The story is terrible, there is an attempt at "revenge is bad" but it just completely misses the target, I would rather them have made a spin off so they can shove these insufferable new characters down our throat but I suppose the only way this game was ever going to succeed was if they added a shock value. Avoid this game at all cost. Expand

This game is one that any fan of The Last of Us should experience, first hand.

Some minor pacing issues, and the violence might be a little much for some people.

I give this game a solid 9 out of 10. It is no zero, that is for sure!

From dense forests, to the beautiful snowcapped mountains of Wyoming, this game is beautiful every step of the way. Story wise however, is another story. After seeing the most beloved character of our series get beaten with a golf club, and then playing as the character who killed him doesnt sit right with many. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have never written a review for a game before, but after completing TLOU2, I felt compelled to dispute the overwhelmingly negative reviews on this website

First and foremost, I am a HUGE fan of the first game - I would rate it in my top 3 games of all time. I am a fan of storytelling games and narratives with an emotional punch, so getting to watch the dynamic between Joel and Ellie play out was an enormously satisfying experience. Like many, I was extremely disappointed to learn (from the leaks) about Joel's demise. However, I decided to give Naughty Dog the benefit of the doubt and I could not be happier that I did not listen to the all the negative criticism and left my evaluation until after experiencing the game for myself

This game is a MASTERPIECE. Most of the reviewers who claim the story is terrible seem to nitpick at idiosyncratic elements of the game (Why is Abby so buff? How come Joel didn't know he was walking into a trap?) and have completely missed the greater theme of the narrative. Joel's death served as a key catalyst to drive a true emotional investment in Ellie's story. I felt deeply invested in her bloodlust and single-minded desire to extract revenge. But then Naughty Dog used multiple clever narrative tools to slowly change my - the player's - perception of Ellie's quest. Dinah and Lev served as foils to better illustrate the futility and cost of Ellie and Abby's actions. Abby - and her own story of loss and lack of purpose and agency - was the mirror coin to Ellie. In addition to humanizing the enemy, her story made me truly feel the horrific cost of Ellie's rampage. Even the gameplay itself served to exhaust the player, giving you little to no respite between fights, giving the NPCs names, making stealth kills brutal and gruesome.

I have never played a game that made me feel almost exactly the same as the main character - first her loss, then her anger, then her pain and exhaustion, and finally, as she sat on the beach emotionally numb and drained, the emptiness from the futility of her pursuit of revenge as a way to fill the gap from her loss of agency. This is a story about a girl who had her purpose in life stolen away from her just as she was finding a new purpose in life, and the personal journey she had to take to realize that an endless cycle of violence would never plug that hole in her.
The journey I took with Ellie and Abby felt intensely personal, and although I still haven't recovered enough to fully understand and digest all my thoughts from this experience, I can say for a fact that I thoroughly enjoyed the process. There are a hundred vanilla games out there where the story is straightforward and vanilla, and the hero gets to ride off into the sunset in the end, and if that's what you're looking for then yes, this game is NOT for you. But what is a story-driven video game really? It is a chance to live a life and immerse yourself in someone else's story, one that you could never experience in your own reality. To artificially experience feelings - revenge, anger, loss, triumph - that you can't conjure from your daily circumstance.

If you want to LIVE a story, FEEL what the characters feel, and emerge from the other side better for it, then please do give this game a try.

The motivations of the characters and their 'I am right' attitude and their aims for revenge is like nothing else I've ever experienced in a game, in places the game feels like more than just a game, it feels like a combination of everything that is good about movies, or how books can delve into characters back stories in much more depth, plus the things you can only do in a video game to make something really important that raises the bar (just like they did with the first game) to make a completely unforgettable experience.

It's a shame that user reviews are so low due to people being unable to accept the incredible and extremely ambitious story Naughty Dog set out to tell and seemingly can't accept that the fate of certain characters was destined to end the way they did.

I had TLOU: Remastered on PS4, because of what a masterpiece the original game was I was cautious about the sequel. The new Druckmann led crew at ND clearly has hijacked the game to push a social justice agenda. This is bad on its own as its essentially a form of propaganda eroding the genuine artistry of the medium.

The real shame is that they lost the skill in crafting a good plot or telling a compelling story. This is a very common outcome in propaganda driven "art". ND delivered a boring, unpleasant experience and ruined one of the greatest gaming IPs. If only Amy Hennig was still in charge.

The majority of game is filled up with plot holes. It’s characters, their decisions and therefore the overall story feels extremely forced. Somewhere in this mess was potential for a great story, but unfortunately it is bogged down by unnecessary side plots and baffling character choices.

Unfortunately, the graphics are not enough to save this game from itself. There is hardly any improvement in game play (not a noticeable generational leap), the AI sucks and enemies are reused often and most of the game is walking doing nothing. The game play loop just gets straight up boring.

