This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An opening note: I was not spoiled prior to this game's release and, despite being a fan of the first, went in with zero expectations.

This is easily one of, if not the, best looking game I've ever played. The detail and art direction is incredible! However, it's certainly noticeable the PS4 is being pushed to its limits here and it buckles with various distracting graphical glitches throughout.

There's also plenty of new additions to the gameplay and combat which make for a visceral, tense and effective experience. The progression alongside it is also satisfying to take part in. Unfortunately there is some clunky gameplay at times (allies getting in the way, iffy dodging), particularly in the first boss fight between Ellie and Abby - which felt a little jarring in design and certainly halted the pace in an otherwise riveting confrontation.

The soundtrack is superbly emotional and exciting when it needs to be. Likewise, the performances are raw and heartfelt. The story never lets up in its ambition. The sense of scale in its settings, themes and emotions is truly admirable and truly felt like a step-up from its predecessor. Across my nearly 30 hour playtime I was enthralled and pleased to be able to experience such a vast and diverse story - from the nail-biting opening act, hearing the first whistles of the Seraphites, the horror of Seattle's ground zero, the invasion of the Seraphites island, and the emotional conclusion. All of it memorable and successfully balancing strong character drama, themes, action, horror, and excitement the whole way through.

The structure of the game effectively twisted every emotion I had. What I wanted at the beginning of the game was vastly different from what I wanted at the end of it. This is because there is true care, time and heart poured into all the characters here, most especially Ellie and Abby, who I grew to love just as much as each other. Abby especially was a difficult task to pull off, yet the more we experience with her and learn of her, the more my reluctance grew to acceptance, and finally to appreciation.

This roller coaster of perspectives, motives, flaws and strengths throughout ultimately paid off, and having become so attached to both sides of the story, Naughty Dog successfully made me feel the utter pain and tragedy of the violent cycle these characters are stuck in. Making me desperate to see some solace be found in it all, which ultimately made the conclusion all the more emotionally satisfying for me. I felt as though I found peace, just as its characters did.

To added benefit, I have never seen gameplay mechanics used to push me into such uncomfortable and reluctant places before, truly utilising and forwarding this medium's potential. And while this story and gameplay may be too daring for some, its dedication to its story and risks is never not apparent, and Naughty Dog knew to be patient and put just the right amount of time into the experience to make it work. At least for me, anyway.

All in all, this game is full of experiences, characters, themes and a story I'm sure not to forget. And I loved it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I absolutely loved the game! The game mechanics, graphics, and controls were absolutely amazing! Although there are a couple bugs in the game, they have not interrupted my experience at all. The story was phenomenal in the fact that this revenge story surprisingly had a bitter-sweet ending. The ending seemed bad at first, but with some context clues, I believe the ending was much more than it seemed. I definitely recommend everyone to play this game, but definitely play the first one before playing this one. Expand

Well the gameplay is extremely fun on the harder difficulties. The type of fun that gets your heart pumping. Except for one boss battle which was more frustrating than fun, the gameplay is phenomenal.

The story does something that I feel no other medium would be able to replicate to this fine of a degree, it forces you to empathize.

As foreign of a concept that may seem to people who just wanted to feel good playing the game, it truly makes you apart of the world that's so realistic that it took me a few days after finishing the game to process whatever that story was.
But with time, I realized how much of a masterpiece this game was.

Yes a few hiccups do exist but as a whole it is everything a game can be and then some.

This game is, without question, the most emotionally devastating story ever told in a game.

For all of those haters who decry the "politics" of the game, those people think that centering a story around LGBTQ characters is "political" rather than an a bleak, hopeless tale about real human beings. Does anyone honestly believe that there aren't LGBTQ characters in a zombie apocalypse
This game is, without question, the most emotionally devastating story ever told in a game.

For all of those haters who decry the "politics" of the game, those people think that centering a story around LGBTQ characters is "political" rather than an a bleak, hopeless tale about real human beings.

Does anyone honestly believe that there aren't LGBTQ characters in a zombie apocalypse and that their stories aren't meaningful? Apparently so...

I wish NaughtyDog would animate all of the gameplay sequences and release it as a movie. It would be an Oscar contender.

The only reason I don't give it a 10 is that they didn't innovate much on the stealth gameplay mechanics. I got a little bored with the gameplay, but couldn't stop because I needed to know how it ended.

But as a story about complicated, often unlikeable characters struggling through the worst experiences imaginable, it is a masterpiece.

It's like Game of Thrones. All the characters are flawed and trying to make the best of the worst situation. It is a meditation on revenge and the costs to one's soul.

And it forces you to play as both the protagonist and the antagonist in order to make you FEEL for their struggles and motivations.

The developers had to know that they were probably ahead of much of their audience on telling a story that revolves around LGBTQ characters and they did it anyway.

Ten years from now this game will be considered a pivotal moment in the transition from entertainment as movies to entertainment as interactive stories.

I can't count the number of times I jumped out of my chair or had to wipe down my controller because of the sweat.

A 94 score from critics and a 5.5 score from users just highlights how far our society has to come in accepting that LGBTQ characters deserve incredible stories about their struggles just as much as straight characters in literally every other game ever made.

When I read people who say the writing is bad I feel like I'm in a different universe. There are scenes in this game that literally brought tears to my eyes.

