced us to do the worse option of the two, other than that Joel's death cause which everyone is complaining about was expected, although people may not like the way that he died I feel that it conveyed the emotion of his death well, I can see why people are upset about it but it's sad to see him go Expand

The second part.. is just all over the place.. only for one brief time i just wanted to know why Abby killed Joel.. once that was revealed... The emotional rollercoaster started in the game.
I don't why this game feels like really bad movie.. or the walking dead series at the later seasons.. it is too long and too damn predictable. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm a person who hates spoilers so did not do my job evaluating purchasing this game and bought based on love of the first game. *********

Please read some reviews like Kotaku's where they have the guts to tell you the truth and not Naughty Dog lies. You only play as Ellie for half the game and the other 12 hours as the villian. So stupid to do with a beloved character like Ellie. This trick might work with a new IP but not for a sequel of a beloved game. I also just replayed the first game and left behind dlc right before this. I loved the first 12 hours with Ellie getting revenge but losing a bit of herself with each kill. Watching her get consumed by revenge and hoping for her to change and accept it. To walk away and live her life.

Then the game does a 180 and makes you play as the villian right after she murders one of you friends. I could not continue and only made it ten minutes making her die over and over again. I looked to see how long her segment was going to be. Thinking that I would be okay with a level or 2 but it's literally the second half the game, another 12 hours! Will not finish this game. I don't want to play as this character I want to kill and be forced to actively hunt down the Ellie.

Yeah I know they want to make a statement about how no one is truely evil and the backgrounds sort of mirror each other but not at the expense of a character I have spent over 60 hours protecting and another 20 hours playing as. Do this BS with new characters in the same world and it may have worked.

The las of us Parte 2 Es el juego del año.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is bad "The Last of Us" fanfiction pretending to be a video game. It's complete with the Original Character Mary Sue beating (and/or killing) the previous protagonists and having sex with the author's Self-Insert.

It is a perfect example of how a company can completely misunderstand what made it's previous product so successful and go out of it's way to destroy beloved characters.

Just like Game of Thrones Season 8 and The Last Jedi, it's a demonstration of what happens when people with more ambition than talent are put in charge of a project and mistake subverting audience expectations with producing a quality product.

