This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a fan review. It’s important to note, because I’m not a hardcore gamer. I’m a fan of The Last Of Us, which I believe set the standard for story telling in video games. The Last Of Us 2 dismantled that standard for better or worse.

Don't get me wrong, TLOU2 is a great game that makes incredibly progressive and interesting story decisions, but it’s an action game first and foremost. It's not a story-telling vehicle disguised as a videogame. That comes across in the level design. There is no way to play the game successfully without killing just about everything and everyone (including dogs – much to wife’s severe unhappiness). You can sneak past some areas, but you'll miss vital resources and almost always get killed a few times in the effort. The character development and story progression is basically designed around game-play with few exceptions, i.e. the flashback with Joel and Ellie at the Natural History Museum. Taking that into consideration, the game falls into the “great” category. It’s really fun, incredibly violent and awesomely challenging.

The problem with TLOU2 is the lack of respect the writers had for the source material coupled with their attempt to moralize and manipulate. I read a great deal of negative and positive reviews after I played through the entire game. To be frank, I’ve been processing the story for about a day. In my humble opinion (I’m never wrong), the negative reviews are as legit as the positive. Very few people actually care whether the central characters are gay/transgender – they are upset because Joel is tortured and murdered by a character that they are then expected to not only play but to eventually sympathize with. It’s not an easy transition and I found myself more than once placing Abby in the line of fire just to watch her head explode. However, it ultimately works. I like Abby and, after I got over the initial hatred, I really enjoyed playing with her set of skills. I acknowledge that the writers are being manipulative by establishing Abby’s picture-perfect relationship with her dad, by introducing Lev and Yara, by turning Ellie into a killer of pregnant women and dogs, by giving Owen a bit of depth when he choses to spare a Scar, but those moments give nuance to the journey. I forgive them.

What I can’t forgive is the third act. There are so many misfires in the story’s conclusion that it’s pointless to try to innumerate them. Let’s just say that Ellie and Abby learn absolutely nothing from the experiences that have been clumsily designed to teach the game player that the cycle of revenge is self-destructive. Wouldn’t it have been great if Ellie had actually learned something before she lost everything? Wouldn’t it have been nice if Abby could have expressed acknowledgement if not an outright apology for killing Joel who basically rescued a 14-year-old girl from being murdered for the chance of saving millions? Let’s not forget (as the writers have) that Ellie was not revived or consulted in the decision, and Joel was marched away at gunpoint by Fireflies who would have rather killed him. Yes, there are two sides to every story, but the ending to TLOU2 is so bleak, so joyless, so aggravating, so pointless that it dramatically overshadows what could have been another game-changer in videogame industry. So close.

Enjoyable is not the right word to use. It's kind of misery porn sometimes. But the technical part - graphics, sound, music, animations is straight 10/10. Also the guitar playing sections are super fun addition (take on me anyone?). Story is not as good as first one but it is still better than most of AAA games that are out there. So from me 7.5/10.

Gameplay was just like the first one and in some aspects even better. New weapons new features. It all felt nice as well as some new tools and upgrades made the game feel something working towards. But the story of the first half is very controversial because of Joel’s death. I think Joel dying so early I. The game was t a bad choice for story design but it’s the way it was executed. Joel and Tommy are survival experts and know when they are walking into an ambush. Tommy even tells them to go to Jackson for supplies and head back where they came from. That isn’t the true Miller brothers we know from the first one. Joel’s death would’ve worked if we saw it through abbys POV from the begging in of the game. If you really think about it what would the plot be about If Joel didn’t die? Killing Joel was too soon which I disagree but it was done correctly in order to show and explain Abbys side of the story. Moving through Seattle days 1-3 was an amazing experience. Hunting down the wolves and going up against the Scars was a cool experience. I also liked the way the game dynamically changed like falling through a floor and getting setback. In terms of characters Dina is a great character but we don’t really learn too much about her. A lot of people found her controversial cause she’s apparently a feminist? Jesse is a great character I like his personality it fits well with the game. Too sad he died. Overall the first half was phenomenal. Killing everyone who was in the room that night felt great that Ellie is getting her revenge person by person. The second half of the game got interesting. We catch up with Abby right before she rushes into the theater and what she was doing 3 days prior to that. The game explains why she did what she did. It all makes sense but the game throws you in loopholes that you can’t get out of till hours later. Up until we switched to Abby I couldn’t understand why she would kill Joel out of nowhere. The gameplay was more so the same with Abby although there were some cool experiences like hospital basement with that huge monster and going on the Scar Island. I didn’t like how we played Abby for a period of time. It felt too long for me. The ending was okay. It wasn’t good. The whole part with the rattlers at the end of the game could’ve been avoided. Instead of Abby getting captured again it would’ve been better if Ellie caught up to her and killed her. Going through the rattlers felt so unnecessary that it started to drift away from the story. Now the beach scene was probably one of the worst scenes in the game. I understand that Abby got her revenge but Ellie never gets to. She lost Joel, Jesse, Tommy and Dina while Abby has lost al her friends but gets to live with Lev. Ellie lost everything to go after Abby and she doesn’t die. The ending could’ve been executed a lot better but it sucks that waiting 7 years for a game led to this. Ultimately this game was very good. The writing was mostly great. The whole gameplay experience with the graphics was absolutely phenomenal. TL:DR - TLOU2 Had a phenomenal experience and graphics but the writing in some crucial parts of the story hurt it more than helped. It’s an amazing experience to play through and I would recommend it to anybody who played the first one. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The good: The most beautiful looking game I have seen on the Playststion 4. Wonderful cinematics and gameplay help push the story along and the score is on par with Part I. A lengthy story worth the price of the game. The gameplay is improved upon from the first game and polished in all aspects with a top notch system for upgrading and crafting. New enemies and a variety of options for taking them on makes for fun and very tense combat throughout.

The bad: Certain characters behave in ways that make you question if Naughty Dog simply abandoned how the character was established in Part I or if they chose to ignore those characteristics in favor of pushing along the narrative they wanted to tell. Introducing a new character that can be viewed as the antagonist and then then forcing the player to take control of them for half of them game and try to make the player sympathize with them simply does not work. Revenge is painted to look bad in this game for one person and yet seems to be okay for another that is also a mistress to a man with a pregnant wife. It is very difficult to root for the character that kills a protagonist from the first game, even if that person is a bad person in the world of The Last of Us. Naughty Dog still built the character to become loved in the first game and players are supposed to simply switch and view him oppositely in this game to make the new character, Abby better received or liked by fans. In my own opinion, the biggest mistake of the game was establishing that Joel was wrong for rescuing Ellie at the end of Part I. Having the first game end with the player left to decide if it was right or wrong is a much better option than flat out deciding it was a fact that it was wrong and later doubling down that Joel was blind by stating he would do it again. New characters that are allies and friends of Abby (her WLF allies) are poorly written and very much unlikable and uninteresting. Yara and Lev will also divide crowds. I found both the characters, and their arc interesting.

