    A chic game worthy of the title of the best game of the decade. not 10 because it did not live up to my fan expectations, but my expectations are my problems. Fascinating diverse gameplay, excellent combat, a lot of craft and interesting skills. Many options for passing despite the linearity of the game.

Когда первый раз проходил, не хотелось играть за Эбби, хотелось увидеть финал. Но проходя 2 раз я ей проникся, может даже больше, чем Элли. Лев и Яра очень милые! Дина - чудо! Томми....его голос, я получал аудиальный оргазм. Джесс нудноват, но хороший друг. Эволюция Джоэла обратно в человека, такого каким он был до смерти Сары - очень порадовало. Понравилось, что он не сдал назад, и Элли его не сломала в плане выбора: нужно было её спасать или нет. Их последний разговор - шедеврален и мил. Я в восторге от игры! Спасибо Ноти дог!!! We get to see Ellie grown up, using Joel's influence to forge her own path. We get to understand Abby's motivations as well. This story is all about the search for Vengeance, and how well it fits in a post-outbreak world, that is to say, not very well. If you feel torn up at the end, good, that is how you were meant to feel. These times change us all, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. The ultimate lesson is to do something valuable with the time you have left. Thank you.… Expand

    esse jogo é simplesmente fantástico, mexeu comigo de várias formas, e as acessibilidades de modificar a dificuldade e como os inimigos se comunicam entre si é fantástico, mas o que não me agradou foi o fato da campanha da Abby ser um pouquinho tediosa, mas de resto é muito bom, as técnicas de combate, os gráficos e a movimentação está ótima

    In my opinion this game is a masterpiece. Amazing graphics and amazing animations. From gameplay side this game is almost perfect. But the story ahhh how can I say, The game doing what it wants. Game wants me to hate character than it wants us to love. And it did it. Game succeeds what it wants. Best game I have ever played since 2019

    Amazing gameplay and solid story line. A few parts of the story line were a little far fetched but for the most part true to the original game. A definite must for those who love story driven horror/post-apocalyptic games

    It was a truly great experience. I can’t believe that I liked this part much more than a previous. Guys, thank you for amazing job you did. I’m delighted with plot, characters and atmosphere.
    9/10 cause sometimes the gameplay was a little boring to me :) But it’s ok

    No entiendo las malas críticas, además, si os fijáis en los trofeos, solo menos del 40% se ha pasado el juego. Para mí la gente que no completa un juego si criterio no es válido.

    To rattle off some bits;

    -This game is dense with content, with a length probably twice that of the previous game. Despite this, I never felt that things were dragging on for too long or inundated with filler.

    -The controls have been pleasantly polished, feeling less stiff than the original. They even added a dodge which comes in handy when dealing with infected. Like the original, the shooting feels great, and all the guns have a satisfying punch to them.

    -Environments are a lot less linear now, with a smattering of optional side paths, encounters, and puzzles.

    -The puzzles have been expanded on in terms of variety from the first game, with more platforming, rope swinging, and window breaking. The shiv doors from the original have been replaced with the previously mentioned optional puzzles as well as safes with codes hidden in the environment, so don't worry about using shivs this time around.

    -Upgrading your weapons and abilities have gone through a sort of switch. Gone are tool boxes, so all weapon upgrades are available from the start (so long as you have enough scrap), but now you need magazines to get more ability upgrades. I'd say this is an improvement because you need a bench to upgrade a weapon (and there aren't that many benches), while you can upgrade abilities anywhere.

    -Stealth has also been expanded, with tall grass being an option when trying to hide from human enemies. If you do get spotted, you can always run, as human enemies will lose track of you if you break line of sight (clickers not so much). You can also go prone, which I dismissed at first but found surprisingly useful when trying to get around ranged foes.

    -I'll avoid spoilers, but the narrative is really engaging overall and does a good job of getting you in the head-space of who you're playing as and see where they're coming from. Be warned, this game goes to some dark, heart wrenching places, but leaves you with a lot to think about.

    -This would be a 10/10, but I docked a point because the first zone of the game after the tutorial is this free roaming section that feels a bit too slow compared to the rest of the game, which I think could make a bad first impression (looking at you Pat). There are also a few too many walking sections that could have been cut down, but that's a minor gripe against an overall fantastic game.

