I can understand why some people didn't like the story cause it didn't really do it for me either, I still really enjoyed it but it just didn't live up to it's predecessor. Also at times it felt a little bit preachy when it came to the topics of gay relationships and trans people. Those are the only reason i didn't give it a 10/10.

As for the positives, the graphics are amazing, the acting is sublime, the level design was extremely interesting (especially at the end) and most importantly once I started playing I just couldn't stop cause I was truly hooked. Plus one of the biggest positives was Ellie's birthday level, probably one of my favorite scenes in a game ever.

Don't listen to the people who haven't played the whole game. Definitely worth playing.

The story might not have been all the way up there with the first last of us game, but I got invested in the story and I think naughty dog did a good job with having you relate to and understand both ellie and Abby that your playing. And it seems like so many trolls are bombing the score of the game because a characters in it but its truly has an amazing game play and character development which can be very emotional.

I had to sign up here and write a review, mainly because i was so disappointed at the lack of diversity of thought in games journalism giving a game with many glaring faults the title of 'masterpiece'.

    So the positives:

•Great presentation such as its graphics and environments. Animation is by far the best we've seen this generation.
Enemies have a very human like response in and to combat, they'll call each others name when one dies, they'll give orders and sometimes scream in agony on the floor as they bleed out from missing a limb... awesome.

•overall gameplay is brutal and meaty like the first, with additions like a dodge button, being able to crawl to enter stealth in tall grass. New additions such as dogs and new infected keep it fresh enough for the 25-30 hour total length. Upgrade trees giving different choices of playstyle are neat.

    • brilliant accessibility and difficulty customization, by far the best on console.

    Now the negatives:

    • The story is very poorly paced, there are rumours a lot was cut, chopped and changed, you can tell they clearly had disagreements with how to pace and lay out the story- its a mess.

    • For a Last of Us sequel it has poor writing, both in the dialogue and the really clear contrivances that play out.

•Unlikeable characters of which the game very bluntly tries to force empathy with by using props like other characters who's whole purpose is to get the player feeling a certain way or to add to the overall commentary of the game. The game is happy to use Joel as a tool to cheaply attempt the player to feel emotion rather than it occurring through natural dialogue or events.

    • Its pretentious and the main focus of everything is the commentary it tries to make. People who feel this game is a masterpiece will go onto condescend how others "might not get it" or "lack empathy" or even disregard it as all bigotry (although there are attempts to hate this game because... gays?) Listen... the theme is so heavy handed its hard to miss, so is the commentary the game bludgeons the player depressingly with over and over and over with...

it's abit self indulgent and all of it is premised on one scene very early on being the motive for revenge, said scene is the issue, if you don't buy into it being believable or you think its contrived its extremely hard to buy into the story going forward and feel anything but being taken on the most depressing roller coaster ride where characters are bland, unlikable (especially Ellie) and changed.

I feel like Naughty Dog took one of the most beloved game and characters of all time and decided to turn it into a message and commentary with those characters being the sacrifice for said commentary, while inverting some characters to maybe attempt to either add depth or complexity but ultimately fails in a way that reminds me of the trend set from season 8 of Game of Thrones or the latest Star Wars.

    Yes, that bad.

Lastly, i dont know why so many in games media thought this game was perfect when players and even 'influencers' feel so different.. Maybe they did just genuinely enjoy it and games media has a severe lack of diversity of thought... maybe it was activism and progressive politics (of which i feel this game has been somewhat unfairly characterised as having blunt identity politics...it doesn't). Who knows, but its far from a piece of art imho but the gameplay is phenomenal.

I had two playthroughs roughly 55 hours total.

    Thanks for reading.

You could have a story about "hatred", but good god, how about some kind of levity?!