Add into this Naughty Dog and Sony's false advertising and blatant abuse and misuse of the Copyright system to silence critics and the and you are left with a product isn't worth picking up at a bargain bin price, let alone a full AAA price.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ignore the 10/10 if your an actual fan of the original game. those are either paid media or players who have a lack of taste in good games. i gave this game a 4/10 because the gameplay is the 4. the story is inconsistent and lacks ALOT of emotion concerning characters. The old characters besides ellie get little time and their general character development from the last game is thrown out the window in this game. the new characters are quickly thrown in and you won't actually give a crap about them and if you do then you'll be disappointed when they are killed off in the most unemotional way. infact the characters in the game seem to act like the deaths are nothing besides ellie. but even when joel dies the game just brushes past it very quickly. none of the deaths are justified nor do they have an impact like the first game. i nearly cried when joel's daughter died, but in this one when joel dies, i just hate the abby the **** on steroids. the gameplay is violent and amazing but it seems to drag on in different levels. sometimes the levels feel empty because nothing is going on in the story progression. anyone saying people are mad just because joel dies is a freaking moron. It is one thing if you want to kill a beloved character, it's another when you do it in the most meaningless way. they used his death for "story drive" but there is no other reason and it's not a justified death. if they wanted to kill joel off fine, but make me actually feel something besides immediate hate for a new character and makes me completely disinterested in the games story. it almost felt at times that i was playing 2 different games with 2 different stories. obviously they wanted you to play abby and get to know her but at the beginning you don't give a crap about her and when the game ends, you still won't. graphics are amazing. so maybe 1 point extra should go to the game so maybe a 5/10 is the real score. but my bias toward the destruction of a favorite storyline of mine brings it to a 4/10. you'll love the level design and you'll enjoy the scenery. but the disgusting story flow and design will make you cringe most of the time and hate it the rest. anyone who blindly gives it a 10/10 or 9/10 should be ignored and only hinder good game creation. i don't know about you but i'd rather play a shorter yet better story designed game then settle for a long string of dog crap. but hey those 10/10 and 9/10's love their dog crap, so let them lather in it. won't bother with last of us 3 because they killed off all the old characters mostly and changed who they are and they killed of 95% of the new ones so you don't actually give a crap about the next games because it's just gonna loop back around to the fireflies and i bet ellie dies in that one because "plot development". save yourself 60 bucks and go buy ff7, it's a good game and storyline and won't make you feel like you're watching a tv show from the CW or crappy drama show. or play god of war if you haven't that exclusive is worth every penny and actually knows how to bring real emotion in a game. naughty dog used to know what that was but now they lost their way. I’m not heartbreaking by Joel’s death, but I’m frustrated by those contradictory actions both Ellie and Abby took in the game. When Abby saw her all friends are killed how could she bear not to kill Abby, instead she left them alive, but for Joel, she didn’t even hesitate. Abby also made some ridiculous decision like go to the scar base to rescue Lev from his mother who was tripped by herself to death, I almost laughed when I see that, all the actions come in vain and she had to kill hundreds of soldiers for that decision. And then after Ellie killed all the friends of Abby, she found out Mel was pregnant, she felt guilty and Abby also left her alive. How could someone with such sin still go after Abby and then again, she ended up saving Abby and lost two fingers! What a joke story! Is this story a dark comedy or something? Gunplay is fun as usual especially when wiping out the super whiny enemies.the addition of fending off dogs and new infected types is a welcome addition to the gameplay.Unfortunately the story in this game is absolutely awful.Do not trust the critics on this one, more than half of them were paid off by Naughty Dog. Aside from the performances by the main cast it does not save this wretched unwanted tale of unrelenting agenda pushing.Neil Druckman has created a compromised mess of a game.By choosing to go the Rian Johnson route by subverting expectations, ignoring playtesters and fans, taking advice from questionable sources, and forcing employees to go through rigorous crunch periods to push out this unrealistic and laughable phantasmagoria he conjured in his head. For a story driven game the writing is stunningly poor to the point where you wonder why noone questioned the choices Druckman has fatefully made.I will refrain from spoilers but everybody knows at this point the dreadful scene that appears very early on in the game. Why naughty dog? Why this way? Why do it so poorly? It was a heartrending scene in not the way they intended. To me it felt like Druckman was personally spitting on whoever enjoyed the first game because he felt like they enjoyed it for reasons he didnt agree with.As i trudged through this bitter clunky story i noticed the Ellie we love didnt even develop as a character, instead becoming static midway through. Why you ask? Because in order to fully insult fans of this game the plot needs to be sacrificed. The controversy surrounding the LGBTQ aspects in this game is of no consequence, its great to see inclusion and perspectives from people on all sides of the spectrum but poor poor misguided Druckman used this as a tool and a crutch.Hammering these character traits down so hard the game seems to be more concerned with the way the characters are perceived and persecuted rather than focusing on an actual story. Making such a spectacle out of Ellie and Abby's sexual preferences takes the opposite effect.Rather than presenting these traits of the characters as something positive and organic,it is used in a very ugly way by punishing the characters for being gay. You can look at it as being realistic but the fact is it is not done in a well executed way.Supporting characters have bad goofy dialogue, poor decisions are made to fit the plot, and a very unfitting and pitiful end for a certain character leaves a bad taste in your mouth. The first game was brutal of course but it had a big big loving heart and by the end you understood whyJoel loves Ellie so much and why he had to do what he had to do to save her. In this game there is no heart, just ugly depressing situations that leave you with no hope and no sense of catharsis by the time the credits roll by.I finished this game feeling burnt out. With whats been going on in the world in 2020 we needed a win whether it be big or small, but this game is one big giant loss.Shame on Mr.Druckman for foisting his vile view of the world onto us. We dont need this game. Personally the story ended for me once Joel made his promise to Ellie after saving her. This sequel is just a representation of a delusional fantasy from a very sad man.Go back and play the first one and dont buy into this. For 2013 the gameplay was fantastic but I felt it was at best routine and at worst felt bored. I still like the crafting mechanics but felt it could have been improved seeing as a similar AAA title 'Days Gone' had done this element better in their game last year. I discovered that I had a lot of glitches in my playtrue. I ran into instances when fighting enemies where I fell through walls into nothingness repeatedly. Other times, my character became stuck on invisible ladders while climbing walls. If it happened once or twice, I would let it slide but it felt like the game was made with a first day patch in mind. From a graphics standpoint, I expected much more. The graphics are improved since the last game circa 2013, which is expected, yet are not as groundbreaking as I have heard from friends. They are quite similar if not slightly worse than the graphics from 'RDR2' and 'GOW' which came out more than two years ago. That being said, the graphics were one of the things I enjoyed about the game. The story was difficult to get through. I was able to understand characters motivations but felt that the execution was lacking. I enjoyed Ellies relationship with Dina but could not connect with any of the other new characters in the same way. I felt that Jesse's character in particular could have been fleshed out more given the games running time, which ran longer than the first. It made me hard to sympathise with these new characters when the revenge plot kicks in. I think the game lacks the ambiguity of its predecessor. The first game made characters organically feel grey. Joel, Marlene, Bill and Ellie all had their own intentions that you could understand even if you disagreed with it. Most of the characters in the first seemed to show human emotion towards their actions, both the good and the bad yet the sequel strays from this. Even the worst characters in the first showed a glimpse of humanity in their actions yet the sequel takes all of the humanity out of the characters. Overall, in a story driven game if you find yourself at times bored and at others wishing to play other excellent story driven games such as 'Life is Strange' or 'Telltales TWD' then you know the story has issues. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 2 is a very polarizing game, with different narrative threads weaving together to make a complete story.