    - I also miss the multiplayer ( ; A ; )

    If you really enjoyed the first game, I'd highly suggest you pick this one up.    … Expand

    El juego a mi me encanto, tanto como la jugabilidad, lo grafico y la historia, en la historia hay cosas que mejorar pero a mi me gusto bastante la historia, en el gameplay es un poco tedioso en las partes de buscar loot, por lo menos en el modo superviviente es asi, pero despues en todo lo demas es increible el gameplay, lo recomiendo bastante, lo disfrute como si fuera el tlou 1 :)

The game is truly unique in gameplay, graphics, lightning and story, and it's a pinnacle of this generation of consoles. I was waiting for this game A LOT and my expectations were very high (I bought the PS3 because of the original The Last of Us). Nonetheless, the game met my expectations. The only major problem that the game has is, in my opinion, HOW the story is told, and I mean the order and the pacing through which the game and the story present themselves. Sometimes, the tension and the pacing just drop down, interrupting a climax (for example when we switch from Ellie's point of view to Abby's). Moreover, I think that presenting both Abby's and Ellie's story chronologically by alternating and rotating between their points of views on a daily basis would have brought a greater experience and a deeper attachments to Abby's friends. Instead, in the way the game is presented, it's really hard to get attached to characters like Owen, for example, because we already know that Ellie is going to kill him in a few days. Apart from the pacing and the order the game is told, the game is a masterpiece and went for something completely different from the previous chapter, something that didn't please many users. I won't say what this game excels in, because we all already know. Oh, and I played the game twice and playing through Ellie's part the second time makes you understand better a lot of things, like for example, when WLF members are talking about searching for someone who escaped (which we know is Abby only after switching to Abby's part), or when WLF members talk about a sniper killing all their men (we know that sniper is Tommy only when we switch to Abby's part). This is another outcome of their narrative choice of telling first Ellie's point and view and THEN Abby's one.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm not someone that ever writes reviews for games, so i think the fact that I'm taking the time to write this speaks of itself a little bit. The last of us was my favourite game, I loved the characters and I loved the complexities of their stories and personalities. The first game questioned the morals of all the groups encountered and provided some insight into Joel's history and implied his grey moral area. Joel was not a hero, he was just the protagonist. When he dies in part 2, I had to pause the game to stop myself from having a full blown panic attack, and my vision was blurry from rage. I wanted Abby to die immediately and painfully, but by the end of the game, I desperately did not want Ellie to kill her. I've never had a game not only consider the morals of the "villain" but then completely change my viewpoint and empathy. The story wasn't about revenge against Abby anyway, she was a distraction for ours and Ellie's grief and turmoil. Ellie hadn't forgiven Joel for the fireflies, and he died before she could so her emotions was redirected to killing Abby. I don't think she was out of character. I also don't think the plot holes were nearly as bad as some people think they are. The characters made "stupid" decisions because they are written as human beings, who, shockingly, make stupid decisions! I'm not saying its a perfect game, and if you didn't like it then you're well within your right, but I do feel sorry for you that you can't appreciate this game for what it is.… Expand

All the backlash is the same issue as the Star Wars sequels, complaining fanboys that didn’t get the story THEY wanted, so they’re complaining. This game also works real life social issues into it in a tasteful way that isn’t shoved down your throat. Playing this can actually teach people something.… Expand

    I hate this game but I also love it. I never played anything like it and I never experienced something that toyed with my emotions this much. I love the characters and I can’t wait for part 3. I just hope it doesn’t toy with my emotions as much.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. “if i ever were to lose you, i’d surely lose myself” — a masterpiece, and an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. i was skeptical about the story when i saw the leaks, but they do not do this game justice. it may be set in the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse but this is at it’s core a game about loss, revenge, redemption and coping. joel’s death is brutal, but it is necessary. not everyone gets a hero’s death, especially when they aren’t really a hero. it is a testament to the skill of the writers that within the first 10 minutes of learning the story of joel’s killer, i immediately sympathised with her, and loved her by the end. this game tells the story of two women who have lost or pushed away everything they held dear — yet, neither of them is right or wrong, good or bad. they are both consumed by revenge, which slowly chips away at their humanity. what makes this worthwhile is the moments where their eroding humanity still shines through - ellie’s relationships with dina, jj, and jesse and abby’s relationships with yara, lev and owen. the lengths their hatred makes them go to in their respective paths can be frustrating and heartbreaking to watch, but the conclusion it reaches at the end of its 30 hours of gameplay is haunting and beautiful. it will stick with me for a long time.