However, credit should be given to Naighty Dog for following through with the story they wanted to tell and not letting fear of backlash dictate their path. The game does everything well but falls flat on it's narrative, especially when compared to its predecessor. It is sure to divide fans greatly but is not deserving of an overall bombing of ratings due to it's story. The game is still very entertaining and an experience that should be had by all fans of Naufhty Dog and The Last of Us world. I do not feel that it is worthy of complete praise either. What it does right is done very well, and where it falls, it falls hard. It falls in the middle ground for me but is lifted by what it does successfully accomplish. A solid 7/10 even 7.5, but nothing more due to what I fails to execute well at.

They wanted players to have a view of both Ellie’s and Abby’s story. It was great. But playing as what the players view as the “villain” for more than 5 hours is what made the game look like it was telling Abby’s side of the story rather than Ellie’s story. I think they should’ve created more events for the main protagonists (Joel and Ellie). Overall the gameplay, graphics and music are as impressive as the first game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Having played the game for a while now The Last of Us Part 2 brings a whole new iteration to the franchise however, I felt as though something was missing from it in order for it to compete to the level of the first one.

The improved combat system and level design made the game immersive and responsive to the players actions. The amount of detail that was in the levels were one of the most detailed I have seen in some time especially within this current generation of games. The physics of the foliage overgrowing on buildings to blood trails in the snow made the players character feel more attached to the environment like reality to provide that immersive experience along with the detailed special sound incorporated within it. Another great part to highlight is the combat system and how that incorporates itself within the games levels, this made the players experience feel more unique as your finishers sometimes incorporated smashing enemies through windows or using objects within close proximity to finish them off utilising the environment and surroundings effectively.

Now I've got the positives out of the way here are some of the negatives in which I think had impacted the game a lot and have caused me to give the score I have given. Having one of the main protagonists die by one of the players characters made an intense and powerful story but unfortunately the execution of the killers character felt forced upon and that majority of the story with Abby feels as though Naughty Dog are trying to push you for sympathy of her actions. Due to a large portion of the game is played by her it kind of takes away what the whole story should have been about. From what I can see it looks as though many changes were made throughout the development which then caused the game to feel rushed in some parts which is quite disappointing as there was great potential there.

Overall, it’s not a bad game but don't go in there playing it with high expectations as you may be disappointed.

Including the story which at times can feel very heavy and human the quiet moments between characters shines but at times it feels like the story thinks it's trying to be deep when it's a very overused trope of "revenge bad these are humans" I have seen many media use this same story beatamd do it much better I like the ambition but it's not a very compelling story to me personally.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I want to preface this review with I didn't read any spoilers before playing and completed the whole game.

The Last of Us Part 2 has some of the best graphics, world, atmosphere, level design, and gameplay I've ever played. But as a narrative-driven game, the second half of the game takes some turns that resulted in me not wanting to finish the game. I was only able to complete this game because of the amazing gameplay/level-design and wanting to see how badly they could mess up an otherwise compelling story. By the end of the game I understood the story Naugty Dog was trying to tell. I think there is a good story in there, but the characters and the tropes they pushed in second half of the game missed the mark for me. I feel they are pandering too much to certain demographic and didn't make any attempt to make the second half of the game relatable to the general audience. So let me explain my issues with the narrative:

    *SPOLIERS*
In the first half of the game you play as Ellie trying to get revenge on a character named Abby for killing Joel. Being a big fan of other zombie games/movies, while killing Joel was a huge shock, it didn't turn me off to the game. It was inline for this kind of universe for me. I enjoyed playing as Ellie and I liked all of the new characters they introduced. Watching Ellie slowly become more and more lost to hatred as she kills off Abby friends while hunting for her was believable and compelling to me. You eventually get to the climax where you are confronted with Abby herself. There's so much tension and anticipation built up and then the game just screws you over. When you think you're going to get that sweet revenge it switches over to flashback of Abby with her dad, and then proceeds to make you play the same timeline as Ellie but from Abby's perspective. This is where the game lost me. I don't like Abby's character, and over the course of 10 hours playing as her, that didn't change. I rushed through Abby's part of the game because I didn't care about her and just wanted to see the end of Ellie's storyline. The game is trying to make you empathize and like Abby, but her character is just boring and uninteresting to me. I understand why she killed Joel, I understand she lost her love interest to her quest for revenge, I understand the pain from all of her friends being murdered by Ellie, I understand her trying to slowly redeem herself by helping Lev, I understand she grew and let go of her hatred for Ellie. Despite this, I never found her story interesting and hated playing her the whole time. I would often suicide to vent frustration. I feel really conflicted about this as well because a lot of my favorite gameplay sequences were during Abby's playthrough. Escaping from the scars after being hanged, descending a broken skyscraper filled with zombies, the boss fight in the hospital basement, and the sniper part. These were all some of the coolest things I've played in a game. I just wish I wasn't playing as Abby.

The ending also dragged on forever. I kept thinking the game would end and then there was repeatedly another level or cut screen tacked on. This resulted in my friend and I playing "take a drink every time you think the game is gonna end". I think they could've cut a lot of last few hours out or structured it better. Overall though I think this is a good game. I didn't like Abby's story but I still enjoyed the gameplay itself. If you don't mind Abby or don't care about the story I think you will really enjoy this game. And I think if you were intereseted in game at first, but turned off by the controversy, you should still give the game a chance.

Despite the controversy regarding the story I thought it was fine. Not great by any means but not nearly the tragity people are making it out to be.

My main issue with this game is the pacing. You play through a good portion of the game as Ellie, investing time and interest into her story, then when it seems the story is coming to a climax you're forced to switch characters to a person you've grown to hate. And honestly, I have absolutely no problem with the writing in Abby's story at all. I don't hate they made me play as Abby. I hate that they made me run through the vast majority of the main conflict as Ellie and when **** finally starts to hit the fan they blueballed me and simultaneously ruins the pacing and momentum the story has been building up to. Mildy annoyed you're left with a half chub from the impending climax, you have no choice but to hate Abby when you start down her story path.
And the writers really didn't do her any favors. The first few hours playing as Abby do absolutely nothing to help redeem her in the players eyes. In reality it just drives that nail of hatred further into your big toenail making you want to run through her story at lightspeed. And when you intentonally compel the player to not care about, or empathize with the character they've been made to take control of, players don't give too **** if Abby redeems herself. You just want to zoom through her story and see how the standoff plays out. Much like an unwanted step-father's attention; it just feels forced.