I really enjoyed this game, and even though it’s not perfect and some of the choices leave you scratching your head at times, I think that in the end, it all pays off in an impactful way. If I have to compare it to the first game, the gameplay in Part 2 is far superior then the first. Its fun, heart-pounding, and challenging throughout. Story-wise, the first game is a tighter narrative that is very focused on the relationship between Joel and Ellie and how even in the darkness of the world they live in, there is still light to be found. Part two is a natural transition because of the actions of Joel in the first game. Part 2 is about the pain of loss and how hatred consumes people; how two sides of an issue can find themselves to be both victims and offenders. How an eye for an eye begets more violence. It’s a tough and uncomfortable story, but that’s the point. Narratively, both of the Last of Us games are one larger story that makes sense as a whole. There are things that I think could have been done to tighten the story up and make it more compelling, but to me, what was done works, and it’s definitely a title I’m planning on playing again. The gameplay has barely changed in 7 years and I really expected something "next gen" or an evolution at least. It feels tired. I am sure there are people out there who will love it for whatever reasons they want to justify, but frankly I can't recommend this one, especially if you were a huge fan of the characters in the first game and don't want a story that wants to rub your face in contrivances. Graphics, lighting, animations both facial and skeletal are all on point some of the best in the industry. Pacing suffers at times due to the huge duration of the game being 25 hours for most playstyles it could be easly cut down to 18 hours and still be ok. For the story I don't really get why people are so angry, review bombing, harassing actors and directors alike. It's just stupid and only showcases how immature we are as a community. For the story the idea of the cyrcle of violence can be found in every aspect of every character Abby's and Ellie's revenge how much they have lost in the process and how every action further drives them down a hole. Also for a game who handles so many characters it did and honorable job Lev being a great example for a sidecharacter that I genuinely cared. The idea of violence perfectly translates to the gameplay with some of the most raw and brutal combat you've seen in a video game. You can feel the impact in every hit and the pierce in every bullet and the carnage that the player can do. The atmosphere is also so well put, it never fails to evoke a feel of danger and hopelessness paired with some of the most jaw-dropping art direction. The only thing that the game really suffers is meaningful exploration, scrapping for supplies is ok but after the first few hours it feels repetetive. Instead of safes with more loot you could place artifacts that can trigger flashbacks of Joel and Ellie, that I think would modivate more players to search the environments. Overall the more I think about it the more I love it. I don't support the idea that you have to top the first game or give any fun service if it's the kind of story you want to tell. All the people at naughty dog believed in that story and I can respect that and I can also respect every one who played the game and didn't liked it. All an all I enjoyed the game and I applaud naughty dog for being bold with their vision.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I loved the game. Character interaction was fluid and realistic. Graphics look amazing. Joel's death was beautifully done. Which I know a lot of people disagree with but hear me out. Narratively Joel had done as much as he could and to kill him off in such a "cruel" and realistic way was a good motivator not only for the characters in the game but also for the player who had spent so much playing as Joel in the first game. And some people argue that the way he died was dumb. Joel wouldn't reveal who he was. He's too smart for that. But that only works as a problem if no time had passed for there to be growth and change for Joel. We see through flash backs that Joel has changed as a character. He is more trusting of people and works with them better. Before he would have likely left Abby to her fate and moved on but he saved her. They obviously deal with other groups so introductions are normal for Joel and this group. His death is realistic and works very well narratively and to say otherwise is just incredibly ignorant of how people and stories operate. Sure, have gripes and opinions on how it could've been better but to say "I'm not playing the game because Joel died". That's dumb and if you're not ready to play a game with depth then why are you playing Last of us at all? Go back to playing Mario or some **** Expand

For me I give it a ten because it is truly an amazing game. Graphically it is stunning there is no denying that. So for people to give it a 0-4 without even thinking about the graphics in mind are idiots. The sound and level design is phenomenally done. Again people giving it a 0-4 without that in mind are dumb. The combat and gameplay are superb. If you gave it a 0-4 for that again you are not all up there and have a lot of screws loose. The controls and overall feel of controlling the character is amazing. The accessibility they put into this game truly is amazing and is going to be a standard for games to come. The story is a emotional rollercoaster just like the first game. Everything about this game is amazing. Stop listening and believing the haters who thought about giving this game a 0 the day it was available to. Because of what some leaks that were half right months prior? A lot of those leaks you read aren’t true. If you aren’t a bigot than you will enjoy this game. It is truly a masterpiece in my humble opinion. Would I have liked the story to go a different route sure I guess a tad bit. Since that’s the biggest complaint/hate of this game is the story. Yes it sucks something terrible happens and I wish it didn’t but it’s ok because unlike angry **** in their parents basements I’m at peace with it ladies and gents. We can wish and want the story to do this or go this way but at the end of the day guess what? We’re not the ones writing or making the story. It’s not our story to tel. We are the players. We’re here for the ride. And if you didn’t like the story of this game that’s fine and all, If you actually played The game. But you can not deny the marvel of everything else that I mentioned. The music in this game is amazing. So many intense moments. So many twists and turns and unexpected stuff happens in this game. That the leaks paint a different picture than what the game is. An it’s sad because a lot of dumb humans believe it. For me this game is GOTY contender and my advice to anyone reading this is to buy this game. If you love Naughty Dog and trust them and see that they have brought us nothing but great fun and amazing games. Than you won’t be disappointed in this game. I loved it! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For me, it started off at an 8. Halfway through the game it dropped down to a 5, crawled back up to a 6 and right up until the end it stayed there. It ended up a 10. I can't stop thinking about the ending.

