A genuine good game, great gameplay.
Amazing graphics, completed it in 2 days (25 hours) from beginning to end.
The story can be a punch to the gut in moments (not always in a good way) but I still enjoyed the hell out of it, and will probably replay it multiple times.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is not as terrible as people make it seem.
For me it would be around 7.5 or so. It did some things right but also some things terrible.

First some cons then pros and lastly some side things.

    Cons:
There are some poor story part of the game.
I personally dislike that I had to play as the character Abby and therefor rushed through that part.
A bit too much focus on Abbys life, may be so people would sympatise with her or what ever. But really there has been no reason for all her flashbacks, She was an unlikeable character, bland character and pretty much just a waste of time to focus on her story.
    Few glitches and bugs.
Bit too much "smash square" stuff like that.

    Pros:
Visually Naughty Dog did a great work with the game.
The gameplay may not be that whole advanced but pretty straight forward.
There are good parts were you can explore a lot of areas, building and shops which is really good.
Variety of weaponry is good, maybe there could have been a bit more upgrades into some of the weapons.
The small details in both animations, world design and so on are really good. Some of them are subtle but they make it more immersive.

    Both good and bad:
Some of the development with Ellie is done in a good way, other is not. The whole revenge thing is a feeling that most would be able to get. Also there are some old sayings "an eye for an eye makes the world blind" this is displayed well in the story were Ellie makes some poor decisions because she is blinded by the revenge.
The story wasn't 100% terrible but not that great either.

The Last of Us 2 could have been some kind of bigger expansion instead of a whole new game. There was a bit too much filler content.

Pros - Graphics, improved combat system, voice over acting, sounds, & difficulty+ replay (keep all gear & perks) overall gameplay is good especially through Ellie's 4 days in Seattle & Abby's hotel decent and lower hospital boss fight was awesome!

Cons - Length of game (should have cut out Abby's gameplay sections with just cut scene storylines instead.)
Story (Joel is removed from the game to soon. Ellie loses WAY to much for a young main character. Its hard to like Abby after the first stage of the game.) Overall though I did still enjoy the game as a whole, I just wished Ellie didn't lose as much as she did. Hope to see if things get better for her....

The voice acting and the music ( when Joel and Ellie play the guitar ), is just beutiful i love it, it
    warms my heart! 10 / 10

The animations and facial animations are just perfect, im glad that i waited 7 years to see that "next gen". 9.5 / 10

The combat is meh ok its not bad but its not great. I would rate the combat a 5 / 10.

I will not even talk about the story because its just depressing...
I will give it a 4 out of 10 just because they made it and tried to make it good. F

Don't even get me started on the environment! Its so beutiful and good made! ( Its really like a
    movie ) 10 / 10

Overall the game is far from bad but even more far from "The Last of Us 2" that we expected.
My honest score out of all those things is a solid 7 out of 10. ( 6.5 / 10 )

