This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

I was initially super worried about the overwhelming negative reception of this game. Now that I finished the game, I'm glad that I ignored that.
From a technical standpoint this is probably the best game you can get on a parting system like the PS4. It runs smooth for the most part, looks absolutely stunning and was developed with so much love for detail, that I quite literally spent half of my playtime just investigating every little corner and inch of the game.
Gameplay is good, but not perfect. The encounters are more versatile than they were in older Naughty Dog games, but you can still tell that it was made by the same people, that did Uncharted 4 for example. However, combat is intense especially on higher difficulty and the feeling of accomplishment when you cleared a difficult area without wasting all your ammunition and items is definitely there and very rewarding.

The story is I believe what most people criticised the most. Yes it's not perfect, yes there were a few parts where I strongly disagreed with the actions and decisions of my character, but guess what, this is not an open world, sandbox RPG, it's a story driver "adventure" where I don't get to decide what people do and feel. Furthermore, this game manages like hardly a game ever before to make me believe I'm watching actual real human beings. Human beings that are flawed and sometimes naive and dumb - but real. And I'm really thankful for this experience!

Why not a perfect 10/10 then? Well, for once the game felt a little too long. It took me a bit over 30 hours for the first playthrough and I believe it would be even more intense, if this number was down by a couple of hours. The gameplay was like I said before good, but not quite perfect. And - similar but not nearly as bad as the Uncharted games - the ludonarrative dissonance is quite strong in this game.

So if each part of my impressions was weighted the same, I would probably rate this game as a 7 out of 10, but since I think not every part is evenly imported and the overall impression left me simply speechless, I'll give it a 9 out of 10.

Just... Why? This has no respect for its characters, its fans, the first game, even the "theme" of revenge is horribly done. And the ending... 2020/10, this year has nothing good to give us. Please, let Cyberpunk be released in 2021 and not this doomed year.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Story was engaging and had plenty of heart within it. I thought some of the plot points were great and was a display of how low, revenge can bring us down. The flashbacks shown gave context and filled in the 4 year gap and had some of the most touching parts of the game and contrasted with the visceral and brutal revenge narrative. Gameplay has plenty of freedom when approaching each encounter, exploration felt rewarding as it gave notes for side stories and supplies to help with upgrades, ammo and crafting. World design and level design is phenomenal, the music is somber and but also was blood pumping tensity. My main gripe is the momentum lost at the end of Ellie’s section of the game and switches to Abby’s story, however I became invested with her drama and found her story more interesting than Ellie’s which in the end left me wanting both characters to survive as they both have lost nearly everything. Abby’s section should’ve been trimmed a bit but I understand why it was there. I still really enjoyed the game. 22 hrs of gametime Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Rating this a 1 or a 10 is disingenuous. The truth lies somewhere in between. The gameplay, visuals, and sound are all top notch. TLOU II is not a terrible game, but its story (a huge selling point in Naughty Dog games) is underwhelming and, for many people, upsetting. This huge catch bumps TLOU II down to just average. Pacing issues mean the story drags and leaves the player hanging on for something else of substance to happen. The death of the previous game's primary protagonist so early in the game sours what could be a genuinely interesting narrative twist for a video game. Plot points that should be at the end of the game are at the beginning. The game jumps timelines a lot and introduces many new characters, at a steady clip, which may leave some people trying to untangle who is who. In the end, TLOU II is neither as good or bad as some would have you believe. It rests somewhere in the middle. I'd give it a recommend if you value gameplay over story, but if you value story you're better off waiting for this on sale. Expand