This game does an amazing job at showing how ones actions can have a huge impact on not just themselves but others around them. You can literally rename this game "The consequences of Joel Miller". All the major plot points in this game happen because of Joel decisions in the first game.

First let's talk about game play. It is leagues beyond the first game having very smooth animation and pretty good AI. In this game you would generally have 3 different play styles depending on who you are fighting. The WFL, The Seraphites, or The Infected. Also playing as the quick and agile Ellie makes it easier to sneak around. Then playing as the brutish Abby makes head on attacks a lot easier. Along with the gun upgrades and character progression trees, you have so much customization. This game is refined to the extreme.

Graphics/Art: This is one of the best looking games this generation. If not the best looking game to come out in this era. ND jammed packed this world with some much life and detail. Playing in the forest area of this game really made it seem next gen. The character designs and the art are out of this world as well. I noticed especially with the infected. The first Clicker I saw looked much more violent and deadly.

Music: Once again the Last of Us music is phenomenal the games soundtrack plays on every scene so well. Even outside cut scenes the music while exploring fits the tone of each environment you are in. 0 complaints from me.

Story: Let me just say this. This games story is beyond the first game. Let's get the elephant out the room; Joel's death. It makes perfect sense that Joel dies this way. Without even knowing the rest of the game his death in my eyes was done perfectly. Joel is not the good guy and never has been. Many in the in-game universe would describe him as a monster. Tess said "Joel we are not good people", Tommy hates those years surviving with Joel because they did terrible things. Joel has killed many innocence and has destroyed many of families. He has tortured and beaten so many people. Eventually that would catch up to him. Abby asked Joel "To guess who they were". Joel has crossed so many people he cannot even make an educated guess to who is coming after him. I love Joel but I can see he is not a good person and is flawed. He got the death he gave so many himself. Also it is perfectly in Joel character to save Abby. He has been in Jackson for 4 years and their main objective is to protect the people in their community and also expand it. They have saved brought people in numerous times over the 4 years. And that is explained within the first 3 to 4 hours of the game.

