    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here’s the thing. Everyone’s complaining about the game and the story, and I can sorta understand why. But the last of us 2 has a story. I rather liked it. It just doesn’t care if you like how the story goes, and that’s where a lot of people’s issue lies. It isn’t meant to be a happy story, it isn’t meant to be a “all nicely tied up/satisfying” story. And that’s ok. Not all story’s are happy, not all endings are. Games are stories. They tell the story they want to, regardless of wether or not it’s the story YOU wanted it to be. I think this game emphasizes that pretty well. And it doesn’t take away from the game being great. It’s a fun game, with a lot of memorable moments. People just don’t like that it isn’t the story THEY wanted. That’s all.… Expand

Like most people who loved the original, I had a moment of almost throwing my controller across the room and quitting after a specific playable character switch. Here's the thing, I'm glad I didn't. The game felt more immersive and emotional when I passed the halfway point. It's worth the FULL playthrough and has tremendous replay value.… Expand

This game is a masterpiece, the graphics, and gameplay is very smooth. The tension when you have zombies in the same room as you is frightening. The story has many turns and you to play the game more, I loved this game, and I’ve accepted that Abby isn’t a bad person, Joel made mistakes, and it was his fault he died.… Expand

But when you begin to relate to the characters and their shared experiences it made me think how I would react to these dilemmas.     Thematically, the game challenged me as a user to see each dilemma through each character. Why do Joel, Ellie, Abby, Dina, Jesse, Tommy, Yara, Lev, do what they do? Ultimately survival is key, but like I mentioned before: does everyone have to die? And what does one have to lose before they understand that some things need to be forgiven?    … Expand

    The game was absolutely beautiful. Meaning behind everything, loved the story. I was mad and sad because Joel died, but I think the story could not have been told the other way... It was an awesome tragic story and you can clearly see moral... I can literally talk about this game for hours... It only had one flaw and I'll mention that later.
    Gameplay: Lots of things were improved from it's predecessor. You can mostly decide what to do. You can fight with weapons or be sneaky. Everything is up to you. But there are consequences... The loot is good too. Not too short, not too generous.
    Graphics: Astonishing! If I did not know what platform the game was on, I'd probably think it was PS5. Ray Tracing would be so awesome in this game.
    Attention to details: The characters are alive, they aren't some stupid NPCs. Water, bullets, destruction... Awesome.
    I'm giving this game 9, not 10 because the only thing that I did not like was Joel trusting the unknown crew. He was known to be brutal in the first game and he never trusted anyone. That lack of trust saved him as well. There might be a meaning behind this as well, but Joel should not have become that person who trusts people that easily...    … Expand

    I thought it was a good game. I don't understand why people are so furious about it. So what that you have to switch between characters. I think playing it from Abbys point of view was interesting. You get to see why she did what she did and why. I can't wait to see what Naughty Dog do in part 3.

    Great combat, **** presentation, gripping story. Only thing I don’t like about it is the last chunk. I felt like the game went on a whimper. Excellent experience otherwise. 100% worth playing.

Já em termos técnico foi perfeitamente executado e os planos onde a trama se desenvolve através das cutscene proporam emoções junto com os diálogos de cada personagem de forma coerente, mostrando a personalidade de cada personagem nós fazendo apegar com cada.     Ok, I know a lot of people talked about how AWFUL the story is, but I liked it??? It’s not a “political” game, and the only problem I really had with it was the pacing, which felt kinda clunky and was a little too long. Gameplay and visuals are amazing, a really fun experience.

I was indifferent about playing as the person that killed Joel, but as you go through the story and learn about Abby's background, you can't help but empathise with her and come to like her.

    My only gripe, and why I gave it one less than perfect, is a positive for most people; as a casual gamer, the length of the game was on the long side for me.    … Expand

Allthough the way game switches it's protagonists is really sudden and not much immersive, eventually it makes story deeper, the characters even more human and it shows how sick and purposeless spiral of death Joel started at the end of part one is.… Expand

    It's a wonderful game every ps4 player should play. Yes it's controversial but it shouldn't be criticized just for that. The game its a continuation to Ellie's story and it's fine. It's a shame people don't appreciate the game and just give a bad rating.

The acting is nuanced and realistic, and sound effects sound natural. Story is very interesting and emotional, with lots of unique characters that experience various hardships and traumatic experiences, and characters motivations aren't just black and white.     The controversial second installment to the Last of Us is not without it's drawbacks. Gameplay is excellent, the acting is amazing, the music and visuals are breathtaking. The story is engaging but heartbreaking. It trades character development for a focus on narrative themes. It's a story that asks you to empathize with the antagonist rarely seen in other stories. It's a story of a woman who learns to forgive herself, albeit a bit too late.