Now I will say that even though Abby's story gives her some surface level redemption, what really made me come around was how fun the gameplay was towards the end of Abby's story.

You beat some **** ass as Abby. You have some really amazing visuals climbing the skyscraper bridge. And some amazing gameplay featuring action sequences which is mostly lacking from the first half of the game. That is solely where her redemption comes from in my opinion and allowed me to finally connect with her as a character.

Conclusion: With great gameplay, stunning environments, and generally a pretty decent story with fleshed out characters; the real thing holding this game back from being great is, what I can only assume, artistic liberties/choices taken by the games director. The choice to switch to Abby when he did instead of switching periodically just completely stops all the momentum and tension the story has going for it. "Is Ellie finally going to get this ****

"Will the people of Jackson get vengeance for Joel's brutal murder on their own turf?"

"Can Ellie find a way to forgive Joel for robbing her of a sense of meaning from her life?" "Will Abby get bent over a desk by some guy that died 6 hours ago?!?!?"

These are the questions I found myself asking instead of paying attention to what was supposed to humanize an otherwise ****ty person.

ENDING: I've seen a lot or people upset that Ellie doesn't kill Abby in the end. Personally I thought it was fine she opted to not kill Abby. Did I think Abby deserved to die? Yes. Did I want her to die? You **** bet, bud.

The entire duration of Ellie's gameplay we only get flashbacks of Joel where he's painted in a terrible light. (Outside of the museum memory) But finally when we are about to turn that **** Abby's lights out for good we get a flash to a memory of Joel. One where he's not bleeding out on the floor. Or an uncomfortable conversation. We get a flash to a memory of forgiveness. We finally see Joel in a good light, and that's what made me okay with Ellie not finishing the job. Finaly thoughts: This game could have been an easy 9/10 with better direction. So in my opinion its Neil that's to blame for the Lukewarm experience.

But, surprisingly is a character that has some thought put into her. Though the way she kills a certain character is unacceptable, her side is messy through many different ways. In her quest to find the remainders of a familiar organization, she loses her friends, loved ones, her home, and much more. But grows a relationship with new characters and allies.

Ellie's side is a lot focused when it comes to her objective. Ellie is determined to get her revenge at the cost of her friend's lives and more. She is reckless and even at times scary. Gameplay is brutal and disgusting. There are more ways to take out your enemies. You can rush them head on with shotguns, rifles and fists, or you can stealthily take them down with silenced pistols, bows and knives. At one point, Abby's side felt more like Joel's gameplay (from TLOU1), and Ellie seemed like Ellie. Also, this is something I'm quoting right now. "Graphics do not make a a game." That being said, the areas and world's are beautiful and breathtaking. Each new location is more gorgeous than the last. The Last Of Us ll is confusing and weird. Gameplay feels great. Puzzles are not bad. But TLOU is a story driven game, leading characters Ellie and Abby constantly making decisions and behaving illogically are what drive me crazy. If not the outstanding gameplay and graphic, this game deserves below average.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My main issue with this game is some parts being very good, 10/10 even, and others being so unbelievably bad it almost makes you turn the game off. Naughty Dog did an excellent job in a bunch of different aspects, but ultimately failed in the most important one. I want to be clear, I do not hate the story, but i did not love it. I expected Joel to die and so did a lot of fans, and I don’t believe Joel was acting “out of character” for trusting Abby and her people. He had been in a trusting town for 4+ years and if you read the log book, they clearly try to help out whoever they can. However, the way Abby is set up simply makes it almost impossible to like or empathize with her. Joel was simply too beloved to be killed off like he was some NPC. And the fact that I had to play with his killer for 10-12+ hours was criminal. I don’t mind her being a playable character for a short amount (maybe 5-6 hours), but fans were told Ellie would be the only playable character by Druckmann himself so that was a slap in the face. Abby is also just a pretty **** person, the game tries to show you some good things she’s done to make you change your mind but Mel hit the nail on the head when she was **** her out. Naughty Dog also tried to make Ellie very unlikeable. They force you to do horrible things as her then judge you for it when you play as Abby (killing her dog for example). However, I actually really liked most of the new side characters; Dina and Jesse were great, and I think Abby’s crew had some bright spots as well. The acting in this game was some of the best i have ever seen, even with the subpar script they were given. Ashley Johnson absolutely killed it in every single scene. The facial expressions and animations are easily the best i’ve seen in a video game. The same thing can be said about the graphics, sound and music. The world Naughty Dog built and brought to life in this game is absolutely breathtaking, i found myself stopping and just admiring it regularly throughout the game. I have never felt this immersed in a game other than the first installment in this series. I’ve seen some complaints about how the gameplay hasn’t evolved at all since the last game and I don’t necessarily agree with that. While the core aspects of the gameplay may be the same even small additions like prone, dodge, and a knife that doesn’t break every time you use it give you so many more options on how to tackle each level. The puzzles in this game were your typical Naughty Dog puzzles. Not an extreme variety, you’ll get a few dumpsters and some ropes and a few secret entrances. TLOU will never blow you away with their puzzles. This game is rather easy to get lost in, however. Admittedly, I needed the hint feature to pop up on the screen a few times. The enemies in Part 2 suffer from
the same thing they did in the first game: repetition. There isn’t much to say about this, you just fight the same 5 things the entire game, and most of them can be taken out with the same strategy. Human AI is still incredibly dumb with extremely narrow fields of vision. Dogs were a neat addition but ultimately very easy to counter. Overall, i rate this game a 7/10 with the cons being a bad set up for one of the protagonists, Joel dying way too early in the game, the way he died, drawn out sections of the game, repetitive enemies and lazy writing. The pros of this game are the graphics, acting, animation, sound, music, and level design. The story for the game as a whole falls somewhere in between pros and cons.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Setting aside my review not as a fan but a writer. Like many of us, I understand the grief to have lost one of our most beloved character. Joel set us up on a emotional roller coaster that delivered such a beautiful ending in TLOU part 1. As much as I would like to give this story a negative review I truly believe the narrative is remarkable. Yet there is no redemption in vengeance.

The ending left me with one question.. How am I supposed to feel?

Ellie didn't grow from her experience, she simply.. Lost it all. Abby lost her father and all of her friends, yet she continued to suffer. Both characters showed emotional and heavy losses throughout the game but none of these characters were able to grow from their experiences. The game is an emotional wreck and the constant shifts of characters eluded any real meaning that could've made for a more or better less, redemption story.

Beside the death of Joel the only other part of the game that I got emotional on was seeing a malnourished Abby. Only then did I feel for her character knowing that both characters suffered so much. Because of vengeance? To find justice? We're rewarded with nothing but grief.

I feel pity for both of these character.