The only problem with the story is the pacing kinda sucks and things happen a little too conveniently. I actually really like Abby as a character. What an amazing game. TLoU has to me always been about characters you love doing things you hate, and there's so much of that in this game. Just an amazingly compelling narrative.

Gameplay is the same as the first one but with many improvements and more freedom, it also feels less clunky to play. An almost perfect game all in all (just a bit smoother controls would have helped)

Sucks that he died but I guess it happened and it turned out to be not as bad as i thought. The ending was a bit disappointing though, especially how the game just ends and you are left on The Farm with nothing. I took my time to play it through around 33 hours until completion.

I finished it a week ago and I can’t stop thinking about the game. So I looked at the many reviews positive and negative.

In my personal opinion some of the hot topics a certain death, a certain playable character and the overall story need discussion.

The death - didn’t have a problem with it I thought it drove the story

Abby - she was awesome, first 30 mins I was like why am I playing as Abby but I loved the change of pace and in the end I didn’t know what I wanted

Story - at the time I was so engrossed I absolutely loved the story. Upon reflection some criticisms are ok, I’m ok with Mel being pregnant for example but it was weird that she went out on patrol. Overall I think the heavy criticisms are in general not fair.

Side note - the game play is improved, graphics improved and the game is really fun. Side note - rat king was awesome.

Side note - loved the time line! For me it’s a 9 because it was close to perfect just some story holes that I was happy to overlook / didn’t notice.

The game was really disturbing and uncomfortable, I hated to play Abby, like physically hated, and I was so heartbroken after finishing the game. I still haven't coped with this feeling of grief (and it's been almost two weeks already). But no other game made me feel such strong feelings, ever, so for me it's masterpiece. The story is great, but I realized it only several days after finishing the game (after some thinking). Scars plot line didn't work for me (looked a little bit like tomb raider), so minus one point for that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Personally I really enjoyed it, and gameplay and storytelling wise, it was a definite improvement since the first game. Only real issue I found was that the final area felt rushed, unpaced or that something larger was cut due to content or time restraints. Other than that, this game was amazing. This review will very quickly summarize the first game, address this current game, and address the constant incredibly false rumors circling many gaming communities.

    This will contain [!!!!SPOILERS!!!!]

The game is a direct continuation, and the story is the complete result of Joel's decision at the end of the first "The Last of Us".

    Last Game Summary
In The Last of us 1, the story is about a man named Joel who is hired to take Ellie, who is immune to the zombie infection, to a specific set of people who would use her to make a cure for the infection, thus saving the planet. The game is mostly about Ellie and Joel bonding, and upon the end where Joel gives her up, he learns that Ellie will have to die in order to save all of humanity. Joel refuses to let her die, so he commits a brutal genocide of the innocent doctors, who are trying to save the planet, and lies to Ellie about what happened. Roll credits, to make the player really think critically about whether or not Joel was the bad guy or not.

    This Game Summary
In the Last of Us 2, It very clearly restates all that happened back to the many many people who didn't quite understand the end of the first game, who genuinely thought it was a happy ending. The story is perceived by 2 people. One is Ellie, the immune girl who Joel lied to her whole life, and who he let her live so everyone can suffer in the zombie hell hole. And Abby, the child of the cure-making, world-saving doctor who was brutally murdered by Joel. Abby on a quest for vengeance on the man who not only murdered her whole family, but also doomed all of humanity, and then to find the rest of her people, and Ellie on a quest to find her uncle and kill Abby, once Abby brutally takes revenge on Joel.

    The story and its symbolism
Both stories are reverse parrels and told in a very artist and symbolic way, causing many who didn't pay attention, have never taken a simple language class or are inept are reading between the lines, be confused or not understand it fully. Allow me to quickly summarize the basic themes.

Abby's story is one of redemption, and filled with many guilt and regret symbolism, especially as it becomes more and more apparent of her horrendous guilt he feels for Joel's murder and the fact that she really only wishes for the cycle of violence to end while trying hard to keep her composure. Her guilt toward Ellie and the realization that she caused Ellie to become similar to her in regards to revenge is a very apparent reason to why she lets her live in every single encounter. Her dreams, that appear in each day, are symbols of regret and that one day she may face her dad. Lev, Her f-m trans companion, is Abby's symbol of innocence and positivity whom she grows closer to as her redemption progresses

Ellie's is the story of anger and hate, started as an innocent girl, and ignited from Joel's death, it builds only in anger and depression. Constantly affected by her Joel/Abby related PSTD, she has constant flashbacks to Joel's death/ has intense handshakes and she pushes everyone away and seeks only violence. Dina is her symbol of innocent and positivity, who Ellie grows more cold and distant to Dina as character regresses.

    False Rumors/Statements

"There were papers in the first game that did say there were other immune children, or that the procedure would not 100% guaranteed"
The first game has no such papers. This is a simple false rumor that is incredibly easy to prove.

"Abby is trans. Male to Female, It's so obvious because she is so jacked"
This is unbelievably wrong. She is just strong.