You are dropped into linear levels with roaming enemies that are very dumb. Early on in the game you are treated to a wide open area that feels more free roam, but its an illusion that doesn't last long and is not repeated.

This game killed the first part in a very disrespectful way. Terrible story, with characters which remind me of some hipster emotional low budget drama movie.

I really don't get how all those reviewers brought this game up to a 95. The most overrated game this generation. The "critic" reviews are either fake or the reviewers are too fearful for their jobs to say how generic the game-play is and how terribly the story and characters are written. It is like a snuff film disguised as Oscar bait.

I literally hated playing the game. A story driven game with a terrible story is terminal. Given the technical polish of the game it could be argued that the game deserves a higher rating. However since I hated every second of playing this game, the only way to give it a higher rating is to say that torturing yourself with a game (a device meant for passing free time) is somehow a good thing (if it serves some kind of nebulous artistic or higher purpose). This is nonsense.

My rating is accordant to the enjoyment I received from this game; specifically a 0.

I have to admit like many people I was upset and angered by the death of Joel, it felt stupid and out of character for him, but then I realised that of course it’s out of character for him, he has been living in Jackson with Ellie and his brother for years now. Both of these people would have changed Joel’s perspective on the world and he would have stopped being so cynical and untrusting. The fact that I was so angered by his death and so shocked by how it went down just shows that naughty dog knew exactly what they were doing and the story just gets better after that, we follow Ellie on a story of revenge, and during that story we see glimpses into her past with Joel and the reasoning for why she wants to do this. However during the story we see that she regrets some of the actions she makes and it’s incredibly to see a protagonist really wonder if what she did was right. Halfway through the game comes the most controversial part, we get to play as the “villain” Abby. And like a lot of people I wasn’t very thrilled about the idea of playing half the game as this character however throughout her story we learn the reason to why she killed Joel and also find out that she is just as good a person as we believe Ellie to be. However the boss fight against Ellie was still very hard to do and I did not want to do it as like many others I love her character. But the side as Abby was very interesting and gave some insight into her character which helped the story a lot. The best part of the game for me was the ending. It showed that Ellie quest for revenge lost her many people in her life and she even realised that Abby was not worth killing, overall it was a very well done story of revenge and how it can be wrong. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us: Part II took me some time to come to terms with. Gameplay wise, its very much the same as TLoU1. Which in my mind is one of the sequels failings as innovation is important. The game, and its predecessor aren't necessarily about the game play, however, which brings me to the meat of my thoughts: the story.

I knew from the beginning, from the first minute I took control over Abby, what the game's story wanted to accomplish. For most of the game it didn't work on me. The game wants you to sympathize with Abby. To understand why she killed Joel and possibly even agree with her decision; but for someone who has played through Part 1, I couldn’t do it. That combined with the game's insistence on trying to make you feel appalled by Ellie's killing of the enemies laid before her, despite nearly all of them attacking her first and forcing her to defend herself or be killed and despite Ellie herself reacting with disgust and panic in two instances at the cruelty she commits. Instead, I found myself rooting for Ellie more and more the longer the game went on.

Then halfway through it switches us into Abby's shoes once again. I was furious. Not in the least because the idea of several days – my usual turn around was slowed by being bound to my wife's schedule as she wanted to experience the game’s story with me – of progress erased so I could see the side of the story of a character I hated infuriated me and admittedly led to me resenting the sections with Abby. This resentment only got worse as the game humanized her through the introduction of Yara and Lev while failing to have her show any kind of reaction or remorse to the things she does – save for one miss able line to Lev about erasing guilt – unlike Ellie. By the end of Abby’s sections, I honestly didn’t feel sympathy for her. Her entire section only served to highlight her negative aspects as much as it humanized her. Best exemplified by the contrast between Abby and Ellies actions against Dina and Mel, respectively. When Ellie unknowingly killed the pregnant Mel in self-defense, she vomits and falls into panic due to her actions. When Abby is presented with the same choice, but knowingly, she is giddy at the idea of killing the pregnant Dina to hurt Ellie like Ellie hurt her. Abby is only stopped by Lev yelling at her for the near action.

The game then continues to hammer home how much revenge is ruining Ellie’s life in the sections dealing with her home life. She suffers from severe PTSD caused by Joel’s death. Unable to sleep or find true closure without making Abby pay. The segment is – in my opinion – very well done and made my wife and I hurt for Ellie; begging her to forget about Abby when Tommy offers her a second chance at vengeance, despite knowing fully well she can’t bring herself to. Meanwhile, Abby is in a relatively good place when we see her again before being captured by the Rattlers. This lack of equality is the crux of my issues with the Last of Us: Part II.