Graphically the game is very beautiful, it is not a slap either but I clearly do not have to complain about this side. I only encountered one big bug in my 27 hours of play, so the optimization is also there, the game is technically well finished.

The scenario ... great subject ... it is a completely subjective opinion, I rather appreciated it, I found it coherent but it also did not carry emotionally as I expected. I found the new characters quite bland.

The big problem for me is above all in the very structure of the game, what we do there is just absolutely not interesting! We advance, we arrive in an area with enemies inside or outside but will ultimately be the same as the previous one, human or infected no matter there is no difference in how to defeat them. It lacks surprises, variations in events.
Having to shave the walls and furniture to 20 cm to see if we can loot an item or not is simply unbearable, Naughty Dog should have made this more visible.
The successions of keys on which to press to create ammunition or care are not intuitive and pose problem during fights in difficult mode because the enemy simply does not leave us time to create anything.

TLOU Part II is for me a good game, pleasant to do, no more no less.

The story itself had a good concept, however some of the story dragged on for way too long, which made me lose interest quite quickly. My favourite thing for me about this game, in terms of story, had to be the fact Ellie was left by everyone at the end due to only wanting revenge and not thinking about any of her other friends. Due to her fingers getting bitten off at the end she couldn’t play guitar, which is meant to represent Joel and Cos of that she leaves the guitar and her memories of Joel behind.

However my favourite thing about this game for me was the soundtrack. Oh my god it’s probably the best I’ve ever heard for a game with how dynamic and how well suited it is to the different environments!

    I’d rate this game a 7/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us 2 is a mixed bag of good and bad.

Naughty Dog absolutely nail the atmosphere, environments and the infected are as terrifying as ever with some interesting new ones thrown into the mix.

Yes they kill Joel, this was expected! The underhanded way of doing it though really ruins the type of character he was in the first game and they do nothing in the story to really conclude that Joel or tommy would be stupid enough to reveal their names, This left a sour taste in my mouth for much of the remainder of my playthrough as i felt the writing was incredibly lack luster if this was how they chose to off him.

What followed is a pursuit to kill Abby and cohorts through a gorgeous world with generation defining graphics and some fun gamplay... at first. Whilst the envirnoments and graphics were always great the gameplay became rather boring fast. Something i never noticed in the first one, this mainly falls down to the reduced character building between the ellie and Dina, as compared to Ellie and joel in the first one and this leads to some awfully boring solo sections that do not do well as they are just too long.

They try to portray the violence as something ellie is having a hard time coming to grips with when you meat one of the friends of abby and smash her face in... however youd already slit at least 200 throats by this point.. so the message just doesnt work.

Abby was interesting and i did prefer her section but the game forces you to restart the upgrade the mechanic and they do this at a time when the story feels like its at a climax really ruining the momentum of the plot.

The ending... just awful and dragged out 4 hours too long.

The story just have some amazing sections, the relationship between Dina and Ellie, the relationship between Abbie and Lev, Abby and Owen are all well told but they just dont linger and these moments long enough.

As for gamplay sections there were so many that were just top of their class, the section in the subway, the sniper run, the boat run, the island and too many small ones to name, but they are just overshadowed by long drawn out pieces of boredome, usually alone with no back and forth between the characters.

The game is not bad, by a long shot, but for me the story and gamplay are just not enough to be a great game just a decent one. Id give it a 7.5 out of 10 but it has to be 7 o r8 and i cant justify an 8.

