This game is visually amazing and the soundtrack and overall audio is so well done, it also does well in terms of representation however for me personally, without going into spoilers, the story falls short and is organised poorly. This game does not deserve the 0-4/10 range of reviews i believe that's an unfair representation of the game, equally it does not deserve the 8.5-10/10 range that is also, in my opinion, a biased representation of the game. This game is, realistically, somewhere around the 5-8/10 level, depending on your personal preferences. To some it will be bitterly disappointing and to others it will tick many boxes. I think the reason people give it the extremely low scores is partly due to extremely high expectations, this has a lot to do with the previous game and the overall problem of 'hype' which leads to unhealthy high expectations and inevitable let down, they also feel like they were. at times, lied to. A lot of things in this game were misrepresented in the marketing and that is unfair to them. Personal i would give this game a 7.5/10.
It is dragged down primarily by the story structure, pacing and narrative as well as tired gameplay mechanics which aren't improved upon much when compared to tje first game. It is pushed up by visuals, sound design and representation and some (albeit not many) instances of good writing.
Ultimately i would wait till its on sale but its worth experiencing at some point just not at its released price point.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great gameplay, amazing acting, beautiful graphics, with one of the best soundtrack scores of all time. Unfortunately the story was taken in a disappointing direction. The entire second half of the game all I could care about was about the story with Ellie as Abbey’s portion felt like a means to an end. Although it’s okay to take the overall plot in a risk direction, the pacing and organization of the narrative brought a sour taste to an otherwise solid game. Expand

I just couldn't enjoy the 10 or so hours playing as Abby as much as I enjoyed playing as Ellie. I didn't want a sequel for two of my favorites characters in games, just to be forced to play as someone else who I don't like.
I think the tragic part is that after playing this game, I kind of wish Naughty Dog had just left this story alone. I gave it a 7 because the amount of work that went into this is huge and credit has to be given to the developers. But unfortunately I think that the story was quite a big misstep which is a real shame.
To the people at Naughty Dog, if you read this. Please, if you aren't absolutely positive that you can nail the third game, and give the characters the respect that they deserve, don't make it.

I feel that the story would have been better if the game didn’t force the player to play as Abby for so long. Killing Joel is unforgivable for me. No matter what she did after, I’ll never like her. I call this game an amazing game with a miserable story. This isn’t a bad game, but it’s a game I don’t like. RIP Joel! Expand

I hated her but come to find out her and joel aren't so different. This game has a revolving theme revenge and loss. It seems the that people will go so far for revenge that they're willing to sacrifice everything which is why the ending is so bittersweet. In my opinion it was a fantastic game. It kept me on edge the entire playthrough and at times it was almost maddening to play through because of the feelings I had from moments in this game. I have given a score out of 7 out of 10 due to certain disappointing content but lets make this clear this isn't a bad game and I would deft say give a play until the end and make your own mind up.

    positive points:
    Stunning Graphics
    Amazing gameplay
    Large open world
    numerous weapon customizations
    Great Melee Fighting
    Long Game

    Negative Points
    Disappointing Story
    Characters not Likeable
Feeling cheated by Naughty Dog & lied too
    Various Game bugs & Glitches.
Not a fun game very dark
    Unnecessary violence

having played around 30 odd hours playing this game I can honestly say I feel cheated by naughty dog , as way back at the announcement of the last of us 2 trailer I recall Neil Druckman saying we care about these characters and we wouldn't do anything to them , hence in the first 2 hours Joel is killed by a very butch looking female by a golf club which was extremely graphic to blood spurting out of Joel's head , which I found was disgusting to kill him off in that way not only did naughty dog piss on the character of Joel but totally miss lead its fans , as I was expecting a better game and continuation from the first last of us , but instead we get a stupid ass revenge plot which a 2 year old could of written. If naughty dog was intending to do this kind of plot and be actually honest with there fans from the beginning , then the fans could of understood better as for mention there's a scene on one of the first trailers where Joel says to Elie do you think I would let you face them alone showing Joel's face to then the actual scene in the game Jessie repeats the exact phrase so again total bull crap from naughty dog as they obviously deleted Joel's face and replaced it with Jessie repeating that phrase.

Real shame naughty dog couldn't of treated Joel in more respect in giving him the death of like Arthur Morgan in red dead redemption at least Rockstar new how to respect there character instead of finding the most distasteful way of killing him. So I didn't enjoy this part and made viewing this very uncomfortable and if that was naughty dogs way of achieving this then well done naughty dog you did it well done three cheers , but for me playing the game I felt cheated and lied too.

Anyway lets give the game some credit the graphics are truly beautiful and all the buildings are detailed and there is many ways to explore each building collecting and scavenging as you go as you will need to be careful with your ammo as the harder you set the gameplay then harder it will be to find bullets and weapon upgrades so big tip conserve your ammo. I also like the melee fighting which feels fluid and with each hit and kill it truly does feel you are doing the damage as Elie is one bad **** with how she dispatches anyone who crosses her path to knife kills in the chest or throat with blood spurting out so again be warned it is very graphic

I did enjoy all the different weapons in the game to the revolver , shotgun , cross bow , to even a sub machine gun at the end so that was fun and you can upgrade each weapon on the weapons' bench spread through out the map. I found the game very detailed to all the level design to all the characters faces so much detail you can tell the designers worked very hard on this.

Lets talk about the levels and Zombies each level is very well designed and you can even see certain city building that the designers copied from specially noted in the Seattle map with lush grasses to all of the desolate buildings which some are very dark where plenty of the undead are waiting to pounce and there are plenty of different nasties to kill from the runners to stalkers infected bloaters shambles to one big ass baddy at towards the end of the game which i wont spoil.

If the story had been better written and the game was a continuation from Joel and Elle fighting the dead this would of definitely been a game of the year but due to naughty dogs bad story writing this completely ruined the game as the story plot didn't make sense was miss jointed from one side story flashback then back to Elle and to abbey i found it hard to keep up with what naughty dog was trying to portray as playing over 15 hrs. with one character I didn't expect and to be honest I didn't really enjoy as I kind of got lost with the actual subplot the ending was very poor and didn't really make sense and is not believable and then having played 30 hours I definitely felt cheated as I didn't achieve anything apart from frustration and annoyance of me wasting all that time playing.

So on my final thoughts would i say buy it well that's a tough one if you didn't play the first game and had no attachment to Joel I would say yes as the game as some nice points but if you are hoping for something like the same as the first game then I would say avoid as you will feel cheated like i di

The last of us 2 unfortunately doesn't have a strong story line when compared to its predecessor. The graphics were amazing (one of the best to date) and gameplay was great although there weren't many new additions to the gameplay. The game is still enjoyable with lots of places to explore and collectibles to find but story is a bit lackluster even though the game is heavily focused on the story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For me the Last of Us games are split 50/50 with one half about the mechanics, music, and graphics and the other half being the story. The first game smashed both and had a phenomenal story to which made you feel a proper connection between Joel and Ellie. So coming into the 2nd game with lose connections made it so hard to see Joel die, it was as if I’d lost someone in real life, the 1st game got me that connected. But I respect that decision and actually feel that was the best way to go about. Now the game could of done a few things like make us play as Abby first so we got more of an understanding from her side and maybe made us sympathies more with her. For me playing Abby was long and tenuous, but the one aspect I did like about it was seeing the side of what it’s like to be in faction (W.L.F). The ending I think could of been handled better we all have that connection with Ellie and so when she loses something it feels like we have to. So by going one more time to find Abby meant, not only had she already lost Joel but, she losses Dina and J.J and that last connection with Joel of playing the guitar, and in return she gets nothing back. I feel they could of allowed the ending too of gone two ways in which the player chooses to either stay with Dina and live her life or allow us to go and hunt down Abby and finish once and for all. This would of also of been interesting to see the stats of what people were choosing to stay with Dina or to go and kill Abby.