It starts out amazing. (Killings included) it was a GREAT move. It takes a nosedive halfway through the game though, and it took me the rest of the game to realize it's narrative function. It's not plain cut and dry, it's a rollercoaster.

So gameplay: It's awesome, just as much as the first game. There are parts of which I would've liked to see way more of (like the open-world bit, turns out it's the only one) and it has some good variations on the old formula throughout the game. It can get pretty tedious after a while though, and due to some narrative choices, it takes a whole lot getting used to halfway through the game.

So the story. As you might have heard it's about revenge. But it actually isn't. It's about the feeling, the gnawing of it, the **** you go through for it, the guilt that sticks, how tiring it is. how it eats you up.

    SPOILERS:
The game does not have a pay-off in a general sense, it's not about getting what you want, it's about finding out that whatever you wanted, isn't what you want anymore. it's about being free from whatever it was that you held on to. The game's boring parts, the tediousness, the endless repetition, combined with genuinely great moments and storytelling, makes for a great platform to a pay-off that no game has ever dared to give.

Naughty Dog's approach is daring, ballsy, hard-fought. It's not a game for everyone because it's not traditional in most senses. It's subtle, it's rough, it's messy and it's a puzzle that fits way too damn well together.

So what I'm trying to say is: It's great, it might not be your cup of tea and that's fine. But the storytelling is amazing. One of the reasons that you might not like it, is because you're not used to the way it's been told. You'd be wrong to assume it's a Hollywood movie covered in ultra-violence.
It's the closest thing to a AAA title with art-house tendencies.

To me, it's one of the first games ever that knows how to manage storytelling within games as a medium in such a sense, that it elevates the medium instead of just copying movies.

This post probably will get buried because of disagreement, but I think it needed to be said. Naughty Dog knows what it's doing and does an amazing job. Don't knock what you don't understand. You don't have to like the game :) I'm heavily impressed and can't wait for part 3.

Music 5/10 First games music was much better.

Environments 7/10 Some areas are awesome! Others look like a polished PS3 game. I thought it would be better.

Voice and Mocap 10/10 Can't fault it. Did a really good job there.

    And
Story 2/10 The worst part of this whole game. The writers think their writing is so clever. But the story is soo shallow. By the end of the game I didn't care if all the characters die. The final fight with Abby is just rubbish. The writers are trying to say this is deep and meaningful. It is just not. Characters are all really boring. Ellie is just a angry boring character. No depth. She throws little hissy fits through out the game. There are flash backs with Joel which don't land at all......because Joel is dead. It takes out all the character bonding. Joel was a idiot in this game. Wasn't anything like the first game. I'm not upset that Joel died, but how they did it. Enemies were boring. Nothing really new. The game just drags and drags on. It over stays it welcome by 10 hours.

    Would not recommend this game.

One of my favorite things about this game how it shows the story, instead of telling it.

The Internet would have you believe that Joel getting ambushed by Abby is completely out of character. And they're right... for old Joel.

But new Joel has lost his edge. He's not the same creature of pure survival as he was in the first game.

The very first scene of "The Last Of Us Part II" highlights this change.

Joel's not carrying a gun. Instead, he wears a guitar on his back, at the exact same place and angle where his rifle hung throughout ALL of the first game.

It's such an excellent visual way to convey that he's softened... and it shows the consequences of doing so, given the life he's lived.

The entire game is FULL of excellent visual symbolism such as this.

Don't let the haters put you off -- this is 100% the sequel the first game deserved!

