Also, in the trailers viewed for this game... Joel hads more participation than the real version. That's misleading adverstising.

The single most terrible game to ever exist in modern history. From the buildup of arguably the best first of a series game, to an absolutely devastating crash in the next, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Some complain about LGBTQ+ representation, some complain about having to play as a muscular woman. Those people are obviously ridiculous.

But then there are those who say that the message of the game is that "revenge is bad." It's, uh, way more complex than that. You don't just play as Abby to show that everyone is the hero of their own story, and that Ellie or Joel could be seen as the villain in someone else's story. You also play as Abby to see what it looks like when someone believes their violence is more justified than someone else's. Abby tells her dad that if she were the immune one, she'd want her dad to perform the operation anyway. That's noble of her, but it's not noble to kill someone in their sleep without their knowledge. She and her dad thought that act of violence was justified (it wasn't).

And so Joel thinks that killing the Fireflies and the doctor was justified (it wasn't). Abby thinks that killing Joel is justified (it wasn't). Ellie thinks that killing Abby is justified (it isn't). Abby thinks that killing Dina would be justified, because Ellie killed Mel (it isn't).

Elsewhere, Lev thinks that shaving his head is justified (it is). The Scars think that killing Lev is justified (it isn't). And so Lev stops Abby from killing Ellie. And Ellie stops herself from killing Abby. The cycle only stops when someone decides to stop.

If it didn't occur to you during the 1st game, while carrying out Joel's act of killing dozens of people, including doctors, to save one person - even if it means that you're damning everyone in the world to continue living in a zombie apocalypse, and lying to and gaslighting the person you claim to love - that this might be morally questionable, something's wrong with you.

The game never wants you to shift your loyalty to Abby and suddenly hate Ellie. The game wants to expand on the idea it left you with when Joel killed all those people - that you should question your own morality. The game makes you play as Abby while she hunts for Joel and while she attacks Ellie so that it feels BAD when you're attacking a half-dead Abby that's been roasting on a stick in the sun for a few days. Because that should feel bad! It may just be a video game, but you can still feel empathy for characters who have made mistakes. You don't have to like Abby, but you don't need to kill her.

In my experience this was one of the best games ever made. If we talk about simply graphics, this game is absolutely gorgeous. The environment, the people, everything about this game is just beautiful. There is also an INCREDIBLE amount of detail in everything. If we talk about the game play, it is basically the same as the first one, but with more. More ways to upgrade your character, more ways to play and tackle each fight. Then the story. This game does what very few other game have done, it makes you care about the antagonist. By the end of this game I had no idea who I was rooting for. I loved and felt a very deep connection with ever character. I was concerned about their well-being throughout the entirety of the story. This game was an absolute roller coaster of emotion and it is a true masterpiece. You would be seriously missing out if you skipped this one. Ignore all the hate and negative review bombing, as it is truly misplaced on this title.

I hate those people who didn't even played a single minute and are just giving this game a bad score because some streamer or youtuber said the game is bs. There is no World were u could give that game a rating under 5. A game has more than just a story iam fine with that if u have ur problems with the story but this game still has amazing graphics on a ps4, the soundtrack is amazing and game play and story. The cutscenes are movie like and the amount of detail in this incredible world is just stunning. So if u are being objective the game on itself cant have a rating under 5.

If u give the story a bad rating thats fine but u should not forget that a game consist of more than just a story. Now to my opinion i think the story is a masterpiece because it shows how revenge can lead to a lot more suffering and it creates a infinite loop of violence, madness and the spill of innocent blood.

In this World the player has no idea what right or wrong is. Everyone has his own reasons to behave like this. By gicing the player the opportunity to play the other site he or she can totally understand why they want revenge and now the player is torn apart because the Reality is much darker and deeper than u might think.

1: They destroyed every main character in the first game. Both Ellie and Joel was dumbed down for this game. Joel was very cautious about strangers. He knew he has many enemies. Yet he went with some armed unknown group of people like an idiot and said his real name out loud. Ellie was very smart in the first game. But in this, she made many dumb choices.