I’d still recommend buying this game because they do one half really well with the music, graphics and mechanics. They took a risk with the story and I don’t think it has paid of in the way they would of liked, I don’t think they realised how much of a connection we had with Joel and Ellie.

It is still a fun game to play and people complained about Dina and and Ellie’s relationship, Lev being trans-gender and Abby being to buff is just stupid. I liked what they did with Dina and Ellie and Lev it showed that even though the world had gone to **** there’s still that diversity.

Finally the one thing that concerns me now is if there is a 3rd game, if you remember when we first saw that teaser for Last of us 2 people went nut, people at the event where cheering. Now the only way I seeing there being a 3rd game is with Abby and Lev and could you imagine the response of a teaser trailer with those two. The reaction could be so bad there’s boo’s I’d like to hope there isn’t but there is very little if not no connection with Abby and Lev.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It could have became a masterpiece, but instead it's just ok

This review's vote is dedicated mostly to the game-design and program team work. Suggestions and the general game review are below
The game had all the potential to became a good and progressive mirror of our days with unreasonable hate, murder and cruelty. Many things though are completley ruining all the good and bright ideas wich are the most important thing of a game like this one.
First of all, my condolences to the game-designers and program writers, this vote I give purley to your work with eyes completley closed to the storytelling and characters writing. You deserve a better story.

The 7 goes to incredible work:
attention to details is huge, the way Joel covers his eyes whle the sun is up too bright, the way that ice breaks under pressure, the snow melts on the character's jacket, all theuse things are impressive. The progressive face animation is gorgeous, the movemens are so natural, realistic and, at my opinion very beautiful
The gameplay is mostly the same of a 1st game so there are no disapointmens in here, with some more things to do, like the rope that you can now use to climb in some locations etc. (the camera movement though makes me a little nauseous, the less blur would be great :)

And w're done with positive aspects

FIrst of all, the characters. They are a quiet forgettable. Close to the end I didn't feel anything
They are written, in my honest opinion and in many others, really really poorley. The idea that they should bring us is too much at the surface. It could have remain the major important theme of the story, but with more "elegancy", I'd say, integrated better into a post-apocalypce world.
Instead of making us play 10 final hours straight to the unpleasant (for most fans of 1st game also hatefull) character with a sad-sad story wasn't a good move at all

I see it narrowed better in this way:

-Reduce these 10 hours of Abby gamplay to atleast 5-6. And then distribute all these hours in between the Ellie gameplay. Like: one day of Ellie in Seattle and then the same day of Abby but shorter. This would have made the story more intresting and less boring. (that's why 7 in tot for gameplay)

-All the actions have it's consequences. After the huge story (wich could have been legendary, but it is very very flat all the sudden) we have a pointless ending, that (as I personally understand it) should have show us how self-distructive is hate for both sides.

But it is not that intuitive as the developpers might have thought it. I pretty much hate the fact that when the most of the playes disiked the game, the developers and "huge fans" with anger are accusing these gameres in intolleransy and call them a closed-minded. I'm personally always pro the new ideas, the new, better world with no (or atleast with less) hate and ignorance. But I would rather like to speak and hear aboud it a more profound, less superficial way. We gamers are not stupid:D
When you throw a game like this, throw a bunch of money into a project, a Huge quantity of the human resource for at the end give us a really cheep story with magnificent decoration, it brings back as a response a lot of noise (I'm starting to think This was your goal), and insead of understanding the idea people doesn't even notice it. They are just feeling anger, saddness and emptyness because of a spit into a soul. Murder their favorite character in a brutal way and then cover it with a poorly written story? I understand the reasons, I know what Joel've done.
But then you make us play for the "antagonist" while trying to raise sympathy to it? You can't start to sympathize a person just because he saved a zebra once. You can't do in either just because that person had a beloved dog wich "mean" Ellie murdered in a cutscene (in self-defense, I remind you). Forcing to hate Ellie and love Abby feels queit wrong. This is a cheapest mode ever existed to provoke compassion. If only the Abby's story would have been told with more accuracy... With less stamps. I am really sorry for what she's been through in her childhood. I'd like to know better This story, than to see how the writers are worthlessly trying to create a parallel between the duet of Abby and a child she starts all of the sudden to carry about, and the immortal duet of Joel and Ellie. These two aren't to replace.

-At the ending I'd rather like to have a choice who to fight for in a final battle. After a better storytelling than it is now, understanding better real reasons of both sides a gamer would have think very carefully whose side he is in.
And than also to have an option: to kill or to spare a life
This ending would have blown everyone's mind

To return into a equilibrium position (tollerance) from one of the extremes(hate) the pendulum should first bend to an opposite extreme. how many old masterpiece games series will we lose trying to rich it? Atleast do it better
    Total game vote 3