The real problem is the narrative game is trying to force on players. It was brave move that didn't work out at all. I have this feeling that this was someone exclusive idea which he really liked but didn't want to understand that majority of people are going to strongly dislike it.
“I know you wish things were different (10/10), I wish things were different but they ain’t”
You can extract everything that is best in this game: excellent graphics, superb audio, superior gameplay, awesome acting, strong feelings and give it 10/10.
“When lost in darkness, look for the light”
You can also grab everything that is the worst and give it 5/10.
This seems like two extremes but maybe not necessarily. Not all of the players played tlou1 before, not all of the people are emotionally attached to the game or maybe does not want to (professional reviewers). Without doubt you can stick to something you like or dislike and this is another issue of TLoU2, it’s polarizing to extremes. That wasn’t the case with tlou1, some liked the story, some didn’t but everyone got it, understood and appreciated. This was a story at the end you could say: “Wow, this was a ride” no matter if you agreed with the characters decisions or not. I personally love tlou1 and I know that I’ll return to it someday, sadly I don’t know if that’s the case with tlou2. That being said it’s 7 out of 10 (good but with serious storytelling problems).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us Part II is disappointing to say the least. After seven years, we, the players, were expecting an epic tale surpassing the first game in both storytelling and gameplay. While the gameplay is smooth, intense, and even fun, the story doesn’t even compare to the first one. Even though I entered the game with high hopes and wes, I can honestly say that TLOU2 isn’t THAT bad of a game. I finished the game in two days, playing the first eighteen or so hours in one sitting. Despite the pacing being slightly off, the first ten hours where you play as Ellie are amazing. I found myself constantly wondering what would happen next and genuinely enjoying the gameplay. I felt things I’ve never felt before while playing a video game. For example, on the way to the aquarium, I was overcome with a sense of dread and panic. I found myself having to pause the game to gather my emotions a lot. When I first read the reviews that said that the violence was overwhelming and would genuinely make you sick, I was reluctant to believe that it would effect me the way that it did. When Ellie killed Mel without knowing she was pregnant, (and the entire time I knew that she was), I was sick to my stomach. Seeing Ellie react the way she did made it even worse. A few other reviews have said that the way Ellie reacted after killing Nora was unrealistic, considering that she had killed many other people before her, but her reaction was genuine to me. That was the first time that she had killed someone without them fighting back. The first time she had truly tortured someone. This is the first time she is met with one of the consequences of her actions. With all of these things considered, the first act is probably my favorite. Now, the second act is one of the most controversial video games acts I’ve ever heard spoken about. If I’m being honest, I’m still gathering my true thoughts about this part. The gameplay? Truly, Abby’s gameplay was fun and intense, but felt jumbled together without a true purpose. It also felt too long and drawn out. I understand what Naughty Dog was trying to do. Make us empathize with Abby and make us understand her pain and actions. This wasn’t as successful as they wanted. Of course, Abby was a good character and she had depth, but whenever I started to like her, I remembered that she tortured Joel to death. Look, we all knew that Joel was gonna die. The moment he killed all those fireflies, he signed his death certificate. For him to be tortured to death by Abby? I don’t think he deserved that. It’s not like he made her father suffer. He made it as quick as he could. He didn’t even want to kill him, her father got in his way so Joel eliminated him. For Abby to go out of her way to find Joel, travel to Wyoming, torture and kill him in front of his adopted daughter and not expect any repercussions? Well, that was incredibly stupid of her. The entire game Ellie was punished for wanting to seek revenge, but Abby wasn’t. You could argue that Abby’s friends died, but even then, it’s not like she was left alone. Abby had Lev to keep her company. A quick side note, I’m happy that a character like Lev was put into the game. It’s good to see representation in such a mainstream video game, even if it is this type of game. Anyway, for Abby to have killed Jesse, and to have almost killed Ellie, Dina, and Tommy, she deserved worse than what she got. Ellie was consumed with the idea of revenge and in the end, it destroys what was good in her life. She thought that once Abby was dead, the flashbacks, the nightmares, the PTSD from Joel’s death would disappear. In the final act of the game, before Ellie can actually kill Abby, her last memory of Joel, a promise to try to forgive him and mend their relationship, stops her from finishing the job. She realizes that Joel wouldn’t have wanted her to let this idea control her life, and she finally ends the cycle of revenge. Thus, allowing Abby and Lev to escape the Rattlers and make the trip to Catalina Island, where the last of the Fireflies have regrouped. Ellie, unable to play guitar, AKA the only thing she had left of Joel, returns to her home to find Dina and JJ gone. My question is, why does Abby, who never once showed remorse for killing Joel or ruining Ellie, get to have a happy ending, while Ellie, who showed remorse and even spared Abby in the end, get punished and left with nothing? Even after all of this, I still don’t think it’s a bad game. Visually, it’s a masterpiece. It’s the prettiest game I’ve ever played. Gameplay wise, it’s fantastic. The storytelling just doesn’t live up to the first one. Is it as bad as everyone is making it out to be? No, not at all. Is it worthy of GOTY? No, not even close. I do hope to see a DLC, maybe not an entire third game, but some sort of a continuation of the story. Even without anything, I’m excited to see what Naughty Dog does next. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I believe that the game is not bad. Personally, I liked it.
But! But there are some issues that I put 7/10 on.
    (1) JOEL'S DEATH. Yes, it is terrible and because of this already disappears some desire to play. I don't mind such a strong plot twist. BUT... but not at the beginning of the game! In the end, it would be better or better in the middle of the game, so that the emotions are stronger bursting. Well, also because of his death, there is a lack of a charismatic companion, because Dina is no good as a companion.
    (2) the PLOT. There are a few quibbles at this point:
    1) Trusting Joel and Tommy to strangers (Abby's company).
    2) The final game. Ellie was killing everyone in her path to kill Abby, and she stopped at the last moment. Of course, it could be put down to her comparing herself and Joel to Abby and the Lion. But **** This is such nonsense.
    3) the Storyline behind Abby. Yes, this is an interesting move to tell the motivation of the enemy. BUT it was so boring to play for her. But in places it was really interesting to watch. But other than that, it was boring, and honestly, I didn't give a **** Since I was more interested in watching Ellie's story. We would have done two hours of gameplay for it and everything is OK.
    (3) LGBT. I have nothing against LGBT people. As if who wants who and... Well, you understand. But the game is really too much with this theme. Sometimes there are moments where it was possible not to insert. And with friends noticed that the game has a lot of enemies NPC women.
Well, the graphics and development in the game are great. I liked that we added the ability to crawl and jump over obstacles. I also liked the weapons in the game.
Well, in the end, I liked the game, I got a lot of emotions from it, which made my mouth open in shock, and I can even say that I got a lot of sad emotions from the game, too. Especially after the final game, I couldn't sleep for two hours after that. But TLOU 1 will still be better.
P.S. it is Better to take the game when there are discounts.

Now for the bad part eventhough we can understand abbys anger over her fathers death the game doesn’t give us a real connection to abby until near enough the end of the game really the game wasn’t structured well rather than change characters at the 12 hour mark they should have switched between the 2 characters throughout the game that way it would have flowed better and we wouldn’t feel as angry about being forced to play as abby especially after spending so much time with ellie and upgrading her aswell also there’s no real dialogue between ellie and abby in any of their interactions ellie doesn’t even know abbys reason for killing joel she just assumes it’s in retaliation for the fireflies and not someone as close as her own father i feel if this dialogue was used then ellies decision to let abby live at the end would have had more context and understanding.
If the game had such changes I would bump my rating upto a 9

While the graphics and audio are very good (I played mine on a PS4 Pro with headphones) the story I feel is not as good as the first with even parts that just don;t flat out make sense at all. There were actually times when I was literally laughing out loud at how absurd the game was getting and my wife was laughing too. In addition, the number of glitches and bugs I found on the sad side. I found one bug that had me actually stuck in a prone position in a truck and I couldn't get out without restarting the game. I found other bugs like infected stuck in the environment and not reacting to sound at all. There was one where i was told to lure the infected out with noise, nothing worked so i had to navigate while looking through a scope to find the infected i was missing. Real fun "rolls eyes". I really find it hard to believe that anyone who is giving this a 10 has played through the 2nd half of the game never mind the whole thing. Here is an example of a non spoiler issue LOL. There is a fence. Character says I need to find my way around. In front of the fence is a garbage can that if the game allowed you to, you could just climb on the garbage can and hop over the fence. There are quite a few of these moments in the game when you are scratching your head saying, "Why would they have me do this when i can just go right there?" I understand the whole suspend belief thing, but when my wife and I are actually laughing...

is the game worth playing? Yes. I think they put a lot of time and effort into the game. As I am familiar with the area in the first part of the game, they did take some liberties ;) If you can overlook a lot of the silliness in the game (I think the general premise of this game was built around a silly idea) it is a pretty interesting game. I am playing it on hard and while the game mentions there are a lot less supplies, I never found myself running out of ammo or resources.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall it was an enjoyable experience playing that left me with a mixture of emotions all at once: frustration, sadness, determination and fear.

In regards to the improvements, I found the gameplay to be improved somewhat, adding in new mechanics (e.g. dodge during melee, going prone to hide/access certain areas) alongside with a few tweaks that made the combat segments more intense/enjoyable than the first instalment (e.g. easier to stealth kill, many options to approach enemies which caters to various play styles).

The visuals/audio I considered to be a vast improvement, every emotion evoked by each character felt authentic. The gruesome attention to detail from bashing someone's face in with a pipe or blood gushing out of a slit throat from your blade really aided in setting the gritty, morbid tone The Last Of Us is known for, however it is most certainly 'amped up' within Part II. Each voice actor/actress performed their roles very well-done, and I was genuinely surprised by the appearance of Laura Bailey and Jeffrey Wright.