2: They made Ellie look like a villain who is worse than Abby. Abby who killed Joel (who saved Abby's life) spared Ellie many times like a 'jesus' (for no reason) and Ellie just came for Abby again and again like a villain.

3: Many decisions don't even make any sense. For example, When Abby learns that Ellie killed everyone else she loves, she again came for Ellie and killed Jesse and shoots Tommy. Then she spares Ellie again for no reason.

4: Ellie then again come to kill Abby after Abby spares Ellie 2 times. And in order to do so, Ellie already killed hundreds of people and again killed many people that she even didn't know. And after she met with Abby, (and lost her fingers), she realises that "ReVeNgE BaD" and spares her. WTF? Some are saying it's because the revenge cycle ended there or Lev might come for Ellie. That's just **** Because this was started because Joel killed a guy at the hospital. And Abby wanted revenge. All the people Ellie killed for this also might have close relatives who want revenge. We feel for Abby only because we know her back story. The people Ellie killed for this might have a worse backstory.

    5: Where are the Zombies?

A game like this (which many people say "walking simulator"), the story is the most important part and they destroyed the story.

There are many reasons to dislike this sequel, as many other reviews have demonstrated very clearly. It is also such a shame that defenders of the game (for whatever reason) use "attacks of diversity of LGBT" to label players who are genuinely, simply disappointed by the story itself, not anything else.
This is by no means a 0 point game, because of its beautiful graphic rendering.

This is by no means a 0 point game, because of its beautiful graphic rendering. However, this is for sure not a 10/10 game either as its predecessor. I think this game will represent the divider between the era when players trust professional game ratings, and when people only trust players reviews.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. if they rearrange some parts and fix others... it could be a masterpiece.. like change the parts of Abby to the start of the game, TO TRY, AT LEAST TRY, to get people to feel sympathetic to her... put more chemistry between Diana and Ellie, about the teenage stuff of weed... was a little CRINGEY but okay? I feel like this game was way too mainstream and that's why is soo divided, they wanted to put stuff that some people didn't like... and put stuff that other people like. The people giving negative reviews actually liked some parts of the game (like the parts with Joel)... but not the complete game, that's why you have to be open minded to play this game, this game isn't made for old fans... or even new fans... it's trying to be in the middle... and you can tell that in a lot of parts in the game.

Abby and Ellie makes a lot of bad choices.. and you the player feel that.. but you can't control any of it. It's like you are watching your character do bad actions and you command them to do those actions... without even a choice, uninstall the game or play it. The game make you feel miserable because of that, you are punished because of an action you didn't even had a choice of, makes you kill a dog, and play with the same dog with Abby. Yeah!! make the player control someone that they hate to fight the character they love... awesome!

How I'm supposed to feel sympathetic to Abby? because of a thing that happened in the first minutes of the game, everything you throw at me won't work... she is not a bad character, but I mean.. the game forces you to hate her and forces you to try.... un-hate her?

Abby just don't even try to understand why Ellie is so triggered and doesn't fell bad that she killed Joel... the character that we loved and liked died with a slow and cruel death, because Joel deserved, because he killed her father?
(her father accepted to kill the child of someone to save the world, but disregarded to accept to kill his own child to save the world)

The sex scene... really?????? at this point I just felt that this game is trying so much... SO MUCH to say I'M DIFFERENT! LOOK AT ME PLEASE!!!

The game is trying to say that revenge is bad, but it just doesn't make sense Ellie do revenge in the first point, and they try to justify that making her change... in the last second? why didn't she stayed with Diana in the first place? actually why didn't you just stayed put Ellie? because of the plot, if Ellie didn't wanted revenge then this game would not exist.... JOEL DIDN'T WANTED YOU TO DO THAT ELLIE! and i knew that from the start.. now you can't play guitar, the thing that connected you with him.. and saved the person that caused all that. Abby would die naturally... what was the point Ellie? seriously? what you are trying to prove?

This is not The Last of Us, it just doesn't fit in a single bit... this is a completely different game, with completely different characters, and completely different meaning. With that in mind you will for sure.. love this game and give it a 10/10 rating.