Word of advice the characters that you loved in the first game? Don't get too attached to them, the characters do stupid things that they wouldn't normally do (Like Joel blindly walking into an ambush!). This leads to a pointless ending from a pointless bloody violent journey resulting in really nothing for the main characters. Its a weak message to stop a cycle of revenge. Btw why is Abby so buff? This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When most of the streamers playing your game have a look of disappointment on their face, you know you done messed up. The gameplay is serviceable, it isn't groundbreaking in any way and changes very little from the phenomenal first game, but there's nothing wrong with it, it works. Graphics and the overall atmosphere are great, no argument here. However, the neglect shown to the story in a story-driven game absolutely baffles me. It's not even about the fan service and the fact that many people hated to see Joel die. It's about the cheap plot tools that the devs use to get emotions out of you. In the first game, your reaction to the game was natural, here, I was mostly sighing and rolling my eyes, because of course I have to kill a dog and of course she is pregnant (there are like 3 instances of this happening btw). As a standalone game, where you weren't familiar with the characters and the world, TLOU2 might have actually been a better game. But whether Druckmann and ND wanted it or not, this game is a sequel and thus will be compared to its predecessor. And as a successor, The Last of US 2 fails miserably. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm gonna put this review in 3 parts. First why and what I enjoyed about the first part of 'The Last of us", then a general review without any spoilers, and lastly a full review with spoilers.

The Last of Us part 1 is still the best game that I have ever played in my entire life. What did I love about it? The characters, the interactions between them, the development of their relationships. The game made me tear up in the intro! Like 15 minutes into the game. The whole game was a journey and every second of it felt impactful and like it actually mattered. The gameplay was good, but not the most important factor and probably the 'worst' part about the game. If I would rate the individual aspects of the game in numbers out of ten it would look something like this:
    Graphics: 10/10
    Storytelling: 10/10
    Characters: 10/10
    Sound: 10/10
    Setting: 10/10
    Gameplay: 8/10

Now to The Last of us Part 2: Let's start with the positives. The world looks gorgeous, especially for a ps4, they got everything out of that console, no doubt. The soundeffects are still amazing and I felt absolutely immersed in this post apocalyptic world. The gameplay remained mostly the same, just got a few improvements compared to the first part. You could argue the gameplay is outdated but to me that was fine.
Unfortunately, this is where the negatives start. The game's pacing felt off. Some parts were completly rushed, some parts felt like a drag where everything felt like a big 'side quest' without really getting anywhere.
The storytelling was all over the place, characters did not act consistent, character interactions and development was weird. They did not make a good job with the new characters, I did not care about most of them. Some cutscenes did not make any sense and the story felt forced.
This whole game felt more like a huge 'message' to and about our society than a video game. I don't mind a message/meaning behind a game. Something to think about. But it was delivered very poorly. And thats the reason I don't understand the Metascore.

This is where the spoilers start, so be warned.

The Last of Us 2 starts out really nice, giving some backstory to what happened in the first part and introducing some new characters. It takes about 2 hours until the 'big thing' happens. 2 hours where you get reintroduced into the game. In the first part, it took Naughty Dog 15 minutes to get the player emotionally attached to Sarah and 'care' about her.
In this game, they take about 2 hours(!) to kill Joel, the main character of the first game and it still felt rushed. Nothing led up to it. It just happened. Joel was one of my favorite video game characters ever. And I did not feel a thing. I was just shocked and disappointed in Naughty Dog. Like, I knew Joel was gonna die in this game. But that was just really low effort...

What's next? Ellie wants revenge and goes after Joel's killer. But instead of putting the emphasis on that, we get a plain love story about Dina and Ellie. Distracting from everything else! Now, I don't care if it's Male/Female, Male/Male, Female/Female or Human/Stuffed Animal. But if I want a love story about some 'horny teenagers' I'm gonna play something else, or watch a movie about that. There's also 2 sex scenes in this game that felt completely out of place. They just added them to add them. They didn't do anything for the story, and just felt awkward.

So Ellie and Dina spend 3 days in Seattle. At the end of day 3 we finally get a standoff with Joel's killer, Abby. What happens next? We have to play Abby, the person that tortured and killed Joel, for 10(!!) hours worth of gameplay. 10 hours of Naughty Dog trying to make you like this character. But they are trying way too hard, a lot of it felt off, weird and just wrong. It did not work for me, I still dislike this character.
Personally, I hated every second of it. I get the message: Ellie and Abby are 'the same'. Neither of them is evil, nor entirely good. Blah blah blah...
Naughty Dog deceived (And it was intentional deception, they admitted it!) the players by making you think Ellie and Joel are gonna be the main characters again. And all of a sudden this new character is 'the main guy'.