The game makes it abundantly clear that revenge is bad. It destroys Ellie’s life; but seemingly only for Ellie. Abby kills Joel in the beginning, fulfilling her revenge. When Ellie comes to take vengeance on Abby, Abby wins again – despite losing a few friends (many of which she would have lost anyway due to her own actions against the WLF) and leaves with Lev to find a better life. Come the ending Abby is in poor condition due to something entirely unrelated to revenge and has seemingly moved on with her life while Ellie is devastated. In the end, Ellie nearly crosses a line in pursuit of vengeance. Threatening to kill an innocent to get her revenge on an emaciated woman who doesn’t even want to fight. Sparing Abby completes Ellie’s emotional arc, finally allowing herself to let go of the drive for vengeance. Letting herself move on with grief and eventually acceptance in a way she’d never be able to achieve if she’d killed Abby on the beach. It is the blatant lack of equality in the fact that Abby receives no karmic rebuttal unlike Ellie – who suffers viciously both physically and emotionally over the game for her revenge. What we are left with is a game that only half-sells its otherwise beautiful message.

    -Fantastic Graphic
-Gameplay barely different to the first game, which was ok, but wasn't the biggest fan of it already then, exspected a bigger change and improvement
-Characters: in my opinion ruined the characters from the first game (Ellie & Joel) and added a new main character (Abby) nobody cares about
-Story: tries to force you onto Abby's story and changes your opinion of Ellie in a negative way; has so many unnecessary scenes especially in Abby's part, which will just lengthen the game; horrible pacing of the story overall and the switch between abby's and ellis's story could have been done in so many way better; a lot of loopholes and things that don't make sense
-ending: probably one of the worst i've seen in a long time

My real rating would be between 6 and 7, I think. This game in no way is a perfect 10, not even close. But it is still closer to a 10 than a zero, and zero is a ridiculous rating. Those who give it a zero have never played a truly horrible game. I respect that many people felt betrayed because of what happens at the beginning of the game, but I also feel like people have to try and be fair in their rating, not just rating the game at zero because of that one thing that made them see red (even though I admit that that part was a big deal, and something I think they should not have done).
I played the first game on PS3 and loved. One of my all time favorite games. I would rate that game between 9 and 10.
The weakest link for me in The Last of Us 2 is the story. I would call it "Meh...", and did certain parts piss me off? Yes. There is one part that pisses me off, which is also the event that sets up the entire rest of the story in the game. And I believe this part is one of the biggest reason for people rating the game at zero.
But beyond that part, the story to me is just... Fine. It's not great, it's not horrible, it's just fine.
I also feel like there are two endings to the game (those who have played it know what I mean), and I feel like the game should have ended at the first ending. Everything after that seems like a waste of time which really doesn't add anything to the story and doesn't give the player any better closure.
I had a lot of fun playing the game itself, even though some things became a bit repetitive after playing the game for a few hours.
The game is also very good looking, beautiful I would even say.
    In conclusion:
The game for me is between 6 and 7 out of 10. I hated the part that set up the rest of the story, but I am still trying to evaluate the game not only from that one part, but the game as a whole. That may seem hard since the whole game is based on that one big moment in the game, what I call "The Game of Thrones syndrome", where any character can die at any moment. After GOT it seemed to be in style to copy that, shocking people by sweeping the rug from under their feet. This is the biggest fail Naughty Dog did, I think. Was it shocking? Yes. But I still feel like it was nowhere near worth it. I rather would have liked to see them make a great continuation to the first game. I know that if they would have done that, then the user rating would be close to a 9 out of 10.

It is actually such a excellent game, worthy of being a sequel to the first. The characters, the story, the visuals, the music, the mood, all of it is just perfect. The story is really about revenge, one person wants to get revenge against Joel, the other wants to get revenge for Joel. In the end, this game is a fantastic symbol for how violence drives the human mind. All of this culminates into an ending that is driven by heart, passion, and Ellie’s love and respect for Joel. A story based game requires a good story to be successful, so when Naughty Dog's speciality fails in this area, then the maximum I am willing to rate it is 5. To be very clear, it's not WHAT happened, it's HOW. It's not the gender or race of characters, but the the emptiness of their souls and the alien choices they make.

One may be quick to assume that the theme of this game is revenge, however I would make the case that 'contrived' would be more accurate. Any question the director may have hoped to ask the audience about revenge is quietened by the shallowness of the characters and the nonsensical choices they make, all to forward the story in a direction so forced that I think it should file a sexual assault allegation against Naughty Dog.

To say that a game can't be rated bad because things didn't happen in a way that I liked, does not detract from the fact that it was objectively poor writing, therefore it does not align with the previous game. If they want to make stories that aim at another target group then go ahead, but the reason it hurts people so much is because they should have done it with a new franchise instead of ripping up an already loved one just to please someone else. It is clear that the old was (literally) slaughtered to make way for the new, hense the injustice felt by many TLOU1 fans.

Token diversity characters aren't treated as real people with real personalities, ironically most of them die anyway and for some reason they didn't make Abby an ethnically diverse character.
Something that's been bugging me for a while about Naughty Dog, has anyone else noticed how every prominent black woman is never fully black, but a mixed complexion, Nadine in Uncharted, Marlene, Riley, Nora... It's not a problem for me however a character looks, but I'm starting to think they are afraid to make a woman who is very black... like they don't really care about diversity at all. To think they are diverse game makers is a lie. They just get to check diversity boxes.