    Conclusion
The game is great. However, if you were incredibly attached to Ellie and Joel, and honestly believed that the first last of us had a happy ending and that Joel's horrific actions were justified you may not like this game. That or if you're some moronic incel who can't play a decent game just because the MC is female

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Game play -
    - I personally really enjoyed the game play. It was a sequel so I do not really understand people wanting different game play aspects although I may be misinterpreting what they are actually complaining about.
    - They added enough features for me for it to be refreshing, but similar in most aspects.
    - I love the stealth in this game and how I can basically sneak past enemies in most situations, but having the consequence of not having looted them.
    - The fluidity of grabbing objects and quick throwing was something I have not personally experienced in any other game and I love that. (Know that I play little single player games)
    - I generally aim for platinum in story games and I will replay the game to get all of the collectibles, but I do not like collecting these things. I could really care less for cards, letters and coins, and it ruins the immersion for me. That being said, none of the collectibles had to be collected during boss fights, during chasing scenes, or places where you have to time it right. I appreciate this as I do not have to be reading Johnny's final letter of wanting a sock for Christmas. I understand that it allows for a reminder of civilization and people's old lives or whatever but I do not want to take time off exploring and fighting to be reading.
    - Each kill is so satisfying and can be so grotesque and I love it. The extended period of choking someone only to finally snap their necks is disgusting and actually makes me reflect on how desensitized I am to violence in games. That didn't stop me from completing the mission, but it did make me think (which I think was their intention).
    - Having the enemies cry out their friend's names as I kill them was a nice added touch but I did not notice it too much.

    Story - Random Order Sorry

    - I did not find the relationship between Ellie and Dina forced.
    - I loved the fact that Joel died early, as I felt just as Ellie was feeling at that moment.
    - I have never felt as the protagonist was feeling throughout the story in any other game.
    - I did not understand the whole need for there to be Dina and Ellie smoking weed.
    - I do not think that the Abby and Owen sex scene was at all necessary for the plot.
    - I felt the anger with Ellie and wanted each participant of Joel's death to die and I was satisfied enough for killing them but also felt the need for more vengeance.
    - I am a bit conflicted with the whole Abby half of the story. By the end of it, I still wanted Ellie to win the fight, but at the very least I understand Abby's anger despite me still not liking her. (Which I'm fairly certain met Naughty Dog's vision and criteria).
    - I would have preferred for there to not be a Day 1 for Abby because I found none of that day memorable. I honestly can't remember what happened then. I would have liked for Abby's story to start at the hanging scene. The main reason I feel like I forgot about Day 1 Abby is because I was still processing and waiting for the game to return to the theater as I was desperate to know what happened.
    - The whole Seth thing at the start was okay and I was fine not knowing how it happened. When we actually get to the dance scene, I found it a bit forced and odd.
    - I was initially sad that I thought Ellie had forgotten about Joel and moved on with Dina and J.J. on a farm. I was happy to know that Ellie hadn't forgotten and actually has P.T.S.D. When her previous journey was out of rage, her journey from the farm and back to Ellie was more out of desperation. The fact that she can't sleep or eat and has had episodes which can be a risk for the family, she is desperate for some sort of closure. (So my point is I like this storytelling).
    - I found it odd that after Jesse's death, and all of Abby's friend's death, they are never mentioned again. The only thing I can think of is that it is just another day in the post-apocalyptic world and that this is a normal reaction to death being so desensitized to it. Even so, I don't think it was well shown as the reason for this.
    - I am glad that some of the deaths like Jesse was quick because I do not want every character to have a dramatic death. Some of those quick deaths added to the shock value.
    - I really like the overall themes and ideas of this story. I was satisfied with beating her up at the beach, but also appreciated that she let her live because of the memory of Joel and theme of forgiveness.
    - Tommy left Jackson without Ellie to protect her. When he arrived back with Ellie and Jesse to the theater, he was content with letting Abby live, until she came back and killed Jesse, got shot in the face, and lost his relationship with Maria. By the time of the farm, he is in the same state Ellie was previously.
    Other -
    - The accessibility options in the game are of something like never before. So many options to assist visually impaired, individuals difficulty of hearing, mobility impaired, and quality of life options are a step in the right direction.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before writing, I want to make it clear, there are spoilers. Also, my opinion is my opinion. I would love to have a discussion with you as long as it stays civil. Also, my opinion really doesn’t matter, it’s the internet for gods sake! I will be splitting this into 4 parts. I’m gonna refer to choice as a big theme by the way. I liked the idea from Left Behind in part 1. 1. Joel’s Death. Ah yes, the main talking point of this game besides the ending. Joel’s death was harsh and brutal, yet deserving. Not everyone deserves a heroes death, and Joel wasn’t exactly a good person. He robbed, he smuggled, he killed, and took away humanity’s last chance for prosperity. That being said, it sucked, enough to make me cry, but it felt right, no matter how horrible it was. Nothing can be a perfect death, or a happy ending. Joel’s death and the way it happened was warranted. It tells me that this is truly the apocalypse. You can’t expect a girl like Abby who saw her father dead on the floor in the hospital to be soft and empathetic. She’s ruthless, and I love it. Now though I miss Joel, his death scene truly was heartbreaking but he surely didn’t deserve what most would call a heroic ending.

    2. Seattle

Seattle to me was beautiful, and the mini stories told there gave it life. But, to keep it short, it was fairly repetitive. Leave theater, explore, find a way through here, kill a couple of infected or bad guys, explore more, kill more, have a small encounter, such as the one with Jesse, escape dramatically, rinse and repeat. To me, I enjoyed Seattle with Abby more than Ellie. Abby’s was a lot more clever to me, and had some different encounters. 2.5
I lied, here’s a small extra part. The flashbacks, with both Abby and Ellie were outstanding. It really filled gaps I didn’t even know I had. 3. The fight scene with Ellie and Abby.