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last Of Us 2 is, in my opinion, getting unfair amounts of hate for the story. Some people are really stubborn about hating Abby, but they're missing the point of the game. I'd give the game an 8 out of 10, but they pulled a bait and switch with Jesse and Joel in the trailer. Otherwise, I think this is a great successor to the first game. The game represents LGBT characters in a way that doesn't demonise or stereotype them. It isn't forced down your throat either. Trans people exist. Gay people exist. The game shows that quite well. People who are, understandably, upset about the death of Joel need to understand one thing: Joel was a villain. That doesn't mean he isn't likeable, but he is essentially a serial killer. He massacred an entire building's worth of innocent people to save one person's life, all so he could selfishly have the daughter he lost. That makes him human. Just like how Abby murdered Joel in revenge. That makes them human. Naughty Dog made some interesting choices with the story. I believe that the Abby playthrough should have come first and then have her murder Joel, rather than have her kill Joel, have Ellie go after her in revenge, and have them kill Jesse too. The story is realistic. If I was in Abby's position I 100% would do the exact same thing. A lot of people would. Abby is a likeable character, it's just a shame ND decided to give them such an awful first impression. Graphics: 10/10
    Gameplay: 8/10
    Story: 6.5/10
    Overall: 7/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My actual rating would be a 7.5, but I’ll round down due to my overwhelming sense of disappointment in this game. Mechanically this game is flawless. The graphics are beautiful and one of the best I’ve seen and played. I commend Naughty Dog for improving a combat/stealth system that felt perfect already. I also believe the level design and voice acting are big strengths as well. However, while these things were great in the The Last of Us, the narrative and writing is what makes that game one of the greatest of all time. The Last of Us Part 2 falls very short in those regards. There are far too many coincidences in the story; Abby stumbling upon Joel and Tommy, Ellie losing her map out of her closed backpack for Abby to find, someone magically coming from California who saw Abby. These are a few instances of the lazy writing that is prevalent in this game, something I never would’ve guessed I’d be saying about a Last of Us game. Character motivations aren’t clear, and new characters are so poorly written and forced upon the gamer. They give us no reason to care about Jesse, Dina, Abby, and/or any of Abby’s friends. This game also lacks the moral ambiguity that it’s esteemed predecessor had. This game paints everything as good or bad, and tries to teach a lesson we already knew and was done much better in other media, that murder is wrong and revenge leads to more violence. However the biggest sin in this game for me is the Abby section. In this 25 hour game, you play close to half of it as Abby. Including a near 11 hour stretch in the middle of the game while being left on a cliffhanger. I don’t understand why Naughty Dog thought we would go for that. Not one person wanted to play as anyone other than Ellie or Joel before this game was released, and they damn sure didn’t want to play as Abby after we see what she does to Joel. Just an idea, if you want people to care about a character, don’t have her brutally murder one of the most beloved video game characters of all time in the first 3 hours of the game. That was a terrible decision, and is pretty indefensible. Overall this is an amazing game mechanically, but The Last of Us Part 2 needs more than that to stand up the the first installment. What made the first game have such lasting impact is exactly what is missing from the second game. I am seriously disappointed with this game, and it has dashed my excitement for future games in this franchise. Hopefully they can right the ship in the future, but I don’t have much hope for that. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There's a lot to say about this game… From the graphics to the environment, characters, actors, gameplay and of course the "controversial" story.
I'll start with the graphics: This game is absolutely one of the best looking games generally speaking, be it on the PS4 or PS4 Pro, the game LOOKS GOOD and there's no denying it. Even on a vanilla PS4 or a PS4 slim, the game runs smoothly and beautifully.
The environment is alive, much more than the first game due to the fact that the levels are almost completely open and traversal friendly thanks to the game's new improved gameplay mechanics like jumping, proning and getting between small cracks. There are letters and notes scattered around the levels with deep and sometimes extremely depressing world building content in them that are worth reading. The hunt for materials and “bolts” (even on the Normal difficulty dubbed “Moderate”), is fun and there’s much to discover.
The characters are problematic to say the least.
Ellie is cold (although understandable) and brooding and just unlikable unlike in the first game. The only times when she feels like "Ellie" is when the flashbacks happen and those are the best of her. It is of course important to note that she is more mature and of course more vengeful than ever but it doesn't excuse the fact that I just care about her much less than I did in the first game.
The romance and relationship between Dina and Ellie, while still cute left me with a bad taste in my mouth, and I felt like there was more to be explored between them and yet nothing came to fruition. They're relationship was subpar at best and incredibly boring and tedious at worst. Their interactions with one another felt stale almost if the only reason for their relationship is to be some sort of a "romantic" relief.
Abby is a whole other story. On one hand I can 100% appreciate and respect the fact the Neil Druckmann decided to let us see the other side of the coin, not only the evil woman who killed Joel, but a person trying to move on (so to speak), from her past that’s haunting her (shown in PTSD flashbacks and nightmares) and her ability to love and care for other but her story is still another revenge story for a very revenge driven game. On the other, I just don't care about her. Not because she killed Joel, but because I just don't. She's boring, evil, wretched and nothing good comes out of her. Although you have to love the fact she tries with Lev to become better and improve, I just don't understand why I have to play close to 10 hours as her. Again, I respect it, but I don't like it.
While Joel isn’t as presence (for obvious reasons), he still is the focal point for Ellie’s revenge plot on Abby. He’s a side character but for what it’s worth, he’s the one with the most amount of depth.
Now the story.... It's not THAT bad.
I feel that a lot of negative reviews given to the game were given by people who either hadn't finished the game, hadn't played it or just wanted to ride the wave of hate. The story is not THAT bad!
    Was is falsely advertised? Maybe.
Was it long and depressing? Absolutely.
    Was the ending satisfying? 50/50
While I want to talk about the story more I really feel like the story should be experienced individually. It's a long journey but I personally believe that it's one worth taking.

The gameplay is superb. Nothing to say more. While Druckmann said that "the game isn't supposed to be fun" it's one of the funner games I've played in a while. The progression system, weapons, stealth and the difference in gameplay between Abby and Ellie, everything is well made in the best way possible. The gameplay is a true sight to behold (and play!).

And lastly, the actors. Every single one of the main characters (Love them or hate them), are played in the best way possible. Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey are the best choices that Naughty Dog could have made for these roles. They were incredible and worth experiencing the game just for the way they portray their characters.

Final note: Take every review with a grain of salt. Experience the game for yourself. You'd be surprised.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So i completed the story at 5 am today and i have to say i'm overall disappointed with this game, HERE ME OUT.

So the pro's to this game are the attention to detail, from the graphic way of killing people to the pure genius of the sound design IE hearing people gargle on blood as they die or their friends calling out in anger/grief for them or just the sheer atmospheric music. The graphics are amazing and seeing someone's brains splatted on a wall after a head shot is an impressive feat of graphics.

    HOWEVER
Based on how violent and brutal the way you can kill people is, that can also be a drawback. It's traumatising the first time you kill one of the dogs let alone if like me you accidentally pressed the wrong button and bashed ones head in with the big hammer.

    NOW THE CONS.

The story, i mean like really, what did they think was going to happen when they decided to make this the story plot. They kill off Joel, the character that we adored from the first game and the dynamic he and Ellie had in the first game was just obliterated with a gold club (He deserved better)
The way Abby is like Guess when asked who she is like Joel would have any idea who she is. TO THE FACT THAT THEY MAKE YOU PLAY AS ABBY FOR AT LEAST 10 HOURS IN PART 2 OF THE GAME. Like they give you a character to hate like really hate and then they go, here play as this character to try and make you understand her reasons and sympathise with her. which is impossible to do, like at all. Then we get to the ending, Abby lets Ellie go in a way to make you feel like shes changed and is worthy of any forgiveness you may of given her while playing her character (still made no difference to me) but then you get to the very end and it Ellie just beats her to a pulp, looses her guitar playing fingers in that fight too and then lets her go after a flash memory of Joel as if the game is trying to say, Joel wouldn't of just killed her straight away (we know from the first game he wouldn't of hesitated). That was very lack lustre for me and I understand the games reasoning of like its a revenge story that turns into Ellie's grow story at the end but like it just did not win my heart over ending the game that way. Like Ellie through away her relationship with Dina and her kid to go "finish it" to then just not do what she was going to do. what was the whole point of showing the house section of the game knowing Ellie just gonna mess it up in the end for no reason.

Overall, The visuals and the sound are incredible, the extra game mechanics like crawling, the extra crafting options, swimming, the puzzle type ways to get through a building are all amazing and that is why this game gets a 7 from me.

It does not get any higher than that due to the disaster of the story-line.