My criticisms is the combat is a bit of slog later on in the game, and there "dog scene" was handled pretty poorly. But there's so much else good about this game, it's hard to believe it's really a "0 / 10 franchise killer" like so many of these review bombs would have you believe...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really really liked Last of Us 1. The story was good, the gameplay was solid, and I really enjoyed the multiplayer, though I know it wasn't for everyone.
But this game is just terrible, the gameplay is still there, and it is still solid. And sometimes gameplay can save a game with a bad story, but it can't save this one.
    GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is pretty much identical to the first game, with a few minor tweaks and a few new weapons to play with. So if you liked the way the first one felt, you'll probably like how this one feels.
    STORY
The story is a complete dumpster fire. They took every character we ever liked and either killed them or completely changed them so they are shell of their former personality. They force you to commit atrocities and then point the finger at you saying "Player why would you do such a thing, don't you feel bad?" None of the people in this game talk like you would expect to talk in real life, it feels like a very badly acted out children's play. The writing is sincerely bad, and you need only look at the other reviews to confirm this. The plot is a revenge plot, and some revenge plots can work extremely well, look at The Princess Bride, one of the greatest movies of all time, but the important thing about revenge plots is payoff. There needs to be a reason for us to care about the outcome and the outcome needs to be satisfying. During this game everyone Ellie loves dies or leaves her on her quest to get revenge, and when revenge is finally within your grasp, they take it away from you, and let the antagonist just get away. The bad guy gets away, and you lost everything near and dear to you, bam, wallop, that'll be $60. What in the world were they thinking? It would have been okay if we could sympathize with Abby at all, but she is just a dumb **** Her brains match her muscles in that they look like rocks. Her character is totally unbelievable and feels unlike any human I have ever met.
I came away from this game wondering what took 7 years. Especially with all of the news we got about Naughty Dog overworking their employees and having massive crunch times. Did they spend all 7 years on the graphics alone? Because they didn't spend it on writing, and the gameplay is almost identical so they didn't spend it making new gameplay mechanics. And there is no multiplayer so they didn't put an ounce of effort towards that either. This game is extremely disappointing. If you still think you might like it after reading this review then go ahead and buy it, judge for yourself, but I'd recommend against it.

E impressionante o que a dedicação dos desenvolvedores foi capaz de fazer.

Such a beautiful game with so many different areas/sceneries to visit along the way. The way it was written was amazing.. pacing the action with the story at different intervals and interweaving a beautifully tragic narrative. They didn't have any other choice than to go down this path. If they kept Joel & Ellie as protagonists going forward, the game would be like any other game... boring, repetitive and almost a carbon copy of the last 20 years worth of action gaming narrative. What naughty dog has done is create a wonderful epic that I thoroughly enjoyed. Both the gameplay and storytelling is to be commended. I'm in awe! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. People hearing the leaks and getting angry about plot turns. People seeing leaked cutscenes out of context and disliking them. People watching streamers play and complain their way through the game. Or people who played, got to the big early death and stormed off to write a review in the first two hours is what has given this game so many negative player review's.

However I believe Naughty Dog has crafted a beautifuly tragic story about the cost of revenge and discovering what it truly means to be human. I applaud Naughty Dog to sticking to their artistic vsion and not appeasing the fans like the recent Star Wars film has done.

The sound design, environments, combat dialogue and acting were some of the best I've ever seen in a video game. Accompanied by the veceral, authentic and out right tragic storytelling of Ellies revenge driven quest with the player truly feeling every action she makes alike beating nora to death or killing mel and discovering she's pregnant, you feel it as a player both in her pain and suffering each time.

When playing as Abby I **** hated it for the first hour or so calling back to joels death and what she did but as you play her you discover that she is just like Ellie. Living in a settlement full of people that love and respect her, friends that would die for her and selfless acts the redeem her as a character and reveal that she isn't some monster just someone that lost her father alike Ellie lost her father figure.

The sniper act during abbys game time was a perfect way of illustrating this dynamic, I felt myself getting really angry and honestly pissed at the sniper and after killing one of Abby friends I was furious before realising it was Tommy. It was at that moment I had a moment of clarity about the game that both Abbys and Ellies storys were profoundly the same and came to sympathize and recognize each of the characters humanity.