So you have to play 3 ingame days of Abby and everything you did felt like a big sidequest and had nothing to do with anything. It was just trying to make you like her. In the end she finds her friends dead, killed by Ellie. She is able to hunt them down because Ellie, Tommy and Jesse (A new guy) left the map on the floor. Which is just sooo out of character. Okay, Ellie just killed a pregnant woman and was in shock. But Tommy would NEVER leave the map. Just one example of the many character flows.
Then you are forced to beat the hell out of Ellie, as Abby.
2 hours of gameplay later you beat the hell out of Abby, as Ellie and in the end? No one dies. Ellie just loses everything.

I wanted to write even more but 5000 characters limit.
    Do no buy!

And now for the bad which there is plenty of wrong with this game like the factthat the false advertisement that players would see more ellie and Joel which is just wrong and you can call it protecting the story but the reality is that half of the people would most likely not buy the game if they didnt see Joel or ellie together, and that was so wrong on his part and personally I feel that we deserve a redo or a dlc but they claimed no dlc, another problem is that they kill Joel off at the very start of the game which was very disappointing rather than sad at the moment I was just mad that ellie didnt just walk in and shoot instead she walk up and gets rustled to the ground, and then watched Joel get beaten with a golf club which is very distasteful, it's like they felt like they needed to kill Joel off for something to happen they could've killed dina off to start the revenge plot that was forced into your brain a million times, and then Joel showing up where Jesse does would've been a true trailer and people would've been more happy, then you can see Joel and ellie trying to reconnect but acting distant due to what happened in the past and you can find out about dina through flashbacks and then Jesse wouldve had more of a reason to go since it was his ex, but then they decided to make you play as abby and try to see her side which killed the game for me I wanted to quit playing right there but I gave it a chance and it didnt get better the only good thing that happened was yara and levs part felt pretty interesting and that was about it, and the cut from ellie getting a gun pointed at her to seeing a flashback was horrible honestly idk what you were thinking, then you make us fight ellie? Like idc if ellie is bad and abby is good I'm connected with Joel and ellie not abby so I dont want to fight her at all, so during my playthrough I stood there and let her kill me to see maybe it will change something but nope, you basically beat ellie to a pulp and wouldve slit dinas throat if level wasnt there to stop her she is such an unlikable character who feels no rebound to her actions, then ellie spares her after murdering hundreds of people for what, even though at that point i lost all interest in the game and didnt even feel like killing her anymore I just wanted this trainwreck to be over already, not to mention they basically want you to hate ellie for killing people even though half of them were self defense or provocation, but this wasnt a last of us game as far as I'm concerned and I definitely dont want a part 3 unless they are going to have Joel and ellie rather than abby and lev, and one other thing is that the characters that were new were completely bland and forgetful we didnt feel a connection between any of them Jesse was just forgotten when he died dina leaves and is never seen again it felt like she was there just to show ellie still likes girls and to keep her from getting to Joel quicker, and every charcter onabbys side sucked honestly, and characters acted completely different idc what Neil says Joel was a smuggler for years he wouldn't let his guard down and the fact that abby knew his whole name and she could tell it was him and where he was from was complete bs, she never saw Joel or ellie, or Tommy, she only heard his first name and nothing else so it seems impossible to track him and immediately know this random guy who just saved you is the Joel that killed your dad, it had so many plot holes it felt rushed even though u had 7 years that's sad but aging it doesnt deserve a 10 or a 0 review it wasnt the worst game but you have high expectations due to the trailers and since it is called the last of us, so I'm being generous giving a 6 ,,t,tt

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

It was pretty bad. It was exhausting. The entire Abby part I just want it to be over. They dragged the story for too long, and they put small annoying things that it came out horrible.