Also, just to clarify should any media want to take my slightly negative review and say its due to the progressive characters in this game. I fully support people in general no matter race, gender, sexual preference. As long as you are not hurting anyone else, I care not for what you look like, what you identify as or who you date.

Well, I don't think the game was bad. I was having fun playing it. I even didn't mind Joel's death. But the ending and composition of the plot, like playing Abby for 10 hours instead of making 3-5 flashbacks, each 20 minutes long, have ruined the game for me.

The design of the game tries so hard to make you feel certain things or force you to see different points of view ultimately fails which is what turns most gamers away. The chemistry and bond between certain characters feels flat, awkward and unnatural again. Despite the things that went wrong in terms of the narrative, there's a lot of things the game does right that would wouldn't expect from other than Naughty Dog; graphics are stunning, many of my friends who are hardcore pc gamers say that this is one of the most beautiful looking games they've seen. AI is massively improved from the first. Level design is amazing. Sound effects and music is perfect. Combat has evolved massively from the first although can feel repetitive at times. While still a linear experience, areas are much broader and there's so much to see and explore that it can feel overwhelming at times. Like I said the game does a lot of things right as Naughty Dog typically are good at making games, however the narrative and pacing of the game really let it down particular with its anticlimax ending where it could of easily made up for past mistakes. It would be unfair to the devs who worked hard on this for so long and as I said putting the story aside this game is amazing but unfortunately falls short of that so therefore a 7/10 (average) is a perfectly fair score. It has some good aspects and some bad ones. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is good for the most part, and there are really nice parts of the story. The main flaw is making the user play as Abby for ten+ hours. She never grows as a character, never shows any remorse for her actions. Joel was an antihero who did bad things, but still had a heart. Abby is just a straight up villain and psychopath. That said, I do think it's worth playing and has some really cool moments, but all in all is not a masterpiece. Expand

IMO, the game has taken a step back in a few areas in terms of polish, melee combat, and stealth.

I've encountered a few bugs throughout my time playing which while not egregious I did not experience in TLOU 1. This mostly takes place as AI pathing issues and clipping through a wall or floor which requires a restart. Nothing gamebreaking but just kinda annoying in general.

In regards to the melee combat, I feel like the flow of it has suffered in order to make way for the dodge mechanic. I can no longer rush up and surprise them with a melee hit to stun them and either take them out or throw them into a grab. Most of the time doing so involves either getting riddled with bullets immediately or treating it as a normal combat initiation.

Stealth wise, I feel like the things they've tried to spice up the stealth mechanics such as dogs that can catch your scent and chase you or being able to hide in grass to be more difficult to detect, ultimately ends up muddying the stealth play and I wish it was more like the stealth of TLOU 1.

Regarding the enemy AI, I feel like compared to TLOU 1, they are much more likely to instantly shoot you when you pop out of cover to take a shot at them or shoot multiple shots at you in the time it takes to shoot one shot at them but that might just be me so I'm not holding that against it.

Visually, the game is great but some parts are a little too heavy on the film grain where it just seems a bit over-bearing for certain parts of the presentation.

Overall, I think it's a good game. Not terrible, not amazing, but somewhere in the middle.

As much as the story isn't the greatest in my opinion, the graphics, scenery and combat is amazing. I'll be giving this game a rating of 7/10 because of the three things I think that are great about the game and not the story. I seriously can't rap my head round the fact that Joel died a brutal death and how quickly he died. He deserved a way better death and later in the game. Let's also not forget about the ending. Ellie tracks down Abby to go KILL HER and decides to let her live? Like wtf. The whole point of the game was Ellie seeking revenge for the death of Joel and she chooses to let her live? The story really doesn't make sense. She should've just stayed with Dina if she was going to let her live then. People have their opinions about the game and this is mine. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game left me completely speechless in the end. It literally will not leave my mind. Throughout this game I was constantly feeling anxious and on edge. I had no idea what was gonna come next, especially after what happened within the first couple hours. I think I feel heartbroken from Joel’s death and the way it was executed. I can see why only Joel’s character and his death would fuel such a revenge story for Ellie because we haven’t touched on any other characters in such a complex view. The actions of Joel at the end of the first game would of been done by any parent in that given situation because you’d do anything to protect your child in any situation. Ellie never had that parent figure properly fleshed out and Joel was that figure for her. The fact that Abby tortures Joel to death does not balance out the fact that he literally only shot her dad who was the surgeon doing Ellie’s op as he was in the way. She literally comes in with no flash backs or build of any story and just comes in to wipe the best character from the series who most people love. To then only make us play as her for god knows how long to try and justify her motive and explain her story but the chance for that died after what she did to Joel because he’s a character many people are emotionally attracted too. Without Joel, there isn’t a last of us game. I guess if stuff was rearranged in the game and they told a bit about Abby beforehand then maybe she wouldn’t get so much hate as a character. Tbh like many others I despised her from that moment with Joel. I knew straight away that this was a revenge story. I couldn’t wait to pick off the group involved one by one. Could you imagine if Ellie was in Joel’s place? Joel would literally massacre the whole WLF. He pretty much wiped out the fireflies. The “if I ever were to lose you” song between Joel and Ellie imo tells me if one lost the other due to somebodies actions they would lose themselves into a pit of such darkness and depression that the only light shown is through exacting revenge on those responsible. At the end of the game, to not be given the choice to kill Abby or let her live is so frustrating and takes away the point of the revenge story. Even just having that choice would put satisfaction there. But I know revenge is never the best option. But in a cold and depressing apocalyptic world, revenge fits perfectly here. The world known before the virus is gone. People are not the same anymore. There are plenty of others who can explain or pick a part this story better than I have. In terms of gameplay and graphics, it’s absolutely amazing and mesmerising for how far technology has come. The world is vibrant in its own dark and twisted way, yet the beauty of Mother Nature taking over again is satisfying to look at. I think these aspects of the game have been shattered by the story aspect which is a huge shame. I’m sitting here wanting to like this game for everything it provides but I can’t. To think those who’ve waited 6/7 years for a sequel, to only be let down by the main protagonist of the first game who had such an amazing character built throughout, be taken away by a character nobody sympathised with or gave any care too. I’m not gonna go give it a terrible score because of the story side, as the game is built with so many amazing things. I’m writing this raw and as I go since the game really has hit me emotionally. Which in itself shows the game can be done in such a better way. I know from the many reviews I’ve seen and looking through reddit, that people want to forget this game exists or for it to be redone. I guess I sit on the side of wanting it redone, but nothing is ever perfect in life and we don't always get the things we want. I can see what naughty dog were trying to do but the way they executed it was wrong. A few things from the first game seem to be thrown out the window. Like Joel not trusting anybody and being cautious yet here his Guard is basically down and doesn’t acknowledge the danger of Abby or the situation he’s in. Yes time in a community can change how you view people but not when it comes to strangers who appear just outside the settlement you live in randomly. I guess to finish off I’ll just say that the experience was a rollercoaster in ways but not in the way it could’ve been. Graphically the game is exceptional and the gameplay with its tweaks is great. But for me the story overshadows the positives and I’m left feeling bittersweet and empty in some ways. Ellie said in the first game she doesn’t wanna be alone, yet in the end, that’s exactly what she is. For her character and the journey laid out infront of her, it really didn’t justify her or meet the expectations this revenge story was meant to be. It should be ruthless and seen till the end. We’ve done all the killing to get to this end point, but somehow not ending what was started messes the whole point of this story. Expand