During the final act if the game where Ellie and Abby were fighting i didn't want either of them to win nor to lose, I had come to understand and respect each of the charters even for killing joel as we had killed all of Abby friends too.

And to have Ellie lose everything at the end of the game including Dina, Jesse, Tommy her 'son' and even her ability to play guitar along with joel in her mission of revenge was a profound but uniquely beautiful and symbolic way of climaixng part 2 of this series.

My only gripe with the game was possibly the structuring and longevity of the game. I would have much rather a tighter more cohesive story but other than that this is a worthy successor to it's counter part.

The story is really bad , it's basically a revenge story so pretty unoriginal, basically Abbey wants revenge for the death of her father bu Joel, the way they write this is stupid Abbey tried to enter the town where Joel live but ends up being attacked by the infected. Just before they gather Joel and tommy miraculously save her but unfortunately can't get back to town as the weather is bad so low and behold Abbey brings them back to her house where all her pals are and they kill him , then Ellie sees this and wants revenge so kills all Abbey's friends, then abbey wants revenge on Ellie finds her but does not kill her, ellie then wants revenge on Abbey again, I could break down all the plot holes and stuff but there is no point Expand

But the main reason why I loved and still do love the game, was because of the interactions between Ellie and Joel. How Joel found in his heart to love again despite what other people did to his daughter and how Ellie found a person whom she could trust to always be there for her.

I never found any love for the fireflies as they wanted to kill a child for a vaccine that was not even guaranteed to work, and how the hell would they even deliver said vaccine or produce it in a post apocalyptic world? Anyway, the second game is beautiful beyond belief and I am certain it was made for the ps5 first and foremost and that we will see the true magnificent visuals when that console arrives.

But stunning visuals only do so much and even if the game succeeds with representation and also have some really intense action scenes, the story is boring and really not even close to the first game at all. The story is a **** and I am disappointed and I never could have dreamed that the story would be so bad. Yes, the story is dark and gritty but that is also more or less all it is, there are no light to search for when the one is in the darkness. The ending is a catastrophe and I am certain most people will not be happy or even content with it.

I will be honest as I do not think this game is a zero nor is it a ten. People giving the game a zero are but hurt little spoiled brats and people giving it a ten are virtue signaling SJWs. I have nothing against any ethnicity, sexual orientation or religion and the game is not bad because of representation, it is bad despite of representation.

I would give it a 5 out of 10 because it is a gorgeous looking game with gameplay that is ok but not as good as one would expect after such a long time between the first game and this game. The story is literally trash and seems to been have written by someone that is both blind and deaf when it comes to have a feeling for the soul that was present in the first game. Do not buy if you loved the first game for the story, buy it if you really love the gameplay from the first and would love to kill hundreds of people and mushroom-people.

Personally for me, the second part is not the canon, the characters of the second part (Ellie, Joel, Tommy), have nothing to do with the characters we saw in the first game. They are not canonical, for me the second part does not exist, I want to forget that I played it. I have nothing against tolerance, and I support it myself, but those minorities and groups represented in the game, do not affect the plot in any way and added only for the tick. If you want to make a game about minorities, make it separate, but you don't have to force this content into the game and the story, in which it will not look organic. Expand

The end leaves you with an Ellie only moved by hate and trauma against an Abby that finally found redemption and a person to emphasize (Lev). Sound & music: 10/10

    Story: 0

Overall Experience: 5/10 (because story is 50% contributor to the overall experience)

The story seems like someone had all the pages of the masterfully written story and had accidentally dropped the pages in the wind and never knew how to put them back in order again, as the pages had no numbers. So they made the game story based on the randomly shuffled pages. Firstly, why the hell did they have to kill Joel? I know at the end of the day its “their” character and story, so they can do whatever they like. But, why? How could they possibly think it was a good idea to kill the most lovable character at the beginning of the game in such a brutally unfair manner? Especially right after he saved that stupid girl’s life from imminent death? Thats an intentional trauma the writers exposed all the fans to. At that point, I was so traumatized as though someone had murdered a real person that I knew in front of me. The only reason why I reluctantly continued playing was to make sure that the stupid murderous **** gets ripped to shreds by the time I get to her. It would have at least served justice, even though it would never bring back Joel again.

    How foolish was I...