    the gameplay is a big step up from the first. movement and combat is quicker and more fluid, there is a larger variety of weapons and crafting options, and there are a variety of ways to approach any combat situation. all enemies are smarter this time around, and the infected are scarier than ever. the environment of every chapter is much more varied, each accompanied with a fitting soundtrack and atmosphere to match. areas are generally larger than the first game which is good; but can be overwhelming if you’re a completionist who likes to scour every nook and cranny for supplies or collectibles. don’t miss out. this game is an essential experience for any gamer, especially those who fell in love with the world and with joel and ellie in TLOU1.    … Expand

    Phenomenal. Tells an admittedly divisive story, but if you go into it with an open mind there is a better chance you will enjoy it. It is not at all like the first game, it's much darker, more violent, less cheerful. A very devastating story. Gameplay and graphics are top notch and extremely enjoyable, especially on harder difficulties. I loved it.

The way he was killed was supposed to make the player feel angry, disgusted, and emotional. In the world of the last of us, there are no villains or heroes. People die in tragic ways and it's not something anyone deserves. It was the artist's intent to make the player feel that way. I understand people want their characters to die in a heroic way but this is not one of those games. The game is a roller coaster of emotions and there will be people who appreciate the game more than others. That’s how life is. The gameplay is phenomenal and I recommend players to play it on "survivor" because it makes the game brutal and difficult. The graphics are gorgeous and I played it on my 4k tv and I was immersed in the scenery. The music by Gustavo is masterful! I have the 3d audio headphones and my experience was amazing. One of my biggest flaws is pacing after the first half. I felt detached from the experience a little. I recommend taking breaks because the game is long. It took me 29hrs to beat this game and I found many interesting moments that many players could miss if you do not explore. Overall, to me, it wasn't a story about revenge. It was about forgiveness and loss. Joel dies early in the game but the game is still about him. Whether you hate or love the game you cannot deny how it made you feel.… Expand

Это не шедевр игроиндустрии, однако все же Нил Дракман (как и вся студия Naughty Dog) проделал замечательную работу. Я допускаю что сюжет в игре может кому-то не понравится, но все же он великолепен. Сразу стоит оговориться, что половина игры за Эбби имеет право на жизнь, если принять условие данное игрой. Лично я принял обстоятельство игры за Эбби и даже получал удовольствие от игры. В особенности мне понравились скорее второстепенные персонажи, которых Эбби встречает, чем сама Эбби. И тут стоит немного поговорить о структуре игры за неё.
    Во-первых, Эбби это явное отражение Джоэла из Первой части. И в этом, как мне кажется, и кроется главная проблема игры за неё - она пуста. Пуста на столько же, насколько в начале пуст Джоэл. Но разница Эбби и Джоэла заключается в их спутниках. Лев сам по себе очень сильно напоминает Элли из конца игры, когда они уже дошли до Больницы. И это главная проблема игры - поворот с пощадой Элли не работает на полную. Игра за Эбби - это примерно как игра за Джоэла в конце игры, только растянуть её до 10~ часов. Это просто уныло.
    Однако это моя единственная претензия к игре, потому что во всем остальном - это шедевр поколения, игра которая точно принесет вам ураган эмоций.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Having only played part 1 of this franchise about 3 years ago, i did not have to wait as long as a lot of other fans. Those 3 years were filled with pure excitement, anticipation and, of course, impatience. I absolutely loved part 1. It nestled its way close to my heart, and part 2 is no different. I put almost 32 hours into this game and I loved every single second of it. The story was nothing I could have ever expected. When they revealed that the doctor Joel had killed, was Abby's father I audibly gasped. I have smiled and shed tears throughout the whole game. Happiness and sadness were both prominent. Not to mention relief. I absolutely hated Ellie for leaving the farm, for leaving the seemingly perfect life she had with Dina and JJ, but I knew she had to go after Abby again. I felt it coming but still hated it. The Ellie boss fight was one of the hardest battles I had ever had to fight, or so I thought. The final fight against Abby certainly takes that spot. I cannot describe how desperate I was for Ellie to stop fighting. Every punch she landed made me sick to my stomach. I didn't want her to kill Abby so I just kept making her dodge Abby's punches, hoping the game would somehow sense that she, that I, didn't want any of this happening. Relief coursed through my body when Ellie stopped, realising that killing Abby would amount to an even greater loss. In the end, letting Abby live was what Ellie needed the most, which we can conclude when looking at Ellie's journal when she visits the farm again. This was one hell of a game and I applaud anyone involved in the making of it. No game, or any other type of media, is ever perfect but this game comes incredibly close. Here's to more games like this, and maybe a part 3 someday, please?… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. En cuanto a gráficos, ambientación, MÚSICA! (Un capo Gustavo Santaolalla, un honor que pertenescas a mi país), yo diría que es de lo mejor que ví. Los escenarios son épicos, desde el paisaje nevado hasta Santa Bárbara.
    Ahora mi problema con el juego y con la mayoría de la gente es la historia. Me pareció que en duración tenía unas 10 horas de más (sobre todo la parte de Abby). Otra cosa es es que hay personajes desaprovechados, cómo son Jesse y Dina (la más sosa de todos los personajes). Y la muerte de Joel se me hizo muy rápida y súper forzada, podrían haberlo matado unas horas después. De todas formas el juego me gustó mucho, yo diría que es obligatorio jugarlo. El final no me pareció malo como la mayoría de la gente piensa, más bien me pareció un final duro y que no es para todos.De los mejores juegos de la generación.    … Expand