    1. Making you kill dogs

    2. Playing Abby right after killing the only likeable character, Jesse.

    3. Irresponsible pregnant women jumping and running around

    4. That sex scene

    5. Making you play as Abby in the theater

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Graphics 9/10
Sounds 10/10 (best I had ever heard if not perfect, the closest it can get)
Lights 9/10 all of these things are amazing and top notch... but the story, man... I think it is a nice story, it was well done but very very poorly executed... Joel’s death... I understand these people hate him and the way they killed him, sure... Joel had it coming, he killed a lot of people, he was not a good guy but we still loved him, in our eyes he was justified, he was a good guy (objectively he wasn’t)... I expected and wanted Joel to die so we would have a purpose but just not this way... The decisions made by Joel in the second game was just plain stupid... and let’s accept that he **** up and got himself bashed by a golf club sure, the more blood the better but then I don’t wanna play as the woman who killed him for 10 hours... that is just boring, there is no redemption for Abby, I don’t wanna connect with her after she killed Joel, maybe if they made me connect with Abby first and then she killed Joel, I would still be angry but I would of not quit playing 50 times while playing as Abby because it was just pointless... I just hope the third game ain’t gonna be this dark and pointless, they just made Ellie suffer (Sure, she went on revenge instead of living her life and so when she comes back she has nothing left) I understand that but it was just not worth playing to be honest, I would have rather just leave everything as they were in the first game... In short, technically this game is amazing 9/10 (It can never be perfect), story wise (which matter to me the most) good story but super **** execution so 5/10 (-5 for **** execution, +5 for the story itself) and not worth full price...

Story: I won´t say anything specific. The story is full of plot holes don´t expect much and I really didn't get attached to any of the new characters.

Verdict: The game is not as bad as people make it look like, obviously the story sucks, but try to look into the good sides of the game like I did and give it a proper score. For me The Last Of Us Part 2 is a solid 7/10.

The Last of Us Part II is a big lie, they advertise to us something and then deliver something totally different, like why u make us go hype for joel and ellie and then make me play 50% with a silly charachter instead of me playing with the charachters im attached to.

Abby's Story and motiviation are so empty and silly, i dont give a damn about a 14 yrs old kid running to his/her mother to convince her of what he/she is in the middle of a Brutal world where a civil war is about to begin... i mean i've just met them man!!! and then killing a dozen of men to find out that he/she killed his/her mother!!!! The story wouldn’t be good. There’s so much emotion and brought me to tears several times. Ellie’s statements when killing and just little comments and her visible discomfort and ptsd is shown so well and even with Abby who at first playing as made me annoyed, was made so well that I ended up feeling bad for her and her story. The ending showed Ellie as human, and Joel’s death, though very sad, brought the game together, with Ellie and Joel’s visible desperation emotionally and ending on bad terms, you could see Ellie break down and loose herself. And that’s what I love about it. It’s Ellie’s story. And her life, and gives another POV. Amazing game 10/10 would play again Expand

    - The pace is horrible
    - There are lots of plotholes that leaves to think that the story has been re-written multiple times
    - The " first twist " is extremely cheap and goes against character building that was done in the first game. It feels forced because Joel makes decisions that he would never do otherwise.
    - The ending and the morale of the story makes no sense when you think back at what the main character has done to get there.

If we could compare The Last of Us 2 to a movie, it would be an extremely high budget movie, with the best actors, the best CGI, but written by someone with no experience.

Also, it's hard to support a game brought by a man that fired most of the people that created The Last of Us 1 and the Uncharted series over creative differences..

I've now completed The Last of Us Part II twice and I am really impressed with the game. I also replayed the first game recently to make sure any comparisons I make are meaningful.