I think this is a good game, with its pros and cons, the story is good, the physics are great, the environments are amazing, and the music is amazing.
But not everything is rosy, the gameplay is exactly the same as the first one, they just recycled it, the script is a bit poor, sometimes an example in flashbacks that are only to make us nostalgic. but each person knows what they are

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

I could see this working with different characters in the same universe as the character arc's just feel a bit aggressive. Mechanics didn't make sense as in world reason from previous game was retcon/detracted. They tried to expand, but it didn't work as well as intended. Not to mention logic issues where enemies would be hidden out of sight, but when looking at the area they must have been at shows no foot prints or other details the previous game was pain staking with. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here we are ! I just finished the game. At the time I would definitely put a 3 but after thinking about it I put a 7. Graphically, nothing to say Naughty Dog is still doing his bit and the level design is there! The soundtracks stick enormously to the story telling and they put us extremely well in the atmosphere of the game. However, that is not enough to make a good game. We play a The Last Of Us for its scenario and the emotions that the game will make us feel through its characters, the attachment that we have and will have for them and twists to come. Like many players, I was shocked and terribly annoyed by the death of Joel. This brutal death which seems so .. "null" for the emblematic character of the license. This death was caused to shock the player, to put him in the same state as Ellie. Neil Druckman was wanted to create a feeling of revenge, disgust, envy of murders and especially the wish that Abby dies at the hands of Ellie. I myself wanted to uninstall the game after this scene; The disappearance of this emblematic duo to which we were all attached disappeared after an hour of play. We thus leave in the quest for revenge of Ellie followed by Dina his lover. The character of Ellie will change over time and this quest for revenge. As we go, we will realize that Ellie loses her human side and destroys everything in its path. So she kills Abby's friends to find her. We play Abby's character for almost a good half of the game. We learn more about its history and past. What's the point ? To try to justify the death of Joel, however we had understood his motivations and that could have been summed up much faster instead of making us play a character who all wished death. This part of the game is boring to me.

The game tries to make us empathetic towards Abby, however for my part it did not work especially on the spot ^^

After Ellie is beaten by Abby and she had to give up her revenge we now see her living a good life accompanied by Dina and "their" baby JJ. Having given up on this quest, Ellie is happy despite the fact that she is still haunted by the death of her adoptive father, Joel. That's when Tommy reappears to everyone's happiness and puts Ellie back on track. She cannot give up her revenge and she abandons her family and her farm to set off again in search of Abby. Great twist having amazed me enormously! Ellie then finds Abby almost dead and exhausted from the torture she suffered. It was then that a hand-to-hand fight broke out between the two women. Close to drowning Abby, Ellie finally gave up killing her. Personally when Ellie drowns Abby, her gaze broke my heart. Ellie had lost her humanity and only been overcome by her desire for revenge. I was pleasantly surprised that she didn't kill Abby. Neil Druckman wanted to restore the little humanity that remained in Ellie at this moment. Like us, Ellie understood then that all that led to nothing, killing the one who killed Joel will not bring him back to life, she will never be able to see him again. Unlike her, Abby had only killed the person directly responsible for the murder of her father. Ellie had killed Abby's friends even though they were not directly responsible.

When Ellie returns to her house, she discovers her empty house, without Dina. We understand then that she lost everything by wanting revenge. This end is heartbreaking, I for my part cry for long minutes. The final Flashback with Joel shows us that the day before her death, she told him that she could not forgive him but that she would try. Joel therefore died without knowing if she had forgiven him. It is horrible and heartbreaking. The moral that Neil wanted to transmit to us in this work is that revenge leads to nothing, responding to hatred with hatred will not solve the problems and will only make things worse. Definitely a wink compared to the current situation in the world.

To conclude, I think The Last Of Us Part 2 remains a beautiful work all the same. The scenario is far from high-flying but the story being told well and the emotions well felt it gives us a game that remains appreciable. Joel's death remains questionable in my opinion, and some scenes are too. But it is a dramatic story that we have there and that touched me personally. I don't know if there will be a sequel, but it's a possibility even if I'm not sure how it could bounce on it. In any case, the title of the game takes on its full meaning at the end. Ellie will remain the only survivor, and she will have lost everything as she said in 1 "All the people I love and who stays with me end up abandoning me or dying" The circle is complete.