Bridging the stories together after doing two individual sections, when Abby finds the theater and takes Tommy hostage and kills Jesse, the fight scene that ensues was fun, but a little lack luster. I wish it could’ve had some choice to it. Such as, choose to be Abby or Ellie. If you choose Abby, do you kill Dina and die from QTEs or kill her and live or do neither and die? (etc.) Or can you choose Ellie and kill Abby, making the farm scene the last scene of the game. I think a little more though could’ve been put in.

3.5. I lied again. I’m gonna talk about the farm scene here instead of 4. I wish you could have some more choice here. Choose to stay with Dina or leave? I think it would’ve been interesting.

    4. Santa Barbara. The ending. Probably my favorite portion of the game. The environment is amazing. But why? As said in 3.5, why come here? Why choose to lose it all? But still, the idea is interesting. I’m gonna skip to the end of it to save time. The final fight scene was, interesting. Again, some choice here would’ve made sense. Kill Abby? Either way, the ending plays out. Ellie returns to an empty home, tries to play guitar, but can’t. The ending is heart wrenching and made me cry quite a bit. Saying how that was basically the most important, in my eyes, thing Joel ever gave Ellie. It leaves me with questions; where did Dina go? Where did Ellie go? What happened with Abby and Lev? What happened with JJ? All of these are something I want to see in a DLC or even a third game if possible.

My final rating. I give this game a 9.4/10. The game was phenomenal, and the story was amazing. To those who don’t understand the story, please think deeper than the surface. It makes so much more sense. The overwhelming urge to kill Abby and everyone there in Jackson during Joel’s death, completely extinguished as flashbacks of Joel tell Ellie to stop. This is the most powerful game I have played in years. I really do hope this game recovers from the review bombs and I hope we see a wrap up to Abby and Lev and Dina Ellie and JJ. Thank you if you read this through. I appreciate it a lot. l

Production values that suggest Naughty Dog are in a league of their own. Intense, kinetic gameplay. A polarizing story that still has me thinking, then, rethinking. Its length and story structure are questionable, but The Last of Us Part II is an experience like few others.

This review is for anyone who's actually considering whether to buy the game or not. I'll try to keep this review as spoiler-free as possible, and try to keep it as unbiased as I can, considering the **** show which is the discussion around this game.

I'll start with the obvious: this game has AMAZING graphics and art design, with some of the best environments in video games. It also has some incredible set pieces and gameplay sections. The gameplay itself isn't anything ground breaking but it's polished to a degree that makes it stand out of the crowd by just how tense and authentic it feels. Combat is intense and desperate, feel is incredible, exploration is actually rewarding and at least for me the mixing of all these elements was done incredibly and the pacing felt correct.
However, there were parts that overstayed their welcome. I would have maybe cut a few encounters and let the story progress a bit faster. On the other hand there are things I think there's not enough of: there is one surprisingly open area near the start that was very fun to explore and I thought it's a shame this didn't repeat again. This is something Naughty Dog had started doing in their games since Uncharted 4 and I really like this direction.
The character animations, the acting and the writing of dialog is top-notch and in my opinion still not matched by any other game (although RDR2 and God of War come close).

I don't think there's a lot of controversy around these points. Some people don't like the gameplay as much but it's obvious the reason this game got so many dislikes is the story, so this is what I'll address now.

This game does some things with its narrative that take a lot of balls considering its budget. It continues an overwhelmingly praised game and does it in a way probably no one would ever think it would. This was a risky move and it shows. It was never meant to appeal to everyone. But the leaks that happened before the game came out gave people a lot of time to get angry about decisions made, without letting them experience it in the proper context. This doesn't mean people would have loved it if it wasn't for the leaks, but I think the discussion around it wasn't as toxic.
Without any spoilers, the narrative tries to take the player through an emotional journey. This means that it can ONLY work if the player feels the emotions that the writers wanted them to feel, at the right moments. If the player is not in sync with the emotions the story wants them to feel, then the story just feels off. This means the story will probably not work very well for people who didn't play
or didn't like the first game. This is also why the story is built in a certain way and why there are a lot of emotional manipulations done here - the story tries its hardest to make you feel the proper emotions at the right time. Some people will see these manipulations and won't like it. I don't mind them because story is always about the manipulation of emotions. That's how Pixar movies always make us cry. It's not a cheap trick, it's a tool writers use.
I encourage anyone (who thinks they are mature enough to play this - again, this is NOT for everyone, and can be very disturbing) to give this game a try, because if you are in sync with it like I was it pays off, and you come out of it with extreme appreciation for the experience. If it doesn't, well, I did warn you... If what I said makes you worried you're not going to like it then maybe wait a bit for the price to drop.
And at the end of all, I think this is a really polished and long single player experience, with some incredible moments, and even if the story doesn't work for you like it tried to, you can still enjoy it if you like this sort of games.
I was thinking about giving it a 10 but I thought it might be an overreaction on my part, due to the amount of 0's it got. It did have some issues (like I said, mostly over stretching a few parts), so I went with a 9. All in all this doesn't matter, the score itself doesn't mean **** Read the review, try to see if what I said clicked with you or made you intrigued, and decide for yourself.

Graphically it's 10/10, new generation graphics and big improvement from The Last of Us 1. The animations were so good and very detailed.

About the story goes well until it reaches a point that becomes very long until the end. The game should have ended so much before, this doesn't mean is bad but the game should be shorter.