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, a lot has already been said about this game, much of it a clumsy, repetitive, awkward pounding of trite ideas, to the point where I have to tune it out just to keep my sanity. Which for me is a perfect metaphor for the narrative style of this game. I will preface this by saying, I really, really wanted to like this game. I gave it every chance, overlooking questionable decisions early on because I just wanted to really like it. I was totally on board for like the first 8 hours. I really was. But ultimately, whereas I didn't hate it, I didn't like it. It just .... was something I did for 25 hours. Long before it ended, I was done. Well, let's go with some positives, and yes, there are a lot; the world we inhabit is stunning. Amazing. How it looks, how it sounds, and how it feels to be in it. The AI is just awesome. Responsive, smart, and the Seraphites (although a pretty obvious rip off of the Walking Dead with the whistles and all) were a fun new wrinkle to deal with. The gameplay is fine, what I expected, and definitely serves the game well enough that I had no issues with it, though I won't say it broke any new ground, except maybe the prone movement was cool. Some of the new characters I liked a lot, and almost wish we could have seen more of Dina, Lev, and Jessie. The acting is top notch, even when the writing fails it. I'd even say the acting (and the animations that accompany it) saves parts of this game. Some of the cutscenes/flashbacks were very well done, and actually moved me. The final scene with Joel and Ellie makes me long for what the game could have been. But ultimately, this game is not about combat, or multi player, or any of that, this game was going to sink or swim on it's story. If you are going to take bold risks with storytelling, you have to craft it perfectly, be incredibly skilled as to how to tell a compelling story without letting me know what you're doing, without these "bold ideas" getting in the way of my involvement with the narrative. Instead, we end up completely trapped by it, with cheap manipulative pandering, and relentlessly pounded by an annoyingly repetitive, clumsy idea that SEE ABBY HAS A STORY TOO SHE ISN'T BAD SHE HAS A DOG GET IT SEE GET IT. Someone said it was like there was a neon sign in the back of each of Abby's scenes that said "PLEASE LIKE HER THE SCRIPT REALLY NEEDS YOU TO". I almost punched my screen when Yara says "oh Abby, you're such a good person". The repetitiveness and clumsiness insulted me, and ultimately bored me. It's not like it was a bad idea in concept; but it kinda felt like the writers had this idea, without the skills or craftsmanship to pull it off gracefully, and just went with cheap parlor tricks to manipulate us rather than a great story/character to involve us. I could see the themes they wanted to explore as a backdrop to tell a great story; with the right handling, it could work. But not AS the story. I mean, if you want to explore revenge, forgiveness and the cost of it all, OK, not that interesting, but OK, not awful either. But it just isn't sturdy enough to support the entire story on it's own, without anything else to prop it up, and eventually, the narrative buckles under that weight. It's almost like they wrote this as an exercise, something a 2nd year English class would do, "change the perspective of the story to make us sympathize with a previously hated character". This game would likely get a B- on that paper. They got so wrapped up in the theme, and the ideas, and the twists, and being all clever; they forget to tell a good story. I gotta admit, I was in shock when I found myself shouting at my screen, mocking the dialogue, Rocky Horror style, so relentless and clumsy was their attempt to make me "relate to Abby". But the real disaster there is; it took me out of the game. I was no longer in the game, but just watching it. I have to admit; that kind of deflated me a bit, because I really wanted to like this game a lot. All that said, in comparison to other games, it is not a bad game. At all. I applaud them taking the chance, and like I said, it looks and sounds amazing. It has it's positives. It gets a 7, because with they attempted, and how well they do parts of it, I have to grade it on that scale. But weirdly, sadly, and surprisingly, after years of anxiously waiting for this game, the one thing I did not think I would say after playing The Last of Us 2. I don't care if they make another one. And that kinda sucks. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Going into the game I was worried with all of the leaks, hate around the game, and so on. I was quite surprised to realize that my experience while playing the game was generally good. Now, let’s start off with the visuals. Of course the graphics, sound, score, and atmosphere of the game is a 10/10. The sound design is probably one of the best parts about this game. Besides Red Dead Redemption 2, I’ve never been more immersed in a video game. Now for the Gameplay. This is where I begin to have a few problems. The gameplay is good don’t get me wrong but while I was playing as Abby I had many issues breaking windows when an infected was nearby. I’ve heard many people say that the gameplay gets repetitive but in my opinion it doesn’t. I actually had a much better experience playing as Ellie than Joel. Ellie is much more agile and quick than the bulkier but stronger Joel. The animations were brutal and at some points made me cringe. I really loved the new puzzles as well. Instead of just moving a latter or a wooden plank, now the game slightly challenges you when it comes to these puzzles. The accessibility features were also one of the best parts of the game. From being blind to deaf you can play this game. It’s absolutely nuts. I experienced a few bugs but it didn’t take away from the overall experience. Now we go onto the most controversial part. The story is pretty good. It has many issues however, and I’ll touch on them later. The story was compelling for maybe about 75% of the game. The first hour or two in Jackson is pretty lighthearted and fun. It’s great to experience the true friendship between Ellie and Dina. One complaint however is that they never act like an intimate couple like how they are said to be throughout the story. They just act like friends that sometimes kiss. Ellie is as interesting as ever while Dina is likable, but boring. She’s literally a brown Ellie. Jesse is also pretty boring but fits right into the story so I have no problem with him. Joel’s death scene was done to near perfection in my book. People criticize the story because “Joel gives away his name and that’s out of character. “ When in reality Joel has been living peacefully in a loving community for nearly 5 years, so of course he’s softened. It makes perfect sense. I feel like people are finding ways to be mad because Joel didn’t die an action hero death. That’s the point. We are supposed to feel like Ellie. Mad. After that however the pacing, one of the biggest problems with the story, takes a massive hit when it puts you in a calm Seattle environment doing puzzles and riding horseback while Ellie jokes around with Dina. It’s a fun time, but it doesn’t complement the tone of the story. Especially considering what just happened minutes ago for the player. Seattle Day 2 and 3 however are extremely dark and fit well with the tone and character’s feelings at the time. At one point in day two Ellie even dismembers one of Abby’s friends to get information out of her, and Ellie seems very traumatized after that experience. Then we arrive to a very poorly done character death. Jesse. He gets quickly shot in the head by the antagonist, Abby. And then, at the climax of the story, it takes us all the way back to the beginning and makes us play Seattle day one, two, and three, but from Abby’s POV. The first day was probably one of the most boring experiences I’ve ever had in any video game because I felt no motivation to play as this character. However, on my second play through I appreciate this chapter more and more. It’s the start to Abby’s redemption. She regrets killing Joel in the way she did, and she knows she’s a bad person. She begins to reconnect with humanity after meeting two children and helps them on their journey to give them a better life. After some amazing set pieces and boss fights, we reconnect to the main story. Now they make you play as Abby to fight Ellie after she finds out that Ellie murdered her friends in vengeance for Joel. I felt extremely conflicted but continued to play. The ending is the best part of the story for me. Ellie goes to Santa Barbara to hunt down Abby one last time. In the final boss fight, Ellie let’s Abby live. Knowing that they both have lost everything, and that it’s too late. Ellie ends the cycle of revenge. The story is about forgiveness. Ellie never got to forgive Joel for what he did, and Ellie sees hope in Abby and Lev. Both women’s lives were consumed by obsession over revenge. And Ellie knows this. However, it’s too late. Ellie’s worst fear has come true. She has lost everyone she’s ever cared about, and so has Tommy due to his obsession. He lost his wife and his brother. These characters are the most human in any video game, acting irrationally and impulsively. While the story has many flaws it is still a brilliant one. Expand

The technical quality of the game is unquestionable and I had a lot of fun with the gameplay. However, the story left much to be desired and left me frustrated. The characters had a return instead an evolution and some even suffered from lack of charisma.

Unfortunately for people like me who waited 7 years for the epic conclusion of this story i got disapointed with the way the story was portraied, it was written badly, if they wanted for us to conect a bit with abby we should have played with her in the beginning developing her story until the moment of her revenge, not like they did.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I only review after I finished the game. Spoilers!

    PRO:
Graphic and physics in this game is amazing for PS4. The environment are good and sometimes better than RDR2.
Gameplay are better than last game. The stealth element, firearm, crafting etc...
Every cutscene is like watching high budget movie.
    Voice acting is top notch.

    CON:
    Random repetitive flashback over flashback.
    Storyline is a mess.
The new character Abby was poorly introduced. Yet you play her 50% of the game. That's like playing Star War game expecting to play Darth Vader or Luke but you ended up playing Jar Jar Binks for half of the game and expect you to empathize the character.
It destroy the whole dynamic why I love the first game.