    Sin duda unos de los mejores juegos jamas creado, una pena las malas criticas de parte de los jugadores parece que no entendieron nada, naughty dog ha querido ir mas alla de lo habitual y la gente lo desprecia por eso.
    Una cosa es que no te haya gustado, pero decir que el juego es una mierda por eso es ser idiota.

    The game was worth every penny. A continuation that lives up to it. Of course, we were sad for Joel, but the whole of the work itself makes us reflect a lot. Gameplay a lot, graphics too. A game that will be scored.

Игра понравилась , это не та история от которой игроки будут кричать ВАУ , но в целом разработчики как по мне , смогли донести смысл сюжета , не все конечно поймут после концовки но все же и не справедливо поливать ее говном . Подача сюжета не всем понравится , но очевидно ясно о чем она , она нам рассказывает как Элли не успела сказать Джоэлу насколько он дорог ей и вот это чувство недосказанности будет ее преследовать всю жизнь. Думаю все же эта игра не совсем про месть как вам будет казаться , игра скорее всего нас учит тому что надо ценить близких вам людей потому что в любой момент их может не стать и вы не успеете им сказать то что вы к ним чувствовали .     Level Design: Much less linear than the first game, the moments in which you are in combat are done remarkably well. There are many more moments of tense gunfights both against the living as well as the dead compared to the first game, and these rarely feel stale thanks to the options when it comes to engaging your opponent, whether that be "guns blazing," stealth, or avoiding the enemy. Score: 10

    Graphics: Best in the industry. That's it. That's the paragraph. Score: 10

    Story: This is not what the average toxic fanboy wanted - a typical revenge story. Instead, this is a story with complex motives and reasonings as well as characters who each follow their own beliefs. As it is a sequel, it is difficult to flesh out the development for the characters like it would be in the original IP, however, Naughty Dog did well directing those moments in flashback sequences. Pacing is an area of the game that struggles. There are often moments where you may be overwhelmed with the slog of tasks to do as you struggle from place to place in Seattle - this is the game's weakest point, in my opinion, giving you multiple false endings before the satisfying real one. While the pacing was tough to overlook, the end made it all worth it. Score: 9

They could have made these into cut scenes, but they didn't. The game intentionally makes you do it. Which will make you feel bad. Certainly doesn't mean the game itself is bad! That would be like saying the movie Schindler's List is bad because it made people sad and angry.

    I actually played it. It's really good. And it's quite the heart breaker.

    TLOU Part II and and "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" are a good sign, that the industry is FINALLY moving towards more mature and complex themes (no, not just revenge) about broken characters in a broken world.

    There will always be games that are... easy on the mind with a clear antagonist and where the player gets to be a force of good and I enjoy these games very much too. But I'm very fond of what Naughty Dog has done here and I hope they will continue to craft such compelling narratives and don't get discouraged by some very loud and vocal haters, who are hung up on their favorite characters not being AWESOME but instead being disappointing human beings.