It is a very different opus from 1 and I understand the community's dissatisfaction with the script. But you have to know how to open your mind and how to embark on the story that we are being offered in order to be able to fully enjoy the work that is on offer!

Thank you for reading. Its not very structured and i'm sorry for that ^^ Bye !

It is essentially two games in one with both sides collided a few times. I give it a 7 because its not without flaws. I came across several bugs, albeit minor ones (with one that I needed to reload to fix). The game runs a little long and could stand to be trimmed down a bit and it starts getting formulaic by having nearly every goal be some kind of landmark you're headed to. And finally the story does not conclude in a satisfying way. It doesn't make much sense and there's no time spent justifying it. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What can I say? Its a really good game. Aside from the mediocre story and the forced SJW propaganda, I think Neil Druckman and his team really deserve respect in creating this games environments and enemies. I'll give the story a 5 out of 10 purely for the fact that it is bland, in my opinion, and Joel's death was not given any proper context, and happened too early in the game. Ellie being a senseless killer was also an off-putting thing about the story. There is no humor or wit in this game like the first. Abby was not a bad character, despite the leaks and what she did to Joel. However, she should have gotten her own game instead of being forced into this one. My biggest gripe with the story is the forced SJW propaganda. It seems that the writers chose to tell us that Ellie is a lesbian every five minutes in the game. It got annoying after a point and I eventually lost interest in the story after about an hour or so. The new characters are bland, and I didn't like the character of Dina. She just seemed an odd choice for the game and the dialog between her and Ellie felt unnatural, forced and borderline uncomfortable sometimes. Also, most new and old characters are under utilized. However, The environment is a solid 10 out of 10. It is absolutely gorgeous, and Seattle has got to be one of the best looking environments in any video game up to this point. The enemy factions are also a solid 10 out of 10. The returning infected never ceased to make my toes curl and my heart race, and the two warring factions in the game, the WLF and the Seraphites are well implemented and deserving of the coolest enemies award, if ever there was such an award. The militaristic nature of the WLF combined with the silent, eerie way the Seraphites conduct their war makes for some epic, heart racing moments in the game. Whoever conceived the idea for the WLF and the Seraphites is really good at their job and deserves a promotion. In closing, I cannot fault the game for a few bland story moments and aspects. It's still a brilliant game if you like horror survival games, and I would recommend it to anyone interested. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The gameplay:
I quite enjoyed the gameplay, even if it wasn't anything new. Most parts of the game were fun to play. The different use of weapons was nice, but I found myself just using 2 different weapons and only use the others when I was out of ammo. The skill tree was okay. There was some useful stuff in there, but sometimes there was no correlation between the skills you had to unlock before you could unlock other skills.
I really did enjoy the AI in this game (except when you played as Abby and had to fight against Ellie). They were somewhat smart and I really liked it when I killed someone and another AI yelled the name of the one I killed. This makes them more than just some people that you had to kill.

    The visuals and sound:
I thought the game was a beautiful looking game with stunning visuals, but it does feel like it will be outdated in only a few years. That doesn't take from the fact that I really enjoyed looking around when I was playing.

The sounds in the game were pretty good. I enjoyed most of the voice acting and the sound of the world was pretty great.

    The story:
I understand why people are upset that Joel died at the beginning of the game. I would have loved to see more of him since he is a great character, but I understand why they killed him early in the game. Ellie's story was okay. It was nothing great, but I liked Dina and Jessie and I enjoyed their interactions with each other. I also enjoyed that the game explored Ellie's and Dina's sexuality. While some/a lot of people think that this is Naughty Dog being political and in your face, I don't think this is the case. The Last of Us was a very realistic portrayal of people and how they act and I think Part 2 does that too. People are all just different from each other and that is how you make a game more interesting.

However, when the game was halfway over and we started with Abby's part, I had some problems with beginning with it. You started completely fresh. All the upgrades you've had done with Ellie were gone and I found that frustrating. While I did think Abby her story was more interesting, it felt like it could be a whole new game, since you were starting over and there were only a few crossovers with Ellie her story.

I quite liked the ending. I thought they would go a different way, but I was okay with the path they took. I did not become angry about the fact that Abby was still alive, because for me the game let me empathize with both sides and I understood why Ellie let her go.

    Overall:
Overall I quite enjoyed playing the game. It did feel a bit long at some point and I felt like it could be 10 hours shorter without missing the essence of the game. I also think it would have been better if you played both stories simultaneously, instead of the first half is Ellie and the other half is Abby. I appreciate the inclusion of different kinds of people than the normal tough guy you play as in most games.

I understand that people are disappointed with Joel dying so early in the game, but I absolutely don't agree with all the hate this game gets. That being said, I also don't think the game is a 10/10. It has its flaws gameplay-wise and storywise, but overall it is a pretty enjoyable game.

Expand

But, the emotions i had after the game is finished, and after some plot details I feel embarrassed, lost. I’m not sure if that what you should get after you complete the triple A game story.

Half of the game i had no will to play, as i had no empathy to the circumstances. I just played wanting to finish the game as fast as i can.

My suggestion is to rent the game from stores/friends, and complete it. Of course if you do not catch the spoilers online.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is one of the most mixed feelings review I will ever write in my life and also the saddest.

I had great expectations for TLOU 2, we all had, and after playing it I felt like it was a good game but there was something off. After reading many reviews, opinions and facts about the game, my mindset changed.