    OTHER:
We also introduce great supporting characters like Jesse and Manny. You eventually get to know them but ended killing them off like nothing.
Lev is basically Mulan in a post apocalyptic world.

    Ending:
A lot of people are not satisfied with the ending that's because after going through everything it made the ending all for nothing. It felt like ending of Mass Effect 3. All that work meant nothing.

    CONCLUSION:
It's not a bad game. It's an okay game. Not worth the full price, but only because I wanted a sequel from the last game. Naughty Dog tried to gamble and it didn't work out.

I finally finished The Last Of Us Part II.

Graphical it is a marvel/masterpiece to look at everything within the game. The detail and the enivornments look amazing.

The gameplay is really good and if it ain't broke don't fix it motto that I learned from a long time ago. It follows the same as The first game and does a couple of new things that is good too. Although you do the same things a lot and does get tired for a bit but didn't bother me too much.

Now onto the story/characters. I have to say the story in this one is not as outstanding as the first one. I can see what they were trying to do with Ellie and new character Abby. I can understand the message they were trying to do as it is about Revenge as the main theme but I felt it focused on it too much and it did get a little sloppy in writing structure.

It didn't have a glimmer of light too much unless it is the flashbacks which they were good to look at.

I dont mind a dark story and knew I was going to expect that when playing The Last Of Us Part II but too much. Also I felt it did drag a little bit and tried to do too much. If it had tightened up bits in the middle then I would have said it is brilliant. Some scenes I felt were in the wrong spots needed some moving.

I didn't like killing the dogs and why was that in there. It puzzled me they were meant to be bad but still didn't like it.

I do love Ellie and Dina's relationship in the story and I did like Abby with Vara and Lev as they produced some nice character moments. I do like they showed that everyone has shades of grey which I feel a lot of people didn't get at all but needed some better writing.

Now the ending I wasn't pissed off about I understood why they did it but again I think the writing again was a little off and make people go what the.....

It is a good game and worth checking it out. I wouldn't be replaying it over and over again like The Last Of Us but worth giving a try.

I would give it a 7/10 for the look of the game and the gameplay being excellent. The story lets it down as it was a bit long and played out but understood why they did.

I don't mind if The Last Of Us Part III doesn't happen

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I tried to write this with minimal spoilers but there is some major ones towards the end regarding Ellie. So don’t read if you plan on playing, which you should it is a great game to play but the story to me fell short. This game was a personal let down, in regards to the narrative and characters. To clarify when I say characters, I mean how their stories are told and how they are presented, not their gender, build/body type, or their sexuality. The writing was ambitious and well done for what they were going for but it missed the mark. Firstly, Joel’s death was mishandled, I got no problem that he died but I do with the way it happened. To have no build up or suspense it lacked the punch it should have had and the whole situation was unbelievable. Two guys that have lived in this world for so long to have them (Tommy) open up and reveal their town and who they are to strangers that are equipped like a Marine raider detachment is bonkers. Joel was spit on this whole game which I would have been fine with if it was done better and in a more believable way. Then Abby... oh Abby, she is in fact “a piece of **** in regards to her writing. To have this plain revenge is bad story, but then to have a main protagonist, THE main protagonist feel no remorse for torturing and murdering doesn’t make sense. It would’ve been fine if she was just a plain antagonist but to have her kill a beloved character but then forced to feel sympathetic for is bs. I get it, their is no good or bad just people trying to survive and Joel was not a saint and to her he deserved it but they made us feel for him in the first game and we grew attached to him regardless of his choices which can’t be said for Abby. Throughout the game when it was made clear that you are made to feel for her and the writers shoving it in you’re face that they want you to love her, it ended up making her less likable due to the almost manipulative writing. Last for story/characters is Ellie who took a backseat in a narrative that is supposed to be about her. The cure and the virus is not even a minor plot point in this game, besides Ellie being immune. A seven year wait all to have this whole story arc get abandoned and traded with a generic revenge plot with a unsatisfying ending and focusing on new characters instead of Ellie is disappointing. The ending was a kick in the no-no square for us and Ellie. She throws her relationships in the bin, all for revenge but at the climax when she can finally achieve her goal she backs out and leaves us wondering what the hell was the point? Even though I dislike where they went with it is still well written for what they were going for and if you did like the story, awesome I’m glad you did it’s still a good game but for a narrative driven game it fell short for me. In regards to actual gameplay/graphics it is a blast to play and the best looking game on the PS4 especially on a 4K TV with HDR. If you loved the first one’s gameplay you will still love this one. Although it does lack innovation and any new major gameplay mechanics. The graphics is another story, the attention to detail is amazing, from the snow flakes to foot prints in the mud and snow the game is breathtaking and the graphics design and art team are among the best in the industry. Overall the game is good, it plays and looks like a next gen-title however for a narrative and character driven game this is were the game falls short. Even though the story was disappointing for me, like I said above, I still highly recommend playing. In regards to the threats and uncalled for comments towards voice actors and staff that made this game, in my opinion they are some of the best in the industry and none of them, no one for that matter deserve death threats for working out on a fictional story. If someone like Laura Bailey and the writers can make you feel that upset about a character that means they’re doing a damn good job. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is good, but not what I expected. gameplay, graphics, combat, accessibility was perfect. Story and pasting wasn’t. I think playing as Abby is irrelevant, for me she wasn’t a well written character, her implementation in the game feels forced and fake, and I just feel that the gameplay throughout her part wasn’t a “the last of us” style for me it felt more like uncharted (more in the seraphite island). And I just kept wanting to go back to Ellie. And in general this game doesn’t feel like a The last of us. I’m ok with Joel’s death, but I really think Ellie should’ve avenge him at the end. Or they could’ve found some other way to justify her forgiving Abby at the end, maybe Lev saying “please stop” reminding Ellie what she went through. Idk I just keep thinking of a lot of ways they could’ve done the story better, but well, I think that’s a good thing because it keeps me thinking of it’s story. I understand what they were trying to do, but I couldn’t buy it at all even though I tried. It’s a good game but no 10/10. And no better than the first one. Expand