But if you think this is The Last of Us 2, only disappointment will come to you.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Excelent game. Graphics, gameplay, soundtrack are the best things of The Last of Us Part II. Maybe the narrative is not good at all, there are parts of the story that are irrelevant but is still a good story. I didn't put this game a perfect note, for the DAY 1 in Seattle with Abby, is so long and boring. The Last of Us Part II wants the player reach to emphatize with Abby, but (in my case) I did not reach to that point. The duration of the game is good, and it's make possible to want to play the story again.

GRAPHICS AND LEVEL DESIGN: Stunning and awesome.

    SOUNDTRACK: Just perfect.

GAMEPLAY: Better than the first part, it brings new mechanics to the game.

NARRATIVE: Joel's death was necessary for the develop of the videogame, in the first part we loved Joel and Ellie and it's obviously that we wanted to play between this characters. But from the reveal of the game, the theme of history would be Ellie's revenge, and Joel's death is the perfect cause (if Dina or Tommy died, it probably wouldn't be too hard on Ellie and the player). The game wanted to emphatize with Abby, knowing her past and the reasons that kept her to kill Joel (Abby had more reasons to kill Joel than Ellie that killed all her friends). But it´s impossible that someone gets Abby like his favorite character, she killed our favorite character and we only wanted to see her death caused by Ellie, but when she had the opportunity to conclude her journey, she wasted it. The message is clear "Revenge is bad", "Break stereotypes", "Be more inclusive" and it's ok, it's undestandable (I did not have problems with the lesbic scenes or the fact that the protagonists are women), but with all the destroys caused by Ellie, abandoned all to kill Abby, and when she was there in the moment, she couldn´t, Bad choice for part of ND.

But, it's still a good, very good videogame.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. PART 2 - I had so much to say, I have split my review into 2 parts. The first part is posted under the username “rwdyehouse.” See part one for analysis of visuals, gameplay, accessibility features, and some story elements.

After seven years of anticipation, ND gives its loyal followers a contrived, hackneyed revenge plot that isn’t even well-orchestrated. The main theme that ND hammers into the player’s head throughout the game is childishly simple: "revenge=bad." Any children's parable could have taught this lesson. And probably more effectively too, because the story-telling has major issues as well. The narrative follows the vindictive pretensions of Ellie and Abby and attempts to pontificate this "revenge is no good" theme. By the end, however, it is clear that Abby got all she wanted and lost nothing of value to her while Ellie gained nothing and lost everything of value to her. As her friends are systematically killed, Abby evinces no strong emotional reactions to their deaths and never even mentions them. In essence, as her friends die, her affect remains totally flat while her homicidal fantasies become increasingly potent, to the point where she nearly knowingly murders a pregnant woman with ZERO remorse. Revenge brings her no ill; in fact, in a cruel twist of fate, the only ill the comes her way is precipitated by her attempts to rebuild her life with the Fireflies. On the other hand, Ellie bears the full brunt of ND’s “comeuppance of vengeance,” losing every significant relationship in her life either through death or estrangement. She even loses the ability to play the guitar, the last real connection she had to Joel. The inconsistency in this narrative is jarring, displaying a contempt for another of fans’ favorite characters and undermining ND’s condescending attempts at moralizing.

Lastly, one of ND’s hallmarks was making gamers feel a connection with the characters that inhabit their fantastical worlds. The Ellie-Joel relationship is largely responsible for the success of the first game. In this game, they throw this out the window. They present gamers with a distasteful slate of static, forgettable, and unlikeable characters. In fact, many feel satisfaction as the characters from the Abby arch are murdered by Ellie and Tommy. Players harbor a special animus for Abby, the emotionless, robotic killer of Joel, a character that ND forces players to follow for half of the game, a huge risk that failed spectacularly. ND tirelessly tries to ingratiate Abby with the player, attempting to give them her side of the story. They somehow do not realize that such efforts are doomed from the start. When Abby murdered Joel, she was immediately labelled irreconcilable by many players, myself included. No amount of “seeing her side” would save her in my eyes, making her portion of the game tremendously difficult, even unplayable for some. I’m sure many experienced an acute schadenfreude as they saw her enervated and emaciated body at the end of the game; or, like me, maybe they were simply too disillusioned to care.