Discussing the new characters, I honestly thought was not lacking, but they could've been improved slightly. The death of Joel had now forced me to start feeling for the new characters, Dina and Jesse. Unfortunately, they just didn't strike me as much as I'd hoped. I found as if they weren't given enough time for their personalities/backgrounds to breathe long enough. For example, the idea I had gotten from Jesse's character was that he had an Asian background, he was once in a relationship with Dina and at some point had gotten her pregnant. That was it. That's not to say I necessarily hated these characters, they were just mediocre at best. The dynamic relationship between Joel and Ellie on their journey through the states was a crucial element in Part I that made it so great. They are one of the most memorable and loveable video game duos of my generation. For Naughty Dog to kill him off was a bold move on their part and I could see why. They wanted to build more on the world of The Last Of Us.

Along with Dina and Jesse, Part II introduced the new protagonist Abby and her crew. Personally I couldn't stand Abby's character not only because of her intentions to murder Joel, but also I thought her personality was actually pretty cold and selfish. Despite all that, she was actually one of the more fleshed out characters of the entire game. Her motivations and actions throughout Part II could be argued as justifiable in some cases. I still disliked her however. The other members (Owen, Mel, Manny, etc.) again all were too similar to Dina and Jesse, just slightly mediocre characters with somewhat fleshed out backgrounds but it just wasn't enough to feel invested in them. The two characters that took me by surprise but was Yara and Lev who I thought were the most charming and likeable new characters. I was genuinely motivated to aid this ragtag brother-sister duo along with their issues.

Addressing the general plot... To be honest, at first I wasn't sure what I was getting into. I hadn't seen many of the trailers/gameplay reveals released prior so basically I delved in with no set expectations. Halfway through however, I thought so far the story was a complete mess. Everything that happened as it strung me along felt all over the place. Ellie's endeavours in Seattle was more concise and easy to follow where as Abby's adventures with Yara and Lev was convoluted and unpredictable. However after finishing the campaign and looking back on it, I grew to somewhat appreciate the muddy tone of the story. As much as a mess it was, it made me want to progress more because I was so on edge as to what was gonna happen until the end of the game. Despite the flawed storyline, Last Of Us Part II is still a riveting take on how the world would cope in an apocalyptic setting.

I will add this in, seeing the advertising after finishing the game TWICE now was most certainly misleading in the sense that Joel was depicted as a more major character in the story, taking Jesse's spot at certain points during the trailers. Yes, video game trailers are edited often to prevent giving away crucial plot elements but in Naughty Dog's case it was such a noticeable difference and for fans to feel betrayed in such a way I do not blame them.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Writing this review after finishing the game moments ago. After 30h ish of game time, I can say that I enjoyed most of it, but feel like Druckmann and Naughty Dog owe me a few hours back.

    Story
What I loved about the first game was that it was relatively unique within the zombie survival-horror genre. The zombies themselves were unique, Joel and Ellie had a refreshing dynamic you don't see too often, and the "I'm immune" storyline was told in a new way and went in a direction I didn't expect, which ended up being the main event that serves as the heartbeat of this game. The Last of Us Part 2 has a story that took me 30 hours to beat, but got its message across within 10. After that, when you're reading between the lines you're often thinking "I know... you said that already... we get it... revenge is bad... Abby and Ellie are the same... war and violence is just an endless cycle that accomplishes nothing...". That message in itself is something The Walking Dead has been saying for 10 years, so it's remarkably disappointing to see The Last of Us fall into zombie-genre cliches - after the first was so unique.

What lets down the execution of the story is the way in which it is told. I'm all for a good non-linear form of storytelling, but I think the dominoes are setup in the wrong order here. When the game switches half way through to Abby's past 3 days, you meet a lot of the characters you've already killed as Ellie. This made me form absolutely no emotional attachment to them whatsoever, so I never felt bad for killing them - except for the doggo Alice, she was a good doggo. If the stories were told side-by-side, and we got to know Owen, Nora, Leah and Mel before Ellie runs into them, it would have let those scenes sting a bit for the player - juggling between the idea that you kind of want Ellie to succeed but you also don't want her to kill these people. That idea is perfectly executed when the stories line up though and you're forced to play as Abby as she hunts down Ellie in the theatre. I still wanted Ellie to accomplish her goal so getting me, the player, to play as her opponent trying to take her down was a great touch, and made me do something I didn't want to do - much in the same way as Joel's infamous scene in the first game.

However, this zig-zagging between stories all leads to a fairly disappointing ending. I understand the message of the game, I understand why every character does what they do, and I understand Druckmann didn't want you to really know which side was correct - they're both equally justified and wrong in their actions. But for a sense of satisfaction, I wanted Abby or Ellie to kill the other. Just put a pin in that story. End it properly. If Ellie won, she did it but at the cost of losing everyhing else - revenge made her lose more than gain anything - the point of the game still stands. If Abby won, she's become Joel - and the cycle will likely repeat in an imaginary Last of Us 3, and Ellie would have died seeking revenge - again showing she's lost everything. If the game wasn't so long-winded, I'd be happy with the ending the way it is, but after I've spent 30 hours of my life to ultimately get to an equilibrium that was present 5 hours in, it feels like a waste.

    Gameplay
If it ain't broke, why fix it? The gameplay in this game is pretty much identical to the first, with a few minor adjustments here and there. The weapon upgrade system is the same but with new, sleek animations and the player upgrade system is just a little bit deeper with a lot more options. The weapon selection and core combat mechanics all remain the same, except for the melee combat. Melee has been changed so that more than one enemy can attack you at a time - which is welcomed, and it is now a bit more skill-based than the button-mashing style of the first game. You now have to time dodges by looking at tells from the enemy, and some enemies can dodge and grab you when you try to hit them. I found the dodge mechanic to be... pardon the pun... a little hit and miss. Sometimes you would dodge out the way, and other times I felt I'd still get hit even though I timed the dodge well and moved in the correct direction. This melee system works well overall, but without a lock-on system sometimes you can get hit after dodging because the enemy has gone off-camera and you need to find where they are again. It's a minor frustration, but it happened often enough to get under my skin a little.

Something else that got under my skin was the AI detection. I played on normal difficulty and, while I like good AI when it comes to stealth games, the detection in this game seems a little funky. Blind clickers would often see me when I wasn't moving at all, some enemies would see me through walls, and some can see you from quite a distance away - which isn't an issue in itself, but when your listen-mode seems to only go 50ft or so, it's easy to miss an enemy further away who could be looking right at you.

The only reason why this game is just mediocre for me is that is doesn't understand why player's enjoyed the first game. The narrative lead (Halley Gross) clearly doesn't understand the medium of video games and how narrative works. She's treating it as it's a TV show and you can see that in the game.