Story-wise there where some fantastic and moving moments, yet also moments where the pacing felt off (story has unusual structure and some bits of the game where nice but could have been left out) or characters decisions didn't feel as though they completely added up from what we knew about them (but aren't too unreasonable and they do have to make a story) plus characters didn't have the same level of chemistry between them that made the 1st game so great. They made a compelling story / narrative about the nature of revenge, characters where able to break out of the cycle though it took a great personal toll on them. I like how these games have used the all too familiar zombie apocalypse setting in a unique way for character based stories, that shine a light on human nature (but not just in the sort of way that only shows how messed up things can get), yet aren't always out for a happy ending. I applaud the devs for being brave and creative and not playing it safe, could have been more polished but keeps it interesting definitely.
In regards to game-play again moments where I was on the edge of my seat, and a well balanced degree of challenge for each difficulty (at least from what I've heard and what I'd expect from normal difficulty), the few boss fights where all really enjoyable, great graphics, sound and decent AI; then times when the world felt big but not interesting enough to want to always explore it, looting felt mandatory as supplies are short, which makes sense but isn't always that fun (it takes ages) but you have to do it for the small chance you find a new weapon to use. Similarly levels where perhaps a little too big, I liked the more open feel but bigger doesn't necessarily equal better. Also they could have added more features to it, plays like the 1st game as there is only 1 type of new zombie and only really the addition of dogs added to the stealth / human fights, on the other hand I liked the combat in the 1st game and wouldn't call it bad just a missed opportunity to do more.
As for the problems others have had, I'll briefly discuss them here. I still found Abby a well written character and her half of the game is still compelling to play, her character arc may even be the better one, people weren't too accepting of a new character/ group but I didn't mind too much. Killing characters in a thought out way shouldn't be a problem especially when the whole idea of the game revolves around it. Killing dogs in a video game when they are trying to kill you also should be fine. They do push a bit of a SJW agenda, for most the game I was fine with it as they didn't break the 4th wall to give a message to the player it was just trying to normalise, gay relationships and buff women (which makes even more sense for one that fights so much), the kids gender preferences where harder to believe, but there is nothing wrong with it, just at this point it felt too coincidental to have all these things together and it took me out of my immersion as it felt the game was pushing something, this can be included but it annoys me when media goes out of its way to spread the message it takes away from the story telling when it is too apparent in my opinion. It also felt a bit unrealistic the girls fell so deeply in love so quickly, but they had known each other a long time perhaps some tweaking would have made it more believable.
As for the reviews on this site: the reviews that give 0-3 out of ten some an hour or so after release are probably from people who care too much and are honing in on anything bad to say. Those that are giving 10's are perhaps tying to balance out the overall score personally I think the reality is somewhere in between. Critic reviews also seem unusually high, if its that they need to write good reviews to get invited back, then this is a shame and would explain why they are so far out from what the community is saying.
TLDR / conclusion: the hype around this game wasn't met up to but I think we had insane expectations too. The game is good and if you where like me a big fan of the original and interested in what happens next then I'd recommended; otherwise it's up to you its no masterpiece but still a decent triple A game which also feels unique, both of which are more of a rarity for games these days so for that it's worth considering if you want something to play for 20-30 hours, and are okay with the price tag (but that is a different debate). For those unsure still playing I'd recommended finishing it as I felt the same near the middle of the game but it does pick up and I was satisfied with the ending but get why others may not be. As a final note this game is violent and dark at times due to the setting and themes it has, if that isn't for you this may not be your cup of tea.

But this game shows that life in a post apocalyptic world is not all ponies and roses, it’s a nightmare. It shows you that there’s a price to pay for revenge and the actions you take. But I believe that the way they told the story could have been better. They shouldn’t have killed Joel so soon in the game and at least tried to make Abby a more bearable character. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think the fair rating for The Last Of Us 2 is 7 points. Since the plot really disappointed me, well, he doesn’t get to the right level of Naughty Dog. They can do better and we know that, we believe in them and will believe. Why score 7 points out of 10? 1. Graphics - this is not earthly delight for the eyes, I give it 9 out of 10. 2. The development of details, and very small details ... it's something wonderful, it's nice to look at it, the Naughty Dog team really tried and it shows, they are cool guys . I will put 10 out of 10 to this aspect. 3. Living characters. All characters of the game are living, and individuals, with their problems, experiences, characters and desires. You are not indifferent to anyone. This aspect deserves 10/10. 4. Game mechanics. This part of the game is also worked out beautifully, but there are some bugs, but everything is fixable. The most enjoyable mechanic for me is crafting items and playing the guitar. This aspect gets 8 points out of 10. 5. The plot. This is the most painful and weak point of the game, the loss of Joel ... Ellie did not take revenge on her father’s killer, but released her. Okay, let's say and imagine Ellie got what she wanted, killed Abby. I returned to my girlfriend Dina and her little son, and found that she was not at home and Dina disappeared with the baby, and here we would have penetrated Ally more than what happened in the original, because Ally had a family and love of her life, but her one act of revenge - erased all that was ... Ally is empty. Here we would have been more impressed with the character, but ... unfortunately, everything happened differently. Therefore, on this site such an assessment, it seems to me. But, in general, the game crumpled like so much ... that I do not perceive this work as a game, I perceive The Last Of Us more than a game - it is a whole story and life - the life of Ally and her adoptive father Joel. Game 7/10. This assessment will be fair. Expand

For me, graphic fidelity, animations, environments, atmosphere, game mechanics (stealth, crafting, progression) are top notch for me. ND deserves praise for that. I get the direction that ND was trying to tell...each story is like a 2 sided coin.

but what brings my rating down is the story delivery and pacing. I hate saying this because i want more of ND, but extending the story to play a character i have no investment of playing, didn't make it enjoyable for me. And being force to play her made me continue to ask myself, "why do i care?"

This wasn't a masterpiece in my opinion, even if i agree with the story delivery.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. tlou2 is clearly a visually stunning game with excellent world design. gameplay is what i expected from naughty dog (uncharted 3: undead nightmare). it feels more like an interactive movie than a video game, but tlou1 was already like this - just less lol

it's obvious the reviews are being bombed by people who can't see past their emotional attachment to joel's character and have determined that killing an important character equates to bad writing. in my opinion, joel's story had been completed in tlou1, and it felt natural to have his death play a role in the second game (this is an opinion i held months before this game came out. seriously, it's a trope - if you weren't expecting his death then you're just blatantly ignorant to, like, all literature ever. mentors and parental figures die). also, it's not like he's not in the video game. you get to interact with him plenty during the flashbacks.

p.s. we've already known for years that ellie is gay get over it, and if you're mad that abby is beefy it's just because she could beat you up and you're insecure

i'm disappointed with the ending, i feel that it was cut pretty short, but i guess that just means we all get to wait another few years to see what happens next since it's obviously not over. it also doesn't really feel like ellie learned anything. yea, she lets abby go but we're not really given a reason why she would after everything she went through and everyone that suffered because of her pointless revenge mission. i mean what's even the point of having the scene of tommy begging her to finish it if she's just gonna flake again? we get that little flash of joel playing guitar on the porch but if that's supposed to be her thinking that joel wouldn't want this or something, she's wrong joel totally would've wanted her to bash abby's skull in. he'd probably kill lev too

i genuinely enjoyed abby's story more than ellie's story. it was awesome to come out of this empathizing with abby and seeing what a survivor she is. plus after having to fight ellie so many times i've got a bit of a grudge over how dirty she fights. i mean seriously, who uses a knife on an emaciated woman you just cut off of what was essentially a crucifix in your epic fight to the death??

i think it was a really good, fresh change to have abby - who we are supposed to identify as the main villain, become a playable character. abby's reason for going after joel is just as valid as ellie's reason to go after her. we get to see that the villain has just as many loved ones and things to live for as our protagonist. we get to see our protagonist cast in a different light, showing her as a ruthless and constant threat - seriously, abby let ellie go and ellie slaughtered most of abby's friends in cold-blood.

i'm a big fan of the rat king, it was cool to go to a ground zero. shamblers are eh. was hoping for more developments in the infection or at least more information regarding the infected. combat with infected felt way easier than the last game, and the combat with other people was just the same boring gunfight/sneaking session over and over again.

and if there are any angry gamers reading this, prepare yourself for the next game because i'm pretty sure ellie's gonna die in that one. you can't just rate a video game 0 because you're mad at it

As a fan of the original TLOU and a one who picked it as the game of the decade, this one here is not for TLOU fan. The story is not convincing, character building is weak, narrative is lazy and beside the fact that there were many lies in the trailers to make a selling point and the (critics) reviews are pure brainwashing attempts!