They actually make you play the character you want to kill in the worse way possible and force feed you sugar and candy, hoping to make you care?????? WTF?! I absolutely hated every second of it. I did not want to play her at all. Isn't making you forcefully play something that makes you unhappy and uncomfortable practically mind rape?

I dont care if she was as innocent as mother tressa... she killed someone I loved. All I care about now is to make sure that she dies in the worst way humanly possible!

But no. They don’t even give you that least amount of satisfaction. They make YOU hurt the last remaining character you care about without any other choices and then expect you to applaud when out beloved character randomly decides to let her live (WITHOUT US HAVING ANY CHOICE IN IT)?!?

What was the point of this?

It might as well have been a film, since the player has no control over any of the main events in the game. It seems that the game played us and we paid for it with our time, money and broken hearts.

I honestly think it's necessary to give the game time to ruminate and allow your feelings and thoughts to clear. The Last of Us Part II is a difficult game, not necessarily in gameplay, but emotionally and mentally. It can be a miserable emotional experience, but this is used to challenge what storytelling in video games should be about. Fans of film and literature have had generations to develop their stories to be challenging, and not always 'fun' while games are still attempting to evolve the storytelling in the medium, and Naughty Dog is one of the leaders of that.

Naughty Dog could have easily made a Joel and Ellie adventure, and granted, everyone would have been happy with it, but it would fail to push the narrative effectively. While Joel doesn't have a lot of time within the story itself, make no mistake, the game is still about the relationship about Joel and Ellie. The game is also working to challenge typical structure and perspective typically found within video games. My hope is when this game is given a second look through the online community, it's treated a positive and necessary part of the development of narrative focused games, and I do believe history will be kinder on the game than the present.

So, off my soap box now, let's talk about the technicals.

    Voice Acting:
Ashley Johnson killed it. I remember in 2013 when Troy Baker was going off with the first part and also Bioshock: Infinite, but Ashley's performance, especially near the end was so heart breaking and real. Everyone did a fantastic job, but I doubt anyone can beat Johnson for best of the year.

    Music:
Similar music to the first game, but adding in some Quayle was a very nice tough and his touch did not go unnoticed.

    Gameplay:
I think it's fair to say that gameplay was probably the criticized aspect of the original game. It was pretty basic, but it was polished and well done, and was sort of 'good enough.' For Part II, I really enjoyed the additional elements. The AI is no longer goofy, and is much more dynamic. The addition of dogs to track you, mixing in infected and human enemies was a great holdover from Left Behind. Ellie is also much more agile than Joel, meaning that she can use her environment to her advantage, including going prone, jumping on structures, and moving between broken walls. This allows each encounter to feel unique to on another and for experimentation. I definitely feel Part II is much stronger with gameplay elements than the original game.

Overall, The Last of Us is about challenge. Not just with the gameplay, but with the emotional and mental aspects. What you believe should happen is seldom going to happen. These stories are about the characters, their trauma, and how they deal with them. There's never anything easy about that. Because of this, and in spite of my perfect score, it's not a game I would recommend every single person. There's a headspace you have to be ready to be a part of, and if you want a fun experience in a post-apocalyptic world, well you're only going to get half of that. And for some, that's going to be a problem. Some people want escapism and fun for their games, but for those who want to be challenged narratively and experience some tough themes, I highly recommend to ignore the hate and give it a shot for yourself, you might be very surprised.