    Of course there will be people who simply don't like the game because they wanted another romp through the US with their favorite characters, which is not quite what will happen.... or they simply didn't enjoy the story and all that is fine. (see the mixed reviews) But it's quite clear that this game got review bombed by a lot of people who did not play the game and very likely aren't even old enough to be allowed to play this game and/or experienced enough to appreciate the themes it presents.

    Thank you to everyone at Naughty Dog for making this incredible game, even if it was a serious downer most of the time.

    PS:
    The shotgun in this game is incredible. It's the most satisfying and crunchy weapon I have ever wielded in any game, including EVERY Doom game, including the double barrel shotgun. They way it messes people (infected or not) up will make you giggle, no matter how many shooters you have played in your lifetime.    … Expand

    Los graficos fueron perfectos para esta generación, tanto en las cinematicas y en el gameplay se podian notar los grandes detalles que se habian puesto, esto es un punto muy fuerte porque estan graficas fueron excelentes para esta generación de consolas.. (10/10)

    -Jugabilidad
    La jugabilidad es lo mejor de este juego, dando vida a todos sus personajes y enemigos, con unas muy buenas mecánicas de juego,un excelente trabajo por parte de ND, una jugabilidad que te enamora de del gameplay. (10/10)

    -Mapa
    Si es cierto, este juego no es de mundo abierto, cada mapa que nos presentan en las misiones son mundos grades , mundos donde te muestran como la vida a través de este virus ha cambiado, mapas grandes y llenos de detalles, donde cada loot vale la pena, sin duda cada mapa que nos presentan es bueno, buenos lugares que valen la pena explorar.     -Historia
    Para poder evaluar esta historia lo dividiré en la historia de Abby y la historia de Ellie
    En la historia de Ellie: todos queríamos la venganza al ver a Joel morir, en esta historia vimos varios personajes, esta historia me pareció genial, al igual que todos los flashbacks fueron geniales, pudimos ver transcurso que pasaron juntos Ellie y Joel después de el primer juego y esto es genial, pudimos ver su relación, y la razón la cual Ellie sintió tanto odio hacia los que mataron a Joel.
    Abby: en el caso de Abby, nos quisieron hacer simpatizar con ella, lo cual para muchos no resultó, y yo pienso que para empatizar con ella hubiera sido mejor ver su pasado con su familia, con su papá para poder entender la búsqueda de Joel, y la razón de que su muerte, con el personaje de Abby pudieron haber hecho una gran historia, por odio de flashbacks pero no aprovecharon esta oportunidad, lo que si vimos es la evolución de su personaje, antes eras una persona la cual no dudaba en matar y la era una mala persona a después que pudimos ver como cambia su perspectiva y su punto de vista.
    Hay que añadir que hubo personajes secundarios geniales, como Dina, o Owen, personajes con los cuales te familiarizas y sientes importancia hacia ellos y en esta parte lo hicieron perfecto, hicieron que muchos de sus personajes secundarios no se sintieran como relleno, aunque hubo muchos otros que si se sintieron como relleno.
    La muerte de Joel: el como murió Joel me parece bien, en esta saga de dos juegos ningún personaje ha tenido una muerte digna o gloriosa, y no hay porque hacer excepciones, lo único que no me pareció bueno es que no hayan matado de una forma tan temprana, tal vez un poco después estaría bien matarlo, pero al inicio cuando solo ha salido en dos escenas me parece un gran error.
    El final: El final no es un final alegre pero tampoco es un final triste, es un final realista, un final que nos deja impactados, en el cual te muestran la razón del porque Ellie perdonó a Abby,te muestran que Ellie nunca perdonó a Joel en su ultima platica, Ellie claramente sentía toda esta culpa, y gracias a todo este viaje aprendió a perdonar a las personas.
    En el primer juego nuestro objetivo era llevar a Ellie para crear una cura, y no se cumplió; en esta segunda entrega el objetivo era matar a Abby y no se cumplió, porque ambos juegos nos dejan una enseñanza y algo por lo cual reflexionar.
    Este final personalmente me encantó, y que este juego sea realista en su historia, y que nos haya entregado algo maduro me encanta. (8/10)