There were good acting moments but they were lost among the mess of the cinematics which couldn't be connected in a master class way as expected. I appreciate the game side and the efforts that had been put in, but I can't respect the story elements which is a vital part of TLOU and this is unfortunately disappointing...

Bottom line that it's a must have from the technical perspective, but definitely not as TLOU fan.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The gameplay way enjoyable, I liked the stealth mechanics as it gives you more options to go for.
As for the story it was lacking in places, I felt joels death was a bit rushed and happened too early in the game. Playing the story as abby got boring as I felt it was way too long.
All the hate for the transphobia that people are hating the game for, 1) it was for once scene that character was deadnamed. 2) the people that were deadnaming the character are part of a **** cult. 3) it's a **** game!!!
The ending I felt was done wrong, The game should have finished up at the house, ellie going to california wasn't necessery. Leaving it how it did didn't sit right with me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall, it's not a bad game, but not a good one either.
In my opinion, the story is decent, not nearly as good as the first game's story, but still ok. The biggest flaw it has is the presentation and the order the events are shown in.
Abby is a decent character, and to be honest I found myself more invested in her story than in Ellie's mainly because she doesn't appear as just a character dominated by one single wish which is to take revenge, although I must admit that they forced you a bit too much to care for her. Her killing Joel would have been better if the players knew who she was and why she did it first, instead of her showing up out of nowhere and bam, Joel's now dead.
I'm really bothered by the fact that Joel was reduced to having two appearances before dying, which is a horrible decision. Why not show the flashbacks first and tell the story chronologically? Just a horrible decision overall.
Also, I didn't find myself caring about any of the new characters they introduced besides Abby, which was because they shoved the fact that you must care about her for the story to work, and all the deaths in this game carry nothing with them, not even a trace of significance for the plot or the characters.
Also, what's with all the SJW stuff in the game, like all the male characters that matter to the story besides Tommy and Lev dying until the end? They were just not necessary and they don't bring anything to the game besides pleasing hardcore feminists or whatever.
The character development for Ellie is just a mess. Besides the final farm scenes where she maybe kinda tries to walk away from what happened for what felt like 5 minutes, she's just a bland character obsessed with revenge.
The gameplay, although it doesn't bring many new stuff to the first game's gameplay, was more fun mainly because the fights were more satisfying, and you have more ways to play the game in a stealth fashion with craftable silencers and bows that are straightforward to aim with.
Scavenging is pretty fun, although a bit excessive at times, with the absurd amount of safes that you have to find codes for.
The graphics, environment and voice acting are just amazing, no other way to put it.

Overall, it's certainly not a bad game, but the story is just a mess in the way it's presented and gameplay can feel a bit exhausting at times.

    TL DR :
    Graphics - 10/10
    Gameplay - 8/10
    Story - 4/10

I hated how they treated Joel’s characteristics before he died, he was so out of character. The game should have ended with Abby being killed and Ellie feeling bad instead of Ellie letting Abby go even though she killed Joel and wanted to kill a pregnant woman (Dina) and Ellie feel bad when she killed a pregnant woman even though it was in self defence and she didn’t know. First the game is great and fun to play, I was happy to retrieve a lots of mechanism from the first game. The infiltration system works well and there is a serious improvement on AI (your companion can be spotted by the enemies, even though they get sometimes in your way).
The graphics are great but what is really impressive is the tangibility of the environment and the animations and facial expressions. I especially loved exploring all the areas and feeling that humidity of Seattle. The facial expressions in cut-scenes or in-game are really on point and I don’t expect to see a game having that level of details for a long time. When you handle enemies, watching their expression is uncanny. The global atmosphere and universe is really well done and I was hooked during the entire game. However, there are some pacing issues and after the credits you can’t remember every confrontations because there are plenty, maybe too much. At some point the game starts to feel quite repetitive even though there are always a jump scare, or a character being tortured, mutilated or shot at some point, to galvanize the pace of the journey.
The game is one of the most violent I have ever seen. Some scenes are quite shocking and will haunt you forever. However, gore and violence sometimes seems to be an easy shortcut to get rid of characters and tricky situations that would have actually been interesting to see more elaborated. The game is very dramatic and depressing and will leave you emotionally exhausted at the end.

I was however greatly disappointed by the characters development in general. The game never managed to make me empathize with the new characters introduced. At one point you can feel like the writers wants you to like one character in particular, so they put everything they can to make you like her, but it felt forced. I wanted to feel and understand what Naughty Dogs wanted me to feel and understand but I couldn’t, because they did such a good job of pissing the player in the first hours of the game that you can’t get attached no matter what you will share with this character. I was also disappointed by the lack of interactions between the protagonists during exploration which helps building the characters and getting attached to them. So there was a lots of awkward silences which could have been used to build the characters and make them more likable, human.
So how can I rate a game that is so good and so well polished, but from which I feel emotionally excluded.

The Last of us part II, is a good game. Yet I understand the division in the player base, because it depends on everyone sensibility and capability to get over his own resentment. I can’t deny it’s unprecedented. But was it really intentional though? I globally liked the experience and would recommend to play it, however, on a pure writing and character building aspect, that's a big disappointment.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game gets a lot right. The environments, the lighting, the sound...all these things are absolutely stunning.
Unfortunately the story and characters are the foundation of this franchise and they are just not strong enough to support it.
My big problem with this game is how inconsistent it is with the first game’s tone and themes. It doesn’t feel like the second half of The Last of Us story; it feels like a different game by a different studio that incorporates elements of the first game without really understanding what made the first game so special.
The first game clearly established that this is a dangerous world. People die frequently and even finding safety in a QZ doesn’t mean a quiet life. It is harsh and overbearing. People just try to get by. Joel’s journey across the country with Ellie makes sense because of the extraordinary hope she represents for a cure. The player believes the characters’ motivations.
The characters in Part II seem unconcerned by the dangers of the outside. Abby travels over 800 miles from Seattle to Jackson with several companions simply to get revenge on the man who killed her dad 5 years ago. Ellie then travels back to Seattle with Dina to get revenge on Abby and co. No character ever acknowledges that these journeys are incredibly dangerous and nobody tries to convince Ellie that it’s a bad idea. It stretches believability to breaking point and the game is only a few hours in at this point.
Believability is actually a consistent issue throughout this game. So many times I just didn’t buy that the characters would be doing whatever it is they’re doing. Abby, who we are told is the WLF’s “top Scar killer” spends two days travelling all over Seattle to save the lives of two Scar teenagers who saved her life the day before. We frequently see Abby be disparaging about the Scars and even when she is risking her life to travel with Lev for life-saving medical supplies, she keeps using the term Scar even though he keeps correcting her to the less offensive ‘Seraphite’. It’s contradictory - we are supposed to believe that Abby cares enough about these two kids that she’ll risk her life to save them, yet she is apparently indifferent enough that she will keep insulting Lev with the term ‘Scar’. This is just one example of many where the characters’ actions don’t make sense. It gets worse to the point that Abby is willing to start killing lots of WLF members just to save Lev as she is, apparently, - after spending a few hours with him - so attached to Lev that she will totally abandon the safety and community she has with the WLF to begin an uncertain life with him. Again, makes no sense, and the game doesn’t try to justify it.
The dialogue is also in serious need of attention. The first game used subtext very effectively and allowed the player a lot of room to infer what the characters were thinking. This approach, which gave us beautiful lines of dialogue in the first game, is abandoned in Part II. The conversations are usually bland, trite and forgettable. Characters say things that feel out of step with where they are and what they’re doing. The lines just feel too ‘on the nose’ and, when compared to the first game, stick out like a sore thumb.
There are other issues too but the ones I’ve listed give you an idea of what this game is all about.
It’s not a *bad* game. It doesn’t deserve 0, 1 or 2 out of 10 but it certainly doesn’t warrant 10 either. My score of 7 reflects the fact that the game is superb in some areas but fails in the most important area - story and characters.