The final, well, I personally not liked at all, the real final should be in the Ellie vs Abby on the theatre when Abby lets Ellie and Dina lives. After that Ellie still wants revenge so years later he goes back to kill Abby in Santa Barbara. Again nobody dies, this time Ellie spares Abby's life, it's not logical at all but can be accepted because Ellie can forgive too.

General conclusion: I really enjoyed the game, such a beautiful game, I don't give it a 10/10 for that too long story and ending that left me with a strange taste in my mouth.

But, after about 40 hrs in, it almost feels a little too dark and violent. The only other negative for this game, and I’m nitpicking here,

Besides these things, this is one of the best video games ever created. Graphics = 10 Gameplay = 10 Replayability = New game plus so ☑️

The bad reviews for this game were done by people that have never played the game and were butt hurt because of the leaks. I’m almost certain about that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was fortunate enough to avoid the leaked spoilers and fully experience the game start to finish without any external knowledge of the polt's events or the opinions of others. So when I came online to discuss the game with others, I was surprised to see how much negative noise it was receiving. If you have been exposed to spoilers, I implore you to keep an open mind and play the game start to finish anyway. Anyone who plays the game with the ability to relate to characters or attempts to see the character's world from their perspective will most definitely have a far better experience overall.

*This is where the spoilers start*

Now that's out of the way, first ill say that the gameplay was very well constructed in a way that deconstructs the way the first game is played. Ellie is stealthy and crafty (proximity mines, bow focus, allways a one hit stealth kill) while Abby is more brute force and firearms focused (Can craft firearm ammo, harder hitting melee, use of firearms is more contextual). I thought this separation of gameplay was interesting, as it took advantage of the medium to demonstrate the contrast as well as the parallels these two characters share. In addition, the ability to go prone, and the increased mobility from the first game makes every encounter feel more "sandboxy" in that the player has more freedom to choose how they want to engage in the encounter. For me, the gameplay is a 10/10.

The story is bold, and when the player is forced to play as Abby, I admittedly at first was repulsed and thought the segment was going to last an hour - tops. It wasn't until crossing the crane as Abby did I start to like her as a character for going from a drone taking orders to an actual person with a heart. I wouldn't be surprised if Abby actually regrets killing Joel by the end of the game. As for Ellie, I've seen a lot of discussion arguing that Ellie killed hundreds of people to get to Abby, and that letting Abby go makes no sense because of that. However, I thought the final flashback made it rather clear that Ellie had simply realized that Abby was not responsible for a large portion of the pain she was feeling for losing Joel, but it was actually her own fault since she had spent so much time resenting Joel and pushing him out of her life, even if all he was trying to do was be a good father figure. Joel could have fallen off a cliff and Ellie would have felt the same greif, but since he was murdered, she had someone to pin all the blame for her pain on. The story is not about revenge anymore than the first game is about curing the infection; this story is about justice, and in the end, Ellie was not justified in killing Abby and chose to do the right thing. The story for me gets a 10/10.

The game loses a point for the sex scene though lmao. That was the most awkward cutscene in any game I have ever played. I think it even beats the laughing scene in FF10. At least cutscenes are skippable, so I'll let it slide.

Other than that, the game is a great overall experience. 9/10.

No one even if you were the main protagonist of the first game. The game became more beautiful and gameplay was more intense. Environment was so beautiful and combat was great. Storywise for me i understood through multiple playthrough. It made me understand that in this world there's no pure good guys nor bad guys when revenge is the main reason at first which was always never the best answer. Yes it was shocking for joel but for me in order to make progress you need to make a change. Its not always a happy ending to all games. We need to understand that this move my naughty dogs was on the right track in order to evolve a game you need to make moves even if theres a need to kill a major character its the better move instead of milking a game from previous ones. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This will be more of a rant and ramble. It is so funny seeing how so many people claimed this game to be “trash or a slap to the face”, on the day the reviews were accessible to the public. Saying the story is trash or woke is not criticism. I have taken weeks to process this game and it’s actions, it’s writing choices. This game is not as cohesive or well paced as the original. But this game offers so much more. If you go into this after Abby killed Joel saying, yeah I want to kill her so badly. The game succeeded. That is the point. Then finally when that switch happens and Abby is your main character, you lose it. You say how did Naughty dog screw this up even more? Well I’m here to say that’s exactly the point. For me this game is a test for the player. How are we so confined to our notions of what these characters are? Who they should be and how they should turn out? This is a game where if you don’t go open minded, if you let your massive ego get in the way, you will not enjoy it. Perhaps you don’t enjoy it, but understanding why things happen and seeing how they unfold, is truly seeing this game through. The best line in this game are Joel’s last words. “ Say whatever speech you have rehearsed and get this over with.” Joel knew this day would come, he didn’t know for why or when. He knew because of his past, his actions have led him to this point. We can relate to Joel and emphasize with him. But we can’t say he deserved better. It makes you understand, what if you were Abby and Joel had Murdered your father? You would do the same. And we see that this revenge has destroyed Abbys relationships. Thing is Abby learned to let go way earlier than Ellie, that is why she seems to be more in the wrong later on than Abby. The game doesn’t want you to think Ellie is bad or Abby is good. It is to make you see how they have changed at certain points. And if we empathize with Abby more, it succeeded in that endeavor. If you are rooting for Ellie to kill Abby at the end, nearly crucified and beaten, it is not crazy or stupid to say you missed the whole point of the game. The whole point of Ellie and Joel’s arks. Ellie never had redemption for her loved ones deaths. And Joel took that from her. So with him gone she believes ending Abby and her friends will help Ellie find this sense of redemption. But it doesn’t. Yes revenge is bad, but it the way this game tackles those themes that make it a wonder to sit and think about. This game could of gone in so many directions. But this one seems the most just within the world and ending of the originals. I wouldn’t say I liked how Joel died but we aren’t supposed to. If the game has payed out a foundation for what it wants to do to us and for the story, and does it better than promised I give it credit. I have never sat through credits before. For movies or games. I was left shaken, sad, it was more bitter sweet than anything. By the end you’d we that Abby has grown much more than Ellie. You see Ellie spiral down into this monster with no remorse for her foes and her Allies. She destroys her relationships. She started this quest that has killed all her friends either actually or mentally. Tommy is broken, alone, and hates Ellie. Dian leaves her. Jesse is dead. Ellie knew Dina was pregnant along time before she decided to leave to Jackson. But she had the whole time to escape. But there was Tommy to worry about. She always had an excuse for going on the revenge trail. Tommy handled himself the best in terms of dangerous encounters . We see that through the whole game. It was Tommy and Jesse that found Ellie broken in The aquarium. When we come back to the aquarium as Abby and Lev, and notice that Ellie killed Alice in the beginning I got chills. I was like damn I didn’t realize that before hand. It turns the tables and for me it worked. The graphics are easily the best anywhere. And the combat is improved on in almost every way possible. The enemy variety and melee combat is the coolest thing ever. Please play the game yourself and form your own thoughts. Don’t let this review judge how you see the game. Just take it as my opinion. Letting others form you opinion for you is weak and shows that you as a person has low intuition and a lackluster thinking process. Don’t let good or bad reviews do this. Play it for yourself. And maybe you will see that this game has mature elements to it that exceed all expectations. Expand