    Shorter notes:
-It goes on too long, could have cut out at least 5 hours and been much better for it.
-Boring dialogue, especially during open world.
-Joel and Ellie do not have any of their personality traits from the first game.
-Feels like LGBT fetish porn throughout.
-False advertising based on original trailers not reflecting final product.
-More difficult infected enemies should have been introduced during open world as it was boring.

    Pros:
    -Fun game play
    -New melee options
    -New infected enemies

    In conclusion:

One of the most upsetting parts is the earlier trailers suggest Joel plays a much larger part in the game. I'd easily call it false advertising. This is why I marked it down from 5 to 4. It's not my problem that they decided to remake it half way through production to render the teasers completely irrelevant. We had already pre-ordered.

It suffers the same problems as a standard Hollywood lazy churn out blockbuster, but took triple the time to produce. I will not be investing in future Naughty Dog games, Naughty Dog has lost it's reputation as one of the best.

Was it really worth the huge re-write half way through production, making the original trailer no longer exist in the final product? I wish I could have played that game instead.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To start on a positive note, The Last Of Us Part II is a technical masterpiece. From Graphics to sound, lighting, level design, music and art direction, every technical aspect of this game is absolutely stunning and the developers at Naughty Dog have once again raised the benchmark for what other developers strive to achieve.

I've sat on my feelings about this game for some time after completing it as I wanted to digest just how conflicted I originally felt once the credits rolled. I admire the bold choices made for the story and liked the fact that it didn't strive to simply replicate beats from the first game, however, I didn't find many moments that were as profound or meaningful to the abundance that the first game achieved. The closest that comes to this, sadly, are the flashback sequences between Joel and Ellie. The one and only moment that really stuck with me was the space module sequence in the museum.

I think I've boiled the issues I had down to two major issues. The direction of its structure/pacing and character development.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dina and Ellie's earlier interaction in the game and there was a certain warmth to her chemistry with Ellie. There are several moments, however, where a new character started to grow on me and was immediately ripped away far too soon. Just as we start to connect with Jesse, he is swiftly taken away without any sense of impact to Ellie or Dina throughout the later game. I understand that it is supposed to reflect the bleakness of that world, but I lacked any lasting emotion because I hadn't spent long enough with him, nor did his death seem to really impact the other characters around him later down the line. I also didn't ever really connect with the extended WLF crew because of the clunky back and forth structure in which it chose to tell its story.

With regards to the structure, I felt as though the game missed a great opportunity to explore Abby's character in a way that would allow us to sympathise with her prior to her act of revenge. I would have liked to have seen her interact with Joel more after having been saved by him, hesitant and conflicted about her quest for revenge. Allow the tension to build as we as the audience learn about her reasons through flashback while simultaneously playing her in the present, wondering whether or not she will make that final decision as she spends more time with Joel and Ellie. I feel this would have been a great first half of the game and then once she finally succumbs to exacting her revenge, then we take over as Ellie and head to Seattle in the second half (accompanied by the same Joel and Ellie flashbacks, but this time towards the end of the story).

I ultimately found the length of the game to be too long for the message it was trying to convey. I'm sure the intention was to make us feel as exhausted and emotionally drained about life in this world, but I didn't need 25 hours to get there. It feels as though the game is aiming for a very niche audience because on one end of the spectrum, you have people who are somewhat close-minded and outright refuse to peel back the curtain of Abby's character.

On the other hand, you have people who are open to Abby's motivations from the very beginning. I myself felt zero hatred towards her actions and only sadness during the entire scene. I immediately thought, 'I'm sure she had her reasons,' given Joel's darker past during the apocalypse. The only issue I could see is that because of the extent of her brutality, she almost becomes irredeemable for the audience from the onset, but it was interesting to observe her cope with the other side of revenge (paralleled with Ellie's story leading up to revenge). What you have left is an audience of people who are open, but somehow aren’t already aware that the world isn't full of heroes and villains, that everyone is in a morally grey area, that revenge is a costly and unrewarding act and that there are two sides to every story. I just don't think it shines as much new light as it thinks it does on these themes. The first game's story was never anything new, but what made it a masterpiece was the relationship and complexity of its characters. I loved Joel not in spite of, but because of his flaws. His decision and motivations felt earned and honest. While the emotional trauma of his death had a significant impact on Ellie, I found her journey for revenge almost too blind to be believable and so rather than flaws, I saw them as a lack of intelligence that was already established in the first game.

Whether I would tread back into it as often as I did the first game, I don't know... Even though it didn't completely stick the landing for me, it did open an interesting discussion amongst fans and I’m glad to have experienced it.