Towards the end I felt more for Abby then Ellie but Last of us is about Joel and Ellie to me, so this just makes me confused.
They didn’t need to shock us as much as the first game did, just could have given us more of that beautiful and engaging story to pursue.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished this. It did not live up to the first game but for me its not as far off as a lot of people are saying.
The story tries hard to get you to sympathies with both protagonists but ends up just making you not really feeling anything for either of them. By the end you're just pushing the button because the game wont let you progress until you do, specifically the final showdown.
Story aside the gameplay is pretty good. I quite enjoyed the many different ways to approach the fights. You can sneak through and stealth kill everyone or you can run through guns blazing (at least until you run out of ammo).
One issue I did have was with searching for crafting items. Becomes very repetitive to open draws and cupboards to find enough supplies to make the items you need. At the same time this makes the game feel more realistic in the post-apocalyptic world so I can't complain too much.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part 2 is just as much Abby’s story as it is Ellie’s and that would be perfectly fine if I liked the character. So the game is for the most part a revenge story, during the very first chapter of the game Joel is literally beaten to death by Abby a former firefly while Ellie is forced to watch, thus all the interactions between Joel and Ellie are done through flashbacks. As a fan of the original game this is incredibly disappointing. Okay so I already knew from the first game that the people Joel and Ellie were killing were just like them in the sense that they were just trying to survive and they too had loved ones they were trying to protect this isn’t new information to me, so I really dislike that now they’re deciding to show the Firefly’s side and portray Ellie and Joel as the villains after they got me to care so much about them in the original. As for all the new characters that are introduced I just don’t care about any of them especially Abby so being forced to play as her for half of the game just isn’t fun. I don’t even like Abby’s back story I mean I know it would have been really predictable if it was somebody close to Marlene that sought revenge on Joel but the daughter of a random NPC from the first game is the one that vows revenge on Joel, I mean I didn’t even so much as know the lead surgeons name and yet his daughter is the one that kills Joel and is now the main playable character in the game. If they wanted me to care about Abby at all then maybe they should have told her story in chronological order maybe then I would have developed sympathy for her up until the point that she kills Joel but to have her just outright kill Joel from the onset with no explanation what so ever made it very difficult to sympathize with her. It all finally comes to an end with a fist fight between Abby and Ellie where Ellie decides at the very last minute to not kill Abby and lets her go even though she was relentless in killing every other person responsible for Joel’s death Abby is the only one she decides not to kill, if you believe Ellie would find forgiveness for Abby in the very moments that she’s trying to drown her then fine but I’m on the fence. Honestly I don’t think any of the ideas in this game are bad I just think they were executed poorly and if I had to rate this game from 1 to 10 I’d give it a 7. Almost everything about this game is amazing the gameplay, the graphics, the music the only real shortcoming is the story which is kind of ironic considering the story is what elevated the first game to be a masterpiece, out of all the things I imagined could go wrong with this sequel the story was the last place I thought Naughty Dog would drop the ball but there it is. There is unnecessary hate surrounding this game but I feel there is also too much praise for a game that has clear flaws. The Last of Us Part 2 suffers with a lack of focus and introduces too many characters with little time with each to actually learn or care about. The first game showed that it took a full game to invest in two characters, and this one tries to develop character investment within the main story with at least nine characters and fails to establish that with the exception of maybe one character. Now of course, this is just my opinion and credit where credit is due, the performances, motion capture, animation and visually fidelity of this game are incredible and deserve praise. But for me the environmental and creature sound is the star of this game. The sound engineers deserve the highest praise for elevating the horror and making the locations of the game feel alive. As a conclusion I do think it is a game worth experiencing but I would recommend lowering expectations if you are a fan of the first game. I hope Naughty Dog don’t disregard all criticism for the game as mindless hate as I believe there is one criticism from many reviews that I have to agree with and that is; the game is too long. Quality over quantity is what Naughty Dog has always delivered, until now. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of us Part 2 is a game that while fun, also gets rid of the amazing story the first game had. Sometimes the characters would do things they would never do in the first game, or they did things against themselves in earlier parts of the game. For example, in the first game Joel never trusts strangers and never tells anyone his name. In The Last of us Part 2, he tells Abby and her friends his name and where they live. Also, in the first half of the game, Tommy is hesitant to get revenge on Abby, but in the second half of the game, he pressures Ellie into getting revenge. The game also try’s to get you to sympathize with Abby, which I found annoying. The only reason I didn’t want her to die was because she had a kid. Some scenes felt out of place, such as the cutscene of Abby and Owen. In the end, Ellie spares Abby because she was also able to forgive Joel for taking her out of the hospital. As she returns home, Dina and JJ are gone, and she leaves Joel’s guitar behind. I have heard people say that her doing this was because she had to leave her relationship with Joel behind. I can understand that, but what I don’t understand is why Ellie killed many people, possibly hundreds and then when she found Abby she let her go. This game is fun, and while I’d recommend it, it’s not as good as what came before. Expand

If you're looking for a realistic looking game, you've picked the right one. The facial expressions are so well represented that even when the game is muted, you can know what the characters feel.

Gameplay : 9/10, the gameplay feels smooth. Very little glitches, the animations for the stealth kills and the crouch walk / prone are perfect. However, the shooting in these games don't feel right. I feel like these characters have never used a gun before. I do love using the bow and the crossbow.

Story : 7/10. I gave the story a 7/10 not because it is bad, but more because there are a few things that didn't satisfy me. Here are the few things I disliked:

    1. Not having a choice at the end of the game. Not being able to choose to continue the cycle of revenge (Lev going after Ellie after killing Abby) or stop it ( The current story ending ).