    The Good:
I don't understand why this game is getting so much hate. I loved every second of this game, from beginning to end, and I respect the Naughty Dogs writers and Niel Druckmann for making bold and risky decisions with TLOUP2's characters and it's story. I didn't know where the narrative was going to go next, and it truly kept me interested and wanting to know what happens in the story next. There are some truly epic and scary/tense moments in this game, where I couldn't believe how terrified I was to walk down some corridors. I also really love the new characters, and hope to see an expansion of the story for some of them. If you haven't played this game, and are solely basing that decision off of leaks, or negative reviews, I encourage you to do so and make your own opinion. Most of the negativity is coming from one single beat in the story, and this game is so much more than just that moment. And even if the story doesn't do it for you, the gameplay is a lot of fun. The combat has been much more polished since the original game, and it's seriously a blast to play. The last positive, but certainly not least, is the graphics. This game is gorgeous. Walking through the nature/fungus infested seattle is an incredible experience. Thanks to naughty dogs tech and some top notch acting, character's movement and facial animations are so life-like and really bring out all of the emotions that all the characters are going through. And the infected have never been creepier.

    The Bad:
The only negative thing I will say is that I felt that some of the game did drag a little bit between cutscenes and story events. The game wants you to explore for supplies, collectables, etc. And, while I love this and really enjoy finding journals and letters of people long gone, I can also see where this can be a chore to some. If they shortened a few of these moments and some of the filler moments of the story, I think this would have been a 10/10 for me.

    The Ugly:
I did have a bug occur twice where I fell through the floor. Wasn't game breaking and I didn't lose any progress, just an observation.

With these being said, i really liked the game. Story wise is not better than the first one, i really didn’t like playing so much with Abby and i think the end was a bit rushed but overall its an impressive game. Gameplay and graphics are probably the best ones i’ve played in any game. I totally get why people got frustrated, it happened to me, but i waited 2 weeks to make this review just to be as biased as i could. I think Naughty Dog did something that no one expected and although it was hard sometimes, they are the ones to decide where this story continues. I would totally recommend people to play the game and decide for their own what they think. Expand

I don't get all the bad raving about this game. I think it was a masterpiece, and a worthy successor to TLOU in every way. The story just happens to be dark and very realistic and reasonable.

I ended up appreciating Abby's motive more than Ellie's or Joel, and was rooting for Abby till the very end. I'm glad they didn't lol her off.

    Great game! Will play again.

This was an amazing game, but it was also intensely uncomfortable for me to play as well, which was very obviously intended on the part of Naughty Dog. Not everything they did worked and there were some major pacing issues, so it’s only a flawed masterpiece in my opinion instead of the masterpiece it could have been. 9/10. Expand