What naughty dog said wasn't ''play the game for yourself and then judge'' they said that you couldn't judge the game just by the leaks, just by knowing ''oh, Joel died, oh, in the end Ellie doesn't end up killing Joel's killer'' literally anyone who sees that will think is **** which after finishing the game, I can confidently say is not, Literally everybody knew that Joel was going to die in this game. He stopped humanity's progress while killing most of the fireflies. Joel really needed to die if they wanted to make a sequel. The people that complain about the way he was killed because it wasn't ''honorable'' or it wasn't ''justice to the character'' should just stop, This is the last of us and 99% of the people die like literal dogs and this game doesn't shy about that.
I don't think that Joel's death is the problem with the story at all, in fact it gives the player a pretty good motivation to play. Joel is a pretty beloved character, and that's why killing him is such a powerful way to motivate the player on this revenge murder spree. The problem is that you only play half of the game as Ellie seeking revenge for Joel, and in the second half you play as the very same person that tortured and murdered him. why? why would you do that? who wants that? but as I went through the game i found myself seeing things differently. Not exactly sympathizing with Abby but just getting caught up and then invested on her side of the story as she also begins to change.
Ellie's story is very linear, it's a revenge murder spree while Abby's was very chaotic and messy, traversing through war zone after war zone. It was very fun connecting the dots between both their stories and the first last of us.
However the game does have it's faults, with such a big cast of characters compared to the first last of us, jumbling one after the other, the side characters' character development is what i found lacking. Sometimes how the story is executed is just confusing as well, they stack flashbacks onto flashbacks, which you really need to put a lot of focus into to understand the story which was not fun. There were times i had to take notes cause i tend to forget details if i don't continuously play the game. Lastly, the 2 or 3 boss fights in this game suck, the melee fight with these huge cult members. It's only mechanic was dodge and attack to them. Personally i would've wanted more of a variety on these boss fights because there were just a few amount of boss fights in the game and to limit 2 or 3 of them with the same dodge and attack thing, was just being lazy.

Another part ''User reviews from people who played the game'', most of the reviews came out literally when the game came out, When there was no physical time to have played the entire game, people rated the game with 0, ONLY KNOWING WHAT HAPPENED IN THE LEAKS, and now that the people has played the game that some time has passed, most people are not counter bombing scores, it's rising because people how has actually played the game are rating it. it's not a game made for people who only sees things black and white or people that cannot see things other than ''uuuuuhhh she killed Joel! what a villain! that's it, bad game''. In short, just don't buy this game if you want happy honorable fun time with Joel and Ellie.

Incredible game. Heartbreaking, terrifying, beautiful, incredibly ugly, and very very sad.

This game has chewed me up in ways that not many things have. I finished it three days ago and i can't stop thinking about it.

Is it perfect? No. Nothing is. but what the Last of Us Part 2 is is a daring and challenging exploration of vengeance and its cost.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Game is great, the character actions make sense in their context. And asking questions with a story is not the same as judging the player. The final description made is as ambiguous and interesting as the one in the first game. Game play loop does get a bit stale as the game is much longer but always looks great in a very well realised world

This game has a very well treated message, revenge and what it entails. A little poorly structured, but the message is the same.
This game doesn't ruin the saga, it only has some errors in the script (deus ex machina). The characters are not taken to a destination that was not expected, only that for the next game they do not have these script errors.
The game has excess gore (violence),

I do not like romantic moments.

As a long time Naughty Dog fan I’m still blown away. This could very well be the best game I’ve ever experienced and it’s undoubtedly the best PS4 game as of yet and this is coming from someone that’s played games since the 80’s and well over 100 PS4 games to completion including all other AAA games that is considered the best of the bunch. This is a story heavy game and it’s playing with completely different questions and emotions to what you’ve normally come to expect from a game. You may not like it since it dare to challenge pretty much everything we’ve come to learn and feel up to this point in the story but it’s very difficult to question the quality of the story telling independent if you agree with the direction or not. Me personally understand and respect the choices they made and the gambling they obviously did. It’s much darker than the original The Last of Us with a lot of violence and gore but it’s also very fitting based on the revenge theme of this game. It’s not there for the sake of being there but to further explain the darkest sides of humanity. It plays and feel like a Naughty Dog game and if anything I would say it’s an improvement over last installments. The AI is the best I’ve witnessed in a video game and it’s also an excellent stealth game even judging by Metal Gear Solid standards. It’s challenging (>=Moderate) without being frustrating and I never felt I was punished by the game or suffered failures due to anything but my own mistakes. The length of the game is longer than any of the other ND games and even though I prefer shorter and tighter games I never felt that it overstayed it’s visit. I’ve read a lot of debates about pushing feminist agendas but other than that I kept away from any spoilers or in detail reviews about the game, purely to have my own experience. I don’t agree with the critique related to politics and pushing agendas and if your whole world collapses if you witness anything HBTQ related, then I just feel sorry for you and the people around your black cloud. The graphics may very well be the best that is possible to achieve with current PS hardware and the sound design and music is a triumph as well. Everything that’s created is there to support the mood they want to achieve and according to me it hit all the right strings. If possible for you, then I recommend to use headphones while playing the game. This is a pure masterpiece and it got me to review my first ever game on Metacritic. 10/10 from Sweden. Expand