    Сюжет гениальностью хоть и не блещет, но тоже интересен. Переживаешь сначала за Элли, её чувства от потери Джоэла, потом за её психику после череды убийств, видишь, как она становится монстром и теряет себя от жажды мести. Эбби сначала была неприятна, первое время так и хотелось её нарочно скидывать с высоты и отдавать щелкунам на съеденье. Но потом понимаешь и её мотивацию. Тронули её отношения с Левом и то, как она преодолела свои кошмары после смерти отца. Но, к сожалению, все эти чувства не сравнятся с опытом первой части. Не дотянули, чего-то не хватило. Возможно, это из-за чрезмерного распыления на кучу персонажей и невозможность полностью переживать им, их смерть не цепляет как должна. Или из-за рванного повествования от лица Элли и Эбби. Хотелось немного больше, чтоб проникнуться.
    Но игра в целом всё равно заслуживает если не 10, то твёрдую 8 точно    … Expand

    Not as great of a master piece like the first one was, but, still, very far from the piece of trash a lot of people are claiming it to be.
    It is a very good game with astonishing graphics and an arguably perfect gameplay. But the overall narrative doesn't stand to it's predecessor.
    Would give an 8.5/10 but in this case I'll prefer to round it 0.5 up instead of down.

    i really enjoyed this game! played it with my friend and it took us about 19 hours to complete, but we missed a lot of exploring. it has its faults but is still an enjoyable game! the gameplay is amazing and i would definitely recommend it to anyone

I think most people didn’t give this game a chance to tell its story after Joel’s death,Trust me even I was Mad when joel died but this universe is a dark world and everyone is just trying to survive. For me this deserves game of the year as i see no other game which made feel this way it was a roller coaster of emotions , The story telling of this game was a very bold move they could have gone the easy way out and made it a happy ending but naughty dog always does the unthinkable which is question ourselves xD. The first game ending made us have alot of questions and soo does the second part as well. Dont know if i really want a third part but in naughty dog i trust!

The epitome of “there are two sides to every story.” As usual, Naughty Dog are not shy when it comes to pushing the boundaries of story telling. The game makes you question the actions of characters you once thought were good, and consider the actions of characters you once thought were bad.

If you’re on the fence at least rent or borrow it before listening to the negative reviews theres a lot of backlash from biggots.     It isn't perfect, but neither is the first game. Incredible story telling, incredible art. The buildup of anxiety and jumping from intense scene to intense scene leaves you feeling like an emotional punching bag. Also, ND says Trans Rights!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game isn’t about revenge. It isn’t about hate. And it sure as hell is not the story we as fans wanted told but instead is the story that needed to be told.

    The last of us part two is about love. The type of love that consumes you and blinds you, you nearly lose yourself in it. Just like saving Ellie was Joel’s redemption in part one, that single momentous act that brings him back from the brink... going after Joel’s killer is Ellie’s undoing. You see her go through this journey backwards as she slowly becomes the very monster she’s trying to kill.

    On the flip side, you have Abby. Playing as Ellie fills you with rage towards this woman, you want nothing more than to make her pay. Playing as Abby, on the other hand... ND does something tremendous here, something absolutely insane, and you know what? It works. Walking a mile in Abby’s shoes (literally) makes you understand her motivations, playing as Abby four years ago, seeing how young and happy and innocent she is (sound familiar?) with her dad makes you yearn for the life you know Ellie and Joel could have had. This whole two sides of the same coin is illustrated so beautifully you just know, in some other timeline Abby and Ellie could have been friends.

    You walk a path with Abby where she questions all of her motives, all of her loyalties, to save these two kids from enemy tribes. The parallels between Abby/Lev and Joel/Ellie are unmistakable and completely intentional.

    There’s so much more I could say about this but you need to experience it for yourself to truly understand the depth and thought and absolute consideration that was put into every single moment of this game.