I understood most things on my first playthrough and now running a second playthrough to pick up on the things I have missed. There were a lot of callbacks to the first game and the DLC for those who didn't play the second game fully. Just like the first game, I give this a 9/10 as well. I can understand why some people do not like the game, but that shouldn't be the reason for the hate. The gameplay is phenomenal and I only encountered only one glitch that involves invisible walls over certain objects you can not shoot through. This is one of those games where you have to think about what you just experienced because there are messages and themes that you may not catch at first Give this game an honest try. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game really had me filled with as much anger Ellie possesssed for revenge. I was like everyone else at first, hating Abby, hating Joel’s death, and wanting to just plainly quit the game. It’s a story that must be played fully, and then given a lot of thought after completing. In the end I left with my own critiques and thoughts on it that are still evolving. I just really can’t get over how fractured Ellie’s character is now. The staple characters are broken or dead, and it hurts to see their stories end so quickly and viciously. That’s life I geuss. I think we all understand violence is bad, revenge is bad, and cycles that perpetuate those things need to end. We have countless stories repeating that same thing because it never ends, nobody learns. violence won’t ever end. I suppose that’s why i atleast wanted Ellie to carry out her revenge pursuit, for the same appeasement revenge stories seem to frame with positive closure. This story didn’t do that, and it was something you had to deal with, just as the characters did. All In all, i think this story can promote inner growth too in a way. Although I think all stories are meant to be reflected upon. Give it some of your critical brain juice. It’s not bad writing. It’s just not the story you’re used too. Additional commentary: I really liked the portal of a fierce lesbian protagonist. She was just a person, and not just her sexuality. We need more portals of women just being people, not boxed into some genere. It was nice to see something of myself reflected on screen. Expand

Game length is the only reason this game is a 9 and not a 10. It could have been shortened by 5 hours and this game still would have been really great. At times it was kind of a drag just traversing the world... but I would do it again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I managed to get this game while avoiding spoilers and leaks and apparently a whole controversy that took place prior to the game coming out. In the not so distant future, when we no longer live in such a politically charged world, people will be much more forgiving of the content here.

The fact of the matter is this game is top tier. Every aspect of it is amazing. Anyone with too much time on their hands, and there are a lot of them right now, can find things not to like and over-analyze, and scrutinize, anything they want. Internet trolls have been doing that with movies for nearly a decade. Now it seems games that "disrespect" their precious beloved franchises are victim too.

I'm speaking to you, troll. You are not the writer. You don't get to decide. And when did you become so soft? Wah... wah... my surrogate pappie Joel was killed... by a woman!! With muscles! Wah! Grow up, and realize that your opinion is garbage, and just keep your mouth shut, because you're revealing too much about yourself by sharing your thoughts.

Every "influencer" with a BLU microphone and a Macbook decided their opinions mattered and they got together and they cried about what could have been... etc... etc. Foul. That... is truly the most shocking thing that came out of this game.

Whew... got that off my chest. The game is great. Abby was literally my favorite character. From the moment she killed Joel I wanted to know more about her. Every time Ellie descended further downward into the spiral, I wanted to tell her to stop, I wanted her to finally put away her anger and rage. Every action has consequences, and the violence perpetuates itself in a vicious cycle. This is a game about pain, and grief, and it's not fun, but it is relevant. And okay, yeah... there are lesbians... and there is a girl who is buff, and there is a boy who used to be a girl. Is it a little close to home? That's cause it is, this is America... this is where you people live. Those "people" exist... and a lot of them played The Last of Us too. They are allowed to exist in different mediums, you pretentious, callous, cry baby. Now go wank it to your Tik-Tok videos. Goodbye.

As someone who considers the original Last of Us game the best game I've ever played, for multiple reasons; Story, game-play, and Immersion; This review is hard to write.

The game-play in The Last of Us Part II was incredible. The improvements to the user interface, the amount of craft-able materials, the behavior of the AI characters, and the level of detail in terms of level design are outstanding. I found myself very immersed in the world, worried about the enemies spotting me. The simple addition of being able to go prone and adding higher levels of vegetation to double as "cover" for the player is genius. I felt like the things i had issues with in the first game such as loosing too many arrows to them breaking, were alleviated. I find that I get more of a feel of "I don't have enough resources to build what i want to build or to get across this field of enemies". Whereas in the first game, if you took the time to search around and loot the nearby buildings, you'd find yourself full on nearly all materials. I consistently felt more immersed in the world as I would audibly cheer when i found that pair of scissors I needed to craft another set or arrows or that final container piece to craft another silencer.

In terms of story, I just don't think it holds up to the original game. HOWEVER: I do not think this game tarnishes the great reputation the first one created. As Neil Druckman said in one of his interviews pre-release of this game: The last of Us was a game about love, Part II is all about hate. I understand what other players mean when they complain about not having the "option" to make important choices in the game, but I firmly believe that in a world such as the The Last of Us, those decisions are necessary in order to survive, I do think the story would be more compelling if it was told in a different order, as you jump around in the timeline of the main characters' lives fairly often, but I can overlook that.

Overall, what I can say about this game is this: I waited nearly 7 years to play the sequel to my all-time favorite game, and I can confidently say I had a great time. While the story isn't quite up to par compared to the previous title. I truly believed that Naughty Dog captured lightning in a bottle, and to expect them to create that same feeling twice is asking a little much. The Last of Us Part II is meant to show you that even in a world post-apocalypse, there is no black or white when it comes to morality. Every person makes good decisions and terrible decisions, but it's up to you to understand that hate only creates more hate, and revenge will only get you so far.