Abby is actually a great character and I really like her outside of her actions in Jackson. But I can't connect with her because she destroyed the hope that TLOU was giving you. Both Halley and Neal went for a Game of Thrones type of storytelling and tried to be shocking and deep at the same time. Again, if that would have been a TV show where I'm passively watching I wouldn't care at all but as a player it feels like a **** writing.
There is no resolution at the end whatsoever. Why do we play games? To feel bad? To see that the 15+ hour effort didn't matter at all? No, quite on the contrary. We play for a play experience and TLOU Part II failed at that.

What bothers me as well is that Abby and Ellie both had so many options to talk about their hate but no, they just keep on killing and fighting. I don't understand why it took Ellie so long to realize that revenge won't change a thing after she's killing hundreds of innocent animals and people just to get to Abby. That's really not the character we met in TLOU 1.

Instead it is handled in a very overbearing manner which makes you play as two conflicting protagonists. How this could this ever be satisfying? I’d classify this as SPOILER LIGHT - as I actually want to encourage people to give the game a chance - it doesn’t actually say what happens, but it references certain things !! Summary: Story is good but not as good TLOU1, and has a couple of underwhelming and frustrating narrative choices - the ending was almost excellent, but ultimately bowed to making a statement about the themes of the game. I went into this game with awareness of the negative attention it was receiving, but managed to stay spoiler free - perhaps this helped lower my expectations which were sky high after playing the original which was potentially my favourite game of all time.

The graphics, gameplay, sound design and environments are fantastic as to be expected, so I won’t really cover them, as story and character development are the contentious points.

I actually really liked a number of the new side characters, primarily Jesse, Dina, Lev, Yara and Owen - with Tommy also a great, but familiar face. Spoilers from here onwards

    Characters:

Jesse at first seemed a bit bland, almost as if he was there to fill space, but he started to really grow on me, as someone who truly cared about his friends.

Dina had a lot of personality in my eyes - she was confident despite hardships in her past (such as killing someone when she was 10 to protect her mother) amongst other things, funny, smart, and caring - though unfortunately she never really seemed to make any decisions that didn’t revolve around her very recent love for Ellie.

Owen was actually the one Wolf that I felt any empathy towards - he very much did seem to have a personality of his own, and beyond that, he always seemed to want the “right” choice - and was fiercely loyal to those around him. He may have been a part of what happened at the start of the game, but certainly worth noting he was willing to fight his own friends to prevent them from taking an extra step.

Yara and Lev - these two were pretty much what kept the Non-Ellie story rolling for me. During day 1 of the non-Ellie sections I was very disinterested and wanted to get back to going after what my primary goal in this game was. But I actually became intensely interested in the story of Yara and Lev - they had gone through pain, and judgement, but had not turned hateful as those around them had done. Beyond this though, they also followed one of the key themes of the game that what you do does affect the others around you, whether it was the “right” choice or not.

    Story:

It’s not as good of the first one - not even close. But I don’t think it is as bad as I was lead to believe.

The catalyst event for the story is difficult to take - but makes a lot of sense in the context of past events - and tied into the theme of both revenge, and that your actions have consequences for both those around you, and for yourself.

The throwback sequences with Ellie and Joel were masterfully done, and a real throwback to the first game. I actually think they may be the sequences that I enjoyed most - which I think is natural because the Ellie/Joel dynamic is unmatched by anything in this game. They also had some quite difficult emotional moments, as well as touching and heartwarming ones.

One in particular touches on Ellie’s determination to find out what happened at the hospital. The results of this were a shocking plot point, but one I really felt impacted by, and which made everything that had happened so far in the game more difficult emotionally for Ellie. On the section where you are not controlling Ellie - what I will say is all that made this section at all playable for me was one particular flashback, the Yara and Lev subplot, and Owen. Otherwise I wanted to get back to what drove my for the rest of the game - the same revenge Ellie was after.

The ending/aftermath - I’m torn - there was a lot to like about the ending, but it’s almost spoiled by one particular non-action in my eyes. I think I would have hated it if it weren’t for a cutscene at the very end, which felt very much like the first games, but with the added poignancy of knowing that the chance of what was discussed in it was taken from them.

Abby was an excellently executed character, while I feel at times the pacing of events could have been better, the story by the end felt quite fulfilling despite it being controversial. At first, I hated playing as Abby due to what she did to Tommy, Jessie and of course Joel- but as I played as her I gradually began to like her more and even went on to like her more than Ellie. This was momentarily however, as after switching back to Ellie I fell right back into her story and my love for the character was rejuvenated. I think that’s why I think the game is great, as it played with my feelings for characters a lot.

Some of the problems I had was some of the pacing, how Joel and Jesse were dealt with and the separation I felt this game had from the first.

I think this game feels more of a standalone masterpiece rather than a sequel to the masterpiece that was the first.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is amazing when Joel & Ellie are on screen, but the other characters just aren’t interesting even though the game wants them to be. Instead of fleshing out the tattered relationship between Joel & Ellie, we get snippets of it and a whole lot of forced emotional moments that just don’t hit home. We haven’t traveled with these characters enough to care when they eventually die. Key characters make a return from the original and play little to no part here. Tommy is held to yet another small role that makes an occasional appearance just to remind you here’s still around. Joel’s role is pretty much a whipping post for Ellie’s emotions. He’s scalded for 95% of his screen time and doesn’t really ever explain why he did what he did to Ellie in person. Instead, we are forced into SJW warfare with lesbian, woman-power, men suck and must die injected into our eyeballs for most of the game. Although, the game isn’t bad it just doesn’t hold up to the original story-wise. Gameplay wise is a different story. The mechanics are expanded and work well. The game is intense and brutal as expected. Although, Ellie and Abby control virtually the same which is a big disappointment considering the vastly different styles portrayed in the great cutscenes. Lastly, the soundtrack just doesn’t have the heart and feeling of the original. When you heard the original soundtrack you felt everything the composer wanted you to feel. Here the soundtrack is virtually absent outside of a few moments. I will say the song Joel sings at the beginning really packs a emotional punch, but ND Ruins it by going back to it several times during the game. Expand

Last Of Us Part II is a good game, story wasn't as powerful as the first installment and killing Joel was a huge disappointment but at the same time I can understand why Neil Druckmann made that decision to let Ellie's character and story evolve. You also get to play as Abby and Naughty Dog tried to make you see her side of the story and understand there is no good guys in Last Of Us, however I'm too stubborn and Joel is one of my all time favorite characters so she can go suck a d***. Also the other side characters aren't very likable. Dina is a pain. Mel is a whiny b****, Manny isn't funny and Owen is one of the most vanilla characters.

The graphics are way ahead of it's time and I did have fun playing this game. My huge problem with it is the ending. The ending made the whole game pointless and gave Abby the better ending compared to Ellie. I would of rather the ending have been a dream like Dallas and Joel is still alive.