    I'd recommend playing through and choosing for yourself what you think. The lack of character development is noticeable and frustrating. But I think it still works for the overall themes of the game.    … Expand

    I wanted to wait till I finished the game before I reviewed it. After the end of the story I found myself comforted by the fact Naughty Dog stuck to what they knew when telling a story but also improving on the gameplay mechanics of the first one.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game had an almost insurmountable task of following the first, but manages to do so in an unexpected and innovative way. Gameplay, graphics, and sound are as impressive as the first, and shows a natural evolution despite some predictable human A.I. The story structure was completely unique. The revenge cliche still feels like a slight drawback, but the way it’s done makes it so much more than that. Perhaps even more than the first, this is a game of consequences. It’s about different experiences from different perspectives. How Joel’s choices impacted Ellie’s and Abby’s, into how Abby’s impacts Ellie’s, and how Ellie’s impacts Abby’s. There’s no one to root for in this game, and that will leave a bad taste in some peoples mouths. I feel like Ellie killing Abby May have been a more logical ending, though it has left me wondering what’s next for these characters. This is a complicated story that will hit each player differently. 9.5/10… Expand

Its like movies where the climax didn't turn out like you expected but so many are critically acclaimed.Instead it took a dark turn. But playing this game was one of the best things I have ever done. If you feel you can't tolerate playing as cold or heartless people, gruesome zombies, ext violence then you must not even touch it. And if you have played Last of us part 1, I know you hoped for a positive directions or found so many loop holes, but i guess it made sense to me. You have to really take it as a game and enjoy. There are so many theories explanations given in podcast by the game creators and actors. So see them and understand. Experience this game gives is not like anyother. Love it or hate it.. but it is one of the top games to be played for ps4.… Expand

And I've raved about it to friends and got them to play. This one is more of a 'you have to play' if you played the 1st, but be prepared for a gut punch, and don't expect a happy ending. But I guess that's life. AndJust finished, and so many emotions. For me the saddest thing is it's not something I think I will ever want to play again.     This was a fantastic game and one that every PS4 owner should play. The gameplay was rich and fast paced with an unconventional and inclusive story. It was every bit as harrowing as the last, if not more so - I genuinely found myself recoiling in some scenes with my moral compass spinning. Truly an uncomfortable masterpiece!

    This game was incredible. I've played it twice now and always pick up on new things, have new dialogue options, and enjoy it more each time. The accessibility options are amazing. The story had me on the edge of my seat the entire game.

I decided to wait, until I’d played it a second time to post. Now here I am over a year later and I have played this game multiple times through, I have platinumed it on PS4, and I can honestly say I have thought about this game every day since I first played it. I frequently listen to the sound track, love podcasts that talk about it, reviews, and each time I finish the game I am already planning how long to wait until I play it again. The only reason it’s a 9 and not a 10 is personally, i thought some of the open areas (although beautiful and fun to play) slowed the game pace down a bit too much. I have come to really love all the characters, despite how much heartache this game still causes me, and I can’t wait to see what Naughty Dog and Neil have instore for the future.… Expand

    Juegazo. Lo he diafrutado mucho, mis sentimientos han cambiado de forma drástica durante el juego, y es el primero que consigue eso. La historia es muy buena, naughty dog se arriesgó mucho con esta trama, que es muy distinta de los juegos habituales. La gente simplemente se queda con lo que pasa en las primeras 3h de juego. Tiene muy buenos gráficos y una jugabilidad increible.

    This game is an emotional rollercoaster. With playing both characters arcs seperately, you will start to understand the actions of both Abby and Ellie. And if you don't feel it, get as confused, angry, sad, desperate as the characters, you didn't understand the game. Bravo Naughty Dog!

    Foi bem tenso, a história, a gemeplay, conhecer todos os personagens e saber o que acontece com eles no decorrer do jogo. Foi um desafio desvendar as emoções enquanto jogava. O final, ainda mastigando e movendo o que foi achado. Ótimo jogo! Tem tanto a se falar dele ainda, em diversos e diversos aspectos.

Everything over these past 7 years set this game up to be one of the greatest. However, the almost universal critical acclaim of the first game and the subsequent anticipation as we waited for this game to come out lead only to disappointment. As a stand alone game this would have been fantastic, and a true classic. As the successor to what is, in my humble opinion, the greatest storytelling experience of my life, the loss of some crucial storytelling elements were it’s downfall.     Let me first start with this. I actually enjoyed playing TLOU2. It was a great experience and I loved seeing the new game mechanics, characters and infected that were implemented.

    [STORY]

    I think it's safe to say that a few things should've been different. Even though the story is beautiful, it has its flaws.

    This is how it should have been in my opinion:

    You start the game as Abby, making her way to Jackson. Without the player know why their going there, they come across obstacles and other survives. You get to play the flashbacks of her father and everything.
    Slowly along the way you get to hints to why you are going to Jackson.