Now while following Ellie we get to see her get revenge on those who wronged her. While playing as her you feel her rage and you want her to kill everyone that hurts Joel. But something that was not expected was Ellie slowly starting to break down because of what she is doing. Nora, Mel and Owen are great examples of Ellie not having the stomach to do what she thinks she needs to do. Ellie part of the game is emotional and you believe in her the entire time. Also getting to see how Joel progressed through flashbacks was amazing. We get to see how soft and tender he became over the years. Really well done story telling.

Now in my opinion the best part of the game. Playing as Abby. When I first started playing as Abby I knew what ND was doing. And I was rolling my eyes because there was just no way I would side with Abby. But as her story continues and you see it play out. You began to realize that Abby has more compassion than Ellie or Joel. Many times she could have killed them all but she never wanted to end up like her biggest monster "Joel". She even runs parallel to Joel in the first game. While he found solace in Ellie, Abby found solace in Lev. By the end of the game I wanted Abby to win. Because she gave chance after chance to people who really did not deserve it.

Overall do not look at anyone in this game as good or bad. There is no black and white. Only shades of grey. Although I liked Abby in the end, she is still a bad and terrible person. Joel is still my favorite character but he is a monster.

Go into this game with an open mind and let ND take you on an adventure.

Great graphics, soundtrack and animations. Huge improvement in the gameplay, it feels much more smooth, technical aspects almost perfect. Plot quite simple but really emotional, very well dubbed. There are some problems with the story and the actions of characters but none of them are unreal or impossible in the game context, great overall after all.

Fantastic game. Worthy of the praise from critics. It's story line is ballsy but deep and reflective. After the dumb fanboy hate dies down it will be remember very fondly in the future. It's basically gamings own Godfather Part II.

They kill a fan favorite character for no reason other than shock value and just to start off a stupid revenge quest that doesn't even get fulfilled. They also force you to play as the killer and expect you to care for them. Such a let down compared to the first game. Expand

I think that Naughty Dogs forgot the main reason TLOU was so good. It was because of the relationship between Joel and Ellie and they end it very quickly but in a good way in my opinion

The Last of Us was my favorite game of all time. I played through the campaign 3 times. To say I am disappointed with this sequel is a massive understatement. I can't believe they did this to this game. Should be ashamed of themselves. Just terrible. And wow have the left wing games "journalists" been exposed over this one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This was incredibly bad. Forcefully shoving in current day politics and pc mindsets into a game. Story went downhill fast. And useless scenes just to show that naughty dog is "lgbtqrs" friendly, like that "bigot" scene. And by the looks of the reviews i can see im not the only one that was massively let down by this game.

playing as Abby for the second half was not good i really didn't like her at all , you don't make her kill Joel and then you want me to like her? how the hell am i supposed to like her as a main character ? it felt like forcing me to like a character i didn't want to like
killing Joel wasn't an issue for me expect it happened so early in the game , it was there , he had a past full of bad deeds he wasn't going to die peacefully in his sleep of course but killing him 2 hours in the game i really don't think it's a smart choice
game play was amazing , graphics and soundtrack are amazing , story not so much what i expected after the first game
such a letdown on the story side , i hope they can fix this with a DLC or anything else , i also hope they make a third part where they fix the story for the better , the ending wasn't the best , Ellie lost a lot and didn't get what she wanted , she lost Dina , she lost JJ she lost 2 fingers which means she wont be able to play guitar again the last thing that connected her to Joel , while Abby didn't lose as much as Ellie lost , they left the ending opened for a new part , which must be made as they cant leave the game with this ending , i really want to see a game detected for Ellie not anyone else just Ellie

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