Was it the game I wanted? Graphics 100% Controls and Crafting 100% even the world they had from the original was 100% but if tweaks had been made to the storyline then this game would of been a proud sequel to one of the greatest games ever made.

The attention to detail was just incredible, the fighting, mini puzzles etc were all spot on. Unfortunately my experience was dampened by the killing of Joel within the first hour of the game! The story follows a revenge plot but dragged on for soo long that i litteraly didnt care by the end! I was over it. To some extent playing as Abby was a genius idea but I feel the order the story follows could of been executed a lot better. I do believe Joel had to die but I felt this would have been better achieved later in the play through. Expand

I just finished playing and overall I have mixed opinions on this game; gorgeous graphics, mechanics well put together although the storyline seemed empty and not well focused on. An unbalanced game?

Up until the end, very well done. The ending needed more. The character development certainly needed more. I will certainly play again. If a followup was to be introduced, hopefully,

That being said, the game was by no means terrible. I believe anyone who rates it extremely low or extremely high is not doing the game justice with their review. If a game has amazing graphics, a great game-play style, but a lackluster story, that game is NOT a 1 star game. It's absolutely fair to criticize where one feels is necessary but not giving credit where credit is due and following the "game is bad" group-think is just outright simpleminded and childish. Expand

The original Last of Us is a journey across America starring two characters who are brought closer together through the traumatic experiences they go through together. part 2 on the other hand, restricts players in a single location for 6 chapters causing the story to feel dead and repetitive.

This game is an ambitious experience that challenges the fans of the first game, but doesn’t deliver the same strengths in interactive storytelling as we have come to expect from the best known Sony first party studio.

Naughty Dog created a story that is intentionally one that audiences wouldn’t have expected. There are a wide range of experiences in this game that invoke Feelings of hate, anger, sadness and nostalgia. This is a roller coaster experience that isn’t solely a continuation of Joel and Ellie’s relationship as we knew it to be. Instead, Part II is an exploration of the impact of violence. Each character in this world has suffered loss and the player is forced to understand that repetitively, through many side characters presented in this game. there are moments in this game that will reward all players but if you’re strictly attached to the Joel and Ellie father-daughter relationship this game will not meet expectations. The best advice I can give to players is dive into this game with an open mind, trust that the 25 + hour long story will be met with solid conclusion.

Overall, this game is a brave and beautiful exploration of humanity that finally comes together in the last few hours of playing. however, it falls short in its pacing and storytelling. The first game is not only a great game but a great piece of media to entertain a wide range of audiences globally. Part II is a good game from a technical standpoint but its narrative doesn’t quite resonate the same way as it’s predecessor.
to end on a positive, this is easily the best looking game currently available on PS4 and it will be discussed for years to come.

The familiar feel of the controls is what reminds us of the original and the addition of new types of infected keeps things interesting. As a game the last of us part 2 is excellent, the graphics are some of the best ive seen on ps4 and the gameplay itself works well. the emphasis on the brutality of melee combat is also a good addition. There are however some major issues with the story itself that i do not agree with. it is not just the events that occur that don't feel right but the pacing itself seems odd at times. some parts of the game feel as if they would work better in a different order. I also found myself enjoying the first sections as Ellie on her quest during the first 10 hours or so alot more than I thought i would given what had happened. However i really disliked Abby and no matter how the character development tried to justify her actions to make you like her it wasn't going to work. I found the latter part of the game where you play as Abby to be a tedious slog that I just put up with to get back to being Ellie to find out what happens next. I was also bitterly disappointed with the end of the game but understood the direction they were going in. To conclude the brilliant gameplay and graphics make this a must play but it is seriously let down by its story. Expand

    - story, sorry Niel, I don't get why first game need a sequel and part two don't answer that question, so writing is really bad, simple, boring, if you pretend what you big, it's only pretend, but for nouthy dog game it's normal what'd you expect? huh, except last of us part one - have good characters and chemistry, good side characters, good side story, part two shoot herself in both legs and scream come and get me, not memorable story and characters.

    - characters and building relation , don't remember any of it except E and J flashback, don't care about Abby or her crew, or dogs whatever, it's so miserable for developers to do such premitive kicks.

    - bad direction from Niel and his vision, thanks for the first, and disrespect for part two.

Game itself 7/10 , good game but it's name the last of us in title, i pay money, i have rights to say. It's Bad sequel, Joel you was right, or i need say Niel? you expect that? Don't care, won't buy or pre-order anything from you Naughty, ciao! Druckman.

So this game is good and defintely not the 0/10 fans are giving out of frustration which i understand, but its just not right and not objective constructive critisism. Everything under a 5/10 is just not fair. The graphics and environments are beautiful. Voice acting, cutscene and facial aninmations are great and are very high quality, ive nevers seen something like this in a video game. Gameplay even tho it was only very slightly improved since 2013 was also good and i had a lot of fun throughout the game (NPCs were kinda lacking tho). The ingame animation as well as the character models are also stunning, sound design and weather effects are equaly good.
Story: The fact that the main characters are a lesbian and a masculine bodybuilder female dont change a single thing ( I think a hetero relationship might have been even more annoying), but sometimes i had the feeling that it was more about Ellies love life instead of her revenge and mainly at the beginning killed the serious atmosphere and took the spotlight of Ellies sorrow over Joels death. Which btw was very predictable imo (when it was first announced that it was about Ellies revenge my first guess was that Joel is killed by fireflies). The flashbacks and cutscenes are nice but they could have delivered this agenda otherwise without spitting in our faces after waiting 7 years and paying 70 dollars. It was written pretty badly with a lot of predictability, plot holes and poor character choices. Also trying to justify Abby killing Joel with her story didnt work (I stll wish Abby a very slow and painful death) and just stretched the game a lot which has pacing issues. Character development is weird (unnatural) to non existent. Having to fight Ellie and hit her was painful (not in a good way) and i couldnt take that part of the game serious. Dont forget about the unnecessary forgetable characters like Mel and the mexican guy (i even forgot his name). All in all storywise the sequel only damaged the franchise and its characters not even coming close to tlou 1. If u unlike me only bought tlou2 because of the very unsatisfying story i guess it only deserves a 3-5/10.

Really enjoyed the story, even being a big huge fan of the original. A couple of choices were confusing but overall I was happy with the way it all wrapped up.

I liked the switch in perspective, as it let you see just how the actions of Joel in the first game actually had an effect on the game world - even though the new characters can feel a little hollow at times. It would have been nice to see the other factions get fleshed out a little more towards the latter half of the game.

By no means perfect, but I really enjoyed, and the story was interesting to say the least. Really hoping that some DLC does come though, even though it doesn't look like there will be. Would be neat to see some other POV for characters or even just where the story started for characters like Lev and Yara.