    Story:
Continuing from the end of the first game, Last of Us Part II focuses on Ellie as the key protagonist. Without spoiling the game, Ellie's journey is full of difficult choices and weighty character moments and I found myself gripped. There are additional characters introduced in this game. Standout is Abby, a new character who parallels with Joel's journey from the first game. There are sections where you play as Abby and I found her gameplay to be a refreshing change from sections playing as Ellie.
Overall the focus of the story is a revenge mission made of two parts. Again I won't go into too much but the ending is satisfying and sets up for Part III whilst also being a definitive end to this part. I found the story to be more realistic than the first game. Characters question their actions more here, and murdering hordes of people is no longer just a 'by product' of a journey, but part of a clear story narrative. The writers have also been brave with the story choices. I was particularly impressed with the representation in this game. There are numerous characters introduced from BAME backgrounds and there are characters tackling issues linked to sex and gender identity. This doesn't feel shoe-horned, but rather a natural reflection of the world we live in, not the make belief all white world you see in most games.
Focusing on multiple story lines, does at points make deviate a little from the overall narrative, but not so much that it hinders the story.

    Gameplay:
The new elements added to Part II are great. Part stealth, part frantic action, most fighting sections left me running around looking for resources to stay alive. With the introduction of new enemy types, the game stays fresh whilst refining what was good in the first. I'm particularly impressed with the enemy AI which is more reactive than ever. Especially the dogs, which as a dog lover, I must say I hated them by the end of the game.
Weapon mechanics are similar to the first game but better. On one end you can craft silencers for your pistol, on the other you can craft explosive arrows. I did two runs and in the first I was largely stealthy and made use of the ability to craft arrows and silencers. On the other I went in loud, making use of explosive ammo and bombs. Either way there are plenty of tools for the job.
This game also ups the horror elements. Now the infected are scarier than ever and there are a few scenes which particularly shook me up. New infected types are introduced and they are a great additional challenge to the game.

    Sound:
The music is as excellent as ever with the score from Gustavo Santaolalla bringing a great ambience to the game. I played the game with noise cancelling headphones and found the soundtrack immersive and powerful. There are moments where the soundtrack really builds as the character is grappling with tough emotional decisions, and of course, when you are running for your life.
The sound effects are also better this time. Guns sound punchy and the infected sound scarier than ever.

    Overall:
If you loved the first game, you will also love this game. The characters have grown in weight and complexity and the gameplay is fine tuned to perfection. It is the only game this console gen I have immediately replayed and I look forward to doing so again.

From great powers comes great responsabilities then Neil Druckmann and all NaughtyDog decide to push forward the meaning of videogame as an interactive medium with themes and connections between other medium like comics movies and music that has been just barely touched in indie games and never in AAA games in this deep way. The only negative thing that i'm a little sad about is that the public wasn't ready for such a brave change and because of this we can't all share the impressions and the love that such a great storyline and character development deserves because the vast majority of people that are playing videogames are just a bunch of ignorant babies and fanboys/groupies for characters but i guess that if you sold 4 millions copies in 3 days is fair that some people will be offended and will spread just hate. It's just a S.J.W. based game without any real game play. Don't give them money for such a bad game. Worst of all.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Is made in detail. Attention to detail is amazing. There are interesting places in the gameplay, but TLOU2 is not far from the first game. Insanely beautiful, but often very boring. The scenario... well, the scenario could have been finished after the golf stick. Everything that happens next is complete nonsense. You only believe Ellie's character, the rest are just SJW dolls. There's no depth. I'm disappointed. Expand

5.75 out of 10 - Okay game. Phenomenal Animation and visuals especially facial animations. Passable gameplay, if lacking in innovation over the first game, and combat with repetitive looting that can make the game drag in several parts. Phenomenal Animation and visuals especially facial animations. Passable gameplay, if lacking in innovation over the first game, and combat with repetitive looting that can make the game drag in several parts. However, The Last of Us is best known for its story and sadly that's where this game drops the ball BIG TIME. There are parts of the game that give you glimpses of the brilliant writing in the first game, primarily in flashback sequences. Sadly these moments are few and far between with most of the writing and character dialogue ranging in quality from bland to head-scratchingly bad. One of the narrative choices in particular left me struggling for motivation to play the rest of the game past the two hour mark. Overall The Last of Us Part II is a decent yet extremely disappointing game when compared to its predecessor.