The Last of Us is all about the story. It is made to let it feel cinematic. Part II doesn't disappoint in that regard. The story really feels like a poor made low budget B-movie. Doktor Uckmann unfortunately puts a lot of ethical propaganda elements in "his" game that doesn't make sense and add nothing to story. Story 3/10. Gameplay 7/10. Graphics 8/10. Overall 0. The story sucks. Really. For the first 10 hours I had a lot of hope for it. I lost if all during the next 10 hours and forced myself to finish the game for the rest of time.
The problem is that you don’t get to care about the new characters, you don’t empathise with anyone but Ellie... this is SO not the level of deep character creation I remember from the first game, where you would actually feel for others not just Joel and Ellie. The ending is just... disappointing.
Don’t get me wrong: there were great things as well, they were just so few compared to other less “generous” moments of storytelling.

The gameplay has improved incredibly since the first game though: the combat is outstanding and the game is so very enjoyable to play. If I could forget about the story, that the game just doesn’t deliver, than I would totally rate TLOU Part II a solid 9/10.
But I care about the story. So it gets 4/10. Shame.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lemme just say I'm unbelievably lucky to have missed the leaks in April. I absolutely loved TLOU from the moment I got to play the demo at PAX East back in 2013. Thankfully I went into TLOU2 without any of the story spoiled for me, but to be perfectly honest, even if I knew I think I'd still like the game.

    Why?

Now that I've finished it, I would like to give my thoughts on the three biggest complaints I've been seeing online. First, that killing Joel was, at best, **** storytelling, and at worst, a huge F-you to TLOU fans. I hated that Joel died that way, but in my opinion it was perfectly appropriate for the story they were trying to tell. Others have said this, but TLOU2 is essentially a love letter to Joel. I was disappointed that he wasn't a main character but the player is supposed to mourn his loss.

The second gripe that I keep hearing is "Abby sucks." No **** she's a murderer. You're not supposed to like her. By playing as her, we are forced to experience the consequences of Joel's selfish decision. The unfortunate conceit on part of the writers is that they don't really care if you like her or not. Her purpose in the game is to show that other people in this world, just like Joel and Ellie, have families, hopes, loves, and motivations just as complicated as the main characters. The uninfected people you kill are actual people. Often **** people, but Joel and Ellie aren't exactly saints themselves.

Yeah, I get that it was a bit off-brand for Joel and Tommy to let their guard down when they first met Abby in the woods, but after five years of "normal" life in Jackson maybe softened them a bit. Who knows? To be completely honest some of the Abby parts for were a slog for me, but the destination was worth it. I could write a much longer essay of what I think of Abby but here isn't the place. Suffice to say, I totally get why some people still don't like her after all that. However, a lot of these 0 and 1 reviews just seem like a tantrum over having to play someone they don't like while completely missing the point that Abby's journey is essential to not only Ellie's journey, but the overarching point that justice isn't always possible and revenge isn't always satisfying.

The last major complaint is the idea that Ellie "failed" Joel, or that the whole point of the game was lost, by her not killing Abby. That complaint really blows my mind because the whole game was trying to beat into you the futility of vengeance in a world where everyone has suffered terrible losses. Abby learns this the hard way by opting into the cycle of violence by killing Joel, only to lose her friends and loved ones by Ellie's hands. By the final confrontation, they're both completely broken. Ellie's obsession with Abby is really just her displaced grief at never being able to properly forgive Joel, plus her massive survivor's guilt of being immune and it being rendered pointless. During that fight I was horrified at the thought of Ellie actually killing her, the same as when Abby was about to kill Ellie in the theater. Granted I care more about Ellie than Abby, but if the game had ended with Abby drowned and Lev alone I would have lost my ****.

Overall, I think the game is absolutely worth playing. Sure, there are some things I think could have been done better, specifically the pacing of some of the Abby parts and the fact that all the decisions seem so predetermined. I understand why some people dislike the structure of the game and how you play as Abby after Ellie, but I personally don't think that warrants a very low score. Also, I feel a bit cheated in not giving Ellie a ratking-esque boss fight, but that's not enough to knock off a point.

What I think the game did exceptionally well is the accessibility options, because I'm hard of hearing and being able to adjust the subtitle size and add direction indicators is really nice. The gameplay, skill upgrades, and weapon selection are top-notch of course. One other thing that made me really happy was they didn't pull the "bury your gays" with Dina.

The story wasn't a disappointment, but it wasn't immediately satisfying in the way the TLOU was. It took me a week after finishing it to process what I really think of it, and the more I think about it the more I want to play it again. Then again I'm a sucker for sad ****.

I really appreciate the narrative risks they took with this game. When they said it was dark, they meant for the player, not just the characters. This isn't about revenge as a power fantasy, it's the darkness of watching someone you care about spiral down a path to misery. In the end Ellie saved herself, but it cost her nearly everything. I sincerely hope there's a TLOU3-- that sad dumb lesbian better find Dina and get a happy ending where a cure can be developed without killing her. One can hope, right?

    - GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is just awesome. Naughty Dog has mixed the gameplay mechanics of The Last of Us and Uncharted 4, added new animations and made everything faster and smoother. You have the impression of being in a movie. I tried doing things like jumping over an enemy from a roof and it actually worked. The silenced gun allows you new tactics, for example you can grab one enemy, threaten another with the gun and kill both silently. These things are not explained, so you have to find out for yourself and I find it simply amazing.
There are multiple enemies, with different guns, abilities etc. Dogs make stealth missions more interesting.
Now you can jump, lie down, go under a car or hide in grass so there are more possibilities to defeat enemies.
Often the areas are very large, making the game a kind of mini open world.

    - GRAPHICS
I played the game on standard PS4 and the graphics are just amazing. It looks like a new gen videogame. The level design is awesome, every house is different from the others. Facial expressions and animations are the best ever made in a video game so far, it makes it more realistic and makes you identify even more in the story.

    - STORYLINE
If you expect the usual story where the protagonist saves everyone and becomes a hero then don't buy it. The story takes up some themes from the first The Last of Us, such as the fact that nobody is perfect, everyone is human. Joel and Ellie may be heroes for us, but they are enemies of other people. To emphasize this, they show us the story from other perspectives.
The main theme is revenge. But it is much more complicated than that. It is the description of human psychology and its evolution over the course of events. The narrative, as for the first chapter, is spectacular
I don't say anything else to avoid spoilers

    - A. I.
Alive. The world is simply alive.
The enemies talk to each other, communicate, look for us, despair if one of their companions dies or if they are injured. When you kill someone, you feel it on your conscience. It is so realistic.
Dogs simply act like real dogs.
Your travel companions are real, they talk to you and keep you company. You never feel like you're in a video game.
The only stupid beings (deliberately) are the infected, which do not reflect and appear clumsy.

    - SOUND
I finished the game and am continuing to hear the music of the game on spotify. Perhaps for personal tastes I preferred those of the first chapter, but these are perfect for this darker video game.
Ambient sounds are made with impressive precision and quality. If you have surround headphones, use them and you will realize that what you have in front of you is not a video game, but a real world.

    - DETAILS
Details are the things that make a great video game, a masterpiece. They might not have put the squirrel on the tree, the rat in the bathroom or the floating plastic bag carried by the wind. But they did it.
If you kill someone on the snow, the blood is absorbed by it and, being hot, it melts it.
I tried to get on one thing (I can't say what) completely by chance, and there was a real cutscene for this. An impressive attention to detail
There are other details that I let you discover for yourself, also because some of them are real spoilers.

    - CONCLUSION
In my opinion, The Last of Us Part II is at least the game of the generation.
It may not be a game suitable for everyone, but if you love a powerful storyline, full of emotions, surrounded by an exceptional technical sector and gameplay, then it is the right game for you.

    Simple art.

First, I was a bit bored - a novelty for a Naughty Dog title. Second, I was being forced into some kind of awful Top Trumps morality contest revenge drama - but why? We're in a setting where there is no rule of law, where all participants are wronged, damaged and at risk of sudden death - and where most have done despicable things to other humans. There are no saints in the fungal future, I thought that was made clear in the first game, so it feels odd for the new game to be some kind of weird standoff over who is the real villain on a dual/mutual revenge trail. (And that's not to mention the egregious plot holes driving the opening revenge narrative, the outrageous coincidences and character contradictions). So it gets draining to be pulled this way and that by the developers, tugging on my heart strings with all the subtlety that Ellie has with her iron bar...no, the first game was underpinned by hope and this one is all about anger and hate, there's no morality winner.

And the problem with anger and hate in a revenge drama is we know what's coming. Oh yep. It's death or forgiveness and you might as well cut to the chase and stop rummaging in drawers and crawling through gaps because we know the ending. But the writers/directors want to keep squeezing the juice out of the lemon, just a little more they say, let me go a bit further and it'll morph into a masterpiece. Maybe that's why so many revenge dramas are so long and take place over many years - Ethan questing through the seasons in The Searchers, Ahab roaming the oceans for his whale, The Bride hacking and hacking, more and more blood and anger. But you keep reading or watching those classics because the environments, the supporting characters, the main protagonist back stories, the great scope and vision of the wandering experience...they're all fresh and dazzling. All of those things are missing from this game if you've played the first round. We already know Ellie and Joel, we know the Ballardian environments, we know the gameplay, the factions are pretty similar to ones already encountered - all that's new is the revenger who is badly drawn, contradictory in values and not given a backstory until it's too late to bring the audience over.

I appreciate the writing ambition. I love some of the art design details - new players will marvel at the gameplay and settings. But the story arc is a rambling, creaking inchoate mess and I never feel that I get to know or understand the new character. But I feel that I understood Ellie and Joel from the first game, I know why Joel did what he did. I don't struggle with that. And I can't think of any reason why I'd want to replay any of the new game, I don't understand what the prize is, what it is that we have to gain.