    Then, you find Joel and Tommy and make your way to the villa. And the cut-scene starts. Maybe ending at: Abby: That's 'cause they have

    Following this you start to play as Ellie in Jackson, doing the patrol and eventually ending up at the villa. Here you see Joel's death.

    From here on out the game is like it is now, you go on the hunt for Abby.

    [ENDING]

    I'm not sure how I feel about the ending of the game. Its good that Ellie realizes what she is doing, but it doesn't make sense that she does after killing hundreds of people.

    And its a good ending in a way, but it is extremely sad to see Ellie in the end with nothing left.

    So in a way i agree with the ending and I also don't.

    [CHARACTERS]

    I've seen a few reviews about people being mad that the game has been made about #MeToo and feminism.
    I don't mind the orientation or anything about the characters. But having all main characters female and have a strong characteristic: Gay, Transgender, Hulk. makes it feel kind of forced in my opinion.
    I feel like the characters would have been better with Abby being more realistic, more like Tess...
    This would have made a difference in other people's opinions I think.

    Just a little thing about the music. The music is good, but the music of the first game was waaaay better.

    As you can probably tell by my review, I feel like the story and characters could have been better.

    BUT... I do think Naughty Dog made an amazing game. I think that they achieved something, just look at the emotional reactions everyone is giving.

    So again the story is good, because its very emotional. But it should have been different
    The characters are okay, but could have been different.
    And game play wise, it was amazing. Loved the level design and enemies.

    The storyline it's really good but it has it's flaw's, there's a lot of the story that tend to depend on the imagination of the player and their own perspective and that's a great thing but it can also be bad.

    Missed a 10 of 10 because film grain on 4k Oled tv makes me mad. Everything else is just perfect. I enjoyed 35 hours of that beautiful and catching game.

The game is a once in a life experience, people usually don't like games when they are not the thing that they don't expected, but The Last of Us Part 2 is a innovating histories. Being real brave Naughty Dog tries to come with the cliche revenge history but bringing with it a total controversy, showing the villain side of the story, the courage to show to the players that the villain is not a bad person and neither the hero, brings to the players, that had empathy, a total shake of feelings of sadness and guilty, by knowing that both Abby and Ellie shouldn't die or suffer no longer at the end.
    The game brings the same gameplay, but improved, making a game adapt to the new players. The AI in the game has been improved in a way that you can fell the blame of killing someone and really getting into this apocalyptic world. The game brings new and unicc enemies that give the gameplay diversity and more immersion. The contrast between Serafits and Wolfe's make the fitting in the game seems more realistic and heavy to you to play.
    The game brought so much controversy because of the people who don't like homosexual representative on games and by the people who couldn't have empathy for Abby and just thought that showing her side wouldn't make them like her, but like the famous dictate "The villain, is the hero of his Story".    … Expand

    Graphics are great, the game runs most of the time in a very good way. Unfortunately there are a few error in the coalition points to interact with objects and the environment, which make it necessary some times to change your position, move forward and back, get on your knees or play with camera to be able to interact with stuff, it is pretty annoying some times, but it is not such a big deal. Even with some weak aspects (as everything in a complex lore such this one), the story is interesting and have the great advantage that is not a fanservice story, what lead you to feel and experiment new possibilities, get a long with some characters, hate other ones and get to know motivations and even empathize with some of them. This is the kind of videogame you really need to play to be able to understand and literally feel the story videos sequences, because a very complex and complete videogame whose experience is unique and is made by a whole thing: music, graphics, story and gameplay.
    I think, Naughty Dog made it again: a perfect synergy between a game and a story that need to play and feel by yourself.

    I have to say something about the negative reviews. There are some that are clearly just angry that there are LGBT characters. Then there are those who claim to be upset about the story, and give the game a score of 3 or less... it is ridiculous reason to give a game of this quality such a low score because the story isn't perfect (to you). There are games with patently awful but still fun, and if they lose points, they lose only a few. Don't like the story? Give it a 7/10. Really don't like the story? You're crazy — because it is fantastic — but OK, give it a 5/10. Don't like the story because a main character dies? Grow up, you loved that in Game of Thrones. Giving it a 3, or a 2, or a 1, shows that criticism of the story is nothing but thinly veiled homophobia.    … Expand

    The game is incredible, the graphics and the animations are incredible, considering that is running in a ps4, and the story is not the best but it's still a really good one and I liked the way they tell the story, it has a few mistakes but nothing that ruins the game experience. Definitely an enjoyable game.