I could say much more here about the unconvincing story writing, dreadful character development, cheap shock-value “twists,” or about how this game essentially invalidates the ending of the first game, but I’ll leave that to others because I know there are thousands more who feel the same bitter disappointment and resentment that I do.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. PART 1 - I had so much to say, I have split my review into 2 parts. The second part is posted under the username “rwdyehousee.” See part two for additional commentary on the story.

With TLOU2, Naughty Dog (ND) promised to "subvert our expectations." Truly, they succeeded; we all expected a rich story with fantastic character development, and instead we got...well, we got this pile of junk.
But first, let's begin with two positives.
1). TLOU2’s visuals are stunning. The environments are rich and immersive, dense with foliage that characterizes a world in which nature is reclaiming its agency from humanity. The sheer detail indicates the massive commitment of time, energy, and resources that went into the creation and development of each environment in this game. In this respect, the game is incredibly successful and will surely serve as a quintessence of visual development for years to come.
2). Accessibility. ND's work here truly has revolutionary potential. The game gives you sweeping discretion to change most major aspects of the game. You can customize the difficulty in many ways, for instance, making enemies more perceptive, allies stronger, and more loot available. You can have the game explicitly indicate the direction, or even simply solve environmental puzzles if you want to advance the narrative. It gives the player tremendous power to alter (or even break) the game state, which makes the game more "accessible" (as the name suggests) to some players and can facilitate a more relaxed, fun experience for others.

A quick note on gameplay. It is in many ways reminiscent of the first game, but does afford the player more options in combat. The ability to go prone, as well as craft silencers and arrows certainly gives the player more options than the first game did. The dodge but is a nice touch, but could have been implemented more effectively and remains rather clunky. Encounters do tend to drag on unnecessarily long; in some instances enemies seem to spawn endlessly. Furthermore, the gameplay exhibits a repetitiveness and lack of novelty similar to the first game which ultimately limits its potential. Especially in the course of 25-30 hours, the gameplay can become quite stale. Nevertheless, it does retain the same value its predecessor possessed and sprinkles in some minor additions without changing the core mechanics.

However, these well-designed aspects of the game are completely overshadowed by the story, the "claim to fame" of the first game, which is in no uncertain terms a total ****
First, the death. While the death of a main character can be acceptable even to the staunchest of fans if done properly, ND failed ENTIRELY in this regard. Joel's death was unceremonious, torturous, and frankly disrespectful. Not only are the events leading to his brutal murder contrived and unimaginative, but he dies early in the game merely as a narrative device, enabling ND to pursue a revenge plot. For ND, Joel's death represents a means to an end, rather than an end in of itself. They show absolutely no regard for one of the most beloved characters of the first game, a character that fans (at least ones who did not read the leaks) were INTENTIONALLY led to believe would figure prominently in the game. Instead, we see him only in flashback sequences. The fact that the player is later forced to play as Joel's murderer only adds insult to injury, making the player seriously question whether to continue or simply put the controller down.

Furthermore, the already-burdened narrative is riddled with noticeable plot holes and oversights. Why does Abby not kill Tommy and Ellie when she has them in captivity? Her actions in the remainder of the game suggest a sociopathic misanthropy with no regard for the value of human life (more on this to follow). Clearly in any realistic setting, she would have eliminated both of them to "tie up loose ends," remarks that her compatriots offer. It makes less sense because Joel himself, at the end of the first game, kills Marlene, responding snidely to her pleas for her life, "You'd just come after her (Ellie)." Additionally, Ellie leaving the map in the aquarium after she kills two characters is similarly unrealistic. While she clearly exhibits trauma at the thought of killing a pregnant woman, surely Tommy or Jesse, who arrive moments later, would have noticed the map and grabbed it. These glaring issues add fuel to an already on-fire story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's gonna be sort of difficult to sort out my thoughts here.