    This wasn’t the story I wanted, not but a mile, but it was the story that needed to be told. If all you took from this story is a generic “revenge is bad” or you’re left feeling a festering pain because you *didn’t* get revenge then you.... completely missed the point of the first game which lays the groundwork for part two. After all, didn’t Joel also have one single objective throughout all of part one only to not go through with it at the last minute?    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had much to say at around the 3 hour mark of the game, but I refuse to review a game unless I have completed at least a single play through. The game is nearly 40+ hours, depending on if you, like me, like to search every nook and cranny. I finally completed the game and am left with many, many swirling thoughts. First off, I must applaud the gameplay, game mechanics, graphics, environment, music, mo-cap animations, voice acting; all of these are fantastic. The first thing that amazed me was stepping into a pool of blood and walking into the snow - bloody footprints! The details are much appreciated, like Ellie putting on her hood when it rains. Oh, and the effort they put in to simulate the guitar chords and notes by strumming/picking the touchpad? Genius! But let’s get back to the 3 hour mark. It’s here where we realize, whether we like it or not, video game stories and narratives have really evolved in the past decade. No longer are our protagonists invincible. The way the story is told here has intent to mislead us in many ways, but also weaves a path for us to understand things by showing us tidbits of information in a certain order, which is not chronological. We are filled with anger at first, just like in reality where we deal with emotions. As we play through Ellie’s story, we destroy everything in our path for vengeance. Initial emotions justify all our actions. The narrative changes perspectives midway through the game to show you Abby. Her story is shown to you through her eyes and (depending on the audience, you, of course, but hopefully M for Mature, right?) you can’t help but start to realize that she’s not the person you thought she was. In fact, Abby is getting revenge for her own father’s death. We learn that she’s a normal girl with a good heart and even she soon realizes that Isaac and the WLF’s goals are just insane. We’re playing with dogs in her storyline instead of shooting them. Then the game brings us to the supposed finale of Ellie and Abby’s encounter - before Abby is able to succumb to spiraling down the toxic path of anger and vengeance, Lev is able to utter just her name and she stops. It is here that Abby redeems herself. Lev can be seen as Abby’s light and support. Ellie, on the other hand, unfortunately does not have that. After seeing all the cutscenes, we learn that Ellie was about to repair her and Joel’s relationship, but the path to that forgiveness was stripped from her the following day. With Joel gone, Ellie’s only link to her purpose in life is also extinguished. Blaming Joel for taking her meaning of life away when he decided that she gets to live has made her so angry she bursts out that she’ll never forgive him. And now the chance is gone. So we learn that the anger not only stemmed from vengeance, but also at herself, for not being able to forgive Joel when she had the chance. In the true ending, Ellie finally lets go of that anger when she takes her hands off Abby. She envisions an image of Joel - this is the same Joel in the flashback we soon see, when she starts to make amends with him. It’s here when we believe that she truly forgives him for his decision, thus allowing her to let go of her anger. In the final depressing scene at the farmhouse, you witness everything that Ellie has lost during her path of vengeance; Jesse(did no one grieve him?) Overall, the narrative is definitely all over the place (similar to this review?), but it was intentionally told the way it is to set you in the path of how the game wanted you to feel in the first place. Our anger was with Ellie in the first half of the game. True anger. That could have only been possible, to share such anger with Ellie, is for her (and us) to lose someone we loved for years. The story, unlike many other games, reflects upon reality, where the fact is that we can lose someone at a moment’s notice, unable to do anything about it, and sometimes is, unfortunately, a grim and undignified death. I wonder how the game would have played if we were to see everything in chronological order? We might not have the same experience. Kudos for many Asians in game, whether good or bad. There are several people claiming that there are giant plot holes in the game, and from the ones that I have read most of these "plot holes" come from characters' decisions. Most of these character decisions are ones that stem from character growth and empathy. You can trace every questionable decision made by the characters to experiences along the way, questions they've had, people that they have interacted with that have changed their perspective. This game is about confronting challenges, and questioning opinions you may have had before, and I think a lot of people weren't happy with that. It makes YOU question how you feel about the situations in the game, the same way the characters have to question how they feel.

    As for the "political agenda," this game really doesn't shove anything down your throat. While there may be some characters in the game that are different, that's all they are: different. The only way it's going to bother you is if the idea itself bothers you. They have a backstory and then that's where that "agenda," ends. I understand why people get upset with politics invading their media but if that's what people think this is, then they are just being too sensitive.

    So if you're reading this, wondering if the game is good or not, wondering if you should try it or not, I would say block out the noise, have an open mind to things not going how you'd expect, and enjoy a really well written experience.    … Expand

Although I did prefer the first game overall, there is no question to me that this is objectively one of the best games on this generation of consoles. Subjectively, of course people might like or dislike some elements of the game (whether from a gameplay or story standpoint), but there is no way this is objectively rated "average" at a 5, let alone a 0. I'd say people rating this a 5 or below are not acting in good faith (or have not played enough games in their life to know what a mediocre game really looks like), and the "0" reviews should entirely be discarded (alternatively, any user review posted on the day of the release should probably have been prevented or deleted by metacritic. The game itself takes 25h to finish)

    The Last of Us 2 has flaws (although they in my opinion don't prevent it from being an excellent game) Gameplay wise, I'd agree that the stealth aspects of the game feel a bit dated for example. Story wise, I'm sure a lot of things could have been told differently, although I won't pretend I'd know how.