    Scoring Scale:
1 - (AWFUL) Among the worst games ever made. The developer should be ashamed.
2 - (VERY BAD) These games are so bad they're insulting.
3 - (BAD) Just bad. Game suffers from a wealth of problems in all areas, very few redeeming qualities.
4 - (MEDIOCRE) A game that has its fair share of serious problems with a few glimmers of quality sprinkled throughout. More than anything it's forgettable.
5 - (OKAY) For every positive this game has there is just as many negatives. You may be able to find enjoyment in these games however you will likely be met with equal amounts frustration and disappointment.
6 - (GOOD) There is a decent amount of fun to be had in these games albeit with a few noticeable drawbacks. Worth checking out at some point especially if on sale.
7 - (GREAT) A game that has some flaws but all in all is a great game worth every penny of its purchase price.
8 - (AMAZING) Game of the year contender only allowing for some minor flaws.
9 - (SUPERB) One of if not the best game released that year, truly special.
10 - (NEAR PERFECT) One of the best games ever made.

I experienced a lot of emotions in this game.
i haven't seen so many emotions in one game.
    I think the whole time:
My heart would break if ellie or abby die, so strong feelings i never experience in a video game.
Thanks to Naughty dog for a awesome game

This is the best ever story told with a game, this story clains your anger, this is not a good story, its about broke you, the gamer, in pieces, makes you fells the every single part of mourning and a bitter flavour in your mouth. Uncomfortable but amazing.

I can’t bring myself to give this game a score better than 0 because of how betrayed and deceived and robbed I feel right now. I would write a long review about all the things this game didn’t get right but I’m not sure it’s worth my energy. Thanks for ruining the francise ND.

A true masterpiece the lives up to and expands upon the massive success of its predecessor. The first game was a witty, heartfelt, and gruesome story that gives you hope and leaves you satisfied with a near perfect ending. Though, we quickly realize in The Last of Us Part 2 that actions from the first game indeed have consequences....

The Last of Us Part 2 is a polar opposite. It’s a story of hate, revenge, loss, and devastation. There’s a partial departure from the first games protagonist/character arc and we find ourselves with a hard to stomach tale of revenge that beats you down and makes you explore the consequences of your actions. The game is constantly questioning your humanity as you desperately try to justify the escalating situations of brutality. I beat the game emotionally distraught and in deep reflection for all of the stories facets to unfold. I can confidently say that no other video game in my entire left has left me so broken, stunned, and impressed. I don’t want to ruin the game for you, as you undoubtedly MUST experience this masterpiece for yourself, but this a game that will haunt you in the most epic of ways. If you’re hoping for a happy ending, you’d be sadly mistaking.

Besides the story, this game has some of the most cutting edge graphics and accessibility functions to date and you can even play the game a second time fully customizing your difficulty level. Naughty Dog has pushed the limits of what a game can offer on the PS4 and this achievement should be praised and applauded. This game will stay with you for a long time after you play it and will leave you coming back for more. I’d highly recommend you to play it if you’re looking for something that challenges your mentally and emotionally, and aren’t afraid to experience a story that takes high stake risks. They certainly pay off.

Incredible experience throughout the whole game. If you come to this game with the open mind and neglect all negative reviews you may have lots of fun during the game process and emotional roller coaster throughout the story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a Masterpiece. I loved playing through the game from start to finish. So many emotionally draining moments, from Joel's death to the ending. It was a heartbreaking story with Ellie seemingly losing everything, Dina and JJ included as a result of her hunting for revenge for Joel's death. Hands down best game I've ever played, it's even the first one that has made me cry (Sarah's death and Ellie's incident with David made me come close).

Visually, the game was absolutely stunning. The reflections were fantastic and the lighting was superb, even on a base PS4 with normal 1080p TV. It felt so real and in particular the cut scenes where more often than not it was like watching a scene out of a movie instead of a game. Great animation too, superb; the movement was so fluid and I loved the transitions from cut scene to gameplay, very well done!!