Positives: Beautiful graphics, voice acting, sound design, and lighting.
Negatives: There's probably at least one flaw with every other element of the game.

Regarding Joel's death, the storyline definitely could’ve been set up differently. Calling it a plot twist is giving it too much credit. It came out of nowhere, only happened because of a coincidence, and didn’t make sense with the characters involved. The only parts of the story I fondly remember are the flashbacks with Joel.

The writers seemed to have forgotten what made the first game so remarkable, the relationships between all the characters, especially Joel and Ellie. The story would’ve been virtually the same if they found something else to preface the revenge plot, and the player would actually be satisfied by getting the story and relationship the trailers suggested they would get.

Additionally, no one wanted to see the story from Abby’s perspective because we saw her do something horrific before we ever sympathized with her. Maybe if they switched it up a little, mixed her sections in with Ellie’s, instead of ripping us out of the story we paid for/expected for 10 hours of playing the character that bludgeoned a man in front of his brother and surrogate daughter, the player could've sympathized with Abby without force.

Abby's story isn't even boring. It just rips us out of the expected story and drops us with a character we don’t sympathize with. Plus the fighting was already getting really repetitive, almost no one wanted to sit through the same journey from a different perspective with no breaks or differing fighting styles. You have to work to sympathize with Abby, something you shouldn’t have to do with a well-written story. The character was introduced as someone who kills her saviors, then you’re just expected to forget about it and fall for the blatant “feel bad for her” narrative with her dog, that zebra, and the flashbacks with her dad and Owen.

Also, everyone knew Joel was an antihero. Everyone knew he was going to die, and knew he at least partially deserved it. The issue I have with how they handled it was that they did it too early/without enough care towards the character’s values and instincts. They butchered a beloved character's values for a revenge plot that didn't even have a satisfying ending. Naughty Dog can be smart, they could’ve thought of a better way to set up the revenge plot and still have a good game.

The pacing was horrible. There was too little actual plot to stretch it out to 25 hours, so they filled in the holes with horrifically repetitive combat. They came up with very few puzzles and scarcely any unique fight sequences making every fight sequence fall short of interesting. The AI is smarter, but still quite dull and easy to fight. Fighting infected was unbearable, boring, and every kill seemed to be the same. It was so much more interesting to fight the humans. Let me repeat, bad zombies in a *zombie game*. Every time I was thrown into the dark or heard a clicker, I sighed because I knew I'd have to painstakingly kill every infected for the hundredth time. Game mechanics have barely improved since the first game, seven years ago.

They treated every character like they were as expendable as a piece of paper. Nobody reacts when their friends die, not Abby when she watches Manny get shot, not Ellie when Jesse is murdered in front of her. I'll say it again, they forgot what made the first game special, the *relationships*.

    Final Thoughts:

I came in with an open mind, excited to refamiliarize myself with the relationships and world I fell in love with during the first game. I had avoided spoilers thus far, and was coming in blind without any outside opinions. I was let down profoundly. It seems as if they came in with all these fractions of fight scenes, deaths, sympathetic moments, designs of maps, game mechanics, and other elements, decided on a 25-hour playthrough time, and then mashed them all together haphazardly. The game uses your love for the first game and trust that they'd do right by it to manipulate you into spending your money.

I will always be fond of the first game, and there are some moments that are alright to sit through in the second. I even found myself wanting to go back to specific fight scenes because they brought something fresh to the table (scenes with sniffer dogs, fighting seraphites in the foliage, trying to escape the incredibly detailed school building in Seattle, etc.). The concept of traveling across the city throughout the duration of the game could've been a brilliant concept.