First of all, failing to maintain character. Not in living hell Joel would trust a large group of strangers out of nowhere, standing in the middle of a room surrounded by said group and even going out to say his name. This is unacceptable, that's not Joel and if ND wanted Joel dead then they should have spent more time thinking on how they could create this death into the game, it's just a lack of creativity or maybe they're just lazy when it comes to killing on of the most beloved character of the entire gaming culture.

In second we need to talk about Abby, you can call me homophobic or whatever you want but her looks feel too forced, the character development feels forced and ND tried it's best efforts to make us like her. In the end she becomes the thing she swore to destroy, she becomes kinda like Joel considering her actions towards the end but obviously we won't like her because she killed the character we LOVED and this is a very important aspect. To clarify, I accept Joel's death but like this makes it hard for a person to even enjoy the game since every time we see Joel sadness takes over us even during that super cute scene in Ellie's birthday.

Next point, Ellie and Tommy. Ellie is an amazing character, love her from the bottom of my heart and after everything she went through it doesn't make sense her leaving Abby alive. ND makes the game in a way so that you see Ellie and Joel as the bad guys but when you weigh the character's actions Abby and her father aren't that better if not worse than Joel, I'll talk about this later. Now Tommy feels like he was under-used, low amount of screen time when in Joel's absence he could have been the one to save the game's story and his high moment was when he killed Manny, too bad we were playing as Abby for the last 5 hours though and too bad he didn't get to hit her too. Only Tommy stood true to his word when my expectation was to be Ellie the one who would carry the vengeance until the end. Just look at RDR2 revenge type of story, it's a much better one and if in the end Micah would have been forgiven people would be pissed just like people are pissed with TLOU 2.

Back to Abby's father, since in The Last of Us' universe the infection is fungi based a vaccine is the dumbest of ideas. A vaccine will only prevent people from getting infected and not save the infected ones, also they can still die if a bite injury is too severe. The first thing you would do with Ellie would be taking a bit of her blood and study her white cells to see what was different on her immune system that that was able to combat the infection. After that you could possibly develop a medicine to fight the fungus and help people before they turn into a runner. This seems a much better option than killing an unconscious 14 year old girl without her consent. This also means, Joel's decision in the end of the first game doesn't mean anything, in fact he might have saved the world by keeping Ellie alive.

We need to admit, Neil Druckmann messed it all up and failed to deliver the game the people who waited 7 years wanted so much. I have depression (according to professionals, I don't think so) and I looked at this game as my 2020 savior and well it just made my year worse because the game is quite literally a depressing deception.

    5/5 - Graphics, Detail, Mechanics & Gameplay
    2/5 - Story

Thank you for reading my review and I hope I convinced you why this is both the best and the worse game of the PS4.

EDIT: Forgot to add that it's kinda sad the only new character that was well developed (minimally) got killed by Abby too, this character being Jesse. Makes me wanna cry so hard.

First off, there were way too many times where the gameplay just felt like a chore, making me not really want to sit down and continue playing. The story didn't captivate me enough for me to want to continue playing for long periods as I have with other games. There were some weird themes in there and some things that just felt unnecessary. I definitely did not care to play as Abby, I wanted her dead from the beginning and hated playing as her. I did feel bad for her though, when we saw Owen and Mel dead from her point of view. But again, nothing that intense. Overall, decent game, but not even close to as good as the first one. Would definitely not sit through and play it a second time Expand

To put it better when my child grows up and understands storytelling and is older i will sit him or her down to play THE LAST OF US PART 1 but i dont see myself doing that with the second game.

It wants to be an RPG but it is too linear, it wants to be open world but, again, it's linear. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    + Sonidos
    + Música
    + World Building

    Contras
    - Historia (el final más que nada)
    - Relleno (cinemáticas y capítulos nada interesantes)
    - Narrativa

Historia absurda.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last Of Us 2 is a visually stunning and exciting game that could have been a straight 10/10 if not for the writers sacrificing a solid plot for the sake of a forced LGBT narrative. And I think this is quite poorly integrated and so detracts from the flow that was created in the first game. My annoyance at story elements in the game was such that I was inclined to want to score it 0, but while Joel is disappointingly killed early on, his and Ellie’s story is continued through flashbacks which are poignant. If they wanted to create an LGBT narrative it may have worked well in a subsequent title, but largely throwing the Joel and Ellie narrative in the bin in favour of new characters who we are set up to despise from the outset was a poor creative choice by Naughty Dog. It’s comparable to killing Daniel Larusso or Rocky off in the sequels to their classic movies and expecting us to enjoy watching the rest when it’s about characters that killed our heroes - it would make no sense and would kill all hope and desire for subsequent instalments.

In terms of scoring this, I gave 5/5 for the graphics, game mechanics, and level design. For the story I give it 2/5 since it’s like a heavily diluted version of that which I eagerly anticipated and expected. Still, the devs made an extraordinary amount of money from this game and so perhaps they don’t mind having thrown their credibility in the toilet. I will not be watching the upcoming series nor playing any more games from this company.

Oh well. The first game was great.

To start off, I have to agree it wasn't the wisest decision to execute the MOST iconic character in the first game known as our Joel, so early on into the game. Not giving enough context behind the situation and sympathy towards the killer Abby. It was very hard to relate to her and even play as her for half of the game. As a fan I had to almost Ignore what had happened to enjoy this game.To start off, I have to agree it wasn't the wisest decision to execute the MOST iconic character in the first game known as our Joel, so early on into the game. As a fan I had to almost Ignore what had happened to enjoy this game. Fortunetly it does get better later on after the event. Yes the story does fall short in some cases and is filled with plot holes, I do not agree with the direction of the game like everyone else, yet you cannot deny the attempt, vision and effort they tried putting into this game. It's mainly surrounding the hatred and vengeance, which drives to conclude nothing in the end because of all the loss both Ellie and Abby suffered through because of hate.