    2. The part of the story when we play Abby. Just before we play Abby, we are left with a cliffhanger. I felt the need to rush the part of Abby just to see what happens next instead of trying to understand this new character. Maybe if we had her parts at the same time like: Day 1, Ellie's story, then Day 1, Abby's story, then Ellie day 2, Abby day 2, and so on.

    3. Not enough Joel and Ellie. The first game was so magical with the adventure we had with Joel and Ellie. I would of loved more flashbacks as I find myself smiling ever time I see these two together.

The reason the final score is 7 while there are 2 scores that are 10 / 10 is because in these types of games, the story is what's the most important.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think the og The Last of Us is a good game, but nothing spectacular. So this is a unbias review of this one. The Gameplay is still very basic despite a generation gap between the two games. Jump and dogging is interesting at the moment, but then you will remember games that already had those things and did it so much better. Is very clear that this game is 100% focused on its story.

Story-wise The Last of Us Part Two is a rollercoaster of quality in both of it's "campaigns" Scenes like Joel's death and Abby finding Owen and Mel's corpses are powerful. On the other hand, the Scars are uninteresting and taking 24 hours to tell three days while the original had 16 hours to tell a year put the story down. This seven is entirely subjective because (outside of Joel's death, Abby's character and the Ending) every flaw the internet pointed out that didn't come from sexists and/or homophobics bothered me in my time with it. But I am willing to give those problems a pass because, to me, the highs of this game are far higher than any other Naughty dog game.

In essence, it's contradictory itself the story is always telling you revenge is bad but never showing the charter them selfs acknowledging this Abby loss every one but never once stops to ask Ellie why and same goes for Ellie.a a lot of people are upset not because this game is bad but because we expect it to be better after watching the ending to this game it was so unsatisfying and underwhelming that all I really wanted to do now is move on but I couldn't do so without understanding hopeful other people after watching this video will be able to see what this game was trying to say but didn't and will move on. While the game has some compelling moments and is beautifully rendered I felt the developers failed to find a good balance between storytelling and gameplay. Its seemed to fall into the horror film trope of people constantly making bad decisions. There were parts where I was questioning why my character was doing what they were doing, why I am here endlessly killing. I loved the first half however, the the second half had me much less interested. Then again the final couple of levels just had me wondering why the hell I was there. The story failed to convince and fully engage me, and the ending just left me feeling empty.

It always looks amazing but even then the very clear 'gaming' rules and an environment where your interaction is controlled and mostly linear it also felt quite old-fashioned at times. There is a ten foot wall in front of me but I can't climb it because it has leaves on it, instead I have to go do several things to enable me to traverse it.

And it was very much an extension of the first game, if you haven't played the first I couldn't see how you would understand or relate to this game unlike say Uncharted 2 or any of the sequels from that franchise.

Not disappointed though, there are some incredible moments there just that they aren't joined together by convincing storytelling. I may go for an NG+ on the hardest level, I may content myself by replaying some of the better encounters. The combat is satisfyingly brutal although towards the end of the game did start to feel samey. Also the pacing was a little slow at times.

And lastly the dogs. Leave them out any future games please. I have six of them and I don't want to have to kill them in a game. Big negative for me.

It does make sense to have Joel die, and playing as Abby allows people to somewhat sympathize with her more, but I think that if they wanted us to care about Abby more we should have played her before Ellie, as well as the fact that that one line of dialogue where she is about to kill Dina saying, “Good”, was probably the worst planned parts in the whole game as it made people just despise Abby. Great and ambitious game that dared to tell a story from both sides of the coin. This is a direct continuation of the previous game, we play as Ellie and Abby (Not at the same time).

Both characters have their own side of the same story, but the story is linear so there are no choices that will affect the outcome of the overall narrative.

Spectacular graphics, bigger levels to navigate through and explore and overall improved controls over the previous game, and the stealth is very good (But could be improved), also the sound design; ambiance, guns, monsters and enemies are over the top, alongside with very polished animations.

Problems i had with the game:
    - Stealth while mostly good it is impossible to do a pacifist run because some levels are designed in a way that two guards dont move from the same position blocking the only way to the exit. Also non-lethal weapons are not existent (This is a problem for me since i like to not kill people in games if i have the opportunity)

    - Also in some levels even though you got pass all the enemies around they will get alerted because the only exit is blocked by a QTE.

    - The story structure; While at the climax of Ellie's story, there is an abrupt rewind where you play as the secondary protagonist to see her side of the story.

    - No skins / funny unlock-ables: Previous game gave you a few skins to have fun while replaying the campaign, almost all games that came from this company (Naughty Dog) have this feature (Eg: Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3, Uncharted 4, The last of us), you could unlock in-game stuff like Models, concept art but nothing you can use in the campaign.

At least you have new game+ with all your upgrades and weapons.

No chemistry: Previous game had you sympathize with all its cast (Bill, Tess, Ellie, Marlene), while this game introduces many more characters to the cast you don't feel the same level of attention put into them, at least on the first half of the story, second half introduces a character from a faction known as "Scars" and i liked their part of the overall narrative.

Definitely a game you should try at least once, but overall i did not like a few design choices, mostly stealth levels and sometimes i felt like the game dragged for too long, the story was interesting but overall it didnt captivated me as much as the previous entry.

Ok maybe they just got lucky and found him, but still too much to absorb I guess. I found this story to be really depressing and if you had lost a love one or whatever I recommend to wait for a while, because this game really dwells in depression and later PTSD and about dealing with loss and grief.

In general, I liked the game, there are several disadvantages. The main one is the length of the plot.

    This game gets a God's honest 7/10.
Pros: Beautiful, unique story with various protagonists, realistic killing and action AI
Cons: Gameplay disconnected from the story, not enough attention to character development, padded to the gills TLOU1 was a love letter to the South and Americana in many ways. It lingers on the foliage of the vistas, you fight zombies through abandoned suburban

TLOU1 was a love letter to the South and Americana in many ways. It lingers on the foliage of the vistas, you fight zombies through abandoned suburban towns, the final fight in a snowy mountain town was unforgettable. TLOU2 suffers in many ways through a reliance on sewers and abandoned buildings and basements. In the first game Tess sacrifices herself to help ellie and joel after she's bitten. When she begs them to run you can see the fear and anger in her. In this game there is no one compelling in that manner. Abby becomes your favorite character because they make Ellie's campaign so tedious you can't help but like her.

As many others have said, Ellie is reduced to a workshopped set of keywords: angry, fatigued, sardonic, unempathetic, insecure. I think less of an issue than uses not liking this game is why do the critics love it so much? It believes in its own greatness with a burning passion, and critics lap this up. It believes "bad guys can be good too" is a mindblowing message. If you look at games such as God of War, the Witcher, or Persona 5, you see games where the story is incredibly complex and rich. If you play a game such as Dark Souls or Bloodborne you see games where the story isn't even clearly explained and yet its utterly haunting. TLOU2 doesn't come close to this complexity of storytelling, yet critics have slavered over themselves for it and to defend it to all. This game is just ok - not bad, and not great, but a perfectly fine game with some issues.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