But the game doesn't have any value of replayability, and the characters' decisions, behavior, and the overall plot makes me regret staying hopeful and preordering instead of just reading the spoilers and watching a playthrough.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For a game that’s been been in production for 7 years its literally a last of us skin for uncharted 4. The gameplay has had minor tweets added to it after the first game but it just stays the same boring fight after fight all game through honestly the seven years must’ve gone into forcing shock mechanic so around every corner. The story is lacking and has no point, you spend the entire game slaughtering people animals etc without remorse as we watch Ellie spiral down into a crazed kill obsessed tiresome idiot completely destroying the Ian person built up in the first game much like Joel whom isn’t reduced to this complete polar opposite to who he wasn’t in the first game, and in the end you let the person your hunting go because that’s multi tier story telling aka flopping. You then realise that the entire plot was for nothing all the killing was for nothing and all your friends that died and suffered to get you you’re revenge does so for nothing it’s all pointless. The game in a post apocalyptic environment seems to still retain all of its politics it’ll lovingly force down your throat within its world despite the majority populous being freaking plant zombies. It’s also worth pointing out that all the straight characters in the game either get slaughtered off or get beaten and acquire such injuries that they might as well be dead because it’s would be better than dealing with the outcome on their bodies. Owen is killed, Mel dead, levs sister bang, The dude that hints that he’s slept with most of the wolves women and the guy that spits on joels dead body, dead without a second thought cuz i mean with the director being a male feminist who oddly looks similar to him I guess you gotta make it so the personalities are so far apartment or kill them quickly so you can’t make the connection, Abbie’s black doctor friend well Ellie went weed hacker on her because why not she wasn’t already dying right why not make her a pile of sludge, Joel swing and a beaten corpse, Jesse the only likeable new character booom for shock value even has a kid with Dina but he mustn’t know he mustn’t it would be bad if he found out for whatever reason. Tommy is the only one that remains after it all and he has one leg fully functional and a permeant mangled face so naturally he also needs to loose his marriage on top of that because why not drive my point further. Even Abby is starved to near death after nearly being sold to slavery and thrown into these crazy situations that no one would be able to get out of. But wait what about Ellie and Dina they where treated bad too, well no Dina got her head banged a few times and sure Ellie left her but she’s has a bigger family we never see back at the town so. Ellie got beaten to near death a few times but the entirety of the game is focused around her pointless effort to be stupid so she deserves it for all the crap she puts people though for literally no reason,She leave she her perfect family years after for a second time she’s allowed to live happy, and then doesn’t kill Abby to return back home to find no one there. Should have been a standalone game for £20-30 for 20 hours of gameplay we got split With a character we hate and continue to further hate as we play her. Isn’t even worth that much of a replay there’s no replay ability value. Expand

I was gonna write a big, long, well thought out review but if would just get lost in the spam of 0/10 reviews. Ill just say a couple things. There are spoilers later on in the review.

First off I think the story is great...not perfect and maybe not quite as good as the first but I enjoyed it all the same. Its definitely not a "pile of hot garbage full of plot holes and beloved characters doing uncharacteristic things." like so many are trying to say here. It feels like people just want to forget what Joel did at the end of the first game...of course I...like many of you gladly did it...i loved Ellie just as much as him and I willingly killed all of those people...but after it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Its was incredibly selfish, disgusting, evil...yet we love him. It also seems like people are just deciding to forget how much Joel changed throughout the first game...he goes from a man paranoid of everyone and everything and rightfully so to a gentler man by the end and its because of his new connection with ellie. She teaches him to open up. To love again and by living in Jackson for 4+ years I imagine he's become even more laid back as yoh can tell that Tommy and the rest of the town of Jackson are welcoming to strangers so id assume Joel has become that way as well. I keep thinking of God of War when it comes to this point im trying to make. Aureus teaches Kratos how to love and that he can be better than the other gods. That he can do good and be good. Ellie had the same effect on Joel. I dont want to go much further in it so ill say my pros and cons quickly, say my peace about the overarching plot and get out of here.