Not only did they try to force some ‘what did you learn from this’ kinda point with the whole abby story, they completely betrayed who some of the characters were or had to begun to by the end of the last game. Joel came off as a complete idiot, how can one guy go from the hardest survivor around to a incompetent trusting doof in five years? This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros

    1) I found it easy to become invested in Ellie’s new story, and the connections she has with Dina, Jesse, Tommy & Joel are very believable & down to earth.
    2) I thought the the final showdown between Ellie & Abby was done brilliantly; I never thought that I would be desperately pleading in my head with Ellie not to kill Abby.
    3) The gameplay mechanics are simply a joy to experience. Ellie & Abby feel so grounded and real, and each action carries its own weight that you have to weigh up in tense situations.
    4) The environments are utterly breathtaking. Every direction you look at almost any point in the game presents you with a frame that could easily be mistaken for official artwork. The environmental storytelling and atmosphere is a whole other element of the game to get lost in.
    5) Facial expressions in this game are mind-blowing. These are perhaps the most expressive and emotive characters I have ever seen in a video game.
    6) Character animations do a great job at making you believe that you are interacting with a world of real people; each button press and flick of the analog stick feel weighty and real.
    7) The soundtrack is phenomenal; from moments of tranquility to tense combat, I often found myself taking a moment to appreciate the score.
    8) Ellie’s descent into obsessive rage is an uncomfortable but believable reaction to her experience. She is possibly suffering from PTSD and I think it is refreshing to see the game explore less savoury weaknesses of characters we love without going too far down the “Luke Skywalker Treatment” road. I thought this was a realistic and interesting balance.

    Cons

    1) I really disagree with Naughty Dog’s decision to leave out the fact that you don’t play as Ellie for half of the game. In fact, in previews & reviews it is often said “when you are playing as Ellie...” with never so much as a hint that there are multiple playable characters in the game. The moment you first play as Abby in ‘Seattle Day One’ is not important or profound or an “OMG” surprise, so I feel like it was deceptive to leave this information out of the marketing.
    2) This game introduces lots of new characters and lots of new relationships which feel much shallower than the original. Instead of further exploring the art of developing a small amount of deeply personal relationships, Naughty Dog has clearly made a conscious decision to follow a large amount of shallow relationships, but we don’t spend enough time with them to fully appreciate them.
    3) There were times where I could really “feel” that the game was trying to make me “feel” a certain way, which completely broke the immersion for me. For example; extremely sad & emotional music would play at a certain point during a cutscene at a moment which just felt completely wrong - the beauty of previous Naughty Dog games is that I would experience emotions for characters without even realising. It is sad to see that magic lost at times.
    4) The characters in this game are simply not up to par of what I have come to expect from Naughty Dog. In the past, I have been convinced that they have mastered the art of crafting ‘likeable’ characters, but I felt like a lot of the side characters in Abby’s storyline in particular (and even Abby herself at times) were pretty dull, forgettable and annoying.
    5) I felt like Joel’s death was extremely abrupt, and we were not given enough time to digest what had just happened or even sit with Ellie as she processed what had happened. I feel like the now infamous golf-club-execution scene also lost some of its weight because it wasn’t made 100% clear that Joel had actually died until we see a shot of his gravestone.
    6) The whole story in Seattle was enabled by Tommy seeing a ‘WLF’ badge at some point during Joel’s execution. It felt cheap that we immediately find out who killed Joel and where they live because of some convenient piece of information provided by another character; would it not have added more weight to spend some time with Ellie desperately trying to figure out who did it and tracking them down?
    7) The fact that Dina agreed to join Ellie on her murderous assassin rampage mission to a dangerous city miles from Jackson when she knew that she was pregnant is an example of “The Last Jedi Syndrome”; characters finding themselves in terrible situations not because of circumstance or defeat, but simply because they are stupid.
    8) Abby’s plentiful non-combat “story” missions bored me to tears. They do a good job at filling in some backstory, but they felt like the equivalent of the Walking Dead episode where Daryl and Beth just talk in a cabin for an hour and get attacked at the end - boring and unnecessary.