I stand with Ellie and Joel.

Here to do justice for this game. The characters, gameplay, and graphics are amazing. The plot has some holes obviously but it is made up for by the great flashbacks and some of the better moments in the story.

If you know Naughty Dog and what they are capable of, you can probably tell these user scores are just trolls, I had seen the leaks and played the game. All I can say is, its hands down, one of the best games I have ever played in my life. Supposedly the anger is because of the outcome of some beloved character than some people could not handle.
some say, the marketing was bad but that was only if only to keep the story protected.
For someone who had actually played the game, it would be impossible to rate this game anywhere lower than 8.
I literally just made an account to rant about this mess going on.

-that game was amazing, and in fact the best thing about it is the hated parts, killing Joel, playing with Abby and Ellie not killing her at the end.
-Joel's death made the game interesting, and showed that in a **** up world anyone can die.
-playing with Abby shows how hypocrite people are, if the story was told in reverse (started with Abby's past and didn't know anything about Joel), more people would've empathized with her, but most people hate her cuz they didn't know her, and worst thing is, they don't want to, thats way the game forces your emotional hypocrit ass to play with her...in the end i empathized, and my take was that the world can be **** up, that there is no real glorious good or evil, only perspective.
-the last part is the most interesting, keep in mind, Abby spared Dina and Ellie, and now is taking care of Lev (who by the these haters try to forget that he is Ellie from TLOU1 and Abby is his Joel), so Abby IS a good person, and she made the first step by not killing Ellie, and in the end, Ellie rediscovered her true good nature, and stopped from killing Abby, that was where i bursted in tears, i was like : poor Ellie, this **** is too much for her, she is just a kid.
so let's try to have a wider perspective instead of getting stuck in the revenge cycle, god only knows how much i love Joel, he is too close to my real dad so he is somewhat like my dad, i got never over his death, but i knew that all are victims of the world, and that at least Ellie, Abby and Lev, good people, got alive out of it, that's for me is what made the ending peaceful.
in the end this game just exposed us, and we are mad about it, that's it, and that's what real art should be about, exposing us without care about our feelings.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 2 is the greatest game of this generation so far.
It's also the most polarising. This generation has been underwhelming to me with the 2 exceptions of the Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2, everything wasn't that much of a giant leap from the last console gen. My most played and my favourite game of all time is TES5: Skyrim, a last gen game, I'm still playing this gen.
TLOU2 challenges gamers by killing off a central character in a gruesome fashion, very Game of Thrones esque. Sets you up to play as the antagonist to see their perspective and motivations. With the ending, leaving us with no winners at the of this game. This goes against the grain, against video game norms, it's very Leftfield. In video games we're used to being the heroes and saving the world. In this, you're forced accept the opposite and to make matters worse you have no choice in any of the decisions the characters choose.
I did not look at any leaks, news, gossip, rumour and bought it day 1, played it through out the week and avoided social media for spoilers until completion. I was fully immersed and engaged with the story end to end.
    I couldn't put it down.
I went in with high expectations and it significantly exceeded them.
My life was on hold to play and complete this game. It was sad, it moved me and I still think about it.
I enjoyed so much, I want to play it again but I need to get on with my life. This is an easy clear cut 10 out of 10 game for me.
Just like it's predecessor, no other medium, let alone a game has moved me this much emotionally. In fact a lot of gamers are very emotional right now about this game for various reasons.
This is without a shadow of doubt, the best game I've ever played. I have to commend Naughty Dog, for pushing the video game industry forward yet again and I'm looking forward to what they have in store for us next.
This is an instant classic and must buy.

The combat, if it can be called that, is like the first Hitman game pre-alpha. It felt like a chore almost every time.

It might be me, but I got bored of the really linear format almost immediately. Both in story and combat. I know the first one was similar but it just felt...off. Like I was just moving my joystick through a movie script or scene. It's not so much playing a game as it is one of those choose your own adventure novels. Except there's only one choice. And the adventure itself sucks. I wish there was some form of choice, even if it was small. But everything felt forced to another level. All in all I appreciated the graphics and the cutscenes, at first, but the flashbacks, combat, and lack of any semblance of free will just turned it into a slog very early on. The "puzzle" portions of the various stages were insulting, at best. Something like Resident Evil, generally, requires at least one brain cell. Every stage is built for an intelligent bird in this one. Rolling platform? High access point. Door locked? Break window. It was just very superficial and repetitive. Add in something engaging. Make me think. Even if a little bit. Otherwise all the "puzzles" are just things to waste my time. Imagine if every building in Skyrim had its doors locked and a window up on a platform open. Eventually what's the point of the locked doors? They're just there to be locked. But when locked door equals another automatic access point the meaning is lost. Just goes back to the overtly linear format. The reason this has a 1 star review instead of a 0 is entirely because of the guitar. I spent more time playing songs on the guitar than enjoying the entire rest of the game. If this was Last of Us: Guitar Hero I'd give it 9 stars. Honestly, if I keep the game, it will just be for the guitar. Overall I wouldn't recommend the game to anyone. Unless you have insomnia. Or like playing the guitar.