Pros are obviously graphics, voiceacting, character animations, environments, set pieces and combat. I've already said I liked the story so its not in the list. I want to talk about combat quickly. I loved the brutal and simplistic combat of the first game and this game follows suit with some simple but great improvements. The dodge button is awesome to put it simply haha if you're like me and enjoy playing in a very realistic E3 demo kinda of style then the dodge button during brutal combat is awesome, llan and simple. Also the ability to go completely prone is a welcomed addition. That all being said i just kinda hate the encounters with infected. I didn't really like them in the first game and I don't really like it still. But thats just me. Doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the game. Okay lastly I understand people not enjoy the game but it definitely wasn't created for you to have fun. The first game was about love and this one was about hate so it definitely had a different tone and to me thats ok. This was a hard game to get through just like reading Blood Meridian is hard to do. Its depressing and violent and full of characters doing terrible things but just like Blood Meridian the final product is well worth it. The ending had me speechless just like the first game. It had me feeling so heartbroken for Ellie. So sad for what she went through and what she's cursed to live with the rest of her life. But she accepts joels death and forgets about revenge and it seems to me she is going to make joel happy by finally living and being happy and trying to move past all the trauma and death she's experienced. Although I didn't completely enjoy playing as Abby I loved what it added to the story and it wouldnt have worked without her side of things. Though I do think it dragged on far to long. The first game flew by but in a good way. This game feels like it could've been 4-5 hours shorter. I bought the game to play as ellie. Dont make me play as another character for 8 hours straight. They could've cut down abbys storyline to 4-5 hours. Definitely took a point off of the score for me, but thats my only complaint. I think the game is a near masterpiece. I wouldve probably given it a 9.5 if I could. Its as great as the first but with a completely different tone.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, lets get into the things this game does well.
This is one of the best looking games I have ever played. The visuals are nothing short of magic done by naughty dog.The gameplay is solid, although not much of an improvement over the first one.The animations are incredible, and the acting done by the cast(regardless if you like their character or not) is probably the best in the business. This game is a technical master piece, and no one can deny that.

The story, however,is what the first game did best, and what people were expecting from this game, too. I can't believe I am writing this on a naugbty dog game, developers responsible for the uncharted series and the first last of us,but the writing and the story here feels underwhelming at best. The characters, who are brilliantly acted, are poorly written. And how they treat joel is not justified at any point throughout the game. The new characters introduced are just not fleshed out.
You don't get to spend too much time with them, which means no emotional connection, which means you really don't care about the stakes.
And the absolute nonsensical decision to let you play as Abby, the girl who kills joel at thr start, just does not make sense.
They tried hard to make you sympathize with this character, but throughout her section, the chances are that you will not develop any sort of connection with her.Thats because,in my opinion, the last of us has always been about Joel and Ellie. Not just random groups of survivors. Most people will not care about this random group of people you are introduced to.They wanna play as Ellie, and progress as her.The whole section of Abby feels like an 11-12 hours of tideous side quests...and don't get me started on the island part. That island section was put there just for political agendas.
Nothing more.Adds nothing to the story, and goes on for far, far,FAR too long. And the game acts like you give one bit of damn about whats going on with these characters.
The ending is one of the most pathetically written endings I have encountered in a video game.So all in all,the story, which was supposed to be the strongest part of this game,is the weakest part of this game.
I really wanted to believe that the hate this game is getting is unnecessary,I really did.
But after playing it myself,I would say it deserves it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To start off, this game only gets points because of the graphics which are amazing, and the gameplay which builds upon the first one. That being said, it breaks my heart to say that this game sucks as far as story. I hated the way Joel died when I’m fact the selling point for me was that Joel seemed like he was going to be in the game so much more in the trailers. Then having the game force you to play as the antagonist Abby (the one who did it) made me hate it even more. At the halfway point when I started playing as Abby I immediately quit, then later started playing again to get the hopefully one part over with Until I realized that this would be the rest of the game. I did not care about her point of view at all because I found myself asking “is it over?” After every segment. After her gameplay I wanted the game to be over after having like 2 more hours of gameplay (a false ending) Then to have everything happen all for nothing was probably one the biggest gaming disappointments of my life. No exaggeration. Do not buy this game. It felt like a chore to finish this game and I only felt obligated to because I spent money on it. Biggest waste of time and money ever Expand

If you like dogs, don't play this game. It forces you to brutally murder dogs in order to progress...
The only thing worse than this game is corona. You'd be better off playing just the first part (which is actually good) and forget the second one even exists. Hands down one of the worst experiences I've had playing a game.