In conclusion, not all of it is terrible, many scenes are memorable. Feeling the emotional spark from the voice actors, the animations and voice acting to the small whispers and deep breaths. The BEAUTIFUL world and art direction is just fantastic especially on an OLED tv paired with the PS4 Pro. The relationship with Dina and Ellie is high class and finally the flashbacks with Joel and Ellie is what kept me playing this game.

The Last of Us Part 2 is actually a good game, but a terrible sequel. We have now an open world, amazing an addictive combat and an okay soundtrack by Gustavo Santaolalla that is saved by Mr Robot's composer Mac Quayle.

Everything great until that. Except for the story. Neil Druckmann is so obsessed with creating an story about revenge that in the path he forgets that he is treating with two of the most beloved characters of this decade. He decides to introduce a new character to the franchise and forces player to understand her and he even adds scenes that look to proof her 'humanity'.

By the way, if Druckmann wants to player to feel something for the character that killed Joel, he is in a bad way showing us an intense and kinda awkward sex scene. But Abby is forced character that even in the end doesn't pay for her actions.

But flashbacks (Ellie and Joel, of course) are the best and at the same time GREAT part of the game, and that's what The Last of Us was always about, a beautiful love story between two lost people in a destroyed world, people who lost every reason to live but they're forced to keep walking in the world, but they're not alone anymore once they find each other. That's The Last of Us and Neil Druckmann seems to understand that when he wrote flashbacks along with Halley Gross. But when we go to present story seems to go worse after some great flashbacks.

Shannon Woodward as Dina is great, I don't know if maybe it's because of her voice or because the way character is written, to be a kind, sweet and at the same time strong character. She is great.

If Neil Druckmann wouildn't decided to go with a hate, revenge and consequences story we might have another great game, however it's not the case. And we get to a terrible conclusion, where the whole journey of Ellie becomes pointless, stupid, awful. Wish I could talk a little bit more about this, but in the end if we remove the moment where she decides to let Abby go we might have a good ending where the character finally finished her journey. But of course, that's not happening.

Sadly we can't say it's a great game when story is just terrible, but if you're not a fan of The Last of Us you'll have a great game that will offer you a long and great experience. But if that's not the case you will just hate it.

Let's just ignore this game exists anyway.

Expand

The Last Of Us didn't need a second game, but fortunately it's not as bad as it could have been. It is a very unfriendly game narratively and makes a fair half of its players want to quit and watch the ending from Youtube, and I totally understand why. The pacing is very off which you could view as a massive mistake or conscious decision to make the player feel bad (which it does). But when looking back at the story as a whole, it starts to make sense and has so much great stuff in it most people can't see through their rage which is caused by some bold moves from the directors. The problem is that because of the pacing, player's interest drops too quickly. And from a game so reliant on a good story, this game really missed some points there. Good story but executed in a weirdly manner.
Gameplay is very good, although the enemy AI is quite dumb and makes killing them way too easy. The graphics can't probably get any better with ps4.

Then I decided to play it once more and I really enjoyed it tbh. This game has lots of good and bad things. It’s not even a bad game. People say Joel’s death was shock value but no it wasn’t it was just so the revenge could start war would break lose. But anyways I like this game and it’s not bad at all Expand

The only problem of the story is that its told in the wrong order, at least in my opinion.

The graphics of this game have been praised enough, and though they are fantastic, graphics alone will not carry the title. Thankfully, they do not have to. They work in tandem with aspects which I enjoyed from The Last of Us to make a game which is a worthy sequel. The controls and style of it echo that of its predecessor, and it carries on the tradition of attempting to ground the experience in some semblance of reality. The world is harsh and makes no promise of life to anyone. While this effort is appreciated, it can seem jarring at times. In private conversation, I have jested that the game is a "depression simulator," and while the joke may fall flat for some, it is no less poignant of a synopsis in my humble opinion. This is, by no means, a shortcoming. In fact, the most effective of stories, I find, are the ones that force me to deal with a range of emotions, which this game does effectively at times, and ineffectively at others.

Much of the positive emotions I have come to associate with the game, are derived from heartfelt moments between Ellie and Joel, of course. Their interactions are heartwarming, and the emotional beats of their story feel as personal as the two of them. There are elements of environmental storytelling which persist, and the game does not shy away from showing the depravity that takes hold in a post-apocalypse. Though there are moments which pull one away from the despair, they are tucked away behind flashbacks. The knowledge that this comfortable lull is a fleeting moment nags at the back of the player's mind. It will end, forcing them back to the discomfort of the main narrative.

While these flashbacks are some of my favorite moments in the game, I fear they are also misused at times. Some events seem out of place, as though they would have been more beneficial if utilized earlier on. The attempt at getting the player personally invested in the other playable character, Abby, and her compatriots, seems to fall quite short. The player grew to appreciate and empathize with both Joel and Ellie over the course of an entire game. The same cannot be achieved for an entire group, let alone one character, in a far shorter amount of time. In fact, I would argue that Abby should have been the initial playable character following the prologue. Starting with her recurring nightmare and inciting action for her quest for revenge, and subsequently viewing the end of the original game from a new perspective. It would have also allowed for the player to observe the same all-consuming force of vengeance taking its toll upon Abby, much like it would Ellie. The difference being, that Abby's vendetta stops with Joel. It is not allowed to bleed over to those immediately around him. There is the great potential for an incredible story here, but I fear that it may have become too enamored with the idea of saying something profound.