    I could discuss at length the many qualities and issues of the game, but a lot of critics, professional or otherwise, have done a better job at it than I ever would. What I can say is that after finishing the game, I felt empty and extremely sad, but in a good way, if that makes sense. Basically there are not that many video games that can make me feel connected to the characters in such a strong way. "Life is Strange" comes to mind, and TLOU1, of course. As such, I'd say this game was a huge hit for me. I know I will still be thinking about this experience 10 years from now.

    Not a 10/10, because 10 to me was TloU1, and I don't think #2 beats it in my heart, but definitely one of the best games on PS4 as far as I'm concerned. Super disappointed that the review bombing has been preventing adult discussions on the flaws and merits of the game.    … Expand

    I don't think I have ever played a game that made me feel so many emotions. It's an engaging game with bold storytelling and compelling characters. I have a few issues with pacing and some decisions made, but that doesn't take away from the whole.

Once you finish TLOU2, you will feel an irrepressible urge to discuss and revisit it with your friends or with the wider world. It will stay in your mind for years.

    Do ignore all the hullabaloo about the game being “political” or having an agenda. Everything is political. TLOU1 also was. Depending on your ideological standpoint, you may consider the game’s morals progressive, reactionary or even cynical or nihilistic. Such ambiguity, rarely found in this medium, makes for exceptional storytelling and elevates TLOU2 above your run-of-the-mill games.

    All the technical achievements you would expect from a highly awaited AAA game are here: the extraordinary visuals, the deeply moving soundtrack (Gustavo Santaolalla will deservedly win many awards for it), the impeccable acting/dialogues and the efficient if not too creative gameplay.

    The reasons why I don’t give TLOU2 a perfect 10 are its occasionally repetitive exploration mechanics, which sometimes clog the pacing, especially the endless need to search every corner of every room for supplies; and a few questionably rushed storyline choices in the second half of the game.

    Still, this is an absolute must-play that will be enjoyed and debated for generations to come. I hope NaughtyDog and Neil Druckmann will someday release a third instalment, no matter how many years it takes to develop it.    … Expand

    Brilliant game! I put in about 26hrs. Was it better than the first one? Graphics, gameplay - yes. Story - probably not. I thought at times the story was probably stretched a bit, but this was probably one of the few games out there that I actually kept going for more. I really liked the idea of playing the different perspectives. Once again an amazing job done by Naughty Dog!

It's risky and largely works except for the odd occasion where some of its gameplay choices don't quite gel with its story concept. Killing Joel in the first 2 hours was supposed to make you angry and make you feel how Ellie was feeling. The gameplay is amazing and is very satisfying. Having you play as Abby in the second half of the game is supposed to make you feel bad for Abby and see that what Joel did was not heroic. He wiped the fireflys out to save one person. The only thing I have against it is forcing you to play as Abby in the first fight between Abby and Ellie… Expand

    The gameplay has improved a lot giving you more freedom and with more complex and chaotic maps . Really detailed how every weapon affects an enemy .
    The ost is really good and kicks in the right moments . The content in this game is massive but the pacing of it is a little slow in the first part .
    The story of this game takes some risks but it's one of the vest of this gen for sure.

If you are coming from the first game in the series, the gameplay from Last of Us Part to Part 2 is the only thing that you will be familiar with. The story is not in the same 4 part structure as the first one. The game takes twice as long and with it comes more surprises. The Rat King fight comes at you out of nowhere and I was sweating in fear. That's how immersed I was in this game. The origin story of the WLF and Seraphites is incredibly interesting (Rattlers not so much....). I think the story told might be divisive as you are simply playing out the decisions that your character makes, but you won't come out of the game regretting you played it.… Expand

You have to experience the game for yourself and can't listen to the leaks or the 0/10 reviews. You can't even listen to the 10/10 reviews, experience it for yourself.

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.