I not against Ellie letting Abby go at the end. Is not the issue with bringing the LGBTQ+ to game either, I am part of this community. The hack is we have heavy emotion and feeling on Ellie/Joel dual. Is okay when main character died in game but the way it delivered and forcing us to play as Abby, is totally mental torture. Over inserting SJW elements also feel disgusted. Feeling sad for the design, music, programming team to bring out such details and realistic environment but underrated. The storytelling hurts many of us.

The story made me go through an emotional rollercoaster, it had me crying, smiling, being angry and sometimes made my heart beat faster. This game fails on that front. Big time I'm afraid.

The gameplay is similar to the previous game and it feels dated to me. There are minor upgrades on things like melee combat, but it doesn't feel like nearly a decade has passed between games. Everything is very clunky and the AI is memeworthy for the most part. When you combine this with poor charcterisation and less-than-enthusing story, it adds up to disappointment.

The graphics look fantastic, and ND deserves a good deal of credit for that.

In summary, if you enjoyed the first game mainly for the gameplay and graphics rather than the plot and characters, this might be for you. Personally I can't recommend it though.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a perfect example of the poor story writing. It stands nowhere near the original story of Joel and Ellie and it rather feels like a fan fiction of the talentless teenager.

I have to admit that the gameplay and graphics are awesome and ND employees responsible for these elements did a great job. And it's te only reason why this games doesn't get "0" or "1".

However, these elements are not the most important in the game which wants to present a certain story. It is the story itself that has to be great. Unfortunately, it is not the case when it comes to TLoU 2.

Neil Druckmann and his crew clearly show that they don't give the monkeys about the first game of the series: its heroes, their motivations, character traits, and so on and so forth. They simply threw everything into a dustbin and spit into the faces of the players who fell in love with Joel and Ellie.

I totally understand that the postapocalicptic world is hostile and there is a high chance of some of the characters being killed one way or another. But, for the f* sake, you don't slaughter Joel like a pig by the character who at this point of the story is completely random. No explanation, no insight into the character of Abby who murders Joel and then forcing the players to play as this steroid-eating monster for about 10 hours is barbaric, terrible, unacceptable and it is simply a punch in the players' faces. Not to mention the fact that Joel and Tommy completely open to the newly met person they know nothing about xD

However, even if Joel's death could be considered understandable or acceptable, the events after his death make the game even worse. Ellie clearly suffers when she kills Abby's friends but sees nothing wrong in murdering hundreds of random NPCs (f* logic and freedom of choice when it comes to completing the game - either in Rambo or stealthy way). Then we get to the ending of the game which is about REVENGE and yet we get no revenge. Ellie loses everything: Joel, Dina and "their" child, Jessie, two fingers (which make it impossible for her to play the guitar - her last connection with Joel) and she lets Abby live!!!

Mr. Druckmann, WTF is wrong with you man?! You blatantly show the murderer of Joel - the killing machine without any moral code who sees nothing wrong in killing a pregnant woman or butchering Joel in front of his brother and Ellie who begs her to stop - not meeting justice for what she did. You deny the whole point of the games which is about REVENGE. So what was the point of the whole journey of Ellie? She could've stayed in Jackson - at least she wouldn't lose anything apart from Joel.

At the end I would like to "thank" Naughty Dog for deluding players with the fake trailers, lying about Ellie being the only playable character, no need to kill dogs to complete the game, etc. The company which brought us the beautiful games like Crash Bandicoot trilogy, Crash Team Racing, Jak and Daxter series, Uncharted series and the first TLoU turned into a ruin when it comes to story writing. Neil Druckmann destroys the heritage of over 20 years of ND (including crunch of the workers) and he cares more about including the "progressive" ideology into the game instead of the great story itself. As long as people of his kind lead ND, I will spare my time and money for their next projects. It's sad but it's necessary to see the company revive.

TLOU II is like a beautiful, giant, colorful, monumental and shiny cake, which its piece tastes like sh*t.

Everyone was enchanted by the cake on display. Everyone wanted to eat it. Of those who ate, a part got angry due to the food’s terrible taste. They saw all the beauty that orbits the “cake sculpture”, but they did realize that it loses its value when the palate is not even pleased.

Different part of the people who ate the cake, who have a very dubious culinary taste and no experience with other foods, were happy to be eating it - despite the horrible taste - because the ingredients used to make it were not of animal origin. It was socially conscious and appropriate for today's times. Those who did not like it, they say, probably take pleasure in the suffering of others and are outdated, old people who do not adapt to the modern world.