Whatever it attempts to say is irrelevant. At its core, this series has been one focused on its characters. It should not be a fable. It should not attempt to lecture the player about morality. Morality means nothing in this world. You have already been made party to dooming any hope for a cure. No, this game is not about what is right and wrong. It is about human relationships, and the depths to which people will delve to endure and survive.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I avoided the spoilers until I played the game. I don't know where most of the controversy came from on the trans character. personally it made sense in the context of the game. but playing as Abby and attempting to kill Ellie was what drop my score to a 7. I almost completely stopped playing because I feared that I would end up killing one of the most beloved video characters of this decade. but I fought on and finished it. in the end I liked the ending, I understood the emotion implications and why Ellie did what she did. but I couldn't help but root for Ellie to kill Abby, Naughty Dog did a terrible job trying to make us like her character. I hate Abby with a passion. I give the game credit as it is hard to make a game better than the first "Last of Us" but I think maybe they should of left this game alone. the first game inst tarnished for me but I could see how it could do so to others.

    TL;DR
    Pros:
    - Game play is amazing
    - Love Dina
    - Really strikes me emotionally ( yelled at TV a lot)
    - Visually amazing
    - Amazing music and audio design

    Cons:
    - Hate Abby with a passion
    - Story can be confusing
    - Joel got did dirty by ND

While it's a great game on its own I do hate a few choices they made. Graphics are incredible, and game play is much better than the first one. However what stops it from being a perfect game of me was how little we got to play as Ellie. I assume NaughtyDog wanted to show both sides of the story and how everyone is affected in different ways, but this did not feel like Ellie's story. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 1 was an emotional experience, and it captivated players all around the world for just how well it was actually written. this game is no different. First things first, this is NOT a perfect game. I can agree that this game could have been better, there are 2 major plot points in which I do not agree with. (if you played the game you most definitely know the 2) For starters, Ellie is an amazing protagonist, she is acted extremely well and her story is so dark, that you can't help but feel for her. I personally LOVE Ellie as a protagonist, but I can't help but think that the only reason I like her is because of the base the Last of Us 1 has set up. The flashbacks in which Ellie appears are the best parts of the game, but as I just said, the first game is the only reason in which I am so wrapped up in the story. To top it off, Ellie never gets her moment in this game, she never gets her resolve, no revenge, no shining moment. She simply just gets absolutely low balled by Neil Druckman, and I have no Idea why. Aside from Ellie never shining, I do admire Naughty Dog's attempt to make you feel for the main antagonist. It's bold, but I feel like it doesn't quite work. The flashbacks as Abby just didn't captivate me as much as Ellie's did, and in the end I still wanted Abby dead. Naughty Dog took a great leap in hoping the player would feel for Abby, but I am here to say that I think killing Abby, in the theater, where the protagonist and antagonist finally meet, would've been so much better. Imagine playing as Abby for 10+ hours, making it to the theater where Ellie is hiding, only to get shot by Ellie in the head. That would've been so much more powerful than letting Abby live because the character you just controlled for 10 hours and her story are all erased by a single bullet. It carries so much more weight than this "meta" narrative that Neil tries to push. Those are my only gripes with this game. The story could've been as powerful as the Last of Us 1, but it just falls flat.
Now if you are still reading, (thanks if you are), I'm going to sum up my review in a quick paragraph about the game-play. I love it. If you enjoy the Uncharted series and Last of Us game play, you will love this game's game play. There is tense moments of hide and seek action and split second crafting decision making that truly make it a tense experience. The infected are smarter and the AI is tough to defeat. (I played on Hard btw) The stealth is fun and there is burst of action scenes like in Uncharted that truly make both Ellie's and Abby's journey really adrenaline filled. Not only has the game-play improved, but cinematically and stylistically, killing a person in a video game has never been so gruesome. Stabbing people in the throat and watching them choke on their own blood, throwing molotovs at dogs and hearing them cry as their owner just watches them burn, hitting and infected in the head with a hammer and hearing their skull getting crushed. THIS GAME IS GRUESOME and I love it. Naughty Dog really outdid themselves with the combat and action scenes.
So overall, this is by no means a bad game, hence my 7 out of 10 rating, but it could have been an amazing game with just a few tweaks to the story. If you read my entire essay, thanks and I hope you enjoy this game too!!!

Досадно что naugthy dog прибегли к банальному о открытому обману (я про трейлер state of play) .

The graphics are immaculate. The gameplay is fine. There isn't anything beyond amazing here. It's good, but there isn't anything to rave over. The story is atrocious. There are a lot of plot holes and you can see where the writers had to write themselves into or out of a situation. Specific characters do things they wouldn't, but if they don't, there's no game. It's unfortunate.

This is a good game if you with about the gameplay and graphics, but the big problem of it is that, instead focus on making a good main plot, they choose use the whole history to pass a message.

Almost perfect game but Abby is despisable, one of the most hated characters in videogames, I think even more than Micah from Red Dead Redemption 2, forcing us to play with her... damn... not cool.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (Light spoilers) The gameplay, the characters, the graphics, and the visuals of the game were stellar. The first half had me on the edge of my seat story-wise as well, and I was so excited, and then we played 10 hours as Abby. Then, I saw all of the cheap ploys to try and make us like Abby and dislike Ellie. Have Ellie kill dogs and Abby pet them etc, but that doesn’t change the heart of each character. Just because a child calls Abby a good person doesn’t mean she is one. It shifts from a fantastic start to a bunch of cheap shots instead of quality writing. You can’t make an evil hearted villain and a sympathetic one all in one go like that. I saw what they were trying to do and can appreciate it, but it didn’t land properly. The game is better than average but doesn’t live up to it’s predecessor story-wise. It often reads like torture porn (I love angst fic and this exceeds the worst of what I’ve read in this field). I wish it was better, I really wanted it to be. The first half I was absolutely in love and then it just dipped, all the way to the less than stellar ending. I still enjoy the game. Some parts were so fantastic I’ll never forget them, and so I can’t drop the game in its entirety, but nonetheless I was a little disappointed. I do still suggest you play the game through on your own, but it’s not the masterpiece I was led to believe it was. 3/5 or 7/10 Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