I'm not giving the game a 10 as I think a few parts were unnecesary and would be a definite 10 if the game had 3 o 4 hours less of gameplay from the second part.

Congrats Naughty Dog, and thank you.

To simply put it: the review bombers are pathetic. Naughty Dog has created yet another masterpiece. It’s a shame to see people pile this game with negative reviews. The narrative is only one part of what makes a game great, and Naughty Dog has achieved some amazing feats of artistic triumph with this title. Please don’t let the negative user scores dissuade you from buying this game as they almost did for me. This game wrings every bit of graphical fidelity out of the PS4 Pro. The puzzles are satisfying to solve, combat is intense without being too much for the average player, and the character models are at times so convincingly lifelike that you feel you are watching a film. They reach across the uncanny valley in a way few games can. Some people don’t like the tone of the game and will give a zero without honestly reflecting on the other aspects of it that make it a spectacular experience. Collectibles, hidden areas, upgrading your weapons, one-off interactions with other characters, finding secret caches of supplies with notes adding backstory—all of these small things make the game worth playing on their own. The story is sad, and melancholy at times, but you know what else is sad? LIFE! It’s an honest reflection of truthful emotion that doesn’t accede to the typical glass half full view of most plots in games/film. I imagine many people reacted to the famously grim dystopian novel “1984” in the same way, before realizing it’s actually a bloody masterpiece. Regardless of how you feel about the plot, giving a work of art such as this a score of zero or one is insulting to the hundreds of creators who so obviously poured their passion into crafting a living, breathing world for us to enjoy. I can’t wait for whatever Naughty Dog has in store for the next installment! Expand

The Last of us to me is a story driven game that thrives on good writing and unfortunately they could not continue this into the second game. Going into the game I was very impressed with the graphics and gameplay. It felt amazing and it was great to be back into the Joel and Ellie story. Killing off Joel was unfortunate to me and how he went out was bad writing, but it did not kill the game for me. Early on playing as Ellie I actually enjoyed the game and loved the brutal side of Ellie. It was once you took control of Abby the game went completely downhill. I remember the second the Ellie side ended and I saw myself controlling Abby I had to stop for a second because I could not believe I had to play as a character I hated so much. I personally did not enjoy playing as Abby one bit and her story was just something I was forcing myself through to see what happens with Ellie. To rub salt in the wound even more about Joels death then making us play as Abby to kill Ellie was probably one of my least favorite experiences I have ever had in any game. Every-time I was killed by Ellie as Abby i was excited and just wanted it to end. Finally towards the end of the game we got to be Ellie again hunting Abby down one last time. At this point the game already went sour, but I had hope there could be a little light left in it. Unfortunately I was completely wrong and they found a way to ruin the game even more by sparing Abby. Ellie being completely broken at the end was tough to experience and left me feeling upset and wishing I had never played the game.

    Story: 0/10
    Gameplay: 10/10
    Visuals: 10/10

Conclusion: As a Huge fan of the first game I was very disappointed and sad to see one of the best games I have ever played destroyed by such a terrible story. What made the first game so memorable to me was the story and getting so invested into Ellie and Joel only to have it ripped away from me in Part two

The visual is superb. The world is beautiful. 9.5/10 no doubt. But, hey, who would play THIS game just for some awesome visual?
Following the plot feels like the scriptwriter gently asking you, "hi, would you like have some feces in you mouth?"
"No, thanks." "Don't be shy! Here you go! I've prepared enough for everyone." You, expecting and dreaming for so many years, are now busy

Easily one of the best if not the best told stories in video game history. I empathized with the characters on both sides of the story-something a binary good versus evil environment doesn't foster. Motion capture, dialogue, emotion, meticulously recreated setting, musical inclusion- in a word, "immersive."

The ending was divisive, but made sense if you expect characters to actually grow, as opposed to acting as a vessel for your own outrage at direction choices.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