This game will make you think about your actions, and shows you the consequences for making them.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the best looking game on PS4 right now no other game has better graphic than it. The amount of detail that went into the game is crazy you walk pass a tree with snow on it and the snow falls off the footprint in the snow or when you kill someone in water the way the blood will spread in the water looks so beautiful and realistic. I love the story of this game I think Joel got the story he deserved in this game. I think killing Joel off was the right thing to do as his story of redemption is done if they kept Joel alive and did what they did in the first game they would be milking the cow dry. I think the way Abby killed Joel was the perfect way for the story she killed him in such a brutal way that it make us as the player so angry that we want to go and kill Abby in the slowest way possible. Walking through Joel's house was one of the saddest parts of the game as we saw that Joel had a life he had hobbies. Then when we set of to Seattle to hunt down Abby and her friends we are so to kill her and her friends for what they did to joel. I like how on the way we find people who were in Jackson when Joel got killed been beaten to death by Tommy. Then as we get further on on the game and we start to kill WLF soldiers and we hear their friends crying out there names it then starts to take and emotional effect on us as we then realize all these people we are killing have a life have a family and hobbies just like joel. I love the flashback parts of the game with Ellie and Joel they were the best bits of the whole game. Then when we get to the second half of the game and we have to play as Abby I was like why God why I don't want to play as Abby but I picked up the controller and carried on playing as I started to play with Abby more and more I really started to like her and her friends and got really close to them and when we find them dead because Ellie killed them I would feel really upset about. Then when we find out that the head surgeon who Joel killed in the first game was Abby dad when then feel really bad for Abby and realize why she killed Joel in such a brutal way. I love the story of Abby and Lev on how Abby fells like now it her job to protect Lev and teach him how to stay safe in this world. Then when we got to the farm house after Abby killed Jesse and nearly killed Tommy, Dina and Ellie we then see Ellie and Dina are living in a farm house together with Dina and Jesse baby who they called JJ like most people I thought it was going to end here and Ellie and Dina would live happily ever after but then Elle goes into to shed to heard sheep up and one lamb knock over a spade and Ellie and flashback of Joel death so we learn that Joel's death is still consuming Ellie. When we saw Tommy came and visited Ellie and Dina and told Ellie about Abbie's where abouts and Dina say she not doing that anymore then later that night Ellie get ready to set off to find Abby and Dina say if she leave Dina won't be back waiting for her. I felt really sad learning that revenge has totally overthinking Ellie life. Then when we cut back to Abby and Lev and they make contact with fireflies and then they get kidnapped by rattlers and I started to worry about Thier safety then when Ellie find Abby and Lev and cut them down and we see Abby and lost her normal muscular physique and she now skinny and weak we really start to feel bad for her. Then when Ellie demand Abby that they fight to the death and put her knife to Lev throat we are like Ellie no let them go and then when Abby and Ellie start fighting even though Abby didn't want to and then when Ellie was drowning Abby and Abby bit Ellie fingers off and the as Ellie was drowning Abby and got a flashback to Joel and let Abby up to breathe and let Abby live was so happy that Ellie realize that revenge doesn't do any good all that would happen is someone would hunt Ellie to kill her for killing abby. Then when Ellie got back to the farm house and couldn't play her guitar and had a flashback to her and Joel last conservation and we learn that Ellie was going to try and forgive Joel it made me feel really sad for Ellie and we learn that Ellie biggest fear has now become true her alone now and off to Jackson to try and fix her relationship with Dina. People saying there are plot holes haven't even identified a plot hole, it confuses me, and I'm really wanting to hear some valid points without being verbally abused for enjoying something. Just because a game doesn't end with sunshine and rainbows, doesn't make it a **** show of a game. Its not dark for the sake of being dark, its a generally realistic story considering the characters and direction the first game took. It doesn't ruin the first game at all, and the characters are actually true to themselves, people thinking they know the characters better than the writers is kind of absurd. Not to mention the death threats being sent to people at Naughty Dog.

The graphics, animation, sound and music are some of the best I've seen run on a PS4, and you can tell how much effort was into the game.

I loved that TLOU2 felt very much like the first one, but with some small tweaks like improved melee combat, some new weapons, enemies and abilities. I was extremely impressed by how the difference between Abby and Elie in combat style was presented, I knew I still played the same game, but it felt totally different.

I need to say that graphics are amazing and that the mood is set very well, I really enjoyed running around that post apocalyptic world.

TLOU2 is supposed to make you feel conflicted, angry, sad and in very rare cases happy. This approach in games usually comes across as soulless cliché story, but for me this game did it just right. This game even made my girlfriend cry a few times, which not a lot of games can achieve.

Of course there are some small things that bugged me like some small bug here and there, or some of the character choices that I found rather stupid, but nothing really big.

I'm truly sad that game receives so much hate, because I don't think it deserves it. For all of those who worked on this game I just want to say that you rock and you should be proud of what you achieved and what masterpiece you helped to build. Thank you for this amazing experience.

um belo jogo, graficamente e incrível, as expressões dos personagens são muito bem feitas os detalhes de mutilações são absurdos. Trilha sonora impecável. historia muito boa e reflexiva.

I think that this game has excellent graphics. No doubt about it, but i dont know why is everyone hating it so much. I know that everyone was looking forward to play as Joel and Abby killed Joel in the second hour of the game but they make you play as her and you can see her past and story of why did she kill Joel. Maybe there could be more about her past, not just 15 minutes, but at least for me she is a good character and i understood her why did she do that. And Joel was the one who killed her father.

Lets talk about the end of the game:
If I was Ellie, i would not listen to Tommy and i would not try to kill Abby again. She had a family. But ok, understandable. She traveled to find her and thats what happened. And there, in my opinion, should be a chance to make your decision, if you want to kill her or not. I dont know what you would do, but i would have troubles making this decision.

Dont hate me for my opinion but i dont know why are people mad at the story, the last of us part 2 is not perfect i just dont think this game deserves such a hate.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