The soundtrack is something else. It's phenomenal. It really adds to the experience in my opinion. The music along with the heartbreakingly brutal story just works, it's memorable. I could listen to a piece of music from the game and remember which song was in what bit of the game (I.e. All Gone playing when Joel dies when you're playing and playing All Gone without playing the game you just know where in the game that song is.

Obviously the game isn't perfect, I do wish the Abby segment wasn't as long as it was BUT I do think that got to show is more about her, her motives for wanting to kill Joel and her change as a character (once being a devout Wolf, then going AWOL and helping Seraphites.
Yes there was that scene on the boat with Owen and Abby and maybe it was a bit too much but this is an 18 and we know about their past relationship so I don't have many complaints there.

I loved the brutality, the combat felt too real with the incredible graphics, very detailed.

I've already played through it twice (first completed 21/06/20) and I still felt the same way as I did when completing the game for a second time. Even when you know what's coming it still gets you emotionally, and the Rat King is still just as scary and revolting as the first time. Fantastic game!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really loved playing this game. But that doesn’t mean I hate Joel or Ellie. And that doesn’t mean I loved Abby. I actually hated Abby almost the entire time. Even let Ellie kill her on purpose a couple times so I could see her get her revenge and pretend that was the end of the game. But I know that that’s not what actually happens and finished the game anyway. I saw the way Abby was stripped of a lot at the end and actually felt bad for her. I did end up liking her a little bit but she’s definitely not a character I love or even really care about. I was pretty indifferent to her. Didn’t care if she lived or died. I mean, she was perfectly fine with killing a pregnant woman until Lev stopped her. While Ellie didn’t know she killed a pregnant woman and then had a panic attack when she finds out she did. The game really messed with my emotions and I love games that do that. I wish Ellie got a little bit of a happier ending. Not a complete happy ending, but at least got to keep her freaking fingers. I see what they were trying to do with this game, but I’m not sure it was executed all that well when it comes to the story but I do still like it. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay was fun, and I found myself wanting to play more and more. So I’ll give it a higher rating for that. But it’s not a full 10 for me because of the way the story was told and executed. It could’ve been better. It’s definitely a new favorite for me, but part 1 is just better and couldn’t be topped. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall the Last Of Us Two is far from good. The game has state of the art graphics, animation, combat and mechanics. However the game is held back by the story and the way it’s told. I have never been more unmotivated to play a game my whole life. Some of the ideas for the story are ok on their own but are executed very poorly. If the gameplay had started with Abby and we where on a revenge mission but didn’t know who we where going after, would have created suspense and conflict in the player as we would’ve seen a character we actually liked killing our beloved Joel. However we still would have been like I just want to play as Joel and Ellie so either way the player doesn’t like playing as Abby. Also the developers wanted to change to minds of players and show that good is a point of view. The way Joel died didn’t sit well with me either. The whole point of Joel’s character is that he is super careful and would always take it to the next level to protect Ellie as he felt a farther daughter bond with her and couldn’t bare to lose that again. So why he just randomly trusted some stranger is beyond me, it’s completely out of character. The game is also very politically and try’s to hard to tell you the way you should think. By themselves the politics where ok but they build up and where to much to take. I have nothing against the issues, but when it’s getting shoved down my through that I must feel this way and I must share the same opinion I don’t like that. I enjoyed working my way though abandoned town clearing out infected. Or clearing out camps and posts of the Wolves clan. I thought the combat worked well and the mechanics worked well to keep the game running smoothly. And during the game you get to visit some places that look amazing! One thing about combat that could’ve been improved was a slowing of time when you chose weapons I found to often that once I has bring up the menu, picked my gun and reloaded it the infected had a couple hits on me. Overall I enjoyed playing the game but found myself to often not wanting to play due to the story line and the bad characters and character development in the game. And it’s a shame because to first one is one of my all time favourite games and it’s a shame we had to wait seven years for this. The game has incredible graphics, combat and mechanics, and I think this had potential to be better. - Brett Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