The soundtrack is epic the way the game looks is truly beautiful and the story was intense, we loved it more than the first one to us this felt more real and at times we loved and hated both characters for wh,at they did, at one point we even discussed if Joel was the villain! . Seriously though what a game and experience however we decided on 9/10 because at some bits we felt grabbing resources out of drawers and off the sides was a little to much this time around and slightly took away from the flow of things, for us anways, but it more than made up for it in other areas.… Expand

The greatest criticisms I read of the game were that Ellie becomes someone unrecognizable from who she'd been in the first game, that the violence is gratuitous, and that the violence and struggle depicted in the game is not justified by the ending. I actually agree with all of these statements. What I don't agree with is the idea that these three facets of the game are it's failures. I understand why they upset people, but ultimately I feel that these characteristics were integral parts of an intentional tragedy rather than a function of poor storytelling.

    In the first game we watch as a young Ellie becomes more thoughtful and withdrawn while grappling with the violence of the world around her. In the second, we play as an adult Ellie that we only really come to understand through flashbacks sprinkled throughout the game. You are not supposed to fully understand Ellie's motivations, forcing you to question them and her decisions throughout the game when you want to be agreeing with her. This is compounded as Ellie makes more and more questionable decisions as the game continues, and as you are forced to experience the fallout of those decisions both from her perspective and the perspective of those she's fighting. You start off wanting to root for her, but by the end of her time in Seattle, the best you can do is hope she makes it out alive. It is painful to watch a character you love and are invested in become almost unrecognizable to you because of her own decisions. Tragic, but not poorly written.

    I do not consider myself someone who has many reservations about violence in storytelling; my dislike of horror movies having more to do with contrived plots than gore. Yet, the endless tension and violence of this game was emotionally exhausting in ways I anticipated, but was still not prepared for. Just when you think you're almost done, you have to play through it all over again working against those you're rooting for while knowing the ultimate futility of your actions. It was enough to make me want to put down the controller and stop playing, but just reading a summary online wouldn't have been satisfying enough and everything the game had made me go through up to that point would have been for nothing. So I keep playing and pushed through the violence and struggle to gain some closure. This, I imagine, is exactly the feeling that keep Ellie and Abby on their path's of revenge. It's not that I was unaware that the game was trying to draw these parallels between Abby and Ellie, it would be pretty hard not to be, but the success with which they were able to draw parallels between what I as the player was feeling and what they as the two playable characters on opposite sides of a conflict were feeling, is pretty damn impressive. This game is the single best example of the strengths of video games as a medium in story telling that I can think of. The first game introduces the idea of cycles of violence as something that the world is stuck in, the second game shows you one of these cycles in action. The gratuity of the violence is emblematic of the cycles of it they find themselves in, and their willfully ignorant perpetuation of it feels tragic rather than thoughtless.

    Ellie and Abby's motivations are eventually revealed to parallel each other, and while Ellie's character development continues to parallel Abby's in her self destructive quest for revenge, Abby's character development slowly shifts to parallel Joel's. The final climax comes with Ellie finding Abby in Santa Barbara and Abby refusing to fight, but when her young charge is threatened she ultimately fights and disfigures Ellie in a decision that loosely parallels Joel's choice to kill the fireflies. Yet when confronted with the opportunity to get revenge on the person who killed her father, as Abby was at the beginning of the game, Ellie makes a different choice. Some seem to view this as a failure on Ellie's part, or as a failure on the writer's part. That if Ellie could choose not to kill Abby, then she could have just as easily chosen not to go after Abby the second time, or the first time, or that Abby could have chosen no to go after Joel in the first place. If the cycles of violence that were used to justify Joel's choices, and the choice of a soldier to open fire on him and Sarah can be opted out of, then doesn't that render every death, every loss, every difficult choice made in the series meaningless? Yeah. Yeah, it does, but not because Abby was allowed to live, but because all of it was already meaningless. Ellie's choice just opened our eyes to that fact.

    There are many reasons not to enjoy a game, and I can understand why the ones discussed here could tarnish your enjoyment of this one and even the series as a whole. But questions of enjoyment and quality are separate and regardless of whether I would call this game enjoyable, it's certainly not lacking in quality.    … Expand

The truth is that we all can't have a hero's death. And Joel definitely isn't a hero. There had to be consequences for his actions, and he got what was coming for him.     The only thing I didn't completely love was the gameplay. It's pretty much the same as the first and I hated the task of rummaging around environments to salvage supplies and collectables. It takes up so much time and it's so boring walk along every empty store shelf while mashing triangle to pick up anything you happen to intersect with. There's an accessibility setting which helps make this a little bit easier, but it's still morbidly time-consuming. I'm certain the game would be 30% shorter if we didn't have to do something so mundane.

    Now, here's where your opinion may differ from mine: I loved the story. It's clear that they took a huge risk with it. They really could have just played it safe and followed the theme of the first title, but decided to take a different route which nobody expected. It's pretty clear from the reviews that fans are completely split on that decision. Personally, I did not expect to be sent on such a roller coaster and I enjoyed the ride from start to finish. Definitely a breath of fresh air compared to other sequels with predictable and redundant plots. With a series like this, you just can't please everyone.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
